Morning, Babes!

Ray’s off to golf early, before the heat and humidity set in.

Nothing going on but the usual chores.

Have a Good Friday,

Jane

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I've read the paper, showered and dressed in "soft clothes" for a quick lunch with Tim, Kroger shopping, and a trip to the library to return and get new books.  I have a funeral at 2:00 of a dear friend who has been living the last 6 or 7 years with her daughter's family in Wisconsin.  She will be buried here in town and the memorial service is at our church at 2:00.  So we need to get our errands done and get me home in time to get dressed for the service and reception.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

SharonE

Sue, you have a busy day ahead. Bet you'll be glad to get home and read at the end.

Mary, I used the carts for probably a year and a half when my knee and back were so bad, but now I feel it's good for me to push the cart and walk, but I am really tired when I get home.  Today, I went to Walmart to buy school supplies for the children in our church district. They will dispense them. I kind of went overboard today and spent more than I planned, but it's for a good cause. Kids without supplies aren't interested in learning.  I also bought some new bathroom rugs.  The backs on the old ones were shredding off. I try not to dry them all the way and then just spread them on chairs in the sun room, but I guess 10 or 11 years is still a good life for them.  I will donate the old ones to the animal shelter for bedding. I'm tired now though.

Darlene, have a great family reunion!  I hope the CBD  oil is helping your niece.

Jane, I can remember playing golf in 90 degree weather, but I sure wouldn't want to do it now--even in a cart.  At least you can relax while he plays.

It has sprinkled on and off here today but nothing appreciable.  Sharon

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I'm showered, shampooed, dressed, and ready for pick up by our church's C.E. director.  I've agreed to teach the grades 3-5 Sunday School class for the next year.  I've taught almost every grade of SS including adult levels, but I prefer the children.  They certainly bring a different perspective to Sunday School!

Yesterday's funeral and reception for our friend Nancy was very touching.  Lots of children, grandchildren, and great-grands were in attendance.  Our senior pastors are still at Montreat leading summer classes of some sort, so our new AU Student pastor officiated.  Most of the other attendees were about my age and like me had been friends of Nancy during earlier years.  She's been living with her daughter in Wisconsin for almost 10 years now.  We tried to talk on the phone about once or twice a month, but she began to lose her memory and our phone calls fell off.   When I first moved here Nancy, Minnie, Bonney, and I went to Brick Oven Pizza every Friday evening and then to one of our homes to play bridge.  Now Bonney and I are the only 2 remaining members of that bridge group.

Sharon, I did finish a paper back book that I'd started before Tim picked me up for lunch, library, and Kroger shopping, so today when I come home from the meeting, I have 6 new ones to choose from.  I need to do some more weeding, but by noon, it will be too hot to work outside!

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

SharonE

Sue, that's great that you are going to teach the children's SS. Will you have a reliable ride source?  It's so hard to lose long-time friends. It definitely brings to mind our own mortality.

I've read the paper and the SS lesson and dressed, so I'm off to the FC soon.  Not much else planned.

Hope everyone has a good day.  Sharon

jane

Saturday morning greetings!

Sue...with your teaching background, that should be fun for you.

Sharon...good for you and the FC.

I really slept in this morning.  I may be able to get a short walk in...depends on how the joints cooperate.

Hi Buddies. Sorry I haven't posted in while, we have been home since last Sunday. Today has been a down day for me. There is so much that needs to be done  on this house, just getting started on the outside is depressing.  I called the roofer  to get a bid  and he will be out Wednesday to do that. The roof is just the beginning, the gutters, sofits and rain pipes need replacing. But getting the roof to where it doesn't leak is a big plus for me. I won't have be cleaning up the flooded laundry room every day it rains. It's a shame to put so much $$ into the outside when the inside needs  so much as well and the dirt basement  is full of mold, too. We need windows replaced with the vinyl ones, Oh gosh sorry to be venting like this. The carpet is also disgusting and needs to be ripped out down to the hardwood in the older part of the house. Well I guess it will have to be one thing at a time..

maryz

Sorry you're having to deal with all that, Marilyn.  But at least, you now have the authority to do the necessary work.

Marilyn  ... looks like you really
do have a whole lot to do to bring make your
home livable... or saleable when the time
comes.

