Tim was over this morning and took me to Spectrum to try to trim my TV bill.  I don't watch much, but did get about $12 off my monthly bill.  The problem with them is they bundle so much and I don't watch much except news, sports, and movies.  The temps today are in the low 40's but expected to get to 44 with chilly rain.  Yuck!  So I don't plan to go out and walk after lunch.

Me, too, Darlene.  I only watch a few TV programs, mostly news and sports, plus I like some Hallmark movies.  I read during the day when I've finished my chores (lunch and tidying up the rest of the house).  I also listen to Music on my TV music channels until my evening PBS station puts it's programs on.  I don't watch all of those, but I do have some favorites.

Mary, I'm in for the rest of the day.  I will miss my walk, but hey, once is a while is OK!  It has sprinkled some this morning and is pretty cold.  If we have much rain, it will probably leave some ice on the roads.  I'm going to book club at 3:00 and hope it's not icy then.    I haven't read the book, but hope some who have read it will leave it in the book box that my friend Frederissa takes care of--and I'll bring it home and see if it's worth reading.  Some selections are just too "uplifting and/or boring!".

I'm off to fix some lunch and get set for an afternoon of lying down on my bed to read until Frederissa picks me up for book club.

Stay warm, Buddies.
Sue

SharonE

Sue, you're forgiven for not walking. You've walked a lot of days when I wouldn't have stuck my head out! My book club is tonight, but I"m not going. We discussed the book last year when we had a different leader and I wasn't too fond of it then--Bad Girls of the Bible.

It isn't raining or anything here, but still cold, but supposed to be up to 60 on Thurs!  Yea!!

I just got back from PT and told them what the PA said about me having to have 4-6 more weeks of PT to get my leg completely flat to the table.  They said no way did I need that, that I was 1-2 degrees away from flat, but that I could bring it down with exercises at home now!  Yea!  So Wed is my last day.  She really worked hard on it today and gave me a couple new exercises to do at home. She said to get so aggressive would aggravate my back which I sure don't need. They think I have progressed well. My flex is 125.. I'm to do them 4x a week for 3 months at home.  Not what I want to do, but easier than going there so often. The PA is new and just out of school apparently.  My main therapist has had 30 yrs of experience, so I think she knows what she's talking about.

I hope everyone is warming up now. I hate this having to bundle up to go out.  Hi to all..

Joy, you should be happy after the Saints' win over the Panthers yesterday. Charlotte is in mourning.
Sharon

maryz

Sharon, glad you don't have to go out for your PT.  Now just behave, and do the exercises at home.   ::)

Sue, I agree with Sharon - won't hurt you to miss a day.  You're lucky to have the folks to take you to the meetings.

I wish I could just sit and read.  I used to do it all the time, but that went away several years ago.  I do read, and always have a book going, but just in bits and pieces.  :(

The freezing rain finally stopped about 10, and the temp is up to 37*.  But it's still drizzly and gloomy and the fog is starting.  My partner and I have called off trying to get to bridge tonight.  She lives up on Signal Mountain (up above where I am), and it's always colder at the higher elevation.  I think we were both happy to stay in tonight.

It's supposed to warm up here by the end of the week, too.  I hope the Northeast will be thawing out, too.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

JeanneP

Well it has warmed up a little here. Now sort of a freezing rain . Just slushy were ever you try to walk. Dark and  dreary. Got my laundry take over to them (Will pick it up tomorrow) Returned everything to the library and pickup up a couple thing. Just startin to read Eliz. Berg. The story of arthur truluv. Think I am going to like it. So much around the house needs doing but hard to get in the mood this kind of day.
They are now saying 50 deg. on Thursday and then back to freezing. Making many more people sick next week. I am trying to stay away from crowded place.
JeanneP

We took our visitors back to the airport today and they've texted that they're finishing up at the grocery store and headed home to Wisconsin and that the roads are clear and dry.

We had a good week temp wise for them.  They both, with Ray, went into the pool Saturday and had long walks on the beach everyday they were there, so they got a bit "thawed out."

Ray's back to golf tomorrow with 3 other guys and I'm getting picked up for lunch with the wives.

We're watching the GA-AL game tonight and resting.  It's amazing how tiring it is having company, even when they help out a lot and don't have to be "waited on" at all.   They fixed chick wings yesterday while we watched football and then we played Mexican Train and they taught us "Chicken Foot."

