Same weather here today as the other Southern gals have...foggy, drizzly and cooler as the winds are strong out of the north.  We went to the Wed. morning coffee, and I enjoy that more than the Fri. night suppers.

We did make a grocery stores trip this morning, but got back just as the temps were dropping and the winds and rain were picking up.  Good to be in now...doing laundry and reading.

Good morning, Buddies.  It is chilly here this morning, but sunny.  Bill and I have been to Kroger with a stop at Great Clips prior to shopping.  The Great Clips shop is in the same parking lot as Kroger.  We bought what I needed, plus snack things (humus and others which Bill likes).  I'm heating a frozen casserole from a specialty shop for our mid-day meal and will make a salad.  We're going to eat sandwiches for supper as we want to leave for the women's game about 5:15 as it starts at 6:00 and we like to watch the warm ups.  I sure hope our ladies win, but who knows!

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

alpiner, glad you and your docs have come up with a plan that works for all of you.

Sue, I know you're enjoying your visit with Bill.

jane, will you be heading back to Iowa at the end of this month?  I'm glad you like the new place.

Sharon, I hope John does well at his tournament.

Today is a lovely day - there's this really bright light in the sky!   :)  And the temps are due to get up to near 70 in the days ahead.  Just Silver Sneakers and up to lunch today.  They're having a family dinner tonight, with lots of extra people to feed and find places for.  So I'm eating "at home" tonight - just some soup from a mix and cheese that I got for Christmas.  I've already got my shoes and socks off and am just barefoot or in slippers.

Happy Thursday to all the Buddies!

Mary...yes, we'll be headed home at the end of the month.

I had a restless night and my sinuses were nutso, so I'm being a slug today and may head back for a nap...after three nights of interrupted pain.

It's cold and windy and wet out there...and at home they have winter storm warnings for the weekend.  Best to stay inside and avoid it all, I think. :crazy2:

It's sunny and in the 50's here which is good for us in Feb.  Rain on the weekend though. :(

Jane, can't believe you're going to head home soon.  Lori said 10" of snow in  Chicago today! And  she's supposed to be going down to Brians this weekend!  Sorry you've had so much sleep trouble. I've slept well the past 3 days.

Sue, enjoy your game with Bill.

Mary, so far, John has not had much luck at his tournament, but there aare still 3 days left.  Enjoy being barefoot!

I am just back from the eye dr's and the grocery.  The eye dr. referred me to a cataract surgeon for assessment. She says I am right on the cusp in her opinion.  Also, I won't be able, probably, to get the multi-focal lens that I wanted because of my extreme stigmatism, but she says that will be up to the surgeon also. My appt with him is Monday, believe it or not.  John probably won't be happy because he will need to go with me since my eyes will be dialated and it may take up to 3 hours!!!  It's in Rock Hill, so I'm thinking about calling Toyota there and following up on the 30 m checkup and see if we could get it do e ate the same time--if we do it.

Tomorrow, Bunny gets groomed, for which I'm thankful. Like me, her hair gets long all of a sudden and desperately needs a cut.  My gal cut me so short the last time that I am just now growing out to normal length.

Have a good day, Gals.  Sharon

Sharon, I know each pair of eyes is different, but my  John had severe astigmatism, too.  His cataract surgery was done probably 10 or so years ago, and they were able to implant lenses that corrected his astigmatism.  After that, he only used dollar-store readers for reading, which he had stashed any place he was likely to sit down.  So wait until you see the surgeon to be sure.  Good luck, in any case.

Thanks, Mary, for the input. I would really like the kind of implant that would let me see without any glasses at all.  I didn't start wearing glasses till I was about 48 and have hated them ever since. I don't even want to have to have cheaters. It seems like I have to read something everywhere I go and I can't read much of anything without my glasses.  Isn't it fun getting old?!

I just took Bunny to the groomer and one of my neighbors invited me over for lunch today, so that will be fun.  Nothing else scheduled after picking her up other than taking her for a walk.

It was really foggy when I got up but is cleared off now.  55 the projected high and sunny.

