Marilyne

Good Morning everyone.  Looks like it will be a nice day today - temps predicted to hit 60 degrees, with a possibility of even higher by the end of the week.  I'm ready for Spring, so will be more than happy to see Mister Sun!

Daughter Sandy, is coming over today to do her washing, and to commiserate about her problems.  Things not going so well for her in recent weeks. Son and dil came over yesterday, and I was shocked to hear that dil's Mother is doing so poorly.  She has an illness called polymyalgia, and is such pain, that she is unable to get out of bed and to the bathroom without help.  They are giving her cortisone injections, but nothing seems to be helping with the pain.  She is 80.  I looked up polymyalgia online, and it does sound like an extremely debilitating illness.

Patricia - I remember reading messages from you, way back when you were doing all that walking to work and back. I was impressed then and I'm still impressed that you were able to do it - especially in the extreme cold!

Larry Hanna, made such a positive impression on all of us here in S&F.  It's a wonderful legacy that he left, because none of us will ever forget him.  Thank you Bubble, for posting the poem.  The message sounds like Larry, himself, wrote it.   He had such a wonderful attitude toward both life and death.

FlaJean

I haven't looked in for a couple of days.  It has been cold here this week, but I see on the weather app that it will be warming up for a few days.

Things are quiet here and not much to talk about.

Went to the store for a few necessary items like bread and eggs.  It wasn't windy so it didn't feel too bad out at 50°.  Supposed to get up to 60 today—-we'll see.

Hope everyone has a good day!

JeanneP

Bubble. Loved that from Larry. Had not seen it before..
Got up at 9 am today. Slept 10 hrs. So better get a move on.
I wish I could get the apps that you ladies find showing the ships. Just can't find them?

All enjoy your day. Dry day here so need to go shopping before next snow.

Jeanne, the link above is a link to the ships on the St Clair River.

There is only one ship listed for Duluth and it is supposed to depart for somewhere but they have changed the departure time every day for a week.

It is not time to expect many ships, however, there are some that go from Lake Huron to Lake Michigan or Lake Erie and as long as the river is open, I think there will be an occasional ship.  The most scenic is Port Huron because they show the bridges to and from Canada and you get the best view of the ship at Marine City.  The view at Algonac is more distant but they have a couple of ferries to and from Canada and they will operate as long as the river is open.  Don't expect too much now because the shipping season is over until the end of March.

A good Monday HELLO to ALL. I am so disappointed in myself that I do not find the time to get in here and post.... one would think I am really getting a LOT done as I am busy all day long! We are trying our best to get things cleaned out, and it is a terrible thing for me as it makes me "see" all of the mementos  and I have a really hard time being objective about what to do with them.  I have told Bob, I just wish I could walk away and take just the very minimal stuff with me, and then just have an estate sale and never look back!  I do know this is NOT. A realistic solution, but it sure would be easier on me!

It is dreary again today and I do not do well with dreary😩😢!

I enjoyed ALL of the posts and love reading what all you are up to.

Thank you, BUBBLE, for sharing this post from Larry.  I, too, miss his very enjoyable posts.  There are so many of our "cyber friends" that I think about often and wish they were still around to post....some are no longer with us and some just for what ever reason choose not to be a part of our groups any longer.  Either way, they certainly are missed.

MARY ANN, I wanted to comment on Tom's new wheels.  We had a Avalon when they first came out and I loved that car.  I hope he gets many good years of driving  out of it.  I hope he can sell the other one and get some money out of it as he did take good care of it.

Today is #3 son, Mark and Megan's second wedding anniversary.  It is hard to believe it has been only two years and yet it seems like Jonah has been in our lives at least that long!  Mark, Megan and Jonah are going to visit my Dad this coming Saturday.  Sadly, Dad has not been very nice to Mark about them coming for a visit.....I should not even mentioned this as it is upsetting to me, and to Mark as well, but we all just have to realize Dads age and TRY to under WHY he feels them coming is a burden to him.  Mark and my Dad have always been VERY close and this has been hard on Mark.  Dad tells Diane that Jonah is going to run around and break everything......
Mark has assured him that they will not stay long but they just want to SEE him and for him to meet his GreatGrandson Jonah!  I am in tears....I know well that they are not going to let Jonah run wild....

I think I had best get myself going....we have all kinds of irons in the fire today.

