What a Nightmare!  So sorry you had to suffer all of that.  Hope the heel heals fast and everything gets comfortable for you once again.

alpiner1

My heel has been hurting for 2 weeks .  We bought insoles while in Las Vegas & they didn't help much .  Any suggestions ?  Would an epsom salts foot soak help ?  I have been laying a couple of wash cloths  in the bath tub when I shower to cushion my feet  . Last evening we went to Wednesday evening Bible class & my foot was so uncomfortable I took my shoe off .

patricia19

Have you tried hot and cold compresses? When I sprained my left foot and wrenched my hip in 2021, it was the only thing that seemed to help.

maryz

Is it on the sole of the heel?  It might be a heel spur. Only solution to that, I think, is possibly a cortisone shot or surgery - or just staying off of it for a while.  So sorry, alpiner.

Alpiner, along with the other suggestions you might check out this link to the Mayo Clinic and see if it sounds like your problem.  I had the same aching in my heel years ago and the doctor diagnosed it as Plantar Fasciitis.  There are treatments for it such as stretching exercises, etc., that can help you but it takes a little time to go away.

Good morning everyone! We've turned a corner with our lows in the middle thirties and highs of fifty. The skies are changing from that pale winter wash of blue to a deeper color and sounds are traveling further in warmer air. We've gotten to the point where the snow lies about in smaller grey clumps here and there. While the blue minibus across the street has gone from snow up to its windows to bare pavement.

I've also noticed the return of light. Last night after ten, it was only beginning to slide into dusk.

From the CDC
Unpacking Variants
Throughout the pandemic, the United States has experienced waves of different variants of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. SARS-CoV-2 is constantly changing, and new variants of the virus are expected to occur. In early 2021, the Alpha variant emerged, followed by the Delta variant later that summer. In late 2021 and throughout early 2022, the Omicron variant swept across the country and continues to be the predominant variant circulating in the United States.
chart showing viral lineages among infections
In recent weeks, BA.2.12.1, an Omicron sublineage (sometimes called a "subvariant"), has emerged and is increasing in prevalence in parts of the country. Some early evidence suggests BA.2.12.1 is increasing in variant proportion faster than other Omicron sublineages. CDC is working to better understand BA.2.12.1, how it spreads, and how well existing treatments and vaccines for COVID-19 work against it.

As the virus continues to evolve, we expect to see new variants (and their many different lineages and sublineages) emerge and disappear as they compete against each other and other circulating viruses. CDC scientists closely monitor trends in variant proportions and evaluate the public health impact. While new variants may cause increases in cases, especially in localized areas, it is important to remember that we have all the tools needed to prevent COVID-19. CDC's COVID-19 Community Levels tool can help communities and
people make decisions about prevention strategies. Find your COVID-19 Community Level.
Did you know? Variants are made up of multiple lineages (or closely related groups of variants) and sublineages. Each of these variants starts with a parent lineage (for example, BA.1.1.529 for Omicron) followed by descendant lineages, which can all be arranged like a family tree. As the virus spreads, genetic mutations can accumulate and change the characteristics of the virus. Even though most mutations do not affect the characteristics of the virus, genomic surveillance systems detect and track mutations, regardless of whether they pose public health threats. To see variant proportion data, visit COVID Data Tracker.

AND, we are having the warmest day of the year!  72 degrees!  Ahhhhh, it's wonderful, if short lived!  It's still very windy, but the temp is worth it.

Alpiner...ouch on the heel. It sounds as if the timeshare unit you got has had a lot of hard use and no maintenance.

Patricia...hurrah for warmer temps and more light.

Phyllis...I'm wearing my mask even when no one else is. 🙄

MaryPage...it sounds as if that nor'easter missed you.

Maryz...good to see your post this morning.

I had more energy this morning than I have had in weeks.  I took an old vcr to the fairgrounds where they were doing electronics recycling.  Then I walked for a short time, and loaded up two boxes of stuff to be donated, drove them over to a Goodwill store 20 miles away and dropped that off.

Stay safe and healthy,
Jane

alpiner1

I soaked my heel in epsom salts yesterday , haven't noticed much difference .  I have had this before & it did clear up , so will wait a few more days before going to the doctor .

MaryPage

I'm wearing mine, too, Jane!  Look over here.  See me waving madly at you?  It's ME: MaryPage!  I'm wearing my mask, even with family.

Today was a day of near perfection.  Six of my eight children came and we had a slide show lecture from Rob about his trip to Iceland and that was Splendid.  We had 4 kinds of salad:  Greek, chicken, Winter and Summer.  We had French bread and rolls.  We had lemon bundt cake and eight (8) flavors of Petits fours.  We had lemonade and iced tea and laughed until our sides hurt and it was a love fest and a Joy.

