Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Chia,  I also thought Lange and Sarandon did excellent jobs with their roles as Crawford and Davis.  Is this an on-going series or a mini-series?

Jeanne, the lady who did Ellen's ear-piercing was a physician's assistant and called it "minor surgery".    Her mom and I picked up on signs she was nervous - but she seemed to have fun.

JeanneP

Now I thought she was at ease. Having fun being on TV.  Where did she get her Red hair from. She is cute. Bubbly.  is she taking care of her ears.  Both my girls did not get them done the right way.  went to the mall.

Jeanne, only those who know her well would have picked up on the nervousness. which was probably more in anticipation of being stuck with a needle.   I'm sure she was very happy with the numbing cream!  Much better than the ice cube of yore.
She has a degree in musical theater so is comfortable on stage and in front of an audience - although she is more comfortable dancing and/or playing a role and would prefer not to be in the spotlight all by herself.
Her red hair comes from her two grandfathers' Irish ancestry.  Her sister is the only brunette in their immediate family; her other grandmother and I say she inherited our genes.  :)

I asked her recently how her ears were doing and she said, "Great".   I'm sure she's doing whatever she was told about taking care of them.

Marilyne

Callie - I recorded the RR show yesterday, and have been looking forward to seeing Ellen's NYC television debut! It came on here at 3:00 pm.  We had company all afternoon and for dinner, so this is the first chance I've had to see it. I'm going to pour myself a fresh cup of coffee, and take a look right now.  Back later! :)

CallieOK

Marilyne,  she is the last segment on the show - if you prefer to FF through all the other stuff.   ;)

Tomereader1

Rachel did a beautiful and delicious looking butternut squash & Penne dish w/prosciutto, that you could almost smell thru the TV!
I did see the pierced ear segment...hope she enjoys her
ear-bling!

Marilyne

Callie - Ellen is adorable, and seemed very relaxed for her NYC Television debut!  I didn't notice that she even winced or gritted her teeth during the piercing.  Everything was so professional and sanitary . . . a far cry from the days of yore!

It was the first time I'd ever seen the Rachael Ray show, and I did watch the whole thing. (FF through the commercials).  I'm not much of a cook, so I never watch the cooking shows on TV, but this one had lots of other fun things to watch.  The Butternut Penne pasta dish looked delicious, but I doubt I will be making it any time soon! ::)

I hope this will be a start for Ellen, and that she will soon be in the chorus line of a Broadway show.  (Maybe "Hamilton"?)

Marilyne,  thank you for the kind words.  Ellen is classified as a "Dancer Who Can Sing".  Between her college graduation (May, 2015) and her move to NYC (September 2016) she was a "featured dancer" (she said this meant she had at least 2 lines of dialog  :) ) in 7 productions in OKC and Tulsa community theaters. She also played Bebe in "Chorus Line".
Now, she would be happy to be in the Ensemble of ANY production - in NYC or elsewhere - but she wants to be paid.

The butternut squash penne pasta dish did look delicious!  Here's a link to the recipe on the Rachael Ray web site.   http://www.rachaelrayshow.com/recipes/24438_penne_with_brown_butter_and_squash_sauce_and_crispy_prosciutto/

Tonight I watched Feud:Bette and Joan.  I thought it was very good, thanks to Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange . . . both great actresses.
I thought that Susan S looked a lot like Bette Davis, in some of the shots. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the series.  I wonder how many episodes there will be?

Hi Marilyne..

I knew there was to be another program of Feud starring Susan Serandon and Jessica Lange Sunday night but there were so many commercials that I decided that I was not going to watch it any more...I know that commercials pay the bills but not presenting the series as PBS would have done by getting rid of commercials at the beginning of the program with no other interruptions, really ruined the program for me and really don't think that I will continue to watch it in spite of the great performances given by Lange and Sarandon...
But I have the advantage of knowing how everything finally turned out..

maryz

Chia, I feel like you do about the commercials.  That's why I record many shows like that - then I can fast-forward through all the commercials.   ;)
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

Marilyne

Chia - I also hate to sit through commercials, so I either record ahead on my DVR, as maryz said, or I watch later On Demand.  Sometimes OD will not allow you to scroll through commercials, however, you can with this particular show! ("Feud")  I forgot to record it last week, so had to watch episode #1 On Demand.  Much to my relief, I could scroll through the commercials!   I did remember to record it last night, so will probably watch it later in the week.

Tomereader1

Darn, I forgot it both nights.  I even forgot what channel it is on??  My TV weekly guide didn't "feature" it this week, so I didn't even think about it.

CallieOK

I forgot to record "Feud" last night but have discovered the FX  (not Fox) network is rebroadcasting the episode at 1:00 a.m. tonight/tomorrow?  CDT.   Recorder set for that one.

Tome - you might check to see if it's the same in your area (allowing for time difference).

JeanneP

Even PBS is bad now.pledging has Now been  going  on now all the time.cutting into shows.

All the reg. Shows on the other channels are running twice as many

Our first series ( no mention yet of any future series but definitely can make way for more ) of The Good Karma Hospital, and have to say, the episodes were fantastically brilliant from the first to the last, which sadly had just shown its final episode over the weekend ...I do hope it reaches your end at a later date, if so, I can thoroughly recommend a tv programme not to be missed...I truly cant say any negatives about it...

