A late good morning, Buddies.  My cleaning ladies were late this morning and have just left.  They are once again training a new girl--they do this fairly often as they've been with this cleaning service for some time.  So I'm neat and clean for 2 more weeks, thank goodness.  This has been a life saver for me.

I am off to lunch and bridge at Azalea Place shortly.  I am also playing bridge on Wednesday with my regular Wednesday group and at Bonney's on Thursday as she is the first hostess for March--I can believe it's almost March!  We traded and I'll have to have the Thursday bridge on March 15--my 81st birthday.  She has a DAR meeting she must attend.

I hope all are well and happy this morning.  Alpiner, I'm glad you did OK with your oxygen turned off.  Jane, it sounds as if you're almost ready to hit the road.  Safe driving and good weather wishes from here in Auburn.  Darlene, I'm glad you're finally recovering from the flu.  Take it easy until you're completely well.  Sharon, I'd rather get the booby prize than no prize--although I'm not real fond of the booby prize!

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Marilyn

Carol thank you for asking about Roger. He is still battling the cancer, They changed his medication because instead of the former one shrinking his tumors they grew. He is on Oral meds  to cause the immune system to   attack the cancer. the meds  made him a type 2 diabetic so he is now on metformin as well. He is still working and taking time off to go to his Dr appointments  in San Francisco and when he is in bad shape to the hospital locally. He does have a local Dr  who gives him his meds.

maryz

Marilyn, sorry that Roger is in this fight.  But we send lots of hugs and good thoughts to you and yours.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Marilyn, I'm so sorry that Roger is having to undergo such extensive treatments. I hope they are successful ad that he will soon be cancer free.  Such a heart-wringing experience to have a child fighting this awful disease.  My Melanie seems to have been one of the lucky ones, but I still hold my breath when she has to have another CT scan. At least she only has to have them every 6 months now.  Mary is experiencing the same thing too.  It's bad enough when the parents have it, but the kids shouldn't have too!!  Prayers going out for him and all of his family including you.  Mary, for you and your family as well.

I had a recheck at the pain dr today. Totally unneeded though. Then I went to WalMart to get some groceries for our Helping Hands drive for the Second Harvest.  I also had to get a 10 lb ankle weight to put on my knee to press it more straight.

Tomorrow, I have my regular bridge group. We meet at the golf club house, so no one needs to worry about having it aat their house. We do have a hostess though who brings a dessert. We play at 9:30 and then have lunch there.  I sure hope I have better cards and play better tomorrow.

Mary, I hope you are getting along okay and without much pain.  Is Kate  still there?

Jane, "Happy Trails" tomorrow.

Darlene, I hope you are getting stronger now.  Sharon

maryz

Sharon, I'm doing fine.  Kate went home this morning.  I'm basically taking no pain medicine (just acetaminophen).  I think I'm going to make arrangements with one of the sitters here to come for an hour or so every couple of days to help me bathe and wash my hair.  Otherwise, I'm managing - awkwardly and slowly - but getting there.

Margaret has finished her radiation treatments.  She says she's had no problems with it.  She'll get a CT scan sometime soon, and is to follow up with the oncologist.  All good news to my ears.  You're right - it's tough when it's your children.

We had a beautiful day today.  Supposed to have two days of heavy rains coming up, and flood watches are already posted.

SharonE

Mary, it sounds like it's difficult maneuvering.  I'm glad they have people who can come in and help you. Hurray for Margaret.  I had no problems except fatigue with radiation, but since I had had several months of chemo preceding it, I suspect it was only natural. I'm glad she didn't.  Take care of yourself.  Sharon

alpiner1

I'm still on oxygen , hubby doesn't think I should drive yet & he will drive me to crochet class tomorrow .  It is through the public school system & they are paid classes .  There were 8 classes & I have missed 2 & tomorrow 's class is the last for this term .
I will probably have a chest x ray next week as a comparison & hope I can go off the oxygen . I wake up usually with the oxygen off my face & don't seem to have a breathing problem .

