Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

I just like to go to craft shows just to see the clever things people make. Come home thinking how come I didn't think of making that. Like you, never buy as my house is so full of things I need to have a big sale myself.
Still 90s here and I am so tired of it. Feeling awful from just sitting doing nothing in the house. Need to get out and walk but to hot to do that. Came home feeling sick from the heat again the other day.

I think some of the fires are still burning but not much is said on the news lately with the hurricanes and the earthquakes in Mexico.
We are having decent weather here on the coast no smoke here.
Good afternoon ladies, I have been on the run today and I am so tired. I had Keith rub my feet for me and that part feels somewhat better. We had tires installed on my car this morning and they messed up the check by putting in the wrong amount. So we had to come back home to get another check. We had done our grocery shopping while the tires were being put on so back we go with the other check, Come home unloaded and put away the groceries. rushed out to the Fire Department to take part in the disaster Awareness program representing Furry Friends. After 1 pm when I got home, fixed lunch for Keith ( I ate at the FD) took freckles for her first walk of the day. Keith hadn't even taken her out to pee. So here I am now. Tired Mama.to say the least.

maryz

Whew, Marilyn - that's enough to make any of us need a nap!   ;D

HOT Sunday greetings!  Already above 90...and that thermometer is in the shade!  WHEW...

An inside day...more use of the crockpot.  We used it last night for meatballs and gravy. Today it's stuffed peppers for later today.

I had the best night's sleep last night I've had in ages.  No getting up from 10:00 pm until about 6:30 am. That's a record for me.

I did finish a second purple baby had last night, so I'll put those in a bag to give to the gal who's the liaison with the hospital for the hats.  I have some more purple yarn, and I'll work on more, but, I have those two ready to go and may have a lavender one upstairs I can add to the bag.

http://www.ravelry.com/projects/janeiowa/purple-baby-hats

I'll work on the others for next year when it's cooler and I don't feel a deadline.

Have a safe and cool Sunday.

Marilyn, so glad the smoke is gone!  Good grief, girl, take a break and rest. I get tired just from reading all you do!! :)

Jane, I think it is wonderful that you knit all the hats for the babies. I know they are greatly appreciated. I'm just not skilled like that.

Been to SS & church and lost a favorite gold earring. I'm hoping it will be turned into L & F at the church. I will call first thing in the morning.

BTW, I saw a black-throated blue warbler a couple days ago on my feeder. I had to go online to the Carolina Birders to find out what it was, but when they suggested this, I looked it up in my bird book and sure enough. I'd never seen one before.  Small teal colored bird with a black head, throat and white stomach.  Pretty.

I need to get busy and set up my Amazon Echo. I just have been putting it off.

Hot here too. I'm ready for some Fall weather!  Hi to everyone I didn't mention.  Sharon

Cottoncandy

Yes..Marlyin...what vitamins do u take to have that much energy..lol...Hope everyone's having a great Sunday...our church has singing at the nursing home here today..so time for me to get ready to go...I enjoy helping with that ministry....Hot here again today...Darlene

maryz

Sharon, how exciting to see a "new" bird.  I've not heard of that one before.  I didn't put out my hummingbird feeders this morning.  I think the hummers are about gone for this year.  Plus the feeders have been covered up with honeybees.  I know they're important, but I really don't want them swarming around my deck.  ;)

The heat has been awful in a lot of places.  We're not supposed to be having highs in the 70s until the end of the week.

Just hearing about the shooting in Nashville and the breaking of the dam in Puerto Rico.  Terrible stuff!

I did the usual SS and church this morning.  Olyne picked me up and brought me home.  I fixed and ate lunch, had a lie down with a good book for an hour and a half, got up and took some oatmeal cookies to a neighbor who is no longer able to drive and has lots of physical problems.  We had a nice visit and then I came home and read more of the book.  I'll probably finish it tonight if the TCM 7:00 movie is not one I want to watch.

It's quite warm here today, but not unbearable.  I've put out the used newspapers and small cardboard boxes in their containers on the curb, but will have to take my trash can down to the curb after I eat my left overs supper.

