Thanks, Jackie, for the herbal tea suggestions.

I've got a small Keurig coffee pot that takes coffee K-cups and I want to see if I can find some herbal tea k-cups as it takes so long to boil water in the teapot on the electric range.  One of these days when the sun is again shining, I'll see if Walmart has them.  Usually, if the local Walmart doesn't have what I need, I'll have to head across the Mid-Bay bridge to Destin.  Living in a small town does have its limitations when it comes to shopping.

Jenny, I think you have more wildlife than we do.

very quiet in the forum today.  Hope everyone is having a good day.

Patricia - I hadn't realized that there was a problem with the software. Maybe that's why there was no-one here the other day.

Jean - Happy Birthday to Gigi! Our youngest daughter is also 54. More storms on the way for the Gulf Coast. Some of those areas can't take any more flooding.  :(

We had a beautiful day here. Cool, breezy and no rain! I opened the doors to let the fresh air in. It was nice not to have the A/C running.

Yesterday we took Donna and Mike out for a belated celebration of their anniversary, which was the 10th. We went to brunch at Harbor Hills again. I was disappointed that the view was clouded in. We did get to see one of the peacocks hanging out on the deck. They're used to people so we could get quite close. On the way home we ran into some very heavy rain.

MarsGal - How many days till George will be back? The kitties must be very glad to see you come.

Jackie - I like oolong tea. I find it settles my tummy!

Jenny - I've stopped buying boneless pork chops because they always seem tough. I never thought of pounding them. (Did I mention that I'm not the greatest cook?  :)  )

Joy - This is the perfect place to vent once in awhile.  It's tough to always put up a good front. Here, you are among friends, most have been around for many years! It helps to know you're not alone.

I can relate to the way everyone is feeling these days. It doesn't help when I feel sick a lot of the time. Just being able to be outside is a mood booster, so is coming in here to "see" all of you.

Marilyne - Of all of us, I think you've had it the hardest, between the lockdown, the extreme heat and the fires and smoke. It's the lack of freedom that I miss most, also. I hope things get better out there soon.

MarsGal

Morning everyone!

Bev, George took a few extra days this year to visit Williamsburg on his way to Virginia Beach.4 The won't be back until the 26th.

I forgot to mention that Sue and I had lunch at Cracker Barrel on Friday. We had to wait for about 15 minutes to be seated and then we were seated at a table that had just been cleared and wiped down. She had her usual, trout, and I had the blackened catfish.

Traffic around here is picking up even more now. Bummer! I really did enjoy not having to deal with a lot of traffic and people. All this Covid-19 business has made me even more of a "hermit" than I was before.

Jackie, I have always been fond of peppermint tea. I used to have a big patch which I would cut and dry for the winter. It was great for clearing my sinuses and oh, so wonderful after coming in from working in the year during the cold weather.

Jean - I was surprised to read about your next door neighbor's video of the baby black bear!   I never would have thought there would be bears in Florida!  I thought they were always in mountainous areas, like here in California.   Sad to say that many bears did not survive our recent prolonged wildfires.   A few burned and injured ones were rescued, and taken to the UC Davis Veterinary Hospital.    My youngest, Sandy, turned 51 in April.  AJ was the youngest in his family, with just one older brother.  I was the older sister in my family.  My brother was three years younger.

MarsGal - I'm sure George will enjoy his side trip too Williamsburg. I've always wanted to see it, but never will now at this late date.  I remember watching a movie about Williamsburg, when I was in elementary school.  I was so impressed, and have never forgotten it.

Beverly - I think Donna, and my oldest daughter Shelley, are the same age - both born in 1958?  Shelley, turned 62 in May.  Our son, Brad was 59, in March.   I'm glad you got out for an anniversary dinner with Donna and Mike.  Brad and wife Jackie, came over on Sunday, with a belated birthday present for AJ.  (His b-day was September 15th.)  They brought their dog, so we sat out in back on the deck, and just talked and drank some ice tea.   We are planning to go out to dinner together, as soon as the restaurants are open for inside dining.   I hope you breathing problems are okay?  You wouldn't be  able to live in California, with our prolonged fires and smokey air. The season lasts so long now, and most senior living facilities have had to install air filtering systems,  to accommodate those with breathing difficulties.