Azalea Place has yet another group in the kitchen and the food is still sub par.  However, the new server in the guest dining room was gracious and helpful, so that was nice.  I had good cards and won first prize today--$3!  I'm pretty happy about this!

I've been watching TV this evening and now getting ready to go to bed and read.  I have a new Michael Connelly detective/mystery Tammy brought to me, so will start reading it.  I can't stay up too late tonight, though as I have my Wednesday bridge group tomorrow at 1:00.  Terri will pick me up about 12:45.  We're going out to Merilin's house.

Sleep well, Buddies.
Sue

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I've washed, folded, and put away the sheets from my bed and have another load of wash almost ready for the dryer.  I hope to get them dry and folded before Terri comes to take me to bridge at Merilin's.  And we have Thursday bridge tomorrow at Bonney's.  It is really my turn, but she has something (DAR I think) to do on the 15th, so I agreed to take it then.  I'll have played bridge 3 times this week after tomorrow!  Since tomorrow is March 1st, the others were all in February.

Not much else going on here.  I've finished all the library books I got at the library last Friday, so have started on a Susan Elizabeth Phillips favorite and will finish it this evening.  I hope all are well and will have a good day today.  Jane, good luck with the trip prep!

Well the rain stopped and we finely got 2 nice sunny day of 60 deg. Today is in the 50s but no sun and saying rain again. But nice weekend coming.
I was planning a trip to Texas end of March but changed my mind. Got tired of checking Airlines and not finding  any that would make in easy for me. To much waiting for plane in Chicago. get there with 5 hours to wait to connect. Same with Indy but that goes into Atlanta. Use to like that airport but now crazy.I think that the airlines not putting as many flights on Maybe in Spring they will get better. Hate flying anymore. I drove for years and enjoyed that better.
Only thing for me today is Eye Doctor 6 month appointment at 3.40pm.
Need to get ink for my printer . I just love this Dell that just does black. Dell out of business now but the ink can still be ordered. $69 though. I did look at new printers. Prices not to bad but most are notm just black. Now they are putting the price of the ink refills on the price ticket. On some of them the new ink refill will cost $5 - $8 more than the new printer. So crazy. Everything just throw away items now.
Safe trip back Jane.

Hi Gals, I just got back from bridge a while ago. Have finished my tax preparations after finally receiving the RX summary of John's drugs--over $2000! But he is now getting his expesive glaucoma drops from a Canadian pharmacy.  He will save almost $2,000 this year!!  If anyone wants info on it, let me know and I will email it to you.  They are a reputable pharmacy.

Melanie called just as I finished the taxes and of course we talked for about an hour!  She's enjoying life in FL.

Jeanne, I'm glad your weather has improved. We're 55 and rainy today. Yuck.  Hope you can find a decent flight to TX.  Have you tried going through St. Louis?

I hope Jane and Ray are having a good trip and no problems.

Sue, we both have played a lot of bridge this week.  I didn't place today, but at least I was i the middle, not like Monday!  Congrats o first place.

Alpiner, hope you can ditch the oxygen soon.  Enjoy your crochet class.

Hi to Mary & Darlene & Marilyn & to whoever else pops in.  Sharon

Marilyn

Hi everyone, I thought I deleted that post about Roger, I put it on a different site. Oh well. However Roger will never be  cancer free. He has  2-3 tumors in his ling, 10 on his pancreas and 2 on his liver. In the beginning 4-5 years agot they gave him 2-20 years of life if all went well with his chemo.

I am going to be teaching Tai Chi at the senior housing facility two days a week starting next week. I am looking forward to that.

