Hope you're feeling better now, Sharon. Why do these things happen only at the start of a weekend???  I'm hoping my knee is something that can be helped by a cortisone shot, but I'm afraid it's something "mechanical", and will need to be fixed.  I may get some of the Voltaren Gel, just to keep for muscular things, but I don't think that's what this is.

Hugs!

Babes!  Mary and Sharon....what are you two up to?  Good grief.  YES, it always happens on the weekend when no regular doc of yours is available.

We're sitting here waiting for what the weatherguessers call a "messy winter storm."  Doesn't that sound exciting?  I'm just glad to be here inside and prepared.  I stopped by the local little bakery yesterday before my trip to Dbq for the "big squeeze" and picked up some carmel cinammon rolls.  That's what I have to get me through this "messy winter storm."   :smitten:

End of the month time to check my bank and see if everything is good and then pay some bills.

I sure hope Mary and Sharon feel better today and Sunday.  Stay safe...esp. the dizziness, Sharon!

My neighbor Gary fell down one small flight of his basement stairs on Monday and didn't think much wrong.  Yesterday his pain was 12 on a 0-10 scale and he had Kathy take him to ER.  Turns out he broke two ribs.  No explanation why it took that long to hurt.

Me, I'm headed to my recliner and fireplace and my Kindle to read away this Saturday.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

What a surprise !  Yesterday I got a refund check in the mail from a business that supplied my oxygen needs after coming home from the hospital in 2018 !  I had pneumonia .    Wonders never cease !

Cottoncandy

Hi Buddies..thought I'd better check in ..been at my daughters since Wed...we sheltered in place and just visited and ate all kind goodies....Mary and Sharon..hope you are feeling better...Jane sounds like you have cold temperatures....It is 70 here today..Well best go fill my bird baths and feeders...all empty...Hi to all...take care

jane

Alpiner...I guess you're not on Medicare?  It and our Supplement took care of all the oxygen tanks and tubing and condensers/whatever they're called that make the oxygen.  That's sure a big help with medical costs.

Darlene...no 70s here...we're in the midst of that big midwest going east storm.  We had freezing rain this afternoon and now it'll be all snow through the night.

I'm glad I have nowhere to be until next Thursday when I go in to see my cancer surgeon for annual physical check.

Nothing else new here...just staying in and warm.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

alpiner1

Jane , yes I am on medicare & have a good medical insurance provider too .

jane

Alpiner....Great!  I don't know what the oxygen and delivery and condensers and tubing costs, but I suspect it's costly.

It's been a nice day here.  Temp got up into the 30s so roads are just wet.

I did a couple of those jobs I hate...going through the big bowl on a side table where I put mail I don't want to deal with at the moment...and a basket of statements I need to file.  Ta da!  I got both cleaned down to 5he bottom!  8)

I haven't had the tv on today, but think maybe there's a hockey game tonight.

Stay safe and healthy..and welcome February tomorrow!

Jane

I saw the orthopedist this morning - a nice young man - and had an x-ray of my knee. Nothing out of kilter showed up, and he didn't find anything on exam. I can't take any of the NSAIDs any more (blood thinner and heart surgery), so (Sharon, you'll love this), he recommended using Voltaren Gel. I'll go back in 2 weeks, and we'll see how things are. If I'm still having problems, he may order a CT scan.

And we had some snow overnight. Definitely not like jane's - just on the rooftops and grassy areas, but it's a gray day, with lots of wind, and temps hovering around freezing - so not pleasant at all.

Our facility is getting vaccine shots today, and they've been busy getting set up for that. Just excited that it's going to happen here (even if I've already had the first one and due the second on Friday).

Stay warm and well, Buddies!

SharonE

Hi Gals, Sorry I haven't posted, but my cardiologist told me at 5:30 Fri night to got to the ER and get checked out. We got there at 6:30, had a CT scan and blood test and chest xray, than sat for 4 hours till they took me up to an ER room, asked me a bunch of qquestions and left me until morning lying on a hard ER bed with no pillows and little heat. Finally taken to a room on Friday afternoon and had several more tests including an echo today. They were trying to rule out either heart problems or stroke, but neither was present so after a horrible 4 days, I am finally home and still don't know what caused it.  Now my knee is hurting, Mary!  Maybe something in the air.  I was so miserable because I hadn't taken a book, John couldn't come in with me until after my Covid test came back negative which wasn't until last night.  What a mess. I'm so sick of watching HGTV, the only station I could find that was halfway reasonable.

