I like the Cubs, but haven't told Tim as Kris was born and reared near Cleveland and she's a die hard Cleveland fan.  I've just finished watching PBS news and have turned to the game.  I did pull for the Cleveland pro basketball team in their championship games.  I'll watch it while reading.  TCM is having spooky movies this week and I'm not happy with it--although I did watch "Wait Until Dark" last night.  Audrey Hepburn was/is terrific as the blind girl who is tormented by bad guys who are looking for a doll that has drugs in it--and was passed to her husband at an airport.  I didn't scream this time, but it was still pretty scary.

So I'm going to watch the baseball game--actually listen to it and glance up occasionally and hope it'll be over by 11:00.

I hope you've all had a good day.

Mary, I am proud of you!  It sounds like you are doing great with the PT and know you'll continue to improve.  It's great they're working on upper body strength to help with walker/chair/cane!  Big Hugs!

Jane, I agree that it's great both these teams made it to the World Series.  I can't remember who played in the '54 series, but my Science teacher kept her radio on during class--we didn't get much Science learned!

MaryPage, I'm sorry to hear about the COPD.  That's a tough diagnosis, but I know you will work on it with your best "college try".  Hopefully the meds will keep it under control.  Big Hugs for you, too.

Jeanne, I'm sorry about your friend.  I'm glad you got home before the storm was too bad.

Sharon, it's good your neurosurgeon has some ideas about helping you.  I hope the mylegram gives him enough info to help with the next step.

Marilyn, when I was teaching, I had TB tests annually as Alabama required them for all teachers.  It's not a tough test as you probably know by now and it's a good thing to do when you are with invalids and/or children who may not be tested.

I won first place (a whole $1.00 bill!) today at my Wednesday bridge club.  My partners and I got really good cards.  We play 3 rounds of 6 hands each.

Enjoy your evening and sleep well tonight, Buddies.

Good evening Buddies.  My mouth is still hurting, however, I took Bayer Back and Body for the pain I am still having. It is hurting on the both the upper and lower side of my jaw.  :tickedoff:

Ray was born and grew up on the west side of Cleveland. He of course likes the Cleveland Indians. Since Ray played football in high school, he follows the Cleveland Browns. However not as closely as he used too. When we were still newly weds I taught 4th grade. On Sunday afternoons I made out my lesson plans for the coming week. Well I was concentrating on what I was doing, so I was caught off guard when Ray shouted at the refs. I went to the ceiling.  :2funny:

I was raised around 30 miles south of Cleveland.  My mother's father was an avid fan of the Indians. As was my mother. When they had Woman's Day (cheaper price for a daytime game) my mom went if she could arrange it. My Dad liked watching Baseball on television on the weekends.  As you can tell, I was raised by sports fans.  ;D

MaryPage ~ I'm sorry to hear about the COPD.

SCFSue ~ You are sounding better!

My son who lives with me, Chip, is rooting for Cleveland.  But I am thinking about the People of Chicago, and their having no series win since 1908, over 100 years.  So I am rooting for the people of that great city, who, in their hearts, if not their pocketbooks, own that team.  For Cleveland, it has been no win since 1948.
To be totally honest, I have never watched a World Series.  Or any other baseball game on television.  Or at a field.  Boring Big Time!

SCFSue

I watched the baseball game last night and was delighted that the Cubs won.  They haven't won much since 1945.  I'm not telling Kris, though.  She was born and raised near Akron and then came to Auburn for a Fisheries degree after attending a two year college up there.  I did root for the Cleveland basketball team with LeBron James in the spring and was happy they won.  I won't even tell Tim I'm rooting for the Cubs.

I've just come in from my morning walk.  Don, a neighbor, was piddling around in his driveway and came down to the street to tell me about what is going on in his life right now.  His wife was a long time invalid after retiring as a professor of something at AU--and he was also a professor, but I don't know what he taught.  I'd hoped to get back home sooner, but I really haven't much else to do today, so that's okay, too.

MaryPage, I think the Cubs haven't won since 1948, but I could be mistaken.  They played very well last night--and the game was in Cleveland.  Watching baseball on TV is boring, so I read during the game, but am still able to take it all in.  I'm so sorry about the COPD and hope the meds help.

