Nothing exciting here, either.  We went to Wed. Coffee and Ray won a prize...2 mugs filled with chocolate candy....

I'm off in about 10 minutes to drive to PI for a needed haircut.  That'll be my last here.  Ray played golf yesterday in miserable (to me) conditions...wet, cold, windy, so I'm convincing him he needs to stay in today and rest up.

Weather man said 90s by Thurs and Friday, but none of my weather apps comes near that...more like 70s.  It's foggy again, too, but I'll leave in plenty of time and turn my fog lights on.

Hi Gals, I slept in till 9:00 today. I have been so tired for the past couple of days. I had coffee instead of tea this morning, so I feel a little more alert.  I've read the paper ad had breakfast and lunch and sorted through some donations I'm giving to the Kidney Assn.  They called and I already had a big bag of clothes collected that I just hadn't done anything with. I like to note down what I give and keep it for tax purposes. However, don't know if we will get much credit on charity gifts anymore.

We're going out to dinner tonight to celebrate Valentine's Day, but not to any place special.  Just an excuse for me not to cook!  :)

Cogratulations, Alpiner. I'm so happy to hear you got the all clear.  Jan 15 was my 17th yr. anniversary of my BC surgery.  All clear since.

Jane, since Ray is diabetic, do you get all those chocolates?  I'm sure you will be glad to get your hair cut. Mine has just grow out to where I like it, but probably another week or so, I'll have to go get cut again. I'm really goig to lecture her on not scalping me like she did last time!

Mary, woo hoo on the great bridge hand.  You were brave doubled ad redoubled and vulnerable. I'm not surprised you didn't go to 6.  Last time I played bridge, I had a hand that I bid game on and made six, but there was really no way of knowing we had such a good fit.  That's bridge for you.

Sue, sounds like you are playing lots of bridge this week I feel so bad for you that you can't drive. I know how isolating that must be when you live alone too. Thank heaves you have lots of friends + the organization that drives you.

Hi Jeanne. How's the snow situation now?

Everyone have a good day.  Sharon

JeanneP

Sue. Going to check and see if library have that book. Think I would enjoy reading it. Me living through the 7 years of that war one would think I wouldn't want to read about what went on but I like to. Some things make me remember.
Surprise that the Univ. Police charged you battery. Ours are not suppose to get you into you locked cars anymore and other problems they will give you names of companies to call.
It is up around 50 deg here today but raining of and on. Still I need to get out to the grocery store.
I did take and wash my car yesterday. Get some of the salt off it. How I would love to get that power hose on to the house siding. Everything looks such a mess.

Sharon...Ray doesn't touch any candy or desserts with sugar in them...and very few that are sugar free.  He's very careful about his diabetes and his kidney disease.

Alpiner....congrats on the good mammo.

Mary...whoohooo on the bridge hand.

I got my haircut and went to WalMart for my Evista refill...and, of course, they didn't have enough to give me my 90 day supply, so I'll need to go back tomorrow or Friday.

Nothing much else here...watched some Olympic speed skating and skiing, but not much else.

Good morning, Buddies.  I've had breakfast and read the paper, but need to shower and do a little picking up of things I've left scattered here and there (books and newspapers).  I finished my last library book David Baldacci's The Escape about 10:30 last night, so will probably reread something in my collection after the basketball game this evening.  Tim will take me this evening, but he doesn't know if Kris will be joining us.  I think she has something planned with her Mom.

My Thursday bridge club will play at Merilin's home at 12:30.  Bonney will pick me up and bring me home.  I played in the Wednesday club yesterday--Carolyn picked up Helen and then me and we were 30 minutes late.  Some of the members were annoyed, but no one said anything.  This club is not nearly as fun as the Thursday club, however 3 of us are members of both.

I haven't been watching the Olympics--too much basketball on TV I want to see.  AU men are doing well and may get into a good tournament.  They are playing Kentucky here tomorrow night, I think.  Our women's team is good, but most of the other SEC women's teams are better.  I hope we win tonight, but I'll enjoy getting there, either way.

Have a nice day, Buddies.

Good Morning....clear and bright and warm here.

The FL shooting has me so upset.  I hope the Congress and the States give more consideration to the Sandy Hook Promise group who proposes a way for those who are deemed mentally ill can be separated from their guns for a period of time.  It seems people knew this kid was one of those.

jane

Sandy

I agree Jane.

