Back to the fun, I found this last night. An interesting parody of Marty Robbins' famous "El Paso", this one taking place at a pizza parlor in the "west LA town of Azusa". "Dudley" was the pseudonym of singer-songwriter H.B. Barnum, who cowrote these lyrics.

A great rendition of this song. Lee Greenwood had a number of country hits in the 80s, but today he's best known for the 1984 song "God Bless the U.S.A.", which became particularly popular following the September 11th attacks in 2001.

A nice country version of a Neil Diamond classic.

Michael - I saw your message in General Discussion, about your Archiepedia  website and I took look at it.  Very well done, and fun to look at!      Lots of different items that are available for sale, or just to look at.  I was hoping to see some old Archie drinking glasses for sale.  (Welches Grape Jelly).  I had dozens of them, but they get everyday use here, so there have been lots of casualties over the years.  They're usually available on eBay or Etsy, so I'm sure I can find them there. 
May I suggest that you also post the link to your website here, in Leisure Activities/Music, or on Site Announcements.  I think there are other members who would like to see it.

I may add articles about merchandise at some point as well. That would certainly be a fun rabbit hole to go down

Back on topic, and on a related note, here's a song that was a huge hit for a group based on the comics. The Archies were a fictitious band in the comics, and a studio group was created to record songs as The Archies. This was the group's first single and was a huge hit in 1969. This is one of two hits around the same time that featured vocalist Ron Dante - the other being "Tracy" by The Cuff Links.

On the topic of Disney songs, here's Allan Sherman's parody of "Chim Chim Cheree", which was from Mary Poppins. Unfortunately nearly all of the product references in this song are long forgotten, but it's still quite fun.

Not quite 100. His birthday is in December. Hopefully they'll make a big deal out of it like they did for Betty White.

Back to some fun, here's one of my favorite Mancini pieces. This was written for the film The Great Race and is used as background music during the famous pie fight scene. This piece has to be absolute murder on the clarinets though with all the runs and the fast tempo.

A fun instrumental from 1961. The pianist on this is Jimmy Wisner, who composed the piece. I'm assuming the rest of the band is a studio orchestra.

Lots of senior  musical birthdays in the past couple of weeks, as well as a couple of popular movie stars, and  a football hero.
Today, June 1, Pat Boone turned 91.  His many hit songs were popular in the 1960's and 70's, and he went on through the years volunteering at children's hospitals and raising money for many worthwhile causes.  Clint Eastwood turned 95 yesterday and  Morgan Freeman's 88th birthday was today. Football Hall of Famer,  Joe Namath, was  82 yesterday.  Last week Stevie Nicks, celebrated her 77th birthday. 
Here's Pat Boone, singing one of his biggest hits,  Love Letters in the Sand.

A funny one from husband and wife duo Jack Blanchard and Misty Morgan. These two had a couple of big hits in the 70s with the novelty songs "Tennessee Bird Walk" and "Humphrey the Camel". Although they are primarily remembered for those two songs, they recorded a lot of great serious songs as well. This one was the flip side of the 1975 single "This House (Used to be a Home)" but didn't appear on an album until 2001.

Related to my previous post, here's a great serious song from Jack and Misty. This is from their second album, which contained one side of serious ballads and one side of comedy songs. This hit #15 on the country chart in the US and was their third highest charting song (behind the two comedy tracks I mentioned in my last post). These two had several other top 40 country hits, but I don't think they were ever as big as they should have been.

A fun upbeat cheerful song from Roger Miller. This has been stuck in my head recently as Off! brand bug repellent spray is using it in their latest TV commercial. This was released in 1967

RIP Sly Stone. He died today at the age of 82. Here he is (in the orange glasses) with his group The Family Stone performing the group's hit "Everyday People" in 1969.

The original, Yellow Polka-Dot Bikini,  was very popular here in the 60's.  I recall that my daughter requested the 45 record for her birthday - but can't remember which birthday?  Of course I bought it for her, and I'm sure it's still around here, in one of those little 45 RPM cases, along with other gems from that era.

I saw the story in the paper this morning about the passing of Sly Stone.  Probably some of his records here too, stored away in a 45 case.   

Another song that was a huge hit for Brian Hyland, two years after the bikini song.

The theme from the classic 1987 space comedy Spaceballs. Today, director Mel Brooks, who will celebrate his 99th birthday in just over two weeks, announced that the long-awaited sequel to this film will be hitting theaters in 2027.

Such a shame there are no more singers today like Perry Como, yes i remember him...Magic Moments and Catch a Falling Star and put it in your pocket, never let it fade away.....

Very, very much agree, Jackie. I remember when Elvis hit the scene, a group of us girls in the fourth grade had a debate over who was the better. I was all in for Perry. I never cared much for Elvis.
