Jane, I was sorry to read about your health issues and car troubles. It seems as if these are the rusty years rather than the golden ones! Dig, I just saw your posting, and we agree.

We had ice earlier in the month and a week back had some white rain and a dusting of snow over the ice. Since then, it's gotten drier and colder in the minuses, with no new snow expected until the 29th. The current temperature is plus seven, up from plus two this morning.

MaryPage, hope the increased oxygen helps!

Sunday afternoon greetings, Buddies.  I've been struggling with sinusitis/cold for a few days and doing ZERO.  But, nobody here care...i.e., ME!

MaryPage...good advice from Patricia on the Oxygen.  [I know we had to adjust Ray's often, but he needed so much the portable I'd bought him didn't give him enough.]  Whatever it takes to keep you comfortable is my advice.

Hi to Mary....sorry TN is so cold....and Patricia.  I hope Sharon is well and Alpiner and Darlene.  I hope Marilyn checks in and lets us know she's OK, too.

It's been bloody cold here the last few days.  It was 10 at 4:30am, but climbed to mid 30s today...first time above 23 for 4-5 days.  The snow is mostly melted, too.

I've been watching World Cup Soccer this morning and now American football.  AND reading at the same time.  I just finished getting my checkbook caught up and paying some big bills.

Hope you're all well and staying safe.  Lots of RSV and flu around here.

jane

patricia19

Jane, we've climbed all the way to 14 today!

Seriously, you take time just to be you. We all need that.

jane

Thanks, Patricia!  I needed that.

Cottoncandy

Hi ....I'm in front of my fireplace...in my recliner and it's 43 degrees....but supposed to warm up by Turkey Day..my kids will be scattered this holiday..I had plans to go to daughters...but that may change...as she has symptoms of flu...Jane hope you are feeling better and Patrica is right....just take time for you...hope Sharon ALPINER.and Marlyin are  healthy and safe....Here's wishing every one a Blessed Holiday......take care

maryz

We all need our slug days, jane. Keep up the good "work".

Darlene, glad you're warming up. Staying well is much more important than any specific day. We celebrate our holiday ("Friends-giving") on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Margaret got back from her trip to Israel on Thursday. Unfortunately the souvenir she brought back is a really bad cold. So far, she's been testing negative for Covid, so we're hoping she improved quickly.

We had highs around 40 all week, with lows in the teens. Fortunately we're supposed to be back to our more seasonal 60s in the upcoming week.

Stay warm, Buddies!

With the subject of oxygen levels I checked my portable oxygen concentrator & it is set at .05 .  I don't remember who set it to that number but it works for me .
Also my husband & I both have neuropathy  in our feet & mine were hurting bad this afternoon .  My primary care doctor told me to get DMSO to use on heel pain & I thought I would see how it worked on my other foot pain .  It worked !!  It was used on horses but now has been approved for human use .  As a side note my doctor has horses so he has had some experience with DMSO .

MaryPage

DMSO.  Never heard of it.  Will look for it.  In the meanwhile, this is not the first animal aide I have heard of becoming a human help!

diglady

DMSO has been around a long time and for humans. see:

Happy Thanksgiving everyone......

I hope you all had a good Turkey Day.  The weather here in Iowa is beautiful.  I'm busy watching World Cup soccer.  Today is USA vs England.  Then there will be football tomorrow and Sunday. I should be all "sports-out" by Monday! :2funny:

Hi Gals, finally getting back in here. Dig Lady, Alpiner, & Mary Page, so sorry to hear of your breathing problems. I only have problems if I exercise too much, but mine is due to CHF/. Marilyn didn't have any cancer, was just worried because of increased breathing problems.

Jane, so sorry to hear of your blood problems. Do fill us in on what the rheumatologist says. Ugh on your snoW.

Mary, same weather pattern here. Was even in low 60's in FL!Just read on FB about you expecting 3 great grands in May!Congratulations

Darlene, Congrats on Georgia Mae! Babies are so sweet. Glad you'll see her at Christmas. I had to go all the way to MN to see my little Jolie.

We went to FL as planned and has a wonderful visit. With all 4 of us pitching in on the dinner, we had a wonderful dinner and Melanie didn't get too tired. She's doing as well as can be expected with the chemo. She had another one the Monday after we left. I was so glad we went the week before TG as the airport in CLT was wall to wall people when we arrived back, but we had no problems.  My niece who lives in Tampa met us for lunch the day we arrived. I hadn't seen her or her husband for about 4 yrs.

My new office is all setup now, email working, so I have the issue all finished except for the list of new residents that I'll get Monday. Then we can proof and get it printed. Had to put in an apology on the first page and explanation of why we skipped an issue.

We finished decorating for Christmas today and I'm also in the middle of laundry. It never ends.

I hope everyone had a great TG.  Stay well. Sharon

jane

Hope everyone is recovering from turkey over-eating!

I did get out to the groceries...very quiet, both places.

Jane

A belated Happy Thanksgiving to each of you dear friends. I had Thanksgiving Dinner at Debi's house yesterday.  It was lovely.  Becky is here from Missouri, staying with and taking great care of me.

maryz

I'm home from our post-Thanksgiving "Friendsgiving" at Margaret's. I came back home overnight, but spent Friday and Saturday at Margaret's. All the girls were there, plus three grands, their spouses, and the one great-grandson. We knew that Sarah and Darby were pregnant and expecting, but found out that Katherine was pregnant, too. They're all due in May, so it will be a really busy month. Darby is having a girl, Sarah a boy, and Katherine doesn't want to know before delivery. Plus they've picked out names. Most exciting!

