Good morning, Buddies.  I've been dressed for a while, but have been doing laundry.  I just put the last load into the dryer and will go outside to do some pruning while I wait for it to dry.  I don't have anything else planned for the day except football games.  Auburn isn't playing today, but South Carolina and West Virginia U. are playing and I'll probably watch some of each game.

We had more rain yesterday and the shrubs and grass are wet--but I'll just put on my rubber boots and trim the last of the shrubs in the front yard.

Marilyn, thank you for the update on Keith.  It sounds as if his memory has returned and he's eager to come home.  I know he misses his surroundings at home and will be much happier at home.  Keep us posted on his recovery.  Thoughts and prayers for you both as I know he misses you and home.

Have a good day, Every Buddy.  Jane, I hope you're feeling better this morning.

Marilyn, I think I've posted before, but I've read that a UTI can cause , or aggravate, dementia in older folks.  My daughter works in an internal medicine office, and she has said that they see that frequently.  The dementia symptoms can get better when UTI has been taken care of.  Hope all continues to go well.

jane, I hope you're feeling better by now.

Over the last couple of days, we've had 2.5" of rain, and it's cool and cloudy again today, if not actively raining.  Strange morning for me - I got up a little after 6, had some breakfast, and went to the chair to read the morning paper.  About 7, I cranked back in the chair to nap.  Imagine my amazement when I woke up at 10!!!!  I don't think I've ever slept like that when I wasn't sick - and I feel fine.
Oh, well.  It did feel good, though.

Hope all your teams win today!

Marilyn...good news on K.

Cold is still hanging on...and I just walked to town with niece to visit a couple of shops.  I'll rest a bit and then take her out to the other new store here in town, and then I'm in for the afternoon.

SharonE

Marilyn, I'm so glad to hear that K is coming home tomorrow and without the catheter and more alert!  What more could you ask for.  Sweet that he was concerned about you being alone.  I agree on the fact that UTI often causes temporary dementia. My mother had that off and on because of recurrent UTI's.

Jane, I hope the shopping doesn't make you feel worse. Staying home in the warmth sounds better.

Mary, wow, you did take a nap!  However, I sleep till about 8:30 anyway, so don't let myself nap.  We got about 2" of rain yesterday also. We are over 11" above normal rain level.

Sue, glad you're going to be able to finish up your pruning today. Hope your team wins.

Just as I was getting going this AM, Melanie called to talk about TG and Liam's birthday.  She will have 19 people for TG!! I think that is a record.  She also has to work in all her dr appts & tests that are due + dentist and hair before all that. They will arrive back in IN on Fri before TG and we come in on Tues and then all the others will trickle in.  This is the last testing that has to be done on a 6 mos schedule. She is now going to an annual one. Much easier for her. Plus it means that she is probably a survivor long term!  At the beginning, they didn't give her a lot of hope. We talked for an hour and a half, so that shot my morning.

Lori is going to New Orleans on business Monday and hoping to work in some pleasure too.

John gets home tomorrow for dinner. Even though I have been busy, it has been awfully quiet here.  I thought the roofer was going to come today, but so far, no word.  I collected a sack of shoes and shirts to donate to the AMVETS next week. Some of the shoes I hated to give up, but they didn't fit very well anymore. I have arthritis in my feet/toes and they look deformed. Impossible to find nice looking shoes that fit unless they are sandals..  I do have 1 pr of Ecco slip-ons that fit pretty well and are pretty much my winter staple.

All for now. Have a good day/weekend.  Sharon

It's a cold and very windy Sunday here in the Midwest.

Our family left this morning after breakfast.  It was a great visit.  They are so helpful to us...cook one evening meal from their own recipes, and help us.  Don helped Ray get his scooter winterized and buy and install a new battery it needed, and did some outside work Ray wanted done.  They strip their bed and asked for the other sheet set and so it's all clean and ready to go.  With my cold and not feeling the greatest, that little extra help is much appreciated!

