Patricia, my food episode wasn't as interesting as your daughter's, but I had one too.  Mother had gone to church and Dad was watching me.  When Mother returned, she asked if I had been good and Dad said I had been good.  I don't know what Mother was going to do that she discovered it, but I had mixed the bins of salt and sugar.  I probably was three or four years old.  I don't remember the incident, but I do remember the sugar canister was pale green.

Joan, I wish our tempertures were in the ninties! I believe we got gyped this summer!

MaryAnn, I don't know, mixing all that sugar and salt together, Wow!  :o

My mother was afraid of fires and disasters with her granddaughter being locked in. She would probably have figured out a way to save us all, locked in or not!

MaryPage

When I was tiny, sugar came in cloth sacks, not in boxes.  I can remember crawling into a low kitchen cupboard and closing the door behind me and sucking for ages on the corner of a sugar sack.

angelface555

MaryPage, in our house, food was for mealtimes and desserts weren't always scheduled to my preference. I remember one time, opening a can of Freezestone peaches and hiding in my closet with the can and a spoon.

I remember my mother opening the closet door, shaking her head and saying something that I don't remember and closing that door.  What I do remember is the sense of humiliation and guilt I felt afterwards.

JeanneP

Mine was drinking vinigar. I can still do that. Also such on lemons.

I remember getting in trouble during the war in UK. No fruit of any kind and my mother had managed to get her hands on a Can of Cling Peaches in Syrup. It was being saved for the Christmas day dinner. Would not be much else fancy.  It was in the Pantry for at least 5 months. I kept thinking about what they use to taste like and one day put a hole in the bottom so that the juice came out. So GOOOOD.. Come Christmas and mum and her surprise dessert. Opened the can and all just so moldy. I felt so awful

Expected high tomorrow is 100 degrees.

CallieOK

One day, while my mother was taking her afternoon nap,  I decided to drink the bottle of vanilla.  Of course, one tiny sip was all it took to send me scurrying to put it back
How can anything that smells so good and makes food so tasty have such a horrible flavor all by itself??   :o  :P   :o

angelface555

Oh, what a group of nefarious pranksters we were!  :D

junee

Hi MaryAnn
Think the lesson you gave me has paid.
Oh My, all those escapades, think I have forgotten mine.

Mary Ann

Junee, I don't remember my escapades unless something triggers the thoughts such as this discussion.  I probably had more, but I don't remember them.  I don't remember any that Norm had either and we all know he was not perfect!

Hi everyone.  We are in for another hot day.  I got out early and got haircut, stopped at the Walmart grocery area for some cream so I can make the sausage muffins Pat likes for her breakfast and then to the hardware store and finally pick up my replacement windows.  Apparently it has been there for some time but no one let me know until I called yesterday.

Unfortunately, Pat's release from pain was pretty short lived as she is back to using the walker  and ice packs.  She slept again last night in her easy chair.

My neighbor just stopped in and we had a very nice visit.  He was on the overpass as the motorcade of John Kennedy approached and saw the shooting.  He has given a talk about these events and subsequent history many times. I requested he give his talk to our Senior Lunch group at church and he accepted the invitation.  He will speak at our October meeting.

I now have the rest of the day to take things peacefully.  We had dinner in hand as will have the left over stir fry and port over fresh cauliflower that has been put through the food processor.  We used it in place of rice and it was actually quite good.  I really don't care for cooked cauliflower or broccoli but do like them both raw.

Thanks to all of you who made the comments about Pat feeling better.  Guess we just need to remain patient and trust that in a little while she will be back on her feet and be able to resume her normal activities.

MaryTX, I am pretty sure Pat will stay with a maintenance program with the chiropractor after these initial intensive sessions three times a wekk.  It sounds like you know well the pain that Pat is experiencing.

JeanneP, we do have adjustable beds (twin units attached to a king size headboard). I often sleep with both my head and feet elevated. Right now Pat isn't finding it comfortable although as I write she is asleep in the bed.

Joan, will be interesting to learn about the Sturgis experience.

MaryPage, I expect there are quite a few folks who have no idea what Pickleball is so here is a brief description:  Pickleball is a simple paddle game played using a perforated, slow-moving ball over a tennis-type net on a badminton-sized court. The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn! I was involved with the Senior Golden Games for 10 years and the last year they added Pickleball to the list of games played. I have never played it and won't.

Patricia, your stories of your two year old getting out of the house at night while frightening is still a bit humorous.  I also enjoyed your recounting the early cooking effort by the same child.

I enjoyed all the stories of childhood escapades.

angelface555

Good morning from another cloudy day in the Interior! Pretty much the same old thing here as I have activities scheduled, but when the time comes, I'm happier staying home.

Next Tuesday is more medical and other paperwork to be finished and faxed in. I also received the yearly paperwork to continue living here. It has to be filled out fully and sent in before they schedule an appointment to confirm all for another year. I also need to finish out my paperwork for a PSP group I'm thinking of joining. So much to do and so little will to do any of it....

I posted where I should have left well alone recently and reaped the consequences of another jumping in and making it political. When will I learn to realize that we are not allowed to use our own opinion or understanding anymore?

JeanneP

Junee.
Bet you can remember some funny escapades from when you were in the Service. Maybe you were not ornery as a child. I was always doing mischief. Fathers little Princess and he saw no wrong.

Larry. Sorry that Pat back hurting again. Something must be working that he is doing as she had a good day. So just patience is what it will take. Something I don't have.
Good you have that type of a bed.  if it wasn't that I just can't give up my Brass bed that I love and had for years. I would like to have a twin like your. Great for reading, raising legs up. All kind of things. maybe on day I will move and not use such a large bed as I have.

