Where is everyone?

BTW, if you buy things online, sign up for EBates. YOu can get cash back on purchases.  So far I have earned $13.50, not a lot but better than nothing.

Nothing happening here.
Sharon

maryz

I'm here, Sharon - nothing going on here, either.  We're getting ready to have some excitement, though.  Getting a new roof on this place is due to start on Monday.  The shingles were delivered today (I had to move my car - guess that's where they were going to put them).  It should be messy and noisy for a while.

Great lunch with friends, and in an hour, we're going out for supper.  We're both going to be stuffed.

Lots of rain and thunder and lightning here.  It's supposed to last through tomorrow.

jane

SharonE

Lucky Jane! No cooking for her today.

Mary, you better find somewhere to go when they start doing the roofing!  Headache city!

Sharon

Tim and I had a nice lunch at Amsterdam Café before we went to Kroger.  I didn't need much today, so when we came home, Tim did a few "honey do" chores for me.  Put new light bulbs over my bathroom sink, fixed my meds for next week, and checked out the place where my maid service noticed the roof had been leaking.  We're hoping it doesn't rain again before the roofer can get here!

I'm planning a quiet evening with a new mystery by Tami Hoag to read before bedtime, but after the news shows at 6:00 and 7:00.  TCM has had disappointing movies for almost a month.  Last night I watched the first half of the Carolina pro team--don't remember the name, but Cam Newton is the quarterback.  They had the game well in hand at the end of the half, so I gave it up then.

I hope you've all had a nice day--and will have a nice weekend.
Sue

It's finally cooling off, with lower humidity.  It almost feels like fall.

And speaking of "fall", Jean had a monster one yesterday.  No concussion, but a huge laceration across her forehead.  Fortunately, after the ambulance ride, a plastic surgeon stitched her up in the ER. The black eyes are a lovely addition.  Poor baby!

Sharon, have you ever heard anything about John's eye appointment?

Sue, glad that Tim has seen the newly discovered leak.  I'm sure he'll take care of it for you.

I hope everybody has a good weekend, and that all your teams win their ballgames.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

jane

Sue...you're so fortunate, as you know, to have Tim there to know what needs to be done and to do it!

Mary....OUCH for your Jean.  It sounds as if she took a nasty tumble.

We had a nice supper....fish fry ...very rural Iowa for a Friday night outing...and 25 miles or so away.  We got there early enough it was still light and still light when we drove home. There are a lot of deer along those country roads and rutting season is almost upon us.  But the rains had really about stopped, so it was a safe trip.

More rain tomorrow, so I plan to play with this new laptop, read, and maybe do some knitting as I watch college football.  Not a bad way for me to spend a wet and gloomy Saturday.

jane

jane

Wet, dreary day here...perfect for being inside and watching football and reading and working on this laptop.  So far, I've gotten the external DVD installed,Office 365 and connected laptop to wireless printer.  I still have a new Quicken to install.  But, I take breaks in between...easier on my nerves!!

Hope you're all having a good Saturday.

jane

SharonE

Hi Gals.  This is the third time I have tried to post and my cursor keeps jumping around and then things disappear and are deleted. It's weird.  I just re booted and we'll see if it works better now.

Sue, it sounds like Tim is on top of everything for you. You're lucky to have him nearby.  The Carolina team is the Panthers and we ended up losing 28-23,  Boo!

Mary, I'm so sorry to hear about Jean's fall but glad she didn't get a concussion.  John won't hear anything about his eyes until his Dec 4 appt, or at least I don't expect to unless it's something urgent.

Today is John's birthday and also that of our next-door neighbor, so we are all going out for dinner at Bravo's, an italian restaurant we like.  Two of the kids have called so far.

Melanie & Sangmin ended up buying a house in Citrus Hills, FL. They will have to do some reno on it but not a lot. It looks really pretty in the pictures. 2020 sq ft.  They plan to use it just for the winters.  If and when they sell their big house, they will probably buy a condo in Bloomington, IN for the rest of the year. They have a son in Indpls and their daughter is in Minneapolis, so they don't want to be too far away. The FL place is an "Easy Care Villa"  with all maintenance outside and landscaping done for them, an important thing for a 2nd house.

John is going to take a bridge cruise in Oct next year to celebrate his 80th.  It's not something that I am interested in at all since I get seasick and don't play duplicate.  He also wants to take a family trip to New Zealand in April 2019 which is the earliest Tauck has reservation room for. So far, all 3 kids want to go. Maybe, just maybe I'll get strong enough to go as well. That would make it really special to have all 7 of us go.  So far, I'm just dreaming though.  Lots of rehab before then.

