A very early good morning, Buddies (not yet 7:30--I am sleeping less than my usual 8 hours these days!).  It's very chilly here this morning and I've had breakfast and trying to decide if I want to brave the cold and walk, then shower.  Tim will be here about 10:45 to go over my tax papers and help prepare them to go back to my accountant so that she can file for me.  We'll go to lunch and Kroger after we get the paper work done.

I hope every Buddy is feeling well this morning.  Mary, hurray for getting the cast off and having just a light weight thingie for your foot.  Your girls sure are good to you and it's wonderful that they can come to help when it is needed.  Big hugs for a quick recovery!

Jane, I'm hoping we can get my tax stuff signed and back to my accountant today, too.  She's sent forms to pay what is needed to clear my last years taxes, plus forms to prepare this years.  No tax relief here despite the so-called tax relief from Washington!  Too bad I'm not a millionaire!

Joy, thanks for the heads up about your Independent Living facility.  I'm only familiar with the other kind where I play bridge once a month.  Do your daughters live near you?

Darlene, it sounds as if you're feeling better now--and I'm glad for you.

Have a good day, Every Buddy.
Sue

Jane:  I also take Tylenol 8 HR Arthritis twice a day; one in the AM and one with
evening meal. Years ago my doc recommended Tylenol as the pain pill over others.
JOY

Girls:
Just wondering----For years and years I have bought Russell Stover Sugar Free
Chocolate candy and love it. w/Splenda as the sweetener.  NOW ---last bag was not
sweetened w/Splenda but wStevia Extract. One candy gave me extreme diarrhea
so have NOT eaten any more.  Have any of you eaten ANY product containing
Stevia with any bad results?????
JOY

SharonE

Joy, I use a Stevia product called Truvia as a sweetener on my cereal, etc.  I have no problems with it. It is supposed to be better for you than Splenda because it is a natural product without any chemicals. My gastro Dr. said that Splenda and other artificial sweetener were bad for reflux and gas, so I stopped using them. Could you possibly have eaten something else that day that caused the diarrhea?

Mary, I take Tylenol occasionally in addition to my Tramadol if it is really bad.  I did tell Jeanne to take her meds regularly. You are right that you have to maintain a concentration of most drugs in the system to work. You do have to be careful not to take too much Tylenol as it affects the liver in excess doses or when combined with alcohol.  I am so glad you got your cast off and that you can now drive.  I know you will feel so much freer.  I hope learning to walk again isn't difficult.  I know that shower and hair shampoo felt wonderful!

Sue & Jane, I hope that the tax changes for next year will make all this preparation easier, but probably not.  I was so glad to get my tax stuff in the mail last week, but I haven't heard anything from the accountant yet.  It's a job I hate too.

Marilyn, John is using a Canadian pharmacy for his glaucoma drops which are sooo expensive. He thinks he will save about $2000 a year. He has already received his first meds.  If you are interested, email me and I will send you the name and phone #.  One of John's bridge friends recommended it to him.  I also wish you luck on finding a cheaper supplement. I just saw an ad for Humana. You might check them. My supplement is through my teacher's retirement and is Anthem BC & BS which is obviously not an option for you.

It's bright and sunny here today, but only 50 degrees. To be 55 tomorrow.

Hope you all have good weather and a good day.  Sharon

JUST FYI: Be  careful about the Canadian Pharmacies.  We used one quite a few years ago for inhalers, etc. and the Customs people stopped us.  Got a note it's illegal and they confiscated the meds.  Maybe that's changed now?  It makes no sense....customs lets people bring in personal supplies of drugs from Mexico, I know.  [We don't...we don't feel safe in Mexico, nor safe with the drugs sold there.]

Marilyn....I'd guess your Advantage Plan premium is a lot less than you'll pay for regular Medicare and then a Supplement. I hope you'll check it out carefully. I don't think you can get a supplement with an Advantage Plan.  That's suppose to include both and drugs, too, I think???  We don't do that since we want the freedom to go to doctors we want and not worry about a "network," etc.

