Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

Oldiesmann: Found them. They're on the CP site: https://www.christianphotographers.com/recipes/recipeindex.html

Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

No, Darlene, nobody told me anything about metropolol, except the pharmactist who suggested taking it at night to lessen any side effects.  I'm taking so many meds now for this cold and cough, it's hard to know what's causing my drowsiness, etc.

Marilyn

Darlene, no my dr didn't tell me anything like that. Just if the BP is under 100 not to take it,

SCFSue

Good morning, Every Buddy.  Jane, I hope you'll feel much better today.  It sounds like you've been having a tough week.  Enjoy your recliner and take it easy.  Keep us posted--I hope you feel much better today.

Marilyn, good luck with your pre-op exam.  Keep us posted.  Thoughts and prayers for a good result for you.

Hooray, Jane, that you don't have a sore throat this morning.  Keep us posted and take it easy!

Sharon, it sounds like you have a busy week ahead of you.  I hope you can find time to rest and relax.

Hello to Mary and other Buddies looking in.  I hope every Buddy has a good day.

So far today not in the mood to do anything. It's sort f cold and no sun yet. Saying rain. Think will just play. Read. Tv. Eat. And stay in pj.

Glad your cold behind you and better Jane. Maybe that will amune you for winter. That seems to be My way . I get one right after taking flu shot and then that is it for winter. Hope same this year.

Hi Gals. Yesterday, I went to a SS member's funeral. Then it was John's birthday, so steak for dinner.

I received my mobile alarm system yesterday and have that all set up. It comes with a lockbox on the frontdoor that holds a key and has a combination.  Today, I walked to each of my next-door neighbors to give them a copy oof the instructions, the code, and our children's names & phones, so they could notify them and also get in the house to help me. Also, the ER could get in. I'm not thrilled with it, but think I should have it.

Nothing going on here today.  I'm glad Jane is better and I hope you all get your BP meds straightened out. Jeanne, it is about 70 here and a little overcast. Rain predicted tonight. Marilyn, hope all goes well with the preop and only 1 stick!

Have a nice day all.  Sharon

jane

Another overcast fall day here and windy.  I've gotten out my hat...need to keep my ears covered in the wind or end with earaches. I'm such a little kid, sometimes.   :2funny:

I called my neighbor, Kathy, who's been sick with this upper respiratory stuff too, to see if she needed anything from the store. Her husband and son are on an Honor Flight today to DC.  She had to  get out to go to the doc again, so I got to WalMart, got another 'script, some groceries and I'm set for the rest of this week.  I'm feeling much better today...just the lingering cough...and hope to get to bridge tomorrow.

I'm getting lots of reading done.  No energy to do anything else.

jane

JeanneP

I havnt done anything today. I had quit taking naps like I had been doing all the hot summer. I found that I was not sleeping as good at night once I quit. So today even got under sheets . Slept so good but took 1 hr. 45 min. Let's see what happens tonight.
Seems to be getting dark by 6pm so I will go shopping tomorrow now.
Dr. Not called me yet on the blood panel I took. Look for that back tomorrow. Feeling really good these days.

Hi buddies...been hot here today...supposed to be stormy and cooler tomorrow...Jeanne glad you are finally feeling better...is the lorsorton the only BP med u are taking?.Im so tired of worrying about mine.....have good evening

Good morning, Every Buddy.  I've had breakfast, read the paper, and cleaned up the kitchen. I'm waiting for Bill's first wife to arrive sometime this morning.  She and I are still friends although Tim thinks I shouldn't be.  I am very fond of her despite the divorce and am glad she's in town and will visit me today.  She is in town with a friend who has an appointment with someone at AU, so we should have time for a nice visit.

Not much else going on today and it looks like rain for most of the day.  I will try to get out for a walk if the weather clears up.

Jane, I hope you're on the mend and feeling much better.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy!
Sue

Marilyn

Good Morning every buddy. I hope you are all doing well today. It is raining a bit here but I took Freckles for an early morning walk anyway. This morning I am going to my Alz caregivers group meeting. the afernoon I am taking Keith to the ENT  for  that lump in front of his left ear it has gotten bigger over the last year and both the Dr and I a re concerned about it.

As for me I am doing OK.

SharonE

Hi, Gals.  Jeanne, glad you're feeling so much better. I try not to take naps, but since my fall, I often just run out of steam in the afternoon and have to sleep.