JeanneP

My Computer screen a little bleary at the Moment. It was 4pm when the eye doctor got to me and so the drops have yet to dry up.  All thing fine.I had been worried about my eyes seems to be dryer than usual. But he says just that the house and furnace on all the time making them tear up. All well no Glaucoma or the Machieler Degeneration or what ever that serious thing is.  To just put the tear drop in 2 times a day.
Back in a year.
Was dark and raining on the way back home and so drove back the country road.  I just never do what they say and take a driver.
Sharon.  I will only fly now if I can start out in Champaign. No line connects to St. Louis.  Just Dallas and Chicago. And Detroit to some places

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I have a load of wash in and have just showered and dried my hair.  When it's ready, I'll put it in the dryer and go for a walk.  I didn't walk yesterday and I am sorry as I tend to just sit around and read.  I need the exercise.  Terri is picking me up at 12:15 for first Thursday bridge at Bonney's.  I agreed to swap with her as she has something (DAR, I think) on the 15th which is my birthday.

Jeanne, I miss traveling and don't think I'll be doing much of it anymore.  To catch a flight here someone must either drive me to Birmingham or Atlanta.  My sons really are opposed to me traveling alone anyway.  I've been to most of the foreign countries but I'd still love another trip to my favorite, Ireland.

Sharon, I'm shocked at the cost of John's glaucoma drops, but hurray for being able to get 'scripts from Canada and save $2,000/year!  I did place second yesterday and won 75 cents--and I'm amazed!  You didn't mention how you're feeling today--I hope that means you're feeling better.

Marilyn, that's tough news about Roger.  I'm keeping him and you in my prayers.  I hope his treatments relieve the pain.  I have a Tai Chi video which I bought when Bob was in his last 6 months of cancer--he could do a few of the easier movements while seated, but soon had no energy for even that.  I think Tai Chi is a wonderful exercise for every Senior and I ought to look for the video and start on it.

I need to put the laundry into the dryer and get out for a walk.  It's a bit cloudy and we have a chance for rain, so I hope I don't get wet!

Jane, I hope your packing up went well and you have safe travels on your trip home.

I've been busy since I got up at 8:00. Called the vet first thing to get Bunny in.  Her under chin area was clear full of saliva and she wasn't acting like she felt well, so I took her in and they drained an awful lot out of it. They did it without sedation and she was prettly good about it till she jumped and caused a laceration from the needle.  After that, they did it with hand pressure.  Next time, I think I'll have them sedate her. It took a long time.  But she seems to be better now.  I'm putting water on her f ood and adding a little canned, so shes thrilled with that.  They also put her on an antibiotic to prevent infection and possibly to dry  up that salivary gland that is leaking. They say there's a chance, but no guarrantee.  She also loves taking her pill becauase I wrap it in a small piece of thin deli turkey which she loves.  So she is happy for now.

After that, we brought her home & fed her annd I finished my grocery list. Then I went and did the shopping. John brought it all in and helped put it up.  I am feeling kind of dizzy/woozy and have no idea why.  My leg is fine and I took a pain pill before the grocery, so it's not bothering me much.  I sure hope I'm not coming down with something.

Sue, you're having a good bridge week.  I would like to do some more traveling too, but my back just isn't up to it yet if ever.

Jeanne, can understand your wanting to fly out of Champaign but I'm sure it has limited destinations.

Marilyn, my prayers are with you and Roger.

Hi to all. Sharon

maryz

Marilyn, that's so tough about your Roger.  I know how your heart must ache.

Jeanne, travel definitely isn't luxurious, or even fast, anymore.  I learned a few years ago to ask for a wheelchair.  It makes navigating those large airports manageable for those of us who have some years on us.  The airport here in Chattanooga is a lovely small one, like yours, but most flights from here go to Atlanta or Charlotte, so that has to be dealt with in any case.

Sue, glad you've been getting some good cards with all your bridge this week. Our Lady Vols play your Lady Tigers tonight in the SEC tournament.  Sorry, but I'll be cheering for our Vols.

Sharon, sorry that Bunny has been having more problems.

jane, I hope you're well on  your way by now, and having no travel problems.

Darlene, how's your weather been?  Have you gotten most of your strength back?

alpiner, good news with the oxygen.  I hope you can give it up entirely soon.

We're finally seeing some blue skies and almost-sunset sunshine.  Over the last 48 hours, we've had nothing but rain...5" in my rain gauge!  Lots of flooded roads and delayed school starts in the area.  And we're supposed to have lots of sunshine over the weekend.