I'm still not doing much and taking today off from chores.  Laundry can wait until tomorrow and only "must do" I have this next week is my cancer surgeon appt on Tuesday for the physical breast check.  Dr. Ott and I have been "meeting" like this for 30 years now.

We're eating left overs and watching football today.

Jane, what wonderful guests to have!! I'm sorry you still aren't feeling better, but I suppose colds heal in their own time. I have a question for you or for others here who may be 80 or nearly. When I got my mam report back this week (all good), they said that studies indicated that very few women after age 80 get bc and that they wouldn't be sending me a card next yeat, but that I could talk to my doctor and get an order if he deemed it necessary.  Have any of you had this notification?  I know it's been almost 18 yrs since I had it, but I'm not comfortable with not getting a mam until I'm at least 85.. What do you Buddies think?

I've been to church and the grocery and had lunch.  John will be home for dinner, so I need to go to the FC and then home to prepare a chicken/noodle casserole to have ready to bake.

I talked to a friend in the Villages last night. We've been friends since 9th grade and were in each other's weddings, but I hadn't talked to her for quite a while.  We had the greatest chat and made plans for me to see her in Feb when I visit Melanie.  She left today for Israel with her church group, similar to John's trip 3 yrs ago.  It is so nice to talk to someone and pick up right where we left off, regardless of how long it has been.

Hi to all..  Sharon

maryz

jane, what wonderful guests!  Really more than that - extra good friends.  Take it easy until that cold is gone.

Sharon, I've not gotten a notice like that, and I'm 82.  Wonder if that's something new.  I usually have mine in about March, so I'll watch for that.

Lots going on next week - PT twice, doc appointment to check blood pressure (higher than usual?), dentist (for that filling), but then I get to go for my mani/pedi.  At least there's something that feels good.   :)

I’m still a few years from 80, but I’d ask whoever your doc is.  I see my cancer surgeon and he always schedules me for a visit after the mammo for a physical check of my chest/ breast/armpits/ mammo scar and neck area.

Having already had BC may change that “routine” for you, Sharon.

They said last week when I had my mammo, that this year and further the report would also talk about Brest density.  Apparently breasts get denser as we age and cancer is harder to spot.  I hope the 3D helps with that.

Cold still hanging on, of course.  It always seems to take a week or so, regardless of what I do or don’t do.  I don’t think the prednisone helps...lowers the immune system, I guess.

Easy day here...some laundry and Ray will do some grocery shopping for us.

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I've been up for a while, had breakfast and cleaned up the kitchen.  I had a phone call recently from the oncologist I've seen for lots of years down in Montgomery because I hadn't come in for my annual mammogram.  Last year Tim took me down there on a Friday--and we were there more than 4 hours--and my oncologist was out of town and his second in command, a woman, checked my breasts.  All was well, but Tim doesn't have the time to take me down there.  I had my mammo here at a clinic about a half mile from me--didn't have to wait long and I will see Kris's oncologist later for an annual check up.  It takes more than an hour down and another hour back from Montgomery, plus by the time I get there, more than 40 other patients were always ahead of me.  I am seeing my GP the first week in December for his annual check-up.

I was 81 in March and no one has suggested that I am finished with Mammograms.  Now that we have a clinic within a little over a mile near me, we'll stick with that until my GP or the mammo clinic suggests I no longer need one.  My insurance pays for it, so I'm happy enough to go in for the "big squeeze"!

I have more yard work waiting--and it's sunny today although chilly--so I'll head outside soon to do some more pruning/cutting back on my azaleas.

Jane, I hope you're feeling better this morning.  I know you enjoyed your company, but it can be tiring, too.  Take care!

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

SharonE

I plan to ask my primary when I go in to see him. I quit going to my oncologist about 5 yrs ago and my primary does the breast exam.  Sue, I think switching to Auburn doctors and clinic just make sense..

Mary, you do have a busy week planned.  I need to get a pedi too, but don't know when I will get around to it..  John didn't have a very good tournament, only won about 10 pts.  No more until the Gatlinburg one in April.  He is easing back on the bridge. Not many partners available with his skills that don't already have a partner. His Chinese friend isn't playing for a while. Apparently his wife is sick or needs him at home. She's not too supportive of bridge.

