Good morning, Buddies.  I've been up early as my cleaning ladies are scheduled for today, but I had a phone call from the manager late yesterday afternoon.  They didn't work yesterday, so my gals will clean their Monday a.m. homes before coming here.  I have an appointment with my dentist for my 6 month check up at noon.  A volunteer from Village Friends will pick me up and take me there, plus wait until I'm finished.  I'm also expecting Tim sometime before Jim gets here and hope he'll box up my Christmas tree (he did get here before my ride to the dentist and he packed up my Christmas tree and put it in the utility room!).

I had a good checkup, Jim (the driver) wanted to stop at the library and I was happy about that and was able to check out some books.  Then he had to pick up some things at Kroger which was also good for me because I needed to pick up some things for the bags I'd planned to take to bridge on Thursday.  However, I'll have to put them in the fridge until Jan. 18, as Peggy called (she is to be the hostess) and is not feeling well, plus she said Olyne has the flu.  I have small candy bars and other snacks for the goody bags.  I would have liked to play bridge, though.  We'd canceled this bridge two weeks ago, too.

I've been watching a movie and also have started reading one of the library books I picked up today.  I'm off to get under the blankets (It's going down to below freezing tonight--and might already be there!).

Good night, Buddies.
Sue

P.S.  The Molly Maids came early, too!

I went to the radiologist appt. this afternoon . I chose not to have radiation  the dr. said I probably would not die of breast cancer .  I will continue to have the mammograms & they will keep check on it .
How ever in the breast cancer MRI I had they found a spot on my liver . The dr. said he doubts it is cancer but he ordered a CT scan to find what it is .  I rarely drink .
My husband knew I was worried & he said " you are not alone ,we are in this together ."

jane

Sue...stay warm.  Glad the Village driver needed to go the same places you did.

Alpiner...glad your doc seems confident liver spot is not cancer.  I had a cyst on my liver...apparently common as nobody was concerned about it.

The rains have stopped, but cold and windy here.  I have an 11:00 hair cut scheduled.

Bad night last night with the joints....needed tramadol + tylenol to finally get some sleep.

Jane

maryz

alpiner, I hope all shows up negative in the scan.  When is it scheduled?

jane, sorry your joints are keeping you up.  I know you'd be hoping for warmer temps down there.

Sue, your Auburn "Friends" surely are helpful for you.  It's a great service for the community.  Too bad about missing bridge.  Since I play on Mondays, I've missed the past two Mondays, too.

It got down to "only" 22 this morning - and is up to 28 now.  I think it's even predicted to get above freezing today -- before the next front comes through.  We'll be back in single digits again.  I took the opportunity this morning to get out to get a much-needed haircut.  The nearest Great Clips is only about 5 minutes from here, so I didn't have to be outside very long.

Really warm wishes to Sharon, Marilyn, Darlene, Jeanne, Joy, Ginny Ann, and anybody else checking in.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Jane, you and I had similar problems last night.  My knees and legs kept me awake. I also took Tramadol and Tylenol, but it wasn't totally successful.  I got up for an hour or so and went back to bed a little after 2:00 and finally got some sleep. Slept late this morning.  I started sneezing yesterday and sniffling a little bit, so don't know if I'm getting a cold or not.  I really feel lousy and lethargic.

Mary, I know you're glad to get your hair cut. I sure was last week.  Hope your bridge works out this week.

Sue, your Friend volunteer really took you everywhere. That's a wonderful service even though you pay for it.  Too bad about bridge.

Alpiner, I  also had a spot on my liver, but they did a scan and said it was nothing to be concerned about. I'm glad you don't have to have radiation or chemo.  Radiation isn't bad, but the chemo can be.

Nothing planned here for today.  Stay warm everyone.  Sharon

alpiner1

On the CT scan , I'm waiting for them to call .

SCFSue

It's almost noon here.  I've just putzed around this morning and haven't accomplished much except making my grocery list for Friday.  Last night before I went to bed I put all the goodies for my bridge buddies into the fridge as we aren't playing again until Jan. 18--2 of us have flu and we'll wait until then.  I've taken down all the decorations and will put the boxes into the attic today--at least I hope to get that done.  It's so cold out, I've postponed walking, but will bundle up shortly and at least do 20 minutes in my neighborhood.

