Good Sunday Afternoon!

And the heat returns...along with the dreaded humidity.

Nothing exciting here...and the week looks boring too...except for doc appt tomorrow morning.   :2funny:   I guess you know you're old when your "life" is doc appts.  Boo!

Stay safe and healthy and keep in touch with us, even if your life is as boring as mine.  We WANT to know you're ok.

Sorry, I've been bad about checking in. Nothing going on around here. My most exciting event is that I've mailed in my request for an absentee ballot. I don't think they mail the ballots out until sometime next month.  I'll get it sent back in ASAP after that.

No new news from this area otherwise.  Always good to hear from everybody!

I saw my NP and then stopped for groceries, came home and ate lunch and went up to the hospital for xrays.

It's so Sizzling HOT here and to last all week.

I posted a Folk Song quiz, in the Trivia Quiz section of Village Clubhouse, the Place for Fun.
Take a look, and take a guess at two of the songs.

SharonE

Hi Gals, going to leave for dinner in a few. Also check the mail and mail a pkg.

I've talked to both girls today which took up half the day!  Melanie's getting settled in the new house and has listed the smaller house there. Lori's office is in the midst of reorganization, so she is unsure of what her position will be later, or if she will have one. Two pharm companies have been interviewing her though, so she may have a new future, although lots of traveling and responsibility.

I haven't done much today except set up an Amazon acct for John.  He fixed my artificial palm on my balcony by drilling holes in the bottom of the copper pot to let the rain drain out.  We did get the clothes folded.

Jane, I think we are all bored. Reading and TV and FB is about all I get done other than household things.

Darlene, walking a mile in that heat is something!

Marilyn, I'm not very good about remembering songs.

Mary, I called for my absentee ballot application and it is in the mail box. I'll get it out this week.

Not much else going on here. Take care and stay safe. Sharon

jane

Sharon...hope dinner was good.  Always tastes better when you don't have to prepare it.

No way did I venture out today. 94 deg. And so humid. Things are now getting to me. Can't keep a mask on longer tan 20 min. Bothering left side of my face to the point of feeling dizzy. Ok if weather in 70s I have a BP test next week. It is o.k but will ask him on idea for face covering. Think it is time to start writing some snail mail to family and friends out of US.  Even family here are being quiet.
Looks like Texas in for some more storms.
Town packed with U of I students today but found lots with the virus. Putting out more rules. Something went wrong with the teaching app. At 8:30am today. My WiFi is awful. But I don't depend on co any tech anymore.
JeanneP

jane

Jeanne...Have you considered a face shield?  I see my medical providers and others wearing those.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/reviewedcom/2020/06/30/where-buy-face-shields-online-and-what-know-before-you-get-one/3284596001/

and I know you can order them online.

Good results on my xrays yesterday.  No fracture in collarbone area and say tendinopathy in shoulder.  So...continue with tylenol for the inflamation, etc.  Chest xray said stable and normal so I'll take that!! :smitten:

Like Jeanne, I'm staying inside this week except to get a prescription I realized I'm out of while filling my two week meds box.

Stay cool, safe, and healthy,

jane

maryz

jane, glad your x-rays were good. I take acetominophen regularly before bed and when I get up during the night - sometimes during the day. Just be sure not to take too much.

Good advice to Jeanne about the face shields.

Nothing new around here.

Good morning, Every Buddy.  I've had breakfast and cleaned up the kitchen, plus read the morning paper, but that's as far as I've accomplished.  I hope Every Buddy looking in is feeling well and has a nice day planned.  Stay inside if it's terribly hot where you live!

Jane.
I did pick up one of the face shields 2 weeks ago? Thing is they are not very clear.poor plastic.
Going up to 97 today. Highest for the year. I will stay indoors.
Glad they took the X-ray and all o.k. Takes awhile for aches to go away.
Thing seem to be much worse in other places with hurricane threats and fires so I am feeling lucky. Finding lots students coming back. Found 640 positive just yesterday. Saw so many walking around . no masks.. It will spread like crazy on campus. Can't tell young what to do. The already know it all.