And I wore my mask most of the time.  I'm just not taking any more chances with this horrible, nasty, no-good Covid virus.

Hi Gals. It has been a long week for me. John left last Sun for Gatlinburg for a bridge tournament. I had to get transports or get rides with friends to go to the clubhouse. Then on Tues, Bunny vomited up her lunch and stopped eating. Nothing I could give her would entice her to eat and she started getting very weak. John decided to come home on Thurs. Got here about 2:00 and he agreed with me, it was time to take her to the vet for the last time. We both cried, of course, but we had been expecting it. She had just too many health problems for us & the vet to fix. The house seems empty without her and I'm having to reorganize my time and walks.

Yesterday, John and I went to WM and got summer annuals for my balcony box. My pansies had about had it. So now I have bright red flowers in it to attract the hummers. I had seen one earlier checking out the spot where the petunias hung last year.

I got my newsletter half done for May. Still need some copy to come in.

Jane, I'm glad to see your weather has warmed up. Ours is in the low 80's for a few days then back to the 70's later this week. Also glad you're feeling better.

Mary Page, I envy you your family gathering. I'm not wearing my mask much anymore, but I always have it with me if I think it's necessary.

Alpiner, I'm sorry about your heel. I would say, stay off it and keep it elevated and with ice packs.  Your timeshare should be reported to the timeshare company. That sounds horrific.

Marilyn, hope this is better for you to read.

Hi to Darlene, Patricia, Mary, and anyone else looking in.  Sharon

jane

Sharon...sorry for the passing of your beloved Bunny.  I envy you having pretty flowers in your boxes.  Still way too early here, though it's finally warming up a bit.

Alpiner...hope the heel is feeling better.

MaryPage...it sounds as if you had a WONDERFUL time with 6 of your children and enjoyed many good laughs and stories.

Stay safe,

jane

Good morning from a sunny Interior at 30 degrees, our low for the day. Our snow is almost gone, not even piles anymore, a splash here or a spot there.

Sharon, I was so sorry to read about Bunny, pets are our children, and we miss them.

Your flowers sound lovely, we don't have hummingbirds here, but they are found further south in the Anchorage and Kenai area.

Can I just add me too for Jane's remarks?

I hope everyone's day is better than yesterday's and as you like it!

MaryPage

Sharon, my condolences.  I can share deeply in your grief.  We are a very doggy family, and are closely acquainted with each of our canine kin living with other family members.  Therefore, we have frequent losses like yours of Bunny. We have a few cat people, as well and all; and I am one who wants both close by.  No longer able to keep pets, I think about the wonderful ones I have lived with and loved so dearly.

maryz

Sharon - so sorry to hear about Bunny. They are certainly a part of our lives while we have them.

Into the 80s here, too. I finally had to turn my a/c on yesterday. But of course, it's supposed to be back in the 60s by midweek. Oh, well - at least it's thermostat-controlled.

Hugs to all the Buddies!

Hi Buddies...just got back from a visit with 2 sons...did some fishing and lots visiting.,Sharon sorry about Bunny...I love dogs but don't have one...my kids all do...Haven't read all comments so will just make this short...hope all are well

jane

Darlene...what a great visit with your sons...and fishing, too.

We went fishing a lot when my sister and I were little.  We had to sit in the bottom of the boat while Mom and Dad fished.  When we were a bit older, we had little poles, etc.

You buddies have such warm temps...and we did on Saturday...75...and today I'm back to winter.  39, feels like 24, and freeze warning for tonight.  Geez, no wonder my old body can't adjust.

Family had weekend plans for a "Polish Easter," BUT, Don's "cold" turns out to be covid,[Yes, he's vaxxed, but had 3 weeks of teaching and person to person meetings with people from all over the country...] so plans canceled...because of baby Loch who's 18 months old, his Momma who's pregnant, and old Aunt Jane who's now more susceptible to colds, flu, viruses, etc. bacause of new anti-inflammatory med that's been added to the prednisone.  BUT, better safe than sick!

Stay safe,

jane

patricia19

Jane, I'm so sorry but hope Don feels better soon, and everyone will soon be able to get together for the next celebration. There's nothing new here, it's 38 out there, and the gray, grizzled snow is almost gone. People are being urged to watch out for ponding, (We've upgraded from puddling!); and to watch out for frozen drains thawing and basements flooding.

CC, I used to love fishing, we go upriver to a good spot and everyone would settle in for a good time, good company, and the expectation of a good dinner cooked over a campfire.

patricia19

Please join in! The more, the merrier! Bubble suggested a quiz and gave me a few suggestions. The same rules apply. Two questions per person and remember I'm in a different time zone so won't be always as fast to answer as you might wish. I hope everyone enjoys the quiz and that it might induce others to bring their own quizzes, games, and riddles to play!

