Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Sunday morning and Daylight Savings Time!

It seems it comes earlier each year, and I don't know why they change it.  The old "for the farmers milking" is no longer valid and hasn't been for years.  The big dairy farms have, in some cases, 24 hr milking and many now have automated revolving platforms the cows step onto.

Marilyn....hope the throat is better.

Mary...good to have the virus off the computer.

Jeanne...technology seems really messed up at your house.  Comcast seems to cause you a lot of problems.

Sharon...hope you're feeling better

Bubble....hi to you!

Cold here still and a winter snow storm predicted for this afternoon into tomorrow.  We're probably going to just be watching basketball and doing some cooking.

Lots of colds and flu around here...nursing home has restricted visitors for 10 days...so many sick out there.

Jane

maryz

Jeanne, I've seen the ads for that movie - should be interesting.

We had some sleet last night, and then a pitiful amount of snow overnight - just enough to cover my deck, and it's almost all gone now, with the sunshine and warmer temps.  Weekly laundry is done, and paper read.  I napped through CBS Sunday Morning, but I always record it (just in case that happens).  So I can watch it this afternoon.   :)
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Jeanne, I've read about the movie too. Sounds interesting.

Marilyn, how did your solo go?  Voice all better now?

Jane, yes, I'm feeling better. I had soup for dinner with tea and crackers and that seemed to settle it. Apparently nothing serious.

Mary, had to laugh at your taping your show in case you fell asleep during it. Glad to know someone else does that, except mine is usually the evening news.

We got about 2" of very wet snow, but it melted as soon as it hit any pavement, so driving to church wasn't bad. It had stopped snowing by the time we got out.  The trees were all so pretty with the snow on them, especially the redbuds where you could see the pink peeping through.  When we got home, all the snow was off of the trees in our back garden. Still some on the lawn, but not much. I should be gone by nightfall. I'm sure it didn't do any good to the spring flowers!

I put out a container of beef & noodles to have for dinner tonight. Just sounded good!  I have one load in the washer and another to put in, but that's all I'm going to do constructive today!  Sharon

JeanneP

snowing hard here today. Maybe one that will need shoveling later. Think will just relax, read and watch movies.
Noticed it was still dark at 7am. That is bad as we have school buses picking up the first children at that time. Awful on these cold mornings. They should not make that time change until later in the spring.y

We had 6-7 inches overnight.  Kid next door hadn't appeared by 10:00 (no school today), so Ray and I got out.  I shoveled the front work while he got the snow blower going.  We both worked on the lower driveway where the snowplow put up a heavy, icy mix.  We got that finished when Caleb appeared, and he did the rest of the driveway. He did apologize.

We had a guy coming to measure our countertops so needed things cleared.  Snow now shoveled is melting, but it's to be cold overnight, so places will refreeze.

Jane

maryz

jane, yuck!  Especially on having to do some of your own shoveling.

Jeanne, glad you didn't get any snow.

Marilyn, thanks again for trying to set me straight on the medications.  I called the doctor's office this morning and I had totally misunderstood what I was told.  My brain usually hears better than that.  Anyhow, I'm supposed to use the Anoro puffer daily with the Proventil as a rescue.  My Rx provider is supposed to have the Anoro in the mail, but I hadn't heard anything about the Proventil.  The med office was going to check on it.  But then I got a letter today from ExpressScripts telling me that Proventil is not on my formulary, so I don't know what will come from that.  I've called the doc's office again to let them know that information.  Sighhhh

It's chilly today and overcast, but no precipitation - at least not yet.  I went to swimming this morning, and will be going to bridge tonight, but that's it for the day.

Hi to all the Buddies!
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

I've been to my therapist this morning. She recommended deep breathing several times a day to relieve the stress of the pain. I'll try it.

I also went to computer club. It was about getting rid of cable and using streaming via computer or add-ons like Roku or Hulu.  I decided that though our set up is expensive, we're better off staying with cable. John's TV isn't a smart one and if it all sounds pretty complicated to me, I think it would be impossible for him. He just isn't into technology.