GinnyAnn, I'm so sorry you are having so much pain with your dental problems.  When will your treatment end?  I know it's tough to have constant pain like that.  Are you able to eat regular food or must it be something soft?  Can Ray help with the cooking?  I'd love to send you some of my homemade vegetable soup--which I haven't made since last winter--so I'm not much help.

Jane, I'm glad, too, the Cubs and the Indians made the World Series.  I think it'll be a good one and I hope it's fairly evenly divided, although because of the Cubs lengthy string of losses, I'd like to see them win it all.  I loved playing sandlot baseball when I was a kid (I was the only girl on the neighborhood team).  The boys just put up with me and let me play first base as my favorite player was Johnny Mize on the NY Yankees.

Mary, just a shout out for a good day with your rehab exercises.  I hope everything continues to progress smoothly.  It will take time, but I know you can handle it.

Have a good day, Buddies.

MaryPage I too have COPD I've had it for a few yrs. However, I do quite well as long as I use my inhaler every morning. I walk up and down these hills 3-4 times a day with Freckles.  When I go to the Dr. she always tells me that my lungs are clear. Last summer I ran out  of the inhaler and was without any medication for  4 days, it didn't  bother me much and I had not taken the rescue inhaler with me. (Ventolin) My daily inhaler is Anoro Ellipta, It is once dailyh and has no steroids. I have refused to use any inhaler that has steroids.

Today is the furry friends monthly luncheon and meeting. Not every one goes to the luncheon , Today we are going to a Thai
restaurant and I am thinking maybe I will have the Pineapple Shrimp Curry.

I will sure be glad when my eye appt comes up Dec 31, It seems like my eyes are getting worse. Lastg exam they were at 275  now I am having trouble reading with the 275's so I bought some 325's I can read with them but it is still difficult. Oh the things that happen as we grow older.

SharonE

Sue, the Cubs last won a World Series in 1908, but played & got beat in 19 48.  I can't watch BB on TV either.  I played some as a kid, like you, but that was different.  Our whole family root for the Cubs.

I just came in from filling the birdbath and one feeder and bringing in the finch sock to wash it good before refilling it when it dries out. That pretty much took care of any energy I have right now.  However, this afternoon, I will have to move furniture around for the carpet cleaners who are coming tomorrow. I have no plans other than that.

Ginny, I do hope you get your dental problems sorted out.

Mary Page, so sorry to hear about the COPD. Not a good thing.  I went through all the testing and stuff last year, but I'm good to go.  However, I do get short of breath from exertion--probably due to being overweight and my heart issues.

Mary Z, you are doing so well with your rehab. I hope it continues to progress well.  Good that they are working with your upper body strength too. They didn't do that with me. They primarily concentrated on strengthing the quadricep and the bicycle thingy.

Jane, isn't it funny how we root for the teams that our parents or gparents did?  That's the case with John and our kids.  I can't remember Dad having a special team.  When I was growing up, almost all the series were between the Yankees and the Dodgers!

Marilyn, just saw your post. It sounds like you are doing the best possible things for your COPD. Keep it up. Maybe you should reschedule your eye appt. Sounds like a big change.  Enjoy your luncheon.

Hi Marilyn, Jeanne, Darlene, Joy & whoever else I've missed.  Sharon

MaryPage

Marilyn, my inhaler is INCRUSE ELLIPTA.  I know absolutely nothing about this stuff.
This morning, Chip sat down and read the HUGE amount of literature that came with, and put me through the paces, and then I had my first ever at home inhalation exercise.  Easy.  Complicated, but easy.  I can already feel it breaking up the stuff in my lungs.
I sent all of you whose email address I possess a picture someone sent me this morning of Susan B. Anthony's gravestone covered with I VOTED stickers and pins.  Thrilled me to the core.  Gave me goosebumps and made my face fill up as though I were going to cry.  (my tear ducts actually atrophied back in 1990, and I have not cried a tear since, but I still feel my face fill up when the flag goes by, and so forth!)  I voted by absentee ballot last week, but wish I had an I voted sticker to put on her grave, too!
Last night I watched Charlie Rose interview Ruth Bader Ginsberg and Sonia Sotomayor in front of an audience.  They were a HOOT!  And they just sparkled with brilliance.  Would'a done your heart proud!

jane

Home from our overnight get away.  Something I ate or drank yesterday didn't agree with me, so I'm sure glad to be home.

