Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Freckles looks and smells great. Today I will be working at the hospice office for a couple of hours. The caregiver/housekeeper called and was going to ER about her blood sugar. She has more trouble with her Blood sugar.

SharonE

Marilyn, I hope the caregiver's BS problems don't cause her to stop working for you.  Give pretty Freckles a pat from me.

I'm back from the audiologist and got the new aids. I love them!  If one can say a hearing aid is cool, these are. They have a volume control on the back and they are bluetooth connected to my smart phone. I can answer the phone by pushing the back of the right one and hang-up with the left one. Don't need to hold the phone or anything.  One hearing aid acts as a receiver and the other as a microphone!  So far, there's no tinny sound and I can hear well. She adjusted it to my hearing test results.  They've changed a lot in 6 years! I really recommend Phonak as of now.

Jane, tell Ray that hearing loss accelerates loss of memory if you don't wear hearing aids.  Probably won't do any good if he's like John, but you never know.  John does wear his though.

I got some upright Lantana for my garden on the way home.  Sharon

SNOW here this morning....aaaccckkkk!  It did warm up enough to melt it, so that's good.  I'm going to go to bridge tomorrow...hope I remember how after 4 months of no play.

More errands finished up today.  I even got through the mail...and separated out the tax stuff from the other stuff.  There will be lots to file.  Maybe this weekend, I'll begin to tackle the tax stuff.   :-X

Good morning, Buddies.  It's 10:30 here and I'm still sitting here in my P.J's!  I just can't seem to work up the energy to get going this morning.  When I finish reading the posts here I will get dressed and out for my morning walk.  I'll have to get up earlier tomorrow--my Thursday bridge club is meeting at Bonney's at 12:30.  I need to call Olyne and see if she'll pick me up.  Bonney lives west of us and we'll have to drive south on Dean Road and turn off the freeway after a mile or two.

Not much else to report.  I'll get dressed soon and get out for my morning walk.  Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Sue

SharonE

Jane, glad to hear that your snow melted.  Sounds like Carolina snow. It is to be 70 here this afternoon after snow yesterday AM.

Sue, I'm with you on moving slowly today. I didn't get to sleep till 3 AM, so slept till about 10:00!

I am up and dressed and have put the flowers out in the garden where I want them placed. John says he will plant them this afternoon.  Other than that, I don't have much planned.  Hi to all. Sharon

maryz

Happy Wednesday, Buddies.  It's a gorgeous day here today (except for humongous pollen count, of course).  And predicted to be near 80 by the weekend.

One of John's nieces is in town for the day.  Margaret is coming over, and we're going to meet them for dinner tonight.  I'm looking forward to seeing them.

Things have been getting shaken up around here - always lots of drama.  But I think it's going to get better.  The Maintenance Director was fired a couple of weeks ago, and the #2 guy promoted. The Executive Director was fired last week and escorted out of the building.  She was replaced on an interim basis by the current Finance gal.  We had our regular residents' meeting this afternoon with the new staff, and it went great.  Both of the new folks are making themselves totally accessible and open, and the rest of the department heads seem to be quite enthusiastic about all working together.  This bodes well for all of us, I hope.  We're still in the throes of renovation/construction, but are back into the regular dining room and lobby - and they are lovely spaces.  There's still a lot to do, but at least we're seeing and using some of the fruits of the labor.

Have a good rest-of-your-week, Buddies!

Mary...there seems to be a lot of drama everywhere.  The CEO of our hospital was fired and his #2 also fired the week before by the CEO several months ago.and now state audit shows $257,000 misspent.
Pollen counts are slowly rising here, too.

Sharon...looking forward to it being warm enough to buy flowers.  WalMart has pansies and poor babies look cold as they sit on their outdoor shelving. :-\

Sue...looking forward to dry and warm days for a walk outside.

Bridge yesterday was good.  Today a much needed haircut!

With the rain and 38 degrees, it will be an inside day for me after the haircut.

Jane

SCFSue

Good morning, Every Buddy.  It's a bright sunshiny day here in Auburn.  It's a little cool this morning, but will get warmer as the day proceeds.  I am playing bridge at Bonney's home at 12:30.  I'm still in P.J.'s but plan to dress soon and will try to finish a book I started reading yesterday.  Olyne will pick me up--she told me she may be a bit late as she has a meeting this morning, but we'll get there in plenty of time, I'm sure.

Sharon, what will John be planting today?  I haven't started planting spring/summer flowers yet, but will soon.  However, we'll probably have a couple more heavy frosts before I do that.  My azaleas out front are in full bloom and are lovely.  The azaleas in the back yard have some blooms, but aren't as nice.  I didn't water them as often as I should.  Dragging hoses around the back yard is quite a chore!

