Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

I got home about an hour ago.  I left very early from just west of Indianapolis...had to scrape frost off my windshield.  The wipers wouldn't loosen it, so I'm glad I had my snow/ice scraper in the back.  Construction, construction, construction....so glad to be home!

The orange cone things are still up on my street!  They asphalt over the manholes, so they now have to dig those out, concrete around them and put the covers on.  Maybe next week they'll move on.

Looking for a very quiet afternoon and be in bed early tonight.   :coolsmiley:

Take care and stay safe.  Numbers are spiking again here in the midwest.

jane

BEAUTIFUL fall day here...sunny, breeze, and low 70s.  Perfect....and the orange cones are gone from in front of my part of the street.  Hurrah!!

I voted in person this morning...only a short wait...and so that's all taken care of.  I also picked up my held mail, and picked up a few groceries to get me through the week.

I had committed to going with friend Kathy on a Masons Wives bus trip to Galena...a little town in Illinois that gets lots of tourists...on Saturday.    I called her this morning and cancelled.  No bus trip for me for a full day in a town that'll be busy, probably come Saturday.  I'll pay the $20.00 fee and stay home and safe.  Numbers here are rising...and they really are in Illinois...and our high school is now on a hybrid schedule because of numbers.

I'll get my flu shot tomorrow at clinic here in town, so that'll be taken care of.

Just lots of laundry to get caught up on and a bill to pay and then an afternoon to watch Good Witch on the Hallmark Movies and Mysteries channel.  On here now 2:00-4:00 CT.

Take care and stay safe,

jane

SharonE

Jane, glad you're home.  Good call on the cancellation. If the President can get it, we all can if we're not super careful. Good that the orange cones are gone and the asphalt guys!

I haven't done much today. Will eat in tonight and have an appt to get my hair done tomorrow here in the facility. Yea! It really needs it.

Hi to everyone and stay safe.  Enjoy Good Witch, Jane. I like it too.Sharon

jane

Beautiful summer like day here.  I'm off to get my flu shot in a half hour.

My cleaning lady texted me this morning that her husband had a cough and 103.5 fever on Sunday and tested positive for Covid.  He works outdoors full time with the County Conservation Dept.  She's been tested,, too...no results yet...but also quarantined with him, of course.

I need to pick up my allergy meds when I'm out for the flu shot and then will be home.

Nothing else new here.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

SharonE

Got my hair cut and done in the facility salon. She did a good job. We ate in tonight. Have been on the phone a lot today--Lori and a couple church friends. Trying to find out what the best MC D policy is for me this year. Enrollment starts the 15th.

Jane, too bad about your cleaning gal and husband. Hope they don't have serious cases.  My Dr is supposed to come by tomorrow to check on my sleeping and I reQuested that she bring flu vaccine and give us our shots then. Hope she does.

Hi to everyone out there in the silence. Hope all of you are well.Sharon

maryz

jane, glad you had a good weekend, and are home safely.
And that the work crews are finished in front of your house.

Sharon, glad you liked the beautician at your new place. I got my hair cut on Monday here, and she did a pretty good job.

We're scheduled for our flu shots here on 12 October. I checked a state web site and found that my absentee ballot has been received. It took about a week it to arrive and get logged into the system - really pretty good time.

Stay well, Buddies!

Hi everybuddy...thought I best check in...Jane you are home safe..always good to get away a few days..the butterfly's are so bad here..have to wash them off after driving anywhere..Sharon..did the flu shot affect You anyway..I hope to get mine soon...Mary bet you are glad to be done with the voting...I watched the debate awhile last night...be glad when Election Day is over..Hi to everyone..have good day

jane

Good Morning, Buddies.  Another beautiful day here and to go to mid 80s tomorrow!  Then cool down to normal fall temps here.  I went out and watered my new grass patch.  The state did come along while I was away and put down that green foamy stuff for everyone else, but they left mine alone.  The grass is growing there nicely.

Nothing else exciting. I felt kind of punky yesterday after the flu shot...yep...got the old super-duper one for those of us of "a certain age"...but feel fine today and no sore arm, even.

I'm joining Sharon and Mary  with new haircuts...tomorrow!  We'll all be beautiful !

Hi to Darlene who was posting while I was writing.

I hope Jeanne, Marilyn, and Alpiner are all ok.

I watched part of the debate last night.  One thing I know...neither Susan Paige nor Chris Wallace would ever survive being a classroom teacher. Neither has the voice, nor the look it takes.  :2funny:

Take care and stay safe...and come in and let us know you're ok...even if there's nothing more to say.

