GOOD MORNNG 💐 EVERYONE 💐

It is going to be another HOT one here in the Mile High City today.  By Friday they are saying we could have triple digits😩

We did not sleep that well last night.....it was warm and we should have left the AC on for the night.  I just love the fresh air, but sometimes we just have to have the air on.  The new sheets felt a bit different, so that added to my non sleep.  Feels like we need to rewash them again🤪.

I have a few last minute preparations to be ready for my SIL'S funeral tomorrow.  I do not like the fact it has been 18 days between her death and burial day.....it just drags out the grief of it all.  Dave is not going to be able to join the family at the service as they have pushed Michele's Chemo time later due to the 4th of July Holiday.  Since it was on a Saturday, I did not expect it to change the schedule, but it did. 😩

We did finish watching HAMILTON last night, and we sure did enjoy it 😍

I wish you all a wonderful day.

Jenny - Eighteen days does seem like a long time between your sil's death, and her burial day.  Things have definitely changed in the past couple of years, regarding funerals.   We haven't been to an old fashioned funeral or burial service, in a long, long time.   Seems that most families now prefer to wait - sometimes for months - and then have a Memorial gathering of friends and family, held at a rental hall of some sort.  Whatever a family decides to do at such a sad time, is what's right for them.

Sounds like you really enjoyed,  Hamilton.    I hope to see it before too long, also.  We decided not to subscribe to the Disney Channel at this time, but we probably will in the future.  I wanted to ask you if there was closed captioning included?    I hope so, because I can't enjoy a TV show, a documentary or a movie, without.

Jean - I'm glad you and Larry are enjoying the Hallmark Christmas shows.   I like to watch them during the Holidays, but can't get up the enthusiasm to watch them in July!  I can see that they would be much better than watching the news.   I can never remember the news being so bad and so depressing, in my entire life.   I'm sure it was, during the years of WWII, but we only had the radio back then.  The TV channels with 24 hour "Breaking News", are very depressing and hopeless to watch.

Jackie - I'm so sorry that you had a bad fall, night before last!  You were fortunate that you didn't break any bones, or any other serious injuries.  I agree that it's time to get the emergency alert, so that you can quickly call for help if it ever happens again.  I hope you're sore leg is feeling much better today.

Denver

MARILYNE, I did enjoy HAMILTON, however I am going to have to watch it again as there are parts that I just did not get what they were saying due to the fact there was not the option for closed captioning.  I tried to turn it on and was not successful.  I will have to ask a son to make sure as I, too, really need it.  I misspoke on the days since SIL died....it will be 17 days.  Just the same it is a LONG time and it is going to be a open casket ceremony😳😳 A rather frightening thought for me, actually.

JACKIE, I am sorry to say that I must have missed where you posted about a fall.  I will go back and see if I can find it to know the details.  I am sorry to read this and I do hope you did not hurt yourself too badly😢

I have spent the last four hours making me a black mask from the bottoms of a pair of my pajamas.  Tried all over town to get a "gator" type mask in black and could not find one anywhere! I cut the two pant legs off then hand sewed them together for a double layer and to be reversible.  I put elastic all around the top and a piece of a twist tie in to form the bridge of my nose!  I am pretty proud of myself😘😘

Have a good evening,

Jenny

We had another summer storm yesterday.  I got my left eye lasered so don't have to worry about that anymore.  My field test is scheduled for Jan. of next year.  i've made my calendar for 2021 and am already adding an appointment.

The sun is shining but we have an 80% chance of rain this afternoon.  It will be another hot summer day.

Hopefully all of us will have a good day.

Marilyne

Jenny - I thought about you yesterday, knowing that the service for your sister-in-law was taking place.  I hope that your brother is doing as well as can be expected, at such a sad time.  You didn't mention if they have adult children?  If so, they will be a great comfort to him.   That was very clever of you, to make a mask for the funeral, out of a pair of black pajama bottoms!   I don't think I would be able to figure out how to make one . . . I've never been good at sewing or crafts of any kind.