My computer seems to be doing okay now.  Cross your fingers.   Sharon

Marilyn

We just got back from Portland, my husband had to see a neuro-ophthalmologist, we were informed that the vision part of his brain has atrophied. although he can see well straight ahead, he has no peripheral vision and no depth perception. The atrophy is caused from early on-set Alzheimer's dementia. He father had the same thing so it is a possibility that It is inherited. His long-term memory is pretty much intact however his short-term memory is terrible, He forgets things he has been told 10 minutes ago.  His son's want me to apply for guardianship also a Durable Power of Attorney I think both do just about the same things. I need to check up on the procedure for the state of Oregon

He has now been told by 5 doctors that there is no way he will ever be able to drive a car again. The Dr. up north has referred him to a neurologist here. Who may recommend that he also take a drug called Namenda on top of the Aricept he is already taking. Keith doesn't realize how bad he really is, he is in denial as far as his memory goes.

There it is, I have a rough road ahead of me and can use all the prayers I can get. They did give me a handout on what kinds of things I need to change in the house to protect him from hurting himself when the time comes that he gets worse. Also for me to make sure I have help so I  don't get stressed out.

maryz

Marilyn,, you do truly have a rough road ahead.  My heart goes out to you.  You definitely need to find some way to get some respite for yourself from time to time - even if it's getting someone to stay with him (when it becomes necessary) so you can do your Furry Friends visits.  Very good advice from his sons - I hope they're going to help you out with what's needed. Lots of hugs going your way.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SCFSue

Mary, I'm sorry to hear about Jean's fall, the stitches, and I'm sure a painful headache!  I'm glad there was no concussion.

Jane,  I am indeed thankful that Tim lives nearby.  He has been the difference between me being able to stay in my home or moving into a facility.  I am able to fix meals, do the laundry, and other simple chores, as well as yard work, but it helps to have a cleaning service every other week and Tim stopping by at least twice a week to check on me.  I do wish I could go back to driving, though.  We've kept my car here and I'm hoping to be able to drive it when I get this brace off my right leg.

Sharon, I didn't stick with the Panthers after the first half.  I am a bit disappointed in Cam as he has lost that wonderful "helpful attitude" that he had here.  He tutored 3 little boys at a local Elementary School each year he played at AU.  Now he seems to believe all the hype and is not as involved in that kind of thing as far as I know.  There have also been reports of not so nice comments about women recently.  I don't know if that is true or just rumor.

Our AU Tigers lost to LSU this afternoon.  We played really well in the first half, but sort of fell apart toward the end of the second.  I'd hoped we'd go undefeated until we meet Alabama in the last game.
We lost to Clemson in the first game by only one TD--so I was proud of them then.

Marilyn, you have my sympathy for the situation with Keith.  I am having memory issues with short term memory and know it's hard on Tim -- and Bill and Jon are very concerned although they don't have to deal with it.  I take a generic for Aricept and think it's helping.  My long term memory is still very good.  We write all appointments, bridge games, and other activities on my calendar and I check it daily.  It helps.  Have his sons helped you get him to write a will?  I think they understand that you are the one who needs help with him.

Have a nice weekend, every Buddy.
Sue

:)Sue----I t was truly an IMAZING win last night for our LSU tigers!!!!!!! To come from behind from 20points for Auburn and zero for LSU and WIN 27-23 in the last minute of the game was unbelievable to say the least.  Our coach, Orgeron, is new
for us  ---Miles leaving last year----but he has done a great job(Yes, he is a Louisiana

Windy Sunday greetings and half way through Oct already!

Marilyn...Sure hope Cody and the other two guys help you get what you need to care for K.  I hope you can get good legal advise quickly and get the "boys" to support you in that guardianship and POA now.  They surely know well how stubborn their dad is.

Nothing much except some laundry and football planned for today.

Jane

Marilyn

Jane, I believe you mean Corey

SharonE

Marilyn, my prayers go out to you in this difficult situation. I'm so glad Cory is supporting the idea of your getting guardianship and POA. It definitely seems needed.  What scares me about what you said was that he was losing his peripheral vision due to the alzheimers. John is losing his peripheral vision as well. I don't think he has alzheimers yet, but he does get forgetful at times and his sister has alzheimers.  Like I said, scary.  But at least we have all our paperwork done.

We're back from SS & church and I have the first load of laundry in. Not much else planned for the day.

Joy, it's fun to watch such a close game, but I doubt Sue enjoyed it.  Congrats to LSU.