It's cold and wet and my joints hate this weather and kept me awake from 2:00-4:00 am.

I watched a bit of the baseball game, but went to sleep at 3-0.

Sharon..aI went to the vitamin site you mentioned for cranberry pills to help prevent UTI...there were many...can u be more specific to what works for u?  MaryZ...good u are improving each day.....Marlyin...I know what u are going through with the driving...I had to take over that chore last 10 years of my husbands life...he just couldn't do it anymore...Hi to all. Candy

jane

Cool, windy end of October morning here.  The landscape people are here to install a trellis for a clymatis (sp?) and to do the fall garden cleanup...cutting down what needs to be cut down...like lots and lots of hostas, etc.  I just can't do that anymore, and it'll be good to have it done.

I want to go vote today, so I don't need to worry about long lines and bad weather.

Have a good Friday in your neck of the woods.

jane

SharonE

Darlene, I take the Triple Strength Cranberry Fruit Concentrate. 12,600 mg . I take that twice a day. I hope that helps. They also have a double strength, I think, but I'd rather go all out.

Jane, so sorry you felt so bad yesterday, but it sounds like you're better today. Nice to get your voting done early.  We're using absentee ballots. We will mail them Monday. Since we need to witness each other's ballot, I have to wait for John to get home.

Tlhe carpet cleaner guy is here now.  When Bunny first started her UTI, she had multiple accidents, plus when she was on the prednisone, so hopefully, she is over all that.  I clean up after her as much as lI can with a bottled cleaner, but some of it still didn't come up, so he's doing a really good cleaning, including a pet treatment to neutralize any odors, etc.  I've never had this kind of trouble except with a puppy and it doesn't make me a happy camper. However, I know she can't help it.

I finally bit the bullet and bought a smartphone from QVC last night. My grandson, who worked for Sprint, said it wasn't top of the line, but he thought it would do everything I wanted to do with it.  It came with 1350 minutes of talk, data, & texting + all of the minutes I have left on my other cell phone will roll over. It also had all the accessories, all for $99. I decided I couldn't pass it up.  However, I suspect I will have a steep learning curve. I'm glad they have a class at the club house.

Our neighbors invited us for TG this year, so that will be nice.  We had asked Lori if she could come, but she has too much work to get done on her loft remodelling.  Brian had asked us up there, but I just didn't feel up to the hassle of traveling.   All for now.  Sharon

JeanneP

Jane. are you getting the warm up for next 4 days as we are suppose to? Not here yet.
Now my Hostas are massive this year. Usually have them cut down by now. Ask the man who cuts my yard to do it but I think his back is hurting. He is now 83. However I have some men from a fraternity coming Nov. 6 to clean up the shed and yard. They can cut them down. To much for me now..
Now I was reading in the paper today and was on the news yesterday. Says that taking Cranberry in any form to help UTI. wasting money.  They did a test on 2000 . half taking the pills and rest taking a dummy pill.  No change . Now my OB Dr. told me that years ago.  Like I said. If I stay out of bath water I never get UTI anymore. I had always thought that douching also was something women did after getting married.  Another old lady tale. He told me to quit using them also.
Now just a daily shower for me.        (Even that, they say is hard on skin). No wonder our Grandmothers years ago has much better skin than we have. They didn't have all the fancy creams and lotions we spend a fortune on.

Voting is done and the warmer weather is just getting here.  It was plain raw and cold when we went to the Court House to vote.  They had had 2800 people vote but expected the usual 5000.  She said she hopes 2500 people don't show up next week to vote....it's a very small office.

Another beautiful sunny day here on the bay.  The blue waters are dotted with white sails.  It is on the coolish side, in the sixties now and supposed to perhaps go up to 70° before it begins to turn down again at dusk.