Alpiner, I hope the CT scan confirms your doctor's diagnosis.  Keep us posted.

Jane, the weather channel says it about 38* here now, but I can bundle up enough for a short walk.  I'm planning on Scrambled eggs with cheese for lunch and I'll wait until after I walk to fix that.  So far no ice on our streets here.

BTW, the Village Friends have been a life saver for me and Tim.  We still have our Friday lunch date and Kroger shopping, but it gives him time to take care of his business during the rest of the week.  I have paid an annual fee and when I need to do something other than a medical appointment (Tim insists on going with me to those), I can get a Village Friend to take me.

Mary, right now we all the way up to 38* and not expected to get much higher.  But I have lots of warm weather clothing--I didn't throw it out when we moved back to Alabama and am very happy I still have a big puffy jacket, hats, gloves, mittens, etc.  I'm relieved that it isn't snowing or sleeting here.

Sharon, I'm sorry you had a bad night.  Nothing worse than missing sleep--and I hope you have a better one this evening.  I'm hoping for a nice warm day inside after my walk.  I'm going to go as soon as I finish posting and then am going to make scrambled eggs with cheese and bacon for lunch.

Have a good day and stay warm, Buddies.

My coastal South Carolina grands tell me it's snowing hard at their houses.  And not the usual "SC snow".   ;D

This morning I took a friend's Staffordshire terrier (Pit Bull type) On a Therapy dog visit to one of the residential/Rehab facilities. He must weigh 85 lbs. the only problem was the way he pulled the leash. He has had 6 months off of his therapy dog visits and we are re-evaluating him with me on the other end of the leash. I have to go to the pet store and buy one of those shorter leashes so he can't pull. My back is so sore from his pulling. We will do another evaluation a week from Friday at a different facility. My friend can't do the visits anymore because she has a-fib so bad and her heart goes out of sync so often. I'm pretty su8re4 I already told you why my friend (Ingrid) can't do the visits anymore.

SharonE

Mary, I saw a picture of Charleston on FB--unbelievable the amount of snow they have. I hope your family stays in and safe.

Sue, I've felt lethargic all day. I did do my PT, but that's about all.

I do plan to make salmon for dinner though.  Sharon

maryz

I just heard Charleston was getting 3-5" of snow.  Paul's house is up on stilts.  Brrrr
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SCFSue

We have no snow, but plenty of icy temps!  I've just come in from a walk and the temperature was in the 30's.  Thank goodness I have warm clothing--some left over from our years in Brunswick, Maine.  I have kept those things for traveling in Europe when I've visited cooler climates.

I'm caught up on laundry and the Molly Maids came on Tuesday to clean, so I'll be a lady of leisure the rest of the afternoon.  I'm reading one of the library books I checked out yesterday and will finish it and probably start on another one.

I did put all my Christmas stuff in the attic yesterday and happy that is cleaned up.  I'd already taken my ornaments off the Christmas tree and Tim came over on Tuesday and boxed the tree up for me.  He also put it back into the utility room, so that's done until next year.

Mary, I don't remember a year during the time I was a student at U. of South Carolina that the temperature ever got down to freezing and certainly NO SNOW!  People must have been amazed and probably didn't go anywhere in their cars--especially if they'd never seen it before.

Wow, Marilyn.  A Pit Bull that weighs 85 pounds!  That has to be a struggle.  You're a great friend to help out, but it sounds as if she needs a smaller dog.

Sharon, I'm sorry you're feeling lethargic, but am proud that you are sticking to your exercises at home.  Keep up the good work and hopefully things will get better soon.  What's the weather like up your way?

Not much else going on here.  I think I'll start a pot of veggie soup to eat this evening and have some for the weekend.  Stay warm, Buddies.

Still we are freezing here. Sun is out and so going to clean off car again  and get to the Grocery store. I am all out of water so need to fill up my 4 gal bottles and buy 2 cases. Gone through that much in about 8/10 days. Never use tap water for drinking or cooking. They do say that our area water is good but I can taste something funny in it.

