Darlene, good for you for helping your brother with the injections.  I'm not sure I could inject myself or anyone else.  I always shut my eyes and turn my head when I get one at the doctor's office!

Sharon, if I can't get the printer to work today, I'll walk over to the library on Saturday and print what I need.  Thank goodness I only have to teach that class every 4th week.  I think when the term is over in December, I'll ask to be relieved of the duty.  I don't think having 3 different teachers to rotate in a month is a good idea.  I'll use my age as an excuse!

I hope Jane and Ray are having a good time.  Where are our other Buddies today?
Sue

Phooey - just lost my post!

I did comment to everybody, but won't go back over that (sorry).

I will repeat that Jesse and Darby (his fiancee) brought Margaret over yesterday.  She needed to pick up her DL, CC, and insurance card that Matt had gotten away with, then left with me.  She looks good, and is already noticing improvement from her symptoms.  Her incision is on the front of her neck, about 3-4" long, just to the right of midline.  I think it'll be almost unnoticeable with time.  I'm sure the ride over tired her out a lot, but she is improving.  And I think we both needed some "mom/daughter" hugs.

Happy Thursday, Buddies!

When I had my face surgery it was cut from temple down behind ear and then down my neck . He did a fantastic job sort of staying i the one wrinkle i had on my neck. Sort of when they do face lifting I think. He then ordered my some cream that came from a lob in Hollywood. Must be what the people out there use after face lifting. It was about $200.49 for a couple week worth and used it about 6 week. Came to me on Ice pack. Really worked great. Cant tell or see scar. Insurance wouldn't pay for that part. Maybe that cream that women use after having a C. Birth would work on a small one.
Thank goodness. Cooling down here. Never had such a horrible summer for heat. Made me so tired. I still seem to need a pick up . Trying to watch what I am eating.
JeanneP

SharonE

Mary, so glad Margaret came by. Glad she's doing well.  Bio-oil is what I have used on my knee.  However, it is a big scar and I think it is going to take more than that to disguise it.  It does look better than the scar from my partial knee replacement surgery.

Jeanne, you are lucky to have a doctor who gave you such good cream.  I'm really not concerned with my knee but I would be with my face.

Sue, I think we really are past the age of being good SS teachers for younger children.  I really wasn't comfortable with it when I did it a couple years ago + my back gave me fits sitting on the little chairs.  John and I sub as SS teachers for our adult SS and that's not too bad. They are all so appreciative and responsive.  Our SS teacher is 87 and caring for a dying wife, so he is really frail and needs our help from time to time.  John and I usually team teach.  I start out with the spiritual and he fills in with the historical.

Our landscaper never showed today!  Grrrr!

John and I both need to get a real ID Drivers license, so we researched all the stuff we needed for that and we will go to the DMV next week maybe. John's license expires in Oct. and though mine is current, I need the Real ID to fly.  My passport has expired. We plan to fly to INDY for Thanks giving and I won't be able to fly after Oct. 1st without it.  Since I don't plan to travel, as of now, I'm not going to renew my passport.

Have a nice evening.  Sharon

Yes Sue..on the injections...I told him I would give it hem or show him how to do it...guess...he just wants me to...I worked for years as a nurse..so doesn't bother me..Darlene

Good morning, Every Buddy.  I'm dressed now after breakfast and paper reading.  Tim will be over in about an hour to take me to the library, Kroger shopping, and we'll go out to lunch, too.  I'll probably spend a good bit of the afternoon preparing for the SS lesson I have to teach on Sunday.  I'm a bit anxious about it, but think I can manage.  It's been quite a while since I taught 3-5 grade children.  I'm planning to bribe them with chocolate chip cookies (made by Mrs. Kroger!).  If I can get my printer working, I'll print out a work sheet for the SS class, but if not will go over to the library tomorrow to print it out.

It rained again last night and is a bit cloudy this morning, so we may get more rain.  This is unusual for Alabama this time of year.  The grass in my back yard has been growing way too fast!

Mary, I'm glad to hear that Margaret is home and improving.  I know that must be a relief.  Jesse had been a BIG HELP!  Keep us posted.

Jeanne, I'm glad to hear you're having some cooler weather.  We've had very high temperatures, but luckily a lot of rain, too.

