We got home late last night, and we’re both exhausted.  All that sitting does a number on my lower back and hips, so I’m limping around today and not doing much.  We’re invited down to Kathy’s for supper, so that’s good.

Weather to get nasty Mon and Tues....rain and snow.  We’ll be safely tucked inside.

Jane

SharonE

I was awake till 2:30 this morninng, but I still went to church & SS and have a load of towels in the wash. However, there may be a nap in my future.  Bunny seems better today and isn't leaking.  They sedated her yesterday and drained aother 30 cc our.  She still has a puffy spot on her right side, but at least there's no leaking.  I don't know what the future holds for her.  She's had a hard time the past 2 years and I don't know how much longer she can keep fighting one thing after another.  I just hope that this will heal and won't have to be drained any more.

John is going to Duke for another check on his eyes. He decided he would go and stay overnight so that he won't have to drive back in the dark. He also decided that it was unnecessary for me to accompany him if he's staying over. I'm glad not to have to go, but I worry about him driving alone even though he's a good driver..He has trouble seeing things on the right, but he's aware of it and compensates.

Today is our Harrison's 3rd birthday!  We're going to try to talk to him on the phone later.

I hope Jane gets home soon & lets us know.  Sue, enjoy your book.

Mary, any improvement in getting around and lessening of pain?

Good luck, Alpiner on getting rid of the oxygen.

I just read Jane's post. So glad you're home safely.  Take a tramadol and rest!

Have a blessed Sunday, everyone.  Sharon

SCFSue

I'm glad you're home safely, Jane.  Take it easy for a couple of days!

Hi to everyone, but good night.  I have an 8:50 appointment with my ENT tomorrow morning, so need to be up, breakfasted, and dressed by 8:20 for my ride.

Sleep well, Every Buddy.
Sue

jane

Winter has come roaring back here...and I’m so glad to be home.  It’s very windy here and we awoke to snow.  It’s to continue through Wed.

My back/hip is a bit better after a night with my heating pad and a tramadol.  Today is laundry and starting through all the mail.

Jane

SCFSue

Good afternoon, Buddies.  I had an appointment with my ENT this morning.  A volunteer picked me up and dropped me off there at 8:50 and I saw an audiologist for tests about 9:20 and of course he wanted me to get a hearing aid, but I didn't because I didn't feel the loss was severe enough yet.  Then after all the tests I saw my ENT and he agreed that I will know when I REALLY need a hearing aid.  My hearing tested 95% good in my right year and 88% in my left, so I don't think that's too bad yet.  I can still hear TV sound without turning it up to a louder pitch and also hear conversations spoken in a normal tone.  No problems with Sunday School or Church services, so I'm good for now.

Jane, I'm glad you and Ray made it home safely.  Take your time with the unpacking and putting things away.  I hope the snow is not too troublesome.

I hope Every Buddy is well today and having a nice day.  Take care!
Sue

JeanneP

Jane.  Yes you missed the 2 days of Summer we had about 8 days ago. Like winter here also.
Now I hear a few of you taking Tramadol.. What is it a Prescription for joint pain.?
I am starting to get pain in my hands. Specially the one where I tore nerves in Thumb.  Had to stop crochet and watch that I don't stay typing for a long time.  I just take a Advil but don't like taking to many of them. They do seem to help. Only other one a take is A Benecar once a day to keep BP steady.

Sue.  I think that is a big thing with those people in the ENT dept that take a hearing test. I use to take them about every 3 years. Way back 15 years a go. they said may be time to see about Aids soon.  Have had done twice since then and never seems to change. like you, I still seem to be able to hear quite well without aids in. So don't have the test done anymore. I do have my yearly test end of March to test WAx buildup by the Dr. and I can tell a difference after he does that. Had to have ears cleaned at least once a year for years.

I saw my primary dr. this morning & my breathing isn't good enough to go off the oxygen yet . I am to go off the oxygen for several hours to wean myself off it . My husband Norm asked if I would be able to go on a Model T tour which is coming up in a couple of weeks . The dr. said they now have a portable concentrator to take with us to have incase I need it . He wrote a prescription for it to be taken to our pharmacy . It will need to be ordered .  So happy , I will be able to get back to being active !  Also the dr. called in a prescription for a mouth rinse ,  I have Thrush from all the drugs I have been on .
My dr. has an entire wall with pictures of his patients , I was scanning while waiting to check out .  I saw a picture that made me laugh & realize what a neat dr. he is !  The dr. was sitting with one of his young patients & they both had their tongues sticking out !

