Jane.  Take your time getting home. Still cold and so much rain. Lots of areas flooded. Going to be a few day before the rain stops.
It is amazing how fast the move the snow out of Chicago. My Friend up there last week end and it was 2 ft deep in places. Now all gone. My library had it piled on the parking lot at the back cutting of 4 meters for a week.

Hope Mary gets home fast. Bet she will so happy to have has the taken care of. Will walk better. She likes to vacation

JeanneP

Marilyn

Jane, it sure doesn't seem like it is time for you to make the trip home already.

Sending prayers for Mary. Hope ll is well  with her surgery

TRhis afternoon I am taking Keith back to the dermatologist to have his stitches removed. the surgery won't be until after the pathology repert comes back but the Dr. and myself are sure it is Basal Cell carcinoma.

JeanneP

If so I hope they caught it. Lots they can do now...

I have an appt. tomorrow to see my primary care doctor . When I called to make the appt. I was told "Mary" would see me . I think Mary is his nurse , hope I get to actually see the doctor too .
Last night I finally got to sleep in our bed but all propped up .  We are having a cold spell & thought the furnace wasn't working , so we piled on extra blankets . Son thought to look at the power box outside & found a switch was flipped .

maryz

I'm home and, after last night, not having too much pain.  Kate is a terrific care-giver.  We got the the hospital at 9 am for my 11:30 scheduled surgery.  Surgery wound up being about 3:30, and we didn't get home until about 8:30pm.  I've got a walking cast on the left foot, and a pressure bandage on the right.  I managed to get in the house with my walker.  It's a struggle and a challenge, but it'll get better. The worst of the anesthesia has worn off, so that's a blessing.  I see the doc in two weeks, and I guess will get dressings changed then.

Marilyn, good to hear from you.  I hope all goes well with Keith's treatment.

alpiner, I hope your visit goes well.  I have no problems with seeing the Physician's Assistant. They're usually very good listeners and with more time.  Good luck, in any case.

jane, I know you hate the thought of heading back to those temperatures, but I hope they won't last too much longer.  Safe travels in any case.  My other friends down there will be heading back about the first week in April.  They have to wait for the repairs to finish on their RV.

Jeanne, I hope I'll be walking better eventually - but not for a while.

Sharon, Sue, and Joy - thanks for the good wishes.

Good morning, Buddies.  I've been out for a walk with a long sleeved t-shirt on and it's pretty warm today.  I'm going out again before noon to visit my back yard neighbor, Dr. Cadenhead.  His daughter-in-law sent me an e-mail telling me he's pretty depressed.  He was my favorite of all professors both at USC and AU.  I haven't been over there much since his wife died a year or so ago.

Marilyn, I hope the news you get about Keith's biopsy is a good one, but if not, I'll pray it is early enough for complete healing.  Take care of yourself, too, as you will need your strength if he has to go to treatments.

Jeanne, I'm glad your snow is gone--BUT is it possible you might get some more?  This year has been crazy weather wise!

Alpiner, I hope your appointment goes well today.  Let us know how it goes.  Good luck!

Mary, I know it must be a Royal pain in the Rear to have a cast on one foot and a pressure bandage on the other.  You have my sympathy and good thoughts for a quick recovery.  How long will Kate be with you?  I, also, don't mind seeing a Physician's assistant, especially the Cardiologist's assistant who is also a cardiologist.  The last time I had a check up with him, he was in emergency surgery and had to see her and things went very well.

Jane, have a safe trip and let us know when you arrive home.  I hope the weather will be good for you.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy!  And GINNYANN, please check in!
Sue

Marilyn..glad it’s not melanoma.  As my derm says...melanoma is the one that can kill you.

The “farewell” meal thing continues.  Today is a lunch in about a half hour...and neither of us is hungry, so it may be a shared appetizer for us.

Tonight we're supposed to go for ribs with another group.

Much cooler today so need a cardigan for thw restaurant.. .often too cold for me.

Jane

JeanneP

Jane.  Safe drive home. Hope all is well at the house. Has you area had lots of flooding like our part of Illinois has. Our roads and streets are so torn up. Don't know if just fill the holes with tar and rock will help this year.
Not really been a great weather year for you in Texas this visit, has it.  But you did at least get away from the cold here.