Jean - What was the reason for having the laser treatment on your eye?   I remember someone else here in Bait and Tackle, mentioned having it done also.  I think it might have been Mary Ann?   I hope that your Panhandle area of Florida, is still keeping low numbers, as to Covid-19?   I've seen on the news that Southern Fl, is the worst, which is the same here in California.  The areas around Los Angeles and San Diego, are much worse than we are up here in the North.

JeanneP

JeanFl.  Now I was wondering about the Eye Laser treatment also. I have had the same eye doctor for 29 years. He did my Cataract surgery about 8 years ago. For few years though Ihave had bad Dry Eye. I have hinted to him that friends have had this done. But he seems to be against it for me. Right now I put drops in like he told me. I just wear for near sight but right now I dont seem to be able to see anything that is really small. O.K if I am far away. Out of 4 specialist he is the only one working at the moment . So many doctors seem to be taking retirement in the last 4 months. Usually they stay past age 67. Same with my ENT.all but 1 and a NP left. I moved mine to Dec. and now they cancelled it. Maybe like us they don't want to be close to people. Other than the young people this virus is beginning to scare to Seniors. I really didn't think that the US would be the worse country where it doesn't seem to be improving any.
JeanneP

FlaJean

Marilyne, after cataract surgery a cloudiness may appear.  The laser treatment clears it. It only takes a few minutes and only has to be done once.  I've had both eyes done now.  Frankly, I didn't notice any cloudiness but the ophthalmologist said it would make my vision crisper.

Everything quiet here now.  I heard some bombing a little earlier, but I guess the Navy's practice session is over.

5 pm already.  Where does the time go?  Been reading quite a bit but not doing much else.

Hope everyone is doing OK.

MarsGal

Remember a while back when a bunch of us were interested in the new Littoral class USS Indianapolis as it got launched and headed down the St. Clair River? Well, I ran across this clip this morning showing the interior and comments from the crew now that it is on station. Kind of interesting, not too long. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IE_S5C5Qbg0

After a week or more of cloudiness off and on and threats of rain, we finally just had a shower. The grass really needs it. It is cool at 72oF right now. I don't know if it hit the 83 temp that the weatherman was predicting. It looks like tomorrow we are back up into the low 90's.

I guess the disruptions had reached our area now. My pest control guy was here a while ago and said a bunch of blacks were harassing and older couple down by a local restaurant in Wormleysburg the other night. Someone took video of it with their cell. That is just down Rt. 11 & 15 a couple of miles. I can't find anything on the net about the incident, so I can't confirm. I didn't look real hard. I just hope when I go to feed George's cats I don't get caught in something like that.

JeanneP

Did anyone else see the crowd at the Duluth Canal at 8:30 tonight. Waiting for  that ship going thru. Can't believe it. Must have been hundreds just body to body watching. Just taking that chance on seeing a scene like that. Now wonder this virus is spreading so bad. People even holding babies.
JeanneP

MarsGal

Jeanne, that happens a lot at Duluth. I wonder if many of them watch the shipping schedules to see which ones they want to watch. Everyone has their favorites and there is usually a crowd went the likes of the Paul R. Tregurtha comes in or out of the harbor. The Paul is heading for Duluth and is currently (5:44amEST) heading up channel toward the Soo Locks.

BTW, the keel for the first US flagged ship Great Lakes bulk carrier 35 years is being laid  at Sturgeon Bay, WI for the Mark W. Barker, which has been named for the son of Kaye and Paul. There will be much interest and celebration when she launches, as both mom and dad ships are very popular.

Not much to report today except that the "hives" or whatever appears to be clearing up with a course of Prednisone. I have no idea what triggered the rash. Don't recall ever having anything like this before. It was probably something I ate since I have been trying food products that are either other brands or different products that I never had before to fill out my grocery shopping. It is an opportunity to try out new products and brands, but not if you are allergic to something. The only food allergy I have is very, very low on the scale and is for egg whites. I get a reaction to Tetanus shots, but not to eating whole eggs. In fact, none of the allergens I was tested for broke the minimum threshold except for one mold that was just above. I took part in a freebie allergy test offered by Rite Aid years ago. They tested for 10 common allergies including a mold, timothy grass, and egg whites. I forget what the others were.