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  It's pouring rain here this morning and will continue all day according to our Weather Channel.  I have a funeral I must attend which starts at 1:00.  I need to call Olyne and/or Ethel to see if they are going and if either could give me a ride.  Believe me, I hope/pray none of you will be restricted from driving--it's the pits!

I am going to shower soon and will dress later when it's closer to time to go to the funeral which starts at 1:00.  I've finished all of last week's library books, so will have to dig through my favorites for something to read until time to eat a little bit of lunch and get dressed for the funeral.

Jeanne, I agree about the ENT assessment.  My ENT told me last year he didn't think I needed to spend $6,000 for a hearing aid and after the audiologist told me yesterday I have 95% hearing in my right ear and 88% in my left and wanted to fit me for a hearing aid, I told him no thanks.  Then I saw my ENT again and told him I wasn't planning on buying one.  He just smiled and told me it's my decision.  So no hearing aid yet for me.  Eventually I'll probably get a hearing aid for just the one ear, but right now I think I'm doing well without one.

Alpiner, I'm glad your primary doctor wrote you that prescription.  It will make your trip more enjoyable.  It sounds as if he has a great sense of humor, too!  What a kick to see a picture of him and his young patient with their tongues out!

Have a nice day, Buddies.
Sue

SharonE

Jane, I'm sorry you came back to winter weather.  Not fun, but hopefully short lived.  I'm glad you were feeling better after a good night's sleep in your own bed.

Sue & Jeanne, you are lucky not to need hearing aids.  There was no question I needed them 5 yrs ago and now I'm looking at a new pair before long probably. She has adjusted the volume up as much as possible, so if the aid fails some or my ears do, I'll need new ones.  Believe me, they make a difference for me. I just hate the cost.

Alpiner, glad you got the new oxygen unit that is easy to carry.  Hope you enjoy your trip.

John just got home from Duke, fortunately before any heavy rains.  Nothing new with his eyes which is good.

I put out some Easter decorations yesterday, lots of bunnies and eggs on the dining table + a basket of eggs next to the bunny statue we keep on the edge of our front garden.  Hopefully, John will hang our Easter flag outside for me.

This morning, I've read the paper and devotions, done my PT exercises and organized all my meds in their boxes.  I hate that job.  Now I'm eating a bite of lunch and plan to relax this afternoon except for doing my 30 mins on the bike.

Hope you're all having a good day.  Sharon

maryz

jane, glad you're home safely.  I know that long drive is a chore, but y'all think it's worth it.  Did you make your reservations for next year?

alpine, you definitely have a winner with your primary doc.  I love someone with a good sense of humor.  Glad you've got the smaller oxygen thing-y.

Sue, I hope you got a ride so you could attend the funeral.  We haven't gotten rain like you said you're getting.

Sharon, glad to hear that John's eyes are stable.

It was cloudy here this morning, and we'd had some light overnight showers.  But the sun came out about 9, and it's been lovely all day.  Yesterday, the Executive Director had a last-minute meeting for residents to explain the recent staff shake-ups.  There was a bigger attendance than any other meeting I've attended here since I moved in.  And some folks were obviously hot.  Without getting into any deep specifics, she explained why each one of the let-go employees had been terminated, and was able to quiet down the gossip, etc.  For instance, the beauty-parlor-operator had been using the space in the building with no contract and no payment to the facility for the use of the space.  And had been doing so for obviously some time.  When she was told she'd have to sign a contract she refused.  Also the ED was e-mailed  video that had been taken making fun of one of the residents - not taken by the operator, but shared by her.  Both things absolutely incredible to my way of thinking.  All in all, I was impressed, and think that she is doing a good job of protecting both the residents and the facility.  Also, she's going to see that there's a new beautician by next week, and that eventually the space will be enlarged.  Well done, IMO!

I had made arrangements for our transport to take me to my doctor's appointment on Thursday.  Then Margaret called me this afternoon, and said she is going to come to take me for my appointment.  Well, okay, then.  Guess they've decided I need to be chaperoned or something - but that's okay.

Happy Tuesday, Buddies.

SCFSue

Mary, perhaps you've mentioned before that you have new management at your Assisted Living--is that why you're seeing these changes?  It sounds like the problems that Azalea Place here in Auburn, the place where I eat lunch and play bridge on the 4th Tuesday, has been having since a new company bought out the old one and has tightened the money paid to employees.  Change is not easy and I feel sorry for the people who are living there.