Mary, what fun to have John's niece and her family to visit today.  I hope you have a lovely time catching up with them and a nice dinner out.  I hope the shake-up at your residence facility will be a positive one for all of you.  It's great that you are now back in the regular dining room and everyone seems happy with the change.

Hello to all our Buddies looking in.  I hope all is well, especially with Ray and Jane.  Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Sue

P.S.  Jane, you were posting while I was writing this.  Enjoy your haircut and stay inside afterwards if the weather is not great.

maryz

Hi Buddies!

We had lovely visit last night.  We ate at a local BBQ joint ("authentic local"), and it was SO good. And really just nice to catch up on family and their trip.

I went to pick up my new glasses this morning.  Amazingly, she didn't have to do anything with them but clean them - they fit perfectly the first time.  I'm pleased with them. Nothing else going on around here, except for bridge this evening here.

Happy Thursday, Gals!

SharonE

Mary, sorry for the admin. drama, but hopefully it will be much better now. Glad you like the new dining room.  It's so nice to get together with family you don't see often--or that you do, like your daughter.  Lots of pollen here too.  I had a major sneezing fit last evening after being outside. I take 1/2 Zyrtek and some Flonase at bedtime, so that helps, but not completely. Glad your new glasses fit well.

Just odds and ends to do today. I did fill the bird feeder ad water the pansies yesterday.  Sharon

Sue, I had John plant upright lantanas in orange & gold. They are supposed to be deer resistant and we've never had trouble with them. They are also considered perennials, so hope this is a one time thing.  They are still little, so it will take some time to really make the bed look nice.  The pansies that the deer sheared off came back and are beautiful.  My pansies go in in Oct and out in May. They take cold a lot better than heat.  I will have to get some annuals for my pots in May.  I just can't get down on the ground to plant any and John is having trouble too.

There was just a mama bluebird at my window feeder.  Still no hummers yet.

I'm just back from the grocery and beat.  John is playing bridge through Sunday at Charlotte, but home to sleep. I hope he does well.  You too, Mary.

It's supposed to be 70 today and down to 50's & rain tomorrow, then back up to almost 80 by Sunday!  Crazy place to live.

jane

It's still chilly here and the wind is very strong out of WNW...so being outside isn't very nice.
I did get a much needed haircut and it feels and looks so much better.  6 weeks is twice as long as I usually go between cuts, but I didn't know where to go in Harlingen.

I also took back the birdfeeder I'd bought Tuesday.  It didn't have a hole in the bottom to fit over our pole, and there were no baffles small enough for me to hang it on a Shepard's hook.  So...back it went and I got one with the hole and a separate suet basket.  I think that'll work.  Cashier said she saw finches at her feeder, so I put out mine and we'll see.  I also filled the big round feeder for the little birds.  I use Safflower in the new feeder for the cardinals and it keeps the crows away as they don't like safflower, I'm told.

Home now to be inside and work on my family bookkeeping.

Cottoncandy

Hi everyone...the temp today is almost 80 degrees...I walked this morning while it's still cool...Sharon what seed do you feed the bluebirds. I'm trying to attract them to my yard...I do have the hummers finches and Redbirds...I'm wanting to find a solar water wiggler for my birdbath....not much going on with me...do have appointment to get lowlights to my hair next week...may be my last time...just embrace the grey...Hi to all Darlene

JeanneP

I think I am going to give Technology a rest. Very little is working . My WiFi , Both tablets and now My Ipad gone to blackWill not open. Was fine yesterday. Women voice says Activation needed. Power Locked. Same on the Amazon Fire. Google seems to be causing most of the problems. Just wrote a large posting in S and Net and then it just went back to my home pages on desktop.I am just going to post this part before same thing happens
JeanneP

JeanneP

I am back. Before the Ipad went black it came up say Locked as someone was in my acct. Using registeration for try to find missing phones and I will have to reactivate it all over again. Thing is I can't open it up and now idea were the notes are from the start of it in order it reactivate it .Can't get it system at all. The other things just come up say No activation and can't fine Server which is myComcast.  They were all working fine 2 weeks ago. My title was on the list for WiFi and worked for years. Now it has vanishing off and a name come up say ComcastWiFi and it is only 200 ft away. Something must have been set up around me. I will call them soon but just know I will get India or Mexico. They ware me out. Takes hours and get know-place

maryz

Jeanne, hope you can get some help for your iPad.  Do you have an Apple store near you?  You could take it there and let those folks help you directly.