I'm doing well - albeit clumsy.  I managed to get clean clothes on this morning, after a "spit" bath.  It was a LOT of exercise, but I needed that, too.  I think I'm going to be able to manage that by myself, but I think I'm going to make an appointment with the beautician here to get my hair washed.  I don't know how I'd be able to handle that.  The great gal who teaches our Silver Sneakers class came by to see me this afternoon.  And, bless her heart, she brought me a box of fried chicken from the Publix store (she thought Kate was still here, so it'll last me for a while).  I certainly did have a good supper tonight!

Good Evening, Buddies.  I just turned off the basketball tournament.  Mary, our gals played well, but your Volunteers won--I'm sorry, but am proud of our Lady Tigers for giving the Volunteers a good game.  I wasn't surprised, but still proud that we held our own for a while.

Now I have TCM's An American in Paris on, but I've seen it several times and am off to bed with a book.  I need to get up a bit early tomorrow to finish my grocery list.  Tim will be here about 10:50 for an early lunch and then grocery shopping at Kroger--and maybe a stop at the library.  I hope so because I think it might rain on Saturday when I usually walk over there.

Sleep well, Buddies.
Sue

SCFSue

Mary, congratulations on your Lady Vols win last night, but I'm not happy about it.  Our Lady Tigers played a good game and it was close, but not close enough.  I was proud of the way our gals hung in there until the end.

I stayed up late last night to re-read a new Susan Elizabeth Phillips novel.  I have almost all of her books in paper back and they read well the first and subsequent times.  When I'm out of a library book, I usually turn to them, although I have other favorite authors in paper back and reread them sometimes, too.  I'm hoping Tim has time to stop at the library before we go to Kroger.

It's cooler here today and I'm dressed and ready to go to lunch and grocery shopping with Tim.  Not much else going on here today.  It's nice and sunny, but rain is expected over the weekend.
Most of the basketball games are tournament games and I think AU men are playing tomorrow.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy!
Sue

SharonE

Mary, it sounds like you're doing well with your bathing and dressing even though it is tiring.  I 2nd your idea of having your hair done.  No way to do that yourself.  How nice of your SS teacher to bring you the fried chicken!

Sue, hope you get to the library. I don't really enjoy rereading books so usually donate them when I finish them.  John got a library card yesterday, his first since HS!! Usually, he counts on me bringing home what he wants or using the Lake House free lend, but he was bored with those and decided to go to the library. It is at the end of the shoppinng center that opens into Sun City, so very convenient.  He also mailed the tax info to our accountant, all while Bunny was being worked on.  He's not good with blood, etc.

I've had a really busy week and up early everyday, so tooday, I slept in till 9:00 and had a very relaxed breakfast, paper, and devotions before I ever dressed.  Nothing on the schedule the rest of the day. I had thought to take Bunny for a walk, but the wind is blowing so badly that I don't thiknk I will. This will be a bike day.

Darlene, I take a bunch of vitamins--the most important of which are Vit C, B complex, and Centrum Silver which is a multi-vitamin/mineral pill.  I seldom have colds or if I do they are short lived.  My dizziness yesterday I think was from not eating or drinking enough.  Gone by dinnertime.

Jeanne, I've started to request a wheelchair at airports also.  There is no charge, only a tip to the "pusher".  And they take you right through TSA checking in about 3 mins.  Lovely.

Jane, you should be about home if the weather hasn't hindered you.  We had rain off and on yesterday and aare supposed to have heavy winds today and tomorrow, but sun all weekend.

All for now.  Sharon

SCFSue

We ate lunch at our favorite Mexican restaurant.  I decided to order something different and the items were so large I couldn't eat it all.  Next time we go there, I'll order my usual, Tacos, Rice, and Beans.

Then we went to Kroger.  I had a short list and we were there before noon, so not many people there yet.  We stopped at the library on the way home and I got enough books to last at least through Monday or Tuesday.