Marilyne

Hi Jackie - Your mention again of  "The Good Karma Hospital", has my curiosity up! I checked Google, plus IMDb, but couldn't see when, or if, it's scheduled to play here in the US.  Most sites give it good reviews, so I will be looking forward to watching it.  I see that it's playing on a channel called ITV, which we don't get.  The only channel we get from the UK is BBC.  Some British shows, like "Downton Abbey", "As Time Goes By", et al,  are shown here on our PBS Channels.

Vanilla-Jackie

MARILYNE...
...I too done a check to see if it was going to be shown on American tv, and cant seem to find anything saying yes.....I also done another check and have now found out we will be seeing an episode 2, not sure when it will get aired...

Also done a check on Amazon.uk, ( nothing showing on Amazon.com ) and found the DVD available but sadly only zone-region 2, so maybe not compatible with your zone-region 1.... Although I do have an old Peggy Cappy yoga DVD that was your zone 1, that after a little fiddling on my old, not this computer, I managed to change the two zones over, so I could get to watch the video, and it worked perfect at the time.....

Marilyne

I watched the movie Manchester By The Sea, and thought it was excellent.  Casey Affleck won the Oscar this year for Best Actor, and I agree with the experts, that he deserved the award.  If you don't like dark and depressing movies, then it would be best to pass this one by.  It's heavy drama all the way, with a very sad and compelling story. if anyone has seen it, be sure to comment here - I'm really interested in what any of you think about the movie?

Chia

Just a reminder: a week from tomorrow, March 26, PBS starts a new series about the Bronte Sisters..and is supposed to start at 9 p.m. my time, Eastern Time..
It will be interesting to watch a series about 3 sisters whose works are known all around the world yet little is known about them...
I have every intention of watching..

Can't find anything I like on Netflix that I haven't seen several times so started watching West Wing.  Hadn't seen it since it was originally on TV way back when?  I had forgotten how good it is.  Much, much better than House Of Cards which I gave up on after Series I.

Chia, the series on PBS about the Bronte sisters sounds good.  Looking forward to it.  Glad you mentioned it.

JeanneP

Now I think they did the "Bronte Sisters" a few year ago.  They are still going the pledging on on all 3 of the PbS stations.  So many things being repeated
JeanneP

Marilyne

Chia - thanks for telling us about the PBS program about the Bronte Sisters.  I wonder if it's brand new, or if maybe it's a repeat of the old series??

FlaJean - We haven't watched any of the new shows on Netflix either.  There are many that I would like to see, but our color is still dark and blurry on both Netflix and Amazon.  Our cable company is saying that the reason for the poor color, is that the signal isn't coming in here as it should, because of the mountains??  If  that's true, then why was it perfect for the first three years?? :-\
We did like House of Cards, so I'll be looking forward to seeing it when we finally get a decent picture.

The Premium Channels are perfect, so we still have plenty to watch on HBO and Showtime.  Game of Thrones returns next month! :D

phyllis

This version was made in 2016 according to IMDB.   http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5594080/

I will definitely watch.  My husband and I visited Haworth and the Bronte house on a typical dark and  misty day in Yorkshire.  I was impressed at how dreary the area was and could easily understand how the Bronte's stories always had a dark side to them.  It must have been oppressive to all these talented siblings to have to live in such a (to me) depressing place.

Marilyne

phyllis - Thank you for letting us know that the TV series on the Bronte Sisters, is a brand new one!  I will definitely be watching, one week from tonight, March 26th.  I looked at your IMDb link, and it looks like it will be a good one.

Vanilla-Jackie

It was on our tv screen end of last December, ( To Walk Invisible, The Bronte Sisters,) but I never got to watch it...

SCFSue

My memory is not great anymore, but didn't the Bronte sisters also have a brooding brother who was also an accomplished writer?  Or perhaps one of the characters in the Bronte's writing was about a brooding male brother--imaginative or not?

Phyllis.  Now I love the Haworth area and it is not that far from the area I grew up in UK.  So true  On dark rainy day that part of Yorkshire is dreary.  My family had a small home in Haworth used in the Summer Months and the Bronte Home was just around the corner.  To bad you did not get up into the Lake District in the Summer time. Now it is usually nice when I get back over there and always spend time in the area. I miss the Moors and all the villages up in the area.  Walked all over the area growing up.
JeanneP

phyllis

JeanneP, we did get to the Lake District and I loved it.  Drove through it...took the ferry across Windermere...stopped and toured Beatrix Potter's house (loved that!) and stayed in Keswick.  That whole area is so beautiful and, other than the day in Haworth, the weather was sunny and beautiful.

Phyllis.
My youngest daughter has been going back to UK with me last few time. She loves going up into the Lake District. Has some granddaughters now an so last time we were at the Beatrix Potter house she bought the whole set of children's tea sets a lots of books for them.
I would like to live up in that area in the summer times.
Don't know if I could handle driving a car up in that area now.  roads so narrow. Also getting more crowded all the time.