Then today, we had our turkey and dressing, etc., with also another grandson, spouse, and their son (my first great-grandson (whom I don't get to see very often. Both little guys are 2 1/2, and so cute. It's a shame they don't get to see other very often.  The friends who were there are friends we've had since all the kids (not adults) were in grammar school. It waws total chaos, but so great to see everybody.

I hope everybody had as good a holiday as we did!

Winter is here...temps are really cold and the wind makes the chill go clear to the bone.  Patricia was here Monday to go to the doc with me on Tuesday and it was good to have another pair of ears.  The report is good...don't have to see him until March...and he's weaning me off the steroids since he thinks that's contributing to my osteoporosis and sed rate.  I got my prolia shot and told to be very careful of any falls and get any I have checked out for additional spinal fractures.

Patricia left this morning for Mpls.  I appreciated her coming down to go with me to the appt.

A couple weeks appt free and I'm looking forward to that.

I hope everyone else is doing great and staying healthy.

jane

maryz

Wonderful news, jane - especially about getting off the steroids.  Glad Patricia was with you. Those extra ears are great.

After all the Thanksgiving week and baby news excitement, things have been fairly quiet around here.  Covid and the flu are running wild here. We're not room-confined - yet - but can self-quarantine. There were only 13 people (out of about 28-30) at dinner tonight. Most worrisome is that our two oldest residents (100 and almost 103) have Covid. We'll see how this goes.

Stay warm and healthy, Buddies!

I guess I better sign in...though not much going on here...we are having crazy weather...hit one day and in the 40s next day...typically Texas weather...lots flu here...several out with it from my church.....that's supposed to read hot not hit..I'm decorating some inside...Christmas is on its way....Jane glad you got good report from Dr...when I was on steroids...it affected my sleep..Mary Z..hope u stay safe from Covid...have a great weekend .....

jane

Good almost Saturday Afternoon....

Darlene...hope you escape the flu!  Lots of covid here...nursing home quarantined as 20+ have covid... again.

It was 11 this morning but warmed up all the way to 16!  I'm inside and staying here.

Hope you are all well,

jane

MaryPage

There has been a great to do around here having to do with my blood sugar going sky high when they took me to hospital and they finally figured out they had given me steroids to save my life and they caused the sugar problem.  Far be it from me to be able to explain this to you.

No matter what they do, each med affects some other med or ailment or god knows what.  I cannot follow it all, so I give up!

jane

You are so right, MaryPage.  We really have to keep track of our meds and when something new is added so the medical people we don't see regularly know what's been given to us.  For me, that's become a fulltime job!

Hope all is going better for you.

Marilyn...how are you?

jane

maryz

Well, my number came up.  I tested positive this morning.  I started feeling achy and coughing more overnight, so I decided to stay in my room today and ask for a test. Mostly today, I've slept and just huddled into my quilts in my chair.  We'll see what the next few days brings.

Yuck!

RATS!  Mary....sorry it caught up with you!  Do exactly what you're doing...staying snugly warm and sleeping.  That's my "treatment" for whatever gets me.

It's cold and occasional snowflakes here today, but I dragged this old body out and got my money cards for Christmas, stamps, mailed a few cards, did a bit of grocery shopping, got my prescription...and took myself out for lunch.

I stopped by my CPA to find out why my Soc Sec total for next year is $150 LESS monthly than what I get now.  She didn't know either and will refer it to whoever there works with SS and Medicare, etc.

She said nobody else had been in with this situation, but added, "though a LOT of people never look at their mail.  They just let it pile up."  AAAGGGHHH....I'm too much of a control freak to not look at my mail. :D

Stay warm and safe and healthy,

jane

Only one errand today..getting another fluoride treatment put on
my gums.  It really helps with the sensitivity.

Then, because I was such a good girl at the dentist, I took myself to the Chinese restaurant for lunch.  😇

Stay safe and healthy,

Jane

MaryPage

Mary, Mary!
I am SO sorry.  Be well, My Friend!  Please be well.

SharonE

Hi Gals, not much happening here. We decorated the weekend after TG. I got the Christmas letter done and John mailed them today. My issue of the newsletter got out a week or so ago. Everyone liked it. I had a Sr Jeopardy game in it and they loved it. Weather has been up and down. Lots of rain. No covid or flu that I know of in our center. I finished my PT yesterday.

Oh Jonathan got engaged last weekend to the girl he's been going with for about 3 yrs. This will be his 2nd marriage so he's taken some time committing. She's a kindergarten teacher and we met her last summer. She seems very nice. Scottie plans to get engaged in June before moving to Minneapolis to be with his fiance and continue working on his dissertation. They will wait to get married till he has his PhD. She is an engineer and got a good job in Mpls.

Mary, so sorry you got the Covid. Drink lots of water and sleep as much as possible.

Jane, glad they figured out what was messing up your #'s. Steroids are great pain relievers, but they do have lots of side effects.

Mary Page, glad your daughter accompanied you to the doctor.

Darlene, I'm glad you put up some decorations.

Gotta go to dinner. Everyone stay warm and well. Sharon

jane

The snow they said was coming arrived overnight.  It looks very pretty, but glad I didn't have to drive in it this morning.

Will be watching World Cup soccer at 1:00.

Mary Page...hope all is going fine over in Annapolis!

Darlene...I, too, have only a few decorations out.

Sharon...glad the Newsletter was a hit...and you have two weddings in the future.

Mary...hope you feeling better.

Stay safe and healthy,

Jane

Thankyou, Jane.  I am plugging along.  The family are determined to take care of me and NOT put me in an institution of any kind, so I feel amazed to be so lucky.  I sleep a lot, and am way behind on many things; but so be it.  Life is good while I am still tasting it.  Becky and I watched Where the Crawdads Sing on Netflix yesterday.  The Cinematography was to die for.  Best EVer!
