Sasha - We're subscribed to "the full catastrophe", as far as viewing choices are concerned. You name it, and we most likely have it.  ::)  Our cable bill is HUGE, but I don't care, as we don't spend money on anything else anymore. Of course we pay separately for Netflix, and Amazon Prime. We are home 24/7/365, and we really enjoy having a large selection of shows to choose from.

We have the full cable, which includes the Premium Channels - HBO, Showtime, Starz, and Turner Classic Movies.  For streaming we have Amazon, Netflix, and a streaming sports channel, where AJ can get hockey and can pick and choose other sports.  We also have the Roku stick?  Not sure what else we get from that?  :-\   True, that we only watch a small amount of shows from all of those choices, but we do tap into each and every "channel" a couple of times a week.

We very rarely watch anything on the old Network free programming, except for the News, HGTV,  or a special on The History Channel.   I know . . .  it's over-choice, but we're happy with it.

I hope others chime in, with what they have?

good afternoon, after going through the whole month of Feb to get here I forgot who I was going to write too.

Jeanne and Fla.Jean my cablevision went up another $10. again. I have no choice as that is all we have on eastern Long Island. I am getting new programs that I do not want. I can reduce my bill if I give up the golf channel.Between my rent, light bill budgett 288. and cable$237. I payout
$1000. the first of the month The eagle on my SS is screaming. Of course  cable  ismy entertainment

Oh my!  I started this it was 2PM now after 7, I just had so many people just drop in to day, to check on me. better send

Quote from: Sasha on March 01, 2019, 03:43:31 PMMarilynE, sorry. I phrased my question badly. I need to learn what you all subscribe to, you who use internet streaming. I'm trying to decide if Amazon Prime would be worthwhile.
We order lots of stuff at Amazon so found it economical to go "Prime". With it comes shipping breaks, Music, Movies, and I'd bet other things I haven't looked into (yet). Since we got a "Smart TV" we can also get the Amazon movies on that (in addit to puter streaming)

Callie - I watched the movie, Crazy Rich Asians the other night.  It was an entertaining comedy, with gorgeous scenery, lavish surroundings, beautiful clothes and beautiful people!   Worth watching, but not nearly as good as the book. That's true of most movies adapted from books, but I can understand that they have to pare it down, to fit into a two hour time slot.  We paid to rent it, but I'm sure it will be on the free movies, very soon.  AJ enjoyed it okay, but I think it's really a movie that appeals more to women.

CallieOK

Marilyne,  thanks for the information.  Have you read all three books in the series?  I wondered if the movie combines the stories.

Marilyne

Callie, the movie is based on the original book, which is the only one that I've read, so far.  My daughter has read the second and third, and liked them.  I said it my post above that the movie was, "an entertaining comedy".  Actually, there was a lot of drama, as well as some comedy . . . so I guess the term for a movie like that, is now referred to as a, dramedy! :D

I watched Victoria last night, I can not believe the series is over for now. They do not say when it will return, they will have to start a set of new series. This was a 3 part series.  I did not realize Albert was only 42 when he died. She never got over his death. for 40 years she had his cloths laid out every day.

Gloria de - I didn't watch Victoria, at all, but now I wish I had. I am fond of all things "Royal", so I don't know why I didn't follow this series on PBS?  I think you would love The Crown, but you have to have Amazon Prime (or is it Netflix?)  to get it. The first season is about Queen Elizabeth, when she was a young women, and married Prince Philip.  Also when her father, the King, died, and she was crowned Queen.  I think the series is now available on other channels, but don't know which ones?

I also remember family nights, and family vacations, when I was a child, and also when we were raising our three children.  It didn't take much to keep us entertained back then.  Now there is so much in the way of planned children's activities, homework and sports, that there is no time for family. It's a shame, but things have changed dramatically in the past 40 years.

I've watched both "Victoria" and "The Crown".  I enjoyed both.  It would be interesting to know what Queen Elizabeth and the royal family think of this version of The Crown.  Or do you imagine they have ever seen it? Probably not!

Also,I've been watching an older series on Amazon Prime..."Rome".  It has a great cast of well known British actors but it is really violent and sexually explicit.  Very!

And, season 5 of "Bosch" will be coming to Amazon Prime in mid-April.  I'm looking forward to that.

I believe that most of the shows that appear on TV covering the Royals are shown to the queen Prior to appearing on TV . she has approved of all of them so far. They have been very well done.

Today is Shrove Tuesday in the UK. Loved that day. My grandmother was making pancakes all day long. Think she provided for the whole neighborhood. She really stuck to fasting.

