Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

Oldiesmann: Found them. They're on the CP site: https://www.christianphotographers.com/recipes/recipeindex.html

Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Domestic Goddess: Is this correct, if one would like to post/share a recipe, we do so here?  If so, was searching to see if there were separate recipe categories?

Oldiesmann: The chat can be accessed from the menu but I don't kow how often anyone is in there

Hi Gals. I haven't accomplished much today. Lots of paperwork and phoning.  I did go on the walk yesterday which is good for me but not something I look forward to.  When I was at WM Thursday, I got a broom as we hadn't brought one. Didn't think we would need it, but so many leaves on our balcony and front walk and porch, so John took care of them for me. The balcony especially was driving me nuts since I can see it most of the day.

Would you believe when we called Millie, we found out the flowers hadn't been delivered, so I got on the phone to find out why. Turns out her assisted care was close due to Covid last week, but was open today, so she finally got them.

Mary, glad you get to see your niece and great niece tomorrow. That's special.  I was just happy to talk to my sil and niece Sunday on the phone. I haven't seen them for about 3 years. They live in Tallahassee.

Will be so glad to have tomorrow and the results behind us. So fed up with both sides.

Low 60's again here today, but probably will jump up next week.

Have a good week and stay safe.  Sharon

jane

Mary...so good for you to see the California family before they head home!  I got a new suet feeder from WalMart with my second online/pickup order.  I figured for $1.64 I wasn't going to search anymore and "splurged" on a new one.  Hahaha

I drove by our district's voting center and there weren't many there. I'm guessing most of the cars were poll workers.  That was a little after 10:00 am.    So glad to just hear on news that a Fed Judge has ordered Post Office Supervisors MUST sweep their facility by 3:00 and make sure ANY ballots are sent to the polling place or wherever they go BEFORE the polls close.  HURRAH for democracy.

Sharon...It's a beautiful day here, too, at 60 degrees.  Same through the weekend, and then November returns next week.

I put my 4 chairs and two little tables from my screened back porch into the shop for the winter.  I also filled my bird feeders and blew the leaves from in front of my garage back onto the lawn.  I hate having them pile up in front of the garage door.

Nothing else new here. I'll be watching the election returns tonight...think I'll have a pizza and enjoy.  I don't expect a final decision, and I'm hoping for a change in the Senate here and one Presidential candidate to win and the other never to be seen or heard from again.  Hahahaha  😊

My niece and grandniece got delayed in VA by car trouble, so I'm not sure when they'll get here. Oh, well - that can happen in cross-country trips.

I had another thought about anti-squirrel measures. In the past, I've mixed cayenne pepper with the bird seed. Squirrels don't like it, and the birds don't care. Margaret put it in the last batch of sunflower seeds she put out here yesterday. This morning I saw a squirrel jump onto the pole. As he was sliding down (Vaseline on the pole), he was able to grab the feeder and get a pawful of seed. Then I saw him take off across the yard at a pretty fast clip. I hope he was heading off to look for water. We'll see what happens next.

We had a heavy frost this morning, but it's up to 68* now.

I, too, am glad today is finally election day. I won't be watching any news until this evening, and don't really expect results until tomorrow at the earliest. I remember that the 2000 election wasn't decided for quite a while, but I'd forgotten it was a month later before "W" was declared the winner. I surely hope it doesn't take that long.

Stay well and be sure to vote, Buddies!

Thanks for the tip on cayenne pepper. That'll put some zip into the squirrels! :coolsmiley:

maryz

And you can get cayenne in a great big container.

That post went through..so will try again...the weather has warmed up some so able to get out and walk...glad the election commercials are gone...I hope..I see where a couple of you are getting or got haircuts...Jane do you put low or high lights in your hair..or any one that wants to comment....I'm thinking It's time to just let mine be grey....I hope Shirley is feeling better...she's one tough lady...everyone stay safe...time for lunch..

Marilyn

Hello to all the Buddies. Not much new here  at my end. I cooked Freckles food for the next 9 days. I still need to put out some chicken to thaw for our supper this evening. It is a beautiful day, not to cold at 60°. Just thought I should check in.

jane

Marilyn....glad you checked in, and are ok after your fall?

Darlene...I've had both, but I haven't done either for probably two years now. Just looking forward to getting it cut again next Tuesday.  I had to cancel one appt because of this quarantine thing.

