Hi Gals, Yes, Mary, with your hair so short, I'm sure it will be gone in no time. In the meantime, what are the other ladies in your center saying?  :D I'm sorry you woke up so early, but you sure got a lot done with so little sleep!

Sue, hope you get good cards.

Jane, it seems like we've gotten a lot of rain this spring but we're still a half inch short.  Fortunately, we have an irrigation system set to come on at regular intervals if there is no rain. Of course that ups the water bill. Mother Nature is much cheaper.

I had to get up early (for me) today to go get a blood test about 20 miles away at the Osteo Dr.  I found it more easily this time. It only took a few minutes and then I left and stopped at the post office and then went on to the grocery, so that's out of the way and lunch too.

As soon as my tramadol kicks in, I've got to go to the FC. I should have gone yesterday and didn't.  It's really overcast here today, but not predicted to rain.  Oh well.  Have a nice rest of the day.  Sharon

I was wondering where you were and if everything was okay.  Have a safe trip. I'm sure the boys will appreciate their kids getting to know their grandfather.  Nice pic of you and freckles.  I like your hair short and gray or mostly so. Sharon

I got the Cortisone injection  two weeks ago. Guess what it has started hurting again and my insurance denied the MRI, so I won't be getting that. I also had my  Bone Scan and my spine is Osteoporatic, the hips have osteo penia. My Mammo is good I don't have to go for the ultra sound this time.I am using the Voltaren gel on my knee.

I should have come in here  sooner to let you all know the results

I went to an Alzhiemer/Dementia group meeting Wednesday. It is monthly so I am going to keep going. I also need to get in touch with the aging and disability office t0 see if I can get paid to be Keith's caregiver. I think I will have to go through the training agan for Oregon. I was certified in two counties in Ca.

Thank you for the compliments on the photo..

jane

Good photo, Marilyn.

Iowa had a rough night with tornadoes last night...lots of damage in Marshalltown, Bondurant and Pella.  They came up suddenly and were very strong.  That is an area in central Iowa.  We are still having a nice rain this morning, and it's cool, but we're safe.

jane

Good morning, Every Buddy.  I've been putzing around this morning as I stayed up late last night to watch a Steve McQueen movie on TCM.  It was about a group of U.S. sailors in China prior to WWII--and was pretty "hairy"!  In the end, McQueen died in a battle with the Chinese while saving some missionaries.  Sad ending, but good movie.

Jane, I'm glad you escaped the tornado damage.  We've had several threats, but so far no damage here.  My local PBS radio station always has the warnings and our fire station has an alarm which is loud enough to be heard throughout Auburn.  I take a pillow off my sofa and sit in the hallway during the alarm and until the all clear.  So far, so good.

Sharon, I had some good cards and some not so good.  Our hostess made a peach cobbler for dessert which was yummy and this group is fun to play with, even when the cards are not going my way.

Marilyn, you and Freckles are looking great!  He sure has grown since the last picture you posted.  It's good you have an Alzeimer's support group to  attend.  I'm sure it is helpful to you.

Not much else to report this morning.  I'm showered and dressed for lunch out with Tim, a stop at the library, and Kroger shopping.  Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Sue

Marilyn

Sue she hasn't grown at all she is 9 years old. (Freckles is a girl)

We it is about time to go teach my Tai chi class then go for my nail appointment, I sure like the gel nail polish over my acrylic nails.

SharonE

Jane, I just talked to John's sister in Iowa to make sure she was okay. Fortunately the tornaados skipped her.

Marilyn, my spine is so arthritic that they can't do an accurate bone scan of it. However they do the hips.  I am definitely osteoporitic. Today, I had my first annual infusion of Reclast for it.  I'm surprised you have osteoporosis as much walking as you do.  And that's something I can;t do much of.

No other news here.  Sharon

Marilyn

Sharon tell me how the Reclast affects you. AAny side effects? How do they do the infusion? I may have to talk to my Dr about that.

jane

Saturday morning greetings,

It's  refreshingly cool here this morning.  Ray was off to his Qi Chong (or however it's spelled) in the park early, and then hit the drug store, farmer's market, and out to the farm for some sweet corn.  AND home by 9:00 am.   ::)

I'm not moving that quickly...not a good night...Tylenol for arthritis, tramadol and flexeril made for a long night.

