I didn't mean he should get off scott-free or without consequences, just that it wasn't malicious or with premeditation.  Definitely there should be consequences and he should pay reparations.

I didn't realize that Ryan Lochte is 32 years old! He has never had a real job, but has spent his entire life traveling and competing in swimming meets all over the world, as have all of the elite swimmers.  So now, if he loses his endorsements and sponsors, (and he probably will), he will eventually have to get a job!

"The Ugly American Tourists" Why is it that reputation seems to follow all over the world. Its sad because it is just a few. It doesn't see to be as bad as it use to be. Most other tourists now have the same money if not more and so Tossing dollars around doesn't work. That young man was like they use to be back when. Just showing off. To bad. going to cost him which it should.

Today is the last day of the Summer Olympics, so I plan to catch up on a few things that I recorded (Rhythmic Gymnastics), and then we will probably watch the closing ceremonies tonight.  I'm not fond of opening or closing ceremonies, but I usually do watch. It will be four years before the summer games roll around again, so might as well take in the entire show! :)

Then it's back to the usual TV shows and movies once again.  I'm way behind on lots of my favorites, so will have some catching up to do On Demand.

Oh - I almost forgot to mention!!  Tomorrow night, Aug. 22, be sure to watch or record a brand new movie on the Hallmark Channel, Wild Oats, starring Shirley Maclaine, Jessica Lange, and Demi Moore, plus some older actors that we remember from the past - Judd Hirsch, and Howard Hesseman.  It's supposed to be a good comedy.

Lindancer

Marilyne, He was old enough to know better, not a teen.

I will try to remember to watch  Wild Oats, I lkie all the Hallmark shows.

I will watch the Olympics to night.  I watched a little this morning.

Marilyne, I don't find "Wild Oats" listed on the Hallmark Channel or the Hallmark Movie Channel on my Comcast/Xfinity.  Is there another Hallmark Channel?

Marilyne

maryz and Gloria de - It looks like Shirley MacLaine herself, got the channels wrong! LOL! it's playing tomorrow night on the Lifetime Channel.  The only reason I happened to know about Wild Oats, is because Shirley M., is my Facebook friend, and she posted a message this morning about the upcoming movie, and said it was to be on Hallmark.  Well, even the star herself can be wrong! :D  ::)  I looked on IMDb, and saw that it is definitely on Lifetime.  It is playing here at 10:00 PM, PST.  It will likely be on earlier in other time zones?

maryz

Thanks, Marilyne! However, looking on Hallmark did get me to a couple of Jesse Stone programs tonight.  Thanks.

I like the Jesse Stone movies with Tom Selleck.  I read somewhere that he is going to make several more.

CallieOK

Marilyn,  thanks for the "heads up" about the Shirley MacLaine movie. Sounds like a good one.

Lindancer

I did watch the closeing ceremonies last night, like them better then the opeing.  I must say these were very colorful.

Gloria de - The movie Wild Oats is playing tonight on the Lifetime channel, NOT the Hallmark Channel! It was a mistake in posting on Facebook by Shirley Maclaine. She corrected it this morning.   It is playing here on the West Coast, at 10:00 tonight, but we're having company, so I won't be able to watch it.  However, I already have my DVR set to record!  :)

Sandy

I just set my DVR to record it, too..
It is on late here and I didn't get
much sleep last night,  so the DVR should do
the job.

Thanks,
Sandy

Keep an eye open for series 5 of " Great Canal Journeys, " with Timothy West and Prunella Scales....series 5 has just started on our tvs.....First episode last week was Venice, think next episode is the Netherlands....It is a real pleasure seeing this married couple travelling together, where their love for each other just shines through....The people they meet along the way, often taking in a theatre, where they can show off their past acting skills.........

Lindancer

Jackie to night I am going to start watching Better Late then Never. Quote: Four pop culture Titans tour Asia. Hilarity ensues. Henry Winkler, William Shatner, George Foreman and Terry Bradshaw. Tour on a bus.  Think I will give it a try.  Need to watch something light.  Sounds like a differtn combination.

FlaJean

Both of those sound good.

I have not seen "The great Canal Journeys" Showing over here. I will like it when it comes. Always loved watching the Barges on the Canals up in North UK.
After it being covered over for past 80 years in my Home town of Rochdale lancs. This year after years of work our Canal is now open again. Cant wait to get back and see it. Be able now to use barges again going for miles

did you read this on Timothy West and Prunella Scales.

Fawlty Towers actress Prunella Scales is suffering from a “sort of Alzheimer’s”, her husband Timothy West discloses  He has quite a article about it on the Internet right now.  Been married for 50 years.

