Good morning, Buddies.  I slept late due to staying up to finish a lengthy novel I have been reading.  So all I've accomplished this morning was eating breakfast, cleaning up the kitchen, and my very warm morning walk!  I plan to stay inside the rest of the day.  I have some laundry to fold and another load needs to go into the washer.  After that I'll spend the afternoon reading.

Jane, I hope Ray will have a good day today.  I think the idea of Ice Cream treats and other sweet things he likes will appeal to him and will hopefully induce some weight gain.  It must be depressing for you to see him lose weight.  I remember those days when Bob didn't want to eat anything.  He just didn't have the energy to eat.

Hello to Every Buddy looking in.  Have a great day and STAY COOL!

Hi Buddies!

We're having a few really nice (for July) days - highs in the mid80s and low humidity.  I got out for a haircut, but that was all.  I'll play bridge here at the Terrace after supper, but that's pretty low key.

Stay cool!

Sue...that's where Ray is now...so tired he can barely walk 5 steps without stopping to rest.  Last night was a rough one...indigestion and then upset some water all over everything on his nightstand and floor.  I heard the noise, leapt out of bed and got it mopped up, etc. but at 3:00 am it's disturbing.  I finally had to take some meds to calm me down and get back to sleep.  We're both zombies this morning and may spend the day just being "slugs"...may stay in "soft clothes"...aka "jammies" all day long.  It's easier for me to stay here upstairs than to be running up and down, worrying about him.

Tomorrow my Tx-Ia friend Joan is coming up for lunch with me downtown and then a short visit here with Ray. She's the one  who lost her beloved Jim in June from the amputation of his foot and his dementia.  Then on Saturday other Tx friends who live in WI are coming to Cedar Rapids for their grandson's baseball tournament game and will make a short visit on Sat. morning.  Ray golfed with Pat often in TX and we met for lunch, etc. often there.  It'll be good to see them.

The weather is more agreeable...cooler in the morning at least, so I can leave the downstairs and stairway windows open to take some of the heat from the oxygen concentrators out without having to run the AC.

Take care and have a good Thursday, Buddies.

Mary...glad you're having a good break in the awful weather.  AND a haircut!  and bridge later. It sounds like a good day!

jane

maryz

jane, sorry this is taking such a toll on you both.  And I know the heat just compounds the situation.  Glad your Texas friends are making brief contacts.

Good morning, Every Buddy.  I'm dressed and have cleaned up the kitchen and am waiting for Eddie to come to take me to the library and Kroger.  I just have a short Kroger list, so we won't be out very long.  I have books I didn't finish from the library, so won't linger there.

Jane, being a slug after a tough night sounds like an excellent idea.  I can remember those days when Bob couldn't sleep and I was up and down with him.  It's hard to deal with as missing sleep is very difficult--and I was still teaching school then.  Thoughts and prayers for both of you from here in Auburn.

Mary, we're having somewhat cooler days here, too.  I've been able to get out for my morning walk most mornings earlier than usual, so not too hot.  However, we're expecting hotter days the rest of the weekend.

Hello to all the Buddies looking in.  I hope you're having a cooler day and able to stay out of the heat!

Sue

jane

Joan and I have had lunch and she came back and visited with Ray and showed him pictures she's had of Jim.  She stayed about an hour and left a bit ago for the 2 hour drive home.  She said it was an easy drive for her and she'll come back in 6 weeks or so.

Today has been a much better day.  It didn't start off that way.  At 5:00 am a loud siren went off and I thought it was the oxygen concentrator going off, so I was out of bed and it turned out it wasn't that, but our alarm system.  ADT called about that time and said the west door of our family room was open. I went down stairs and it had somehow blown open. I hadn't locked it last night, obviously.  My adrenaline was sky high and it took me a long time to settle down.

Tomorrow other TX friends are coming by for a short visit. I hope that's the end of visitors then for a few days.

Good morning Jane and Every Buddy looking in.  I've been up for a while, read the paper, had breakfast and cleaned up the kitchen.  I've now dressed in my usual walking duds and will go outside soon to get my outside walking done before it's much hotter.

Jane, I'm glad you and Ray had a better day yesterday.  I'm sorry about the loud siren and the upsetting noise so early in the morning.  I hope your Texas friends don't stay over long as I know that must be hard for you and Ray.

I'm dressed now and will get outside shortly for my morning walk.  My plans for the rest of the day are to stay inside and read!

Have a nice day, Every Buddy!