I hope all are feeling well and have had a nice weekend.
Sue

SharonE

Good morning, Gals.  It is to be another hot one here today too. Like Mary will cool down on Friday--if we're lucky.

Darlene, what a nice ministry. They say Alzheimer patients particularly respond to music.  Wish I could sing or play, but that wasn't one of the gifts God gave me.  My mother and older daughter had good voices, but it skipped me.

Sue, I"m sure your elderly neighbor appreciated the cookies.  Ms Frances didn't care for sweets, so I took her some of my extra soup or casseroles.  I finished a mystery last night also. I had some programs taped, but wanted to finish my book.

Mary, I understand your bringing your feeder in if it was attracting honey bees.  Fortunately, I have some red pentas and some yellow bell petunias that are really doing well right now, so I have seen a couple hummers around them. They are also still coming to John's feeder out front.  They will be gone around the first of October though. I think the males are already gone.  Yes, I was excited to see a new bird. Since my feeder is out from my kitchen window, I'm sure I miss a lot of birds. I'm just not in there that much.  Our purple lantana is going nuts out in the front of our back garden, so it is attracting a lot of butterflies and some hummers.

I'm going to the library shortly to see if I can request the new church book club book, Torn. It's not available in our county, but they ccan do a state search.  If not, guess I'll have to buy it.  I hate to pay for books because I always donate them afterwards. We just don't have a lot of space to keep them.

Hi to everyone.  Sharon

jane

Monday greetings, Buddies,
It was in the mid 70s this morning, so I tried a walk...didn't get the full mile in...just too humid to breathe easily, so I turned around at the Library and headed back home. Ray went golfing, but is home and says it wasn't comfortable out there either. The rain and lightning are going around us again.

I think this afternoon, I'll go through my closet upstairs and sort some things out. It's to be in the 50s beginning tomorrow, so it's a good time to start.

jane

GinnyAnn

Hot here today also. Need to store it up for the winter days ahead. Ray is about to head out to the grocery store to pick up some sale items. Wish I could push out the depression I am in. Taking meds for it but...

SCFSue

The insurance adjuster came this morning and took more pictures.  I don't know if or when he'll be returning.  Tim had e-mailed lots of pictures to USAA immediately after the storm.  I don't know if Tim got here in time while the men were cutting the tree down to get those pictures.  When we get a report or some action, I'll let you know.  I'm the only person in my neighborhood to have damage.  My electricity didn't go off as I'm on a different electrical thingie than the people which are all west of me on our street.  So I guess that was an OK thing.

My bad luck has continued, today, though.  I stirred up a batch of my never fail Swedish oatmeal cookies and they are a FLOP!  Stuck to the baking sheets, spread out too far, and every other bad thing that could happen.  I have had two cookie sheets soaking for about 2 hours and they are still stuck!  I may have to buy new cookie sheets.  The only thing different is that I used flour from a new bag and also opened a new box of baking powder. I've been making these Swedish Oatmeal Cookies for about 50 years and have never had a failure!

I have to go to Azalea Place tomorrow at 11:00 for lunch and bridge.  My cleaning ladies are coming in the morning at 9:00.  I'll have to get up earlier than usual so I can shower before they get here.

I hope today has been good for you all.
Sue

maryz

Always good to hear from you, Ginny Ann - but so sorry about your continued depression.  Are you getting any professional help and/or medication for it?  I hope so.  Lots of hugs going your way.

Sue, sorry about your cookies.  I know it's annoying, too.  Maybe it's time for some new cookie sheets in any case.   ;)

I'm sorry we're all having the continued heat - especially you folks who aren't used to having it.  I'll definitely be glad to some cooler temps this weekend.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

Still into the 90s. My energy is now going. I think maybe staying in the house more and just sitting or laying around causing it.  Really bored. Can't get started on cleaning anything.  But today went to get blood taken for my yearly physical and mentioned to the lady who runs the lab about trying to find a housecleaner. So many things I need to stop doing. She said would check but would really be interested in doing it herself and the lab is just open from 7:30 t0 12:30 5 days a week and she could use more income. Hope that works out. Get lots of thing out of the cabinets etc.