Hope everyone has a good day.  Sharon

Sharon, John had worn glasses since he was a teenager, so his getting rid of them was a huge change.  He was also wearing a mustache at that time.  He decided if the glasses were going to go, he would make a big change and shave off his mustache at the same time.  It took me quite a while after that to find him in a crowd.  ;D  Seriously, though, one thing that can be done (if appropriate), is to put an implant with one correction in one eye, and another correction in the other.  Sounds awful, but the wonderful brain sorts it out quickly.

Mary....itís interesting that thatís how my eyes work now.  The ophth wants me to go for periods of time without glasses to let him know, when the time comes, how I want him to do the lenses at cataract surgery time.

Foggy morning here, but to clear and temps to rise.

We were to meet friends for lunch, but she just called and canceled as he wasnít feeling good.  Weíll try again next week.  I think weíll skip the potluck tonight and do a late lunch out instead.

Good morning, Buddies.  It is dark and dreary here this morning and I slept late as Bill went down to Troy yesterday morning early and my house was quiet.  I've had breakfast and a walk--happy to get that done before it rains!  I had lunch with Tim and Kris yesterday at Niffer's, a barbecue place, and that was nice.  Then Tim took me to the library to return last week's books and get some more.  I'm glad he did as I think I'd get wet if I walked over there now!

Not long after I moved to Auburn, I had cataract surgery on both eyes--one week apart.  My ophthalmologist was planning a trip to Europe with his wife and 2 teenage daughters and wanted to get it done before he left.  I had great results, no problems at all, and was able to drive at night without them if I were going some place nearby where I didn't have to read street signs.  I have a pair of distance glasses to use if I don't need them for signs.  However, I haven't driven my car for almost 2 years, so it really doesn't matter now.  Believe me, not being allowed to drive myself is the PITS!

Mary, do you have a small stove/oven in your apartment that you can use to fix meals?  Bob's mom did at her first apartment, but when she had to move into the dementia unit, that was not available.  I'm assuming for safety purposes.

Jane, I hope you're feeling better today.  A late lunch out sounds good--are there lots of places to eat near your condo?

Mary, I wore glasses from 6th grade through high school.  When I got a job in college (67 cents an hour!) I saved up until I could afford contacts which I wore until my 40's when I was teaching in Albuquerque and had outside playground duty with high winds.  So I kept the contacts for special occasions and wore glasses at school.  I now keep several pairs of dime store readers in my house if I'm going to be reading at night as lamp light seems to make my eyes tired when just reading without the readers.

Sharon, I hope your ophthalmologist finds a good solution for you.  I've been happy since I had the cataract surgery and using the cheap readers at night works for me.

Hello to every Buddy looking in, especially Alpiner, Darlene, Marilyn, and YOU GINNY ANN (it's been too long, G.A., and you need to check in!)

Sue

Thanks for all the info on cataract experiences.  I am so ready to have better vision and if that does it, then I'm for it.

It is cold and dreary here today too.  I slept late as I had read a little late.  Nothing going on here.

Jane, lunch out sounds good..

John gets home tomorrow night.  No other news here.  Sharon

A nice sunny day here ... a nice change from the fog and rain.  We went to the driving range for Ray to practice some and then stopped at WalMart for some chai tea mix and bread.

This afternoon is stripping the bed, laundry and all that domestic stuff.  We have a marinated pork loin roast in the oven for an early supper.

The movie, The Post is here and we're thinking of maybe going on Monday when the first onslaught of those who go to movies often dies off.  They're packed always on rainy days here.

Nothing else new here...guess I should see what they're showing from the Olympics.

jane, I'd love to see The Post - guess I'll wait until I can get it from Netflix/Amazon/OnDemand (whichever).  Glad you're getting some good weather.

Sue, I have a microwave and a 2-burner stovetop - no oven.  I've only used the stovetop once or twice since I moved in.  I definitely don't miss cooking.  If I get something to eat at home, I'll get some soup or dinner that can be done in the microwave.

Nothing but mist and rain here, all day today and predicted for tomorrow, too.  I've had just under an inch in my gauge so far.  But it's much warmer than it's been (55 now).  I've been watching Olympics.  I enjoy most of the events, but really hate that they spend so much time talking about the athletes and their history than they do showing the sports.  Oh, well.....

Happy weekend, Buddies!

