Happy 4th of July Buddies...Be well and safe

jane

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Jane

Have a safe and Happy Fourth of July weekend!
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

MaryPage

Maryland is beautiful this morning.  We have had plenty of rain, mostly from nighttime thunder downpours, and we have that dazzling-in-the-sun washed clean, all green look.  There are three visiting tall ships in Annapolis Harbor, an arranged visit over the 4th to enhance the celebration.  Chip was going to drive me down to see them early, early this morning before the crowds began to arrive, but I was just too tuckered out from an all-day visit with two of my daughters yesterday.  We went out to lunch for the first time in over a year and the four of us laughed the whole time.  Great fun, but I always pay for it afterwards.

We had fun discussing the new (Lily James!) REBECCA on Netflix.  Debi and I were adamant that there have been three, and only three, film versions of Daphne du Maurier's fabulous classic, but the marvel of Google tells us there have been 15!  Well, that number includes quite a few foreign versions unavailable to us.

I remember the Laurence Olivier/Joan Fontaine/Judith Anderson one as though it were yesterday.  Judith Anderson was the personification of Mrs. Danvers, and, while Diana Rigg and Kristin Scott-Thomas were terrific in the role, Anderson still owns the laurels.

But this latest one still makes me shiver with anticipation.  Amazing that a third (for me) movie of the same novel has that strong a power to enchant.

Hope everyone has a simply glorious 4th.  I am just full of gratitude not to be coming or going.  Maybe Chip and I will sneak out come dawn tomorrow and roll down to City Dock to see the great sailing ships.  There are to be paid tours all this long weekend, but we've long since been there, done that.  Something there is inside of me, though, that never wearies of seeing those beauties.  Must be in my DNA?  They make little fountains of joy burst up in my soul, even though their sails are tightly tied up while in anchorage.  I might get lucky come Tuesday and see one or more under full sail out there on the mighty Chesapeake as they take off for other ports in other parts.

jane

MaryPage...it sounds as if you're having a glorious 4th weekend.

Things are calm and quiet here...I'm sure all the revelry is down at the river and on the "lake" south of here with the jet skis and speed boats dodging the pontoons.

I do have the sprinklers going again as we've had no rain and none forecast for next 10 days.

Darlene....Yes, I did get up early (for me) and walked before 8:00 am.  It's to get near 90 so I woke up at 5:00 and got out a couple hours later.

I'm going to put a load of clothes in the washer and make a run to the grocery store for a couple items.

Have a safe and wonderful 4th!

Marilyn

Good Morning all y'all. I didn't red all the posts yet by did catch a few line along my way to post.
Hello MaryPage!!! How wonderful  to see you again and Happy 90th Birthday.
Jaywalker you are so right about trying to get unpacked and settled.
Oh my I sure brought way too much stuff with me. Some thrift store is going to love the donations, however, I am going to have to call around to the thrift stores to see who can come and pick up what I have so far.
Yesterday Jeannie, (Sonya's mom), and I went furniture shopping for living room furniture. I bought a Chocolate brown leather sofa that has a recliner at both ends and a rocker recliner as well. Then we went to Walmart to buy  rugs. I bought two 5 X 7 area rugs  one for the living room one for the under the heavy oak dining room table. ( I just couldn't give up that table. The next piece of furniture will  be a new bed for me. Keith said he doesn't want a new  bed.
The dogs are adjusting  well, Freckles still isn't eating much and accepting her CBD oil chews if I put them in her food she wont eat, and she refuses to take them from my hand. She used to love them. So I am switching back to the oil.
Well enough for this time back to unpacking another tub or box. There will be fireworks  close as the Indians will set them off nearby.I was hoping she wouuld eat those CBD chews.
Keith still wants to go home. He wanted to know if he could walk there. He gets so confused.I hope he will adjust,

SharonE

Hello Everyone. Good to see so many posts. Mary Page good to see you back again.  Annapolis must be lovely. I would love to see the tall ships. How nice that you had a lovely luncheon with your daughters.

Jane, we've gotten a little rain, but not nearly as much as some areas of Charlotte. We could use some more. Our lakes are pretty low.

Mary, nothing much happening here this weekend. I heard a couple fireworks last night, but not much. Hope there aren't many tonight. Bunny will get upset.

Marilyn, so glad to see you post. Sounds like you've made some nice furniture purchases. I'm sorry K is confused by the move, but I would think that is to be expected. Better keep an eye on him in case he decides to walk home & be sure he has identification on him at all times.

I got my stitches out yesterday and the NP said it looked really good and the PT is happy with my progress, so that's good.

After a very busy week last week, next week looks to be slow. I've got laundry going, per usual on Sat. Nothing else to report here.

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY TO YOU ALL! :cheer:  :dancingdog:  :jump:

jane

Marilyn...good to see your post!  It must be wonderful to be in a place where the air isn't so toxic for you.  The furniture sounds wonderful after what you had to deal with before.

Sharon...hurrah on the good healing and PT progress.

Happy 4th to EveryBuddie!