Jenny - I'm curious about spetzel?   What exactly is it?  We haven't been to Costco since the Pandemic started, but I don't ever remember seeing it there?  Also, I meant to tell you that I followed your advice, and got my dil, Jackie, an air fryer for her birthday in August.  I don't think she has used it yet, or she would have mentioned it when they were here Sunday.  They were gone for a week at her brother's place in Palm Springs, then a week at her sister's house in the mountains, so I don't think she's been home long enough to use it.

Jackie - I've never been much of a tea drinker, but I do like all of the herbal teas I've tasted over the years - especially chamomile,  I do have regular black tea here all the time, and drink it mostly as ice tea.

Patricia -  I just saw the picture of the "tea drinker"! ha ha!   Very timely to the discussion on tea.

A few minutes ago i went online, placed in my basket a supermarket order, then when i went to click on a home delivery slot, not one slot available, not even one available in the whole month of October, here we go again, panic buying has started...

Bigelow's "Perfect Peach Herbal Tea" has a wonderful flavor.  If you like a classic tea, always go with Twining's "Lady Grey". (a lighter alternative, I think to the regular "Earl Grey").

Good afternoon from a chilly and wet (thanks to "overflow" from Beta) central Oklahoma.

Flajean, I also drink tea and usually enjoy a small mug of "Sleepy Time" chamomile at bedtime.  Also like peppermint for settling a grumbly tummy.  For breakfast, I like Earl Grey and have been able to get that and the decaffinated herbal tea pods at my supermarket (Crest). However, the Earl Grey pods aren't listed on the available groceries when I order on-line and, since I have a "plethora" of Family Size tea bags, I haven't yet tried to type in that request.

A friend introduced me to reusable pods that hold loose tea or coffee. I ordered a set of 3 from the Miles Kimball catalog but a Google search  for "reusable coffee pods" just now listed them available from Amazon, Walmart and a few other places.  Mine came with a scoop for measuring loose tea but the amount in a tea bag is the same amount as the scoop. (I get four from each Family Size bag)
The pods can go in the dishwasher, too.

Most exciting thing around my house has been seeing a big skunk under the bird feeder when I closed the blinds just before dark one evening.  Sure glad it wasn't there the evening before as I came back from a patio visit with next-door neighbor.  :o

TTYL

MarsGal

I've seen a few live skunks (as opposed to roadkill) over the years, but the two I remember are a young'un backed up to the wall of my apartment building when I came home from work at night (so cute. I stopped to tell him if he meant to spray me in defense, he was pointing in the wrong direction), and the other was a gorgeous long haired, double-striped number who was just gliding across lawn and road as I was waiting to be picked up after fencing club.

I've never been to Williamsburg either, Callie. George has been several times, but I never got to go with him for various reasons. We used to watch the Woodwright show on PBS. George was a big fan, but oddly, when he was at Williamsburg, he never stopped at Roy Underhill's workshop.

Good morning, cool and dreary now with autumn hues and falling leaves. Nothing new here during the sixth month of our building's total lockdown. This city was doing well until they began opening back up in July. Now cases are surging and everything's closing again. Our largest city to the south is having a crisis with burgeoning new cases and a populace that sees conspiracies behind every bush and is demanding a complete re-opening. At least that isn't happening here or at least not so openly.

