Good morning, Buddies.  I'm still piddling around in my P.J.'s.  I woke up at the usual 7:00, but am still in P. J.s.  I'm going to trim the scraggly ends of my hair and shower when I finish my e-mails.  I'll try to get a walk in before it rains again.  I've probably mentioned that my rain gauge was broken during a particularly cold night during the winter, so I  don't know how much rain we had yesterday, but we got a lot because of the budding hurricane in the Gulf.  Our local weather man and gal have predicted more rain here today.

Jane, your Memorial Day dinner/lunch sounds yummy.  I enjoyed the ribs Tim and Kris brought over, too.  I had some fresh asparagus which I cooked briefly and it was good, too.  I can sympathize about the laundry.  I sure do a lot of wash for only one person in the house!

Sharon, you sure do a lot of laundry.  I don't do so much anymore as I wait for a load to at least be moderately full.  Now that summer is here, though, I am washing more often as working outside makes more frequent laundry loads!  I hope Milly's situation improves--thank goodness my daughters-in-law leave my situation to my sons.  All 3 wives are supportive, but my sons make the decisions if I need help.

Marilyn, I like your new short hair cut.  I've been keeping mine about that short since moving up here to Auburn.  Very convenient and since my hair is pretty thick, much easier to dry naturally than when it was longer.  Enjoy your trip to Sun River!

Alpiner, I am sorry about the headaches, backaches, and loss of appetite.  Have you called the doctor about the side effects of the medication?  Surely he/she can prescribe something that works better for you.  It's bad enough to have to take any meds, but one that causes all those symptoms is the PITS!  Keep us posted.

I'm still sitting here in my P.J.'s, so need to trim the back of my hair, shower and shampoo, and get to work.  My neighborhood is having a potluck dinner on Saturday afternoon and I'm thinking I'll make deviled eggs.  This is the third year they've had it, but I've never attended.  I was in the hospital the first year, still in the assisted living the second year, and have been home almost 2 years now, so will probably go if I get the deviled eggs made!

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Hi Gals.  My cleaning girl is here today, so I stripped the bed and put them in the washer.  When she heard the dryer stop, she took them out, but they were still a little damp, so she tried to start them back up and the dryer wouldn't start!  I don't know if the handyman dislodged the plug when he was cleaning it or what, so now I've got to get them out here to investigate.

Milly is back in the apartment with Don, but he is going to a nursing home on Thursday as he is too bad for Milly to take care of.  They want to put Milly there too, but will need approval from the medical staff.  We never know from one minute to the next what is going on there.

I posted pictures the kids took on FB on my page.  If you are on FB be sure to check them out.

Sue, I'm sure you will have no problems with care due to your sons, but Milly doesn't have any children to help.

Alpiner, I would make an appt and go in to see your doctor and discuss the med he prescribed.  I'm sure there is an alternative.

Marilyn

I am going to the dr this morning for my annual exam. I had the blood work done last week.

Keith got up at 4:45am to go outside an check on the old cat from next door who has been living under one of the Azalea  bushes under the family room window. He keeps wanting to bring her in the house but I worry that  the other cats will bother her too much.  When we go to Sunriver next week  the person who feeds our cats will be feeding her too. I feel so sorry for the old girl she has a huge mat on her back that is amlmost half the length of her back and  is raised up about 1.5 inches of solid matted fur.

Well it is about time for me to go.

maryz

Marilyn, I hope you get a good report from your annual exam.  I know you'll have a great time at Sun River.  Time away is almost always good.

alpiner, sorry you've not been doing well.  I've known folks who refused to take a medication because of the side effects.  I hope you and your doctor can come up with something that works for both of you.

jane, those temperatures are just oppressive for you.  They would be here, too, but at least we're used to them..  Hope you get something "seasonal" soon.

Sue, that hurricane just whipped through, but it was big and the rain bands have hung around.

Sharon, I hope something gets worked out quickly for John's family members.  That kind of stress is so tough - on all concerned.  How did your knees and eyes do on the trip?

Over the last few days, we had had about 1.34" of rain (in my gauge).  Then last night, we had a couple of lines of strong thunderstorms roar through - lots of lightning and thunder.  When I could check the gauge this morning, we had gotten nearly another 2", so over 3.5" total for this event so far.  And it's still cloudy all day today.  Well, at least my plants are very happy.

I have lab work tomorrow , then will set up an appt. with the cancer dr .