Mary. That was a long day but glad you didn't have to stay overnight. I must have missed you saying what it was you were having done. Nothing worse than hobbling around on those boots, but sure do help. With both feet then you will not be driving for awhile.  Did you have  summer trip planned?
All yesterday we were without water from early in the morning and did not come back on until 10pm last night. All the underground drains and water lines are getting old around here now. No idea what was wrong but was the whole area. Glad it wasn't as freezing as it was few weeks ago. Pipes may have frozen in the house water lines. I do have heat tapes on them all and down 4 ft into ground. Makes you realize what it must be like for those people that loose the Electric , Water etc.  Like Puerto Rico now. Some people not had it for 4 months. I do tend to forget that I went through it all for years in the UK during the war. No electric or water lines. Freezing weather.  couldn't do it now. Be on the first plane out...
JeanneP

SharonE

Mary, I'm so glad your surgery is behind you and hope recovery will soon be there too. How long does the Dr estimate for complete healing?  It sounds like you need to borrow or rent a wheelchair for a while to go to meals, etc.  Maybe you have that already covered.  Bless Kate for taking such good care of you.  Sending a cyber hug and lots of good wishes.

Jane, enjoy your farewell parties. Have you gotten your stuff packed yet?  What day do you leave? The 28th is 6 days away.  Hope you have an easy dry drive.

Marilyn, John has had a couple basal cell carcinomas removed with no problem.  He sees his dermatologisst every 3-6 months because he has such fair English skin and spent a lot of time outside in his youth, before sun-screens came out.  Anyway, I'm glad it's not melanoma and that they are testing it.

Jeanne, I don't know how any of the people in Europe survived the War ad post War eras. I remember our class filling boxes of basics for children in England, but we didn't begin to understand what you were going through.

Sue, sounds like you are enjoying the warm springy weather too.  Late yesterday afternoon, I went out and took pictures of my beautiful cherry trees--really nice this year. Then I saw our neighbors on their patio, so I went over and chatted and we listened to all the birds and signs of spring.  We hit 80 yesterday and probably today too, both records.

Hi to everyone.  Ginny, where are you?  Joy, I'm glad your weather is good again.  Sharon

SharonE

I forgot to add that I went to the grocery this morning and got home just long enough to eat a bite and then had to leave to get my hair cut.  I didn't have her set it, so I need to go do that since it has air-dried now.

I also stopped at the Physical Therapy clinic in the same strip to have them check how my leg is coming. The PA never measured the angle or anything.  The therapist measured the extension angle, which is what I'm having problems with. I still have -5, so she told me to go buy a 10 lb leg weight to lay on top of my knee when I have it extended on the couch, etc.  I thought sure I had made some progress with all the exercises I've done.  What a pain.  Sharon

jane

Jeanne....yes, some street flooding at home as the rain melts the snow...but they were to have more snow today. No, the weather hasn't been perfect....but when it's cold and awful up north, there's a bit of that cold here...and we still enjoy being here.

Sharon...we haven't started packing yet...planning out the trip and trying to find motels.  Ray will start calling tomorrow for reservations.  We like to know we have a room and try to even out the distances each day.  It's hard going across some states like OK and KS with miles and miles and not a lot of towns.  It's sometimes tricky at this time of year with high school basketball tournaments in various places, so the reservations saves some stress.

We plan to do the last minute packing, eat breakfast out and get a few hundred miles in on Wed. Feb. 28.  Some people do 800-1000 miles a day.  Not. Us.  We just can't do that and we find that unsafe.

Once we're home it's the dreaded going through the mail and getting the tax stuff ready.  UGH.

Husband & son discovered the oxygen concentrator isn't refilling the portable oxygen tank I would take with me when leaving the house . The supplier has been called & said someone would come here , this was yesterday .  I woke this morning & the oxygen tube had come off my nose during the night but dr. said I still need to use it .

maryz

Well, that's scary, alpiner!  I certainly hope all that's gets cleared up quickly.

Good morning, Buddies.  I'm up, had breakfast, showered and dressed for lunch with Tim.  He'll be here about 11:00, I think.  I've had one phone call about bridge next week and one with Bonney to confirm an outing to Auburn High School.  We've been invited to talk to students and perhaps parents and faculty about our husbands' experiences in the Vietnam War.  I thought it was going to be sometime next week, but it's a month away in the latter part of March.

Jane, I guess you've been watching the weather up north.  I hope you don't run into a late snow storm on the way home.  It sounds like you've had a fun and busy time down south.  I envy you the winter vacation.

Ouch, Sharon.  The new weight thing sounds like a royal pain!  I know you'll be glad when all this rehab stuff is past you.

Mary, I hope your leg(s?) are feeling better today.  How long will Kate be able to stay with you?

We'll go to lunch and then to Kroger for my weekly grocery shopping and maybe stop at the library to drop off this week's books and get some more.  I had to reread 2 of my favorites in my own collection as the ones I had last week were fast reads.