Hope you all have a great Saturday.

jane

maryz

Sorry you had a bad night, jane.  Not good here, either.  I was wide awake at 3 a.m. When I finally got up and moved to the chair, I saw a lightning flash and turned on the TV.  Our local station was on live with weather bulletins about severe thunderstorms moving through the area.  It wasn't thunder or rain that woke me, but I think just the change in the atmosphere ahead of the storms.  In any case, my location seemed to miss the worst of it, although I did get an inch of rain in my gauge.  Our building is tucked in on the east-facing side of a south-west/north-east running ridge, so many times these storms skip over us.  Anyhow, it's now 11 a.m., and I've slept a couple more hours (in the bed and in the chair).  I'll probably go up to meals and otherwise just be a sloth the rest of the day.  Knitting and NCIS will probably keep me occupied.  :D
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Marilyn, there is a whole list of side effects of the Reclast. You will need to weigh them with the results. The immediate 3 days are bone pain, flu-like symptoms, fatigue. I was told to take a Tylenol ES morning and evening for 3 days. I'm tired, although I slept well. I hurt, but then I always do, so can't really tell if any of it is side effects.  You have to drink a bunch of water before and for 3 days after to prevent kidney damage.  There are rare instances of jaw necrosis and femur breaks if you take it long term. That is the same as for the oral drugs in this group. My Dr said he would put me on it for 2 yrs and then off for 2 and then on for 2 to prevent those problems.  I'm planning to skip the workout today and take it easy. After tomorrow, things should be normal.  Prolia is another option for osteoporosis but it tends to cause muscle pain.

Mary, I'm sorry you have been having such a hard time sleeping. Are you no longer taking Melatoninn?  Mine is a sloth day too.

Jane, I can't believe Ray got all that done by 9 AM!!  I'm sorry you're still hurting. I hope you get in to see the rheumatologist soon and get some relief.
Sharon

Good morning, Buddies.  It's almost noon here and I am finally dressed.  I'd started a book last night before bedtime, stayed up late, but didn't finish it and have been reading since I ate my breakfast and read the paper about 7:30.  It's another in the Richard Sharpe series of British soldiers in the wars of the 1800's.  I just finished it and am now dressed except for shoes and socks and will fix and eat lunch shortly.

Marilyn, sorry about not remembering Freckles is a lady.  All my dogs except one have been males and I tend to think every dog must be a male.  No matter their sex, dogs are great companions!  I still miss my last dog, Stubby, who died about 3 years ago.  However, I didn't want to get another dog as I was afraid I'd die before it did and Tim would have to take it.  He and Kris have an elderly dog who is still hanging on and I know that's hard for them.

Sharon, I hope you have good results with the Reclast.  I'm glad to hear that John's sister is OK and has escaped the tornado that struck near her.  Keep us posted about the Reclast.  I sure hope it helps your condition.

Jane, I'm sorry about the bad night, too.  Nothing is worse than having pain which keeps you awake.  And I'm guessing that the lack of sleep due to pain makes you feel pretty Yucky this morning, too.  Take it easy today and I hope you feel better soon.

Mary, I'm sorry about your bad night, too.  I hate to be awakened during the night due to a loud storm or a tornado warning.  I am not good the next day if I don't get at least 7 hours of solid sleep.  I hope the knitting and NCIS will keep you happy today!

I need to think about fixing some lunch.  I'm dressed except for shoes and socks, but we just had another big downpour and everything is wet outside.  I have a bag full of new to me library books, just finished one of them, so I have plans to read and/or watch a movie this afternoon.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Being awakened by a loud storm is in competition w/ what happened Friday night
here at the Senior Living home in which I live.
I was about 1 hour into my night's sleep (10:40 about) when the alarm system went
off , with the help barging into the apartments (they all have keys saying to go to the
end of the hall until further notice) .  Youknow when you are rudely awakened with
an alarm going off for the entire Williamsburg  (Senior Living establishment) it took
me a minute or two to  get into a housecoat-- grab a thing or two that I always take
with me  at  such a time and proceed to the end of the hall.  By that time  the
loudspeaker saidyou could  now return toyour apt.  You could smell smoke however.
Ofcourse I took a long time to go back to sleep.  One apartment had an electrical
problem which was quickly extinguished by the Fire Department.  We have esperienced many fire alarms since I have lived here(5 years) but NEVER ANY DURING THE NIGHT.  It was frightening to say the least!!!!
Joy

jane

Oh, Joy!  Those middle of the night things are so unnerving.  I'm betting you and the others are still groggy and trying to get life back to normal.  I guess the good thing is there were alarms and staff was there to help you and the other residents.