Marilyn...how did your move go, as you know i made another move just before your move and one of the best choices i have ever made...I hope your Keith settles into his new home that you found for him, it is bound to feel strange to him until he gets used to it...

maryz

Marilyn, so glad to hear from you. Getting settled in is never easy or fast, but I know it's feeling so good for you. Like the others, I hope that Keith will acclimate soon. Will he wear one of those Alzheimer's ID bracelets? We got one for John's dad, but he wouldn't keep it on.
 Enjoy your new non-smelly furniture!

Lots of booming and banging around here last night - until about 10:30. There will be more tonight, I'm sure. I'm not a fan of fireworks, except for the professional displays. But they are legal here, except for in some municipalities.

"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Heard a few booms and bangs last night, but not bad and not close. Hope we don't have much tonight.

My big news: Great Grandbaby #4 arrived yesterday morning. All are doing well. She was only 5 lbs, but I wasn't surprised as Monica is small. She has a whole head of black hair!  Her name is Cecilia Jae Sun Lee. The middle name is of course the Korean name. They named her after Monica's grandmother. I hope they call her Ceci. Thomas is just over the moon!

Nothing else going on here. Hope you all have a nice day. Sharon

maryz

Sharon, congrats on your new ggbaby!  She sounds lovely. I know you can't wait to get your hands on her!   :hb2:

Ahhh...a new baby!  Is this Melanie's grand?    What fun.

I just got back from my walk.  It's really heating up.

I'm glad they got the rest of that bldg down ..it looked so dangerous standing there.  And I'm glad I don't own any condo there or anywhere in a high rise.

Good Morning, I just got back from a walk with the dogs. We had a nice 4th attending a BBQ at Gilbert's house. He cooked to much food because the grands kids didn't show up

I am going to the hardware store in a little bit to buy two garbage receptacles. Gilbert will do dump runs for me but I need the receptacle so the garbage won't be sitting in the carport in bags.

I also need to contact a thrift store to pick up this first batch of donations. There will be more!

I can't wait for my new furniture to arrive.  Tired of sitting in those plastic lawn chairs.!

MaryPage

Oh, Sharon: how lovely to have that precious addition to your family; Little Cecilia. Hope the two of you will be best friends once she begins to talk and starts figuring things out. Some of my most precious friends now are my great grands. You're not likely to catch up to my number now, though. I have 27, with a little girl due around November 1st. I love Cecilia's name, and the fact that she has a head of hair. Most of mine tend to be almost bald until they are two or so.

Ah, the circle of life.

Jackie, it was so good for me to hear you say your new place is one of the best choices you've ever made.  I'm dancing one of my happy jigs.

Good night & sweet dreams to one & all in this forum of friendship.

jane

Hot and humid here in Iowa...in mid 90s and lots of humidity.  I didn't walk this morning...just couldn't take the heat.  Tomorrow it's supposed to drop 20 degrees, so that will be wonderful.

Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy!

jane

Marilyn

Where is everyone???

maryz

Marilyn, maybe we have the post-fourth doldrums, or something.  I think jane has gone to visit family in Wisconsin.  I guess I'm just lazy.  I am getting ready to head out for the beach. Margaret took me for a mani/pedi this morning. That always makes me feel good.

How are you doing getting settled in? I know it's going to take a while to get Keith acclimated. How are the dogs doing? Are you getting that awful heat out there?
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

Marilyn

Not getting any heat here on the coast, it's been in the 60's, overcast part of the day and damp in  the mornings.

The dogs are doing well except Freckles seems to have started to wet her bed at night. I will take her to the vet on the 22nd. couldn't get her in any sooner.

I am taking my time  getting unpacked, however, some boxes I am not even bothering to unpack just donate. I have a huge pile of boxes to donate and the rescue  mission thrift store is going to pick them up on the 14th.

Keith has only been out of the twice when I took him with me to the Dollar store, he sat in the car and waited, then we went to Gilbert's  on the 4th.It gets so  frustrating  trying to get him to walk bigger steps and a little faster. His baby steps are about one half of his foot length. (if you can picture how small that is)

SharonE

Marilyn, it must be so frustrating trying to keep Keith on an even keel and still maintain your own life. Sending HUGS.

Mary, do you leave Sat for the beach or sooner.  Anyway, have a wonderful time and show off those tootsies that are newly painted!

Jane, John is going to visit his sister in Hubbard, IA the 20th, but we just found out that there was a Covid case in her asst living and it is closed down till the 15th. I pray there aren't any more occurences to cancel his visit. He hasn't seen her for 2 yrs. Are you having outbreaks around you? That Delta variant is scary.

My cleaning girl didn't come today and I have 3 Dr's appts tomorrow and a funeral to attend on Friday. So don't know when she will come. I have PT and then my primary Dr who visits me at home & then a dermatology appt. The funeral is one of the men at church who has been battling liver cancer and passed on Sunday.

My ultra sound brain procedure is definitely set for Aug 23rd, so keep me in your thoughts & prayers.

I ordered another dogfood for Bunny today. It is one of the recommended ones by the vet. We'll see if she likes it. I only ordered a small bag.