Our local paper says early voting was constant yesterday, with lines forming around the block.  Our state has no problem with early voting, though;  they have huge venues to take it all.  We have had early voting since Thursday, and, since it is much heavier than at this time 4 years ago, our experts think we might wind up with an 85% turnout by the time the tallying up is done on Election Night.  I am proud to say Maryland is one state that is avid to give every single person every possible opportunity to register and cast their ballot.  Not a wisp of attempting to curtail or block some communities from exercising their franchise.  As for rigging the results, well, I have served many times as an Election Judge in this state, and I can testify absolutely that there is NO CHANCE of cheating in this state.  Not a chance!
Now, I could not handle working at the polls.  It is a punishingly arduous and long day, but very enjoyable for those who still have the stamina to do it.
Mary, have you heard a peep out of your younguns as to how their trip to the old Yugoslavia went?

maryz

MP, John and I were election officials, too - for many years.  Loved doing it, but it's a hard day's work.  The kids got back Thursday night.  They had a great time, so will be going through pictures, and getting back to 'normal'.

Sharon, has myelogram been scheduled yet?

Slow progress, painful PT - nothing much else  Hugs to all!

Bob and I didn't get to vote until 1972.  Alabama had a law that prohibited voting unless you registered in person at your home of record--which was Prattville, Alabama, where his parents lived.  The law was changed to permit active duty military vote by absentee ballot.  I was working in the Key West McGovern campaign (door to door) and called Prattville and they sent us absentee ballots, so we both voted for the first time.  He never told me, but I think he voted for McGovern, too.  The next year the whole squadron was moved out of Key West to Patuxent River, Md.  We lived in Navy Housing on base as did many others from our squadron.  One day Bill who was in High School came home steaming mad.  He wanted to know why I worked in the McGovern campaign.  I wanted to know why he was so upset almost a year later.  He said Cindy Y. stood up on the school bus and told everyone that his mother didn't vote for Nixon, she worked in the McGovern campaign.  Everyone on the bus laughed at him.  I'd have enjoyed being on that school bus to give them a piece of my mind!

It's been fall-like here today.  Lot of sunshine and somewhat cooler.  I spent about an hour cleaning leaves off my deck in the back yard.  There are still lots more down everywhere and I'll probably have to do it again tomorrow after church.

Bonney and I went to Brick Oven for pizza at lunch time.  We enjoyed the pizza and I had a glass of beer.  We haven't been to Brick Oven for almost a month.

I'm needing to stop writing and watch this ball game.  Auburn is off to a bad start.  Ole Miss Just Made a TD--Yuck!

Have a nice evening, Buddies.

Hi my friends.  It was a quiet day here. I had a nice time sitting on the back deck.  It covers most of the back of the house.

Ray is having a taste for some of the colder weather comfort foods. Looks like I will be giving the new range a workout.  ;D  He said he will help. I plan on taking him up on that offer.

I know that I have missed few elections. I also worked the polls.  It sure was a long day. One good thing was that it was close to home. If I had worked another year, I probably would of been a judge. I didn't want that responsibility.

http://www.gomn.com/news/hilarious-election-ad-from-a-texan-politician-goes-viral/

Is the funniest political ad I've ever seen.  I needed this laugh after being inundated with ads and emails this week.

Beautiful day here, but only to be in the 50s.  The fall colors have faded, many leaves are down, and local farmers are saying their best harvest ever.

Nothing much planned here....gardens are cut back and ready for winter rest.  Leaves will be gotten up after a couple of trees decide its time to shed them....always a couple of stragglers!

Jane

MaryPage

I agree!  Excellent ad, Jane.

Tried 3 times just to click on the site address and get it to come up properly on line, but it was all messed up with pop ups and so forth, and just would not give me the goods.  So, finally, I just highlighted and copied the site address you gave and then pasted it in my on line address bar, and voila!  There it was, and I'll bet whoever he is, this Gerald wins the election where he is!  I mean, WHO could resist her plea?

SCFSue

Jane, thanks for posting this ad.  I'm still chuckling to myself!  I'd vote for Gerald in a New York minute!  I am sick of the back and forth bickering of the Presidential candidates and am considering a write in vote for Mickey Mouse!

I will canvass my neighbors to see if one of them will take me to the nearby rec center to vote.  Unfortunately I don't like either of the Presidential candidates or the locals running for re-election.  The congressman for our district is a total moron and although our city candidates for the most part are OK, there are none who are outstanding.  I have written to our congressman a number of times and also e-mailed him.  The only time he answered was when he sent me two letters on the same topic.  One agreed with everything I'd asked him to consider and the other chided me for being a liberal.  The letters arrived on the same day.