I had my cataracts done also about 12 years ago. Got that I also needed readers at work . Ok without when driving but I do have a prescription for readers. I go every year to the Dr. and get a high test from him also. Prescription never has changed but I do have to put in drops for dry eyes.  Now I still get my glasses made. As my eyes are not alike I can put hand over eye and one brings close and one further away. I just can't see using the cheap drug store ones. I have them all over the house and in each purse but I put the good ones on for reading and on computer.
My appt. is on Feb. 28 and so see if any changes. Not noticing any. At times I wish could use glasses that stay on because I get tired of putting them on and off and always misplacing them. He gave me a prescription for me to try a different lense but I couldn't walk in them. He says I didnt try long enough. So back with the regular pair.
It is still so cold. snowing and dreary here. I am getting fed up with the weather. Should run to library but it will close in 45 min and My car needs the snow cleaning off it again. Will go tomorrow. Got lots on the Hold shelf.

Hi Gals.  John got home about 12:30 as he decided he was too tired to play this afternoon.  When my alarm went off this AM, my back was hurting so much, I had to take a tramadol and lay there for an hour beffore getting up to send Bunny out and feed her. I was so disgusted at not being able to go today.

Now, I'm doing laundry, as that is always the gift John brings home from his tournaments!   :)

I haven't watched more than a few monutes of the Olympics. Like you, Mary, I get tired of all the talk. Fortunately, I picked up a good book at the library this week that I had been wanting to read--Nora Robert's Come Sundown.  Set in MT at a dude ranch/resort.  But of course has murder & romance mixed in too.

Jeanne, I'm not surprised you're tired of winter!  It's been almost non-stop for you.  I'm worried about Lori driving back to Chicago from southern IL. I'm not sure if she will be driving today or tomorrow.

Brian's wife Traecy, has a tradition to cook the cuisine of whatever country is hosting the Olympics on oopening day, so she made a real Korean feast. Between their enjoying Melanie's Korean cooking and Brian's assignment in Seoul, they really like the food. Personally, there are only a few dishes I can handle and our visit to Seoul's restaurants was a disaster for me with all the hot spice they use.  When Melanie cooks Korean when I'm there, she chooses things that aren't spicy or that spice can be added to for Sangmin and her.  Consequently, I get along fine there.

Nothing much else going on here.   Sharon

I was up reading at 2 this morning, and just couldn't get back to sleep - even in the chair.  I gave up about 5, and fixed some oatmeal.  I was reading the paper, and finally dropped off, slept until 9:30!  As usual, it's been a quiet weekend.  Margaret will be here in about an hour.  She's been to the Lady Vols game (they beat UGA), and usually stops by for dinner on her way home.  There's been some sunshine today, but the total for yesterday and today (so far) has been 4.5".  Rain is predicted at least in small amounts every day this week.  Been doing lots of "Olympic-watching".

Sorry you're having a bad pain day, Sharon. Hope it's better by now.

Happy Valentine's Day,  Buddies!

Sharon.  I don't know if Lora should be heading back to Chicago tonight if she will be driving when dark. Horrible snow storm on top of 10 inch they just got. Saying that the highway not keeping up with the cleaning of the ice on the Interstate. Only thing is it is Sunday and not as many people on the Roads other then we get more big truck on the Interstate Sundays. Showing a few pile ups holding them up at this time.

Sharon....glad John got home early...And that Lori gets back to Chicago safely.

What started off as a nice day, turned cold and misty and foggy.  Itís in the upper 50s and very windy...and there are 8 or so people down in the hot tub.  Some of them must sleep there.  :idiot2:   It looks like a germ incubator to me.  :2funny:

I watched hockey this afternoon, we went out for an early supper, and will probably watch Olympics tonight.

Lori kept up with the forecast and left Sat. night, but still ran into snow in Bloomington, IL up to Chicago, but she arrived safely. I was really worried about her till she called.

My back is better today, thank goodness.  Mary, we only got about an inch--maybe--of rain over the weekend, but like you have a chance for rain all week.  I'm sorry you couldn't sleep. It is so frustrating to lie there and know you need it and not be able to get it.  Enjoy Margaret.

Jane, sorry your weather is yucky again.  Enjoy the Olympics.  I may watch some of them tonight, but I have a good book going, so may not.