Sharon, I am nervous about teaching the SS class.  There are 15 children on the list and some of them are rather precocious.  I'm taking the cookies and ginger ale as a bribe.  I don't think the plan to have 4 different teachers each term is a good one--I think each one will have different ways of teaching and some kids will respond differently to each one.  Oh well, I should never have volunteered. I thought I'd be teaching every Sunday for 6 weeks.  I was the only primary grade teacher to show up for the orientation session and it was not mentioned then about the every 3 or 4 week schedule.

Darlene, good for you for helping your brother with the injections.  I can sympathize with your both.  I think it would be very hard for anybody to give themselves an injection.  Does he live close to you?

Not much else to report this morning.  Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

JeanneP

Sue.  You are really brave. Taking on 15 children at a time that young. Although I had my GG here few weeks ago. 11 and 14. Don't know which would be the best. Although the older ones just keep on their phones. I don't envy school teachers anymore. My county  are about 95 teachers short this years. Hiring Temps at 115 dollars a day.

What a storm last night. Thunder, Lightning. Wind of 67. Such a mess . My yard is just big limbs but next door half a tree came down. Missed my place. Have a 24 ft. Awning over porch that got little damage.  Feel O.K though after seeing all that is going on with the  flooding. fires out west. Been a crazy summer here. Wonder what Winter will be like.

Beautiful, quiet morning here in the woods of northern WI.

We had supper with TX friends from Cumberland â€"8 Miles  from where we areâ€"and so got to introduce nephew and wife to some local long time residents.  Last night we went to Stillwater, MN, and met great nephews for pizza.  Stillwater is a very bustling place on a Fri. Night.  Great time.

Jane

maryz

Glad you're having a good trip, jane.  I loved to explore new places.  Alas, not so much  anymore.

A usual quiet weekend here.  We had 3"!!! of rain overnight, and more predicted.  But the sun is shining right now.  I went out this morning to get a haircut, pick up my Walmart order, and stop at Dollar General for some birthday cards.  Real excitement in my world.   ;D

Same here, Mary, only less!  My car battery died yesterday so couldn't go to the FC or the grocery till John got home. Grocerty was mandatory and I was too tired to work out after.

Today, John and I configured the new flowerbed with a hose and after bit have to head to the Auto Pro to get my battery checked and possibly replaced! Willl pick up some lawn marking paint at Lowes while we're out to outline the flowerbed.  Original landscaper is history. Another is coming Thurs. I have to get it marked and a picsture taken in order to submit the modification order to the compliance committee.  Such a big deal over such a little thing.

Jane, glad you're enjoying WI and got to meet with friends.  Have a safe trip home.

Jeanne, glad you didn't get much damage from the storm.  We didn't get any yesterday but supposed to tonight. We'll see.

Lots to do. Have to run. Sharon

SCFSue

More rain here, Buddies.  I did walk over to the library about 10:45 as my printer needs a new cartridge and I needed to print out the SS lessons for this week and also for the 4th week from tomorrow.  I found a cartridge, but will ask Tim to replace it for me.  I have the SS lesson prepared, cookies for bribing good behavior, and hopefully my nerves are calm now!

Jeanne, I've taught every grade from 1-6 and also bookkeeping and typing to 10th, 11th, and 12 grades.  I prefer first grade, but the only place I got to do that more than 1 year was at a private school in Albuquerque.  I team taught there for 4 years.  I taught reading and science and the other teachers taught music, math, special themes like Indians and southwestern customs.  It was a great school, classes confined to no more than 20 students.

Jane, it sounds like you're having a good time--and I'm assuming it's cooler up there than at home.  It's still terribly hot here, although more rain this afternoon cooled it down for a while.

Mary, I don't have a rain gauge anymore because it split when we had a big frost in January and I keep forgetting to get a new one.  But we've had more rain this summer than I've seen since Bob and I moved to the farm in 1979.  We had lots of dry summers with occasional rain showers, so lots of buckets carried up from the creek to water the grapes and blueberries.

Sharon, I hope you were able to get a battery installed in your car.  Nothing's worse than being without a car!  I'd forgotten that when you live in a planned community that there are rules about what and where to plant.  I just stick stuff where I want it and so far my neighbors don't seem to mind.  At least no complaints.