I would really be concerned with the mold in the cellar..
That could be affecting your health. If, in fact
you do have a lot of mold there.  I hope that it
hasn't spread  to the rest of the house.
I hope that you can  get it all
taken care of ASAP.

Hugs,
Sandy

Hi, Sandy!

We went with friends last night to something advertised as a "Carriage Glow" at the fairgrounds.  It turned out to be a boring affair.  6 or so fancy carriages drawn by beautiful horses paraded in a circle area.  Drivers and any riders were in period costumes.  One was judged on the dog in the carriage, and I don't know what the second "contest" was supposed to be about.  The PA system wasn't working, so everybody was sort of out of it.  They then had a long interval between the first and second "contest" waiting for it to get darker....so I guess the carriage "lights" would show better.  Not something I'll attend again.  But, these folks came from other states...I can't imagine the cost involved for having and transporting all the horses and carriages and period costumes.

A storm this morning and more to come, I guess.  An inside day for me, for sure.

SCFSue

Good morning, Jane, Marilyn, and Sandy, and every Buddy looking in.  It is almost 11:00 and I am still in my P.J.'s.  Olyne has weekend company and can't pick me up for church, so I'm going to dress and pick up some fallen limbs and cut back some weeds that I started on the other day.  Other than that I'll stay inside and read.

Marilyn, I'm sorry about the things that need to be fixed at your home.  I know it's frustrating that you must make lots of decisions about it and set priorities for getting it done.  It's tough that Keith is not able to help with decision making.  You and he are in my prayers this morning.

Sandy, that's good advice about the mold.  I am allergic to it, so try to keep my house dry and clean when we have lots of rain (and we've had a heap of it this summer--which is unusual.  We usually don't get much until mid-September, Early October.)  I do need to clean the vents in my home--which means unscrewing the vent plates, taking the screen thingies out and washing them and then re-inserting them when they've dried outside on the porch.  YUCK!

Mary, how are you today--and what will you be doing today?  After I finish the little bit of yard work I plan to do (picking up downed limbs and pulling a few weeds) I plan to get started on another of my new library books.

Jane, the "Carriage Glow" events sounds like it could have been interesting if it were better organized.  I agree that while the costumes and carriages may have been interesting it certainly must have been boring to wait so long to see the "Glow"!

I need to get some clothes on and get outside to get those downed limbs down to the curb.  I'd also like to get the patch of weeds I started clearing yesterday finished--but it will depend on how hot it is out there!  It's hard to tell when my AC comes on frequently to keep the house cool.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

SharonE

Hi Gals,

Marilyn, you really have a lot to do  to get your house livable. I don't envy you.  Have you considered selling it and buying something in better condition?  By the time you do all the repairs, it may be as much as buying a new place or condo.  Just a thought.  Hugs and prayers to make the right decisions on it all..

Sue, if Olnye can't take you to church a lot of the time, how will you teach SS?  Be careful and don't hurt yourself carrying all those limbs & pulling all the weeds in the heat.

Jane, it sounds like it was a good idea gone bad with the carriages.  Too bad.l

We've been to church and SS, took all the school supplies to church today for the children to collect aand sort and take to the schools.  Since then, Lori called and talked for an hour and a half!!  We hadn't talked for about 2 weeks. Now I need to go in and get stuff started for dinner. I'm making a tuna pasta salad. I also need to put the towels in the washer. Nothing else going on here. I did the FC yesterday.  Sharon

SCFSue

Good morning, Sharon and Every Buddy looking in.  I'm still sitting here in my P.J.'s but need to get dressed to go outside and finish the weeding project I left on Saturday.  Yesterday Olyne had company and I wasn't able to get to church, so just goofed around, stayed inside, and read a couple of my new library books.

I was still eating breakfast when Tim called and asked if he could use my car for a few days.  His work truck is having problems and needs to visit the shop.  Kris dropped him off on her way to work and he will probably use my car until Friday when we eat out, do shopping, library, etc.

I need to get dressed and get outside before it gets much hotter.  Have a nice day, Every Buddy.  I hope all are feeling well today.

Sue

jane

Heavy storms overnight....3-5" of rain, so awakened at 2:02 am by an alert about flash flooding.  We're not in danger of that.

