Good morning, Every Buddy.  I'm showered and dressed, have cleaned up the kitchen, and finished a load of wash which is also dried.  Tim will be over in about an hour for our lunch date and visit to Kroger afterward.  I have my list ready.  It is sunshiny outside, but pretty chilly today, so I'll have to wear a jacket over my sweater.

I had a good time at bridge yesterday at Chik'n Salad Chik.  All the members (2 tables) were present and our favorite sub was tutoring and couldn't join us for lunch, but came by after her tutoring sessions.  I had some good cards and some not so good ones, so didn't win any money--but enjoyed the company.  I had a scoop of chicken salad and a pimento cheese sandwich for my lunch and enjoyed it as usual.

After our trip to Kroger, I'll get Tim to stop at the library so I can drop off the books I've finished from last Saturday.  I'll walk over again tomorrow morning if it's not raining.  We have some paper work for taxes to look at this morning, also.

Ouch, Mary, on the toe surgery--but it sounds as if it will be a help for you and relieve lots of pain.
Keep us posted.

Marilyn, it's good to see you back and into your daily routine.  I know how much you love working with Freckles.

Jane, it's nice to meet up with friends during your winter vacation/retreat/whatever you call it.  And 82* sounds like Heaven to me.  We're still down in the 40's today, although it's supposed to get up to 60.  We have a heavy breeze, too, which makes it feel cooler.

Joy, thanks for explaining the difference between Assisted Living and Independent Living.  The place where I play bridge once a month must be a combination, too, but the women who play in this bridge group are all using Assisted Living.  (3 meals a day, sheets changed, etc.)  I think some others are independent as there are cottages on the grounds which are more independent unless the resident asks for Assisted living.  Joy, your place sounds like a good solution for you and I'm sure it makes your daughters feel good to know that you are content there.

Sharon, I see the ads on Alexa and am amazed at what "she" can do.  I doubt seriously that I'd ever want that kind of service, but I see that many people who are much more computer savvy are interested and are using Alexa and other similar programs.  I'm beginning to think I'm a "stick in the mud" type!

I need to get a bit of paper work done before Tim gets here, so will say goodbye for the present!
Sue

Jeanne, I'm also hoping to stay in my home for a long time.  I cook most of my meals during the week, eat lightly on weekends.  I do my laundry and tidy things up, but don't vacuum or mop unless I've spilled something.  The Molly Maids do that when they are here every two weeks.

Mary, I'm glad you enjoy the place where you are living and also still enjoy the independence of still driving your car and getting out with your longtime friends.  The thing I hate most about my life is that I still haven't been cleared to drive, so must depend on Tim and/or friends to take me out. It's a real pain in the gazump!

jane

Sue and Mary...I really miss bridge down here.  Yes, they have it here twice a week and I need to look into that some and see what kinds of groups they are.

I, too, think Mary and Joy are both in great places.  As Sharon said, the think I'm most concerned about is having someone who will check on us that things are OK.  Our nephew and wife have spoken to us about this at some length and I feel confident they will be sure everything is ok.

I think the main thing is attitude...knowing that the time may come when changes are needed and accepting that.  There are a lot worse alternatives than what Mary and Joy are enjoying.

It's a cooler day here and since we got our errands and groceries yesterday, we're in for day.  We'll go down and fill our water bottles and then this afternoon I need to do my offering for the pot luck tonight...meatballs and gravy again from me.  Easy-peasy.

Have a good Friday...Ground Hog Day!

Radioman34

I've been exploring the possibility of moving to a retirement community, but it's hard to find one with a monthly rent of less than $3500. For that I get 3 meals a day, planned activities, drives to medical appointments and outings to the shopping malls etc.  I am becoming quite interested and will pursue the matter when I return from Israel.

maryz

Radioman, that's in the neighborhood of what I pay - for similar services.  Have a great trip.

I played duplicate this afternoon with my regular Monday-night program.  I had terrible cards, hand after hand with less than 6 points.  The worst was one queen and no other card higher than an 8.  And, out of 10 pairs, we came in FIRST!!! It's an amazing game.

Good morning, Buddies.  I slept until about 8:15 this morning after staying up until 1:00 to watch a stupid movie--about a crook who'd stolen a huge diamond and lost it and then pretended to be a cop (and was a pretty good one, too) who solved a lot of crimes--until he was able to get back into the building where he'd hidden the diamond and get away from his police department and the FBI--by running off to Mexico!  It was a stupid movie, but entertaining.

Tim came by just as I was leaving for the library this morning and dropped me off there, so I was able to choose my books and only had to walk back home.  He recommended a different route than I usually take and although it was hillier than my regular one, it was in a quieter neighborhood--which I'm sure he felt was safer.  I don't really agree with that, but it's nice to have someone looking out for me.