Oh! good. I found I can bring up all the "Great Canal Journeys" with them here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zRI7xwN_mU

Jeanne P......
.......as you follow through with the episodes, her memory loss is mentioned by her hubby on a few occasions as mild but....as she quite often states, her memory still allows her to remember how to make hubby a cup of tea, ( you see him show a faint and pleasing smile, ) work the locks, and she still has a great memory of reciting her old lines, sometimes in unison with Timothy.....

....as a youngster, also as a young teen mother, I would often take a trip to Cassiobury Park in Watford ( Hertfordshire ) and walk to the bridge and watch the canal barges go through...something my mom also used to do with me....

Marilyne

Jackie and Jeanne - Great Canal Journeys sounds like a show that both my husband and I will like.  I'll be watching for it to be shown on my PBS. (Or is is now playing on BBC?)  I remember when Fawlty Towers, was on TV, but I didn't watch it on a regular basis, so I'm not familiar with Prunella Scales and Timothy West.  I'd like to see them, as I can relate to any couple who has been married for over 50 years!

I started to watch "Better Late Than Never" on Monday night, thinking it was fiction.  But I turned it off almost immediately when it turned out to be one of those stupid so-called "reality" things, done just for the set-up situations.  Not for me.  A waste of good talent, IMO.

"Better late then Never" ...

I was very disappointed.   The four actors are
incredibly talented bunch of old guys.     IMHO,
this show was a waste...

Too much running around and noise.    It turned me
right off.    I did not know that it was suppose to
be a "reality" show.    I thought that it was
just terrible writing,  for four tremendously talented
men.      What a waste of  talent.

I couldn't relax and watch it,  so I shut it off and stopped
recording it.

I was suspicious when I saw who would be on "Better Late Than Never".   I lasted about 5 minutes!

JeanneP

Really Enjoyed watching some of the "Canal Journeys" Specially Number 2 as they did the "Rochdale Canal one.  Went through my Home town showing all the surounding Villages.  Got really homesick.
I don't know how she handles those locks. They are hard. He must not be able to do that heavy work.

Forgot to say.  I just finished a good book. I like books that go through many generations of Women. I know that a few others on here like them also.

Never heard of these Authors before. Its fiction but 3 women wrote it. it is called. The Forgotten Room" Goes from 1892 to 1945.  I really enjoyed it.

I guess I'm the only one who has watched Wild Oats?  I recorded it Monday night, and just got around to watching it this afternoon. The story itself was pretty much like that of all movies in recent years that feature older (elderly?), women and men.

Usually it's Shirley Maclaine, who plays the kookie, sexy old lady, but this time it was Jessica Lange, who takes on that role. (She overacted like crazy, IMO.) Shirley herself, played it pretty straight, as a recent widow, who collects her late husband's insurance. Problem being that the insurance company accidently sends her a check for $5 Million, instead of $50 Thousand.

Shirley and best friend, Jessica L, then head for a vacation in the Canary Islands.  All sorts of fun and games happen, involving a whole bunch of character actors. (all oldsters.)
Demi Moore, plays Shirley's daughter, which is a small role, with very little dialogue.

There were a few funny moments, mainly the ongoing gag of Shirley's former high school students, recognizing her as their 10th grade teacher.  Overall a somewhat entertaining movie, but very forgettable. You have to hand it to Shirley Maclaine though - she is 82 years old, and continues to get plenty of work in movies, and does a good job with every character she plays.

I have to say, I was disappointed in Better Late then Never, I understood it would be like a travel show touringAsia.  got a good review, so that is why I watched.  I did stay with it about half hour and turn it off, Went back to HallMark

Marilyne, I finally watched "Wild Oats".  Definitely predictable, but fun.  I loved all the wrinkles and age spots on Shirley MacLaine and Jessica Lange.  And, since there was no cast listed at the beginning, I loved finding John Clees in it.  Even more fun was trying to identify the main playing the insurance detective - and finally realizing it was Howard Hesseman - my favorite Dr. Johnny Fever from WKRP in Cincinnati.  Glad I watched it and thanks to you for recommending it.

maryz - Glad you also enjoyed Wild Oats.  It's certainly not going to win any Academy Awards, but it was entertaining, and fun to see some of the older actors.  Like you, I didn't recognize Howard Hesseman, at first either!  It took me half way into the movie to realize that the insurance investigator was him!  Another older actor who was on the IMDb cast list, was Judd Hirsch? (Remember him in Taxi?)  His part must have been cut, because I didn't see him at all, or maybe just didn't recognize him?