My cleaning girl is here today and is washing the outside windows. I have a big load of good tops in the wash. We also stripped and washed and remade the bed, putting the duvet cover on my down blanket. It's gotten chilly enough here that it feels good now.

My computer guy is coming tomorrow to solve some printer issues and others. The roofer is coming late this afternoon after I get back from taking John to the eye doctor.  So lots of stuff to get done..

Sue, will you ever finish with your yardwork?

Jane, I hope the cold leaves soon. Glad you're more or less resting today.

Marilyn, how's Keith doing now at home?
All for now. Sharon

Good Morning everyone. I am so tired this morning. I didn't sleep last night due to Keith being up and down and my foot and legs hurting so bad they kept me from sleeping. Keith will be going to ER today  and I hope back into the hospital so I can get some rest. He managed to get his catheter bag caught on the chair during one of the times he got up and it pulled out his catheter too. the medication makes his urine very dark brownish/orange and it i all over the carpet and bed even on him, What a mess to  try to clean up at 4:30 am. I am going to go to my Tai Chi class today, I need that as a stress reliever. Then I will see about getting him back to the hospital.

SCFSue

Good morning, Sharon, and Every Buddy looking in.  I'm still sitting here in my P.J.'s but need to get busy.  It's my turn to have the Thursday bridge group here and I want to make some oatmeal cookies to have on the snack table.  I'm almost caught up on yard work, although all my azaleas (both front and back yard) need pruning, so might get a bit of that done today.  And Sharon, yardwork is never finished here!  Too many trees dropping leaves, etc.!

Jane, I hope you're feeling better today.  Nothing worse than a late season cold!

Marilyn, I am also hoping Keith is doing well at home.  Take care of yourself while caring for him.

I need to get dressed.  I want to get started on baking Swedish Oatmeal cookies.  Last time I made them they were a flop--so I'm hoping that whatever I did has disappeared this time!

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

P.S. Marilyn, I do hope Keith can go back to the hospital for a day or two and you'll be able to get some rest.  Take care of yourself and try to rest, too!

maryz

So sorry, Marilyn.  I hope it all get worked out.  Is there a rehab facility where Keith could go for a while, at least until the catheter can be safely removed?  You need to be sure to take care of YOUR health, too.

Today was a visit to the dentist.  He filled the tooth that I had planned to have removed.  We'll see how that goes.  I didn't go up to lunch.  The area was still numb, my mouth sagged, and any water I tried to drink just dribbled out.  Best to stay home until the anesthesia wears off completely.  ;)

Oh Marilyn, I thought K was going to have the catheter out before he went home.  I'm so sorry you've had such a time. I hope he can get back in the hosp or in a rehab so you can rest.  Tai Chi sounds good too.  :hugs: :hugs:

Mary, hope the filling works!

Sue, oops, I forgot about the leaves.  Since our landscapers do ours, they aren't on our agenda anymore.

The computer guy came and fixed  our connections to the printers and a couple other things, so that took the morning. Then I took a borrowed shovel home to a neighbor and she wanted me to come in and talk, so that took up a bunch of time. I've been running off labels for Christmas cards fromthelist on my little 13" laptop that he got reconnected. Wanted to do that while it was still working.

Now, I'm going to go out and plant some pansies in the pots I couldn't put the nursery pots in. More computer stuff to do later.  Hope you all have a good rest of the day.  Sharon

Hi everyone...we are finally getting nice weather here..Jane you will like it...I had my Dr appt checkup...discussed B/P..he said I could try one called Losartan...generic for cozaar...and either use it or stay on Amlodipine...he didn't seem to think my symptoms,,,fatigue, etc was from the medicine...so haven't decided yet what to do...the amiodipine keeps it in a good range.....Sue you do stay busy..Sharon you to..Im trying to clean out a storage room and get rid of stuff...Marilyn..hugs to you...I remember when my husband was sick...very hard on both of us...but glad I was able to care for him at home...with help....hope everyone is having a good day.....Hi to all..Darlene

Marilyn

He had to go back to the hospital yesterday, Critical going into Septic Shock.  A fecal leak was found  with the fecal matter going into the hernia sack. All that was repaired surgically and he is now in ICU on a ventilator for 48 hours. We will know more after that,. He doesn't want to be on life support, however his  Blood pressure was dropping after surgery so I gave them permission to give him something to bring up the BP. If it doesn't look like he will recover his sons and I will talk and make a decision  at that time.