Darlene, hope you get your meds figured out.
Sue, how nice that you have remained friends with your ex daughter-in-law.  I hope you have a lovely visit.  I think it all depends on the reasons for the divorce, etc.  I wouldn't give Lori's ex-husbands the time of day, but they were abusive to her.

My doctor's appt is finally today. My neighbor is driving me there. I pray that he lets me drive now and that he says I don't need the 1 Gabepentin I'm still on. I imagine I'll have to have another urine test to be sure the UTI is cleared up, which I'm sure it is.

Nothing else going on today. It's rainy and cool.  Jane, hope you continue to improve. Marilyn, I hope the lump is just a cyst. Let us know.  Sharon

jane

Bridge today was a bust for me... bad, bad  cards.

Going to watch some hockey tonight, I guess.

I sure hope my energy comes back soon.

Not ready for winter.had to go out early today. So cold 33 deg. Only want to 49 and with the winds still felt like 30. Dug out a winter coat and hat.going to try and not stick in the house all the time in winter. So easy to do.
Candy? Yes the BP pill is the only drug I take. I think you and I worry to much if we don't have a good one all the time. Dr. Tell me that. I get to him all the time . I am going to try and stop taking it 2 times a day. And stick with what I am doing now. I feel pretty good. Just did not like the dizzy and balance problem. That's gone. I will try and get with him Friday an see how all the blood testing came out. Then will try to relax on the BP for awhile. I need to get more involved in something new this winter. I think Borden is getting to be a problem for me.
I use to spend hours on computer. Lots of emailing and such. Bowling . Out  a lot. Last 2 years I think I have lost at least 7 friends that we spent time together. Now this year have really noticed it changing. Even s ad f changed so much.   Just have to now adjust and get busy.
JeanneP

Cottoncandy

Good morning...Jeanne...yes I am guilty of worrying to much about my BP....going to try to quit....so you take your pill twice a day? Hi to all looking in

SharonE

Hi Gals. The Dr gave me clearance to drive and took me off the last Gabepentin. Then the therapist came and discharged me! A good day!

I may go get a mani/pedi today! First since May. I also need to get a new book at the library. The one John brought me is a Robin Cook called NANO.Too much science for me.  I also need to call the nearby therapy place and schedule my dry needling. I hope that will improve the pain on my side/back. Physiatrist suggested it.

Jane, I hope your energy returns soon. In the meantime, rest.

We haven't heard from Mary in a while. I hope she is mending well.

Unless your BP is really out of sight, I'd take the med given and forget about it.  Of course, mine is low.

Marilyn, hope your pre-op went well.
Sharon

Good morning, Every Buddy.  It's cooler and windy here today.  Eddie called me yesterday and asked if he could take me to Kroger today as he is going out of town for the weekend.  I have had breakfast, cleaned up the kitchen, and have my grocery list made, so I'm OK with going today.  I hope he has time to stop off at the library.  I'll return the books I've read, but not get any new ones.  If I finish the others I can walk over to the library on Saturday to return them and get a few more.

Jane, I hope you got some rest and are feeling better.  Jeanne, it's colder here today, but nothing like your low temps.  I did dig out a heavier sweater to wear to Kroger and the library.  It's really too warm for inside in my sweater, but it's pretty windy outside and I'll be glad I have it on.

I've been expecting Bill's first wife to call me this morning.  She'd e-mailed me that she was coming down to AU to see about getting her masters degree in Horticulture.  I hope if she calls while I'm grocery shopping that she'll leave her phone number.

Sharon, it sounds as if you're getting back into the swing of things.  Be careful and try not to overdo anything.  I think you may want to get right back into every thing you like to do and perhaps slowing down on that might be helpful to your full recovery.  Just a thought, but you'll know best what you can do without overtaxing yourself.

Hi To Jeanne, Darlene, Marilyn, and Every Buddy looking in.
Sue

jane

HURRAH for Sharon getting her wheels back!! and DISCHARGED from PT.  You've really made a lot of progress!

As Jeanne said, it's pretty chilly here in the mornings...and only going to 40s some days.  It's to be a bit warmer the next few days.  Time to change the clothes around from short sleeve tees to turtlenecks, I guess.