Marilyne

Mars Gal - Good morning to you.  Not a lot of action in here the past couple of days, but I keep hoping that things will pick up.   I'm glad you're feeling better, as far as your rash is concerned.  Skin problems seem to flare up and then disappear, only to return in the future at a most inconvenient time.   My skin complaint is Rosacea, which can return, during any season of the year, and flare out of control.  If I get especially worried, excited, upset, I can feel my face start burning really bad, and  looks like I have a bad sunburn.  No cure, so you have to learn what works best for you to get it under control.

JeanneP - As MarsGal said, there is usually a big crowd that gathers at Duluth to watch the "Paul", go down the canal and under the bridge.  that's my favorite ship, but I've been missing him this Summer.

Jean - I had my cataract surgery about ten years ago, and have been very happy with long term results.  Now my eye complaint is Dry Eye.  I don't think it's brought on by having cataracts removed, because AJ has it much worse than I do, and he has never had cataracts.  Actually I have more problems with my ears, than I do my eyes.

Heads Up, Boat Watchers!    Sailboat race today from Port Huron to Mackinac Island.  First race starts at 12:10 (Port Huron Time).
Web cam now showing sailboats going out into the lake.
Edit:    PH cam not showing sailboats starting race and I can't find a web site that does.

I also had laser after cataract surgery.  Easy peasy - didn't even have to have eyes dilated.  My optho. provides warm muffins and choice of coffee, tea or juice while nurses are doing post-surgery things (hospital).  I asked him if these were available after the laser (which was in his office) and he said, "No - but we might have a bologna sandwich someplace back there." I politely declined!  ;D

BBL    Going back to ship watching.  Have to remember I'm an hour earlier than PH.

JeanneP

My ENT. appt. cancelled 3 times. Dec. was the last date. Only doing ears on a Friday with now only one Doctor and one NP working. I really need the usual wax removal that they do every 6 month. told them that but didn't help. Same Dept for 45 years. May go higher up with complaint later. I have been doing the home treatment and one ear seems to have opened up but not the other. Got a little more hearing in it but need what they do.

Back with the thunder again but the ice balls have stopped on my roof. Just pitch dark out and only 5:50. Cooling down. Maybe will try open window tonight if storm quits. Turn A/C off. I am getting so tired of being stuck most of the time in the house. Think everyone is because people are smiling less and more complaining. No patience on phones. Crime has gone up 3 times the amount here our paper said today.

All enjoy your sunday....
JeanneP

Marilyne

Callie - It's been a few days since you've posted . . . Good to see you!   I was just about ready to send a search party out looking for you! :D  I missed the sailboat race today, but tomorrow I hope to see the Summer Sunday Boat Parade, at Charlevoix.  You would be two hours earlier for Charlevoix.

JeanneP - I hope you get your ears taken care of soon. All of the doctors everywhere, are way behind in their scheduling, because of corona virus, so you may have to wait for a while yet.

Jenny - I'm thinking that you might have stayed with your brother for a few days, after the funeral?   I hope he is doing reasonably well, and that we hear from you soon.

Just a little after 8:00 PM here, so plenty of time to watch a movie before before bed time.   See you all in the morning.

FlaJean

A sunny hot day here in northwest florida.  Very quiet day.  We don't have many unusual birds visiting in the summer.  They leave and comeback when the weather cools in the fall and it gets cold in the North.  Of course, we always have our bluebirds, sparrows, mourning doves  and cardinals.

Hope everyone is having a good day.  Will this pandemic ever be over!

CallieOK

Good Afternoon,

Marilyne, I've probably been reading posts on my Tablet and I don't type as well on it as I do on the PC.

What time is the Charlevoix race?  I just scrolled back to "dark thirty" and up to current time and didn't see any sail boats.