SCFSue

Good morning, Every Buddy.  I've been up for a while and have dug around and found my Halloween sweatshirt, so I'm ready for Ghouls and Goblins this evening.  I need to put a stool by my front door so I can put the candy I will give the kiddies (and hopefully most of them will be small ones and not large teens!).

I spent yesterday cleaning my oven and baking cookies.  It had been a while since I cleaned the oven and it turned into a major chore.  I'm glad to get that behind me at least for a while.

I need to make some more cookies--I didn't finish that yesterday and still have batter in the fridge which I'd like to get baked today.  I have bridge here tomorrow, so I have to set up my card tables and get the cards out, too.  We've changed the rules for prize money, so I'll have to find the correct change to give the winners.

Have a nice day, every Buddy--and watch out for the ghouls and goblins!

Marilyn, I'm so sorry.  Difficult decisions to have to make.  I'm glad you have the support of Keith's sons.  Our hearts are with you.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Marilyn, I do hope K recovers from all this. My prayers go out for you both. Keep us posted. Glad the boys are supportive. Not always the case in a 2nd marriage.

The roofer is coming Monday and will get it all finished that day including reepainting the spots where it leaked. It was just a little more than the other guy but included more. He seemed very competent and professional and was recommended by our insurance agent whom we trust fully.

I have been out back trying to spray paint my statue, 2 plaster bunnies, and my metal patio table. Fortunately, I had spray paint on hand for all of them.  The patio table was beginning to rust, so repainted it black with a rust preventative. There was a light breeze but it was enough to blow the plastics on the ground up. I have them held down with cans, etc now till they dry enough to move to the patio to finish drying.  Even though I used a chaiar, my back is killing me. I took a tramadol before I went out too.  It's ridiculous how painful the simplest chores are.

I hope everyone is doing well today and that Jane is over her cold.  Hi Sue. YOu sound really busy too!   Sharon

Marilyn

September and October have been very stressful months for me. I am hanging in here doing the best I can. I am so grateful to havbe such a wonderful Therapy/Emotional support dog in my Freckles. She is so good for me. I just love her to pieces.

SharonE

Marilyn, I'm so glad you have her, especially now.  Sharon

SCFSue

Good morning, Every Buddy.  I hope you survived the "ghosts and goblins" last night.  I didn't get very many, so am glad I had my favorite candy for treats as I have a bag of snickers and butterfingers left.  I try to ration myself to only one bar of either every afternoon.

Marilyn, I'm glad Freckles is such a comfort to you.  I can empathize with you.  My dog Stubby who has been gone now a couple of years sure made my life better after Bob died.  I'm keeping you and Keith in my thoughts and prayers.

Sharon, I'm glad the roofer is competent and it sounds as if he'll do a good job.  I know you'll be glad to get that job done!

I have my card tables set up and the "prize" money out, so I'm ready for the bridge club at 12:30.  I made Swedish Oatmeal cookies yesterday which I'll serve with ice cream.  They are usually my go to Cookie, but I had a tough time with them yesterday.  I usually get about 50 out of that recipe and they were so fragile this time, that a lot of them were broken.  I have enough though for one large cookie per player.  I'll have a dish of ice cream, too.

Last night I had only 2 trick or treaters--most of the kids in my neighborhood go uptown where the merchants give out candy.  Neither of the young girls who came to my house live in this neighborhood.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.  Jane, I hope you're feeling better today.

Sue

jane

Marilyn...hope things are better for you and K today.