Alpiner...it sounds as if the trip went very well, and the bonus of getting time with your daughter.

Quiet Sunday here...Ray boiled a ham butt with fresh green beans last night and we had fresh sweet corn.  Delicious!  He has some ham left for today...I'll probably do with scalloped potatoes, and he packaged up the rest in multiple packs for the freezer with  his Food Saver.  I wasn't sure how much he'd use that vacuum sealer, but it has come in handy.

jane

jane

I hope GinnyAnn, Jaywalker,  and Jeanne are doing ok.  Gals, please check in if you're still reading here.

maryz

jane, my sister-in-law had one of those sealer-things and also used it a lot.  Handy gadget!

Joy, we have periodic fire alarm tests - and they're always at different times of the day.  We've had one during the night, too.  Like your event, you never know what time something will happen, and the staff needs to be prepared as well as the residents.  It is definitely disconcerting, though.

alpiner, sorry your visit was for a memorial service, but I've always thought part of the reason was to see family we don't get to see more often.  Glad your trip was that kind, and otherwise uneventful.

Sue, I hope you're okay after the storms.  They've really been crazy this year, it seems.

Sharon, I assume you get the weather about 12-15 hours after we do.  Nothing too bad here yesterday - just a short shower.  Rain/storms are predicted for every day in the upcoming week.

Another quiet day today, but swimming and a 6-month doctor check tomorrow.

Stay cool, Buddies!
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Yes, Mary, there were lots of storms last evening, but they were all south of us!  We are forecast to have 50-60% chance of rain everyday this week. However the sun is shining bright now.

Joy, the only thing I have to relate to your experience is at the motel the night after our son's wedding when the alarms went off about 1 AM. I had my mom and my elderly aunt in different rooms on our floor who were both hard of hearing and I was terrified I wouldn't get them out. Finally I was able to make them hear and got them out and were about to head for the stairs when the loudspeaker came on and told us it was okay and to go back to our rooms.  Apparently a small grease fire in the kitchen that was put out quickly.  One is always glad that people are on top of things by letting you know, but oh what a shock!

Jane, your dinner sounds like what a summer dinner should be!  Yum!

Sue, a whole sack of books ought to do you for a couple weeks at least!!

I had to get up at 6:00 this morning to take John to the airport. Was back home by 8:15 and too tired to get dressed and go to church. Laid down on the couch and slept for 3 hours!  Just now ate lunch.

The reclast is not causing me much trouble now and I won't know if it helps for 2 yrs when Medicare pays for another dexascan!  In the meantime, I'll have another infusion next year at this time.

Alpiner, it is nice that you saw old friends and your daughter--even if it was a sad occasion.

I second Jane's request that the missing members pop in and post how they are and what's going on.

All for now.  Sherry

SCFSue

Good afternoon, Buddies.  Olyne picked me up for SS and church and brought me home afterwards.  The new Campus minister (a female) announced that a belated funeral service for our longtime friend, Nancy Ziegler, will be held on Friday at 2:00.  When Tim comes tomorrow to check on me, I'll have to tell him that I will need to be home in time to go to the funeral.  Maybe he might have time to go to Kroger on Thursday.

We had lots of rain last night, but no tornados in Auburn.  Tim called during the first part of the storm as they had a small one in an area of Opelika, not close to him, however.  He wanted to know if I was aware of it.  I told him I'd already put my cushion in the hall but didn't have to go in there and sit because it was not seen by radar near Auburn.  We were fortunate here.

Alpiner, I'm sorry for the loss of your husband's cousin, but glad that you were able to attend the funeral.  I'm sure it was appreciated by the family.

Joy, I'm glad you are OK, but I know how irritating it is to be awakened and frightened that the building might have a fire.  I hope you don't get any more middle of the night alarms, false or real.  That is pretty scary!

Jane, your ham, sweet corn, and left-over ham and scalloped potatoes make me envious.  I don't cook much from scratch these days as it's just too much trouble unless it's rice with sautéed veggies and a small amount of beef.  And when I make that, I try to make enough for 2 mid-day meals.  Cooking for one is no fun!