'Twas a wild night around OKC last night!  About 10:30, hurricane force winds and rain swept through part of the metro area - continuing for several hours.  Fortunately, "north of noon", where I live, wasn't affected.  However, "west of 9:00", where Parents of The Grands live, was hit hard.  I was very worried that they had not only lost power but had damage to house.
Dil posted a video of the back yard this morning and it wasn't as bad as I expected.  Worst loss was a set of matching Adirondack chairs connected with a table that Sir Carson had made and won a prize for during high school.  The set is splintered and we hope he can put it back together.

A couple of thrushes have discovered the suet feeder.  They're almost too big to perch and bend over to peck the suet. Fun to watch.  Have also noticed two hummingbirds feeding on the Hosta blossoms right outside my window.
Too bad the screen blurs any picture I try to take from inside.

I've been working on the family history biographies and am about done with the first draft.  Now #2 son wants me to put together an album of pictures as a 20th anniversary gift for his wife - on August 5th!!!! He's supposed to bring them over on Wednesday evening.
Looks as if I'll have plenty to do in the next few weeks.

We're supposed to be heading into a week of 100+º degree temperatures so, at least, I won't mind staying inside.

Keep Cool, Everyfriend - and Stay Safe.

So, Callie, Okla is where our wild night (morning really, 3:30 am) came from.  That awful wind woke me, thought my new roof was coming off.  You could hear the wind sounds, in the shrubs by my bedroom window.  At one point, a gigantic thump, and thats when I thought the roof was going.  I jumped up and put on shorts and Tshirt in case I had to bug-out.  It never rained one drop, nor thundered or lightning-ed.

Denver

It is late but I just could not let another day go by without saying HELLO.

We went to the store this afternoon to pick up a few things.  Decided to have brats for dinner and y thought I would get some of the cheap buns that are always so soft and hug your brat so well.  Got ready to use them and they we far from being fresh....not soft and almost stale smelling.  Expiration date is the 17t.  Then I picked up a package of the bakery cookies.....same store....they are hard and stale tasting.  I think they have been making things and then freezing them to keep up with the demand.  What ever the reason, they are awful.  We have been rather solum the past few days since the funeral on Wednesday.  It has been really hot and we will continue to be hot for the next week.

AMY, thank you for missing me.  I have had a pretty long conversation with my brother each day since the funeral. He is feeling down now after everything is over.  I think that is normal , but I feel so badly for him.

We still have to gather the refuse for our trash pickup tomorrow, so I had best go check out the fridge and see what needs to go.

Pleasant dreams to all.

MarsGal

Got a surprise yesterday. George invited me out to lunch. We ate at a Chinese buffet. The food was good. We were provided with disposable gloves with which to handle the food tongs and spoons, and wore our masks except for when we were seated.

I am trying to convince myself to go out and do a little weeding (I need the exercise). Won't take long. We had a decent rain the other night, but the grass is still slow to grow because of the heat and general dryness lately. Okay with me. We are still expecting the temps to hover in the high 80s and low 90s for the next week or more. Such a long stretch for this hot weather, so early in the summer.

Mostly, I have been reading and watching documentaries on YouTube and Prime Video lately. I just finished another series on the Silk Road and am almost through a Great Courses program on traveling through England, Scotland and Wales which, oddly, is not terribly interesting. That is probably because a lot of it I had already seen and/or read about elsewhere.

Marilyne

Good Morning everyone!  I didn't show up here yesterday, but will try to make up for it today,  by posting in all my favorite folders, especially here!   Bait and Tackle, will always give be warm memories of Mary Ann, as well as other friends who are also no longer with us, or who don't post much anymore.

MarsGal - Nice that you got a break yesterday, and had lunch with George.  A pleasant change from sheltering in place, and trying to keep up with house and yard work.   I really feel sorry for those who are sheltering in place, and don't have a yard of any kind to putter around in.  At least we can get outside and walk around and enjoy the fresh air, sprinklers, flowers, etc.   My two daughters live in apartments with no yard and not even a balcony/deck or patio.  No wonder they are both becoming depressed and hopeless.