I've showered and shampooed and was hoping to watch Downtown Abbey and Doc Martin tonight, but my PBS station is having another fund raiser, so I'll probably read one of my library books or watch an early hallmark movie.

Have a nice evening, Every Buddy.

I was awake till 3 AM today, so couldn't force myself awake to go to church. John went though and brought back the news that our favorite couple from church who moved to Orangeburg in Oct has had the wife diagnosed with stomach cancer.  She had had lymphoma about 8 yrs ago, so I guess it spread from that.  She's a retired elementary teacher and so sweet, but really frail now.

John charged my car and it got us to Autozone to be checked and was only 50% charged in 8 miles, so John is going to take it to Toyota Wed when he plays bridge there.  I need to call a bridge friend to take me to bridge that day.

Milly got her Shutterfly book and was thrilled with it. We haven't heard from the other sister, but John just discovered he had the zipcode wrong by one digit. I hope it gets there.

John's taking me out to dinner tonight. I guess he didn't think I was energetic enough to fix it. (He was right, too)

I refilled John's minutes on his phone and also talked to a customer rep and found out how to access our voice messages.

I posted all the pics of the great grands on FB for those of you who do it and aren't bored with seeing other people's babies.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend and that Jane and Ray get home safely.  Sharon

Good morning, Buddies.  I've spent the last very hot 45 minutes pruning pyracantha--and still have far more to do, but I'm already wringing wet and my arms are itchy from carrying the clippings down to the curb.  The trash men were coming up the street and I wanted to get at least one pile out of here today!

I'm expecting Tim sometime this morning to check on me.  I hope he'll have a minute or two to put my new license plate on.  After much discussion with the lady who called to tell me I couldn't renew the military plate, she finally looked at the regulations and sent me an apology and the military plate.  However, it's a new design and doesn't say U.S. Navy!  This is disappointing, but at least it is legal for me to have it and I am proud of being a military widow.  Of course I'd rather have had Bob live a lot longer, but this is one way that I can pay tribute to his 20 years of service--and the 20 years the boys and I were alone while he was deployed on overseas duty (usually 9 months of each deployed year!).

The SS class duty yesterday was the pits.  It consisted of pupils in grades 3-5.  The third and fourth grade kids were co-operative, but two fifth graders were very disruptive.  Thank goodness I only have to teach there every 3 or 4 weeks.  I plan to talk to the fifth grade girls privately next time and tell them I will call their parents if they don't co-operate.  I was shocked at their rudeness.  I don't like the curriculum either.  I'd printed out work sheets at the library and only a few of the younger ones completed them.  I do think the switching of teachers every week is part of the problem.

Sharon, I'm sorry about the wakeful night.  Also very sorry about your friend who moved to Orangeburg and now has cancer.  I hope her treatments include pain relief and that she can be made comfortable.  I don't do facebook but know that those who do will enjoy your pictures.

Not much else to report.  I have my dishwasher running and will have to put the dishes away later and will probably do a load of wash.  I hope Jane and Ray had good weather and a nice time with their relative, plus a safe drive home.

Have a nice day, Buddies.
Sue

SharonE

I've done 2 loads of laundry, but that's about all today. I've been playing on the computer.

I'm sorry, Sue, that the 2 girls were rude. I found that some of the kids I had were pretty disruptive too--another reason I quit.
Pyracantha is difficult to prune and handle--so stickery! Be careful.

I am waiting for the compliance lady to call me and tell me when she is coming over. I have some errands to do, but between her and the car situation, I feel locked in.  John had to count $$ at church early this AM and then was going to bridge, so no help there.  He did take me out to eat last night though. His other sister called last night to thank us for the Shutterfly book. She was very impressed with it. I'm so glad it all turned out well for them.

Hi to everyone.  Sharon

Cottoncandy

Hi everyone...Sue..my brother lives about 3 blocks from me...it seems sometimes our younger kids are rude..probably act that way at home...I used to help with kids at church..but don't any more..I do volunteer with singing at the nursing home..a group from our church go once a month...the patients there seem to enjoy that....I decided to get off Facebook for awhile...seems to be so much hacking of accounts now...but I know I will miss keeping up with grand kids...we are having hot temps again...hope it cools off next month...hope everybody has a great week...Darlene

SCFSue

Good morning, Sharon and Darlene and whoever is looking in this morning.  I've been outside trimming azaleas, but am far from finished.  I can only take a short while out there--just too hot and muggy to completely prune the azaleas!  I need to shower and get the itchiness taken care of!