Tonight is the church book club. We're just organizing tonight and will be reading THE CREED by Adam Hamilton for our first book.  It is essentially an explanation and expansion of the Apostle's Creed.  I've read about 50 pages so far.  Not a fast read.

Mary, it's raining lightly here and about 40 degrees. Good luck with your ventilators, etc. I hope they are really helpful to you. When I went in for an evaluation, the pulmonologist said my lung capacity, etc. was okay even though I am somewhat short of breath. She gave me some ventilators to try, but I couldn't tell they helped me  Have fun at bridge.

Jane, you & Ray should have called the boy to come get you shoveled. There is no way either of you ought to be doing that now!  What kind of countertops are you putting in?

Jeanne, Lori said they are really getting snowed in in Chicago. Surprised you aren't getting some too.

Hi to Darlene, Marilyn, JOy, Sue, Ginny and anyone else who comes in.  Ginny, we haven't heard from you in quite a while.  Sharon

jane

Sharon.....I'm not sure on the countertops....man who owns the store came to measure...he suggestd against granite in this old house because of the veins of granite cracking...and said Quartz is about 3 to 4 times more than laminate.  So...we'll see when we go down to look at patterns.   He said they've had granite crack while delivering a countertop!

Mail people here returned one of our 1099s as "may have changed address."  They deliverd all the others, so I need to go to PO and find out what the heck they were doing and why!

Grrrrr!

Hi ..this has not been a good day for me.....this morning my Mr Coffee...quit on me..would not brew...had to drag out my back up...got to have a cup of coffee first thing...I had purchased replacement insurance for it for two dollars...glad I did....they are sending me a free one..I think I will change brands on my next one I have to buy...I like the programmable ones...also there was an outage...so without internet for a few hours....don't know reason for that..sun is out and about 70 degrees here...hope everyone else's day has been better..Darlene

Marilyn

The singing went Yesterday. However overnight my throat is all scratchy and was hoarse when I got up this morning. There is a cold around here that is trying to catch me but I am hoping to out run that sucker with cough drops  Comtrex andn lots of prayer. It isn't my cold and I don't want it.

I've had a clumsy couple of days. I hit my head on the corner of the cupboard Saturday, and scraped my shoulder on the top corner of Keith's computer desk when I kind of lost my balance. then today I scraped the corner of the bathroom door over my toes, good thing I had shoes on.

Tim picked me up at 11:00 and took me to Laredo's where Kris met us for lunch.  Since it was my birthday lunch 2 days early I had a small Margarita, Kris had a frozen margarita and Tim had a Corona beer.  I did have my usual 2 tacos, rice, and beans.  My birthday is not until Wednesday, (the Ides of March--the 15th) and I will be 80 years old!  I don't want to think I'm that old.

At 2:45, a friend picked me up for book club.  We had a guest speaker, Chad Gibbs, who writes funny stories about sports, his kids, travel, etc.  It was interesting and sometimes funny.  He stays home with the boys and his wife is a pediatrician who works in an office.
Next month we're reading/discussing The Boys in the Boat about American young men who participated in the Berlin Olympics.  I have my copy already, but haven't started reading it.

I'm off to bed shortly.  My cleaning ladies are supposed to be here by 9:00 and Bonney will pick me up for Circle Meeting about 9:15.  I need to get the cleaning ladies check ready and I'm trying to straighten things up before going to bed, so they can get everything dusted, etc.

Sleep well, Buddies.
Sue

Ouch, Marilyn - and I hope you outrun that cold.

Happy Early Birthday, Sue! Glad you had a good lunch.

There's a cold rain tonight - ugh! And I was out driving in it.  Double-ugh!  Duplicate again tonight.  As usual, my partner and I sat N/S, and out of 20 hands, I think we bid on maybe four of them.  I know all N/S couples play the same cards, but it's still not much fun when you don't ever get to bid, much less play.  I keep saying next time will be better.  But home safe and snug and ready for the late news and bedtime.

Sleep well, Buddies!

We finely got our share of the snow. Stil. Coming down. Hope it warms up a little to help move it.
Coming down with a cold and so not going out.

Marilyn...hope you can outrun the cold.

Jeanne...looks like you weren't running fast enough to miss it.

Mary...ugh on driving weather.