Mary, I'm sorry you didn't get any help for your knee.  I'm going to go get an ice pack for mine. Have you tried that?  I also put on the V gel.

Jane, you are really in the middle of the snowstorm, I think. We are in a pocket that most things go around. The mts got a bunch and then it went NE.

Well, I'm going to lie down and read or watch something decent on TV. Take care everyone.  Sharon

maryz

Sharon, sorry you had such a hard time at the hospital, but glad you got it checked out. Will they do more testing later, to see if something shows up?  Scary!  Sorry about your knee...and mine is better now.  Don't know why it started, or why it ended.  I asked one of the RAs to come in while I tried to get in and out of my recliner, to see if I could do it without pain, and I did it.  I hope your knee gets better soon, too.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Bubble, don't know who that is, but maybe Pat Booton? Or someone no longer with us.

Mary, the ice and V Gel helped my knee a lot. None of the bad pain I had yesterday.  Glad yours is better too.

Jane, can you see out for all the snow?  It's pretty if you don't have to go anywhere or are young, but I've outgrown my love of it.  And I did love it as long as I was in IN, but have no need of it now.

Darlene, 70 degrees sounds mmarvelous. We're in the 40's this week, to be in the 50's next. Sounds like you had a nice time at your daughter's. I'm jealous!

Alpiner, that's the kind of surprise I like!  I wonder why it took so long.l

Stay safe all.  Sharon

jane

They've announced they have 100 shots of the vaccine for the county.  We have to call at 2:00 and try for an appt tomorrow.  I'm sure the lines will be all tied up, but I'll try.

Sharon... Sorry for the rough time in the ER.  Those "beds" are very hard...and to be cold, too.  UGH!

The only problems in seeing is at the corner of driveways if the snow is piled up there.  I haven't been out on the county roads to see how that is.  I'm just staying home.  It's looking like Thursday, when I'm suppose to drive to Dbq (45 miles away) for surgeon appt.  If it's freezing rain on the highways, I'm canceling and will try to get another appt.  I'm not driving on icy roads.

I know my Mammmo was ok.  They didn't call me yesterday for more images or other tests.

Mary...glad the knee is better.

I should get out and walk a bit.  I did a VERY short outside walk yesterday...I watch the sidewalks carefully for ice.  I don't need to fall outside with nobody around. :tickedoff:

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

Marilyn

Hi every Buddies`; I went to the podiatrist yesterday abiut my right foot and he will be scheduling an MRI< the Xray showed an old injury that had started to heal. He told me had I come in when I first injured my foot 6 months ago he would have put me in a cast. So I don't know what he is going to do now but better to get it done  before I have more packing to do. Gilbert has not found us a place yet. Darn my first and second choices have already sold.[/color]

alpiner1

My husband & I went to the dermatologist this afternoon for freezing spots & I had a biopsy of a spot on my arm . I had a huge spot removed on the same arm a while back , It was from the sun while driving .   My husband has what they call barnacles  ( we get those as we age ."  He had a spot on his nose froze & he says he will look as though he had been in a fight ./size]

SharonE

Jane, I hope you get an appt for the vaccine. I feel so lucky to have gotten my first and have the 2nd scheduled. I'm glad that you are being very careful walking outside on snowy walks. Have you thought about using a cane for extra stability? Or have you gotten rid of Ray's?

I'm feeling a good deal better today, although I had to get up early to be ready for the cleaning lady at 9:00. She is here now. The podiatrist is also supposed to come today to cut our toenails, etc. I wish she could do something for the arthritis in my 2 big toes though. However, I suppose that would require surgery and I don't want that.

Marilyn, keep us apprised of what your podiatrist says and the treatment. You're wise to get it done before the move. I'm sorry you haven't found a place yet in CA. Something will open up though. Keep the faith.

Alpiner, we all have our spots at this age. Since you live out west, you probably have more than those of us in the MW or East. Since we moved South, we have annual appts.  John is super fair, even more than I, and spent most of his youth outside, so he has had a lot taken off, including 2 basal cells. You are wise to stay on top of it.