Darlene, I'll answer about the bluebirds.  They're not so much seed-eaters.  I get dried mealy-worms for my bluebirds.  They love them.  Kind of yucky looking, but dead and dry, so not really as ooky as it sounds.  :) Also, not many of the other birds like them.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

Cottoncandy

Mary I will try that...thank you....my problem is the doves eat everything before others have a chance....

maryz

Darlene, I put mine in a flat, hanging feeder.  The doves really don't do well at hanging feeders - they like stuff on the ground - at least the ones around here do.  Good luck.

Good Morning Every Buddy. Raining again here typical in Oregon, the weather can change in 5 minutes.

Not much going on here, going to the gym  in about 30 minutes s soon as it is light enough to drive on the side of the hill. Then Tai chi at 10. Music practice at 4:30.

Grocery Outlet is having their 20% off wine sale, I bought 4 bottles on Wednesday I think I may go  get 4 more to  store. That should last the rest of the year. maybe?
;D

Cottoncandy

Mary...I've tried the hanging flat ones...the doves get on it and it swings therefore spilling the feed

SharonE

Jane, sounds like you will have happy birds!

Jeanne, I'd definitely take all your devices in to a computer repair store that you can trust.  Sounds like an all out attack on you. Of course, Comcast may be the culprit. Contact them first. I wish you luck.

Marilyn, I just couldn't stand the rain in Oregon & WA.  Hope you get your exercise in.

Darlene, you can get the water wigglers at Wild Birds Unlimited. They probably have an online website, but if not google them.  The feeder I used for mealy worms is meant just for bluebirds. It is small and has an adjustable dome that you can lower to keep out the big birds.  That said, I have an acrobatic mockingbird who managed to get into mine and ate all the mealy worms, so I took it down. Maybe you don't have mockingbirds.  Doves definitely could not get into it. I'm sure Wild Birds have those feeders too.  They also are good at giving advice.  We are lucky to have a new one open across the street in our new mall.

Where's Sue this morning?

I have to wash my hair and style it and then have a funeral visitation this afternoon followed by an 80th birthday party. John is playing bridge of course.  Sharon

We don't have a Apple store like the have in the big cities. Just a few that sell the Ipads and Phones and other things Apple have. I just called best buys that are the largest for selling and have the Geek Squad for computer repair. Going to give the IPad to them Monday and see what if anything they can do.  Should be that my books and photo's that are on there could transfer when buying another IPad. Will not be right now. Just bought the New Auto and enough spent for a couple months.
I think what is wrong with the other 2 tablets is the WiFi. Will have to get onto EXfinity when I have 2 hours to spare. Usually takes that long with the overseas. I did put a phone call back request in for Sunday at 11am for them to call me. That does not work most times. Not in the mood to mess with Technology at the moment. I think it is going crazy. They are just trying to do to much and each company trying to outdo the other. Its all about Money.
Did you see that  the Amazon owners got a divorce the other day splitting up theirs. What is it they have.  78 Billion Dollars. She getting 25% and he75%  Thats Billions.  Yet lawyers of hers not happy. How can 2 people need that much when others have nothing.

Jeanne...it sounds as if you have working "wheels" again.  Now, no racing down the street or "scooping the loop."   :2funny:

Mary, Sharon, and Darlene...I just saw those dried worms in the Farm Fleet store yesterday while I was looking for a new bird feeder.  NOT attractive to look at, but apparently tasty to blue birds.   :coolsmiley:

I had to replace my wooden feeder I put safflower in for the cardinals.  The plexiglass sides had cracked, etc.  I ended up having to get one that looks like an old-fashioned "corn crib" for the farm girls here.   :coolsmiley:   It's round, a wire looking center and the top is meant to look like galvinized metal {?}

Have a good Friday night!

I guess this was in the news in January, but I was busy going to hospitals and doc offices with Ray.  I wonder how many more of the top 1% are guilty of improper financial dealings. This guy involved in 1 BILLION dollar fraud

https://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/article225176275.html

Incredible!

AND he's part of the bribery to get his kid into a 'great' school.

jane, seems like those super rich folks think that rules don't apply to them.  Sighhhhhh

Jeanne, glad you've got wheels again.  The Geek Squad is supposed to be pretty good.  I hope they can help you.

Duplicate this afternoon.  Terrible cards, and I played terribly - made several just non-thinking, bone-headed mistakes.  I hate it when that happened.  But we didn't come in last.  :)

It should be a quiet weekend.  I hope so.  I'm almost through with this afghan, and I'm tired of doing them.  Ready to get on to something else - just some hats for a while.

