Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Hello from my little spot in Texas..32 degrees last night but sun shining now and 60 ...hope everyone is safe from the virus..there's 25 in my county....wanting to wish everyone Merry Christmas...hopefully a better new year for us all...stay safe

maryz

It was 40 when I got up this morning, but is been down to 31 now.  And the sun has come out.  Oh, well.....

They did a section last night on the PBS NewsHour on Tennessee - which is now the Covid hot spot in the nation.  Not exactly something to be proud of. The small county where I live now has had 5 deaths in the last week - up to 61 total now. gain, not something to crow about.

Morning Pointe gave us all presents today - the one I received was a fleece blanket. Love those, and I'm pleased to have it.

Merry Christmas and Good Health to all!

MERRY, MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALLTHE BUDDIES!!

I hope you are all having a nice day. We've heard from all the kids plus one grandkid who gave us an unexpected gift--We are expecting our 4th great grandchild in June! They've just been married about a year and a half or so. She is the one working on her nurse practitioner's degree. She will be almost done with it when the baby arrives. I do hope everything goes well.

We've had a nice quiet day. Bunny got her chicken treat under the tree per usual and entertained us for 10 minutes and then looked around for more.  ;D

We had a nice turkey dinner delivered which I put out on plates and put on the table and made it look like Christmas.

Jonathan called in the middle of this post. I'm getting cauliflower ear!

I also have a mild cold which is keeping me pretty lethargic.

Mary, what a nice gift from your facility. We didn't get anything like that.

I may have missed some posts. I hope everyone is having a good day and reasonable weather. Take care, and I'll check back tomorrow to catch up.  Sharon

maryz

Woke up to find a Xmas stocking with my breakfast delivery - mostly snacky things and cards, from local clubs and businesses. Fun. And then I got to the computer and found that a friend from Chattanooga had died yesterday morning.

Then in talking to the girls, I found out about the bombing in downtown Nashville this morning. So I've been had the TV on all morning - mostly on CNN. I remember the area from when we lived in the Nashville area. Obviously meant to go off with no, or minimal, loss of life.  So nuts!

It was 15* when I got up this morning, and has "soared" to 26* this afternoon, but no snow, and some periods of sunshine.

Let's hope that 2021 is a better year!

I heard one body had been found in Nashville bombing...I hope that's not accurate.

Cold here...3 this morning, but up to teens by afternoon.  No snow.

Stay safe!

Jane

The last I heard (last night), and not from the officials, was that "human remains" had been found, but could have possibly been the perpetrator, inside the RV. I haven't turned on the TV this morning, but will post when I hear something else.

It was 13 when I woke up this morning, up to 24 now - along with the sun.

Hi Gals, feeling a little better. Took some coldeeze which I had forgotten about but John reminded me + some Flonase. Still lethargic, but did take Bunny out and have the laundry in progress. Also DW loaded. Will do another load of laundry, but that's probably it for today. We got down below freezing last night + wind, but that stopped and we're back up in the 50's now. Still cold for me.

Mary, I saw the news about the bombing. Just terrible that people don't have anything better to do. We had an active shooting at the Mall Christmas Eve, but no victims and as far as I know they haven't caught anyone. Maybe it was fireworks, but they evacuated the whole mall which was packed.  So glad you got to see the baby again on Christmas. Lucky!

Jane, you're rather quiet. I guess this first Christmas alone is awfully difficult for you. Hope you had a nice time with neighbors at least.  I hope this coming year is a better one for all of us.

Hi Darlene, Marilyn, Jeanne, Alpiner, and whoever else I've forgotten.    Stay safe.  Sharon

alpiner1

Christmas day was quiet here , just the two of us .  Our oldest son & wife dropped by on Thursday .  Our middle son was working & youngest son is visiting his older brother for the holidays .  Daughter lives in another state & her husband also worked on Christmas in a casino .
I cooked a rib roast I got on sale , had to cut it in half , was too large for the two of us . We will be eating on it for a couple more days . LOL !
I went grocery shopping this morning wearing a sweat shirt & couldn't wait to take it off !  It is about 70F now !

jane

Saturday evening and it's been a painful day, joint-wise.  It seemed to take a long time today to get things "stretched out" and the tylenol to kick in.  They're now saying snow tomorrow and maybe 4 days next week.  That would explain these creaky joints.