Monica, my grand daughter-in-law, had a birthday yesterday, so we called and talked to her and Thomas. She is 5 months along with great grand #4 and so far is doing well.

Mary, did they get everyone vaccinated at your place yesterday? Hope your knee is still behaving. Mine is not completely back to normal, but close.

No other news here.  Stay safe, everyone.  Sharon

maryz

Glad to hear everybody checking in.

Marilyn, sorry you've missed out on your first choices - but something will come up. Glad you've gotten some things sold, and are getting your foot taken care of.

alpiner, like Sharon said, we all have those places and barnacles that need to be zapped from time to time. Even though I've lived in the south all my life, I've never been an "outdoorsy" person, so not too many for me.

jane, that snow storm was a really tough one, and I gather there's another one on the way. It's just going to be cold here - really cold for us - down in the 20s, with single-digit wind chills.

Darlene, enjoy your 70s. I'll bet you get a norther or two out of these waves. I was only in the Hill Country once or twice, but I had a distant cousin who lived in Banderas for a number of years.

Sharon, the knee is better, and I can use my recliner now (the best part). I'll keep using the Voltaren, though.  My usually weather-resistant arthritis has been bothering me in this damp, windy cold we've been having. Our facility got the first shots Monday, and I'm due for my second one from the Health Department on Friday. I gather reactions around the building varied from none to some folks feeling pretty bad. But at least, I think everybody got the shot.

Jean is going to come from Nashville for a visit on Saturday.  It'll be good to see her. She has spent some time with Kate in Kentucky again. All the rest of the family is doing well. I was sent some great pictures of Alison's family playing in the snow (Annapolis, MD). It's fun for the youngsters - if not for us "oldsters".

Stay warm, Buddies!

We both are waiting to get the vaccine until after I have lab work done tomorrow .   It is surprising what shows up in lab work .

Marilyn

I have not gotten my first shot yet. Those 80 and over are supposed to start getting them next Monday the 8th. At least that is when we are to start calling  for an appointment  I was told by Coos Health and Wellness that there may be a delay in the vaccine  arriving here and the amount may not be enough for everyone. It seems like this area of Southern Oregon is last to get much of anything from the government. I asked them that since I am Keith's full time caregiver if he could get his shot too. Nope not until after the 21st, with the 70+ group.

jane

Marilyn...good you saw the podiatrist about your foot.  Here too, they're not getting the vaccine.  100 shots doesn't go very far in a county of 17,000.

Sharon...I have a cane, but it's not much good on ice.  I just stay inside.   :2funny:

Mary...glad the knee is better and you're getting company on Saturday.

Darlene...70s for temps ....wow...next week to be single digits for highs and below zero...real temp with wind chills in the -30 range.  Again, I'll be inside.

We have a big storm with ice and snow and 40 mph winds coming in tomorrow, so I called and rearranged my cancer surgeon's appt to go over my mammo.  I'm not driving 90 miles round trip in that!  Radiology hasn't called so I know the mammo was ok.I'll see the doc at the end of the month.  He did my mastectomy 32 years ago and we've been meeting yearly ever since.  We've grown old together.   :2funny:

They had another announcement for covid...call at 2:00 and I tried to call 32 times...all busy and at 2:35 the appts were all full.  So, I'll be patient.  Got another notice that Walgreen's and CVS would get vaccine....but those are at least 45 miles from me.  I'm sure the locals in those counties will snatch up those doses.  We're hoping our local pharmacies and WalMart get some vaccine here if the hospital doesn't.  Here the age is 65+.  Our governor has probably screwed this up too.  She's good at that.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

jane

Let it snow, let it snow....and it is.  The schools are closed, the Urgent Care just sent out email that they're closed, and I'm closed in my nice warm house with my fireplace going.

Stay safe and healthy, Buddies!