Alpiner, I hope the oxygen supplier has arrived and you are good to go with it.  What a pain to have it malfunction as that must be very frightening.  Keep us posted.

Jeanne, yuck on the loss of water.  What a pain it is when utilities malfunction.  I hope they have it fixed now and all will be well.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.  GINNYANN!  CHECK IN PLEASE!
Sue

SharonE

Good morning, Gals.  Jane, it sounds like you have things well planned out.  I agree with you about making reservations ahead.  You're especially right with OK & KS.  There are so many miles between towns.

Alpiner, I second what others have said.  It must be very frightening if you have trouble breathing and the nebulizer doesn't work. If they don't get there asap, contact your doctor or the hospital.

Sue, I think you keept the library in busy!  :)  I dropped off one book, and started another I had on hand from our lake house free exchange. I think I have about 4 or 5 on hand.  I spend more time on the computer and watching TV, I think than you do.

I just found out that one of my pre-op visits requires dialating and John has a local tournament commitment that day.  Fortunately, one of my friends is free that day and is willing to drive me.

Mary, how are you doing?  Are you able to sleep?  I presume they told you to elevate your feet  as much as possible.

Wonderful weather here--about 80 degrees for the past 3 days. Set major records.  I'm waiting for the boom to fall.  Sharon

alpiner1

SharonE  The nebulizer works fine , its the oxygen concentrator that is malfunctioning . The nebulizer is a breathing treatment compressor . There will be someone out today between 12:00p.m. & 4:00p.m.

SharonE

Alpiner, glad that they are scheduled to come out.  I know you will be relieved.  Sharon

maryz

Sharon, I've slept pretty well - at least the first half of the night.  They gave me two huge foam wedges to put under my feet.  I've spent most of the rest of the time in the recliner, with it all the way up and pillows under my feet.  Not above my heart, but pretty close to it.  The right ankle (the one I can see) has less swelling that it has had before surgery for some time.  I'm still taking pain meds, but not so much that I'm dopey (or at least any more than usual).  Don't know when Kate will be leaving, but probably after the weekend.  I've made arrangements for the transport here to take me for my first followup appointment on 8 March.  If the right foot is okay and I'm off the pain Rx, I should be able to drive after that.  We shall see.  That foot hasn't hurt at all, so far.

All is well , the man came out & replaced the  compressor & left 2 tanks I can use when we leave the house .

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  This will be a quickie as I am going to my neighbor's house shortly.  Dr. Cadenhead was my favorite professor when I was getting my Master's degree from AU.  He has not been well recently and now has neuropathy.  His wife died 2 years ago and I used to visit them regularly, but had the fall shortly after she died and haven't visited more than a time or two.  His DIL is a friend and told me recently that he is not driving now so I'm taking him some mini cupcakes I bought at Kroger.

Not much else going on here today.  We have lovely sunshine and are expecting warm weather all day, but maybe rain tomorrow.

Tim and I had a good outing yesterday, ate lunch at Brick Oven Pizza, then he took me to the library to get books for the weekend and hopefully into next week, then to a quickie trip to Kroger.  He's going to come over tomorrow after church to go to the last women's home basketball game with me.  I have an extra ticket besides my usual 2 and wanted Kris to go with us, but she and Ard had other plans.

Have a nice day, Buddies.
Sue

SharonE

Mary, I am so glad that you haven't had much pain. Between the foam and the pillows, you seem to be doing everything right.  I'm sure you are enjoying Kate being there and will hate to see her leave.  How will you get to the dining room after she leaves?  It's good that you will be able to drive soon.  How long will it take for the amputations to heal?  It's too bad you can't get out on the patio in this lovely weather.

Alpiner, Yea for getting everything running again and even backups!

Sue, I hope you have a nice visit with your former professor. I'm sure he will appreciate your visit.  I hope you found some good books at the library  yesterday.  Have fun at the game. Hope your girls win.  IU lost by 2 pts in OT last night!  John was not happy, but this is a building year for the team with a new coach and all, so we won't be going to the NCAA.  Butler might be though and Purdue definitely will..

John did some yard work this morning and I'm going to do a couple loads of laundry.  If I get the info in the mail from the pharmacy, I can finish the tax preparation to send in.  Sharon

maryz

Sharon, the Terrace will deliver meals.  It's free with a nurse's order (which I think I should be able to get) or for a small charger otherwise.  I plan to do that.  I'm not getting out on the deck, but we do have the sliding glass door open.  We had a little shower this afternoon, and that first smell of rain was SOOOO sweet. We're supposed to get the storm line sometime after midnight tonight.

alpiner, glad you got the oxygen thing straightened out.  That was scary.