Sue. You are braver than me. walking out so early in the day. It doesn't feel bad once you get started but so many clothes on feels awful when in the stores.
Bet lots of you are making soups down in the Southern States.  Daughter in Texas says their nights getting down to 20 deg. Just 30s during day. They have a big Ranch house and Stables/ Kennels to keep heated.  She had 19 puppies to let go in December. Glad they all got picked up. She does have about 9 dogs to keep inside Kennel and warm. Just has 2 horses now. She is glad that they installed all new double glazed windows this past summer. All is Electric and this year would really cost if hadn't. Homes and places in the south are not as insulated and up here in the North where laws are strict when building anything.
I will be shocked when I get mine this month and place is small. But as long as it keeps running I am happy. So many seem to have lost their heat right now. My company that does mine say he is about 58 customers behind on their heaters work. So much flu around here also. Both Hospitals are full. Stopping visitors other than close family one at a time and wearing masks.
Good news though saying the the winter will not be long one.
hate to get out of my warm PJs but have to do it....

A burden has been lifted , I told our daughter of my cancer .  In an email my husband mentioned to her of the appt. I had on Tuesday & she asked me about it . So I called her this morning & told her step by step what has been happening . I also told her I hesitated to tell her because I didn't want to upset her . She was a little teary eyed ( I could hear her on the phone ) .  I told her what the dr.s have told me & how I'm going to continue to have mammograms & keep up on it .  I encouraged her to also have a mammogram & she said she has been thinking she should .

SharonE

Been to PT and then to the ortho Dr. for a check up. She said I have to do PT for 4-6 more weeks to try to stretch my ham strings so that I can completely straighten my leg! Not happy, but will do. I also asked her if I could get a gel injection in my right knee to take some of the pressure off the other one. She said yes but will take 2 weeks to order.

Sue, our temps and weather are about the same as yours.  Enjoy your leisure afternoon.

Hard to believe the coast got so much snow.

Jeanne, please be careful going out and cleaning your car and shopping. You just got over pneumonia!

Jane, it's good that you stocked up on yarn and books.  You're almost as cold as we are.

Ginny, are you frozen into an icecube yet?  Check in.

Alpiner, I'm so glad you finally told your daughter and that she's going to get a mammogram.  Sharon

maryz

Sharon, sorry you have to have more PT.  But as they told John after his rotator cuff surgery, when you stop doing the exercises, you stop improving - that'll be as good as you get.  So....

alpiner, I'm SO glad your daughter is "in the loop" now.  I know it's a relief to you to not have to watch everything you say to her.  And that she's getting a mammogram.

jane, stay in and get that knitting done.  Fortunately there are football games.

Sue, glad you're bundling up and doing your walking.

Jeanne, I agree with Sharon - don't overdo in your terrible weather.

Darlene, I know you're getting a "norther", too.

Be glad you're not  "easterly", Marilyn.

The low on my deck was 19 this morning, and the high was 28.  It's supposed to be more of the same tomorrow.  It's been good that we haven't had the precipitation, but...  Now they're talking about it being warmer Monday morning, but with mixed precipitation.  They're not willing to commit to anything yet.

Margaret saw her surgeon today.  She got another good report and has been released to go to work tomorrow.  She sees the radiology oncologist on Monday, and returns to the med/onc on 19 January.

Stay warm, Buddies!
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  It's still very cold here--I just turned on the weather channel and am waiting for them to put our temperature on the TV, but it just came up at 29* and it's almost 10:00.  It may get up to 40 by late afternoon and then dropping again below freezing.  Yuck!

Mary, hurray for the good report for Margaret.  I'm hoping the radiology oncologist will give her some good news on Monday (about scheduling her tests or whatever they are discussing) and also the Med/Onc on the 19th.  Keep us posted.

Sharon, I know it must be frustrating to have to continue the PT, but stick with it and hopefully it will become easier.  Are you having snow up there?  We don't have any but it is VERY COLD!  I think I'll postpone my morning walk until after Tim and I go to lunch and grocery shop.  Hopefully it'll warm up a bit by then.

Alpiner, I'm glad you've told your daughter.  I don't know how old she might be, but knowing you have cancer, it is important for her to start getting mammograms.  How old is she?