Cottoncandy

Good morning to all...Jane sounds like a good day to stay in pjs and read.....it's supposed to be near 80 here today...so thinking of working in the yard...just finished my walk...5 others also walking.....Marlyin here's hoping you find a house soon....sometimes it's hard to wait...Sharon sorry you had to go to ER.... but Mary hope your vaccine goes well...my grandson got the vaccine...2 was later got covid...Hi to everyone looking in....stay warm and safe

alpiner1

I was suppose to have lab work done today for my oncologist  but the lab I usually go to is closed !  We went to another lab & I think the woman at check in was confused . She said they didn't do that there  & gave me a list of labs to contact .  The same lab was on the list !!  I was told I didn't need an appt. !!!   We went home & had breakfast & I tried again later . I got so upset my husband took over .  He left our number & I'm waiting for a call now .  I have an appt. with my dr. next week & need to get this taken care of .  In the past she didn't get the lab results & she had it taken care of in her office . I may have to leave it to that this time also .

jane

Alpiner...I hope you get a call and get it straightened out.  Those mix-Ups are So Annoying!

Snow, wind, and dropping temps continue.

Jane

alpiner1

We went back this afternoon even though it is a long drive .  I discovered they stopped the lab work a year ago at that location . But referred me to another location nearby .  I stood in the hall in line for about 1/2 hour to enter the office , after checking in I waited 20 more minutes before actually having the lab work done .  We never did get that call !

jane

Alpiner...tough to have to stand in line that long!  Here, I have to go to the local hospital, affiliated with my doc's clinic, for blood work or to the big clinic where my derm and surgeon are in Dbq.  They have their own lab, radiology, etc.  I'm not familiar with having to go to outside labs for bloodwork.

It's a crisp 5 degrees here this morning, with 4 more inches of snow from the blizzard yesterday.  Good part is the snow insulates the water pipes so they don't freeze.

I had a haircut today at 12:15 and Krystal just called to offer me an earlier appt.  I told her I wasn't sure I could get out my driveway, so she moved me to a MOnday appt.

The wind is picking up, so I'm glad I'm in!

Jane

maryz

sorry about the waiting, alpiner. Around here, they have folks wait in their cars, and then call or text for them to come in. Much more comfortable.

jane, I saw on the news about a huge snow-related pileup on the interstate near Des Moines. Looks awful. We've at least got sunshine and no snow/rain today. It did rain a lot last night night.

I called the Health Department about my #2 vaccine. Turned out the marked my card wrong, and I'm not due until NEXT Friday. Oh, well - at least I'm not sitting around here wondering what happened.

Hugs to all the Buddies!

I got a call from the dermatoloist this morning about the spot that was biopsied , it is pre-cancerous , so now we are waiting for the insurance's okay to freeze it off .  I grew up in gloomy ,rainy Oregon & I'm not an out door person , the spots are from the sun coming in the car window while I'm driving .  I have fair skin & freckles so usually sun burn .  I'm not red headed but 2 of our sons had read hair & a granddaughter too .

SharonE

Hi Gals. What a wide diversity in temps and weather among us. We have been down in the 20's at night some nights and 40's or low 50's most of this week. Cloudy, rainy or misty most of the time.

Alpiner, like Mary, we sit in the car and wait to be called. Going through that kind of stuff is so frustrating. Hope you can get your shot now. We had to have a blood draw this week and the guy came to our villa! All part of the Doctor's Making House Calls group. Really nice during this pandemic. Alpiner, just saw your new post. Sorry it's precancerous, but at least they caught it before it was serious.

Jane, you're wise to put everything off till things clear up. Our beauty shop just re-opened today, so will call for an appt. tomorrow for sometime soon. I'm getting pretty shaggy.

Mary, sorry you have to wait another week for shot #2, but that's not too long. Great that Kate is coming down.  I would give anything to see some of our kids or grands or great grands. But hopefully this summer.

I went to Spanish class today and was able to keep up in spite of missing last week. I still remember a lot of it from college, but my pronunciation is lousy--too influenced by my French.

My recipe binders came yesterday and I got one put together last night. I'm going to go do another one in a few minutes. It takes about an hour to do with the page covers, etc. But they look really nice.

Stay safe everyone.  Sharon

jane

On TV, they warned about being careful with SuperSpreader get togethers for the SuperBowl.

And, so our Governor has repealed the mask mandate and the number of people who can gather as of Sunday morning. So, she's saying big gatherings in bars and restaurants for the  SuperBowl are just wonderful!

As anyone in the Midwest has heard, we've got 10 days coming up of highs in the 0-5 range and lows as low as -15.  The windchill will be -30 .

Jane