Last week we had temperatures up to 104F then down to mid 90's .  I have stayed mostly indoors except for church , grocery shopping & dr.'s appts.
Last week I saw the opthamologist for yearly eye exam .  He said I have cataracts & macular degenerstion .  I'm hesitant about cataract surgery because I'm pre diabetic . My Mom was diabetic had cataract surgery & one eye hemmoraged & was blind in that eye afterward .  Mean while the dr. has me taking an eye vitamin...ARED . I will see him again in 3 months .
I'm waiting to hear from our daughter , she has a dr. appt. this morning . She has been having intestinal issues , had a colonoscopy & blockage was found .  But I think we know what the blockage is . Yesterday she passed a 6 inch worm !!  Days before she was passing other nasty stuff .  She has lost 20lbs. in a month .
So I'm sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to hear from her .
This isolation hasn't been good & I have had many depressing days . I try not to break down & cry in front of my husband . He gets upset with me for crying .  However he has been hugging me many times a day to cheer me up .
Yes , things have been rough .  But I'm not the only one going through this now .  My father in law had a bumper sticker that read "Look For The Good And Praise It ."

Cottoncandy

Sharon....I walk early..usually around 72 to 75 degrees....the heat comes about noon....I wear masks when in stores.....but not walking...Hi to everyone looking in

maryz

alpiner, sorry you're having such a tough time with the restrictions. Keep thinking "safety" - if that helps.  Good luck with your cataracts - I'd do what my doctor recommends - my sight is so important to me. Also good wishes for your daughter.

Darlene, are you predicted to get any rain and/or cooling from either of the storms? We're predicted to get some rain from Laura on Friday.

I think we're due to get started with some gradual "release" from our apartments. The activities gal said she's going to start "doorway games" in the next day or so, and then maybe we'll get back to eating in the dining room next week sometime. I hope so, anyway.

Good HOT Wednesday morning, Buddies.

I need to go get my 'scripts at WalMart, but I need my hair to dry a bit more, so I can use a hot roller to bend some shape into it.

Mary...I'm a user of 650 mg tylenol, as well.  She said I could take 3000 mg a day...used to be 4,000 but I guess "they" have rolled that back.  Two of those puppies seems to take the edge off the pain.

The nurse for my NP called yesterday with xray results. I had already read the full report on the patient portal.  She said MRI if I want to see if a tendon is torn in the rotator cuff.  I don't think so now.  Lets see what rest and tylenol does first.  I don't want surgery on the shoulder for pain that's getting better on its own.

Our covid numbers jumped again by 12.  Biggest increase I can recall.  What a world it is...people infected with a virus, hurricanes hitting LA and TX, fires burning up CA, heat sizzling the country from north to south.  UGH!   I think I'll stay inside and watch Good Witch calming my frazzled nerves.

Stay safe and healthy, Buddies!

The Univ. students returning has put our way up again. In last 9 days around 600 tested positive. Yet I saw them sitting on the Quad yesterday or playing things and most still not wearing masks. They are the highest numbers now are in ages 11 -20,580,21-30 515 cases. 31 -40 340 cases. This is what is going to hurt the town. Students. I think it will end up closing things down again.
I need to go out as I am out of Bread and Milk mostly. will again be 91 by afternoon and could go to 100 with humidity.
Looks like our State has now moved the getting License renew  and sticker up to Nov.1. I was April 12 and July 30 for mine so still not bothering as not driving far anyway. Maybe they will let us just get for 2021 soon. I have to take the road test and not going to do it wearing a face mask.
Jane. I agree with you. See if you can take care without any  operation on shoulder. Few I have seen did not seem to work for shoulder pain. I have it one in awhile but pill will help. Now if something broken in yours different. But I think you would know it bye now.

another call on my home line . Robot. this is number 4 already this morning. Make me so mad. Now some are calling for money for things not heard of for last 5 years.
Commercials now on Comcast are just awful. No good shows at all.