I forgot to post this before I went out to work in the garage for a few hours.....thank goodness it was still here!

Have a great day!

Mary Ann - Thanks for looking for me! I'm usually here every day but when I want to leave a message I'm at a loss for words. If you knew me in person you'd have a hard time believing that!  :) I am a talker. I also love talking to people and learning about their lives, which is probably why I like Seniors and Friends.

I have also had times when I just don't feel well. My intestinal problems haven't been resolved but hopefully I'll have the lab results soon. I haven't been able to do the grocery shopping or other errands. Chape is the one who has taken over. He's slowly learning what to get at the stores. Tonight was a perfect example. We need clear plastic trash bags for recyclables. He came home with a big box of strongly scented 13 oz. kitchen trash bags. Whew!  ::) I told him it was okay. We'd find someone who liked the perfume.  ;)

Jenny - Please don't feel badly about your father's reaction to Mark and his family. Alzheimers and other dementias changes their personality. They do and say things they never would have before. My sister-in-law went through all kinds of stages including paranoia and accused her only daughter of stealing money from her.

Congratulations to Mark and Megan on their anniversary!

Bubble - Thank you for that poem and the memories it brought back of Larry.

JeanneP

Thanks for the Site of the Shipping MaryAnn. Going to play with them tomorrow if the day as cold as today and will stay home.
Right now off to bed with a book. Got my bed warmer turned on. So Goodnight all.

MarsGal

Morning all.

Not much to gab about so far today. Got some housework and some reading to do today. Did grocery shopping yesterday. Temps to be in the low 40's. It is 36o now.

USCG Bristol Bay is at this moment (6:30am) is still moored at Algomac. her destination yesterday was listed as St. Clair, but now it just lists Algonac. I finally got to see the icebreaker CCGS Griffon yesterday at Marine City. She is now moored beside CCGS Samuel Risley at Sarnia Harbor. It is a bit hard to see any of it because AlgoNorth remains moored in front.

FlaJean

Awfully quiet here today.  The sun is shining and soon will be up to 60°.

Beverly, I hope you will soon be feeling much better.

Mary Ann, I miss seeing a post from you.  I also miss Larry and his daily post.  It was always a worry when he was late posting and wondering if all was well.  Now I am missing your post and thinking about you and if all is well.

Marilyne, hope you enjoyed your visit with daughter Sandy.  I did post in the TV forum that I was finally watching The Crown on Netflix and enjoying it very much.

Marsgal, it was nice seeing a post from you.  At least I knew I was in the right forum.😊

Jenny, it is sad about your dad.  Hope the visit goes OK.  It sounds like You have been busy clearing out things.  Have you decided to move or just getting ready in case you make that decision.  I might have missed a conversation along the way and missed something.

Need a quick visit to the grocery store for some milk for Larry.  He usually has cereal every night before going to bed.  His milk smelled sour last evening so he threw it out.  I drink Lactaid.  It's the same as regular milk except it has an ingredient to get rid of that lactose I'm allergic to, but trying to tell that to Mr. Larry!  Hope all of you have a good day.

Beverly

Still no post from Mary Ann! I checked several times today.

Jean - I also drink Lactaid and have for about 20 years. They now make lactose free ice cream. To help keep my weight up I've been drinking Ensure Plus several times a week. It's also lactose free and I've really acquired a taste for it! I try not to drink too much because it has a lot of sugar.

MarsGal - You were the only one here this morning so I wondered if S&F was having problems again. At one time 40 in January would have seemed balmy, but after being in Florida for so long it feels cold.

I just found a message from Tom Tock on Facebook. Mary Ann is in the hospital. She had some tests and it doesn't appear she had a heart attack (as feared) but they will be doing more tests at 10 p.m..

I'll check his FB page later to see if there is an update.

Sending love and prayers to Mary Ann.

Tomereader1

to Tom Tock, in case you see this.  Best wishes for Mary Ann's quick recovery. Hope she will be up and at 'em quickly.  Tell her the Norm's Bait & Tackler's are thinking about her.

Marilyne

Mary Ann -  I'm thinking about you tonight, and hoping for a quick recovery!  Seniors & Friends, isn't the same when you aren't here!  Kendrick misses you, and we're all looking forward to your return.

Vanilla-Jackie

Oh so sorry to come into our forum early this morning 7.am, and read that our Mary Ann is in hospital...