Sue, Cam has a foundation set up to help children and does a lot for them, particularly at Christmas, however not a lot is advertised.  I hadn't heard about other women in his life. I have been disappointed that he hasn't married the mother of his 2 children though.

It was cool yesterday and this morning but the sun is out and it's warming up now.  Sharon

jane

Yes, I did, Marilyn.  Thought I'd typed "Cory" but see it's with an e.  Sorry to get his name wrong.

Marilyn

All three of Kieth's sons, Dr. Craig Riley, Kyle and Corey want me to get guardianship over all his affairs, financial and medical, they want me to get everything put into my name.

Sherry the Dr said that the vision part of his brain shows atrophy and no cyst is there, the atrophied part of the brain controls the Peripheral and depth vision. He has some but not much of both. He sees things in the middle of the road that are actually on the side or the curb. His official diagnosis was Dementia/Alzheimers. The Neurologist here will confirm that DX or tell us something different. Just have to wait now and see.  I can't wait too long though because he could go full blown Alzheimers in a very short time or not.

Cottoncandy

Prayers for you Marlyin...I had POA on my husband..on. Medical...finances....everything....so glad I did....although this mind was sharp up to day he died...no memory problems or other...hope everyone's having a great Sunday...supposed to be in the 40s tonight.....I plan to go to bed early and read....the book I'm reading is  The Paradigm...very interesting....Darlene

Hi Buddies.  It's hot and muggy here today.  Olyne picked me up for SS and church.  I came home, fixed and ate lunch and took a "reading rest" on my bed afterwards.  I've just put my trash containers and the large bin out on the curb, so I've finished "ship's work" for the day.

I have an appointment for my annual exam with my Opthalmologist (sp?) at 8:40 tomorrow morning.  A village friend will pick me up between 8:15 and 8:30, so I'll have to get up and dressed before 8:00.  A friend from church died last week and the funeral is tomorrow at 2:00.  Olyne will pick me up at 1:30.  We are not going to stay for the reception in Baird Hall after the funeral.  We'll be able to sign the register in the sanctuary when we go in for the funeral.

Joy, I was disappointed with our Tiger's loss, but not surprised when our second half play broke down.  It was pretty hot and all your Tiger fans were pretty loud cheering on your Tigers.  I don't think AU has won very many games down at your stadium!  And I'm familiar with the term "coon ass".  My daughter-in-law Stacie is one!

Jane, which of the NFL teams are your favorites?  I don't watch them on Sundays, but occasionally will check out the Thursday night games.

Sharon, I didn't even know that Cam has 2 children--but I'm not surprised.  His personality seems to have changed since his student days--it's too bad because he was such a good guy here--tutored young black first and second grade boys every Monday during football season and did other nice things for people in our community.  I think all that money he gets has somehow affected his sense of values.  I did hear that prior to coming to AU he had some moral problems at his prior school--which I think was Florida.  I can't confirm that, though.

Marilyn, I have been taking the generic for Aricept for a year.  It's Donepezil and seems to help.  I have great long term memory, but my short term memory is not so great.  I have to write everything down on my calendar and check it daily so that I don't miss appointments, bridge games, grocery shopping, etc.  This is a result of 6 weeks last summer of testing and games with a friend who is a clinical psychologist.  I still play pretty well at the bridge table and read lots of novels--something almost daily.  Has Keith's doctor mentioned Aricept?  Medicare and my Tri-Care for Life supplement pay for it for me.

I just turned on my TV and it's only 5:30--and I'm appalled.  Grantchester is on and it's only 5:30!  It came on at 7:00 last year.

Hi Darlene, you posted when I was ready to check out.  Enjoy your book this evening!

Have a nice evening, Buddies.

Monday morning greetings...and no rain, but likeDarlene, much cooler.  There could have been pockets of frost as temps were in the 30s.

Massage on the agenda for today and my achy muscles and joints need it.

Good morning, Jane and Darlene and whoever else is looking in now.  I've just returned from my annual visit with my ophthalmologist and everything is OK.  Just need to go back in a year for another exam.  So that's a relief.

While I was in his office, the temperature has dropped and I have added a sweat shirt to keep me warm today.  My eyes still have that dilated affect, so might wait a while to read this morning.  I really should go to a funeral at my church at 2:00, but think I will stay home instead.  Bonney is out of town with her sister for the wedding of Bonney's son Bill in Tennessee.  She would have taken me if she were home.  Harvey, the deceased, was a retired professor at AU and his wife died about 8 years ago.  He's been ill for a while.