Unfortunately,  most guns are available
everywhere,  and it is a personal choice
gun owners make to keep them out
of the reach of the mentally ill and  children.

It is so very complicated and political
here in the US  then I don't see how a
workable solution  will ever be reached
in our life time.

I know that this is a negative way to
view guns here in the USA,  but I
can't see the solution.   And if there is
a solution,  I can't see it politically
happening.

I choose to hope for a miracle ....
that will bring out the best in people,
in order for change to happen that might
help solve the gun crisis here in the the
States.

Good morning, Buddies.  I'm slow in getting started this morning as just before I went to bed, my virus protection program gave me a warning and I had to wait until the bug was found and cleaned up.  I don't go to unknown web sites, so I'm always perplexed when I am alerted to something like that.  I hope it is OK today.

Tim's truck is having problems, so he used my car to take me to the basketball game--we lost!  And then took my car home and will pick me up for lunch and grocery shopping about 11:00 this morning.  He'll probably drop my library books off at the library for me and I'll walk over tomorrow as we're not expecting rain this weekend.

As far as guns go, we always had guns at our house, but always locked up in a gun safe and the boys had to take gun safety classes and also learn from Bob when and how to use a gun.  None of them hunt now except Bill, who makes an annual trip to a friend's property for duck hunting in Kansas whenever that  is in season.  I have a BB gun here at the house, but don't use it.  Nothing here to shoot and I have no desire to do so.  However, I used to go hunting with friends as a teen, but mostly shot bottles!

Anyone who has guns in their home should have them under lock and key and not available to any child.  (and this is my sermon for the day!). I agree that guns are far too available and are not carefully taken care of.  Gun violence has grown to be a major problem here in the U.S.  And the NRA has much to answer for!

It's sunny and warmer here today.  I hope to get some walking in later today.  Have a good day, Every Buddy!

Hi....beautiful day here...and climbing in the mid 80s.

I had a rough night, and will take it easy this afternoon...and then the potluck downstairs.

We have a traffic problem the last week.....they’re putting in new sidewalks up and down the main north-south highway...but they sure have created a huge problem up the street fem us.  If this is an indication of what spring break is like, I’ll be delighted to be gone.

I went to find my prescription at WalMart...and they couldn’t find where it’d been placed.  They hunted and hunted....I suggested it was in the safe....since the cost was $364.00. They always ask me if I know how expensive Evista generic is....and druggist asked if I wanted 90day supply...or just one month. They did finally find it.

We’re in for the rest of the day...not fighting that traffic mess.

The Sea Turtle Center is having an Open House of their new facility tomorrow.  We’ll go by later in the week.

SharonE

Jane, sorry you're having a painful time today.  Your Evista is way more expensive than mine. I suppose it depends on which MC D insurance you have.   I just filled mine last week and I think it was around $260 for 3 months.  I have Cigna, which is Aetna.

Sue, sorry your girls lost, but glad Bill is getting you around.

I went to the Pod brunch at 9:15 this morning and then to the grocery. They had a $20 off coupon at HT starting today, so I didn't go yesterday, my usual day.  Of course you had to spend $100.  I stopped at the library after the grocery to drop off a book, pick up another Nora Roberts and a New Zealand book for John. He's going there in Feb 2019 on a tour. I'm not that enthused about it or able to do the walking, etc required.  He's always wanted to go there. If I were younger and more agile, I would probably enjoy it too as I've heard it is beautiful.

By the time I got back from all my running around, my back was killing me. I should have taken a pain pill at the brunch before I headed to the grocery, but I didn't.

I did get my reservations made for Tallahassee for 3/20-23.  That will squeeze it in before my cataract surgery.

Hi to everyone.  Sharon

maryz

Sue, glad that your car was available for Tim to use.  Since he takes you a lot of places, it sounds like a good way to keep it moving. Sorry your Lady Tigers lost.  I saw that my Lady Vols lost last night, too - and to that other team from your state.

jane, so sorry you're having a pain-day.  I hope you're better soon.  We got caught in some spring break traffic on SPI during one of our Valley trips.  I'm sure it's much worse now - and especially with road work going on.  Doesn't sound like good planning to me.  I'd love to see the Sea Turtle Center.

