I find it very interesting that Fox news has required all of its staff to be fully vaccinated with the booster to work there. Hmmm...

Patricia, I remember Norm (and Mary Ann and Dot)  very well indeed.  I joined Senior Net in 1999.  It seems to me that was before he started his Bait & Tackle place, and everyone had state forums and his was Michigan.  I have a faulty memory these days, though, and could be wrong.  Mary Ann & I kept in touch during the period when I was not able to find the time for Seniors & Friends.

Along about 2004 or 2005, Bob & I planned a very elaborate {by that I mean it was about a month long and included many stops) trip to Florida, and, of course, we planned to meet with several groups of cyber friends, including Norm & Dot and a bunch in or around Tampa.  We got a notebook and arranged our dates and made a heap of B&B reservations, and carefully put the confirmations in the notebook under the proper dates.  Bob was particularly looking forward to visiting a dear old friend for several days and playing golf with him again.  At the same time, our daughter Pam was going to join us from Arizona and accompany me to Disney World.  Or is it Land?  I get mixed up there, too.  Anyway, we were psyched, but then Bob fell ill and had to have surgery, and I had to cancel every one of those reservations.

And I never in life got to Disney World.  Or Land, either, for that matter!  Everyone in my family has been except Pam and me!  Well, and our newest great grand, who is only 2 months old.

Monday greetings.

MaryPage...I don't think any of our folks here would think that that email was legit.  It sure does make one angry though.

Niece has left for northern WI.  We had a great weekend.

AND now our Alaska Friend Patricia is sending me some of their frigid temps.  Tomorrow through Wed to be high of  0 and low of -20.  I'm going nowhere.
I won't make doc or dentist apps in Jan and Feb. for this very reason.  I'm snuggling in for a long winter's respite.   :D

Stay safe and WARM!

jane

patricia19

Jane, we'll be heading back down into the minuses soon enough. To be plus 36 in January, traditionally our second coldest is unbelievable. February is normally our most frigid, but this year's extended forecast doesn't look that way.

MaryPage

Debi picked me up fairly early and took me to see a new pulmonologist.  My breathing has been getting scary, to say the least.  Debi went all through the visit with me, and we both liked him.  Then I had a long breathing test with a technologist and we went to another building, where I had an x-ray.  I will go back on the 1st for a follow up.

Chip gets home from Seattle Wednesday night.  I have missed him, but it is lovely to put something somewhere and have it stay there.  I guess everything in life is a trade off.

It is still icy cold here, but lovely to look at sunny and clear of actual ice.  I am running behind because I dropped everything to sit down and watch HBO's new show: THE GILDED AGE earlier this evening.  I predict it will be as popular as Downton Abbey turned out to be.  Me, I loved it!

Sweet dreams to you all.

jane

It's clear and sunny and still very nippy...we have 0 temperature!  But back down to the negatives tonight.  I'm going nowhere!

Stay safe, Buddies!

We're at plus 25, but tomorrow will see us returning to the minuses. Our Chinook wind from the mountains created our warmer temperatures.

"What happens is, we get some southerly flow through the passes which creates kind of these warm, strong winds through the passes," Kreller elaborated, "and it goes down the mountains, and warms us up. So basically, we get this warmer weather just because of the winds going through the passes, and right now, we're experiencing anywhere from 70 miles per hour to 80 miles per hour. So it's a stronger Chinook wind, which means our temperatures here in the greater Fairbanks area are warmer."

Edit: The 70-80 mph winds stay in the mountains while we reap their effect.

Hello Buddies. My leg seems to be improving just a tiny bit each day.  I went to the Chiropractor yesterday. I sure needed that. I will go back on Monday next for another adjustment.

I went to Grocery Outlet this morning to get the stuff I use to make the dogs food and bought more other things that I thought I needed. At least I have the $$ in the bank to pay for the groceries. I have to go back to the store to get stamps to mail a check. I hardley ever wirte checks anymore but this one place doesn't do the online or over the phone business
It is coold here at 12:30pm it is 41°

You made me laugh, MaryPage.  My son, David, lives with me, too, and I am also 92.  If David wasn't with me I'd probably have to leave my home.  I love him dearly and am so grateful for his willingness to help me but sometimes, I would love to go back and find that what I put in a certain place is actually still there.  ;D

Good morning minus four today, and we've six or so days of minuses. I'm only seventy, and that seems odd for me to use the term only as I can put something down and go back to see it's gone. It shows up in another place, and since I don't have a son, it must be poltergeists, right?