Sue...your car probably is wonderful for Tim and it's good for the car, too, to get out and driven.

Not moving very well today...joints not happy. So, I decided to start to fill out the paperwork for my rheumatologist appt on the 23rd.  I hate doing all that paperwork.  Luckily, I keep my meds on a word document, so I just print it out and attach it.

Supposedly, the local medical provider has already sent my last two blood works to them, but I'm guessing they'll want to do that again.

jane

JeanneP

Marilyn.  You are looking at thousands of Dollars needed to fix your house up. Time to just sell and let someone who is in the business of fixing up old house by doing the work themselves.
Fixing mold itself would cost and still not get it all.  Don't they have Senior housing in your area. Such as HUD. Some are really nice around here. Mostly 55 and older.

It's Dreaded Dentist Day here. I have a new dentist after mine for the last 35 yrs retired.

It's also 70% chance of rain all day...so a dreary dreaded dentist day! :2funny:

jane

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I've been outside pulling weeds--just managed to finish one trug full and have called it a day.  It's already hot out there!  I don't have a plan for the rest of the day, but think I will try to do a little trimming in my flower beds when they are shaded.

For years I've been donating to the Susan Komen foundation for Breast Cancer.  This past week, some women in Hampton, NY, called asking me for a donation.  I am sure they got my name from Susan G. Komen Foundation.  I am going to write a letter to the Komen Foundation and tell them to take me off their list.  I am really ticked about this and don't plan to give to either of these groups, but only to my local BC group.  Has this happened to any of you?

Marilyn, have you talked to Keith's sons about the condition of your home?  It seems to me that if you could sell and move to a smaller place it might be easier for you.  You have certainly worked hard to keep Keith comfortable and are taking good care of him.  They need to step up and help out.

Jane, I'm sorry about the paperwork, but it seems inevitable, doesn't it?  Tim was happy to pick up my car and hopefully his truck will be good to go next week.  We decided after I fell and can no longer drive the car, that we'd keep it anyway as it is much more comfortable for me to get in and out than his truck.  Good luck with the rheumatologist and keep us posted.

Jeanne, it's good to see you back.  BTW, I love your hat.  It will keep the sun off your face and is very attractive.

Have a happy day, Every Buddy.
Sue

SharonE

Hi Gals.  I didn't post yesterday because I've apparently come down with a horrible cold. Felt miserable, drippy and congested all day despite my usual remedies.  Consequentially, I slept about 10 hrs last night!! I guess I was really tired. Didn't get to the FC yesterday. Figured thata would make it worse and possibly spread it.  My cleaning lady was here yesterday, so that was good. I did 2 loads of laundry Sunday, so can hold off on that till tomorrow. I also fixed a big tuna pasta salad on Sunday, so had enough left over for yesterday and didn't need to cook. Was so glad.

Jane, I hate filling out all those papers too and usually just fill out the first page and the signatures and attach my health history and meds that I keep on the computer to it. Most of the time, they accept that.

Sue, glad your car gets some use. If it sits too long, the battery will die.  I make so many short trips that that has happened to me, so John drives my car to church and some longer places. I'm sure Tim appreciates having a back-up also.

Good luck at the dentist, Jane. That's not something I dread unless it's an extraction.

Hi Jeanne. Agree with you.

We had a bad storm yesterday and probably a lot of rain. Seemed like it anyway. Lightening too, but no damage or power outage.

I'm still going to take it easy today. No plans.  Sharon

maryz

I haven't posted much, either - just nothing going on.  Mostly, this is a good thing, I guess.

Sharon, sorry you've been down with a cold.  They can make us feel so miserable, and we just have to wait them out.  I know what you mean about all the short trips, but I haven't had any battery problems so far.

jane, rain and dentistry - yuck.  Although I don't usually have any problems with the dentist - just cleaning.  I know I'm luck - obviously good heredity in that department.

Sue, it's nice to have that extra car for Tim to use when necessary, and to take you on your errands.

Good to see Jeanne posting.  I guess we'll all do better when this awful summer's heat has eased up.  We're having heat indexes (indices???) of over 100* with all our humidity and late afternoon thundershowers.  At least we're not having fires in the SE.  Marilyn and John's California family are frequently in my thoughts as I read about those terrible forest fires.