Mary, Tim called during the storm in Opelika as he thought I might need help, but the storm went south and missed Auburn, although we had plenty of rain.  I didn't mind the rain, except I'll have to cut the grass in the backyard tomorrow or Wednesday.  I have lunch and bridge at the retirement home on Tuesday.

I have GinnyAnn's phone number somewhere and if I can find it, I'll give her a call.  She's been pretty depressed since her son died.  Her other son is a doctor, can't remember what kind, but he does surgeries, I think.

Sharon, I can understand going back to bed and taking a snooze after driving so early for John to catch his flight.  How long will he be gone?  I'm glad the reclast is not giving you much trouble now and hope it helps a lot!

I have my dishwasher going and that's going to be it for ship's work today--I'm reading a mystery by C.J. Box, so I'm going out on the deck to read for a while until it gets too hot out there.  I should finish it shortly.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

It's been so beautiful out...low 70s and very low humidity.  Ray went for a bike ride, and I called him and we decided to meet at the brewery for a cool one....stout for him...diet pepsi for me. I walked down and it's been a while since I could get out and walk.   We could also see the kids and adults on their intertubes and rafty things enjoying the river and the "whitewater" drops...lots of laughter could be held.  Also neat to see families having picnics near the river and daddies with their little ones.

I'm watching Rugby Sevens world cup....so you know that's nothing worth watching on TV.   :2funny: :2funny: :2funny:

Time to have a cup of tea and read on my IPAD.

Hi all.
I am still here and keeping up on the postings. Sorry when I read about the ain some of you are having.
I have had a hard time with alergies this year. Not very good taking this hot weather.never seen it so bad here in Illinois. I have needed thing doing such as outdoor painting. Yard work and lots indoors. Nothing done.i have now just given up until fall.
I spent a long time putting my things in order such as will. And all that goes into estate. Even to health .death. Attorny finalised the other day. Think I was a little depressed when doing it. Lost 3 more friends past 3 months so now getting to be few friends in town. Seemed to be sleeping to much. Not getting my walking in
Last 2 days weather perfect. Going to be hot again rest of week. Soon as fall comes I will get back to looking at my bucket list. Cheer up again. I still fight off taking any meds as most just make me sick. I think that is more me . Never have tried hard.
I have done a lot of reading but kept off computers.
Texas daughter up with husband and 2 GGchildren. Also last week for 2 days my GD from Connecticut came down with her 3 . That was nice but was either storming or 90 deg.
Picnics planned but rained out.
So all take care.things will get back to normal lovin soon.
I try not to watch news . Nothin but sad things on there.

JeanneP

HURRAH....Jeanne is ok, and hating this hot and humid weather as I am.  By the way, Jeanne, I waved at you coming and going on I-74 through Champaign.  It sounds as if you had good visits with daughter and grands.

Great to hear from you, Jeanne.  The heat this summer has been oppressive.  But eventually it will get cooler.  Hang in there and keep your a/c running.

Good morning, Buddies.  I've finally finished breakfast and reading the paper, so am into my "work clothes".  I plan to go out side and dig up a few more stray mimosa trees before they get so large I won't be able to dig them up.

Tim will be coming by sometime soon and hopefully my "bug guy".  I called and left a message asking him to come sometime this morning or Wednesday morning.  I have lunch and bridge at Azalea place tomorrow at 11:00 and I need the morning to clean up the kitchen, shower, and dress as Libba will pick me up about 10:55.

I'm going outside now before it gets too hot.  We had tornado warnings yesterday afternoon, but they bypassed Auburn and went south of us.  Not much else to report this morning.  Have a nice day, Buddies.

Jeanne, so glad to see your post. Also glad you got your will, etc. finished. Our grandson's 82 yr old grandmother died with no insurance and now will, nothing.  My grandson's father is worthless and won't work, so it falls on Jonathan to pick up the pieces.  Since he is a single dad and not making a lot, that makes it difficult.  Hope that as things cool down in IL, you will get your motivation back.  Our son lives in southern IL and has been without AC for 2 weeks. They had to go to a hotel for a few days when it was at its worst.  Awful heat.  Here too!

Jane, I agree with Sue's ability to weed!  We have grass that seems to want to come up in the mulch.

Sue, glad the tornados skipped you.  We ended up not getting any rain yesterday although 10 miles south, they got 2"!!

I need to go work out and redd out my den.  John did get to his sister's safely.  Hi to all.  Sharon