I watched the PBS special on Mr. Rogers this evening--and spent a good bit of time wiping away happy tears.  I loved his children's show as did our boys until they got to be about 9 or 10--then they thought they were too old for it.  He died a few years ago--his wife is still living and spoke briefly about how much he loved children and his work with them.  I'll never forget the night Saturday Night Live had a spoof of Mr. Rogers walking around in his boxers--I cried and our sons laughed at me.  I guess it was a funny skit, but it really hurt to see that.

Sleep well, Buddies.
Sue

maryz

Sue, in the 2 1/2 years I've been here, there have been a couple of changes in management, but this last one was a change in corporate ownership (the ultimate owners) and to their management.  I am seeing signs of improvement that makes me "cautiously optimistic".
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I'm just back inside from a very chilly walk and have put a load of wash into the dryer.  Not much going on, but I just realized that I'm going to host both the Wednesday bridge and Thursday bridge next week.  At least I'll only have to get the card tables out once and put them away once.  I agreed to take Bonney's Thursday bridge because she's going up to Atlanta for her daughter's birthday.

Mary, it sounds like your home's change in corporate ownership was a good one.  Ours was not so good--although the new server at our monthly luncheon was a big improvement over the previous one.  I hope she lasts--most of the newly hired seem to leave quickly!  Tim also insists on taking me to GP and heart surgeon appointments.  I have a contract with Seniors/Friends organization who take me to haircuts and other appointments.  Yesterday I had my annual with my ENT and Seniors and Friends sent a woman to transport me.  She dropped me off, left to do errands, and returned just as I was checking out.  That works for me.

I hope Jane and Ray are rested up now and getting back into the swing of things.

Have a good day, every buddy!

Mart Z:
Williamsburg (Senior Living Home where I live) has been having trouble w/dining
room servers, food menus , cleaning maids, etc. I guess they are just not paid
enough. The dining room is large (about 20 tables) and the servers are constantly being either fired and they just leave. It takes a while to train new servers so the
wait time to be served is  long.(that's new) The one now serving my table has a
lot to learn :(
JOY :'(

maryz

Joy, that's about the size of our dining room.  You're certainly right about the turnover in servers.  The good ones we have are SO good, and so patient with some of the residents...and usually SO cheerful.  Sometimes they're just overwhelmed when lots of folks all show up at the same time.  I try to learn (and remember) their names, and to be pleasant to them.  You're right, too, about low wages - plus it's just darned hard work.

I read about all these retirement centers and all the things they promise you, but I guess you can't prevent them from changing hands and from trying to cut costs.  Waitress duties require a lot of strength and stamina and at a retirement center they don't get tips like at restaurants.  I'm glad Mary's unit is improving things instead of the other way around.

My cleaning girl was here today. I feel so sorry for her. She's been married 25 yrs and just found out he has been cheating on her for 9 of them!  She had no idea and is broken hearted. She was in tears at one point and all I could do was give her a hug.

I got all my March and some of the April articles written and sent to the newspaper, so shouldn't have much more to do for a while.

Nothing much else going on here.  Sue you are lucky to have transportation service for a minimal fee.

Mary, hope you get a good report on Thursday.  Isn't it strange when our kids try to reverse roles and be the parents?

Good to see your post, Joy.

Hi to all else.  Sharon

There is NO tipping allowed here . That includes maids(housekeeping) dining rooms
servers, maintenance workers, etc.
At Christmas, there is a box for contributions for all of the above, divided equally, and
it is usually well received.

Mary....yes, we reserved our place again for next year.

Jeanne...Tramadol is the generic for Ultram. It's a pain med for moderate to severe pain.

https://www.webmd.com/drugs/2/drug-4398-5239/tramadol-oral/tramadol-oral/details

Today was a  better day....still in the 20s so plenty cold, but clear and sunny.  Ray got my battery hooked up again, so I have my "wheels" again!  I got some banking stuff taken care of and my good jewelry out of the safe deposit box.

I then went out and played bridge with the "girls."  Apparently the Golf Club is having $$ problems, too.  Two women are doing all the serving and cooking for the lunch group and then a "chef"  who's really a cook, comes in for the dinner group.  They're closed Sun-Tues, and today there were 13 women there for the lunch.  The menu is very limited.  I hope when spring comes and the course opens, that the menu improves, too.

More mail to sort through tomorrow.