My plans for the rest of the day include fixing some lunch--I'll make a 2 serving pot of rice and saute red and green peppers and mushrooms.  I'll eat half for my lunch and reserve the rest for tomorrow's lunch after church.  I try to eat my larger meals at noon--I don't like to eat a heavy meal in the evening unless I'm invited out for dinner.

When I came home from the hospital last year, I spent a month at an assisted living here in Auburn.  I had my meds dispensed daily by a nurse or nursing assistant, 3 meals a day in the dining room.  It was OK, but most people there were older and less able and mostly napped in the afternoon.  There were a few who liked to sit out on the porch after meals and talk and that was OK, but the entertainment consisted of movies on tape.  I spent a lot of time reading either outside on one of the porches and walking around the facility.  I'm hoping to stay in my home for a long, long, time.  I expect to live at least 10 more years unless I have another big heart attack.  The cost of that assisted living facility was about $2300 which was a bargain, I'm sure.

Lots of men's basketball games on here today.  I haven't checked the schedule to choose the ones I want to watch.  I'll also finish the book I've been reading since yesterday and start one of my new ones.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.  I hope you have nice weather especially if you plan to be outside today.

Sue

SharonE

Mary, you must have played a good defense to do so well with so few points!  John is always preaching defense!

Sue, that's nice that you got a ride to the library, but I wouldn't like a route that was hilly to and from. Nice that Tim is concerned though.

I didn't get to sleep till about 3:00 this AM, so slept till about 11:00.  After I had breakfast & read the paper, I had a long call from Lori.  She nearly always calls once a week to touch base and tell me what she's up to.

I've put a load of clothes in the washer. I need to get all of John's things clean because he will be leaving Monday for the week and I will need to pack for him tomorrow.

There's a possibility of freezing rain tomorrow AM, so don't know if that will prevent our going to church.

I have a final (I think) recheck on my knee this week and also an eye appt to check for cataracts. Otherwise, no plans.

I hope everyone has a good weekend.  Sharon

jane

RATS! I just lost my post.  This Windows 10 does weird stuff at times.  I clicked to Post and I was taken to Jan.21 posts and lost what I'd written.

Radioman....that's about the monthly cost for the listed services in our area of rural Iowa.

The kite fest was a bit of a bust.  Not enough wind for the big balloons.  We didn't stay long.

Pot luck last night was good.

Friends from our other complex have put down a deposit here for next year.  We'd had lunch with them a week or so ago and then they wanted to see this complex so we gave them the gold tour.  They were impressed, apparently.

Big football game tomorrow...even though my fav teams aren't going to be playing.  I'll be for the Phila. Eagles, even though I doubt they have much of a chance against NE.

jane

SharonE

Hi Gals, I skipped church today. I'm still battling this cold or allergy or whatever it is after 3 weeks. I just didn't want to take the chance of infecting anyone.

I've had breakfast, dressed, put in a load of towels, and got the meat in the crockpot for a big pot of soup. John is not happy, but I wanted to make it for dinner and then have it for the rest of the week while he's gone.  He has it ingrained in his mind that soup is only for lunch and not dinner.  I hope he will eat it tonight. If not, there's always lean cuisine!!

Jane, your Mexican dinner sounded good if there wasn't too much hot spice in it.  I'm glad the pot luck was good, and it will be nice to have your friends in the same building with you.  I wonder if the other place you rented is full this year after their rate raise.

I will be doing 2 more loads of laundry and then helping John pack this afternoon. Otherwise, I think I will be trying to finish my book. The Super Bowl doesn't interest me.

Hi to all.  Sharon

jane

Sharon...I think the old place is for Feb.  They didn't raise the rates...they changed the deposit and refund policy.  Basically you paid for 2 months rent (nonrefundable 60 or so days before arrival) in advance, plus a $500.00 reservation deposit.  The previous policy had been the $500.00 deposit only and then you paid each month at the arrival for the first month and the end of that month for the next month. No way would we put that amount of money at risk for health issues that can arise at the last minute.  Other units don't come near such a requirement.  I do know they rented our unit only for Jan-Feb., so the owner lost out on one month's rent as we had been there for Dec-Feb.

It is beautiful here today...the pool is busy and lots of people roasting in the sun by the pool.  I've walked this morning...down the sidewalk and back on the beach and it's quite hot in the sun.