Sue, I know you had not being able to drive yourself, but it certainly hasn't slowed you down much.

It was great to see the US men win the good medal in curling at the Olympics today.  And it'll be fun to see the closing ceremony tomorrow.  But it'll be good to get the TV back to "normal" again.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

jane

Alpiner...hurrah on getting the oxygen concentrator working again.

Sue...great Tim is going with you to the b game today.

Mary...hurrah on less pain today.

Sharon....sounds as if spring is finding you.

Jeanne....hope it's warming up for you, too.

It's a nice, warm day here and we're still in the "gathering up" process.  Fri. night I talked to a fellow from Dubuque who told me they always go around Fort Worth and not through...it's a mess with all the construction of those high overpasses for all the interstates that come in there.  He told me what they did, and I found that on  my TX map and today he emailed me the specific directions.  It'll be a bit further....but not if there's any construction tie up...which there always is.  Longer but safer, I think, so that's what we'll do.  As I mentioned, we have our reservations for 3 nights already in place, so it doesn't matter if we're a bit later getting to the motel...we know we have a place.

It looks as if the Olympics is winding up.  I don't know who this woman is who's doing the Olympics...we didn't see much of the events...some cross-country skiing, some downhill and slalom and some short track ice events....and curling, of course!! :2funny:

jane

SharonE

Jane, good to get some good directions to avoid construction!  Hope everything goes smoothly for you.

I'm subbing in another bridge club this afternoon.  Pain clinic appt tomorrow and my regular bridge Wed.  That's pretty much my week.

It's to be in the low 60's all week with a chance of rain most days. Today is definite rain. We had some  early morning and supposed to have more this afternoon.  I just hope it doesn't take all the blossoms off of the trees.

Mary, that's good that they will deliver your meals. I hadn't thought of that.  Hope your feet are healing more each day.  Sharon

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I woke up to a dark and dreary morning with a light rain.  My trash men had been here--at least the truck which picks up plastics and paper and I still need to go out and get the large trash barrel which is bagged garbage.  I think they've picked it up now.

This will be a busy week.  I have my once a month bridge tomorrow at noon at Azalea Place and Molly Maids will be here early so I'll need to shower tonight.  I prefer to shower in the morning, but with them here, it's not so easy.  They start cleaning in my bedroom and bathroom and I wait until they are finished cleaning everything.  On Wednesday, Terri is picking me up for bridge at Merilin's and Bonney will host the Thursday bridge at 12:30 at her house.  This is the first time all 3 have occurred in the same week.

I've read the paper and completed this morning's crossword puzzle and will probably read for a while.  I'm reading a WWII novel by Fannie Flagg--The All Girl's Filling Station--It's pretty interesting.  The father is ill and his daughters are running the filling station.

I haven't watched the Olympics very much--all that snow reminds me of the shoveling I had to do in Brunswick when the boys were just toddlers!

Our Lady Tigers won the game yesterday and afterwards the Senior's parents were in attendance and given plaques with their daughters names.  We're losing the twins and 2 more players, but our young ones are playing very well.  I think we'll have a good team next year.

Have a good day, Buddies.
Sue

alpiner1

I went to church yesterday along with oxygen tank . After church hubby discovered he didn't have the oxygen turned on !  I did okay though .

jane

Alpiner....good to know you did fine without the oxygen, even though you didn't know you weren't getting it.

We have a lovely day and Ray's gone for a last swim.

We took two boxes to the PO and mailed those home.  The car seems to shrink down here and it seems easier to mail stuff home.   ;D

We'll get the rest of the stuff here packed into the car tomorrow, except for each of our suitcases, and those will go in Wed. morning, we'll check out and turn in our keys and go for breakfast and then head to our  first stop on the way home.

jane

Safe travels Jane...seems you just got there...we are having nice weather..going to wait a few more days to resume walking after my bout with the flu..Hi Sue Sharon..Mary and those I missed...Darlene

SharonE

Hi Gals, I just got back from bridge. I had horrible cards and didn't play very well either, so I got the booby prize.  Nice group though.

Sue, you are really going to be bridged out this week.  I play Wed too.

Jane, sounds like you have everything ready to go. Have a nice last day and then a safe drive home.

Darlene, that sounds wise to skip your walks for a while till you're stronger.

Hi to Mary and Marilyn and hopefully Ginny Ann!  Sharon