It's BEAUTIFUL here...72 degrees!  So, I dug out some sandals and walked down to town, stopped in church for a few minutes, and lit a candle for Ray.  It looked from the sign on the door as if the church was closed, but a woman came out from the office (which is closed) and said I could get in to the church.  They've had the main church doors locked and only one open that they can see easily from the office, I guess.  It was a nice quiet time.

So far the squirrels haven't gotten to the feeder I bought with the squirrel bar that closes the feeder with his weight.

My yard man was here and sucked up all the leaves with his mower and blower and the city picked up all of those from the curb, so the yard looks nice and clean.  Most of the leaves are gone from the trees now.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

Thursday is here, I think.  The days seem to melt into each other, and I don't know which one it is. But, it really doesn't matter, except for the day I have to put out my garbage and recycle box for the week.  And that's today...and yep, it's out.

I am dressed to be seen outside as I want to get a walk in while temps are so good.  And there is no wind today so hurrah for that.

How long do you think before we start seeing politicians on both sides start to work on their bid for President in 2024.  Cynical me thinks it'll be a few weeks only.

Stay safe and healthy,

Jane

Jane I know what you mean about the days melting into each other. I have not been getting enough sleep. Tuesday  night I actually got to sleep about 7 hours non stop. But the rest of my nights are restless, or not sleeping but only a couple of hurs.

Two nights this week Keith has been up walking in the hall, bumping into the walls etc. Opening my door flipping on the light, when I tell him to turn it off he won't I turn it off he turns it back on. This morning at 3 am he wanted to know where I was and opened my door, I told him I was sleeping he proceed ed to come into my room and  make a fuss. I get so angry when he wakes me up I yell at him and that makes it worse the he slams m y door bnd by that time my heart is racing and I know sleep is lout of the question.

I am so tired today,

maryz

My heart aches for you, Marilyn. Small suggestion ... Does your light switch turn on an overhead light?  You might unscrew the bulb in the light fixture, so it won't come on with the switch. You could use a bedside lamp when YOU needed light in the room. Just an idea. It wouldn't help with his night wandering, but it could at least stop the sudden light flashes.

Nothing new happening around here. My niece is expected at Margaret's tonight, and then to come by here in the morning. Hope all that works out.

Enjoy any nice fall weather you might be having! And stay well.

Thanks for the suggestion Mary

Another bright, warm day here.  I called the plumbers this morning.  My kitchen sink is backed up and bathroom one very slow to drain.  There's a big clog somewhere that Drano can't fix.  It's probably tree roots again.

I hope the election counting is over soon.  We have a lot of healing to do in this country.

Stay safe and healthy,

Jane

[Good morning Buddies..Jane seems always something.,I turned my kitchen light on this morning..and just like that.light over stove flashed and there went my electricity for my kitchen..so called my son.....with a help message and he came fixed my problem..tripped a breaker and had to chang bulbs....Marlyin hope you can figure out something for your problem..Mary enjoy your time with your neice/size]hi to Sharon Jeanne and any I left out...stay safe

SharonE

I would just like to get all the election stuff decided and off the TV and normal scheduling resumed.

Mary, that was a good suggestion for Marilyn on the lights.  Could you also put a lock on the door or would he pound on it and wake you up anyway?  Enjoy your niece if she gets there as planned.

Darlene, glad you're back to walking and decent weather.

Jane, you too.  They mowed and blowed our yard today so it looks a lot better too. Hope you got all your pipes cleared of clogs.

John played bridge at the clubhouse this AM, normal contract, and then will play online duplicate this afternoon.  Way too much bridge for me.

Wed, I got my hair cut and we ate Italian at the main bldg. Yesterday, the gal across the street that I've gotten to know came over and asked me if I would like to go with her to a Bible Study group. We watch a video in the main bldg and then some of us discuss and read and answer questions  on the lesson before the next lesson. I was glad to join her.
Today, my cleaning girl is supposed to come but hasn't shown up. I'll be really ticked if she doesn't.

We lost one of our SS members this week, so I sent a card to her daughter who was also a member. I also made out a card for my niece whose birthday is on TG. Not time to mail it, but wanted to have it ready. Brian's birthday (52) is tomorrow and Traecy's is the 18th.  October & November are big birthday months for me.  Also March.

No other news here. Lots of pain, but no Covid. Temp 97.1 this AM.

Hi to everyone. Stay safe.  Sharon

jane

The plumber was here yesterday and said not tree roots, just clogs.  So he got the cleared in both sinks, so all is good!