I'm meeting Joan today in Dubuque for lunch.  I'm looking forward to that. Tomorrow night nephew and wife from WI are coming for the weekend to help me get garden pots put away and things ready for the winter.

jane

Cottoncandy

I forgot to mention...I'm so excited my 3 boys and daughter is coming for the weekend...be so good to have all my kids here.....

jane

Had lunch with friend Joan...and learned she's going to be moving nearer her daughter.  Joan has a lot of heart problems and, like me, has no family near where she is now.  They want her to move up to the Mpls area yet this fall, but it'll kind of depend on what the cardio says after they have a look at her valves, which they think are "leaking."  I guess the reality is for all of us who are alone now and have no family near will have to make some living decisions. I'm not sure I want to make that decision yet, but I need to be thinking about it.

Beautiful day here...harvest is in full swing...soybeans coming out of the fields and corn started, too, to be harvested.

jane

JeanneP

Candy. No I only take the BP poll once a day. I meant that I just test what my pressure is twice. Now I was taking my pills with breakfast time for years but decided on taking before bedtime. Seems to be doing better that way.
JeanneP

maryz

/Darlene, glad you're getting some good visit time with your kids.

jane, glad to hear you're finally getting over your cold.  That's no fun!  It's tough to make decisions, and make them by yourself.  But it's good that you're going to start thinking about ways to deal with the future.

Jeanne, I hope you have a "reasonable" winter.  I know I made the right decision to leave my house, but, like jane, you have to decide what's right for you.

Marilyn, it sounds like you're well on the way to getting your feet fixed.  I know you'll be glad to have it done.

Sue, you're so lucky to have your young friend to take you on your weekly trip.  Chattanooga is just not getting a service called "Drive a Senior", but it's only available to people still in their home (like you...not me).

Sharon, glad you've been discharged.  Take it easy and don't try to do too much at first.  Also, it was good that y'all looked at some of the senior-living facilities.  It's always good to have some idea of what's available, even if you decide not do it right now.

I'm still continuing to improve a little bit every day, but I overdid today.  I needed to go to the cardiologist's office (and see the NP) to get my prescriptions called in to Express Scrips before they ran out.  I couldn't use the bus service here, so I drove myself.  I didn't have any problems with the driving, but I was really worn out by the time I got back.  I think I'm finally going to sign up for Uber, like my girls have been urging me to do.  Margaret will be here tomorrow and I'll ask her to help me then.

My niece (professor of sculpture at UC Davis, CA) is going to be in Chattanooga for a couple of days, giving a paper at some meeting, and she's going to spend the afternoon with me (and Margaret).  I haven't seen her in a number of years, so I'm excited.

Jane ,
It is much easier for me staying here in c/u as I have lived alone now over 50 years and never had family close. Grands went to Univ. of Illinois with one at ill. State . Plus daughter and husband came back for  2 years to U of I after military but then eent back to Texas . Grands lift Illinois after graduating. I traveled a lot and went back to UK 14 times. Family came from there 5 times. I worked 40 years in C/u. Had some long standing friends. Sad though to see all have now past. Just seems that things have gone so fast. I have been so lucky with never having health problems and having great dr.
I just believe I am blessed to have a guarded angel looking out for me. Good idea who it is.
I have always been sort of a loner from young so I enjoy it.
Most of my friends over the years never married . Same with my brothers in u.k so no nieces or nephews. Many of my aunts and uncles stayed single and we lost most of them killed through the wars
So theat now leaves me the final one holding family name.
Maybe I should write a book. None of my family here in U.s interested at all in the past. I did spend 6 years on researching my past families. Can see where my way of being. Comes from. Some where really interesting.
Think I will get back to doing more on mothers side this winter.good way to spend time.

Good morning, Jeanne, Mary, and Every Buddy looking in this morning.  I've dressed for our trip to the library and to Kroger.  Eddie will be here shortly and we'll have a cup of coffee and then head out for my errands.

It's much cooler here today and might rain, too.  Yesterday Terri picked me up and we went out to a new to me housing development to play bridge with our Thursday bridge club.  I won second place (a whole 75 Cents!) and put the quarters in my jar to use the next time I play with this bridge club!

I don't need much from Kroger, but do have some small items to tide me over until next week's trip.

It's cloudy here today and might rain, so I'm going to dig my rain jacket out of the closet and take it with me.

I hope Every Buddy is feeling well today (and Mary, woo hoo on you feeling better!).  Take care, Buddies and have a nice day!

The early part of September I had a Squamous cell carcinoma of the skin removed .  I got a call from the dermatologist's office , am now waiting for approval from our insurance to set up another appt .  The dr. wants to go deeper , so there must still be some affected tissue .