I'm thinking of that old song verse that says, "I get by with a little help from my friends." If it weren't for the calls from local friends  checking in, Farrah's antics, and my friends in S&F and elsewhere on the web, life would be a lot more cumbersome.

so_P_bubble

Here numbers of sick people are growing alarmingly and daily. 6.800  in the last 24h!
From Monday night we will be in total lockdown, with just supermarket and pharmacies opened. Today there was not even one place in town opened for take away! The town apparently looks like a ghost town. I haven't been out for months, except for that stay in hospital. It is getting depressing...
S&F and PSP are my salvation!

patricia19

I know what you mean, and it is both astonishing and horrifying how so many folks treat it as a joke, a hoax, or some political power play! From today's CNN,

"That's not an exaggeration. There were 4,795 worldwide deaths yesterday. That's three deaths per minute.

To put it in another perspective, the total US coronavirus death toll is equivalent to one 9/11 attack every day for 66 days. The US coronavirus death toll is more than the number of Americans killed in battle in the five most recent wars combined: the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Iraq War, the War in Afghanistan, and the Persian Gulf War.

No matter how you do the math, you're left with truly horrifying figures. But those figures represent so much more. They represent real lives, real people who leave behind devastated families, and unfinished legacies. People who were it not for this virus, would probably still be alive today. No comparison can properly convey such a loss."

FlaJean

Marilyne, (from Wikipedia) You are most likely to see bears in 5 major public areas in Florida: Ocala National Forest, Osceola National Forest-Okefenokee Swamp, Apalachicola National Forest, Big Cypress National Preserve, and Eglin Air Force Base.

We saw black bears several times when we went to the Ocala National Forest and we live close to some of the Elgin AF Base land.  The Air Force owns a lot of land here in the Panhandle.

I guess you can see I don't have much to talk about 😁 so just spouting a little trivia.  We did have a little sun today.  I'm not sure I like this Chamomile tea, I think I will try one of the fruity type next.  I use to love Earl Grey but since I've gotten "old" it doesn't agree with me,  It's no fun getting "old".

Wish i could be and feel optimistic, just dreading our next six months...It wasn't too long ago when we were told when we would " peak," believing we would eventually get through the worst, well we did, but we are now soon to be facing it all again, our second wave... Our new cases are getting higher day by day, this is like waiting for lift off, anytime now...Told six months ago it would happen, told it will be worse than our first...Wonder if everyone here in UK are taking this as serious or pooh pooing it believing it wont happen...hope we are all proven wrong, our Boris and his team have got it wrong... In the meantime this is getting me on edge...the waiting for it to happen knowing it will take hold from October...Before it just came out of nowhere and hit us, this time we are waiting for it to arrive, wishing it would just fade away...It is not even that the first one had gone away, it hasn't, it is still taking lives...how many more lives is this going to take...I would like to think i am worrying over nothing, that this wont be as bad as i am thinking it will be...even wondering if i will be one of our unfortunates, instead of thinking i am immune to it, that this only happens to other people...
I dont know what is worse, something nasty and unpleasant hitting us out of the blue, or knowing it is coming and preparing ourselves for it....A bit like having surgery in hospital, knowing you are going in to have something unpleasant done, and getting worked up over it, only to find it wasn't as bad as you had thought...all those days of unnecessary worry which could have been avoided...Well all in all this is wasting a good year from our lives...Does this C - Virus know what it has caused to the world, does it even care...

Just putting my feelings pen to paper, and letting them out..As people who are being interviewed in the streets on tv keep mentioning, there is no end in site...if we just had a glimmer of hope...and what utter mess this is going to leave behind, our countries will take some time to repair themselves...I think we can forget the word of getting back to normality...nothing will ever be normal again...If i can muster up one positive, this has taught us a harsh lesson of not taking anything for granted...we can only hope and pray some good comes out of this bad, that it makes our world a better place, also for the ones left who survived it.....