When Ray finishes with his phone call  to his sister in Chicago, we're headed to the driving range for him.  Then back here and we will be watching the Super Bowl and having pizza and nachos.  Good healthy food. :roflBig:

What a beautiful Sunday...82 degrees.....been to church...getting ready to watch Super Bowl...but mabey not all of it...still lots flu and other illness...at least cedar pollen not to bad....Have a awesome day.....Darlene

SharonE

Sure not pretty here. Freezing rain this AM and then just rain all day off and on.

I've done 3 loads of laundry and packed John's suitcase.  Then I was in the middle of making a big pot of vegetable soup and was grating some cabbage to put in it and wouldn't you know, I sliced open the end of my right pointer finger. I bled like a stuck pig. John had a heck of a time getting bandaids on that would stay. So if I make lots of typos, you know why! Sharp objects and knives and I just are not friends anymore! â€" feeling annoyed.

Jane, they were lucky to get 2 months with that kind of policy.  When you're deeling with Seniors, you ought to know better.  Sharon

Marilyn

Hi every buddy. I just got a call from Safeway that my prescription is read. Rats. I am seriously thinking about having the3 color stripped out of my hair and going with the grey color that is now my natural color. After all I am pushing 80 in a couple of years. I think grey is very becoming is done up right and the make up is right.

Went to church this morning. sang high harmony on  How great thou art. Some of those high notes are hard to hit at times.

Well I better feed the animals then go pick up my meds.

jane

Sounds as if you're keeping busy, Marilyn, Darlene, and Sharon.

Sharon...you have a week to yourself with John off to tournaments.  Any special plans?

Darlene is so right about the beautiful weekend, but here on the coast, we have a very foggy morning.  I'm not sure how far inland it is...sometimes just to the causeway...and sometimes all the way to Harlingen.

We have no plans for this week, and so I think today is a good day to do some housekeeping chores around the condo.  It's small, 1300 sq. feet so it doesn't take long.

I loved the outcome of the SuperBowl...always love to see a team who's never won it before and who has had serious team injuries win the top prize.

I guess it's on the Olympics now...if one wants to escape the News 24/7.

Happy Monday! Mondays are wonderful when I don't have to gear up for a week of work ahead anymore.   :2funny:

Marilyn, I agree that gray hair can be really beautiful. I always thought ,my mother was miuch prettier after she was entirelyu gray.  Mine isn't gray, just mousy, so I will still highlight.

Jane, no special plans except to go shopping for a new harness and leash for Bunny. Her current lease has a slip knot which is hard on her neck with her new salivary gland problem. We decided against the surgery and will just have drainage done when needed and pray there's no infection.  I hate not doing what's best for her, but $2000 is just too much, especially when she's goinng to be 10 yrs old in a couple konnts.

Was supposed to be foggy here this morning, but if so, it cleared by the time I got up.  John left at 8:30 to go count moneyu for the church with some others and thjen will be off to HH for hus toournam, ent.

HJave a good day everyone.  Sharon

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies, although the morning is almost gone at 11:30.  Tim came by to help me gather up my tax stuff for Sherrill, my accountant, and also to get rid of stuff I don't need to keep.  He's going to shred lots of the old stuff that I have kept for far too long.  I'm always afraid to get rid of some stuff in case I'll need it later.

It's still chilly here and I am going to take a walk before I eat lunch as I would like to lie down and read after I clean up the lunch dishes.  I'm eating some left overs as well as salad stuff.

Sharon, my sisters Anne and Linda have totally white hair except for along the napes of their necks--and I have very few gray hairs and am almost 81--or will be on March 15.  I think I get my coloring from my maternal grandmother who was 1/4 Cherokee.  My Dad's mother had gray hair when she was 50.  Neither of my sisters have every colored their hair--and it looks very good on both.

Jane, I watched basketball games yesterday, have not watched a Super Bowl game since Bob died. They just seem to take so long and unless it's a college team I follow, I don't watch football.  But I know I'm in the minority concerning, football, so I'm glad you enjoyed the game.

Marilyn, I think you ought to go for the gray--unless you find you don't like it later.  So many of my friends with gray hair have beautiful hair and it's very becoming to their complexions.  You can also go back to coloring if you don't like the gray.

Darlene, our Sunday was rainy and chilly, but I was able to get to church and home although my usual driver had company and couldn't pick me up.  My 99 y.o. friend was staying home to avoid the flu, but her son who lives with her (and has since his wife died when his daughters were about 8 and 10.  Alice was widowed at the time and moved to California to help him) was going, so he picked me up and brought me home.  He's a retired orthopedic surgeon.

I need to get outside and at least walk around the block before I make my lunch.  I hope every Buddy has a nice day.  GinnyAnn, I'm still looking for a post from you--hope all is OK and also from you Alpiner.