Darlene...I'm on Losartan, too.  I only take a 1/2 tab everyday...a full one made me feel "goofy," so I use a 1/2.  My ARNP knows that and my BP goes up whenever I'm in a doc office, so I live with that.

Sue...you have so much energy and stamina.  We have a yard fellow who does the mowing and leaf stuff and the landscape people are to come and cut back whatever needs cutting back.  They are so far behind with all the rain we had.  So, whatever will be, will be.  I have finally convinced Ray and that the two walnut trees we have have to go.  He contacted a guy who will take them down after the ground freezes.  I've wanted them gone for a long, long time.  The walnuts are such a mess...and so easy to sprain an ankle on.  The walnut trees also poison the ground for other things we've put in the garden.  FINALLY, they'll be gone come freeze time.

Sharon...your new landscaping looks wonderful.

Mary...and Joy..and Ginny Ann...happy Thursday to you all.

Cottoncandy

Jane..what mg is your BP med.....the Dr prescribed me 50mg....how long have you been on Losartan.....Happy Thursday BUDDIES...Darlene

jane

Darlene...mine is 50 mg, also.  But I only take 1/2 after not feeling good when I took a whole one.

I have gained weight on this &^%$ steroid, and it makes me huff and puff when I walk.  I hope this gets better as I get down to 10 mg daily for a month this coming Tues.   I'm trying to watch when I stuff in my mouth, but when I'm hungry all the time, that's hard for me. :idiot2:

I did walk to the bank today to cash in some EE bonds that expired last month.  I haven't walked in a few days, so that felt good.  Ray's gone out to the golf club and I'm catching up on my Quicken and checkbook stuff.  I've just gotten some papers filed and the folder for income tax tidied up.  With the new tax law, I doubt if our deductions will amount to anything...all go into the one deductible now, I guess.

Back to my Ipad for reading.

jane

Cottoncandy

Thx for the info Jane....it just seem like a big difference from 5mg of Amlodipine to 50mg of Losartan..my med says Losartan potassium...is that what yours is....CC

jane

Darlene...I don’t think you can compare strength of one medication with another one.  I know I have to be careful not to get up too fast or turn too fast or my BP drops and I get lightheaded.  It’s one of the first warnings in the info about Losartan, but I guess applies to other BP meds as well.  I’ve been told some people need 3 BP meds to keep theirs under control, so I’m glad I only need this one.

Yes, it’s losartan potassium so there’s also a warning to be careful of using a potassium supplement with this, unless your doc says to.  The only supplements I take are 4,000 mg of fish oil a day (rheumatologist recommend) and 100 mg of COQ 10.

It looks to be a nice day here, so I hope to get another walk in before the rains come this weekend.

Good morning, Buddies.  I've had breakfast and cleaned up the kitchen.  Tim will be here before noon to take me to the library and to Kroger.  We'll come home as usual and I'll put the groceries away and then we'll go to lunch at Niffer's (I think) and will meet Kris there if she's not painting this morning.

I'm returning quite a few of the library books I didn't read this week.  Too much going on here with Halloween and bridge here yesterday.  I did get 2 Dewey Lambdin naval novels featuring the Revolutionary war hero who has been away from home more than 2 years.  He's a rogue, but a lovable one!

Jane and Darlene, thanks for the info on your meds.  So far I'm not on potassium but do take a heart med as well as vitamins.  I'll be seeing my GP in December and we will review the meds I do take.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

They removed Keith's breathing tube yesterday. His vitals are looking good. They cleaned and repacked his wound but he will  still need 24 hr mursing care until his wound is healed, There is no way I can take care of him at home until he is healed. He is still in restraints just in case he  tries to thrash around, However he is sedated all the time so not much chance of that happening. One of his attendants came in and gave him a very nice shave and used a shampoo cap to wash his hair a bit. (it was getting very smelly) He could understand me when I told him to squeeze my hand and grunted   to answer a couple of questions. I just stand there and tell him everything that is going on at home and other things. I know he can hear me even though he is asleep or unconscious. or if he was in  a coma. the hearing is the last to go in any case.