Strange morning, first my mail dropped through my front door, next followed number one knock at my front door, took in my designer face mask delivery, came in, then second knock at my front door, took in my parcel of specialised tea bags collection, seconds later, third knock at my front door, baring in mind i had two unopened parcels, unopened mail waiting to be read and dealt with, all this whilst in the middle of adjusting an online food order and drinking a freshly made cup of tea, then knock number three, was my lovely Indian lady downstairs neighbour with a handful of documents in her hand, i let her in, she had come to me, chosen me to sign as her dying Will witness, i have never been asked to sign someone's Will as there witness before, of course i obliged and placed my signature-address in the required box...neighbour is in the process of soon moving to a new address not far, ( that her son has been helping her to get, he lives nearby, ) all this happened within minutes...wonder what else is in store for me today..

Good morning Jackie.  You are the early bird here this morning.

I am only checking in as I have to get ready to go out for blood work.  So, it is an early morning for me also.

Jackie, you sure have had a busy morning with all your visitors.  Your India neighbor sure sounds like a nice person if she wanted you to be a witness to her signing her will.  She must be a very caring person.  If she is moving soon, I am sure you will miss her.

Hope everyone will have a good and safe day.

There is not much nowadays to make me laugh but i am sitting at the computer eating a sandwich and part listening-watching our tv courtroom programme with Judge Rinder, the case is an elderly mother and mid age daughter, something about the mother put aside what he described loosely as a fund, money to cover her own funeral, as it was not long when she lost her own hubby, think the case is about she lent some of this money to her daughter who for whatever reason has yet to pay this money back to mom...Well judge Rinder asked her had she picked the songs out, mom said no, they both agreed she hadn't gone that far, then next breath Judge Rinder said " do be careful, in certain church services they ban certain songs, not long ago i ( he ) was reading about a woman who insisted that when she past on they played " Ding Dong the Witch is dead " this got everyone laughing, i was eating my sandwich at the time...
" There is no present like the time "

Marilyne

Jackie - You gave me a good laugh, first thing this morning!  Someone choosing, "Ding, Dong, the Witch is Dead", to be played at their funeral,  would get high marks for a good sense of humor, whether true or not.  Now you've got me thinking about other such songs, but I can't come up with any that could top that one!  ;D

Jenny - I hope your early doctor appointment was satisfactory and that everything is okay? AJ likes those early doctor visits, but I always make mine for afternoon.  Although I get up between 6:00 and 7:00, getting out of the house and driving somewhere at that hour is uncomfortable for me.  Be sure to look back at my last message, about spetzel?

Jean - Same thing with me, about the Earl Grey tea.  I used to order tea when I went out to lunch, and I always chose Earl Grey.  Now it doesn't taste to same to me.  Seems a bit too strong or acidic?

Callie - I recall you mentioning a lighter version of EG?  That sounds like something I would like to try.  Next time I'm browsing in the tea section at the market, I'll take a closer look at the selections.

Well, today is a big day for me . . . finally getting a haircut, after six months!  I feel good about going to my long time hairdresser, as the shop caters to "ladies of a certain age".  ::)  I know the shop will follow the Covid protocol for masks, cleanliness, et al.

Good morning, waking up here to another rainy day with wind and falling leaves. I had a phone call that woke me up, letting me know Dora had a fall on their outside steps and now has a pretty pink cast on her right arm. It's been autographed by her doctor, which she says was a nice touch! She told me she is now the supervisor, and Alan is the chief cook and bottle washer! Even more importantly, he is the master of the litterboxes!

Quick edit, we had a severe weather report last night that snow is falling in the foothills above 1500 feet and to take care. So it's going to be earlier this year than the standard Halloween first snowfalls.

Good Morning,

Jackie,  I also got a Good Giggle from the funeral song. Reminded me of the woman who said she wanted female pall bearers because, if men wouldn't take her out while she was living, she surely didn't want them taking her out when she was dead!

Marilyne,  I haven't had Earl Grey tea since son brought the big box of family-size teabags (remember my mentioning a gallon of Listerine?  ;) ) but I don't know of any "lighter" version.  Someone did mention Lady Earl Grey - maybe that's it.