I hope everyone with ills is feeling better today and even better tomorrow

Cottoncandy

Good morning...50 here this morning..just got back from walking...had eye appt yesterday..my Eye Dr wants to do a procedure for dry eyes...which I have..called putting plugs in your eyes...have any of you had that done or know about it? I'm always cautious about doing any procedure to eyes...Marlyin glad you are doing better...hope everyone is staying warm and healthy....

MaryPage

Oh, Phyllis; what a lovely morning present for me to hear I made you laugh.

Actually, it is one of those myriad mysteries of how & why the male of our species is so very different from the female.

Mama used to say to me: "You must have a place for everything, and everything in its place!"

Well, I do.  And silly me, I expect everything to BE in its place.  Unfortunately, much though he loves me, the same household rule does not penetrate my son's skin, let alone find its way into his brain.

I have one peculiarity.  Well, mebbe not just one, but one relating to this conversation.  I have to have Kleenex and scissors at hand, on command when I need one.  Thus every room in the house is equipped to serve me.  Every room.

There is a tall coffee mug with a pair of scissors in every room.  The Kitchen sports three.  My husband thought this was Einsteinian of me.  I never argued with him when he praised me for being brilliant.

But whereas I carefully return any and every item in this house I pick up and use, just as a swallow flies home to its nest, my son just drops the item wheresoever he is utilizing it.  Any attempts to change this result in an accusation of "nagging."

Go figure.

Today is gorgeous, but is cut-slices-in-your-face cold.  I have done something I simply hate to do, but is necessary mebbe once every 5 or 6 years: I have left all of the curtains closed over my 3 large sets of sliding glass doors and other windows.  The cold simply radiates from the glass, and, while I prefer seeing the outside world, it makes it much warmer and cozier inside.

maryz

It's been down in the teens this morning around here. High is predicted to be in the 30s. At least the sun is out. I sit by a not-well-insulated window in the dining room, MaryPage, and I know whereof you speak about the cold radiating and keeping the blinds/curtains closed.

Darlene, I've heard of that procedure before. It's not new. I've had some problems with dry eyes, but so far, have controlled it with moisture drops. I think it's an easy procedure, and also one that can be reversed if necessary.

News from here - Margaret tested positive with a home test this morning. She's had only some sinus congestion, but still she was here on Sunday. I tested negative this morning, and they'll do it again on Friday and Monday. Also, I'm quarantined until a negative test on Monday. Oh, well....

It's not just nippy here today, it's dang cold!  -17 this morning with wind chill at -28!  TV weatherguessers say tomorrow up almost 50 degrees to +30. And then back down on Friday to +15.  My body HATES these roller coaster temps.

And that's my news!  Staying in again today and reading.

Stay safe and warm.

I'd intended to write more, but had call from cancer surgeon's office changing my yearly check up appt in April, so I clicked post so I wouldn't lose it.

Marilyn...good on leg doing better!

Maryz...hope you're not infected and that your daughter is ok.

Phyllis...hi!

Darlene...I've heard of those plugs.  I think a google search will give you some info.

Patricia...you've had a brief rest from the minus range.

MaryPage...drapes closed should help a lot.

Jane

Wow, what a lot of posts since I was last in.  Mary Page, your view is lovely. I agree about men not putting things up. John's not horrible about it, but ....I hope your breathing tests come out all right. Sorry about your hacking. I didn't receive any emails, but would have discounted them anyway.

Patricia & Jane, I agree about the roller coaster temps. Altho ours aren't as bad as either of yours, it is still too cold for me today after being 59 yesterday.

Darlene, I had the plugs put in for dry eyes and they popped out in a few days, so didn't try them again. I get by with Thera Tears drops.

Marilyn, glad you're getting better and that the chiro is helping.

Mary, I'm so sorry to hear Margaret has Covid. Hope it is mild and that you continue to test negative.

No real news here except for snow last weekend and possible snow this weekend. It melts off in a day or so, so I don't worry about it.

I haven't felt very well today, kind of woozy and headachey. No cause that I can think of. Not typical of Covid, so I guess just old age.

Keep warm and safe everyone. Sharon

Cottoncandy

Sharon...are those eye drops OTC??

jane

Sharon...I hope you feel better today.

Darlene...I also use drops for dry eyes.  Mine are OTC... Called Restore Plus .  They are preservative free, which my eye doc said to get and they are single use containers.  I get them at WalMart and their brand.

It warmed up into the mid 30s....incredible rise of nearly 50 degrees.  I went out to the grocery stores.  I needed a few items, but not enough for a curbside pickup.  It was also good to get out of the house.  I'm really becoming a hermit.  🥺

maryz

Darlene, the drops I've used are all OTC. When I was doing my own shopping, I usually got Equate (Walmart) brand or Bausch & Loumb (sp?), but definitely NOT the ones that said were for "red eye".