Not much else new here.

jane

SharonE

Mary, a wise choice to skip bridge tonight with that kind of weather.  I have Alexa programmed to remind me of my PT each day so I won't forget it.

Jane, I'm glad you had a good visit with your guests, but I know what you mean about being worn out when they leave.  Have fun at your luncheon.

I have to drive over to Rock Hill to get my glasses repaired that I sat on!  Also need to get air in the tires since that light is on.

One of Frances' friends that I got to know came over yesterday afternoon to bring me a pot pie and some muffins.  She had intended to bring them when I was incapacitated, but she got sick and then the holidays intervened.  It was nice of her.

Not much else going on here.  Sharon

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I was dressed and ready to go to Circle Meeting at the church this morning at 9:00, Olyne called a bit after that to tell me she'd pick me up, but I'd arranged for Bonney to pick me up (Olyne's son from California had been here for the weekend and I hadn't heard from her about him leaving)  so I told her I was waiting for Bonney.  Well, Bonney never showed up and I'm sure Olyne went on to the church.  Now I've changed back into my jeans and will go for a walk.  This not being able to drive myself is the PITS!

Not much else planned for the day after my walk.  I need to water my house plants before I fix lunch.  I have several books to read from the library, so will start one of them this afternoon.

Sharon, how nice that one of Miss Frances's friends brought you a pot pie and muffins.  It sounds yummy--and was very nice of her.  Is she close in age to what Ms. Frances was?

Jane, I'm glad you had nice weather for your guests.  I was pretty upset with the Alabama win last night.  I was hoping Georgia could pull it out.  Both teams played well, but we Auburn fans think 'Bama fans, team, and coaches are arrogant--and they win too much!

Jeanne, good idea to stay away from crowds.  This is flu time almost everywhere and so many people don't cover their mouths when coughing and also go out in public with symptoms.  Best to avoid crowds, IMO.

Mary, it's warmer here this morning and not raining, so now that I'm back into Jeans and sloppy shirts will probably get a walk in before I fix lunch.  I hope your weather is better today.

I'm ready to head out for a shorter walk than I usually do, but just can't get psyched up about it this morning.  Have a good day, Buddies.

Sue

jane

I got our sheets into the laundry and did a walk.  Housekeeping just came to exchange the other bed sheets and towels.  I usually do most of the towels myself, but it's a nice service after having guests.

I'm now dressed for lunch out with the golf wives.  Life is so exciting at the beach ![Almost like life back home in IA!]  I posted a pic on my Facebook page this morning from my balcony....watching the pool people do their aerobic exercises.  Does exercise work if you just watch?  :smitten:

Have a good Tuesday!  I need to get downstairs to meet "the girls" who are coming to pick me up here.

Jane. So glad to see that the weather has gotten nice for you now. Nothing worse than being at the beach when its cold and not Sunny.  Years ago we always went down the Florida east coast from Day after Christmas for 3weeks. One year there we spent at least a week filling sand bags for the storm coming in and then 8 days cleaning up. I don't think we ever went back after that.
I thought I could get into your FB account but guess I don't have you name in there. I seem to be using FB more now. I have always been in the one that brings up my HOme town in England only but some people in the US get posted in it such as my family and some friends I have on FB  here in US. I use it mostly.
Sue. I bet they wondered what happened to you not showing up at the Church. Really got wires crossed on that trip.
Going up to 50 deg here tomorrow. should get rid of some of this dirty snow that is piled up

Marilyn

Hello, every Buddy. Sorry I have been AW and didn't pass the eye test. They gave me a form to have my eye dr fill out. Since I was only there 3 weeks ago he may just use that exam or perhaps have me come in to be fitted with a light pr of glasses for distance. The lady at DMV told me that the eye dr. machines are much better than theirs so they may just fill out the forms and have me take them back. I sure do need to be able to drive since Keith can't drive.

We met up with some of Keiths boys and families for lunch yesterday, they were in town for their mother's wedding on Sunday.

SharonE

Marilyn, I hope there's no problem getting the eye test approved. You certainly do need to drive.

Sue, too bad about the ride mixup. Did you get your walk in?