As far as the SS class goes, I only have to teach about every third week.  If the 2 fifth girls show up the next time I'm there, I plan to take them outside the classroom and give them a lecture about being a good example, etc., plus the warning if they act like they did this past week, I will call their parents!  One of them even got up from the table where we were working and laid down on a love seat in the classroom and yacked with the other one the whole time!  I think having 4 different teachers (with probably different methods of keeping order) is part of the problem.  At the end of the semester if things haven't improved, I'll tell our C.E. director (who is a wimp!) that I can't teach the class effectively and she'll just have to get someone else. She even came in and started a video which none of the students watched toward the end of the class.  Times have changed since I was teaching school AND Sunday School classes every Sunday!

Darlene, I was very upset about the older kids in the class.  It's for 3rd -5th grade kids and the younger ones listened and then worked on crafts, but the older 2 just were totally disruptive!  I think having 3 grade levels in one class is not a good idea!

Not much else going on here today.  After my shower I'll probably read until time to fix lunch.  Jane, if you're on the road, safe driving!  Take care, Buddies.

Sue

SharonE

My cleaning girl just left and I'm still waiting for the compliance lady to come look and see if what we are doing is satisfactory. Otherwise nothing going on. I think I am going to start reorganizing stuff in my den. It is the pits right now.

Sue, John cut our azaleas back a couple weeks ago, but we don't have that many, not like you do, plus ours are the encore kind and small, not the big ones.  Discipline was one of the reasons I quit teaching the 2nd graders' SS class. The girls were fine, but the boys were a handful. We taught every other week and I just didn't think there was enough content in the curriculum either. It was mostly crafts.

Darlene, I'm sure your brother appreciates your help with his injections.  From what I have heard, the nursing homes really like music and groups who come in and perform.  Kudos to you for being part of that.  I am not musical at all!  And with my hearing problems, I don't appreciate a lot of music either.  Did you ever get hearing aids?  I remember you were talking about it quite a while ago.  Hope it cools down for all of us!  Although, it is hovering just under or at 90 here, so it isn't unusual. The high humidity gets me though.

Mary, where are you?  And Jane, hope we hear you are safe at home soon.

Hi to Jeanne, Marilyn, Ginny, Joy and any others I've forgotten.  Sharon

Cottoncandy

Hi Sharon...yes I did get hearing aides...helps a lot..Darlene

maryz

Hi gals!  I'm here and okay and keeping up.  Just nothing much going on.  I knit or play around on the computer or read.  My partner and I did okay last night at duplicate - came in in the middle, but got about 1/2 silver MP (Sharon will understand).

Darlene, glad the hearing aids are working for you.  We have music programs here several afternoons a week.  The residents seem to like them a lot.

Sue, your yard work certainly gets you outside and active.  At our age, any movement/exercise is a good thing.

I don't remember when jane was due to be home.

I applaud all of you who do any teaching.  I can teach something I know on a one-to-one basis, but could never handle a class/group.

We had our usual "Resident Menu Planning" session with the chef this afternoon.  There are usually only 3-4 of us - and we have a good time.  He's very willing to listen to us and takes our suggestions to heart.  If it's not possible (or legal or dietarily [sp?] feasible), he tells us so and explains why.  No other meetings or appointments scheduled this week - just swimming class.  I should get lots of knitting done.

Happy Tuesday, Buddies!

We had a safe trip home, with rain off and on.  Today I had my first rheumatology appt and it went well, I think.  Both the ARNP and the MD think I have pmr (polymyalgia rheumatica) and so did a blood test to see what my inflammation number is.

He also wants me to have a bone scan, which I've resisted since I didn't want to be on Fosamax or any of those other drugs.  He said,,,please take the test, and then we'll talk.   8)  So...ok...