JeanneP

Had another lazy day so far. It is sunny out so should go and buy some paint and do some work outside tomorrow as it is suppose to be 60s
Just making soup at the.moment and will maybe run out when it done.

Proud of you Sharen, sounds like you coming along great. I was not driving car for 5 weeks in last spring. It's awful. Hate thinking that soon will not have driving card. I don't put many miles on and things so close that I could get buy without one. This new car high insurance. Be cheaper taking cab.
After having cars for 60 years though hard to think of it not being at the door. Just hold thinking until day comes. So much to think about as we age isn't there?

alpiner, sorry about the skin cancer and having to have a larger section taken out.  Always best to have that sort of thing checked.  Keep us posted.

Happy weekend, Buddies!

Good morning, Every Buddy.  I'm still in my P.J's, and it's raining buckets outside right now.  I won't be walking outside as I usually do.  I'm planning a lot of reading (with the library books I picked up yesterday) today and tomorrow.

Alpiner, I'm also sorry about the skin cancer and the surgery.  I hope you'll heal soon and have no more trouble.  Thoughts and prayers for a quick recovery.

Sharon, it sounds as if you're getting back into the swing of things.  I hope you aren't overdoing it and taking time to rest when you need it.  Are you back to playing bridge with your friends?

Not much else to report here.  I'm planning on reading one of the library books I picked up when Eddie took me to the library yesterday.  I've already finished one--a cowboy mystery!

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.  Jane, I hope all is well with you and we'll see a message soon.

Yesterday was my 80th birthday and it was so much fun, I think I'll do it again next year! :D I received 3 flower bouquets, 1 from son, 1 from granddaughter, & 1 from a grandson that I'm really not very close to, so that was a surprise. Maybe he is growing up. I also received a "Nothing but Bundts" cake from Melanie, and an edibles fruit bouquet from Lori. Plus calls from all and from another grandson & ggs. I got a message from another grandson's wife that they would call this weekend. Also heard from a sil, and Lynn Lampman for those of you who remember her. That was a surprise. She is still breaking bones and fighting leukemia. What a fighter!

I also drove (YEA) to the library and to get my nails done.  Then we went out for dinner at a new place.  WONDERFUL DAY! Just wish I didn't feel 90 instead of 80!

Alpiner, good you got the spot on your hand checked.

Sue, Eddie sounds like a real find for you and Tim.  Glad you won some money at bridge.  Our club plays this coming Wed. and I am hostess. I am still taking it easy. My back won't let me do otherwise.

Jane, hope you're over your cold by now and can do something fun. We're supposed to get rain today and tomorrow from the gulf hurricane, but it hasn't started yet.

I haven't dressed yet. Need to get moving. Sharon

JeanneP

Sharon
Sounds like you ere well remembered for your birthday. Glad you were back home. You should now start thinking more as 70 years not 90doctor s just got back taking 10 years off you.
Here you would have needed to take a road test driving..

I should have done some work outside today. Was nice. But I needed to go and get the paint and hate shopping on. Saturday's. Will try and get out earlier in the morning and get it done.better leave the Sunday paper in the box. It usually takes me 2 hours to read it on Sunday's and stay in PJs.

Good early afternoon, Every Buddy.  I've been to Sunday School and Church and have come home, had lunch, and am planning on a walk later this afternoon as well as reading library books prior to that or perhaps only one lengthier one.

Olyne called me this morning to tell me she is nauseus (spelling?) and is not able to get to church.  She suggested I call Nancy who also lives near me and Nancy was glad to pick me up and bring me home. I did call Nancy and walked down my driveway so she didn't need to drive up hill.  And afterwards I asked her to drop me off at the driveway entrance.

I'm happy to see Jeanne's post as well as Sharon's (wow, Sharon, you hit the jack pot yesterday!  You're right that Eddie is a life saver for me.  He came by on Thursday as he was planning a trip to Six Flags with a couple of his Buddies.  I'll see him again on Friday.)  Jeanne, I hope you are taking it easy, too, and have a nice week.

Alpiner, I'm also sorry about the skin cancer and hope your doctor got it all.  Thoughts and prayers here for a speedy recovery.  Keep us posted.

Mary, I hope this is another good day for you.  Take care and let us know how things are going.

Is Jane still out of town?  I hope all is well and things are settling down for our Jane.

Happy Sunday, Every Buddy.
Sue