I skipped church this morning as Olyne called about 8:30 and told me her son had arrived and spent the night and she wasn't going to Sunday School.  I think they probably went to church unless he's one of the 3 who live elsewhere.  One of her sons lives in Gulf Shores, AL.

I'm procrastinating today.  I have to read a book, Braiding Sweetgrass , and make a presentation of the content at Book Club next week.  I volunteered as I thought it was about the Geechee/Gullah women near Charleston, SC, who weave baskets and sell them along the roadsides across the river near Charleston.  However, it is written by Robin Wall Kimmerer who is a Native American from Minnesota and after reading the first chapter which is long and tedious, I'm not looking forward to finishing or preparing a presentation and discussion of this book.  Someone must have liked it as all the books are chosen by a committee of readers.  The alternate title is Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teaching of the Plants.

However, I must get to work.  I've read the first chapter.  The book is 387 pages of small print and has an extensive notes, sources, and acknowledgements.  Whew!

Have a beautiful day, Buddies.  I hope you're relaxing, having nice weather, and FUN!

Jane.  That was a cute one.  So true in Texas.  I have to not get involved with Politics with my Texas Group.  I just tell them I will stop listening if the get started.
They are still  even on and on about President Obama and its been 8 years.
And yes, they are on the opposite side as I am on the one now. I don't even bring them up on Facebook.  Does seem like all Texans think alike.

Voting should not be done on the computer from your home.  All the scamming and such that is so easy to do.  People in my town will pick a person up or even send some to your home to see how you can take care of your votes getting to the right place.   How are they going to do a recount if one of the people running complains.

It is really going to be a messy one this time.

In watching The Durrells in Corfu last night, I was struck by the fact that they are all saying "Durl" for the name.  They MUST have researched it, and it MUST be right.  But I remember so well, back a bazillion years ago, when Lawrence Durrell was all the rage, and I and all of my friends and relations were reading his Alexandria Quartet and arguing over what it all meant, we all said DURE-RELL, the rell rhyming with bell or well.  I mean, everyone did.  I guess that was back when instant communication did not rule.

I am still adoring A Place To Call Home.  I watch it on MPT2 on Saturday nights (channel 268 here) from 8:30 until 10:00, and then again on MPT (channel 22 here) Sunday afternoons from 3:30 until 5:00, when I can.  That way, I get to see it twice, but I have also ordered the DVDs of Seasons One through Three from Barnes & Noble.  I plan to give Debi Season One for Christmas.

Another beautiful day here on the bay.  Crisply cool this morning, but temps will rise during the day.  Tomorrow, Chip will take me over the bay to Chestertown to visit with son in law Greg.  He is experiencing a rough time recuperating from quadruple by pass surgery, but every day he gets just a little bit better.

Granddaughter Angela sits for a tough exam today, and my heart beats specially for her.  She is an actuary, and from time to time has to take exams to climb the ladder ever higher and higher until she can attain the maximum number of letters behind her name that indicate she has reached the ultimate goal for actuaries.  Or something like that.  It kind of sort of reminds me of great granddaughter Emily, who will finish her 5 years in architecture school this coming May.  She will then BE an architect, and have a masters degree, but cannot get a license until she has worked for a licensed architect for 7 years (that sounds downright Biblical!).  I guess it is an evolution of the old medieval guilds.

Have a great day, each of you dear Buddies.

SharonE

Hi Gals, I don't think I posted yesterday. John got home about 10:00 AM, so I decided not to go to church. There was no SS as they have a brunch during that time on the 5th Sunday of the month, if there is one.  John had a good tournament and earned 24 pts, a goodly amount for one tournament.

Jane, I had seen that ad on FB and doubled over laughing. I'd vote for him too!  We have our absentee ballots in the mail today, however I had to hold my nose when voting for President as I can't stand either of them. I had planned to write in a name until I found out that you can't do that in SC for the presidential choice.  Sue, I like your Mickey Mouse plan!