Sharon, good for John for getting a library card.  I sure enjoy reading and would be lost without a card.

Mary, it's good to hear that each day brings some improvement.  I hope you're not in more pain than you can stand and that you have meds to relieve it.  Keep us posted.

I'm hoping Jane and Ray are having good travel weather.

Hi to all Buddies looking in.
Sue

I finally have an appt. to see my primary doctor Monday morning concerning my diagnostic chest x ray I had taken this week .  I don't care for the way the doctor has his phone calls set up .  When I call I get options on which button to click on for appts ., etc. , then have to leave my number for them tho call back . So I wait & wait for a call . I called yesterday , didn't get a call back , so this morning I called again . Finally got a call back mid morning .
I am anxious to see the doctor & hope I can be taken off the oxygen , We are planning to go on a car club tour & would like  to be free of the oxygen .

Sharon.  Now I requested a Wheel Chair a few years ago when I had to make a trip from Champaign to Houston Texas and had to be there for a appt. with a Surgeon that my family knew well. .  I had a that time a heavy thing on my leg with bars going up to my knee. Had a torn Achilles tenden that they were trying not to have to do surgery on. Was suggested I requested a chair. Was O.K until I got to Chicago and there they handed me over to a lady. No English. She got lost in the airport by going the wrong direction. So confused and so I told her to just take me to the Main person for the airport. He then informed me that it would be 5 hour wait to get me on another plane. Usually I am a very polite person but not this time. I insisted he put me on the next plane heading that way in the next 2 hours no matter which Airline it was. First class if only that available. Their cost. By the time I got him knowing I was not a happy person and would be reporting it to My families Attorney Soon as I got to Texas. Had me on a plane in one Hour. Funny coming back though as checking through in Houston they told me they had a wheel chair waiting . I laughed and told them to forget it. and they said . I bet you are the English Lady that they lost In Chicago Eh! we all heard about it.  I get back to Chicago and they also knew at the Check in counter.  By this time I was finding it really funny. But at least it got me good seats not having to be back in Coach...
I still have that leg brace, Maybe I should put it on and request a wheel chair on my next flight.  See if they still remember me...

Quick check in.  Perfect traveling weather and we went around Fort Worth on state highways and will go across top of KC, so only had Ok City to get around and it’s an easy one.  Sure hope to be home tomorrow night.

Jane

maryz

jane, glad your trip home has gone well so far.  I hope that's the case for the rest of it.

Sue, well your other ladies team won over the Lady Vols.  Dawn Staley has done a fabulous job as a coach.

alpiner, I hate being frustrated by "telephone trees".  Fortunately most of my docs' staffs are good at returning calls, and I don't usually mind leaving messages.  Fingers crossed for no more oxygen tank.

Nothing much new around here, except lovely bright sunshine and a huge full moon at night.  A couple of the gals from my swim group came to visit after class yesterday morning. It was fun to see them and get caught up on the news.  I got to play a few hands of bridge last night - sort of.  One of the gals in the original four-some here had quit playing because of macular degeneration.  She really wanted to play, though, and her eye doc gave her some cards with huge numbers on them.  So we played with those.  So we had the gal who plays well, but has trouble seeing; the gal who is about 93 and who sort of explains what she means by her bids when she makes them (so she's sure her partner understands); and the gal who never really knows what to bid, doesn't remember what her partner's bids mean (even after she's told); and me (who, of course, has my own problems  ::) ).  And I keep score.  So it almost doesn't count as "bridge", but it good to socialize with these really sweet, nice ladies.

When I got up during the night, I moved to the chair, and slept until 7!!! - really late for me.  I took a sponge bath, and sort-of washed my head/hair.  And I actually got some long pants on over the cast and shoe.  So some major exercise this morning, too.

There have been some major staff shake-ups around here lately.  The head of nursing and the assistant activities director both quit (or were fired).  The contractor who ran the beauty shop was told she had to leave (why I was trying to wash my own hair).  Who knows what else is going on.  We have a residents' council meeting next week, so I hope we'll get some information then.  And two of the more mobile (though on walkers) and independent residents are moving out.  Don't we all hate change!