I found out my glasses can't be ffixed and since I need a new pair anyway, will wait to my test. Those were back up glasses.  I got the air in the tires--not really low, but the light was on.  Also picked up John's jacket that I had cleaned.  It didn't get all the ground in dirt out on the sleeves when I washed it, even though I sprayed it with Oxyclean.  It looks a lot better.  It is a lightish weight jacket that he wears a lot. I also got his email working and set him up on FB, although I doubt he'll use it much.

I brought home half of my alfredo noodles and sauce from Christmas eve and froze it, so today, I thawed it, sauted some chick tenderloins & cut them in bite size pieces and cooked some broccoli floretss and mixed the whole thing together.  It was really good.

Jane, that was a lovely picture from your balcony.  Glad you're getting things back to normal now.

TV time.  Sharon

I have had a respiratory bug off & on since November , it didn't seem to be getting better so my husband took me to Urgent Care . I had a chest x ray which showed there was fluid in one lung . I am prone to lung problems & get pneumonia very easily . The dr. didn't say it was pneumonia  but called it "an unknown organism". I got 2 prescriptions & an anti biotic shot . I will see my primary dr. on Friday .

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  It's dark and dreary here this morning--might rain, but probably not sleet as it is warmer today.  I've been out to walk and bundled up as I usually do and was too warm.  I needed to get that out of the way as I'll be playing bridge this afternoon at Terri's.  Olyne and Sarah will pick me up about 12:50.

I need to put a load of wash in and finish that, but nothing else much to do this morning.  Thanks to the every other week visits of the Molly Maids, things stay pretty dust free here.

Jane, I'm not sure if watching others exercise is helpful, but it beats doing it yourself!  Enjoy your lunch out with the "girls"!

Jeanne, I was surprised that no one called me after yesterday's Circle meeting.  But most probably didn't notice.  I stood outside for more than 20 minutes waiting for Bonney to show up, but evidently we weren't on the same wave length about going to circle!  I guess when she and I talked on Saturday I might have mentioned that Olyne's son might go back to California on Sunday--Olyne is the one who usually takes me to church and other functions at the church.   And Olyne did call me yesterday a.m. and I told her that Bonney was going to pick me up.  My BAD!

Marilyn, I hope you get an OK from your eye doctor.  Have you had cataracts?  I had them about 15 years ago.  My Opthalmologist removed both and I am approved for driving (at least eye wise--but now restricted because of my leg brace).  Having to rely on others to drive me is the PITS!

Sharon, It sounds like you're getting back into your usual routine.  I hope you're not overdoing it--a set back would NOT be fun!  The Alfredo noodles and chicken sounds yummy.  I'm afraid I don't do much cooking unless I make soup--I eat a lot of Healthy Choice frozen dinners and salads.  And I snack too much in the evenings from boredom!

Alpiner, I hope the prescriptions and the shot ward off any more respiratory problems.  You must feel pretty weak and tire easily.  Is your husband a help with household chores?  Keep us posted.

I have bridge at Terri's at 1:00.  Olyne and Sara will pick me up about 12:50.  I'm looking forward to it as I haven't played for a while.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

maryz

alpiner, sorry to hear about your doctor visits.  Lung problems aren't to be taken lightly, though.  Glad your DH was there to get you to some care.  Keep us posted.

Marilyn, ouch on the eye problems.  I hope you can get back in the good graces of the license office quickly.

Sharon, I love those second meals brought home from the restaurants.  The servings are always so big.  I usually wind up ordering from the appetizer section.

jane, my Iowa friends have finally gotten to Weslaco/Donna.  They had an accident on the way down - neither one hurt, but damage to their RV.  Nothing is ever easy.

Sue, it's warmed up here, too - up into the 60s now.  But no sunshine.  And it's supposed to get cold again this weekend.  Crazy!

I finally got back to the pool this morning.  It surely did feel good to get back in the water, and fun to be with my buds there and at coffee.  Then things turned frustrating.  I had gotten a dividend check from one of our original investments and took it to the bank to deposit.  It was made out to [John's name (dec'd)].  The bank refused it because my name wasn't on the check and John's was no longer on the account.  This is the first time this has happend.  After I got home, I spent about 30 minutes on the phone with a nice gal who tried to help me.  To get the account in my name, I'm going to have to get lots more papers filled out and officially signed, etc., etc., etc.  I know I've been getting dividends from these folks for the last 2 1/2 years with no problems, but now?  I'm not a particularly happy camper right now, to have to jump through all these hoops, AGAIN!  Sigh...

