Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

Oldiesmann: Found them. They're on the CP site: https://www.christianphotographers.com/recipes/recipeindex.html

Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

GALS!  I had a note from Sue, thanking the BBs and me for the cards.  I will email you privately with what she had to say.  She hopes to be home in a week or two.  Details in the email coming your way.jane
jane - I also sent Sue a card, as she was a regular poster in Library Bookshelf.  I would like to read her email, and would appreciate you sending me a copy. Thank you! :)

jane

I've just sent you an email!!

I haven't rec the email...Darlene

Molly

I've been having so much trouble with my computer recently that it has been a long time since I've been able to enjoy posts here.  Glad to be able to do so this evening.

When I talked with Mohamed recently, he asked how the weather was and how about the temperature in our Concord, NC area.  When I mentioned that we were expecting "really high" temps soon, he replied that it had been more than 120 degrees in Egypt!!!
I haven't experienced weather than high for many, many years!  Mohamed will arrive in the USA next week for a brief two week visit and then return to Egypt to continue grading his University student papers for the past semester, before getting ready for the Fall semester.

Received an email from my son to let me know that he had arrived safely in Korea a couple of days ago for his TWO YEAR military assignment.  It was to be only ONE year originally, but then was changed to two years.  I sent messages to friends in our area (neighbors and Church friends) asking for continued prayers.  He and his wife chose to NOT take his family with him, so that will be another area for prayers.  Talked with my DIL recently and she is OK with the decision they made.

Sure hope my AC continues to work well as I am NOT someone who enjoys REALLY hot weather.

SHARON - Happy Anniversary!  Stay Healthy and Happy as you celebrate!

I just feel so lucky to be living in a small corner of the planet where it never gets life threatening hot or life threatening cold.  Yes, if you are homeless and try to spend a night in January on the street, you might, depending upon exactly where you lie down and what you have to wrap around you, you just might die of exposure.  And if we have, and this is rare, a week in the nineties in the summertime, and there is an apartment block without air conditioning, a very old, bedridden person might expire of the heat.  I cannot deny those things.  But for most of us here, we have beautiful green trees and lawns and fields most of the time, with glorious bursts of late autumn color and fairly mild winters.  As a rule of thumb, whatever you hear Washington, D.C. has, we are a little bit cooler in summer and a little bit warmer in winter than are they.  However, we miss most of their storms.  Their storms tend to head north towards Baltimore, and generally skip us.  If it is a very large front, we might have rain the same day they do, but usually nowhere near as bad.  If you were to pop into a car here where I live, it would take you about 35 minutes to drive to Washington, DC and about 45 minutes to Baltimore.  When Himself was still with me, we often drove to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore to see his doctors.  We did not like those days, but they became quite routine.

so_P_bubble

MaryPage, you are going to make me very jealous... ;D

MaryPage

Well, Bubble, we do have an ever pressing problem with flooding.  Not right here in my building, but our beaches are experiencing ever higher tides, and our very old and very historic City Dock and our United States Naval Academy are under a serious threat of ever rising waters.  This, we are told, is due to Global Warming.  From the collected views of approximately 97% of our worldwide climatologists, I gather that by the year 2100 much of our present coast will be underwater and unlivable.  I think of all those beach houses, most of them quite lovely, that go on and on and on for seemingly infinite miles, and I groan inwardly.  Looked at from the viewpoint of the lifetime of one human generation, it seems quite impossible and impossibly expensive a change to adjust to.  Looked at from the viewpoint of the lifetime of this planet, it seems a mere nothing.  All over this world are places where it USED TO be that there were oceans or seas or vast lakes or rivers.  Places where these are no more.  They say the Sahara was once all green and it was tropical up near the North Pole.  I cannot attest to these things, but I do tend to believe those who have studied them with great precision and attention to detail.  So I will enjoy what is left of my ever shrinking allotted years, with a fervent wish that my species will get their act together and make sensible decisions regarding the futures of these precious babies coming along these days who WILL see the year 2100.

so_P_bubble

In another 90 years?  Well, my philosophy is "after me, the flood".  I won't see it!

jane

I'll send it to you again, Darlene.

MUCH cooler here today, after rain overnight again.  I've opened everything to cool the house down inside.  It's bad for my allergies, I guess, though my new meds are working so very well.

It's to get hot again tomorrow.

jane

SharonE

Thank you, Jane, for the email copy of Sue's note. Wow, she is really going through a lot and if grab bars, etc are necessary at home, it sounds like she will still have lots of residual problems. I'm so very sorry for her. She has always been so active, so I know it will be a difficult adjustment.

It's supposed to be 98 here today which matches the record high. Humidity is in the 60's at least.  So I'm staying in.

I didn't sleep much last night. Went back to bed at 6 AM, so slept in till 11:30 and missed church.  This is about the 3rd time in the past 10 days that I have slept very little. I don't know what I'm going to do about it.

We went out to dinner last night at a small family-run Italian restaurant. Very nice service and good food.  We went with our next door neighbors.