The dinner last night was ok.  It was a long 4 hours though.  Debi, Ray's niece in Montana, called while I was at the dinner.  Everyone in her family has had Covid, except her...which is a miracle since she has MS.  None of them, however, had been very careful, in my opinion.  The girls going to Las Vegas, the son to LA, etc.  Silly and selfish, but that's just this old lady's opinion.

As Sharon did, I also did do some laundry...need to keep my several pairs of "comfort clothes for cold weather" clean and ready to go.

Monday I need to go an renew my driver's license...just go in and wait my turn, they said, when I called.  I'm also going to phone in an order to WalMart and will pick it up Monday.  Tuesday is to be a bigger snow storm, whatever that means.

Take care, Babes!

Sunday greetings from the Couch Recliner Potato in Iowa!
The snow has begun...and I'm waiting for the football games to commence.

My big accomplishment for the day was taking out all the boxes I'd put in my recycle monstrosity tub and broke them down so I have more room before pickup on Thursday.  So...my "work" done for today, I'm catching up on Twitter and the News.

Take care Babes, and stay safe and healthy!

Jane

SharonE

Hi Jane, I'm right with you on the joints. My cold is some better, but I still don't have any energy. I have the last load of clothes in the dryer and we're having frozen pizza for dinner as I don't feel like cooking tonight. Don't have much appetite anyway.

I'm sorry you've got another snow storm coming in. Millie said they had some in Hubbard.  She is doing really well and sounds happy. I think she has finally adjusted to the assisted living and being taken care of. She was lucky to have such a mild case of Covid. The other sister also had it and a little bit worse, but didn't need hospitalization or anything. She is younger and lives by herself near a son in Phoenix.

I hope your Montana family recovers quickly. Young people think they are invincible.

Alpiner, your rib roast sounds good. We often had that on Christmas before we moved here.

Jane, I'm of the recliner potato variety too!

Take care everyone and stay safe.  Sharon

maryz

I LOVE being a Recliner Potato!!

...Hi everybuddie....we have a nice wRm day...up to 75. Jane I'm in your group...couch recliner potato..lol..done nothing today..listened tohurch on line...then ate to much...plus a slice pumpkin pie leftover...Sharon hope you feel better soon..Mary sounds like you have cold weather to....we rarely have snow...mabey every 5 years....Hi to Jeanne..Alpiner and Marlyin....Have a great coming week...new year

jane

Monday morning Greetings!

Sharon...hope your cold is better.

Mary...any further word on vaccine for your place?

Darlene...Since I no longer have to drive to work in the winter, I don't mind the snow.  When I was working, it was a constant concern.

My neighbor girl was out shoveling the walks and about to start my driveway when I had to leave this morning.  I wanted to get to the Treasurer's office at the Court House for my driver's license renewal, and so that is now over and good for 2 years.
 I'm always afraid I'll forget.

At 1:00 I'm going out again to pick up my order at WalMart.  Then I'm in for the next days...we're supposed to get more snow Tuesday and Wednesday, but I'll have no need to be anywhere outside this house.   ;D

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

maryz

jane, no word about when we'll get our vaccines, but we might (just MIGHT) get back into the dining room tomorrow.

The good news is that Margaret's friend wasn't positive after all (she had the "quick test" which showed positive, but then a "regular" one was negative), so  Margaret's out of isolation. That's really good news here.

A good friend from Chattanooga has died. She had developed a rare form of dementia - not Alzheimer's, but some similar symptoms. She was only 67. They'll just have a graveside service, but I won't be able to go in any case.