Sue..Happy 80th Birthday a day early...and lunch sounds enjoyable with Tim and Kris.

Darlene...good to have replacement on the way.  I don't think any of them last very long anymore...whether it's a cheap one or an expensive one.  The programmables are nice.

Sharon...hope the deep breathing helps.  Next week you get the pain gizmo?

Trying to find an electrician...they're hard to get here.  One we had and was so good says he can't make it as a single electrician with the costs of liability insurance, health insurance for his family, etc., so he quit and works for someone else (not doing electrical).  Now to find someone..Ray's called...one number in phone book has no answer and no answering maching; he left a message on another...no response so far.

Cold here...22 now and to go to single digits tonight, I guess, so not much snow melting.  I'm glad we got it all off our walks and driveway...and the roads are clear, of course.  However, shoulders and chest muscles are sore from the shoveling, of course!

Ray's gone to do the grocery shopping.  I made a veg soup last night and all those veggies...and esp. the cabbage are doing a number on me, this morning!   :2funny:

Jane. I am chewing on the tums also this morning.  All this talk about eating lots of Fruit, Veg.and grains. Think about ready to give it up.
I bough Orange juice again and also trying Coconut milk.  Both bothering me big time. Going back to regular milk today and use the orange juice in cooking.

We had rain all day yesterday + low temps. Today is cloudy and cold.  Yuck.  Supposed to be in 60's by weekend.  Thank goodness.

Marilyn, hope you can escape the cold. I swear by Coldeeze lozenges.  Try to slow down and do things more deliberately and maybe you will save yourself some bruises.  I always go at things too fast and end up with bumps and bruises too.

Mary, bummer on the cards. I hate games like that.  I also agree on the weather!

Jane, what about sealed wood countertops?  If I had it to do today, I would put in the quartz, but I know they are expensive. We have granite and it's okay, but I don't have the problems you do.  The soup sounds good. Bummer on the tax forms!

My procedure is this Friday, the 17th.  I'm wearing green and hoping for some good Irish lluck for success from it!

I slept in today. I was so tired from all the activity yesterday plus not sleeping till 2:30 the night before.

Darlene, we have a programmable Mr Coffee and have had it about 3 yrs, I think. We like it. We had had 2 or 3 of the coffeemakers that grind the beans right before brewing. While the coffee was great, none of them lasted much over a year, so we went to the Mr Coffee.  I don't drink coffee anymore because of the caffeine and its effect on my tremor, but John would die without his!

Jeanne, you're wise to stay in.

Happy early birthday, Sue!  80 is a big one!  Not far in my future either.  Glad you had a nice lunch with Tim & Kris.

I'm not doing a lot today. Sharon

maryz

Just to chime in on the coffeepot discussion.  At the house, we had a Mr. Coffee (or comparable brand) with a clock/timer.  They're not expensive, and I never expected one to last more than 3-4 years. I never got any kind of warranty.  John and I both drank coffee, and sipped almost all day long.  When I moved and it was just me, Jean suggested I get a Keurig.  I got one that is one-cup-at-a-time (no water reservoir).  Now I make usually 2-3 cups a day, and it's great for me.  The coffee pods cost more, and I hate using all those little plastic pots.  But you can get a refillable thing-y and do your own.  I tried that, but decided it was just too much trouble.  So that's one of my luxuries.

Ray makes his coffee one cup at a time with one of those glass and stainless cone things....got it at Target.  I have 't drunk coffee in years now...too acid for my stomach and not as calming to me as my tea.

I took some Beano and that settled down my digestive track quite a bit.

I've been sorting papers and filing and talked to one Fund we're having moved into an Edward Jones account at the Fund's request.  Apparently whoever we bought it from is out of business and switched it back to the head office, and they send me letters every so often to please consider moving to a brokerage.  So, we did, and it's all set.  It's their tax form someone at the PO sent back!

Good Evening, Buddies.  I've been reading and watching basketball games--men's tonight.  I'm going to bed soon, though, to read a bit and early lights out.  Tomorrow is my actual birthday and Bonney will pick me up about noon to take me to Brick Oven for our favorite veggie pizza and probably a beer.  I've had birthday cards from sister Linda, brother Jeff and wife Karen, and Charlie, which was a surprise.  I haven't heard from him for quite a while--and he even remembered that this is my 80th.  I had one from Bill's first wife yesterday.  We've remained good friends.