The Masons are having a social event tonight at the Brewery....pizza and chicken and time to socialize.  I'm tired, but I'll go down for a bit, and that'll at least take care of supper.  ;)

jane

Cottoncandy

Hi Jane...that's exactly my thoughts...don't want to do bone scan...because don't want to take....fosamax...or treatments offered....my last one didn't show much change...Darlene

Cottoncandy

P.S.  My sister in law does the drip...don't know why cause she has heart problems and I would think too much calcium not good...just my thoughts..,Darlene

jane

He's concerned because I may need to be on prednisone longterm for this polymyalgia...and it's very hard on the bones.  I do take Evista, which helps with osteoporosis, he said, but it may not be enough.  However, I've never had a broken bone, so we'll see. :coolsmiley:

Cottoncandy

I took evista for awhile...good luck...Darlene

maryz

For what it's worth, I've been taking alendronate, which is generic for one of those bone-strengthening drugs. I've been on it for a couple of years now, and I've had no side effects.  I rarely have side effects from medications, though.

I've been reading this evening after cutting back about half of my azaleas in the backyard.  Still lots more to go.  Jon called earlier and he is taking Alex back to Birmingham this weekend.  They'll come up here on Friday and spend Friday and Saturday nights, then go to Bham on Sunday.  If they leave early enough, I'll still be able to get to church if Olyne is going.  I have bridge tomorrow at Terri's, but no bridge on Thursday until the first week of September.

Not much else to report.  Sleep well, Buddies.
Sue

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I've been outside this morning cutting back azaleas in the back yard.  I now have about half of them pruned and hope to get more done tomorrow.  I have bridge this afternoon, so I've knocked off "ship's work" and will shower, shampoo, and read until time to dress for bridge.  I'm "itchy" from brushing against the azaleas and other shrubs back there, so need to get into the shower soon.

Jon called last night and he and Alex will come up on Friday and spend Friday and Saturday nights at my house.  He's taking Alex back to Birmingham Southern U. for his last year (finally a Senior!) and they will leave on Sunday morning, drive up to B'ham, Jon will help him move his stuff in and then drive back to New Orleans.  I'll probably take them out for Pizza Friday night, but will have to think about what to fix for Saturday.

Tim was over to check on me on Monday and my new license plate had arrived, so he put it on my car.   It's a military services plate--doesn't say Navy like the old ones did which disappointed me.  But I think they probably have more Army and Air Force vets here than retired Navy, so they are saving money with the new plate.

I've cooled down now and will shower, shampoo, and read until I eat some lunch and then dress for bridge.  Thank goodness we don't "dress up" for the three bridge clubs!  I think I'll wear my denim skirt and a tee shirt today.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

SharonE

I had bridge & lunch this morning. Had some pretty good rounds but didn't make any $. I came in 3rd, I think. Fun anyway.

Jane, I am now taking a Reclast drip infusion every 6 mos or annually. It is of the Fosomax family, but I had no side effects.  Evista wasn't working for me. I lost 6% bone density in my hip in the last 2 yrs while on Evista.  I took Prolia for a year, but one of the side effects is muscle & joint pain. Not something I need more of, so I only took it a year.  The dr. will give me the Reclast for 2 yrs and then off for 2 yrs and then on again to mitigate the chances of hip fracture or jaw necrosis, both of which he says are rare.  I've never had a abroken bone either, altho I've chipped a couple in falls. I'm sorry you have been diagnosed with the pmr.  No fun. I know you have suffered a lot the past year or so. Were you around Madison with all the flooding? I presume not since you didn't mention it.

Mary, glad the duplicate bridge is still a positive activity for you.  The menu committee with the chef sounds great.

We had a thunderstorm last evening. We needed some more rain.  The new landscaper comes tomorrow. I hope we can get him scheduled and get it done quickly, but I still have to send in the modification request to HOA!  Just a bunch of paper work.

Frances' daughter has sold her house and they moved out today. I went down to say goodbye.

Sue, you sure stay active!  Hope you had good cards.

Nothing else going on here.  Take care.  Sharon

jane

Came in 3 rd today...mixed bag of cards.

My Sed rate is now normal.. 21..so the heavy prednisone did work, apparently.

Doc says Prolia because of his kidney disease.  He won’t be happy with muscle or joint pain, either.

Jane

SharonE

Everything has so many side effects. It's hard to know what to risk.  Glad the sed rate is down.

Off to the grocery and then the landscaper comes at 2:00--I hope.

Back later.  Sharon