Jane , It wouldn't let me open that site to see the baby hats. Have to be a member. Bet they are cute.  I have a whole box full of yarn that I need to get rid of.  Doubt I do much crochet anymore. Made all the afghans, Baby outfits and other things that anyone needs.  Babies all grown up now.. Lot of it is Lavender and white, yellow . blue .  Will be someone who can use it.

Our heat wave has broken and we've had some rain, finally.

I hope we get some more rain, but it may be headed north of us...again.

Happy Tuesday, Buddies, as Sept. winds down.

maryz

jane, it's always good to see your cheery posts first thing in the morning.  :smitten:  Glad you've gotten some cooler weather.  Not here, yet.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Or here, Mary.  We are really drying out too. Haven't had any rain for sometime.  Jane, glad you got some and that things have cooled down for you.

Ginny, good to see your post.  Everything I see or hear about depression recommends getting out and doing something, especially with friends.  My daughter is always on me about it too. When you hurt and are down, it's easier to sit and read or play at the computer, but that really works against you.  Do as I say, not as I typically do!

Sue, sorry about the cookies.  Try soaking your sheets in soda water with a Bounce sheet added to loosen all the gunk. It does work.  Of course, by now you may have gotten them clean or bought some new ones.  I like those that have an airpocket between 2 sheets of aluminum to prevent burning.  A silicon sheet on an old sheet works too.

I have bridge tomorrow and an appt with the neurologist. The latter, I think, is unnecessary but they called and told me I had it.??????

Found out Nancy (Frances' daughter) and her husband are going to move into Frances' house for up to a year. They just sold their CT house and are in the middle of painting and doing someing needed reno to F's house.  They are planning to build in Williamsburg but don't have plans or a builder yet.  It suddenly occurred to them that this was the cheapest way to go since they already owned it while they waited on things in VA.

Nothing else going on here. Hope you all are enjoying or tolerating the last hot days of summer.  Sharon

jane

My baking tip to keep the cookie sheets clean is to use parchment paper.  Easy cleanup...and most grocery stores sell it now in rolls like saran wrap or wax paper...even here in rural Iowa! :coolsmiley:

I've got half the laundry finished, the kitchen floor mopped, the counter cleaned off and wiped down and the throw rugs shaken out.  That sounds like enough work for today for me!   :smiley6600:

Ray's gone target shooting with a guy here in town, so they're in CR shooting away at a range.

I'm off to read some more while dryer load finishes up.

Marilyn

Good afternoon, Ladies, For once I am not busy today, I did get plenty done yesterday. Just taking it easy today but still getting in my walks with freckles. I bathed her with the dry shampoo a little while ago to get her cleaned up for our Cancer center visit tomorrow.

jane

Marilyn....good for you to have a relaxing day!!

SCFSue

I went out to lunch today with my once a month bridge club at Azalea Place, a retirement residence.  Two of my neighbors and I play there on the 4th Tuesday.  We eat lunch at 11:00 (although the new management doesn't have enough cooks or waitresses to start us on time--they are really scraping on salaries and the really good cook quit!)  Our poor waitress today had to wait on our two tables (taking orders and bringing out the food) plus an elderly couple came into the visitor's dining room with a married couple who appeared to be their son and daughter in-law.  Before Glenda quit, we had wonderful service and excellent food.  Now it's just so-so.  I think some of the oldest members are looking for another place to play that will also serve lunch.

I put more oatmeal into my cookie dough and tried to bake more cookies after bridge.  It didn't help--and I can't figure out why.  I've been making those cookies successfully for at least 50 years!

I have a Garden Club officer's meeting here in the morning at 9:30 to discuss programs and other plans for the end of this year and after the Christmas holidays.  AND have to host the Wednesday bridge club at 1:00.  I will be pooped at the end of the day!