And the roller coaster continues...bad night...Ray  was like a drunk wet noodle ...no strength, loopy, etc., so I called oncologist...got one we know who was on call...Dr. Wilbur. She called me back within 15 minutes, told me to take him to the ER .  I called Gary who came up and helped me get him downstairs and into the car. Dr. W had called the ER so they whisked us right in...and they're pumping him with IV fluids and will keep him overnight and hopefully for a day or two.  They did a head scan in case of stroke or cancer, but negative , so that's a relief.

Sharon...are you OK?  Your message on FB sounded as if you were in ER, too.

Hope everyone else is having a better day.

Jane

maryz

jane, so sorry for the ER visit - but all for the best, it sounds like.  I hope both of you get some rest and improvement.

I saw that from Sharon, too.  I didn't know if she meant for the original injury, or if she had just been back.

Definitely sending good thoughts to all of you.

Ray says he feels better than yesterday, but Nurse is talking to me about Bipap and then possibly ventilator.  Those of you who've gone through this with husband's illnesses, know how low I'm feeling right now.  I know it's coming, I do, but I hate the thought of losing him.  She talked about getting Home Health Care back which I'll have to do.  I can't do all of this alone, I guess, esp. if he's not able to get out of bed.  His oxygen needs go up and down, depending on his activity level, of course.  I do hope they keep him for a few days.

I came home when he fell asleep and I need to get some laundry done, the bed changed, etc. and maybe some sleep for me.

Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

jane

maryz

jane, so sorry for what you both are going through. John refused to be put on a ventilator.  Tough decisions all around.  I'm holding you in my heart.

Good morning, Every Buddy.  Mary, thanks for the update from FB that Ray is coming home with Hospice Care.  Jane, if you're looking in, I'm praying for you and Ray--and I hope he'll be able to rest and enjoy being home.  Staying in the hospital isn't fun for anyone!  Keep us posted.

Mary, I'm also thinking of Jane, Ray, and Sharon.  It's tough to hear the sad news and I hope all will be better soon.

Darlene, I don't walk a mile daily, but do get out for a walk every day and by the time I get home, I'm glad I went although it's not easy!  Good for you for making a mile!

Good morning to Marilyn and other Buddies looking in.  Have a nice day, Every Buddy---and stay cool!

I'm trying to reach Callie--from Oklahoma. Last week I met her friend who has recently moved here.  I need a sub for my Thursday bridge group which is meeting here on Thursday.  Callie's friend is now living at Azalea Place--where I met her and played bridge with her (one round).  It would be nice to be able to call her at Azalea Place, but I don't know her last name or her phone number.  If you have met her and know her phone number, could you please let me know?  Thanks, Sue.

CallieOK

I'm dropping in because Sue put her Bosom Buddies post in the Soda Shoppe where I suspect she meant to put this one.
Just letting you know I received a private message from Sue and have replied.

Looks like a Great Group here but I'm not "eligible" for this topic.
Maybe we'll meet in another forum.
 :)

maryz

Love having you visit, Callie, but hope you never have to join us "for real".  ;)

I hope the doctors find out soon why Sharon cannot walk.

Thanks, Darlene and Mary, and Sue.  I know you three have, unfortunately, walked this journey.  Ray also has DNR order.  He's said over and over "this is no way to live."

Marilyn...yes, he's coming home with hospice care.  The equipment will be delivered tomorrow morning, and I suspect he'll be transported home shortly thereafter.

He's so very tired from all the work his lungs are trying to do.

Our dear niece is on her way and will be here in a few hours.  One of our new ac units is acting up, so I left a key with them to get in and fix it.

Wonderful friends came last night and got things moved out of the dining room so they can bring the extra long bed in, etc. and cleared path for bed and Ray to be brought in.

I came home to "rest" but had a number of things on my mind I needed to see about....appointments this week to cancel, getting to drug store, bank, and insurance office, etc.

maryz

Hang in there, jane.  Glad you're getting the support from your family, too.

He had an "acute" incident while I was gone. He'd been sleeping and the respiratory people came in with the nebulizer and his pulse and oxygen both dropped to 30! They called me at home and said I'd better get up here. Thank heavens, we're just a mile away.  Patricia and I have been here since and he's just slept.  I'm staying the night with him.  She said Don and the boys are coming down tonight.  They finally got electricity back about 3:00 pm after 10 days without!

Thanks for letting me share/vent here.

maryz

Love and hugs, jane!

Jane, I'm so sorry about the new problems Ray is having.  Thoughts and prayers here for better days. Keep us posted when you have a few minutes to spare (and I know you probably don't have many minutes to spare.)  Love and hugs to you and Ray.

Good morning to Mary, Marilyn, and Jane especially.  I hope today is a better one for you and Ray.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Not much else to say here, except I hope Every Buddy is OK today. Take care, Every Buddy.