I'm ready to leave for the eye dr's in a while. Somewhat nervous.  Sharon

Good morning, Buddies.  I've been up, had breakfast, yakked with Bill, and had my shower and dressed.  I'm going to book club at 3:00 and will be home by 4:00.  Bill and I will have a larger lunch at noon and then sandwiches about 4:15, so that we can leave for the women's basketball game about 5:15--we like to watch the warm-ups.  The game starts at 6:00.  I think we're playing Vanderbilt, but will have to look at my tickets.

I'm waiting for him to finish his shower so that I can run the very full dishwasher.  But he's doing something on his computer, which is probably answering e-mails from his office in Illinois.

It's dark and looks like rain, but so far none.  I'm hoping Bill shuts my car lights off so that we won't have to get the Campus Police to jump start my battery.  He didn't do that last time and the battery ran down.  His truck and their cars must automatically shut everything down.  Mine still needs some driver assistance!  It's a 2010 Toyota which I intend to keep driving (or having Tim drive) for the rest of my life.  This is my 4th or 5th Toyota--and the only brand I've bought since our second Chevrolet was a lemon in Albuquerque.  We already had a used Toyota that we bought when Bill and Tim were new drivers and were very pleased with it.

Hi Sharon.  Your post was here when I finished writing mine.  I hope the Eye Doctor appointment goes well.  If he decides removing cataracts is in order, go for it.  I'm sure glad I did.  It made a tremendous difference, especially in driving at night.

Have a good day, Every Buddy.

Sue....maybe put a note on your steering wheel now to turn off the lights.

I'd surely forget as our cars have had the auto turn off for the last several.  Thank heavens.  We left them on once whle going to Mackinac Island on the ferry....car on the mainland....and no go starting it when we got back.

Good yucky morning here...high 50s and a north wind....guess we're at the tail end of the big rain storm going across the south to Sue, Mary, and Sharon.  Nobody is walking the beach, so you know it's nasty out there.

I watched that Norwegian who fell at the start of men's cross country ski get up and end up with a gold medal.  Those are the stories I like.

I'm moving slowly this morning, but need to shower and get dressed if I'm going to go down and look in on the bridge thing.  I imagine they'll have a lot of players with the weather yucky out.  The movie theatre will be jammed, too, so we'll pass on that.

Thanks for the tip, Jane.  I don't think I'll have to worry about it, though, as Tim drives me most places and he's very aware that he needs to be sure the lights are turned off!

AU women played Vanderbilt this evening and despite a few worries, we won!

Sleep well, Buddies.

MARDI GRAS today, Babes!

Not a festive day here, today, but they keep saying temps will be in the 90s by the end of the week.  Geez, one extreme to another.  It's cold and wet, but the golfers went off to B'ville.  Silly guys.

I went down yesterday afternoon and had intended to just watch, but with me they had 12, so 3 tables and I played.  Everyone seemed very nice and were good players, but not naggers who replayed every hand to you to tell you what you did wrong.

That was my excitement yesterday.  Today will be quieter. :coolsmiley:

Sue, hope your girls won last night and that Bill remembered the lights.  Mine have been automatic for years too..  Sounds like you had a nice visit with Bill.  Is he going home today?

Jane, nothing worse than a nasty day on the beach.  Good day to stay in and read. Glad you got a chance to play bridge and enjoyed it.  Our church is having a Shrove Tuesday pancake dinner but I don't think John & I will go.

Well, the cataract doctor said both of mine should come out, so I am scheduled for Mar 29 & Apr. 12. I did order the multifocal lens and he said my astigmatism wouldn't be a problem because it was caused by my cataract!  Amazing what they can do.  I'm a little nervous about it, but sure want to get rid of the blurry vision.  The mf lens is expensive and is out of pocket, but I went with it anyway.  We arrived at the Dr's office at 11:40 and left a little after 4:00.  Such a long time. Much of it waiting.