Molly, that's rough that David will be gone for TWO years. I know you will miss seeing him. Wonderful that Mohamed is coming soon. I know that you are looking forward to it.

Mary should be home from the wedding soon. I hope it was a good trip for her.

Jeanne, Jane, Darlene, and Mary Page, I will join you in staying in out of the heat!!

MP, you are indeed lucky on your location and view. Enjoy!
Sharon

Marilyn

I know I posted yesterday. I guess all y'all missed the post

Cottoncandy

Molly. Happy for you to have Mohamed coming for a visit...the news about the mass killing was horrid....seems to be getting worse..Jane I received the message about Sue. Thx.  Very hot and humid..will go to church at six...not much else today for me..Darlene

JeanneP

Marilyn.  Now yes, you have a post from Yesterday. I think that the Note from Sue was posted by Jane a couple day ago someplace.

maryz

I just wrote a long post about my weekend, and was going to copy it and hit the wrong button - Whoosh - it was gone.  I'll write it again later and post it then.  Sighhhhh.

In the meantime, jane, thanks for the news about Sue.  She had a tough time, but I'm glad she's getting the help she needs and the grab bars, etc., installed in her house so she can stay there - at long as she wants, I hope.  Glad you're getting some cooler weather.  Definitely not here - still in the 90s, with alerts to stay inside.

Molly, always good to hear from you.  I'm sorry to hear about your son's extended tour away, but I know it's something his family and you have dealt with before.  It's great that the internet, skype, etc., are there to keep you all close.  And hooray that Mohamed will be there - for a little while at least.

Marilyn, glad you had a good vacation, and hope the next weekend is a good one, too.

Sharon, I didn't sleep well last night, either.  I didn't have the leg cramps the two nights we were gone, but last night tried to make up for it.  I was up trying to walk off the cramps and pain for a long time, it seemed - and that was after the stretching, muscle relaxants, and pain med.  I hope tonight is better for both of us.

Darlene, our friends here from Texas said it hadn't been this hot there yet - of course, they're from Houston with all the rain.  And they thing we have low humidity - and, it is, compared to Houston.  LOL

Jeanne, take it easy with your heat, too.

Hi, Bubble - we love having you hang out with us!

MaryPage, it's been fun seeing your pictures.

I'll rewrite about the wedding later.

Mary do you take Magnesium, I take 500mgs every night and no more leg cramps I also sleep with a pillow between my legs that seem to help too.

Thanks Jane for the  note about Sue.

Sandy and Bubble it is so nice to se you both posting here from time to time.

Molly glad that Mohamed gets to come home for a couple of weeks before having to go back to Egypt. You must inwardly hope that  sometime very soon he won't have to go back. You  must miss him terrible.

Marypage great picture from the drones point of view and you lengthy   details to go with it. I enjoyed that very much.

After church we went across the street to the people's home that fed our cats while we were gone, We gave Don a funny birthday cars and Keith left $30 on the coffer table, they kept insisting they didn't want anything  so he just left it anyway.

maryz

Marilyn, a chiropractor friend suggested I take more calcium at night.  I take 1200 mg during the day.  I really didn't expect it last night, so hadn't taken the calcium.  And I do have a pillow under my knee.  The cramps were not in my calves, but in my feet and ankles and thighs.  It might have been the heat yesterday, too.  I walked to John's tree in the Sculpture Park to show my friends, so that was hot, sweaty, and extra walking.  And I've taken great care to none of those today.  LOL.  Thanks for reminding me, though, and I'll take extra calcium before I go to bed tonight.

jane

Welcome back, Marilyn and Maryz!

Molly...how nice Mohamed can get away from the stress, tensions, and heat of Cairo for a few weeks, anyway.

Sharon...good to find a good Italian restaurant!

All our Southern gals need to be careful in the heat.

Today was a beautiful respite to our previous heat.

The news has been full of the horror of the mass murder in Orlando.  What pure evil that gunman was...to kill and injure so many innocent people.

Rather than print what I wrote in my blog, which turned out fairly long, I'll just give you a link there - and you can read it if you like.

MaryZ I am so familiar with the feet, ankles and thigh cramps. thosse ankle cramps are really the pits and hurt so bad. I've jumped out of bed and couldn't even walk to the bathroom.

maryz

Marilyn, I had those for the first time on my trip with Margaret last month.  Grim!

After a cool and pleasant day yesterday, we're back to the high 80s and into the 90s for this week.

I'll be inside and reading a lot and maybe knitting a bit with the AC on.  The Stanley Cup hockey trophy was won by the Pittsburgh Penguins (whoo hoo) last night and so my TV watching is over for a few months.  :D

Have a gentle week, Babes!

Jane

SharonE

Mary, your wedding weekend sounded wonderful minus the heat of course. I'm sorry you're having the cramping. I am too. I had been taking Slo-Mag, but it just caused too much diarrhea and I had to stop it. I take 1200 units of Calcium with Mag. added, but it doesn't seem to help much.  Too much calcium can cause kidney problems, I think, so I hesitate to take more.  I had no reason to have them Sat. night, but I sure did too.  At least you could blame yours on all the activity of the wedding and know that that wouldn't occur again for a while.