My cleaning crew was late this morning and I left a key on my table plus their check at 9:20 as Bonney and Jean were waiting to take me to my Circle meeting.  We had about 14 members there and good brunch items plus an interesting presentation led by a member who'd never presented a lesson.  I had picked up last years lesson book by accident, so wasn't able to check it out during the discussion, but have looked at it this evening.  She did a good job.

I've been watching basketball (men's) for a while this evening, but am giving it up and going to bed to read for a while.  It's pretty cold here tonight--my furnace has been running most of the evening.  When I walked around the 3 blocks of my neighborhood about 4:00 this afternoon, it was really chilly out there.  We've had a really mild winter and this is really the first wintry day of the year.

I hope all are well.  Has anyone heard from GinnyAnn?

Sleep well, Buddies.

Wednesday is usually a swim day. But I got a surprise after I was dressed and went to put up the bird feeders on my deck.  It was 24* and there was a light dusting of snow on the deck.  I checked the TV, and the schools are delayed opening, and some slick spots on the roads.  I know it wasn't much, and I probably wouldn't have had any problems.  But, at my age (81 tomorrow - Happy Birthday today, Sue), I don't need to be out on any chancy roads in the dark on these hills.  So no swim today.  Who knows what the rest of the day will bring.

Good Morning Ladies/Buddies. This morning I will be taking Keith to the Eye Dr. for the Glaucoma testing. It is raining here but that is nothing new for Oregon. At least  the streets are not icy which concerns Mary about her streets this morning. Best to stay at home Mary.

Jeanne and Jane  how deep is the snow where you are? I have been seeing the awful storms going on from the Midwest East.

I got a card from my Medigap insurance that I need to attend an Orientation Meeting that is 90 minutes long next week. I just hope my rate doesn't go up with them bill that they are trying to pass in DC. I saw that the seniors may have to pay 750% more than they are now I do hope that doesn't happen. I like this plan that pays My chiropractor  and the Silver and Fit program too.

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  Mary, you beat me to the birthday greetings--but I'll be wishing you a Happy 81st again tomorrow.  Yes, I'm the big 80 today--and happy to be that and walking around on my own.  If I could just drive myself, I'd be in hog heaven.  Bonney is coming by when she finishes her Wednesday morning bridge to take me to Brick Oven for a pizza and probably a beer.  We usually go there about 6:00 in the evening, but she is trying not to drive much after 5:00 in the afternoon.   I've just showered, shampooed, and dressed and am ready to go.  I've done a load of laundry and that's going to be it for today.  I still need to finish today's crossword puzzle, but think I can get that done before time to go out.

Marilyn, I hope the Glaucoma testing for Keith goes well.  I'm not sure what, if any, treatment will be for that.  I know you've been worried about his eye sight for a while.

It's very chilly here today, but no snow.  Last year we did have about an hour of snow in March and all my neighbors went outside and made a snow man--no larger than 6-8 inches tall.  I got a kick out of that, remembering the 4-5 feet of snow we'd get in Maine every time it snowed!

I hope you all have a nice day with no weather worries.  The news last night about the North East looked awful.

Sue

maryz

Marilyn, I hope Keith's eye exam goes well.  I have early glaucoma, but it's not caused any problems (so far), and is being treated with twice daily eye drops.  I hope it he has it, it's no more than that.

Happy Birthday, Mary.  I hope you have a great one!

Not much going on here today.  It's pretty chilly, but after I got my morning chores done, I walked around the block bundled up like an Eskimo!  I'm glad to get that out of the way.

I'm hoping Tim comes by today, but he probably won't.  He stopped in yesterday to bring me some chocolates and chat for a bit.  He was pretty depressed by the news that the newly revised insurance is going to push his up to EXTREMES!  I'd like to give him some help with that and he certainly deserves some pay back for all he's done for me this past year.

Take care, Buddies.  Have a nice day, too.
Sue