Good morning, Every Buddy.  I've been up, dressed and down to Montgomery with Tim.  We were cashing in some bonds and making adjustments to some of my investments.  I'm glad he helps me with this!

We drove to Montgomery and talked to a young lady who helped us work out a good solution.  I hope this will be my last visit to Montgomery for a while!

Not much else going on here today.  I've had lunch since coming home and am not planning to sit down and read this afternoon.  I hope Every Buddy looking in is feeling well and has a nice day planned.

Wow, we're a chatty group today. Jane, I'm glad nothing was broken and hope you won't need any surgery. I agree with your wait and see plan.  I also have a sore shoulder/arm that the PT says probably comes from the rotator cuff, but he gave me some exercises. Unfortunately, they make it worse.

Alpiner, is the ophthalmologist thinks you need the cataracts removed, have him consult with your pre-diabetic dr. before making a decision.

I made an appt with my visiting dr for next Tues and have a list of about 15 things to discuss.

This morning I gave John a tutorial on using the online banking. He really needs to know how to do it. Next month, he will pay the bill with my supervision.

Jane we had coconut shrimp Monday night and chicken enchiladas last nigh. Tonight we will eat in via their delivery.

Mary, I'm glad to hear that things are loosening up there for you.

We all are so bored.  I thought the shield would have been a good suggestion for you Jeanne.  Maybe take a cotton neck scarf and tie it around your face. Maybe you can adjust it better.

Darlene, walking in the 70's isn't too bad. My problem would be getting out to do it early enough.

Sue, I'm so glad Tim can help you with your finances. If we didn't have a wonderful broker that we've had for years, we wouldn't know what to do either.

I need to go organize my meds now. Grrrr. Not my favorite job. Will be glad when the pharmacist starts doing it, but I have to much on hand now.

Stay cool and stay safe.  Sharon

A late good morning, Sharon and Every Buddy looking in.  Tim came over this morning to take me to Montgomery to take care of some bonds I have in the bank there.  We think we took care of it and hope we'll be OK with the ride to Montgomery this morning.  I prefer staying at home!  Not much else going on here today.  I hope Every Buddy is feeling well and has a nice day!

Sue

jane

Alpiner...my  husband was a diabetic and he had both cataract surgery and several years later cornea transplants!  Both were very successful.  As long as the doctors know your existing medical issues, they work with those and are prepared.

Sue...glad you got your $$ taken care of in Montgomery.

Sharon...it sounds as if you have good choices for your meals.

Jeanne...your numbers will skyrocket, I'd bet.  Ours are going up here, too, and school just started Monday.

I'm watering my poor parched flower beds.  They look terrible.  We haven't had rain for weeks.  The yard is brown and crunchy.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

Good Thursday HOT morning.

Same old, same old here in Iowa....hot and no rain.

Nothing planned for today except changing the bed.  Exciting news, huh.

Stay safe and healthy!

Good morning, Jane and Every Buddy looking in this morning.  I hope you are feeling well and have a nice quiet day planned.  I'm hoping for a quiet day and plan to read a good bit.  I think Tim may not come over this morning as we went to Montgomery to take care of some business and I think he'll want to catch up with his regular work.  He does try to come by every day to check on me.

I hope Every Buddy is feeling well and has a good day planned.

Hi Gals. Alpiner, how is your daughter doing? That sounds gross and scary. Where was she that she picked up such a parasite? Stay in and stay cool.

Jane, yes we do have a good choice of food. We had chicken cordon bleu delivered last night and tonight we're going to the Italian room for lasagna. Tomorrow night will be salmon delivered.  It's our choice M-F, Delivered Sat & Sun noon.