I coughed a lot last night but slept off & on .  The shot & meds are working ! I even felt well enough to go to crochet class which started today , I had registered & paid for it online . Its through the adult education connected with the public school system .  I  really missed going to it .
Yes , my husband does help with household chores whether or not I'm  under the weather . He says he can always tell when I'm feeling better , as he puts it " I get feisty ."
Tomorrow is our 60th anniversary , our oldest son & wife & our youngest son are taking us out to dinner . Another son lives nearby but he & his wife won't be joining us , they live with her 95 year old father & son is his care giver . I told hubby I would like for the two of us to do some thing together , he was thinking about us going to a small local indian casino & I really like the idea . They have a no smoking section & there won't be very many people there during the time we will be there .

maryz

Happy Anniversary, alpiner!!  Hope you have a great celebration.

Happy Anniversary Alpiner! and hubby!

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  It rained overnight and is dark and dreary this morning, but I'm dressed, had breakfast and am ready to walk in my neighborhood.  I'll wear my rain jacket over my sweats and hope that'll hold the rain off until I get home.  I don't have much planned for today--and while I was eating breakfast Sandra came over with some leftover spaghetti as they are off to Savannah today to see son, DIL, and 6 month old baby.  I think they'll be baby sitting for a few days as both parents work.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, ALPINER!   Wow!  60 years is a real milestone.  Bob and I hoped to be together that long, but he died from cancer in 2002.  However, those 44 years were the best of my life.  So no complaints here.

Hey Mary, Darlene, and Marilyn--and everyone else who might be looking in this morning.

I'm off to take my walk now and will do piddlin' chores before lunch and read the rest of the day.  Thank goodness for my every 2 weeks cleaning crew who'll be here next Tuesday!

Have a nice day, Every Buddy!

SharonE

Hi Gals, today is a red-letter day--I went grocery shopping and used a regular push cart!  John went with me, but I still did most of the walking till checkout and then I sat down in Starbucks for a rest while John handled the checkout.  We got a huge # of coupon fliers in our Sunday paper and HT had a lot on sale that overlapped. I ended up with a $60 savings on those two + $11 something on Senior citizens.  I got a # of things on sale that I had coupons for that I didn't really need right now but will.  I am really pooped now. I also have a 3:30 ortho appt to get Synvisc injected into my right knee. I will have to have 3 of those. Not fun, but maybe it will strengthen that knee and help take the stress off the new one.  Hopefully it will put off the knee replacement on the right for a couple years or so.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, ALPINER!  We're creeping up on you. We will celebrate our 57th in June.  We're among the lucky ones to have such long marriages.

Mary, glad you got to go back to the pool and have coffee with your friends afterward. I know how much you enjoy that.

I did walk yesterday afternoon in addition to my PT session. I think my grocery walking counted for today! Don't know if I'll do the exercises today or not.   They said 4x a week, so I'm planning MWFS.

Sue, you are good to be willing to walk in the rain.  I hate to do that. I think I'm part cat!  Nice to get your neighbor's leftovers for dinner. I'm always glad not to cook.

Hi to everyone.  Ginny, check in!  Sharon

alpiner1

Thank you all for the anniversary wishes .  We went to a casino & had lunch & played a bit .  In the evening we had dinner with our oldest son & wife & our youngest son at an italian restaurant . My taste buds are still off from the illness , didn't have much of an appetite .
Talked with another son who lives nearby but they didn't join us . Earlier this week his father in law for whom our son was his care giver had passed . A daughter & another son live too far to join us .
I getting better , coughing less too .

Good morning, Buddies.  It's a bit foggy here this morning and more rain is expected.  I've made my grocery list for after lunch shopping with Tim and read the paper.  I've dressed in jeans and a warm sweater and will wear my rain jacket just in case.  I don't know where we'll have lunch, but will talk it over and decide when he gets here.

Darlene, I'm sorry about your symptoms and hope that if it is the flu, you'll get over it soon.  I know you'll rest and drink lots of fluids.  Big hugs to you for a speedy recovery.  Did you get a flu shot this year?  My newspaper tells me that there is LOTS of flu in Alabama, so I'm trying to avoid most places, but have to go to the store at least once a week.

