Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Welcome to  OnLonelyMountain!! to
Seniors and Friends!

I think you'll like it here.  We are a friendly enough bunch  ;)  If you need any help just give a shout. :2funny:

Looking forward to seeing your posts, and if you'd like to share, we'd be happy to see your photos as well, OnLonelyMountain

OnLonelyMountain

Thank you so_P_bubble :) I've read a lot in the forums and this does seem like a very nice group of people.

I'm disabled and homebound, though my home is in the forest on top of a mountain. I've been looking for an online group of nice people for awhile. I'm looking forward to participating.

RAMMEL

Greetings OnLonelyMountain. Hope you find a discussion or two that you like. Good bunch of people here.

Welcome to the site :)

I'm quite a bit younger than most (if not all) the members of this site (I'll be 43 next month) and mostly lurk in the shadows to ensure everything runs smoothly, but often contribute to the Just Plain Old Music topic. If you have any questions about how things work, I'm the one to ask :)

(If you're wondering how I got involved here, it's a bit of a long story. I was helping out with another forum and someone there asked me to set this up after a seniors forum she was a member of shut down - I know a lot about this forum software as I've been involved with the project in one form or another pretty much since it started a couple decades ago. I won't bore you with the long story about how I got to that point though :P)

Good Morning RAMMEL, thank you. I have jumped into a discussion: Ants. Living in the woods in an RV, I have a lot of experience with ants :buck2: The people here do seem really nice. :)

OnLonelyMountain

Thank you so much Jackie. I'm sorry to hear you are housebound too. Its a hard row to hoe. Its great that you have been a part of this wonderful group here! They certainly are a blessing. It is beautiful here. I've ordered a signal booster, so I don't have to hike or take my mobility device a 1/4 mile up to the top to get enough bars to do more than basic texts. I'll post some pics if I can get enough signal once I get it installed.

OnLonelyMountain

:) thank you and good morning Oldiesmann. I've seen a few of your posts. You always have something valuable to add. I'm glad to meet you. "43 next month" huh? I'm still clinging to my 64 for 2 more months, putting that next one off until the last moment. ;D If I have any questions I'll give you a "holler."

RAMMEL

Speaking of ANTS - Our local (just North of NYC)   Nextdoor group has been discussing the Spring invasion of ants.  FWIW, some have suggested "TERRO", available at Amazon.  That seemed to be the one most people had good results with - including home remedy's.

I'd love to see your photos. I am always curious and interested to see different locations.

Thank you RAMMEL, I looked it up. Its "active ingredient" is borax, but its not very much of the whole product. They list 94.6% as "other ingredients." I'm disabled due to pesticide poisoning. The first, major event was an organophosphate insecticide called Monitor, in 1996. By 2004 they sent me home to die, giving me 2 months to 2 years to live; It gets worse with every exposure. The Dr. told me no one survives past 2 years. I'm stubborn. In order to survive I became an expert on toxic substances and how manufacturers hide them in products. Against that background when I say its the "other ingredients" you have to watch out for as much as the "active ingredient." Please understand that I've done years of intense research into this, or I wouldn't be alive, and don't say it lightly. If the active ingredient, borax, was the only insect killing substance then mixing a little 20 Mule Team borax in jelly would be as effective. If this product is killing better than that home remedy, there must be another toxic substance hidden under "other ingredients." Which is legal for them to not tell you what those are. The EPA has a huge list of chemicals that are allowed to be aggregated under "other ingredients, and most are toxic. Many are extremely toxic. The label does warn that this product should not be used in food preparation areas, near, or where it can be encountered by children or pets. Red flags for me. Knowledge is power :)

Wow welcome On lonely Mountain - I'm another home-bound no longer able to drive - brings its own adventures doesn't it... what Mountain are you living your lonely life on?

I've enjoyed your posts and your input on the ant population - somewhere I remember reading ants are responsible for all of nature that they learned was the way of things after some huge forest fire years back... Evidently the ants were the first ones in and they brought the seeds with them that started reforestation.

Do you have anything special to pass your days like reading, or sewing or knitting or gardening...? I know gardening is difficult and I'm trying to replace anything that needs care with a small tree or bush that pretty much take care of themselves however I've front porch that I've hangers for hanging pots - had 8 but lost them last year with too much heat and down to only 2 and a bird feeder - however, still love to read and do a good amount of reading - seldom post here in the reading forum - still attached to the sister site for reading Senior Learn - only a handful of us left over there - this is the site where all the action is - you have found the 'right' group  - see you around the forums

OnLonelyMountain

Hi Barb, thank you! Yes it certainly does bring its own set of adventures! I'm living on a mountain top in the Blue Mountains of eastern Oregon that is not officially named. My grandson named it "Grandma Mountain" years ago.

At the moment I'm focusing on keeping warm and dry. Its 40°F, w/ a frigid arctic wind and drizzling. I like to read as well. I also spin, knit, crochet and sew. On more temperate days I cut up blown down trees for firewood with my e-chainsaw and mend fences. I have an eUTV as a mobility device that makes those chores doable. I hope to start a container garden. I think I might be able to handle that. I forage for medicinal plants and edibles. I like to keep busy and keep learning new things. :)