Glad you are enjoying the documentaries on Prime.   We've been watching lots of World War II, docs, on Netflix and Amazon Prime.  Right now we're involved in a series about the War in the Pacific, which is very enlightening and fascinating to watch.  Of course I remember reading history books, memoirs and diaries on Iwo Jima, Midway, The Philippines, and all other battles, but it's incredible to watch actual video footage.   Plus, my Dad served in the Pacific, and was with Naval Air Transport, so he flew in and out of all of those islands for years, so it has a personal meaning for me.

Jenny - It's good to see a message from you also.  I've thought about your brother, and how lonely he must be.  Did they have any children, who can be with him at this time?    Also I hope both your Dad, and Michele, are doing well?   Is your son still vacationing in Vail, with his family?   If so, I hope you get a chance to see them again before they leave.

Looking forward to reading posts from all others who post here!  :)

shirljn

Marilyne, explain a little bit about that Amazon prime.  Sounds like it would have things that Danny, my hubby, would like to watch.

By the way, Hi to all in here.  I do come in here to read every once in a while.  Good intentions on my part, but laziness (again on my part) keeps me from posting.  So sorry.

Fun to see posts about "the weather", had some high 90's for several days, with Heat Indexes into the 100+.  It is miserable.  Funny about MarsGals's grass being slow to grow with the heat (hmm) with all our heat here, and no rain, my grass is probably 3 inches high, and the mowing guy is not due until thursday.  It was up by at least an inch three days after he mowed it.  We're on an every other week schedule.  I would attempt to do it myself if I had a self-start, push button mower.  I can't yank on those pull-cords.  I've thought about a battery-operated or electric mower, but they are so darn much more expensive than the gasoline ones. Everybody on the 4 or 5 streets around me has a lawn-guy, all different ones. My house is on a corner lot, so tends to be a bit more expensive to have it done than just a front & back mow & edge.  My late hubby used to mow every week, so the lawn was really pretty.  Now I have beaucoup weeds and grass that grows like "jack & the beanstalk".  I'd hate to think how high it will be if we ever get rain again.  We had a good series of rains back in early/mid June, but now everybody else is getting wet, not us.  From time to time there are pop-up showers which never last long, and are usually to our East & South.

Went to the grocery store yesterday, Kroger's.  This time I didn't get run over by a lady's shopping cart (maskless) and didn't have to chastise anyone for not wearing a mask.  They have signs on the doors and windows you know.  My daughter wants me to start using a click-list, or delivery.  I have seen a lot of you here mentioning not getting what you ordered, or items being poor quality. So I don't know if I'm ready for that yet.

As far as the libraries are concerned, I would love to be able to go and browse, or just go and pick up what I had on request.  So far I haven't gotten their call about the one book I had on request.  They're supposed to call, and let you know it's in, and set a time for pickup outside the building.  Guess they are overrun with that.
Enough of my yadda, yadda, yadda.  You all stay cool, stay safe, keep excercising your minds if the body's not up to it.  Virtual hugs to all.

Good Afternoon,

Jenny, I certainly understand the solemn feeling since your sister-in-law's funeral.  I also understand your feelings about an open casket service.

Tome,  I just received my third grocery order - using Shipt - and I really like the service. Friends who use Instacart have had positive comments about it and one family is sold on the Walmart Curbside Pickup service.
All three of my "shoppers" have been fantastic.  Each has called while shopping to discuss substitutes for items on my list that they couldn't find and all have brought the sacks into the kitchen (wearing masks).  They put the sacks on the counter and are out the door....no chit chat and I suspect they're trained not to do that.

You can find which stores in your area use which service on the service web site  (works better than going to the store web site). On both Shipt and Instacart, you see a picture of the item along with the brand, size and price; you also see if it's out of stock or on sale. At the bottom of the page you have a choice to "See More" and there's also a place to type in something you haven't found.  Only thing I've had no luck with is K-pods for hot tea.  I've bought them in the store but they aren't available on-line.