Angel. I know what you mean. I stay away from the political posting in S and F. Can't give any opinions in there. I was told to leave the country one time. Sort of funny.

Jeanne, I wasn't in the political folder, but there is one who will jump in and verbally attack you where ever  you post. Enough said.

halkel

Jeanne and Angel.  Obviously, I am considered someone who attacks you.  Which is simply not true.  I am passionate in my point of view, but will accept and welcome being corrected when I am wrong.

Jeannie, I don't know if you mean me when you said that I invited you to leave the country, I don't ever recall ever even thinking such a thing.

What I don't understand is that both of you and some others will pass up no opportunity to inject politically charged subjects into a conversation and then are offended if someone has a different view and call that different view an "attack".

Have it any way you like, but if you want to "discuss" your view backed by some facts please come over to politics and lets discuss it.  I do realize that many do not share my views but I along with other in politics to give our sources of our views, which you may not like, but nevertheless we do have a basis and do share them.

Two things Tom and I do not discuss are politics and religion.  As you might guess we differ in both.  Otherwise, we get along fine.

Mary Ann

JeanneP

Hal. No is wasn't you. Was a women I believe but can't think who. I know don't see her posting now. But the Political Forum here has not been a popular one. Been a few nasty things said and people leaving.
I quit saying anything as far back as when Pres. Obama was running first time.
My youngest daughter is terrible when it comes to discussing politics . right now she knows to not even start up on the Clinton/Trump . Not to even mention their names.  She is Texas and I swear they get so strong in their thinking there.
JeanneP

Politics, religion, and money are all topics to keep to ourselves unless we are in a site geared to those discussions.

larryhanna

Hi everyone on a beautifully clear but very warm morning here in South Carolina.  I will go to Sunday School and Church in a short while.  I fixed breakfast for Pat and myself, watered my plants and started to unload the dishwasher only to discover I hadn't turned it on last evening.  I will pick up a good lunch for us and then plan a quiet afternoon and evening.  Pat had a rough night and although she tried for a couple of hours, couldn't stand to stay laying down in bed.  I am so thankful she has a comfortable easy chair where she can be without pain.

One thing I learned from my days being active in the Masonic Lodge is that the two topics that divide mean and destroy harmony are politics and religion.

MaryPage

And money.  My great grandmother told me over and over and over:  "MaryPage, you must NEVER discuss politics, religion, or money in polite society.  To do so shows a total lack of good breeding."

wjoan

Dan and the crew are leaving Sturgis today.  He figures he will be home on the 17th.  Sounds like they had a terrific time and it was good of him to call me , enjoyed hearing from him.  Miss him.

CallieOK

Interesting comments on proper conversational topics.  When I went to France on a tour, we were told it would be impolite to inquire about homes, families or type of work but it was perfectly fine to discuss religion or politics.

On one sightseeing stop, our local guide was a cute young lady.  While we were visiting with her, one of the group asked if she had a boyfriend.  The guide seemed startled and looked at our tour escort, who said quietly,  "She's American".  The guide nodded "knowingly", politely said,  "My heart is taken" and quickly changed the subject.

JeanneP

Larry. I am not well up on either one of them.  And never talk money.  Not interested if they are rich or poor. Now retired I have made all I can now. Have to live with it. Don't borrow or loan.
JeanneP

JeanneP

I stopped getting shocked at what questions Americans would ask . Also all the things that they tell you. Will get life history in 30 min. From strangers. Also they make up. Storiesoneknows can't be true.

I think sometimes we forget that not everyone has the same viewpoint or the same politics and that's okay, no need to make it an issue, just walk away.

It
seems that lately my life has been
getting more complicated, and I want to thank those of you
who are brave enough
to still associate with me regardless of what I have
become.

The
following is a recap of my current
identity:

I
was born white, which makes me a
racist.

I
am a fiscal and moral
conservative, which makes me a
fascist.

I
am heterosexual, which makes
me a homophobe.

I
am non-union, which makes me a
traitor to the working class and an ally of big
business.

I
am a Christian, which makes me
an infidel. I am older than 60 and retired, which makes me a
useless old
person.

I
think and I reason; therefore
I doubt much that the main stream media tells me, which
makes me a reactionary.

I
am proud of my heritage and
our inclusive American culture, which makes me a
xenophobe.

I
value my safety and that of my
family; therefore I appreciate the police and the legal
system, which makes me
a right-wing extremist.

I
believe in hard work, fair play, and
fair compensation according to each individual's merits,
which makes me
anti-social.

I,
and my friends, acquired a
good education without student loans and no debt at
graduation, which makes me
some kind of odd underachiever.

I
believe in the defense and
protection of the homeland by all citizens, which makes me a
militarist.

Please
help me come to terms
with this, because I‘m not sure who I am
anymore!

Newest
problem...I'm not sure
which bathroom I should use

And I am also now being told it is impolite to talk Politics, Religion and
Money.  So I guess I am considered impolite.

Sandy

Oh poor Hal...

Sorry to see that you are still looking
at your life through the eyes of
other people.

That is really sad.

All I see in you is a very nice man,
who is a little insecure about what
other people think of him.

To hell with what other people say,
Hal..    Just be your self,  and have
a good day.

I like you just the way you are.
:hugs:

I watched the Olympic golf this afternoon.  Justin Rose of Great Britain won (gold), Henrik Stenson of Sweden was second (silver) and Matt Kuchar of the US was third (bronze).  It was very exciting and not decided until the 18th hole.

Tom just called that he is in Grand Haven; I don't know if he is at the park or not.

Dot and I did our usual Sunday morning thing; we each had burgers - mine was hamburger with everything and Dot had an oliveburger.  We cover the waterfront with topics in the hour that we sit there.