I hope you have a lovely evening and a happy tomorrow.
Sue

Only time my cookies were bad. Came out like one big glob. Found I had pup 4 times the sugar into them.  Use to make some big mistakes years ago until I got into using the US Measurment when using my UK books.

Got to see my show.  This is Us.  New season tonight.

Sue...and Mary...and other College Basketball Fans....it looks like all the shading dealings are going to come out...and big time.  The sports announcers are saying many more schools to be names, incl. Louisville, Univ. of SC, etc.  It'll be interesting to see if UNC, Duke, Syracuse, Kansas, Memphis, etc. are also named.  I wonder if college football will be next.

Beautifully cool morning here...I need to get a walk in and then get ready for lunch and bridge with the ladies.

Cottoncandy

Steady rain here....managed to get my walk in...between showers...here's wishing everyone a good day...I like to bake when it's raining...so that's my agenda for today Darlene

alpiner1

I had the MRI last Thursday & was told the dr. would get the result in 4 days , don't know if that is 4 business days or not . I'm waiting for the dr. to call about surgery date for lumpectomy . My nerves are on edge , would like to get it over with . Husband has been a dear !!

maryz

alpiner - the waiting is ALWAYS the worst part.  We can deal with almost anything as long as we know what it is.  :smitten:

jane, I see this morning that Pitino (U of L'ville) has been "put on administrative leave" (i.e. fired) - and that's no surprise.  I was surprised about the Asst. coach at Sue's Auburn.  The head coach there has been disciplined by the NCAA before, and I thought he'd be on the straight and narrow.  Fortunately (maybe) there's not enough money in the women's programs to affect them that much.  Too bad that money rules so much.

Marilyn, glad you're getting an easy day every once in a while.

Only big news from here is getting my mani/pedi - always makes for a good day for me.  We're on track to break a heat record for this date today (92*) before the cool-down over the weekend.

"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

I played bridge and ate lunch with the girls at the golf club. I do not like their new lunch menu. I had a veggie wrap which was tasty but drippy.  I had one of those days where my partner and I seldom synced.  I'd have a good hand and bid and my partner would pass with 1-5 pts.  You just can't do much with cards like that.  I had a couple good hands but only came in 2nd from the bottom, I think.  Yuck!

I have to go to see my neurologist's at 4:45, but it is close by.

I spent a bunch of time working on the Amazon Echo yesterday and  never did get it set up. Lori and I are going to Skype or something and she will try to lead me through it.  I got so frustrated with it.

Marilyn, I'm glad you're relaxing for a change.

Jane, you've been working hard, so now you can relax too.

Sue, you do have a busy day. Take it easy after the last meeting.Have you double checked your recipe for your cookies?  That is really odd for something you've made for years.

Alpiner, I hope you hear and get your surgery date soon. They usually don't procrastinate with cancer

Darlene, send some of that rain this direction.

Hi Mary, Ginny, Joy, Jeanne, and anyone else who pops in.  Sharon

Marilyn

Just got back from the cancer center visiting the people in the Chemo and waiting rooms. They sure love the dogs there.

jane

Marilyn...I thought you might be interested in this about therapy dogs vs service dogs.  Big brouhaha in a small town north of me over a Pit Bull.  The town does not allow Pit Bulls in the city limits.  A woman moved in and has a Pit Bull which she said was a therapy dog...needed for emotional support.  City attorney said that therapy dogs are not covered by the ADA and so she was in violation of the law. She's now come back and said her dog has had special training and is now a Service Dog.  City Attorney says dog still doesn't meet the ADA guidelines that a service dog has to do things that the person cannot do, and they're off to court.

Bridge here was so-so...came in 3rd of 7.

Mary....I think, from what I heard on a sports channel that there is a LOT more stuff to come down.  Bruce Pearl, the men's head at Auburn was in Iowa under one of our coaches and got into some difficulty.  Then he was some other places, then at TN, and got into trouble there, so it's hard to know. The sports guy said a lot of basketball coaches are VERY nervous tonight.

maryz

Yes, jane - Bruce Pearl was the one I was talking about.  Stay tuned...