Happy weekend, Buddies!

Good morning, Every Buddy! Yesterday was a horror.  My fridge stopped running overnight and everything in it was spoiled.  Ice cream melted, food smelled terrible, etc.  Tim had arranged for his friend Eddie to take me to the store and do errands while he and Kris are in Minneapolis for the final four.  So the first thing we did was go to a store to buy a new fridge which they happened to have in stock and brought it out installed it.  It started running and all seems to be well--but I'm $1,000 down now.  Eddie stayed with me most of the day and helped me clean out all the spoiled food in the old fridge.  Some days just aren't PLEASANT!

So I'm hoping for a much better day.  Our AU Tigers are playing in the final four today in Minnesota (I think it's Minnesota!) and I'll be watching.  I'm very proud of our guys and hope they do well with no injuries!

Have a nice day , Every Buddy.
Sue

maryz

What a disaster, Sue!  It's was great that Eddie was there to help you deal with all of it.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

jane

Sue...Yikes!  What a mess for you. So glad Eddie was there to help.  But you had a bright spot....Geno got beat by Muffet!   :D  Sunday's game should be a good one.

Mary...some bridge days are like that for me.

It's to be warmer today...high 60s...and Ray wants to try walking the driveway.  Our yard guy was here yesterday and back today.  He does our neighbors yards and the rental house they have next door, so lots of blowing and mowing between everything.

Jane

SharonE

Sue, I agree with Mary on how wonderful it waas to have Eddie's help. It must have been awful.  Hope AU wins.

Mary, quiet weekends are often needed!  Hope you get the afghan done soon.  Too bad about the bridge. John hasn't had much luck this week either. Decided not to play tomorrow.

Jeanne, the Geek Squad is usually pretty good. Hope they can get it fixed up.  What kind of car did you get?  Did you trade or donate the old one?

The visitation was sad yesterday, but was glad I went to support Tammy. She's had a hard life and fairly recently divorced.

The party was okay. I only knew 3 other people who were from our SS class. The food was good and the hostess sent home 2 plates for John so I didn't have to cook.

I'm fixing meatloaf tonight though. He'll be happy with that. I still have 2 in the freezer.

I have a load of laundry in and have emptied & loaded the DW, but that's about it for constructive activities today.

Jane, is Ray gaining any strength?  Your bird feeders sound like fun. His walking the driveway should help.  Our landscapers mowed this week for the first time. So nice to have someone else do it.

Mary, have you gotten any flowers or feeders out yet?
Sharon

maryz

Wonderful basketball news, jane!  Thanks so much for sharing. I saw Muffet on the news last night complaining about the lack of women coaches/staff and how she only hired women on her staff.  You go, Girl!!!

Sharon, I put the feeders out, but now have to fight the squirrels and chipmunks.  I'm going to ask Jesse to think about a design for something I could reach to fill, but that the critters couldn't get.  May not be possible.

Good morning, Every Buddy.  Our AU Tigers lost last night to Virginia by 1 or 2 points.  It was pretty devastating to our fans, but I'm proud of the way the team played and am glad they made it this far.  Hopefully, next year!

Olyne will pick me up for church today.  We are skipping the 6 week class for adults which is totally boring and everyone is sitting at a round table with others who monopolize the conversation.  I don't know which of our 3 pastors will preach today, but they are all good speakers and always have interesting sermons which are not too lengthy, so I will be happy that I was able to go.

Mary, I'm with you on support for Muffet McGraw and other great female coaches.  I wish other fans were just as supportive.  We've had some really good female coaches here at AU--and some good wins against the greats.

Sharon, I'm sorry about your friend's loss.  It was probably especially hard since the recent divorce.  If Eddie hadn't been here to help me out I don't know what I would have done.  He took me to a store where they had a new fridge on sale which I bought and they delivered within an hour.  And they took my fridge away--so all was well with that.  And Eddie stayed with me until all was taken care of.  Since all the food in my fridge was spoiled I made PBJ sandwiches and we ate while we were waiting.  He's a really nice man and Tim has arranged with him to take me shopping on Friday and also to the bank if I need to go there.

Jane, I was yelling like crazy when Muffet and her team won!  Geno is enemy #1 in my opinion--such a sarcastic and despicable yeller, IMHO!  I wish he'd retire, but I think he'll hang in there long after I'm gone.  I hope the walking in your driveway helps Ray get his strength back.  Keep us posted.

Hello to Every Buddy looking in.  Have a happy Sunday!
Sue