Sue

maryz

Marilyn, it'll be interesting to let your hair go and see how you like it.  And, if you don't, you can always try something else.  :)

jane and darlene, glad you're getting some warmer temps. My friend, who's currently in Donna, said it was 93* !! there yesterday.  I wouldn't like that, but still it's nice in February.

Sue, I hope things keep working out for you.  Not driving doesn't seem to have slowed you down much.

Swimming and coffee this morning, and duplicate tonight.  That's it for today.

p.s.  Sue posted while I was writing, and I see she said almost the same thing I did to Marilyn about her hair.  ;D

I had an appt. with the cancer doctor this morning , she was checking on the healing of the lumpectomy , all is well .  She asked if I had started radiation & was surprised when I told her I chose not to have it . She asked why & I told her because of my age & the little value of having it & my primary doctor liked my decision . Then she agreed .
On the subject of gray hair I have some scattered here & there but they are difficult to see . Its a heredity thing , my grandpa was 1/4 Welsh & that could be it .

SCFSue

Alpiner, I am surprised, too, that you decided not to have radiation, but it's your body and you must decide what is best for you.  I chose to have it and am happy that I did.  I still see my oncologist (and have to drive 50 miles for my annual visit) but I'm always so glad that my mammo's are clean, no cancer, and feel relieved that it was so long ago!

Well, Mary, you know that old saying, "Great minds think alike"?  Well we must have great minds!

As far as grey hair goes, most of mine is still very dark, almost black.  I think I have a lot of my great-grandmother's genes.  Her mother was at least 1/4 Cherokee--and I have that kind of hair.  My two younger sisters, like most of our cousins on our mother's side (except for all the women who dye their hair!) have grey hair, too, except for black patches in the back.

Sleep well, Buddies.
Sue

I've had a "Sharon" night (or morning).  It's just past 6 a.m., and I've been awake since 4.  Unusual for me.  But I finished the book I was reading - an oldie - Daddy Long-Legs.  Remember that one?  Short, and delightful.  I just looked to see if the movie (1955 with Fred Astaire and Leslie Caron) is available.  It's not on Netflix, but I think I might be able to find it on Amazon.

Silver Sneakers this morning and, I hope, a nap this afternoon.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Mary, sorry you had a short night. I would definitely plan a nap after SS. I remember the movie, but its been years.

My parents both had ligjt hair as children, but my mothers got dark as she got older. She started graying in her 20s, I think. Salt and pepper from the time I was born and gray by 5o. Beautiful white later.  My dad's hair stayed light and had only a little gray when he died at 74. I guess I took after him.

Alpiner, I m glad that your checkup was good. I dont blame you for not having radiation.  I was only 61 when I had BC and Sue was a lot younger, so we opted for it.  Mine was also a 2B stage.

I got Bunnys new harness & leash yesterday. Shes not sure about it, but she doesnt like change.

My cleaning girl is here today, YEA!  Later I will go to Walgreens to take advantage of their once a month 20% off for Seniors.  I also need to make some phone calls.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARILYN
AND MANY MORE!!

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I got up at 7:00 to shower and eat a light breakfast.  I dressed to go to Circle meeting at church, but sadly didn't get there.  I assumed Olyne was picking me up (you know what they say about people who assume!) and finally remembered she was one of the hostesses and went early to arrange food, etc. and wasn't coming.  So I put on my jeans and sweatshirt and went out for a nice sunny walk.

Mary, one of my favorite books when I was young and living with my Grandmother was Daddy Long Legs!  It was a fun read and I enjoyed the Fred Astaire/Leslie Caron movie, too.    I think Daddy Long Legs was in Grandma's collection as I read it more than several times--especially when I was bored during the summer.  Another favorite then was Anne of Green Gables.  I AM sorry you didn't sleep well.  I know that's the pits!

Sharon, I think I was 57 or 58 when I had the BC.  I had the under the arm lymph node removal and the lump removed on the same day.  I was upset because I had to have the surgery done at Ft. Benning military hospital, but I couldn't have had a better surgeon or hospital after care.  I just had too many bad memories of long waits in military emergency rooms for stitches, stomach pumping, and I can't remember what else for very rambunctious sons!  Enjoy your morning out!

Bill is coming to Auburn tomorrow.  I have a garden club meeting tomorrow at 1:00, but should be home before he gets here.  I'm taking him out to Shakey's pizza for supper as I think he'll be here around 6:00.  I'll cook dinner for him on Thursday and on Friday he's going down to Troy, AL, for a weekend of softball games.  His SIUE ladies softball team are participating in the tournament.  I don't know if the AU team is playing this year as there has been no notice in the sports page (but that's not unusual--the sports writers seem to think men's games are the only ones which count!).  He'll return when the tournament is over--probably late Sunday afternoon and will stay until Tuesday morning.