Phyllis, Harry Bosch is one of my favorite detectives.  I've read all that are on my library's list--and now that he's retired he's doing research on unsolved older crimes.  His daughter is almost finished with college and they have a good relationship now (her mother who kept the secret of the daughter until she was terminally ill (the mother)--and Harry took her in.  They have a great relationship now and she is almost finished with college).

I don't have Amazon Prime, but would love to see who is playing Bosch these days.  Although I'm afraid my idea of what he looks like is probably way off base.

I have Roku  and I subscribe to
Showtime,  Netflix,  Hulu,  Acorn ....
These are ones that I have to pay a little more
a month for....

Netflix and Hulu are tops IMHO..

I like Acorn for films and series from
the UK, Canada,  and Australia(my favorite on Acorn)

I pay  for all of these monthly,  but I can
stop when ever I want   and restart again in
the future if I choose without penalties.

I am very happy with streaming tv.

Does anyone here use, or know about, earphones for TV listening?  We have someone here that has a hearing problem and is always turning the sound up beyond comfortable for others so I'm looking for comments or info on those TV ear phones that are available. Feel free to email me or post here.

Rammel,   for Christmas, my son ordered a pair of T.V. Ears  from an ad in the AARP magazine.  They're comfortable and I really like them.  There's a recharger to set them in when not in use.  I don't watch daytime t.v. but they've never run out of juice during a full evening of watching.

Here's a link.  T V Ears

My charger has space for two headphones but I only have one.

Rammel and Callie, my audiologist recommended TV ears a few years ago.  I have 3 TV's and I have 3 sets.. Of course I bought them on their sales.  I can listen at my own volume They are light weight. you can walk around the room with them on.

After I did that Google search,  ads for T.V. ears began showing up on my server's home page.  Can we say "tracking"?   Grrrrrrrrr

Thank you both for your input.  I'll be checking them out.

Callie, thanks for posting about the TV ears.  I told my husband about them.  He read all the info and decided to order them.  I don't have a hearing problem but he does and often he just reads the closed captions so he doesn't bother me with the sound.  Hopefully this will be much better for him (and me😊).

   FlaJean,
Which model did you get, and when they've been tried give us a comment on them.

Rammel, my husband got the 5.0 Dual Digital System.  He is supposed to get them the 19th.  Will let you know if he likes them.

Lindancer

FlaJean, the last set I got was the newer ones, but I am satisfied with the with the cheapest.  I have bought the two together, as I have a friend tat uses them when she comes over, First ones I bought were in Radio Shack, that is where the audiologist sent me

My TV ears are  also Version 5.0.
Mine has a "Dual Digital" Transmitter Kit and one "T V Ears 5.0 Wireless Headset".  The transmitter has room for two headsets.
The headset box says "Up to 6 hours of continuous use on a full charge".  That is accurate.  Headset is easy to click on and off and is designed to go under the chin - very easy to put around my neck if I need to answer the phone or go away from the t.v. for a bit.
It does not transmit well from another room.

My son ordered it On Sale from an ad in the AARP magazine.

Marilyne

Last night we watched  The Big Sleep, on TCM, starring Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, and lots of other well known actors from that era.  I thought I had seen all of Bogart's movies, but somehow I missed this one along the way. It was a fast moving story, and quite good. This was one of Raymond Chandler's many Phillip Marlowe detective stories, that have been made into movies over the years.  Actors who have played Marlowe in the past, besides Bogart, were Dick Powell, Robert Montgomery, Robert Mitchum, and on TV by James Garner.

Lindancer

FlaJean, how does your husband like the TV ears?

I watched Hawaii   the other night, I never realized that Julie Andrews was in it.

GloriaDe, he ordered the TV Ears but they won't come until the 19th.  I'll let you all know when he gets them.

We watched the Academy Award winning movie, Green Book, and we both liked it very much. I can understand why it won the Oscar. It was deserving - more so than most winners in recent years.  The two lead characters were wonderful.  Mahershala Ali, won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, and Viggo Mortensen, was nominated for Best Actor, but he didn't get the Oscar.

Jean - I hope you can get this movie on one of your channels?  I know you like films about real people, and this is one that I think you'll especially enjoy.

FlaJean

Rammel, Larry got the TV Ears and he really likes them.  I can keep the sound at a reasonable level and he can hear good with the TV Ears.  I listened to see what they were like and the sound is clear.  Thanks Callie and GloriaDe for your input.

Thanks Jean.  If you can get a comment from Larry about the comfort on the ears, after a couple of hours of use, it would be appreciated. In our case here my wife turns up the volume so high that my son and I (at the least) complain. Son often just leaves the area. But my wife keeps recalling the ear pieces of yesteryear with the plastic inserts, that soon hurt in the ear..  I try to explain the newer more comfortable and lighter devices but -  :(