Joy, I'm also amazed that you can vote on line. It just doesn't sound secure to me, but I know it is a big advantage for those who can't or don't want to go to the polls.  Very helpful for those who work and probably cuts down on the lines at the polls.

Sue, from the title of the book, I would have expected something on the gullahs also.  Sounds like you have a lot of reading or skimming to do before tomorrow.

Jeanne, it just doesn't pay to argue with people on the other political side, I agree.  My daughters are much too liberal in my opinion, so we just don't discuss it.

My cleaning girl is here today and then the HVAC people are coming this afternoon to check out the system.

Has anyone read "The Girl On the Train"?  IMO, it is awful. I finished it, but it was anything but entertaining. I can't imagine their making a movie of it. The themes of the book seem to be alcoholism, adultery, domestic abuse, and murder.  If any of you have a different opinion, please explain why. It was on the NY Best Seller List, but I can't fathom why.

Have a good day.  Sharon

MaryPage

I read the reviews of that book, Sharon, and searched for more on line, including spoilers as to "who done it."  I decided it was yet another piece of modern popular fiction that was too raunchy and sick for my sensibilities.

I have been a long time admirer of Hillary Clinton.  Did not say so previously, as I hate it when we get political, but I have to admit to being dazed and amazed at the collective hatred of her, as I have followed her for many decades now, and have been proud of her progress and good deeds.  The misogynistic side of our so called civilization has fought tooth and nail from the git go to bring her down.  I have been told there are even web sites listing the dozens upon dozens of people she has supposedly murdered or had murdered!  "I just don't trust her" has been the whispered and written password, traveling like waves across our fields and rivers.  I would beg anyone who feels uncertain to read up on her REAL, and not her propagandized by her enemies, biography.  She has lived by that old Methodist creed: “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.”  But she refuses to wear her religion on her sleeve.  Integrity Big Time is what I see.  But then, we all have different thinking prescriptions in the things our minds perceive.  Like snowflakes, we are no two of us exactly the same, and that is a Good Thing.

The thing I hate about politics is the infighting, propaganda, and the one-upmanship. And that's the voters. It is a golden rule not to discuss money, politics or religion, although I do in certain arenas. I value my friends over a broad spectrum and would hate to lose that over one of those three.

One woman was arrested recently for voting twice for her candidate. Her reason was they were told the election would be rigged so she voted in two different polling sites. That is just sad we have come to this.

I am lucky that my polling place is in our building's lobby.

Good Morning,.  We had something almost terrible happen yesterday to our Harry cat. He is the one I saved from being put down because he has Leukemia. Well yesterday late afternoon he was sitting on the planter outside the bay window, Keith saw  a male either teen or young adult walking across the lawn to the planter where Harry was sitting. Keith  got close to the window athe person saw him and took off, then Keith went out and brought Harry into the house. We are not letting any of the 3 cats out today, We will shut them up in the bedroom with one of the litter boxes and keep them there until the trick or treater's have all left and it is bedtime.

This afternoon freckles and I are participating with the other furry friends in a Halloween show.program at one of the Residential Facilities. We will be in costume, Freckles in her Frog costume and I am going as a Cowgirl, All I am adding to my attire is a western shirt and a straw cowboy hat. Someone will be taking pictures and I hope to get some of them.

MaryPage

I don't see how that can be true, Jeanne.  You are assigned ONE and only one polling place where you can vote.  And the poll workers have a book with all of the names of the voters registered for that precinct.  Therefore, a person cannot vote in any but that ONE PLACE, and when their name is crossed off as having voted, that goes into the WHOLE SYSTEM.

I know it absolutely cannot be done here in Maryland.  Unless the woman went to another precinct with information for another voter and voted for that person.  Totally illegal, and doubtful she could get away with it, but I suppose it could be done.

Otherwise, I swear to you and all mankind, no one can vote TWICE in this state!  They just flat out cannot.

A Des Moines, Iowa woman who was apparently very angry that the election polls are rigged against Donald Trump decided the best course of action would be to illegally vote twice for the Republican in next month's election!
Terri Rote was charged with Election Misconduct, which is a class D felony, after authorities allege she voted twice for The Donald this week.

"I wasn't planning on doing it twice, it was spur of the moment. The polls are rigged."'