So weird about the probable suicide bomber in Nashville. I wonder if they'll ever find out a motive. Of course that's still most of our local news (I get the Nashville stations on TV).

Cool and cloudy today, but "warmer" than before (mid 50s).
Happy New Year, Buddies!  I certainly hope it's better than this past one.

Mary...it's sad about your friend and her dementia.

Storm warnings now here for tomorrow afternoon through Wed.  It's apparently in Nebraska now and literally blowing our way.

Stay safe and healthy.

Jane

SharonE

It's 2 AM! I tried and tried to get to sleep, but couldn't.My cold is maybe a little better, but you know how they linger.

The storm you're talking about is supposed to reach us on Th & Fri, but as rain/thunderstorm in our area. It was 62 today, supposed to drop into the low 50's for a couple days then jump up to 70 on Thurs with the rain. Crazy weather.

I haven't done a whole lot today, just played on the computer and read.

Jane, do you have to get a new driver's license every 2 yrs?! Ours are good for 5.

No word here yet about the start of the vaccines, but I'm sure it will be soon--I hope!

Good night all.  Stay safe.  Sharon

maryz

Sharon, sorry you're up in the middle of the night. I had to laugh at your asking about the driver's license. They're good for 10! years here, and after the first one, renewable on a "zero" birthday. I really laughed when I renewed mine on my 80th birthday, knowing it was good until my 90th. Crazy!  Same thing with my passport. Oh, well...

We got "released" to eat in the dining room this morning. I'm glad for that, but it was nice getting to eat breakfast in my pajamas.  ;D

Yes, Sharon, after a certain age in the 70s, it's for 2 yrs.  Eye test and peripheral vision test to renew.  Then they give you a paper copy to carry with present plastic card until new license comes from the state in 2-3 weeks.

I bundled up this morning and did a short walk in the cold 23 degrees and wind.  Now the snow has started and it's the teeny tiny flakes that add up.  I'm glad I don't have to be driving anyplace today or tomorrow.

Stay safe, Babes.

Tomereader1

Lucky people on the driver's license.  This year, I suppose due to my age, I was not allowed to renew on-line.  Had to go the DL office and take documents that verified you were a Citizen of the U.S., one of which was a birth certificate.  Well, wouldn't you know, the document I took was not my Original Birth Certificate, but a photocopy of the original.  So they sent me to one of the county offices, who would fix one for me, but they couldn't get it to pull up in their computer system.  Who knows where my "original" went?  So I had to get on-line with the State of Texas and pay $30 to get a new one, which won't be here until my license has already expired.  Duh! Hope it gets here soon.

Just another Covid-related mess-up.  I know that when everything first closed down, including D.L. offices, you had to get on-line and set up an appointment for a time to go and complete your renewal.  Back then, the wait time was terrible; however, since we're 9 months into this, you could get an appointment in a reasonable amount of time.  I got mine within a week's time,  to no avail. There was really no "line", people let in 1 at a time, everyone masked, all chairs spaced 6 ft. apart, and they cleaned/sanitized the cubicle  after you finished.

maryz

Tome, that sounds like you were getting the special ID license. We had to get them here in TN, too.  I just checked mine again - and I mis-spoke earlier. The regular one I had had was good for 10 years. But I got this new one when I moved here, with the new address. I got it in 2019, and it's good until 2024. I didn't have to take any tests when I got that done. Oh, well...

Just a "regular" Class C driver's license.  I didn't see anything on their website about a "Special ID License".  Here you can get an "ID" which is for identification purposes only, and not to allow you to drive a motor vehicle.
I'm still driving, so that's what I want.  I could get an "ID" almost anywhere in town without having to go through all this rigamarole.  I think they are trying to weed out anyone who was not born in the U.S. with appropriate papers. My license was  for six (6) years, when I renewed it in 2014.

jane

Tome...I, too, had to supply some of that when I got the "gold star" for airline ok to fly.  I notice it's not on my new paper but sure hope it's on my regular license that'll come in the mail.  I still have my old license to show them, anyway.