Sharon, I envy John his trip to New Zealand, and sorry you won't be going.  We spent three weeks there, and absolutely loved it.  My John always said if he were ever thinking about emigrating somewhere, it would be to NZ. It is an extremely long trip to get there, though.  What's up with a trip to Tallahassee?

I see I haven't posted in a day or so.  Just nothing much going on around here.  I have gotten the surgery scheduled - it's for next Wednesday, 2-21.  Kate is coming on the 20th for baby-sitting duties.  The surgery is at the large downtown hospital, but I can get my pretesting done at the smaller branch which is about a mile from here.  I'm getting my hair cut tomorrow, and will get a manicure on Monday to remove the nail polish.  I'm sure there are things I'm not thinking about, but...

Happy Friday to all the Buddies!

Good morning, Buddies.  I slept a bit later this morning and ate breakfast and have been outside for a walk.  It's a beautiful sunny day today and I didn't need a jacket--and had on a long sleeved t-shirt and was sweating when I returned home.

One of my friends in my Sunday School class died this week--he was in his 90's and has been ill for some time.  I will attend the funeral this afternoon.  Ethel will pick me up and bring me home.  There will be a reception after the service at Baird Hall in the church.

Good grief, Jane!  That is a terrible price for Evista--I take it, also, but Bob paid into the military Tri-Care for Life program and my payments are very small.  And it's something I'll take for the rest of my life.  It seems to me most insurance companies are not very sympathetic to Seniors!

Speaking of the Sea Turtle center, have any of you other Buddies visited the sea turtle center in Charleston, South Carolina?  I forget the name of the author of many interesting novels, but she visited a "house" party I attended near Charleston and we were invited to visit the Sea Turtle Center there--and also into the area where they were nurturing turtles that had not made it to the beach after hatching.  It's a very interesting experience.  I checked out the Sea Turtle Center Jane mentioned and it is doing some fantastic work for sea turtles. ( I just checked my book collection--Mary Alice Monroe is the author who writes a lot about sea turtles--mostly fiction).

Sharon, I'd love to go to New Zealand, too.  It's been on my bucket list for a long time, but I guess my traveling days (at least alone) are gone forever.  My sons have been wonderful to help me out, but they sure are fussy about what I can and cannot do!

Mary, I'm keeping my fingers crossed and sending thoughts/prayers for wonderful results of your surgery.  I'm glad Kate will be staying with you through the surgery and perhaps a few more days.  Keep us posted.

Happy Saturday, Every Buddy.
Sue

SharonE

Mary, I will hold you in my prayers on Wed.  It is so good that your daughter is coming to stay with you again  and help out.  Will you be able to walk at all for a while?  Yes, it is sad that I can't travel to NZ with John, but I'm just not up to it.  As to Tallahassee, I'm going to visit my sil who just turned 87. Three of her kids live there too, but I just felt it was time for me to go see her again. It's been about 3 yrs since I was there.  My brother passed about 11 yrs ago, but I've always thought of Marilyn as an older sister.

Sue, I know you get frustrated with the restrictions, especially from the boys, but that just meas they love you.  I do wish your leg brace could come off and that you could drive again.

We set a temp record yesterday of 82. Previous record was 76!  Today it's supposed to be a high of 44! What a change.  This area is in a basin that gets all the different weather fronts and is in constant change. Tomorrow it is to be back in the 60's and later in the week, the 70's.  Crazy.  It's supposed to rain some today, but isn't too overcast yet.

I hope Jane is feeling better today and has nice weather.  Darlene, too.

Marilyn, you've been missing a while. Check in.  Ginny Ann, we're always missing you!

Hi to everyone else I haven't mentioned.  Sharon

SCFSue

Good afternoon, Buddies.  Olyne picked me up for Sunday School and Church this morning.  At the church service we had communion as this is the first Sunday in Lent.  Our female pastor was preaching again this morning.  Her husband is staying with his father for a few days as his father has donated one of his kidneys to a friend who needed it.   I'm guessing that his father is at least as old as I am or maybe older  (I'll be 81 on March 15--Beware the ides of March!).  I'm expecting to live until at least my mid-90's unless something drastic happens.  My female relatives (grandmother lived to be 93 and 2 of her sisters-in-law to be 98!  But unfortunately they were senile by then).