Marilyn, have you gotten Freckles back yet?  I'm sure you're anxious to get her. Nice that you left some $$ for your kitty caretakers.

Jane, we ended up with "only" 94 degrees yesterday and supposed to drop to 90 today with lower humidity.  Around that or a little lower the rest of the week.

John caught the Japanese beetles in time last week when he sprayed. No sign of them left.

I have to go to the vet's this AM to pick up some more liver booster tablets for Bunny.  I talked to the vet Friday. She was amazed that Bunny is still acting normally, so says to continue with the prednisone twice a week and the liver booster. Her original prognosis was that she would have left us by now. The pred has really helped. She even gained back the weight she lost.  What a blessing. We'll enjoy every extra day we get.

The Orlando massacre is beyond words. I feel so sorry for all those involved and their families.  Sharon

Marilyn

Sharon what is the matter with Bunny?  I got Freckles back on Saturday. Katy brought both her dog and Freckles to play day at the dog park for the furry friend dogs.

I am going to get a CT scan on my nose this mornin g, my ENT says it looks like there is a bone spur in my nose and wants to check it out. Then I have a hair color appointment this afternoon so I will miss my Tai Chi class too.

I take 1200mgs of calcium with Vitamin D and Mag. I take 600 twice per day and the extra 500 of mage with the evening dose. I take them with my supper, the the 10mg pravastatin  at bedtime. My last lipid panel said my overall cholesterol was 190.

SharonE

Marilyn, that's wonderful that you cholesterol is so low with a low dose statin.  I can't take statin because after chemo, statins raised the enzyme levels in my liver--not good.  Bunny was diagnosed with liver cancer the end of February. The vet gave her 3 mos maximum, but as she said on the phone last week, Bunny didn't read the medical books!  She is acting normally, eating and drinking well, playing as usual. They did say that there was a 10% chance it was hepatitis instead of cancer which the prednisone would help. It has helped, so don't know if that is the case or not. They said the ultrasound showed the liver completely compromised but without invasive tests they couldn't tell for sure.  Since liver cancer is definitely terminal, I didn't want to put her through that.  Anyway, we're enjoying what time we have with her.

Hope the CT on your nose doesn't show anything serious.  Sharon

                                  SUE!

Woo hoo, I've heard from Sue!  She asks me to give you a shout out for her and to tell you that she is ON THE WAY to recovery and hopes to be home soon!  Oh, what blessed news.

I swear, I have not had a cramp in either leg ever since I read that tonic water would do the trick, and do it almost instantly.  So I rushed out and bought a six pack of those wee small Canada Dry bottles that are only 10oz each, and put them in my fridge to be icy cold for expected midnight or later emergencies. I figure icy cold should mask that bitter taste.  And I've got to tell you, THEY WORK!  Big Time!  Haven't had cramp one since those pesky little glass bottles have been rolling around on the bottom rack there.  I thought I had to DRINK them to make them do their work, but apparently not.

maryz

I forgot about the tonic water, too, MaryPage.  Thanks for reminding me.  I'm one of those weirdos who likes tonic water over ice with lime - like a gin and tonic, without the gin.  I'd like the gin, too, but.....  LOL

This is officially Flag Day!  It is also my daughter Debi's 61st birthday.

Becky just called to tell me that my granddaughter Judith arrived in Orlando yesterday with three year old Mateo (12/12/12) to take him on his first visit to Disney World.  What a time to be there!  I am already getting pictures of him with Donald Duck and a huge blue ant.  I am not familiar with these new Disney characters, but I know Donald Duck when I see him!

Well, Mateo may or may not be old enough to remember all of this, but he hasn't a clue what is going on in that town.

And it is a perfectly scrumptious day here on the bay.  Chip & I plan to go to a great Indian restaurant to celebrate the Debster's big day.  Unfortunately, Debi & Steve are busy with his extremely ill mother, an 89 year old widow who depends upon their looking after her.  Their girls, Kathryn and Maria, have plans for dining in a French restaurant (Debi teaches French) tomorrow, after Kathryn & Ava get back from Ocean City.  Me, I just hunker down here in my own space and gather the news of all the goings on.

jane

Hot morning greetings, Gals!

MaryPage....so glad you heard from Sue, too.  Yep, Flag Day and my Ray's birthday too!  He's 81 today.

Maryz...hope you got rested up from your weekend.

It's so hot and humid here again...another inside day.  I think I'll continue some of my touchup painting.  I took my "formula" for color to the place I'd bought paint and the owner...who's a former neighbor and he used to do our snow removal when he was in high school...mixed it and wasn't happy.  It was much too white. So, he had me paint a piece of wood with the old can's contents and bring it in Monday.  They "flashed" it with some kind of computer thing and it came out a whole different "formula" and it matches perfectly!! Whoo Hoo.

Stay cool.