We wound up doing very well at duplicate last night.  Partner and I were tied for first (12 couples), and won 1.32 MP.  I think that's the first time I've ever gotten anything more than a fraction of a point.  I think I'm up to about 21 or 22 now. WOW!!   And then somebody talks about some club member who has 20,000! MP.  Oh, well - I don't play for the points in any case.  It's just fun to know you've played your cards well.

Did I tell you Margaret is going to have surgery next Monday.  She has two ruptured discs in her neck (C5 and C6, I think) and has been dealing with lots of pain and numbness.  The doc is going to use some cadaver bone and metal leave-in-place pieces to stabilize things.  Older son Matt will be there for a few days and, of course, Jesse is always there.  She'll be out of work for a week, but still no driving for a while after that.  I'm not going - I'd be more trouble than I could help.  I'll just worry from here.

Stay cool, Buddies!

Everything good at the dentist...and a nice young, handsome, gentle new guy...so all is good until end of March.

Now to just be a slug...humidity has now increased dramatically as rain has stopped for a bit.

Hi Buddies...I survived the family reunion...was a lot of fun and hugs from those don't see often...the weather was nice to...low humity..Good luck Marylian with your house problems..I also need to do some needed repairs..but I don't have any mold problems..Sue..looks like you are still doing your favorite things..reading and yard work....I don't like to do yard work...Jane..glad your dentist appt went well..Hi MaryZ..Sharon..Jeanne..and any others reading..may God Bless you in every way"..Darlene

SharonE

Darlene, glad your reunion went well and that the humidity was low.  We are about the same as Mary--high temps and high humidity with evening storms.

Mary, prayers go out for Margaret. That sounds like a serious operation.  Hurrah for your duplicate success.  John and the Chinese man, Situ, have been first over all the last 2 times they've played and got a bunch of points. He also did well with his Puerto Rican friend yesterday, which was unusual. I wish it would rub off on me!

Jane, glad the dentist was good (& handsome too)!

Have a nice evening everyone.  I'm going in and fix a taco salad for dinner.  Sharon

jane

Darlene....glad the reunion went well.

Mary...I missed about Margaret...she’ll be in our LIGHT on Monday.

Still raining off and on....we went out for Taco Tuesday, and now home and in for the night.

Good morning, Buddies.  I'm still sitting here in my PJ's, but plan to shower soon.  I'm caught up on outside work except for trimming the butterfly bush, but will let that go for a day or two.  We had more rain yesterday and of course that will mean more weeds!  I'm playing bridge this afternoon and am hoping for some good cards!  Olyne and Sarah will pick me up about 12:45.

Sharon, I'm sorry about the cold.  You are always so very busy and I expect while you're out and about you encounter people with cold germs.  I hope you have a chance to rest today--and drink lots of fluids.

Mary, I'm sorry that Margaret is facing surgery, but hope that it will relieve her pain.  It's good that Matt and Jesse are nearby and can help out.  I know you're worried and I'm keeping her and your entire family in my prayers.  Keep us posted.

Jane, I'm glad the dental visit went well--and Woo Hoo on getting a new, young and handsome dentist!

I'm off to trim my butterfly bush and then shower, dress, and read until time to fix some lunch.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

jane

As Sue said, I sure hope my cards are better today.  I was last, last week.  The lowest always gets her quarter ( you can see we are big spenders) back “for her misery.”

Sharon...feeling any better today?  I hope so.

SharonE

Sue, glad you're caught up with the weeds for now.  Hope you have good cards today.  I don't know how I got the cold. I use the disinfecting wipes at the grocery and the FC.  Maybe at Walmart.  I was miserable Monday, but started getting better yesterday and feel a good deal better today, but I hope I haven't said that too soon!

Jane, we were on the same wave length last night--we had taco salad, but I made it myself. I can't handle the hot spices, so I keep mine mild. We didn't have rain yesterday. Who knows today.  We have a 30-50^ chance for the remainder of the week + temps around 90 with humidity in the 70's which makes it so uncomfortable.  Hope you're playing bridge and having fun today. We put a dollar in the pot for our bridge and get a dollar back for the booby prize.