Mary Ann, please get better soon.

Marilyne

I looked at Tom's Facebook messages this morning, but there are no updates so far.  I'm hoping that Mary Ann is home now, and is resting up from all the tests and doctors, and will be checking in here soon.   It's just 8:15 here, so 11:15 in Grand Rapids.  I'm looking forward to seeing  message from her here in B&T.

FlaJean

I was worried yesterday when I didn't see a message from Mary Ann.  I hope everything is going all right with her.

Thanks Beverly for checking the Tom's Facebook page.  I was looking at the Ocala weather earlier and noticed it is about 12 degrees warmer in your area.

It is cold and rainy today!  A good day for staying inside.

I'll be thinking about Mary Ann today and praying all goes well.

Shirley

I came to see if Tom has brought more news or if maybe Mary Ann is back home & will post. Miss you, dear Friend!

Thanks, Beverly, for updates, I don't do Facebook. Shirley

VERY sorry to read about you being in the hospital. MARY ANN.  I do hope you will be home very soon and feeling much better❣️ WE MISS YOU 🦋

Thank you to all that have commented about my Dad and about Alzheimer's in general.  I appreciate all your thought and experiences. It is a nasty disease, we all know that.

We worked ALL DAY again on going through things.....seems we are making very little progress, but I know we are.

JEAN, we have not made any decision yet about a move, but we are just doing what we must do before we could possibly make a move! 🤪🤪

Another dreary day here......seems we have had more of them than we normally do!  There is a possibility of snow here later on today.  They do not expect there to be much at all.  If there is not a measurable amount today we will break a record of having no measurable precipitation in the month of January EVER. The mountains are getting plenty, which is GREAT and where I prefer it to snow🤣🤣

OK....I am off to get  something done....have a good day everyone.

Was hoping to see some news about Mary Ann.  I also found Tom's Facebook page and noticed she had called for help not too long after she had posted.

Yesterday was literally a "wash-out"!  Don't know when it began raining - was doing so when I got up - but it continued all day long.  Snow accumulation made it from the panhandle to the western edge of the OKC city limits and I was glad it didn't come any farther.

Dil had taken me to a doctor's appointment on Monday and we stopped by the grocery store on the way home.  Sure glad we did.  This morning, I was able to do the errands I'd planned to do yesterday.

Off to find something useful to do.....or not.  ;D

From Tom about MaryAnn!

* UPDATE *  Maryann had a small heart attack on Monday.  She will be in the hospital for a few more days.  Her troponin levels continue to go up. They are also concerned that her potassium and magnesium levels are at normal levels but they are giving her those through an IV in order to maintain those. She is exhausted and sleeping a lot.

I visited her this morning after they had her up for a short walk.  She was not feeling well and did not seem with it.  I just got off the phone with her and she sounded much better but did not remember me being there this morning even though we talked.

At the moment when she comes home, she will have two to four visits from a visiting PT specialist to work with her and make recommendations on how to make the home more efficient and safer for her.  We will also talk about long term in-home care options.

Thanks for the update, Sandy.

What's troponin?

Prayers and Good Thoughts continue for our friend.

Thank you for keeping us up on Mary Ann. One person we just never thought of getting a problem. We all seem to forget that we are getting older. She is a fighter and will be back soon I am sure. She is missed so much when not on daily.

I add my prayers and best wishes for Mary Ann!💕💕

Beverly

Thanks Sandy - So glad to hear an update on Mary Ann. I hope she'll be able to come home soon. Keeping her in my prayers....

Marilyne

Thank you Sandy,  for posting the FB message about Mary Ann.  I looked up troponin levels, and it looks like it's a good thing that they are going UP, as Tom stated.  Also, that her potassium and magnesium levels appear to be normal.  I'm thinking about her all the time, and hoping that she will be going home in a few days.  Praying for a complete recovery.

Beverly

It's been a dreary, chilly day. Temp now is 64.

Marilyne - Polymyalgia is a painful disease. If I'm not mistaken, that's what our own Pat Scott Halbach had in later years.

I've been sorting out boxes of "keepsakes" in my closet. I'm a bit of a hoarder when it comes to memories. I have a deep walk-in closet and there is only a wide path down the center. :-) My daughter, Lauri, will be here in a couple of weeks so I will recruit her to help.