Cottoncandy

Hi everyone...looks like I haven't post anything for a few days....not much new with me ...very hot and humid..so I walk early..then under air conditioner...to hot to do much outside...I do have to schedule a colonoscopy some time next month....so not looking forward to that..I think at my age this is the last one I will agree to...I do have something exciting to look forward to in July...one of my gdaughter is getting married...I think it will be a late afternoon outside wedding....they are still planning....it will be fun....Hi to all reading..hope your weather is cooler than mine..Darlene

maryz

alpiner, good your docs are checking things out for you.

Darlene, congrats to your granddaughter.  Will the wedding be in Texas?  As I remember, late afternoon in July is not exactly the most comfortable time of day to be outside. I hope they've taken that into consideration.  In any case, it's a joyous occasion for sure.  I have two grandchildren getting married next year.

jane

Evening, Buddies,

Alpiner....I agree with the others...talk to your doc.

Marilyn....enjoy SunRiver.

Hi to Sharon, Sue, Mary, Darlene...

We had another quick shower this afternoon on my way home from bridge.  More heat and humidity tomorrow.

Jane

SharonE

Like yesterday, it is overcast with scattered showers predicted later, still low 80, but to be 90 for the next 2 days. I can do without that!  Sorry, Jane, that your temps are so high. Not good.

Mary, my rain gauge broke so I dont know how much we're getting.  Not too much is my guess.  Enough to keep the grass and flowers growing anyway. Wow, 2 weddings next year!  Will that be the last of the grandkids?

Darlene, I know you're looking forward to the wedding. So much fun when it's a granddaughter, especially.  Our grandson is getting married next May, so we have that to look forward to too.

John is feeling a little better today.  We should know something about his sister, etc. this evening.  I have no plans for today. House is clean, laundry is done, groceries are bought.  Nice to h,ave a free day.  Tomorrow the county inspector is coming to check out the AC installation, but nothing else.  Maybe I'll go in and get my nails done.

Marilyn, hope you get a good report from your doctor and that you have a wonderful time in Sun River. Too bad about the old cat.

I stayed up way too late last night finishing a David Baldacci novel.  The main characters were 2 retired military personnel--a male and female who'd both had lots of active duty in Iraq, Afghanistan and can't remember the third.  They were sent to the west to check on a person who was a big honcho in the military in D.C. and found lots of crime, mayhem, hippies, etc.  I read to the end and had a difficult time getting to sleep after that.

I'm planning on a quiet day.  It's hot outside and I will pull dead and dying gardenias off my gorgeous dwarf gardenias, but will do it in spurts and only when there is shade out there. I need to prepare my grocery list for tomorrow's lunch out with Tim, library visit, and Kroger shopping.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

maryz

Sharon, one of the weddings is in Savannah in late March, the other is in middle TN in midMay.  That just leaves one unmarried.  He and his lady are in a long-term relationship and have built a house together.  I don't have any clue as to whether they will eventually marry or not.  Doesn't matter any more (unless there are children, of course).  I hope something can be worked about with John's sister - and glad he's feeling better.

Sue, I love gardenias.  I remember when I grew up in Houston,  they were everywhere.  There were even hedges of cape jasmines (the larger version).

I woke up for good at 5 this morning.  I hate it when that happens, but I'm not going to lie in bed and flop around.  Nothing on the schedule today, except bridge here after dinner. So there a nap may happen this afternoon - we'll see.

Marilyn

My cholesterol was up from 186 last year to 209 this year. A1C was 5.7 she said that was pre diabetic but to change my diet alot less fat  and I should be down in 6 months when I go back. she is ordering a mammo, Dexa scan, and either an MRI or X rays of my left knee and hip. She seems to think that one of those is what is causing the knee and hip pain.

Mary the cat wakes me up almost every morning around 4-4:30 sometimes earlier. I keep telling Keith to keep that cat out of the bedroom, He knocks on the door, actually  is sticking is paw under the door and banging it. When that cat is not in the bedroom and is shut in the dining room with door to the hall  closed tight I sleep much better and don't wake up until 6 or so. That cat is the one Keith has had the longest and I do believe is his favorite.

I m so looking forward to Sunriver and no cats to wake me up. Freckles just waits until I get up to take her out to potty. She is going with us to Sunriver.

SharonE

Marilyn, I'm afraid either Keith or the cat would have to go if I were you!!   ;D   I value my sleep way too much to put up with an animal waking me.  Bunny sleeps in the den with the door closed and waits for John to get up and let her out and feed her. I'm sorry your #'s are up this time, but they aren't too bad.  Lots of tests to go through. Hope they show what's causing your pain.