Jeanne, for a nonprescription anti-inflammatory, you might try one of the OTC products.  There are a number of them - ibuprofen, Naprosyn (naproxen), Advil, store brands of the same medications, etc.  They are aspirin-based products, so you have to be sure to take them with lots of water, or with meals, because they might upset your stomach.  But they were originally developed for orthopedic-type pain.  Sometimes if one doesn't work, another one might.  I've been taking one or another of them in prescription dosages for quite some time, and they do work for me.  Ask your doctor or pharmacist.

My stand-by is Tylenol.  I take one in A.M. and one in the P.M.(at bedtime)

Marilyn

Good morning everyone. We are both doing well although my back is giving me problems, that never changes, I went to the chiropractor last Wednesday and by Friday  it had slipped put again. I have to pay the 20% that Medicare doesn't pay every time I go. They don't do billing. so i can't afford to go  more than once a month therefore, I take my Meloxicam every few days. I don't like to take it every day.

Keith went to my Tai chi class with me on Tuesday, I hope I can get him to go with me every time; he needs something to do and exercise too. On the coming Tuesday I hope more students show up. there was only one other person there and that was a good friend of mine.

This morning Freckles and I are going out to Charleston ( The Fishing community out by the ocean) with two other teams of human  and dog. we will be presenting a class to the Head Start kids on caring  for their pets and safety around loose dogs. How to approach a dog on a leash and what not do do around a loose dog. We even teach them how to pick up some fake poop using a bag.

JeanneP

Mary

Now Advil is the only one I keep on hand .i just try to not take any drug but now about once a week this problem with my hands come. When I tore my lg tendon the told me to take Tylenol and they didn't help at all .
Can't make up mind what to do today. No rain or snow but so cold. Reading. Watching a film and just being lazy may win out. Wish icould get in the mood to just start into getting heavy cleaning just can't. Going to start checking around again for a cleaning company.

Good morning, Buddies.  It's pretty chilly here this morning, but I've bundled up and taken a walk.  I received tax info and vouchers for my income tax from my accountant yesterday afternoon.  I e-mailed her that I received it and called Tim this morning to tell him.  We'll look over it again tomorrow before we go to lunch and write the first check to the IRS and also the check to Sherrill.  I owe more for last year, so that'll be the first check--and my quarterly vouchers for this year will be higher--ugh!

I need to prepare the study lesson for Tuesday's Circle meeting.  I will start on that this morning.  I also have to call members for Wednesday bridge and also Thursday bridge next week. This is my regular Wednesday day, but I swapped with Bonney for the Thursday bridge because her family is having a get together in the Atlanta area next Thursday--so it'll be 2 days in a row of bridge here.  Too much going on here next week!

Jane, I'm glad you have your "wheels" again and that you're back into your regular routine, including lunch and bridge with the "girls".  Enjoy!

Sharon, I'm hoping I can avoid a retirement center for quite some time.  I spent a month there after being discharged from the last rehab center and was SO VERY HAPPY to be able to come home.  Of course it meant I need a cleaning service every 2 weeks, but I'm able to manage my laundry, cooking, and a bit of cleaning myself between the Molly Maids visits.  So far, so good!

Mary, you are well placed at your retirement center.  I'm glad I can stay home so far, but I'm not looking forward to the day the boys decide I need to move to one.  Actually we are saving money right now with having the maid service only every 2 weeks.

Joy, it sounds as if your Assisted Living is a good one, too.  Good idea about the tipping situation.  Do you have much turnover with the employees?

Jeanne, I hope Mary's tip works out for you.  Having pain is the pits--and it's nice to know that there are Over the Counter meds than can help.

Marilyn, I'm glad to see that Meloxicam works for you.  Also glad to see that Keith is going to Tai Chi classes.  When Bob was in his last stages of cancer, we bought a Tai Chi video and he was able to do some of the seated ones, even though he had very little energy.  Every little bit of exercise helps, IMO.

After I finish browsing here at S&F, I am going to study the Circle lesson for next Tuesday as I am the presenter--which is going to add to everything else going on next week.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

P.S.  Jeanne, google cleaning companies and see if you have a Molly Maids company near you.  I'm pleased with what they do every 2 weeks.

Hi Gals,  I just got back from the grocery and the library and am beat.  It was Super Double Coupons day, so I had to go through Sunday's coupon leaflets and cut out some and pick through my coupon saver to see what was worth while to buy ahead.  They double the coupons up to $2, so $4 off is pretty good on laundry detergent or something that is expensive.

Jane, glad you got your wheels back and reconnected with your bridge friends.

Sue, great that you got your taxes ready to send in.

Mary, none of the meds you mentioned is aspirin based, but they are all in the same category. And you're right that you need to eat with them.  I take Voltaren generic 3x a day. It helps some but not a lot.