Nothing scheduled for today, for which I'm thankful.  Sharon

It's almost afternoon here, Buddies.  My cleaning ladies were here at 8:00 and out a bit before 9:00, so my house is clean and my sheets have been changed.  Bill left at 5:30 a.m. to drive home, so I told him goodbye last night before I went to bed.  He was ready to sleep then.  I had to get up before 8:00 and get dressed, had showered before I went to bed.  Bonney and Jean picked me up about 9:15 to take me to the Circle meeting.  We didn't get started right away as Olyne and Carol were co-hostesses and had LOTS of food.  I only ate fruit, but they had eggs, sausage, fruit, and desserts.  Way too much food at 9:30 in the morning!

Jane, Auburn had a Mardi Gras parade down town last Saturday and the people putting it on had a formal dance afterward (at a steep price as the funds were going to charity).  Our downtown is only about 4 blocks long--so they started at our church, turned onto the main street, went past the shopping area (about 2 blocks) and turned up our street at the Baptist church which is about 3 blocks from us.  They had a pretty good turnout for the parade and a good time was "had by all!"  according to both newspapers.

Sharon, our girls won, but it wasn't pretty and we didn't put the game away until very close to the end of the 4th quarter.  I know you will be really happy when your cataract's are removed.  It has made a HUGE difference in my life!  I keep a couple of pairs of cheap dime store readers to use after dark if the book I'm reading has smallish print, but otherwise don't wear glasses at all--after a life time of wearing them.  I did wear contacts for about 10 years, but when I was teaching in Albuquerque, we had to go outside for playground duty and the wind was so bad every day that I had to start wearing my distance glasses outside--and then just decided, what the hey and have done without them ever since.

I hope all the Buddies who haven't checked in today, will show up later.  AGAIN, GINNYANN, where are you?  I miss you!

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Hooray, alpiner!  Those are always days for celebration!

Sharon, glad you're going to have the cataracts done.  I hope you'll be as pleased as the rest of us have been.

Sue, glad that your Lady Tigers won their game last night.  The Lady Vols won on Sunday, too.

jane, sorry about your weather. After our 4" of rain over the weekend, it's supposed to be cloudy and drizzly all week long.  But at least not as cold.

Jeanne, I hope you're able to dig out from all your snow.

We came in in the middle last night at bridge.  But I did make one blockbuster hand...competitive bidding and we wound up at 5 hearts doubled and vulnerable - and I made 6.  Over 1000 points on that one hand.  It would have been more if we'd bid the slam, but who knew.

How are things in Texas (Darlene) and in Oregon (Marilyn) and in Indiana (Ginny Ann).

My car makes a loud noise it I leave the lights on or leave the Key in the starter. But regardless I have done both things more than one time. Thought as elsewhere as I get out. shut the door with the lock down and see the keys dangling in the starter. I have started to carry a second set of key in my purse. Now to make sure I pick it up before I get out of my seat.  Can't say its a age thing because I did it years ago also.

When I came home from Circle Meeting I ate a light lunch  of leftovers and got on my bed to read.  I was about halfway through Chris Bohjalian's Skeleton's at the Feast.  It was about a family who lived in Germany and were gentlemen/women farmers.  The father and oldest son were at the front in the German Army.  A young man from Scotland who'd been captured after parachuting from an English airplane was captured and assigned to work at the large farm.  Then the Russians began to invade that area--very brutal scenes, lots of people murdered by Germans AND Russians--and a young Jew disguising himself as a German officer.  Intriguing plot and a good read although brutally honest about War.

Hurray, Alpiner!  I'm happy that your mammo was negative!

Wow, Mary, what a hand!  What fun to get a great one occasionally (and often would be fantastic!).

Jeanne, if I'd been driving I'd have turned of the lights and didn't realize Bill hadn't done that.  I was afraid I'd have to buy a new battery but after the campus police charged it, all was well.  I've learned that all the new cars and trucks seem to turn off all lights and accessories when the key is taken out of the ignition.

Sleep well, Buddies.

I've read the paper, had breakfast, showered/shampooed/dressed for bridge.  I still need to get outside for a walk, but need to call Olyne in hopes she can pick me up to go to bridge. Not being able to drive myself is the pits.  I have no idea if the boys will ever let me drive again!  My other bridge club is meeting tomorrow, too, and I think Bonney will pick me up.  I need to call her this afternoon to be sure.

Not much else to report here.  Have a nice day, Buddies.