Although you have to register with Shipt before seeing the items available, you don't have to put anything in your cart and it's possible to cancel the account if you don't like what you see. I didn't see a couple of items on the picture list but, when I typed the name into the search box, both were available.

I've had a productive day and am ready to settle in for the evening.  Hope there'll be a breeze and I can sit out on the patio for a while about sunset.

Stay Cool and Stay Positive, Everyfriend.

MarsGal

Forgot to ask in any of you have been following the USS Bonhomme Richard fire in San Diego?
Looks like there isn't much smoke now. The helicopters and fire tugs are still pouring water on it though. This morning I saw that there were about 60 injuries as of then from fighting the fire.

JeanneP

I don't think I would use the Internet Grocery shopping but I do believe it is going to stay even after all this is over. Many people just like it so much. Me, I love to spend time and check everything I buy. specially veg and meat from the butcher shop. Also walking around gives exercise.

Good morning to all.  Don't fall over backwards, but tis the errant Shirley typing a morning message!   ;)

Marsgal, interesting about your Chinese outing.  We have a Chinese restaurant that we used to enjoy going to, maybe we should try it out, hoping they are as careful as yours was/is.

Tome, I am kind of in the same boat as you, excepte my hubby is still living but unable to mow the grass any more.  We have it done & they do a pretty good job, but do not pull weeds or trim bushes.  I hired them to do it once, but they just sprayed weedkiller on the weeds.  I was not too satisfied with that at all.

Callie, interesting about your grocery shopping.  I have looked into the Walmart site & was going to try it out (it is getting tough to walk the store any more).  What they had listed was very limited and did not contain some items I would have liked to order.  But, after reading your experience I think I will go to one of those that you suggested.  Thanks for the info.

Hi to everyone in here - not going to start naming names cuz I might forget someone.  Cannot have that happen!

Marilyne

Good Morning once again.  It's good to see so many of our old friends checking in here yesterday, and again today!

shirleyn - So glad you have returned.  Please keep dropping in to tell us what you've been doing, and if you are still sheltering in place, in Florida?  Do you live in one of the Florida "Hot Spots"?  Are you and Danny able to get out for shopping, hair cuts and restaurants?   Everything is closed here, except for grocery stores and pharmacies.   Some restaurants here are offering outside dining on sidewalks, and even in the street.  It doesn't look at all comfortable to me, so I will wait for happier and healthier times ahead.

Are Barber shops open, or have you been cutting Danny's hair?  I've cut AJ's hair twice, following a tutorial on YouTube.   The first time I was pleased with the outcome, but the second time, not so much!  :-[

Callie - I don't think we have Shipt or Instacart?  We are happy with ordering online from Safeway, and then driving to the local store and having them put the bags in the trunk.  The store is only about three blocks from us, so not a long drive.  I get tired of the selection of food there, so I've been going to another local market about once a week or ten days, to get a change of items.   Other than that, still stuck at home.   ::)

JeanneP - I much prefer to walk through the store and select my groceries and meat.  But with t he situation getting worse here in California, I rely mostly on online ordering.   I wonder if it will ever be back to normal ion our lifetime?

MarsGal - YES, we have been following the USS Bonhomme Richard, disaster.  It is just terrible, but unfortunately is not getting much media coverage, what with all the Covid-19 and political mess.

FlaJean

"Sixty-three people have now been treated for minor injuries as the fire aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard burns for a fourth day."  Stars and Stripes (www.stripes.com)

I follow the Stars and Stripes on Twitter.  The Pres. is trying to shut down the newspaper and I sure hope he is not successful.

We are having a rainy day here.  We had some sun earlier but it looks now like this rain is going to go on for awhile.

I saw a notice earlier that Walmart will require masks in all their stores.  The last time we were there for groceries about half of the people were wearing masks.

I haven't accomplished much today.  I do have a couple of things I need to do so I should get busy.  Have a good day everyone.