Just a quick health-related question for us "of a certain age".  My doctor wants me to get the Shingles shot.  It is a "new one".  My first one was many years ago.  If you've gotten it, did you have any after affects? And if so, what?  My doc said I might feel funky for a couple of days after.  I do remember that the first one did not pose any problems/reactions.
I have had several friends who actually had the "shingles", and they say it is "something you DO NOT WANT TO HAVE".
Appreciate a response.  Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.

jane

My husband and I got the first one, too, even before it was covered by insurance after seeing his uncle suffer with shingles in his eyes.  When the new one...the two dose one...came out, I was right there to get it, too.  I had no side effects and I'd be in line for any new one that ever came out.  Everyone I've known with shingles has suffered horribly from the nerve pain.  I don't like pain.

Please consider it.

jane

SharonE

Hi Gals. Doctor came and said I was supposed to get my flu shot from CVS when they came last Tues! She could have told us! Anyway, we went to HT and got our flu shot and did our grocery shopping. I'm tired now. I showed the Dr my new gyroscopic spoon/fork that I got for my tremor. She had never heard of it and took a picture, so that she could pass on the info to any other patients. They didn't have any of the high dose flu shots, so we got the regular. I never have any reaction.

I got a shingles shot about 10 or 12 yrs ago and no reaction. I think we had the 2 shot one also. I agree with Jane, prevent shingles at all cost if you have had chicken pox.

Glad you got your flu shot, Jane, and will get a hair cut tomorrow. That always makes us feel so much better. Glad your grass is growing.

It's been a long time since either Alpiner or Jeanne posted.  Hope you are okay.

Church has been cancelled for this Sunday due to someone who was there last week who has contracted Covid and was around a lot of people.

Stay safe, everyone.  Sharon

SharonE

Hi Gals. Not much going on. The cleaning lady came and changed the bed, swept and mopped and did my shower. She did all that in probably 3o mins.! For some reason, even with my new med, I didn't get to sleep till 2:00. Grr! I was tired too.

Jane, it's pretty chilly here today for uso--low 70's. Delta system is headed our way with rain tomorrow. I think you and Mary will get a lot of it though. How did your hair turn out, Jane?

Hi Darlene. Hope you aren't getting any impact from Delta. I don't think you are.

Marilyn, check in. We want to know how things are going for you.
Alpiner & Jeanne, the same. It's been quite a while since you posted. We miss you when we don't hear from you. I'm sorry that Sue isn't with us anymore. She had actually stayed here overnight 2 or 3 times as well as meeting at a restaurant, so I feel like I've lost a good friend.

Stay safe, everyone.  Sharon

Marilyn

All is well here.  I bought a KitchenAid mixer that was delivered yesterday. So I made peanut butter cookies first thing this morning. Not much else is new.

maryz

Sharon, I agree about Sue. We met her a couple of times for lunch in Chattanooga, and spent a night with her to go to a basketball game once. I hope she's being well taken care of.

It's cloudy here, preparatory to Delta's arrival. I think we're due to get 2-3" of rain over the weekend. On the up side, I had a great visit this morning with Jean and Margaret. Jean made an appointment for a visit here, and Margaret got to come at the same time. Always special to spend some time with some of my girls!

Hugs and Happy Weekend to all the Buddies!
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

jane

Sharon...goofy about your flu shot, but glad you got it even if not the one for 65+.

Mary...great to see 2 of your girls for a visit.

Marilyn...enjoy the new mixer. They're great and will be so good for all the baking you do.

In the mid 80s here and windy...so sneezing is the order of the day for me.  The weather isn't supposed to change, but my legs ache a lot today.  I did walk a bit, though, up to the cemetery up the street from me.  So some walking is better than no walk, right? ;D

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

Cottoncandy

Hi everyone....good to read everyone is doing ok..Jane hope your sneezes quit...it's back to summer here...may hit 100 Sunday..I miss Sue also...hope she's doing better..IM Still walking ..try to walk a mile each time......"I'm thinking BLT sandwich for supper...to hot to cook...Have a safe weekend.....

jane

Good Saturday morning...beautiful day.

I got out to WalMart for a bag of ice (I don't have an icemaker in my fridge) and an anniversary card I needed to get in the mail.

Just doing inside stuff now...balancing checkbook, refilling my medicine box, etc.  I need to follow Darlene's example and get out for a walk.

I finished a Netflix movie this morning...28 days...with Sandra Bullock.  The 28 days shows her time in rehab for alcohol and drug addiction.  I don't usually like this sort of thing, but I thought she was terrific in the role and the movie was good to see how out of control these people can get.

Better keep my word and get out there and walk before it gets too hot.