Enough rambling. Is anybody going to watch the Oscars?  Seen any of the nominees?  I probably won't - and haven't seen any of them anyway. Hi to everybody I didn't mention specifically. Enjoy your weekend, Buddies.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

What an experience, Jeanne.  Good for you for standing up for yourself!  So far, I've had not problems.

Jane, so glad to hear that all is going well.  Hope you are home  safe tonight.

Bunny's puncture wound where they drained her yesterday opened up and started draining all over the place. I put her turtleneck sweater on her with a Poise pad glued inside under her chin and also a folded doubble paper towel pad on top.  She made it through the night that way. I called the vet first thing this morning and took her over there. They will try to drain it some more and then seal it better. I'm to pick her up at 11:30.  Scared us to death, but I guess it wasn't life threatening.

Laundry scheduled for today, but not much else.  Sharon

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  It's pretty chilly here this morning and I've just turned on the weather channel in hopes of getting a temperature soon.  OOPs, it's now 54!  I am wearing jeans and a sweat shirt, but will have to put a jacket and hat and gloves for my morning walk.  We're expecting mid-60's for tomorrow, so that's still chilly here for church.

Alpiner, I hope you get an all clear about the oxygen, but I have seen small portable oxygen containers people take with them on tours and they don't seem too heavy.  I hope your doctor responds today!

Jeanne, it seems you've developed quite a reputation with the airlines!  I am wearing a leg brace on my right leg due to the nerve damage in my back.  It is a pain the neck (and everywhere else) and I'd love to get rid of it.  It doesn't inhibit my walking, though, so I try to get out for a 20-30 minute walk daily.

Jane, hurray for the good traveling weather!  I hope it holds up for you although this morning's weather back has parts of Eastern Iowa looking like snow.  Take care and safe travels!

Not much else going on here today.  I've started one of the library books I checked out yesterday and will probably read as well as watch basketball games after lunch.

Mary, I was happy for my Gamecocks, but we will miss Aisja Wilson.  I'm sort of expecting her to go to the WNBA pro's, but perhaps not.  I haven't heard anything about it.  And of course your Tennesse gals beat our AU Lady Tigers the night before--but not by much.  I was proud of our gals!

Hi Sharon, you were posting while I was still writing this one.  Poor Bunny and poor you and John as I know it hurts to know your sweet doggie is not feeling well.  I hope she's feeling much better when you pick her up this morning.

I'm going to bundle up now and get my walk in.  I have 5 new library books to read, so I'm good for a few days inside.

Have a nice day, Buddies.

I have a small oxygen tank that has a shoulder carrier but it is still too heavy for me to carry .

Marilyn

hello everyone from the left coast where it has been raining for several days. There was a bit of snow yesterday that didn't stick and was gone by the time I got the car out of the garage to go to the gym.

I got my hair cut today and will try to get a selfie to post here. It is very short compared to the way I used to wear it. I am letting my gray  grow out and will no longer color my hair, so I will keep it short until it gets all grown out. My hair grows pretty fast so it should only take   about a year or  one and a half years.

Hello, Buddies.  I've been to SS and church.  Our College youth group were in charge of the program--several speakers, a choral group, and an instrumental group.  They did a good job and a number of out of town parents were here for their program.  Later on this year, our H.S. youth will also have a program, I think.  They have done this in the past.  Kathy, our female pastor, has been preaching for several Sundays, as Nick, her husband and co-pastor has been with his father who recently donated a kidney to a friend who had to have both kidneys replaced.  Our congregation has been in prayer for both Nick, his father, and the friend needing a kidney.

It's  a beautiful sunny day and I've had lunch and cleaned up the kitchen.  I'm going out now for a nice walk before I pick up the book I'm reading which will take up the rest of my afternoon.

Have a nice day, Buddies.  Jane, I hope you can find time to check in after you rest up from your trip.

Sue