Bunny  is sick--won't eat, dull eyes, tail down, and doesn't want to be messed with. I took her to the vet y testerday and they said s.he had a fever, was dehydrated and probably had an infection in the salivary gland.  They rehydrated her, gave her an antibiotic shot and she seems a little better.  At least she ate her breakfast, but she's still not well.

The nursing home said Milly wasn't bad enough for a nursing home, but did admit her husband. Milly is back in her apartment, but lonely. They still haven't given her her car back, so she is stranded. They did take her to the grocery, etc.  At least things are calm now.

Mary, the wedding in Savannah should be beautiful in March.  And TN should be pretty in May as well.  Enjoy your nap later and hope you have a good game tonight.

Sue, gardenias are so pretty and smell so good, but the deadheading is the pits!  We had a lot of them in HH.

No real plans today.  Sharon

Good morning, Buddies.  I'm dressed in comfy clothes, but presentable enough to go to either the Mexican joint or the sandwich/salad place for lunch.  So I'm all set for our Kroger shopping and library stop afterwards.

I need to get some more eggs as our neighborhood is having a neighborhood picnic tomorrow (if it doesn't get rained out).  I am making deviled eggs as my contribution.  The kids who started this neighborhood gathering 3 years ago are grilling hot dogs and everyone else will bring a side dish.  I hope the weather co-operates!  So far today, the sun is out.

Yesterday, Tim had trouble with his truck while out doing his usual weekend tour of yard sales.  He walked 2.5 miles to get over here to borrow my car so he could go to a parts store to get the part he needed to go get it.  Then after he got the part, he drove my car back home and walked the distance to the truck again.  I think he must have been pretty tired by the time he'd finished all his business.

Have a nice weekend, Every Buddy.
Sue

P.S.  Marilyn, I hope you and Keith have fantastic weather and a great time at Sun River!

Cottoncandy

Mary.   Yes..my gdaughter wedding will be in Texas...it will be cooler around sunset....it's about a 2 hour drive from me..but there's cabins the family will be staying in..Marlyin have fun on your trip...Sue..probably not to hot on ur walks if y'all have had rain...I try to get at the track by 7:30. Hi to Jane..Sharon.any others reading...Darlene

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  Just a quickie here as I need to get back into the kitchen to get my eggs boiled, cooled, and prepared for Deviled Eggs to take to the picnic.  It rained again last night and I really need to be outside dead heading my Gardenia bushes, but need to get this done first.

Have a nice Saturday, Every Buddy.  Darlene, your granddaughter's wedding sounds like fun--staying with your family during the weekend will be really great!

I'm off to the kitchen now.
Sue

jane

Marilyn...your numbers sound as if they're right on the edge of both high cholesterol and pre-diabetes. Good to watch your diet so they don't cross over the edge.   8)

Wonderfully cool this morning!!

We had a hectic day yesterday.  My laptop...new in Oct. suddenly gives a "plugged in but not charging" message, so off to CR and Best Buy.  The guy checked it and said it's a bad battery, but they didn't have either the tools, nor the battery to replace it.  It's a solid state laptop, so he has to ship it off to KY ...so I'm on the older laptop.

We're to have t'storms this afternoon....looked very dark this morning, but that seems to have blown east.

jane

SharonE

Bunny is better and eating and drinking now, so the antibiotic must be working.

I did a load of towels and then discovered the dryer won't work, so have them hanging on a rack on the sun porch for now Will have to call a repairman Mon. morning. If it's not one thing, it's another.

I sent a card to our 6 yr old great grand son. We gave him the gifts last weekend. Forgot the card. I don't think I have ever been so disorganized on a trip!!

Sunny, hot, and humid here today after a bad storm last night. No damage though.

Sue, enjoy your potluck today.

Jane, how distressing to have your computer battery die and no replacement for a while.

TTYL Sharon

jane

Another cool day!

Ray's out spraying around the foundation with bug spray, and then I think we'll go out to the golf course....he to play...me to drive the cart!

Sharon...yes, frustrating, but I dug out the old Asus with Win 8 and that will have to do.  I guess solid state means local geeks can't mess with it.  I liked this Asus where the battery was on the outside and I could disconnect it and order one online...which I did and which works fine.

Have a blessed Sunday, Buddies!

jane

SharonE

Jane, wear that all the upgrades on things are really downgrades!  We replaced John's battery that way too. He has since changed computers, so we'll see if that's possible next time.s

It's 90 here! but supposed to cool down into the low 80's starting tomorrow. Much more to my liking.