Speaking of son (she said segueing into another story  ;D ), this son and I have begun having "dinner dates" every two weeks when his wife gets a mani/pedi after working hours.  We alternate providing dinner and he brings in a meal from various restaurants when it's his turn.  That's the closest I've gotten to eating out since....probably....last March. Sometimes, she comes by when she's done so I always fix enough so she can have a plate if she wishes to.

Miss Emily barely missed Beta - or vice versa.  She flew to Houston last Friday to meet some sorority sisters for a weekend of fun at the beach....in Galveston!!!!  They enjoyed sun/sand on Saturday but their plans to leave Monday morning were quickly changed to do so on Sunday.  Fortunately, she was able to switch her Monday flight to the same time on Sunday.  Whew!

Our weather switches from hot to chilly and back again - and so do my furnace and a/c.   Reminds me of a line from an old Peter, Paul and Mary song about two cars having a drag race.  At one point, Paul "intones"  "The. car. was. internally. hemoraging."

And on that note, I shall wish Everyone an Enjoyable Day and go find something Useful to do.

Vanilla-Jackie

Callie...
...that's two laughs I've had in one day, things must be on the up...yes the lack of men taking us out, when we wanted to go out... :)

Your mention of Galveston, now i am dueting with Glen Campbell, well not literally of course...

Jackie, the only place I can find Teapigs "Up Beet" in our area is at the Vitamin Shop across the bay from us in Destin.  Next time we go to Destin I'll stop there.  They advertise it as an "energy" boost---sure sounds like something I can use.😊

We are seeing some sun today!  The days are getting cooler now and very pleasant.

Patricia, our plumber was here Tuesday to go over some work we want done and I asked him if he still goes fishing in Alaska.  He goes every year and he said he just got back and it seemed like the Alaska he was used to----cool and rainy.  He said the previous three years had been too warm and unlike the usual weather.  I should have asked him where in Alaska he goes fishing, but he was so busy showing us photos of salmon and halibut he caught that I forgot.

I cooked a pot roast yesterday with potatoes and carrots and we have plenty for leftovers today and also sandwiches for a couple of days.  The roast is fork tender and sure hit the spot.

Joy, I hope you have good results with your blood test.  I still have my order for my regular blood test but my next medical visit isn't until next year so I'm not in a big hurry.  I had put it off because of the pandemic but things seem to be a little more normal at present so must push myself one of these mornings.

Have a good day everyone.

patricia19

Jean, you had the same meal I had last night except mine was reheated. I have been purchasing family-sized packages of meat for years, and then either cooking large amounts to freeze or placing them in ziplock freezer bags in smaller sizes of one or two pieces due to meal prepping.

I also purchase monthly, large amounts of vegetables and fruit and meal prep them as well. Lately, I've been eating less, and that freezer is still full. It's hard to break long-standing habits, and I'm trying to eat what's in the house now and prepping less.

I read somewhere that our taste buds age and change along with the rest of us, and that is why your tea may no longer be appealing.

Marilyne

Patricia - Sorry to hear that your friend Dora, fell and broke her arm.   Now six weeks in a cast, which sounds daunting, but everyone says you quickly get used to it?   Maybe true when a person is young, but not easy for seniors.

I notice that many who post here, are commenting that they're eating less.  It's true of me also.  I just don't seem to have much of an appetite anymore. There is no way I can eat three meals a day, like in the past.  A late breakfast, and an early dinner work best for me now - both on the light side.

Callie - I looked back a few days, and see that it was Tome, who mentioned the Lady Earl Grey - a lighter version of regular EG.  I'm going to make a quick trip to the store today, so will check and see if I see it.

My visit to the Beauty Shop, was a big success yesterday!   It was good to see my long time hairdresser and friend Josie, although it was kind of a surreal experience.  The shop is medium sized with about eight stations, placed a comfortable distance from each other.   I walked in and Josie was there alone, so I was the only one in the entire shop.  Although this is the second week of opening, their usual clientele has not returned.  Just a few women each day.  I certainly do hope that things pick up for them.  It's the only shop in town that caters to older women.