Jeanne, you are right about soup for these cold days.  I made a very large pot of vegetable soup yesterday and will eat most of it in the next day or two and put some in the freezer.  I hope you are staying inside and are warm.  I went outside last night about dark and made sure all my outside faucets are covered.

I do have double glazed windows which I had installed when I moved up here in 2004.  They help some, but my house is brick with no insulation between the walls and it sure gets chilly when the temps are this low.

Have a good day, Buddies, and stay warm!
Sue

SharonE

No snow here, Sue. It all went east of us.  Very cold though and a chance of rain or sleet Mon or Tues.

Mary, so glad Margaret has gotten good reports and is able to return to work. I hope the good reports continue.

I'm going to my primary Dr at 2:00 to discuss my tests and medicine.  From what I know, the thyroid tested low which is no surprise. One thing that did surprise me was that my glucose was only 80!  I don't think it has ever been below 95 before. Not sure if that is good or bad.  With diabetes running in my family, I've always been happy with just under 100.

As to the PT continuing, I know it is important and I will do it, but I don't have to like it!  :D

Stay in and stay warm everyone!  Sue, be careful taking your walk.  Sharon

Marilyn

I took Keith to the Doctor yesterday he is doing OK She increased his Aricept to 10 mg. Told him to cut way back on the cake and ice cream intake, get more exercise and is referring him to a dermatologist. He has no behavior changes due to the Alzheimer's dementia, I think that means thing like wandering off, getting lost and things like that.

SFSue

Alpiner, I'm glad you've told your daughter.  I don't know how old she might be, but knowing you have cancer, it is important for her to start getting mammograms.  How old is she?

She is 57 .

jane

Alpiner...I hope your daughter gets her mammo soon, esp. now with your history.

Sharon...more PT will make you better, I'm sure.

Sue, Mary, and Jeanne...stay warm and safe.

It's much nicer here today.  It's in the 60s and sunny.  We're enjoying our company's visit.

jane

maryz

Marilyn, I'm glad Keith's condition is stable.  I hope that continues.

It was 13*F on my deck this morning, and got up above freezing (barely) for a high today. Then, just for fun, it's supposed to be in the mid60s by the end of next week.

I had to order a new land-line phone.  It came this morning, and I got it hooked up (I think). Maintenance installed a new door handle on my hall door and I got new keys.  Things are very exciting around here.

The Olympics are going to be coming up before too long.  Are y'all planning to watch any of the events?
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  It's very cold here this morning,  38* right now at almost 11:00 a.m.  I've had breakfast and bundled up and walked over to the library and back.  I have enough books to last through probably Wednesday so I'm happy about that.  At least it's sunny with no precipitation!

Sharon, I hope the check up yesterday  went well.  As for the PT, you will be glad you kept to it when it's finally over.  I know it's not fun, but hey, who said getting older had to be fun.  It's just a pain in the rear that every day can't be pain free!  I hope today is better for you.

Marilyn, I've been taking 10mg of Donepezil for a year now.  It's the generic for Aricept.  Through all this after the fall, my long term memory is great, but the short term memory is more difficult.  Tim and I use my kitchen calendar to keep me up with my daily activities and that helps.  I'm cooking, daily chores like fixing my meals, making my bed, etc.  but do have a cleaning crew every 2 weeks who change my sheets, clean the bathrooms, and mop all the hardwood floors, plus run the vacuum cleaner, so that's a big help.

Alpiner, my oldest son is also 57--second who lives here is 55, and my youngest son is 50.  The oldest lives in Illinois and the youngest in New Orleans.  I was in my early 30's when I discovered my BC and have had no recurrences and am doing well.

Jane, I have plenty of warm clothing left from our tours in Maine, so I'm keeping warm.  Auburn is north east of Montgomery and can be cooler than the counties to the south of us, but they are also having lots of cold weather down there, too.

Mary, I'm planning to watch some of the Olympics, mostly the skating and skiing.  I enjoy watching and would you believe that Auburn has made an artificial ice rink downtown in one of the city parking lots?  I still have my skates somewhere, but don't think I'll try it--skating with a cane sounds like a pain!