Taxes are out in the hands of the CPA group.  What a relief!
I'll be surprised if the tax prep is easier, unless there are things we can't deduct anymore, or if our taxes are less in the end.

Nice day here...and another couple decided to join us for our Friday Fish...all of a sudden told Ray he and his wife would pick us up at 4:30 when he heard our friends saying what time they were leaving.  Ray was caught in a very awkward situation.  I guess they'll drop us back off at home tonight and then we'll drive to our "dessert host" place.

Good advice on the drugs some are using. So far I only have the slight problem with my thumbs. I now put on a type of glove when I know i am going to be doing a lot of typing or lifting something heavy. Seems to work as all I have taken for past 2 weeks in a couple of Advil.  I just have always had some fear of taking any medication. I do depend on herbs and some of my Grandmothers remedies. She had one  for most everything. use to not mention anything to her

growing up. But a lot to be said of the old ways I think.
I thought my hair was thining and so got started on the Old. twice  a week before shampoo mix up Castor Oil, Egg yolk, honey. Run on scalp and cover with cap and leave for hour. Not done that for years. Could be that it was just the winter making hair look a little limp. But it sure doing good again. Gran. knew .
MaryZ.  I had not idea what operation you had on your foot but sounds like it is coming along good. Now is it the leg that you had the new knee put in?  Remember my Daughter had hers done same time.  She is having to have the other knee done now. Now will you have to have different size shoes? I still a little confused.
Oh! I forgot. At 9pm was wanting to watch the 20/20 show on all the twins that have been separated as babies and now able to find out and now meeting each other. Got go go.

Jeanne, I had both feet operated on.  The more extensive surgery was on the left foot, which is the side with the "new knee", but there's no correlation between the two.  The toe problems are due to a minor birth defect.  It really hasn't had much effect through the years, but over time, the deformities have worsened.  And after almost 82 years, it got to be time to do something about them - or have much worse problems.  In any case, all the toes on the left foot were amputated; the 4th and 5th toes on the right foot were fused together.  I've been pleasantly surprised at how little pain and discomfort I've had.  I know I'll be learning to walk a little differently.  I'm using a walker all the time for now, but once I "graduate" to regular shoes, I hope I'll be able to go with just a cane, and then maybe even without any assistive device.  Time will tell.  That's probably lots more information than you wanted.

Glad your hair remedy is working for you.  I think modern medicine is finding out some of those folk remedies had some value to them.  Although, to be sure, some "natural" stuff that's out now can be very dangerous.

and----my doc can order any drug he wants to add for me---a real lifesaver when you
don't drive anymore

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I've been on the phone most of the morning--I am scheduled to have bridge at my house on Wednesday AND on Thursday and there have been lots of problems with both groups.  I just learned that a member of our Parish and friends with almost all of the Thursday group died last night and a funeral will probably be held soon, but no details yet.  I was asked to keep quiet about it until it is announced--so I may have to re-call all those who accepted.  At least I can keep the cookies in the freezer until needed, so that's OK.

It's nice and sunny here although a bit chilly.  I did get a nice walk in before I started my phone marathon.  I'm going to have some soup Tim brought over yesterday for my lunch, so very little food prep here today.  I'll probably make BLT's for supper.

Mary, I'm glad you're having little pain and hope it doesn't increase and leaves quickly.  It must be a relief to have it taken care of.  I am using a cane outside but have managed to walk safely inside my home without it.  So I'm pretty sure you'll be able to manage pretty well with a cane.  I walk at least 20-25 minutes daily outside with the cane and am happy to do that.

Joy, it sounds like your arrangement with the assisted living is working well for you.  It's great to have the prescription's delivered to your home.  I can certainly understand what a lifesaver it is when you don't drive anymore, as I am still not cleared to drive!

Hi Jane, Jeanne, Darlene, Alpiner, and hopefully GinnyAnn and any other Buddy looking in.  Have a pleasant day, Every Buddy.