Sue, staying in is good!
Hi to Mary, Marilyn and all others.  Sharon

Good. Morning gals ...well the storm came and gone did not affect us here at all...prayers for those who had losses...amazing how strong that wind can be.we are still having 100 degrees almost daily with high humidity...be glad when we have a cool norther...not much going on with me...have a safe and healthy weekend

Good morning, Every Buddy.  I've been up, dressed, read the morning paper and have just been fiddling around.  I am reading an interesting book which I will try to finish today.  It's about a young sergeant who is in the British army.  He certainly gets into lots of scrapes, though!

Not much else going on here this morning.  I hope Every Buddy looking in is having a good day with nice weather.  Take care, Every Buddy!

Sue

jane

Good Friday Morning...another hot one here, too, and possible severe storms this afternoon.  I just hope we get rain, rain, rain, and not storms.

The guy two doors down just roared off on his Harley...and the construction guys are cutting into the concrete curb across the street, so the concrete dust is flying!  Those guys make good money, I know, but I wonder how their health suffers from handling all that equipment and breathing in all that concrete dust and asphalt stuff.  UGH.

Nothing exciting here either...we're going out for supper tonight...the other two couples and me...destination depends on severity of the weather at 5:00 pm.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

JeanneP

Sue. What is the name of that book you just finished reading. Author also
My brother was in the British army for quite a few year. He got in a few scrapes also during the war years. I may like it.
Not as warm here today but still humid. Think may get some rain. I am really bad on doing my housework these days and so going to try to catch up.
Just lost the last of my old friends of the past 50 years on Sunday. Last saw her Christmas time. Her husband had been my handyman for 40 years took care of everything. Passed last year. Beginning to feel lost in town. Waiting to see what paper says. He donated body to Science at the University of Illinois.
Trying to clean up the mess that my Desktop W10 has gotten in. I know very little on how to do it. Just make more mess.

Try to enjoy the weekend. Not been out to eat since March. Not really missing it. The Movie Theatre is opening up today. There are 10 screens in it but I don't know how it is going to work.. I do miss going to there. Will not do it though.

Last I heard (last night), we're supposed to be getting sideswiped by the remnants of Laura this evening. So far today, it's just been cloudy and windy.

Margaret moved the hummingbird feeders closer to my window yesterday, and I've had a couple of hummers off and on all morning. They're fun to watch.

The big news from here is that we're being allowed out to walk in the halls, just not in groups. And the big news is that we should be able to go back to eating in the dining room about 8 September. It'll still be just one person per table, but at least we're taking some baby steps.

The folks I've talked to (staff) who have had the virus have mostly not been too sick. And the two folks on my hall (out of six residents) who have tested positive have not had to be hospitalized. All to the good, I guess.

jane, sorry for all your dust and noise. Stay in and keep the a/c running, I guess.

Happy Weekend to all the Buddies!

Hi Gals. I was a busy bee yesterday and cleaned both baths and mopped the tile in baths and kitchen. Today, I've put in 1 load of laundry that I had left over from last weekend. I finally got Spectrum to accept my credentials and let me put it on auto pay. I thought I already had. Then I took Bunny out, fed her and me. In the meantime, John ate and has started bridge. Now, I'm done for the day other than reading. I've started a Debbie Macomber book called LOVE LETTERS. She writes sweet stories, some of them have been made into Hallmark movies.

Jane, I bet that noise and dust is driving you nuts. It would me.  Have fun tonight.

Darlene, so glad you didn't get any of the storm. The pictures on TV are awful.

Jeanne, hope you get your housework caught up. It's hard for me because of my back, but I can't stand to not have it done. My 20 min cleaning girl didn't show today, so the showers and bed will have to wait.

Mary, do you participate in the door games? They have some things going on at the main bldg here too, but nothing has caught my fancy.

Sue, I'm glad Tim keeps you in books. Enjoy.

Stay cool and stay safe, everyone. Sharon