Alpiner, your anniversary evening out with your husband sounds like fun.  Congratulations on the 60 year milestone!

My goodness, Sharon.  You and John are great shoppers and CONGRATULATIONS on pushing the cart yourself.  I hope you didn't overdo it!  I'm glad he's willing to go with you.  Woo Hoo on getting busy with the walking.  I know it must be painful, but every little bit helps strengthen your muscles.

Mary, I hope all is well with you.  You have usually posted before I get to the computer.  Whatever is going on, I hope you have something fun to do today.

It may be too early for Jane and Marilyn, but Hi to you also.

Have a good day, Every Buddy.
Sue

Yes Sue..get my flu shot every year...I too have tried to avoid crowds...think the virus is in the air....terrible cough...Darlene

SharonE

Sounds like you had a lovely anniversary, Alpiner.  You deserve it after all you've been through.

Sue, hope you had a nice lunch with Tim and got your groceries. I'm trying not to overdo.

I just got back from taking Bunny to the vet for an ear infection. Also discovered what she thinks is a salivary blockage. Will check that in 2 weeks when she rechecks the ears. She also wants to clean her teeth, but don't think that's going to happen for over $600.

Now I've got some business stuff to take care of and then PT.  Sharon

maryz

alpiner, glad you had such a good celebration.

Darlene, I'm SO sorry.  I hope you have a light case of whatever it is you've come down with.  No fun at all!

Sharon, I know you hate to ride in the cart, so I'm glad you got to use the buggy.  I like letting them shop for me and using the pick-up option.  ;)

I got to swimming this morning, and we celebrated one of our gal's 80th birthday.  Another one to join our "club".  It's been about 60 so far today (a veritable heat wave, after the last week), but supposed to get much colder and with some snow flurries later this afternoon.  It certainly continues to be an interesting winter.

Happy weekend, Buddies!
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

We went to McAllastirs Deli for lunch.  I had a cup of chili and a bacon with avocado sandwich which was very yummy.  Then we went to Kroger.  I didn't need much, but Tim reminded me that Kris's birthday is on the 14th, so I got a birthday card and wrote a check for her when we got home.  I'm glad he reminded me.  Dawn and Stacie both have August birthdays as does Bill.  Tim's is in July and Jon's in May.

I'm rereading a favorite paper back book and will lie down with it shortly.  I'm hoping it doesn't rain or snow tomorrow so that I can walk over to the library for more books for next week.  I try not to get more than 5 and mostly paper backs as they are easier to carry.  I usually finish all of them before the next Wednesday.

Mary, I hope you can get that paper work fixed quickly!  Bureaucracy make work stuff is a big fat PAIN in the neck (and other areas!).

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Hi, Gals...

Alpiner....happy belated Anniversary...and glad you had a good time with your hubby and your family.  I hope your lungs heal up soon.

Sharon...hurrah on no cart needed!

Sue...things do get mixed up sometimes on who's doing what when.  It happens to all of us, I guess.

Mary...sorry your friends had an accident on way to TX.  Mary...you'd think your bank would have that on your record when you showed them the death certificate, etc.earlier.  What a nuisance for you.

Darlene...yikes!  Take care of yourself.  I"m glad you got to a doc for antibiotics.  This flu thing is NASTY!

Things just kind of got away from me and I haven't been online for a few days.

There's apparently a lot of flu around...lots about it on TV here.

Last night we had gale force winds, so was glad to get back to the condo after dinner out with IA friends.  He'd been doing so well...gaining weight...but turns out it was fluid in his lungs.  He got some meds at the Heart Hospital in Harlingen and he's lost 23 pounds of liquid!

Ray's gone off to see the movie, the Darkest Hour.  I'm here and catching up on reading...actually, re-reading a Rosalind James book from her New Zealand series I enjoy.

Ray and Jim canceled their golf date today....50 and windy isn't pleasant.  I notice nobody is on the beach.

We're going to try the Pot Luck tonight here.  We asked about what to bring and everyone says  "whatever"...so hard to know what's expected.  We've made up a tray with ham, cheese, and veggies.

My joints continue to be a problem...colder weather as Darlene said coming and rain, too, so body isn't pleased.  Still much better than home where it's going below zero again.