I went out for a few groceries this morning...only one in WalMart with a mask...same at the other grocery store.
 Oh,, well...

Don is getting better....Patricia not so much.  She sounds terrible and is having a hard time keeping her fever down from 102.  She's sleeping a lot and drinking lots of broth, soup, and water.

Still cold here, too...38 and very windy.  Rain is to move in tomorrow.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

Thank you all for your sympathetic comments about Bunny. I loved her so much and now she's left a hole in my life. Unfortunately, that's the downside of having pets. You outlive them.

John wasn't feeling well when he came home from Gatlinburg, but we didn't think it was anything contagious. Unfortunately, it was a bad cold. He didn't have many cold symptoms, but Sunday night, I started feeling bad and have a doozy of a cold. However, John has been dosing me with extra vitamin C and Zinc and it seemed to help some. I'm better today than yesterday, but I've had John bring my dinner home to me last night and tonight. Had to cancel bridge on Tues of course.  I did go over to my Newsletter office and worked briefly this afternoon, but they are redoing the front entry driveway and so we have to go through another bldg. to get in. What a mess.

Jane, sorry for your Easter cancellation, but that's the way of it these days.

Darlene, your visit sounded nice. I don't like to fish much but John always has. We took a couple fishing vacations when we were young and they were fun.

Patricia, glad the temps are coming up for you and the light as well.

Alpiner, I hope your heel is better.

Hi to Mary Page and Mary and Marilyn and anyone else I've missed. Stay safe and well.  Sharon

patricia19

I just finished receiving my second booster, and so far, so good regarding side effects. The guy giving the shot needs to work on his technique but was very polite. As usual, someone stayed with the three of us in my section of the hallway for thirty minutes to ensure there weren't any issues. I'm glad that's done.

alpiner1

2 weeks & my heel is still hurting , at times it is better .  Yesterday I picked up my hearing aids .  The manual is such small print  & difficult to understand[ .  My husband is going to take a look at it  & I hope he can decipher it .

maryz

alpiner, sorry your heel is still hurting. I understand about the small print. I keep a magnifying glass nearby for such things (and hope that works).

Sharon, I know you're going to hurt for a while. So sorry.  And sorry about the cold, too. That's no fun at all.

jane, we probably had another cool snap  coming, but it won't be anything like yours - only down into the 50s. We were up near 80 today, but it was a beautiful sunny Spring day.

We had our usual end-of-the-month fire drill this morning. Because the weather was nice, we got to go outside, so not too bad.

I had my second doctor appointment of the week this morning. Tuesday I saw the cardiologist. He had changed some of my meds at the last visit, and I had really been slowed down - even less energy than usual, and more shortness of breath. At this visit, he tweaked thing a bit, cutting one of the meds in half. I've noticed the difference already, so that was good. I go back to him in 3 months. I saw my general care NP this morning, and he did a thorough check of all my meds, etc. We pretty much left things "as is", and I'll see him again in 6 months. So life plods along.

Happy Spring to all the Buddies!

Good morning...we are already in summer mode here...my heart is heavy and hurting for my oldest son who was diagnosed with cancer and will be starting the pill chemo today...our prayer is the side effects will be minimal...if you would add him to your prayer list....I ask God to give it to me...not him...but of course we don't bargain with  God...we will all come together and be as strong as needed...had to vent...sorry...have a wonderful weekend...stay safe and well

MaryPage

My heart aches for you, and my wish is that your son will come through this cancer-free and better than new.

Darlene I am praying for your son as I type this."]

I go to the Eye dr this morning, Gilbert is taking me. I look forward to spenidng the time with my son but not for the results of the eye testing.

Yesterday I got Keith to eat 3 full meals, although at supper he did leave some on his plate that he had pushed to the very edge.

Alpiner the pain got so extreme on one of my heels that I hd to have surgery to cut the fascia that goes from the hee; to the toes. The [ain in my left heel finally just went away.

Cottoncandy

Thank You Amy....he is a fighter....appreciate all prayers..His cancer is CLL.....

jane

Sharon...I'm sure the loss of Bunny has left a huge hole in your lives.  Also, keep an eye on that cold.  If you also have a fever, test for Covid. That's how Patricia's Covid presented.

Maryz...glad the doc adjusted the med and you feel better.

Patricia...hurrah for you and the second booster.  I had no side effects, either, except a sore arm.

Alpiner...hope that heel gets better soon.

Darlene...I hope your son's CLL is the slow growing one and the chemo pill will take care of it.

MaryPage...Stay well, Dear Friend!

Marilyn...Gilbert taking you to the eye do. Is one of the good reasons for your move!  You're in a clean, cat-free, non toxic home and have family close by.

Rain, rain, rain here through the weekend. 🤭