Darlene...enjoy that BLT.  I love anything with bacon.  I brought home a 1/2 crispychicken wrap from our night out last night, and that'll be my supper tonight.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

Marilyn

Did I miss something. Where is Sue?????

Today I m going to make some Pumpkin Spice cookies. This is a new recipe for me. U might add some Butterscotch chips or not? Raining her today and I have already done 4 loads of laundry. Keith is sitting on the couch  listening to the music channels on the TV.

We did got out for dinner last evening to the usual Mexican place. I am getting tired of that placea but Keith wnts to meet his friend there so we go. There is another Mexican place that is mch better, I would rather go there. However I ab go there one tge monthly outing with the girlfriends. This month we are go Thai foods. U like that as well. I like to be adventurous. I wish we had and Indian Restaurant here.

[/b]

SharonE

We've had dreary, rrainy days yesterday and today due to Delta. Yuck. Anyway, I got all the laundry done and folded and cooked beef and noodles tonight for dinner. We don't get fed on Sun night.

I've watched our streaming church service, etc and messed around on the computer. I'm about to go read. I'm in the middle of a Catherine Coulter mystery.

Mary, I'm glad you got some time with your girls. Wish I could spend some time with my kids or grandkids, especially since this week is John's and my birthday. However, it's not going to happen. I don't think we're even going to do anything special. We're pretty limited.

Marilyn, have fun with your mixer. They are the greatest for baking.

Well, Bunny is whining for me to go to the couch and give her some treats.  Stay safe everyone and keep walking if you can.  Sharon

maryz

Happy Monday!

Just got my flu shot. I hardly felt it. Of course, it's too early to know whether I'll have any side effects, but I never have before.  We'll see...
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

jane

Mary....hope you have no effects.  I didn't...arm not even sore.

Sharon...I love beef and noodles!  Dreary morning here, too...bit of rain and windy and cool.  Leaves are falling like crazy.

Marilyn....I'm sure going to the same place week after week gets boring for you, esp. if there's a better place.  I'll email you about Sue.

Hi to Darlene and I hope Jeanne and Alpiner are ok.

Our virus numbers are rising.  Hospital put out a warning about the rise!

I've not been out today...may do a grocery run tomorrow.

Jane

Cottoncandy

Good morning friends....finished with the big squeeze...clear..did lab yesterday..then to my Dr in 2 weeks to tell me all about it....always glad to get that over with....we are having cool mornings..hot after noon..but cool front on the way by Friday...then I guess I will complain about the cold weather...I'm so blessed and I don't thank my God enough for that...stay well and happy....time to do some house cleaning

jane

Good Morning, Darlene!  Always good to get the "Big Squeeze" over with.  Mine is the end of the month.

Beautiful day here...cool and breezy and sunny...and I did get a short walk in.  Tomorrow is to be our last "warm" day and then, like you, it's to cool down a lot.  More like fall weather, I guess.

Harvest here is well underway....corn and soybeans...and the ambulances are being kept busy with farm accidents that always seem to happen at this time.  I hate driving at this time of year...farm equipment on the road...big tractors, wagons wobbling all over the place, harvesters going from one farm to the next, etc.  They go so slow on the roads and you come upon them quickly.

I got a digital borrow of Robyn Carr's latest book...Return to Virgin River...and I'm enjoying it.  $14.99 for the ebook!  Whoooeee...no way I'd pay that price for a digital book.  So, glad I put a hold on it digitally some months ago and got it today.  I must have been among the first to request it to get it on release day.

I've done a bit of vacuuming and need to get my hair under control and then grab a sandwich and read on the back porch.

Lazy Day...again... ;D  here.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

SharonE

Hi Gals, Today is John's birthday, so we received a box of cookies for each of us plus cards from Melanie. He also has heard from Melanie and his younger sister. The other 2 kids will probably call later this evening.

Yes, Jane, we like beef & noodles and had enough for another dinner & 2 lunches. I also had Bob Evans mashed potatoes and some broccoli. It is 67 at the moment. Supposed to get up to 72. It's sunny too, which is a big change from the past 3 days.

We are going to the main bldg to eat Italian tonight. Not a celebration type dinner, but nothing much around here. I had hoped we could go to a French restaurant near here, but it is closed permanently! I love French food.  Last night we ate in the New Orleans room but the dinner was way too spicy for me. Usually, it isn't.

I'm glad it's cooling off for everyone and that everyone is staying well. My sil in the nursing home in IA is in quarantine again because there are 4 Covid cases there and 1 man died! No one knows how they got infected. When she is in quarantine, she has to stay in her room for the most part, but can walk the hall with a mask on. She can't see her husband who is in the Memory Care unit either.