Excellent point, Mary!

Quiet day here again.

Stay healthy!

MaryPage

I just wrote one of my long posts, just to lose it when I went elsewhere to find a name.  We really suffer the lack of a place to pause our masterpieces while we check on something elsewhere!

But Pooooffff!  They disappear without even a puff of smoke!

We are expecting a humongous snowstorm.  Chip went to the grocery store last night, and we are all set to be warm, snug, and well fed.

If you have not noticed, Julian Fellowes has a new series on HBO.   The critics are being nasty, but I adore it.  Have watched it twice so far, and look forward to a new episode. THE GILDED AGE.  I loved Cynthia Nixon in Sex & The City, and now she plays the nice aunt in this.  It is a star-studded cast, but she stands out for me.

patricia19

Good morning all; still warm this morning, but we're losing our cloud cover and expect to see some severe minuses next week. Other than that, nothing new here and only some regular chores.

I'm beginning to think I might have dry eyes or perhaps cold in my eyes. I'm not sure, but every winter, my eyes weep, and in the morning, it's hardened around the corners, and I have to use a warm washcloth to loosen and remove those clumps. It's a winter problem that I don't have information on to look it up.

MaryPage

We got the snowstorm, but it looks like less than an inch of pure powder.  Makes a lovely picture, it does!  Everything so pretty, but the roads all cleared off: some of them by melting.  Our sidewalks have been swept off: no shoveling required.  Oh, I do so love Winter when it is not a threat of any kind.

MaryPage

Oh, Callie, I am so over the moonthat you like it.  I LOVE it, and am happy with costume history dramas full of splendid gowns and filthy rich people.  I enjoy it all without any sense of jealousy.

So we will have fun comparing notes on it!

CallieOK

MaryPage,  I've removed my post because I thought I was in another folder and most of it wouldn't make sense to the regulars here. :-[
Come over to the Bait and Tackle shop and we'll continue our conversation.

Hi Gals, Just a quick note. First, Darlene, yes, the Thera Tears are OTC and have worked better for me than some other brands which I can't remember.

Our temps have been below freezing over the weekend, freezing this AM, now 46 and supposed to reach 57 this afternoon if you can believe it. In the 60's the next 3 days! No wonder, I hurt so much.

Tomorrow I go for a manicure and then to Walgreens for the Sr. Day sale. We try to get all our drug store needs then. Does everyone know that Walgreens has 20% off the first Tues of every month? Quite a savings. Then bridge in the afternoon.

Wed is our 6 month dental checkup. Nothing else going on this week that I know of.

Mary, I hope Margaret is okay by now and that you didn't get it.

Jane, I bet you've been huddling close to the fire. Hope things ease up in IA.

Mary Page, I like the light snows that melt quickly too. Pretty to start and then gone. That's the way of our Carolina snows.

Everyone stay in and stay warm.  Sharon [/size=3]

jane

Sharon...that's a nice savings at Walgreen's, if nearby.

I finally ventured out into the cold world this morning. My one car I hadn't driven since I came back from Ohio at Christmas, so I played musical cars this morning and got it out and took it for a "run"...out to fill it up and then to Farm Fleet for birdseed and to WalMart for a couple things and then out on the divided highway again for a bit of a run, and back home and tucked back in the garage.  I need to go for a haircut tomorrow, but will take the car with the new battery and winter tires.

Wednesday and a couple more days we're to be back in arctic temps.  As Sharon said, the body KNOWS...and doesn't like it.   >:(

I did some minor housework this morning...NOT my favorite thing to do, but my friend who comes has had health issues with her husband and got him into Mayo in Rochester, MN, and I'm hoping they have good news for them.  Iowa City neurologist is saying beginning of ALS.  I sure hope they're wrong.

Nothing else new around here.

Good morning, it's minus 36 and going to a high of minus 26. We will very slowly warm again until the 4th has a high and low of zero. I have no idea how I'll spend my day; nothing is pressing, so it may be simply on the couch and computer!

I seem to be on weather opposites again, but my body, as yours certainly has been at odds with what's out there!

maryz

Well, Patricia, I spend my time mostly on the laptop or tablet or knitting, but that's my "normal".   ;D

At least I have been released from quarantine. And Margaret has been told by the Health Department that she can leave home, with a mask, and staying away from crowds. I talked to her today and she says she's feeling okay, but does sound like she has a head cold.

Like everybody else, our temps are crazy, but mine are more like Sharon's.

Stay healthy, Buddies!