I'm going to start packing my bag for Friday and maybe do some laundry.

Hi to all.  Sharon

Marilyn

I have another Ortho appt today. this time they want to talk about PT. Yeah right, Pt  is going nto be painful if they want me to climb stairs  or  bend my knee past a certain pint. I can walk fine. The insurance wont pay for an MRI until after PT. Ugh.
About selling this house that ain't gonna happen until I'm the one on the deed, Keith will never sell this house in my opinion. I have to find out is his ex is still on the title. I don't know if he changed it feven tho the house was awarded to him in  the divorce.  So I have to take the POA to the county recorders office and wile there I will be asking about the title and how to get my name on. Oh Jeanne this house is worth way more than the repairs would cost even if the repairs are thousands $$.

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  It's going to be another scorcher today, so I'm going outside shortly to do a little weeding and to maybe mow my back yard, but that will depend on whether I have enough shade to do the mowing.  I left my cane at Carolyn's yesterday and she is coming by about noon while doing errands and will bring it back to me.  I've read all of last Friday's library books, so have now re-read 2 of my favorites by Susan Elizabeth Phillips.  I'll have to find another favorite for this afternoon and evening.

Jane, my Thursday bridge also plays for a quarter, too.  Everybody puts one in and the winner gets $1, second 75 cents, and low gets her quarter back.  If I get any back, I put it in my quarter jar to use the next time.

Sharon, taco salad sounds like a winner.  I'm not doing much cooking anymore--eating lots of sandwiches, fruit, and some Special choice dinners.  I'm a bit ashamed of myself, but not enough to spend lots of time in the kitchen.

Marilyn, I hope your Ortho appointment went well yesterday.  I can sympathize about the PT because after my fall I had to have therapists visit me at the rehab facility and then later at home.  It was painful at first, but I gradually healed and although I still need a brace on my right leg, I'm able to walk OK and do everything I want except drive my car!  Good luck with getting the title to the house and car as you'll need it.  Perhaps his sons can help with that.  They owe you at least that much.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Still no word from the company coming to upgrade my internet.  Time is 12:30-4:30.  Ray stayed here while I went to lunch with a group of gals that used to be our Knit Group.  The one gal now lives in Iowa City, but comes back up here for massage, hair cut,, pedicure, etc.  Her "maintenance" she calls it.  Anyway we met at the BBQ place in town; I stayed an hour and then left to come home.  Ray doesn't really know about the modem, etc., so I feel better being here.

It's in the 90s here and high humidity.

I have some laundry in, but that's all I'm doing today.   ;D

jane

SharonE

Marilyn, PT is no fun, but I have seen wonderful results from it. If that's the only way you can get an MRI to get further treatment, I'd go gor it. I agree with who ever suggested getting the boys involved to make sure your name is on the deed of the house and the car, because his ex could walk off with everything if not.  Divorce and property division and paperwork is such a messy business.  As you know, our 2nd daughter has been through the mill with that situation.  She is still trying to get her name off the deed of his condo that has a lien on it after about 2 yrs!!

I've been to the grocery, dropped our old soft bath rugs at the vet's for the dog shelter, went to the ATM, picked up some papers at the clubhouse and dropped off a book at the library that I had finished.  I'm beat and I still need to do the last of my packing.

We have an HOA here with various compliance rules which have recently been changed due to the developer building out and the HOA taking over. So we got a letter telling us 4 things we needed to change!  The main thing was to move the birdbath out of the middle of the back yard!  It's only been there 12 years!  So that is going to entail us making a flower bed and installing both the birdbath and the bird feeder in it.  We also have to have special edging on it and on our other 2 beds because the little metal fences we edged the back beds with are now illegal.  Another was a dead bush that we have had an order in to be replaced for a month. Another was a plastic chest on the side of the house that no one can see except our next door neighbor. We bought it originally to store our birdseed in and some yard utensils to keep from running to the front and in the garage. However mice ate a hole in the chest, so we've had the birdfeed inside for a while, so putting the other things in the garage and pitching the chest isn't a big deal. It's just the whole idea of the thing.  They even limit the # of pots we have in front and back and the # of decorative items.  Grrrr! I know they need rules, but I think they ought to be commonsense ones.  Sharon