My PT guy was ecstatic over my improvement yesterday and then added a bunch of new exercises. Then I went to bridge and by the time I finished that and dinner, I had had it. Today is better.  Bridge was better this week, but nothing to write home about.

All for now.  Sharon

jane

Good to see Marilyn is settling in. I think it's good you can get him out in the car and to visit Gilbert rather than sit alone in a new place.

Mary...enjoy the beach!

Sharon...hurrah for a good report from your PT.  They are not easy people to please, as you know.  ::) I know the Delta variant is here in Iowa for people who haven't been vaccinated...but they're no longer reporting the numbers right here.

I had an appt with a new rheumatologist today, and found the valet parking at the new medical pavilion.  That's so much easier than their parking garage and then getting the right skywalk to get to the medical area.  With valet, I walk right in on the right floor and there's the lab and rheumatology clinic.  I liked Dr. Singh.  He's lowering my prednisone and will be from 15 mg daily to 10 by Aug and until I see him again in Sept.  He also in Sept. will have more blood work ordered, including some new tests on antibodies that he thinks will help him understand better my situation.

We finally got a little shower today after I got home, and I hope for more tomorrow.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

Cottoncandy

Good morning...got to walk today...track was open..got some bad/sad news about my primary Dr that I have had 27 years...as of Aug 18 will not be. Seeing patients any more..he is taking a high position at the hospital..I was given list of Drs he recommended and who are taking new patients...life goes on...He really had his patients spoiled...praying The one I get is similar to him..it's a bit cooler this morning..time seems to whirling by..already the weekend almost...have a great day

maryz

Darlene, I know you'll miss your doc - it's tough to find a new one. Once when we had to change like that, we just picked another doc in the practice - so we didn't have to move all our records, etc. It worked out well.  Good luck.

Marilyn, it's so touch to deal with Alzheimer's - to work around things and not try to change them. Your description of K's gait sounds familiar. Glad you're making the donations - I did that, too.

jane, your new rheumatologist sounds like a winner. I loved using the valet parking when I went to the big facilities, and with the handicapped tag, my only cost was a tip to the attendant.

Sharon, Hooray for the praise from the PT. They can be such a help. We leave Saturday morning early - it's an 8-hour drive. They'll get most of my stuff tomorrow and pack the car tomorrow night.  No polish on my toes - just the trimming, massage, etc. I have really ugly feet and hammer-toes, so I never go without shoes and socks.

We had a lot of rain yesterday, but for the next few days, it's just supposed to be the usual summer stuff - hot, humid, with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms.

Hugs, Buddies!

I'm having a prescription problem I've never encountered before.  Apparently the doctor sent a 'script which had 2 sets of instructions.
It was apparently the first 'script and then he added his instructions to the top, but the bottom didn't get deleted. SOooo...WalMart has sent it back twice and the Clinic has returned the exact same thing.  They supposedly called and have left messages, but no return call.  I went out and spoke to another tech there and she said she'd call, too.  I also called and left a message for a nurse.  I'm at a loss as to what else to do.  I need that 'script by tomorrow....so may drive down to CR to the Clinic tomorrow afternoon and see if I can speak to a supervisor and try to get it sorted out so I can get my med before I leave Saturday morning.  OR...maybe I should drive down this afternoon while I don't have anything going on.

AAAGGHHHH....

jane

jane

UPDATE: I was upstairs changing clothes to drive to CR and the phone rang...nurse from the Clinic...and says it's straight and WalMart should now be filling it.  WHEW! Saved me a 75 mile roundtrip and throwing a tantrum.   :coolsmiley:  :2funny:  :tickedoff:

SharonE

Jane, glad you got your med straightened out and got by without throwing a tantrum! ;D Have a good trip. YOur new doc sounds on the ball, even if his nurse or clinic wasn't.

Mary, Happy Beach Time! Sorry, forgot that you didn't do sandals. Even though my toes are arthritic and not pretty, sandals are the shoes of choice for me, because they are so much more comfortable.

Darlene, sorry you have to change doctors. I'm not real happy with my doctor either, but it is so convenient that she comes to the house that I'm staying with her for the time being. Hope you find a good replacement.

Mary Page, you're right that I can't wait to get my hands on little Ceci, but it may be some time before I can since they live in Indianapolis and we are in Charlotte, NC. Hope you didn't have any bad effects from Elsa.

Marilyn, hope everything is moving along well for you. We donated about a half truck load to Salvation Army (the only charity that would pick up during the pandemic) and another bunch of stuff to the church + a U Haul full to the kids and grandkids.  And this was out 4th downsizing!! Glad you found a good charity that would pick up. We had to box everything for SA.

OK, more big news here!! The hospital called me yesterday morning and said there had been a cancellation for Monday in the ultrasound procedures and did I want to take it. Of course I did. So please pray or think good thoughts for me on Monday that the procedure is effective and minimal side effects. I'm a little scared but also excited at the idea of having a steady hand again.

Hi to Jeanne and Alpiner and anyone else popping in. Have a good day. Sharon

maryz

Sharon, hooray for the cancellation! All good thoughts - and can't wait to hear about it.