I have to teach SS tomorrow as our teacher has pneumonia.  I'm hoping I can get someone to pick me up for SS and who will bring me home as soon as church is over.  Olyne's son from California is here today and leaving later tomorrow afternoon.  I have a women's basketball game at 2:00 and I don't want to sit at Burger King for an hour and probably irritate my ride to the game!

Stay warm and enjoy your weekend, Buddies.

Marilyn, I'm so glad that Keith is stable. I've heard good things about the Aricept.

Mary, we set a low temp record yesterday of 10 degrees!  But it got up to 30 in the afternoon. It was 13 when I got up this morning.  Monday is to be in the 40's but with a chance of icy rain in the AM. Ugh! 40's all next week ending with 50's which is normal!

The dr said my thyroid was low and upped my dosage. All my other #'s were good since he doesn't test cholesterol anymore.

We went to Rock Hill and Fort Mill to  get my glasses fixed and my tires aired up. Both places were closed! :tickedoff: :tickedoff:  I did get my RX picked up though.

Nothing new here.  Sue, good luck getting a ride and teaching SS tomorrow.  Sharon

jane

Nice day here and we all got out and walked.  Nephew and wife had walked down to the jetties and they were in the right place at the right time to see the Sea Turtle Rescue people put the sea turtles back into the Gulf.  They'd been rescued (about 100 of them, from a few pounds to 40-50 pounds) during the awful cold spell.  A few didn't make it, but 100 or so were released back into the water.

We took them to lunch at a quirky place, then did some grocery shopping and got chicken wings for tomorrow as we watch the last 2 big Wild Card pro football games.

Tonight we're taking them to a seafood restaurant that's recently reopened after being closed for two months for a remodel.

Nothing else new here.  I'm hearing a lot of people up north have that awful flu and it going to bronchitis and pneumonia.  We talked to friends at home and it was -16 this morning.  That's Chilly!!

jane

maryz

jane, glad you're having such a nice visit.  So exciting about the sea turtle release.  We've often had nests in front of our beach house in Gulf Shores.

Sue, your walking is to be commended.  I'm such a sloth.  I can't say that I'm sorry about Tennessee's recent basketball victory over your Auburn, but I'll be nice about it.

Sharon, we're all glad we haven't had any precipitation.

They're still taking about freezing rain on Sunday night/Monday morning, so I probably won't get out in the dark to go to swimming.  I may get to coffee, though.  I have to get to the post office and the bank Monday, and it's supposed to warm up fairly quickly.  Margaret is going to the Lady Vols game tomorrow afternoon, so will stop by here to go to supper on her way home.

May all your football teams win over the next few days.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

I'm crossing my fingers for the Panthers. They were pretty pathetic last weekend. Hope they can get it together to beat the Saints tomorrow in spite of 2 previous defeats to them this year.

IU won its last 2 games, but they still aren't ranked.

It's 3 AM and I'm still awake, but I'm going to go back and try again.  Don't know why. I'm not even hurting.

And I have to get up for church at 7:45 tomorrow.  Ugh on the lack of sleep time but glad to get back to SS.

Jane, so glad you're having good weather for your guests and having fun.  The turtle release is awesome.

Mary, I hope we don't get the precip Monday.  Be careful.  Sharon

alpiner1

In the past few days I have had itching & blistering  on the sides of my hands .  The breast cancer dr. started me on Anastrozole about a month ago . I would think if its a reaction it would have come sooner .

jane

Alpiner....I've given up trying to figure out some of these things that simply appear on our bodies...esp. the skin.  My dermatologist says if it goes away on its own or drops off, it's all good.  I guess that's the medical terminology for it.  At least you got some creams to deal with the symptoms.

I hope all our Southern Belles....Sharon, Sue, Mary, Joy get some warmer temps soon.

The pool people are out again doing aerobics and last night there were 10 people in the hot tub.

Today is a quiet day here...enjoy the 70 degrees, walk on the beach, watch football, sit on the balcony and watch the waves come in on the beach.

Hi! Girls:
After the SNOW (practically unknown in Baton Rouge), temps so LOW (also rarely
known in Louisiana), we are enjoying sorta normal weather for this time of year-high
today 64---low 56.  However, that is due to change very soon. >:(
Joy in Louisiana!