How do the states test your eyes and all of that if you can renew online?  I guess they don't.

The storm has moved on...left about 6" of new snow here.  Neighbor two doors down cleared my front walk with his little tractor and snow thrower this morning and the neighbor girl I pay to clear my walks and driveway is out with her dad and brothers working on all of that.  And next storm is coming Friday.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

Hello Buddies...a cold front...blue norther..is on the way ..from 67 to 40..  had a frightening thing to happen...thanks 2020. Was watching TV the other eve about 7:00 PM...and just like that all power went off..it was pitch black and out all over town...so I carefully felt my way to a flashlight on coffee table..then lit all my candles...was off 2 hours..scary....especially when you are alone...here's wishing everyone a Happy New Year...I pray the virus plays out with help of the vaccine....take care..be safe

SharonE

Hi Gals, When we moved, we had to get new licenses (gold star to fly) and new plates. We had to go to 2 separate offices for them, but they were well organized and sanitized.

My cleaning girl was here today and we're going to eat at the main dining room tonight. The center delivered 10 new cloth masks this afternoon for us. They look comfortable. Will try them tonight.

I finally got my Christmas Card List updated and legible and copies made so that it won't be such a mess next year. This year, so many people moved, my list was a mess.

Nothing else going on here except that Bunny is kind of off her feed. I gave her some Pepcid and half her lunch about 2:o0. I think she's okay now.

Cold here, but no snow. Lots of rain tomorrow.

Nothing else going on here.  Stay safe! Sharon

jane

Darlene...scary time for you.  Thank  heavens you had a flashlight close by.

Sharon...enjoy the dining room tonight.  Also glad your cleaning woman appeared.  I've missed mine since she had her knee replaced in early Dec.  I've done a bit of dusting and cobweb chasing, but I really hate housework.

I went out before dark and dragged my big containers for garbage and recycle (only every other week now) oout of the deep snow and down to the driveway.  We're supposed to put on the lawnstrip near the curb, but with the snow piled up, there's no way I can get those huge tubs up on those mounds. So, I put them at the end of my cleared driveway.

Temperatures to drop to single digits tonight.  Brrrr!

Nothing else new here.

Take care, stay safe and healthy,

jane

Marilyn

Good Morning buddies, My cleaning girl and I are going to start in the attic tossing things  out to the garbage and taking things to good will. I filled out and returned my application to live in the senor  manufactured home park, they will get back to me after the first of the year. The I have to apply to the lender get approved there, then start the packing etc. This is going to be a colossal undertaking, but it will get done.

maryz

Good luck, Marilyn. I know you'll make it, if hard work and perseverance have anything to do with it. You have those things in great supply!

Darlene, are you getting any of the snow predicted for Texas? Fortunately, we're just to get rain. And then into the high 60s for tomorrow. Crazy! jane and Jeanne expect snow, but not us.

Sharon, sounds like things are somewhat getting to "normal" for you.

Uneventful doctor visit yesterday. My INR finger stick was okay (to check for blood-thinner level), so I don't have to do that for another month. They're going to call in an Rx for me for a home-testing kit, so I can do that myself (with help from the staff here, if need be). I gather it's sort of like the testing kit that diabetics use.

Don't party TOO hard tonight. But let's hope we all have a much better year in 2021.

Mary....no snow..we are getting much needed rain ..cold enough to turn to sleet...I made a big pot of chicken dumplings...a good day for it...I probably want stay up to see the old year out...just pray 2021 is better for us all...Marlyin..I'm sure you will get er done..good luck ...Jane are you snowed in.?..Hi Sharon...haven't seen Jeanne post lately...Happy New Year...stay safe

Cottoncandy

well....believe it or not.. we have snow and still coming down...doesn't happen very often ..it is very pretty.....probably been 10 years since last snow...like the saying goes if you don't like the weather in Texas...just wait awhile...it will change..