I'm planning to read until the basket ball game I want to watch comes on at 4:00.  We're playing up at Alabama and their women beat us when they played down here.  I'm sure their arena will be packed today!

Have a nice afternoon, Buddies.

Hi everyone..been sick..in bed most of last 12 days with the flu...terrible stuff..still trying to get my energy and appetite back...hope all are well Darlene

maryz

Darlene, so sorry to hear you got attacked by the flu.  It is awful, I know.  But I'm glad you're on the mend.  You'll probably take a couple of weeks to regain your strength, so don't push too hard.  Hugs!

Sue, good luck to your Ladies.

Really quiet weekend here.  At least we've had sunshine all day today.  More clouds and rain for the next few days after this.

Happy President's Day to all the Buddies.

Darlene....glad you’re slowly rwcovering.

Sharon....my Part D has a $400.00 deductible this year, so the high $ on Evista.  It’s  BC/BS.  Ray doesn’t have a deductible... but his premiums are twice what mine are. They get you one way or another.

Marilyn....glad you got K to go somewhere new to eat.

Sue....the military plan is sure a good one.

Mary...glad your daughter can come for your surgery.
Hot day again here...we went up to the Sea Turtle Center today.  They’ve done a beautiful job with the new bldg.

The bug that I have had on & off since the fall got me admitted to the hospital 3:30 a.m. on Valentines Day !   I just got home this evening after 5 days in the hospital ! I have pneumonia & am still recovering .  The hospital food was terrible , good thing I didn't feel like eating for 2 days . Some of the nurses agreed , I mentioned the kitchen needed someone to help them improve the cooking . They agreed !

maryz

alpiner - what a mess -to have to spend that time in the hospital.  I'm so glad to hear you're finally on the mend.  Keep taking it easy for a while longer.

Hey, Buddies - let's stay well out there'!

Nice day here today...bridge this afternoon and a party tonight at a local place.

Jane

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I've showered/dressed and am ready to go to a luncheon at church--Presbyterian Community ministry.  It's a charity/member based organization that provides loans to people needing help and has a repayment program for those who can afford small payments, but some will never be able to repay.  I need to call Ethel who lives near me and must pass by on her way to church.

Jane, enjoy your bridge afternoon and the party.  Let us know how it goes!

Mary, I'm trying my best to stay well.  I've had the flu shot as well as a pneumonia booster so feel pretty good about that.  I don't go many places where people are except for church on Sunday and a weekly lunch date and Kroger run with Tim.  Kroger supplies hand sanitizers for the buggies and our hands, and we try to get in and out of there in a hurry!

Alpiner, I am so sorry about your bout with pneumonia and recent stay in the hospital.  Also about the hospital food--I have had a similar experience with that!  Our hospital had improved when I was in there for heart surgery last summer--the new chef is a member of our church.  Take care of yourself and let Hubby do what needs to be done until you recover your strength.

Jane, not every military retiree paid into the Tri-Care for Life program, but I'd already had BC and although Bob had not yet had surgery for his cancer, he decided it was a wise decision--and am I ever glad that he did.  I still have certain co-pays, but the major costs are paid by that program.  Lots of my friends didn't do that for their families and I'm pretty sure they wish they had now!

Marilyn, my mouth is watering after reading the menu for your birthday lunch!  Good for Keith for treating you to the feast.  We don't have a restaurant here that specializes in German food--Columbus, Georgia, which is about 45-50 minutes from here used to have a great one, but it seems to have closed its doors now.  And a belated Happy Birthday to you!

Mary, our Lady Tigers played a great first half, but fell behind in the second and we lost.  Sad to watch.  We only have one more home game and I think that's all for the year.  I doubt we'll get far in the tournament.  We have some good players, but most are young and learning, so it will take a while.

Darlene, I'm so sorry about your bout with the flu.  I hope/pray that you'll recover soon.  I can't remember, but do you have any of your children nearby?  Take it easy and slow down as best you can.  (HUGS!!! and Prayers for your recovery).

I need to call Ethel to confirm our time for going to the luncheon.  Also expecting Tim to stop by to see if I survived the weekend!  Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Sue

SharonE

Darlene, I'm so sorry to hear that you've had the flu. I'm glad you are on the mend now.  Take it easy.