It's cloudy and dark outside now, was clear when I arrived at the doctor's office.  I hope if it does rain, it won't be hard and no more leaking from around the chimney.

Have a nice day, Buddies.
Sue

maryz

Sue, glad you got a good report from the eye appointment.  I see my doc every 6 months - and I think I'm due around Thanksgiving.  I'm thinking I'll be needing some new glasses then.  At least I have insurance for that.

Glad we're all getting some cooler temperatures.  Ours changed dramatically last night when a cold front came through.  We got an inch of rain here overnight, and today is clear and crisp - highs to be only in the 60s!  I got to wear a jacket this morning.  I had placed a pickup order at Walmart for this morning, so got that on the way home from the Y/coffee.  That's the greatest thing since sliced bread!  Y'all know how I hate shopping, so being able to order what I want online and then just pick it up outside the store is fabulous for me!

I Skyped with Jean last night.  She looks (and feels) so much better.  Her eyes are still black, and the color is moving down her face, but the swelling is down considerably.  I may have said - the cut across her forehead was about 4" long, in a V-shape from the the outside of one eyebrow to the outside of the other - really awful looking - lots of stitches.  Since a plastic surgeon did the repair, it should heal fairly well, though.

Happy Monday to all the Buddies!

I finally got insurance approval for the lumpectomy . Now waiting for a call from the oncologist for appt .   I have been in limbo since August regarding this lumpectomy , first to see if I needed it . I have had a bronchial condition & still coughing so now will need to wait for it to clear up .

SharonE

Alpiner, I'm appalled at how long it has taken to get you to the lumpectomy stage.  I was diagnosed on Jan. 3 and had my surgery on Jan 15!!  Checking out insurance coverage has gotten to be a big obstacle in getting things scheduled.  I had to have mine checked for everyone of my surgeries and procedures this summer, even tho nothing had changed!!

Mary, tell Jean to get some Arnica cream or gel and use it at least twice a day. It will fade the bruises much faster than normal.  She can get it OTC at most any drugstore.  I used it when they messed up my arm with multiple IV's 2 weeks before my reunion.  By the time of the reunion they weren't even visible unless you knew they were there.  Jean really must have taken quite a fall to cause all that damage.  It's cool here too.

Sue, good on the eye appt.  I had one in August. Some decrease in vision but not enough for new glasses. She also said I have a cataract that will probably need to come out in a year or two.  Whoopee! I really don't know if Cam has changed. The mother of his 2 children lives in Atlanta. Don't know why he hasn't married her or moved her here.  Lots of negative comments about his not marrying her.  He does still do quite a bit with kids and has a Foundation established. Not sure of what all it does, but know he helps out with educational supplies and Christmas gifts.  He is a showboater though.  He makes me laugh.

Jane, it sounds like your new computer is all setup now. Good for you.  I still haven't gotten my Echo connected. I'm going to have to have help with that.

Not much planned today, just trying to clean up and organize my den some more.  Sharon

jane

Darlene....years and years ago I had hi-lites, then called "frosting" on my hair.  I haven't had anything for years, but the grey was getting to me, too, so I've been getting foil "low lites" she calls it....a kind of carmel brown.  I've been three times, now, about 4-6 weeks apart.  I still have some grey, but not like I had before.  I'm ok with it as it is now.  She said some people come once a month, others every 6 weeks...depends on how fast your hair grows, I guess.

Alpiner...hope things go more quickly now for you and you can get this behind you.

Mary...how did Jean fall?  It sounds as if she really hurt herself.

Just in the low 60s now, and I've had my massage which felt wonderful.  Hunching over this laptop had my shoulder and back muscles very tense.

I need to get out after my lunch and walk.  The rain had put a stop to that.

jane

alpiner1

I got a call from the breast doctor's office this morning about setting up surgery . I told the person calling I have bronchitis . We went ahead with scheduling a pre-op visit with the doctor for November 1 , surgery will be November 9 , need to be at the hospital at 7:00 a.m. , with surgery at 1:00 p.m.  No breakfast , only clear liquids but I can have black coffee . I should be over this bug by then .

maryz

Sharon, thanks for reminding me about Arnica.  I told her about rubbing Vitamin E into the laceration area to lessen the scar visibility.

jane, she tripped and fell, hitting her face on the edge of the large city-furnished recycle bin (which is almost as big as she is).  Fortunately, she didn't hit anything really hard, so didn't have a concussion.

alpiner, I'm glad you've finally gotten the surgery scheduled.  It's always the wait/wait/wait thing that drives you crazy.  Hugs!