Bunny seems almost her old self now.

We've been to church & SS, ate lunch and read the paper, but that's about it.  We had an awful article on assisted living costs.  All kinds of add on fees and this is across the country. If any of you have to go or have family that do, be sure you check the fees and get it all in detail and written.   Sharon

maryz

High in the low 90s here, too, and nasty muggy.  I'm definitely not going outside.  Just knitting and catching up with BookTV and programs I had recorded.  Such excitement!

Hope y'all have a good week coming up.

Hey Buddies....I consider you all my good friends..so going to ask for comments..as I posted..one of my granddaughter is getting married next month...I have a ring that my husband gave me on our 25th anniversary...and I intend to give it to her....so would it be appropriate to do this when we are all together for her wedding.? I had planned on just leaving it to her when I'm gone....I also have a ring that my husband gave me for our 50th anniversary...that I'm saving and intend to give it to another granddaughter...her older sister.....your thoughts please...Darlene

maryz

Darlene, are these your only grandchildren?  If so, I think I'd give both at a time when we were together.  If there are other grandkids, especially granddaughters, I'd do it privately.  I don't think I make the gift at the time of the wedding - there is just too much other stuff going on then.  Just some random immediate thoughts.  I may change my mind after I think about it for a while.  :o  It's a lovely thing to do in any case, and I know the rings will be treasured by your granddaughters.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

jane

Darlene...I agree with Mary....make it a special occasion for just you and the girls...and not mix it in with the wedding.

We're off to Iowa City this afternoon for an early morning appt tomorrow with a new doc at the Univ. of Iowa.  Ray's wanted another opinion on all the meds he's taking, so we have an appt with a geriatrician (I guess that's the word...a doc for old people!) for a consultation.

It's been wonderfully cool here the last few days, but to heat up again this week.

I went with Ray to the golf course yesterday....cool, but windy, but nice.

jane

SCFSue

Good morning, Every Buddy.  I've been reading the paper and just putzing around with cleaning up the kitchen.  It looks like we won't have more rain today, so I'll mow the back yard and try to get more of my dwarf gardenias dead headed.  Plus the usual laundry and calling people for Thursday's bridge.  It's not my turn, but Merilyn's son-in-law has been critically ill and might not have made it through the weekend and she asked me a week ago if I'd have the bridge here.  I think my cleaning ladies will be here tomorrow, so I won't have to do much cleaning for the bridge game.

The neighborhood picnic was fun, but it was pretty hot out there.  Everyone seemed to like my deviled eggs and the hot dogs were good.  I didn't eat much else except ice cream.  Lots of neighbors from 3 streets were there and I was able to catch up with them and met a new couple who bought a friend's home when that couple retired and moved to a cottage at Azalea Place.  I still see them at Kroger occasionally.  Then yesterday afternoon, Minnie's daughter Katie brought me a big serving of her homemade peach cobbler and a small container of vanilla ice cream to go on top.  I put the ice cream into the freezer and we had a nice visit.  I ate the cobbler and ice cream later yesterday while watching a movie.

I'm off to get more gardenias dead headed and to mow the back yard when the dew is dried.  Have  a nice day, Every Buddy.

Sue

maryz

Enjoy your time in the yard, Sue.  Glad your weekend party was fun.

jane, I'll be interested to hear about Ray's visit to the geriatrician.  It's always good to have someone who coordinates all our various meds and treatments.

Happy Monday, Buddies!
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

I second all of Mary & Jane's comments, Darlene. I would not give the ring at the wedding. Also if you give her a ring now and don't give the other gd a ring till you're   gone, she may think she's left out.  Even if you don't give the older gd her ring until later, be sure to tell her she is getting it.

Jane, good idea for the gerontologist (?).  They have a very few in Charlotte downtown and very difficult to get in to. Ray is lucky to get an appt.  Sorry your heat is returning.  Better here today.

Sue, enjoy your yardwork.  The peach cobbler sounds scrumptious. Lucky you!

John's finally feeling better and is playing bridge today. Bunny is better also. I'm going to go run some errands shortly.  Sharon

Cottoncandy

Thank y'all for ur input on the ring...I will wait ...I was leaning in that direction anyway..this is her day..her time...it is sure hot in Texas...praying for rain...Darlene

jane

Good visit with geriatric doc.

Heading to Trader Joe’s and then home.

maryz

Glad all is well, jane!

Lovely day here today.  I sat out on the deck for a while this morning, just knitting and enjoying listening to the birds.