Nothing else going on here. Stay safe, and Hi to everyone. Sharon

jane

Sharon...We have over 70 cases in our nursing home here.  It's from the staff who come and go, of course, and live in the community.  No visitors are allowed so staff is the only other possible cause.

SharonE

Jane, yes, the nursing homes have gotten hit hard with the Covid. We just heard this morning that Millie has tested positive but so far has no symptoms. She is in assisted care and they are allowed to go to the doctors and dentists, so that's a possible connection too. I do wish she were closer. Fortunately, her guardian is keeping a good eye on her and keeping us updated.

Lori called this morning, so I haven't gotten much done. It's a beautiful day again today.  I suggested to John last night that we drive up to Banner Elk in the mtns this Sunday to see the color. I've seen some pics on FB taken recently and also on TV and it's gorgeous. I haven't googled yet to find out how far it is, but I would estimate 3 or so hours. We won't stay overnight. Sunday is my birthday and I just wanted to do something different and get away for a bit. It's to be in the 60's so going to take a heavy jacket.

Stay safe everyone.  Sharon

jane

It got down into the high 30s last night and is breezy, though temps now in the high 50s.  It's very pretty out and I did put on some heavier sweat pants and a hoodie and walked a few blocks.  There's change coming...rain...and so I prefer to sit rather than walk. :2funny:

It feels like Saturday to me, for some dumb reason.   :uglystupid2:

Numbers here jumping.  Just on cable news that we have a high hospitalization rate here in Iowa.

The nasty Asian beetles are here again with the soybean harvest.  They're the orange lady-bug looking pests.  They invade everywhere and leave orange spots when squashed and stink.

I'm just watching an ad for Vicks and they have these vaporrub patches...and put them on the outside of the teeshirts.  Weird.  Mom used to put Vicks on our chests, not on our clothes.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

maryz

jane, I've noticed that about the shirts and Vicks, too. My family didn't use Vicks - we were a Mentholatum family.  ;D

Sharon, that sounds like a good day trip. Our leaves are just starting to turn.

I got to take a "road trip" with Margaret today - to go to the dentist for my 6-month cleaning. I love the feel of just-cleaned teeth. And a good report, too - come back in six months.  I had no ill effects from my flu shot - a bit of itching at the site the next day, but not even any soreness there.

We had some Covid cases here - residents and staff- back in August, but I don't think we've had any since then. We wear masks anytime we're out of our rooms or not eating, and have our temperature taken twice a day. We can have visitors now, but very limited and controlled. It seems to be doing okay so far.

We've got another warm day today - high near 80, but then to cool off with highs in the 60s - much more fall weather.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

jane

Mary...hurrah for a road trip out and about and that you can have visitors on a limited basis.

It's in the 40s here, and quite nice with a jacket.  I put two loads of wash in and took myself off to the bank to redeem some CDs that came due today.  It took a while to get my check...training a new lady, and something got bollixed up, so off to another teller who got my check printed.  Then across the street to deposit that, and that's all done.

I came home and decided to get that darn walk in...no excuse today...nice with a jacket.  Our trees are at their prime colors and with our breeze, the leaves are falling fast.  Frost again for tonight and rain next week with temps in 40s and 50s.  Good time to stay inside then!

Stay safe and healthy!

jane

SharonE

We're in the 60's today, but nice out. Will be cooler Sun in the mtns. But I will take a jacket and hat, just in case I need them.

Millie came unglued when they told her her Covid test was positive and had a fit when they moved her into an isolation room. They did give her another test and it came back positive too, so she calmed down. They also brought her a tracfone so she could talk to us and other family. I guess paranoia and temper go along with dementia. She was also upset because she couldn't see her husband, but at least she has no symptoms.  She will be 83 the 29th.

The cleaning girl came today, so that was good. John played bridge with his Chinese friend. I got my MC D company changed to a cheaper one.Nothing much else going on.

Mary, so glad you can have visitors and got out to the dentist. Not too exciting, but better than sitting in your room.

Jane, hope you got your walk in, got some laundry done and banking taken care of. How is your new book? I finished the Catherine Coulter and am almost done with a new Danielle Steele (Turning Point, 2019)

I'll be so glad when the election is over. Record turnout on the first day of early voting here. We did absentee and sent it in a month ago.

Our minister called this morning asking after Millie because we had put her on the prayer list. Pastor plans to come visit us for the first time here in a couple weeks when things quiet down for her.

Darlene, glad all is well with you. Still wondering where Jeanne and Alpiner are.  Jane sent a note on FB to Jeanne today. I hope she sees it, but she was complaining about all her tech tools.

Take care everyone and stay safe. Keep posting so we know you are.