Kathy and I ordered Chinese last night and I brought it back to my house.  It was a nice change.

Today they were going up to an area where the Amish live and to a store there that has lots of jams, preserves, etc.  But, he called me this morning to say they had to cancel...he didn't feel good.  He said he thought a cold, but had a fever.  One of the "coffee guys" who meet every week day morning, came in Friday, said he didn't feel good, and had gone up for a covid test!  WHY WOULD HE CONTINUE ON TO COFFEE WITH THE OTHER OLD MEN?  Anyway, they called him and told him he was positive!  THAT'S why this virus is out of control!

At last, the election has been called!

Stay healthy,

Jane

I do have a lock on my befroom door, but he would just keep knocking  and talking about why is this door locked. I do lock it sometimes anyway. I am waiting for his middle son to arrive, I think he may have made reservations someplace to stay over]night.

jane

Marilyn...glad one of the sons is coming and will help you.

Mary...HURRAH...I agree!  And celebrations, not violence in the streets!

Another nice day on tap and then rain and cold descend upon us.   ::)

Stay healthy!

jane

My body still isn't adjusted to new time!  So, I'm now awake at 5:30 am...toooooo early!

I did a short walk before winds increase today.  Now I'm in for the day.

Stay safe and healthy,

Jane

maryz

No posts in a couple of days.  I hope we're all just recuperating from the election, and that nobody is sick from the virus. I hope the news about their developing a vaccine turns out to be valid.

Hang in there, Buddies!
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

jane

Mary...I think you're right...we're all exhausted from the election and from the virus.

I'm a Dr. Fauci fan and he says maybe by next spring the vaccine will be available.  I'm guessing health care personnel will get it first.

Our numbers in the state jumped by 5,000 overnight!

Stay safe and let us know you're ok, if nothing else.  All our lives are boring, I think.

Jane

Marilyn

Hello every Buddy; My son Gilbert now wants me and Keith to move to Califor nia, he even sent me the name and phone number of his realtor. I told Keith we are moving and he doesn't like that idea. But I have to think of my own health and who is going to take care of me. Sonja has experience dealing with mentally handicapped and one of jer jpbs is through the In Home Supportive Service  office. She and Gilbert would take care of both of us. He has a full time job but he sure wants me there ASAP. Probable won't be until spring. but the realtor has already sent me the links to two places and I like both of them.

jane

You'll be a busy lady this winter, Marilyn, getting ready to move you both to California!
 Don't overdo.

jane

maryz

It sounds like a good move for you, Marilyn - to have the help and support from Gilbert. Any move would be tough on Keith, but you have to do what will make it possible for you to take care of both Keith and yourself.  Lots of tough stuff ahead. Hang in thee!

Cottoncandy

Good morning Buddies...Marlyin That's a good move for you I'm sure...hope it all goes well for you...seems you don't have much "stuff" unto you pack to move...Jane are you still in quarantine? My sister in law who lives in Kansas is quarantined for second time...so far no symptoms..I think the numbers are going up again here...Hi to Sharon Mary and all reading..stay safe

jane

Darlene...nope...out of quarantine!  ;D   But my friends and neighbors Kathy and Gary are both sick.  She went for a test yesterday (though she's angry Gary told me on the phone). He's going today.  My sister in Ohio is trying to get a test per her doc's order, but they still haven't called her with a time and their 24-48 hour window is up today.

Iowa is making some national news...not for good stuff...for high numbers per population and high positivity rates!

I went out to WalMart to buy another box of disposable masks...all out.  They did have pkgs of 2 per package so I grabbed a handful of those.

Thank heavens we are not getting together tomorrow night.

Take care and stay safe!  This is going to be a long 4-5 months, but WE can do it.  We've survived cancer...we can survive this!

Jane

Cottoncandy

[Jane what is the 24/48 hr window mean?/size]

jane

CC...Her doc gave her a number to call for an appt for a covid test.  The number was an answering machine which said to leave name and number and they'd call her back within 24-48 hours with an appt.  That didn't happen as of late Thursday. She's at the point of thinking it's not worth it ...with then a 3 day Wait for results.  She was unhappy that football players can get multiple tests, but not ordinary people.

Marilyn...did middle son ever appear?

Hope Sharon, Jeanne, Alpiner, Tome are ok.

Nothing else happening....

Stay safe and healthy!