Alpiner, you sure didn't need pneumonia on top of everything else. Glad you're home and recovering. Take care of yourself.  I can't stand hospital food either.

Marilyn, sounds like you've been wining and dining!  Congratulations.  I'm not a fan of german food, but it's still nice to get out.

Jane, I only pay $15 a month for my MC D.  It is through Cigna.  I have no deductible either. However, I do pay a higher price on Evista. Most of my other meds are lower tier generics and I don't have to pay more than a few dollars for them. Enjoy your bridge. Hope you get good cards.

It's to be 60 and rainy here today. Yuck. I'm trying to stay out of crowds too.  I plan to finish up my taxes today and get them sent.  Hi to all.  Sharon

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies. It's dark and looks like rain, but I've already been out for my morning walk and glad to be back inside.  I need to do a load of laundry but not much else on my schedule for today.  I'm going to start my last library book after lunch and will probably finish it today.  It is fiction but the main character is Oscar Wilde.  The title is "Oscar Wilde and a Death of No Importance".  It looks like a short read, so should finish it before I go to bed this evening.

Tim had already sent my tax stuff to my accountant, but I received still another one yesterday, so he took it home and also sent it to Sherrill.  After she completes them, she sends me quarterly forms for payments--Ugh, but it's better than paying it all at once.  She'll probably wait until closer to April to file.

Sharon, you didn't mention how you are feeling, but I hope much better today.

Hi to Every Buddy--I hope all have a good day.
Sue

jane

The party last night was fine...good food and a band.

Ray’s off golfing, and housekeeping has come and exchanged our towels.

Laundry day ...again.  With a very limited number of clothes, it seems as if I am always doing laundry!

I also need to do so,e bookkeeping.

Jane

SharonE

Sue, other than the usual aches & pains, I'm fine.  I have the taxes all done except for 2 items that I'm waiting for. Then I can send them to the accountant.  It is gloomy and overcast here. But the temp is to be 72!!  The landscapers are puttinng down mulch today.  That's part of the HOA included items.

Jane, know what you mean about laundry. Seems like I'm always doing it.  If the spirit moves me, I may do a load today, but it's not urgent.

I just finished typing and sending off the church articles to the newspapers.  It's surprising how many people have mentioned seeing them when they didn't even know I was the one sending them in.

I have a book that I may finish this afternoon. It is another Nora Roberts, but I don't recommend it. It's called, YEAR ONE, and refers to the first year of a world plague. Involves black magic too.  Not my kind of book.

Brian called Sunday and our family get together for the year will be at his house over the Memorial Day Weekend.  We had discussed traveling somewhere exciting, but the grandkids can't afford it and I want to see them and the new great grand baby too.

Not much else going on here.  Hope you all are well and having a good day.  Sharon

Cottoncandy

I finally feel better today..energy slowly coming back..Sue..yes I have family here..son and wife..my brother..nieces...and many friends..they have kept me supplied with food and all kinds juice and drinks...thx for asking...Hi to those looking in Darlene

SCFSue

Darlene, I'm glad you've had some help while you have been ill.  It sure feels good to have some family near by.

Jane, your party sounds nice.  What is the weather like back home?  Our weather man said it was 80 today (in Montgomery) but I think it was about 75 here.  I hope all the snow will be gone when you and Ray get home.

Sharon, does Brian's family live in the same house they had when he was stationed in Missouri?  I know one of your grandsons is attending Missouri U.  I'm guessing they really liked living there.

Good night, Every Buddy.  I'm not off to bed yet, I've started watching one of the "Red" movies--stupid, but enjoyable.

Sue

Beautiful sunshine this morning and 77 degrees .  What a change from what we
have been having.  If I remember correctly Mary Z. was to have here foot surgery
today. I hope that all is going WELL FOR HER.

Joy....I think you’re right that today is Mary’s surgery.  Good thoughts going her way.

Sharon...weather at home is 16 an email from a friend said.   They’d had warming and rain so the snow was slowly melting.  SIL in Chicago said their snow was all gone, too.  It’s a nice day here...had the last Wed. Coffee and golf guys and wives coming over at 4:30 and the. We’re all doing out for dinner.  It’s “farewell” time...to orrow meeting another couple for lunch and another for dinner, I think.

This weekend will be about gathering up things and using up what’s in the fridge and freezer.