I need to fix my lunch and get ready to lie down and read--although I also need to put a lightweight blanket on my guest room bed.  Maybe I can get that done after my lie down.

Have a nice day, Buddies.
Sue

If the cancer had appeared at a younger age I would have had radiation .  My cancer is hormone related , I was on hormone therapy in my 30's , then the cancer scare so I stopped taking it .  I am now taking a little white pill that blocks estrogen . I will continue seeing the cancer doctors & have the mammograms . The cancer edges were well defined & had not spread .

Marilyn

Apliner I took HRT for about 30 years because I had an hysterectomy at 32. I too stopped taking it aftert the cancer scare in the 90's. Mainly I was just so tiered of having to take it and told my dr. no more.

alpiner1

I got the PET scan results this afternoon .  No cancer was found in the liver !!!  I have an appt; on Friday for a diagnostic mammogram .

Good news, Alpiner!

Happy Birthday, Marilyn, and I hope it was a good one.

It was 86 today when we were in Brownsville.  We found some things for Ray, including a pair of Teva sandals.  He needs something to wear that lets his toes open.  He's so concerned about them with his diabetes and so I suggested Tevas.  We were able to find him a pair, thank heavens.

Storms to come in tonight and temps to drop, so I don't know if I can get online tomorrow.  Sometimes electricity and the internet are iffy with big storms here.

Just a quickie to say goodnight.

Jane, I hope Ray enjoys his Teva's.  I have several pairs I wear in the summer--they feel great and wear well!

Good night, Every Buddy.

Good morning, Buddies.  Here I sit in my pj's and it's almost 10:00!  I've been up a couple of hours, but am just putzing around.  Bill called and is on his way and expects to get here some time this afternoon.  I have a Garden Club meeting at 1:00, so need to call one of the members to pick me up.  This is our scholarship meeting--we give a small scholarship to a horticulture student every year--and I'm sure they are glad to receive it.

Tuition has escalated since Bill and Tim were students there.  I think Bill's total tuition for 4 years was about $3,000.  And he found scholarships for smaller amounts which helped.  Tim stayed for 2 years, dropped out to work for about 4 years, then returned in the 80's to get his degree in Building Science.  And he came home and told Bob he was going to pay for it!

I need to call Carolyn who is a Board member of the Garden Club  We are having the meeting at her church and I need to check on the agenda, plus find out who might be coming who could pick me up.  Believe me, not being able to drive is the pits!

Have a good day, Buddies.  Did I tell you it is raining cats and dogs here this morning?
Sue

maryz

Happy Wednesday, Buddies!

It was raining hard this morning, so even though I woke up at 5 (!), I skipped swimming.  I just didn't want to drive in the dark in heavy rain.  By the time I went for my Doppler test, it had stopped raining and was light, so not a problem.  The fog didn't lift until nearly noon, and it's supposed to be cloudy and drizzly all day.  I've called and let the surgeon's office know I had had the Doppler test.  They'll call me back tomorrow, and I guess we'll make some arrangements then.  Kate has said she can come and baby sit with me after this procedure.

Happy Birthday, Marilyn!!
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

I thought I had an eye appt this morning but it's tomorrow morning!  I didn't read my calendar right.

Congratulations, Alpiner!  Thats all good news.

It has been raining here off and on all day too. Fortunately, very lightly wjen I drove to Ft. Mill.

We have a situation in our SS class.  One of the women is severely depressed and has decided to go live by herself. Her husband is beside himself.  She says it's not because of anything about him, just that she wants to be alone.  Everyone is so upset about it, so I am trying to organize all the ladies to bring a pot luck dinner to their house for dinner and share it with them and assure them both of our support.  All the ladies are on board but I havent been able to reach the husband to see if it is okay yet. We can't just descend on them without notice.  I hope she will be all right. Anti-depressants have reacted badly for her.

I've done my PT except for the bike, but Im in for the day.

Sue, I know you will enjoy Bills visit. You dont get to see him very often.  Enjoy!

Mary, keep us posted on your surgery schedule.

Jane, I think Ray is wise to go with the sandals.  With diabetes, you have to be really careful of the feet and practically every other organ.  Ray seems to be managing his diet, etc well to keep it in check.
86 is hot!!  We are actually at 61 today, but with all the rain, it doesnt do us much good.  55 the rest of the week and rain on the weekend!!  I hate daytime rain, but we really need it, so I shouldn't complain.

Hope you had a good birthday, Marilyn.

Have a good day, everyone.  Sharon