MarsGal

I am one more to notice that the Earl Grey tea doesn't taste the same anymore. I am on the last box I will buy. That good strong bergamot flavor has all but disappeared. I've been buying Twining's Earl Grey since I was in my 20's. I tried several different brands over the years, but never cared for them.

Other teas I used to keep on hand: Boston's Orange Spice and their Mint tea, Constant Comment, an oolong tea with a light greenish color, mild taste, and a scent like hay, and Jasmine tea.

Today is to go back up to 80 before temps start dropping again. Traffic is now pretty close to normal again and the road crews are swarming all over the place with their orange cones and limited lanes. I went through four yesterday and today. Everyone is in on the act: the storm sewer cleaning crews, PPL replacing poles, water company in several areas replacing valves, and bridge inspections. The only ones I didn't see out and about were UGI and the road repaving and sidewalk replacement crews; they'll be busy once the water company is done.

I'll probably go feed the cats again tomorrow morning since I don't expect George to get home from his trip early.

Eggplant Parmesan and a slice of garlic bread for dinner tonight.

patricia19

Good morning, another wet, dreary, and rainy day! The weather report says, as of this morning, "ISSUED: 4:50 AM SEP. 25, 2020 – NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE
...Accumulating Snow Possible This Morning Near Fairbanks...

In the hills near Fairbanks, snow levels have fallen to 1500 feet
this morning. Snow accumulation up to 1 inch above 2000 feet
expected through this morning. Snow levels will rise, with
precipitation diminishing going into this afternoon.

So, today will be yet another inside day.

Dora called this morning, her arm aches, it was broken in two places, but it's manageable. She hates her meds, says they make her cranky.  Alan is missing his poker nights, but the cats are happy everyone's home.

A Good Friday HELLO to ALL.  It sure is a pretty morning here.  We are to break another temperature record today.....so many of those lately.  One of our awful forests fires here in the state is completely under control FINALLY.  They sure have been awful.

We had our yearly physicals yesterday and everything is good....we both need more exercise.....that was a given, but our bloodwork numbers are fantastic! Sure glad to have that over and done.  Now I have all kinds of tests I am do for...mamo, dexascan, colonoscopy etc.  UGH! We both got our flu shots.  Onward and upward.

I sure hope I will be careful today and not do the dumb thing I did the other night and go back yo look at a post and loose this one....SAVING THIS RIGHT NOW! It is a good thing I did as I managed to loose a lot more that I wrote because I got long winded and did not save more....just glad I saved this much😩😢

MARILYNE, part of what I lost was a comment to you asking if you could please email me at the email address that I have on this sight....I would like to send you info about the spatzel and part of what I have are pictures of the container I purchased.  Look forward to hearing from you soon. I see you posted while I was also.  Happy your hair cut appointment went well for you and you enjoyed your visit with Josie.

CALLIE, I lost a comment to you about my being happy for you being able to have the dates with your son every other week.  Precious time to spend together.  Happy Emily was able to meet her friends and just glad she was able to get out of there before the storm arrived.

JACKIE, I enjoyed reading all of your post and the funnies that you shared.  Sure is nice to see you being able to laugh and enjoy some of the goings on in your new life location😘

JEAN, it is I terestin* that something as innocent as a flavor of tea just might not sit well with us in our older life.....sometimes I really question my thoughts about something I might not like anymore or that does not seem to like me, but it is a fact.  As they say, old age ain't for sissies😘

PATRICIA, I, too, buy bigger packages of meat and cut them up or brake them down into a bitter size for meals down the road.  As a matter of fact, I am going to go dice up some chuck roast as soon as I finish here.  The package I have will make three meals for us, where as if I cook it whole we w8ll be eating it all week!  Sorry to read about your friend Dora's fall.  I hope her arm heals well and she can get buy with the cast.

Have a good rest of your day.