Jeanne, Vit B6 helps with carpal tunnel problems, so it would probably help with the pain in your hands. You need to take it regularly though.  I take it for my hands and can tell a difference if I run out and don't take it for a few days.

Marilyn, my back's still hurting too, but the chiro doesn't help me.  Have you thought about getting a MC  supplement for the other $20%?  Other than dental or vision,  I haven't paid anything since I turned 65! You would have to compare policies and your medical costs to see if it was worth it for you of course.

Sue, you are going to be busy next week. That sounds like the week after I get back from FL.

Hi Darlene. Know what you mean about motivaation for cleaning and doinng  sometimes.
Sharon

jane

Jeanne...Yes, a prescription is needed for tramadol. In fact, they suggest taking a tylenol with it for a boost to it.  I have also been told by medical people to use Tylenol for Arthritis morning and then night.  It's a stronger dose and extended release.

Cold day here and I've been up to my ears in Tax stuff.

I finally got through all the mail....and then I started to download the tax forms that only come that way.    In the process, I found out that Computeshare  or some such name....they handle a lot of different companies forms...wouldn't accept my password  and then wouldn't accept my social sec. number.  Got a "chat" gal and she admitted they were having technical problems.  I told her not a good thing at tax time.  She finally got me a different link that let me into my account and I got  my tax form downloaded.

I think I have everything now printed out and will start the lovely game of matching what I have against the form my tax preparer sends to make sure I have everything.

I sure hope so.  I want to dump it all in her hands PDQ!

Too cold to walk outside, so going to go in and listen to the latest depressing news from DC and have a cup of tea.

jane

maryz

Jeanne, if you want any of those medications to help, you have to take them on a regular basis (per package directions), not just once in a while.  You have to get a level of the medication in your system in order for it to work effectively.

Marilyn, that would be great if you could get Keith to go to tai chi with you regularly.  As you say, it's good for the body AND the mind.

Sue and Joy, no tipping is allowed here, either.  And like Joy's place, they do have a collection at Xmas to divide among all the employees.

jane, glad you're able to be getting back into your routine.  Those "ruts" are mighty comfortable sometimes.

Darlene, getting out for a short trip sounds like a great idea!  Margaret and I are planning to visit grandkids/niece & nephew in SC over Mother's Day weekend.

Sharon, with your having John as a retired pharmacist, I was hoping you'd chime in about taking the OTC meds.  I know you'll let us know if any of us gets too far "out in left field".

jane, some of the stuff John had was handled with CompuShares, and it's been a hassle getting it all transferred to me.  I just found some stuff that's still titled to John (ARGGHH!) and am in the throes of getting it in my name.  Zillions of forms to fill out, get notarized, etc., etc.

Busy day today.  Margaret came over last night so we could get an early start this morning.  Traffic was fairly light, then a wait getting a wheelchair at the medical mall to get to the doc's office.  But it was worth it!  The tech had to work extra hard, but finally got the cast and bandages off.  They got x-rays made.  All looks great!  They did NOT put a new cast on, just a light wrap on the left foot, and wear the hard-soled shoe that I'd had before on the right foot.  And I can wear a regular shoe on the right foot. She (the PA) took the steri-strips off, but didn't take the stitches out.  I'm to go back next week, probably for that.  The foot looks pretty odd with no toes, and walking is going to take some getting used to, but still no pain.  And just having all the dressings off and being able to move my feet around is fabulous!   Then when we got home, Margaret stayed for a while.  She wanted to be there when I took a SHOWER!!! and washed my hair!!!  She also wanted to check me out driving the car, so I drove out so she could go in and pick up some lunch for us, and she okayed me for that, too.  Needless to say, I'm a happy camper.

This afternoon, the estate lawyer came to the apartment with a notary to get some papers signed to get those last couple of financial things transferred into my name.  I thought all that had been done, but then I found a couple of other things that needed done.  Margaret stayed until they left, so she's up to date with that stuff, too.

Now, she's gone home, and I'm getting to finally finish working the puzzles in the paper and online, and getting to the computer stuff.  Whew! Tomorrow, I'm going to meet my swimming buddies for coffee - Hooray!

Sherry I do have Medicare advantage but I still have to pay $20 every time I see the chiropractor and $35 for any specialist. Next enrollment period I am going to see about changing to an MC supplement. My med copays are ridiculous now that I don't have the extra help in paying for them. I am trying to get my COPD meds from the manufacturfer, I sure3 xcan't afford almost 300 a month for the inhaler