Sue

SharonE

John used  Planet Pharmacy in Canada. One of his bridge friends uses it and told him about it. The savings on John's eye drops are immense!  He got his first shipment with no problem.

Joy, the retirement centers seem to have so many conveniences in the complex for those who don't drive. I know my aunt had a bank, a hair salon, a pharmacy, and a post office sub station as well as buses to the nearby mall. When the time comes that we need that or one of us is alone, it sounds like a good option.

Mary, it's hard to believe that you have had so little pain with your foot surgery.  I do hope you will find it easy to walk once they are healed.

Sue, why don't you email bridge members and make them responsible for getting a sub?  That's what we do.  I'm sorry you lost a friend.

Jane, sounds like your friends were glad to have you back home!

Melanie's son, Thomas, turned 26 yesterday. He is the one engaged to be married in May 2019. We called of course and had a nice chat.  His sister's birthday is this coming Wed.  She will be 29! She is the one with the 2 little ones.

Jonathan called Thursday to check in and see how we were doing.  He is so thoughtful.

I just came in from mounting my window bluebird house. I hope it stays up now.  I used Gorilla tape.

I also filled the bird feeders and swept off the patio that was covered in leaves.  If they don't come and clear them up soon, I'm going to be very upset.

No plans other than PT and maybe a walkie if I can get up the energy.  Sharon

We bought a portable mini concentrator yesterday . It was a demonstrator & only has 10 hours on it & came with a cover & a cart , also connections to charge it in a modern car & home electrical outlet . We are going on a Model T Ford tour next week , I'll bring it along on the tours in our Model T but will only use it as needed .  I'm trying to wean my self from the oxygen as the dr. told me to do . So far I 'm able to be off oxygen for 2 hours .
This is the unit I have .

Nice day here and we’ve got a lot done.  We’d been to breakfast, the grocery, WalMart and a new store opening and home before noon.

We both have been working on clearing out closets and dresser drawers.  Ray has two huge bags filled with clothes he no l9nger wants/needs.

I’ve got sausage and sauerkraut in the oven for supper.  Easy and one of Ray’s favorites he doesn’t have very often.

Jane

MaryZ. Thanks for explaining what you had done to your foot. I must have missed it when you first mentioned having it done. Isn't it wonderful what can be done now?I bet they have you managing walking and driving car again soon. I remember my favourite uncle. He was born with Web feet. I dont think they could do anything then. Didnt seen to bother him as he was in the Army for years. Funny part was. He never learned to swim.

Sue You are having a time like me now.  Seems like always someone you know well showing up in the Obit.  I use to feel like I had to attend funerals but finely just stopped it.  Been about 5 this past 3 months. thing is around her now Cremation is the thing and will say Memorial at a later date. Then never happens.  Have 3 very close but they are "Bodies to Science" so will not be anything there.
Suppose as we live long enough we have to expect all this.

Sunday Afternoon Greetings, Dear Friends!

Jeanne....it's so right about the Obits suddenly having a lot of names you know.

We've been up and have beef short ribs in the crock pot for supper later today, did some cleaning up around the kitchen, cleaned out and refilled two bird feeders, and we've been for a short walk.  The temps are in the high 40s and no wind and the sidewalks are all clear.  If they aren't I turn around and come back.  I'm not risking a fall because someone hasn't cleared in...in violation of local law.

There are lots of basketball games on today, but few that interest me.  It'll be big time basketball next week as the NCAA tournament...aka March Madness begins.

Jeanne, in our area, even if the person is cremated or whatever, there is a service in the church or funeral home or a celebration of life somewhere. What they do depends on whether they are believers or not, I guess.  We've had a lot of deaths among acquaintances too, but the only close friend I've lost recently is Ms Frances.  My sil's sister also passed away last fall, but that was in IN, so that precluded our attending.

Jane, sounds like you and Ray have really been active and getting lots done. Glad your weather is good too. It's rainy and cold here, but we did go to SS & church.  John is back at church at a finance committee meeting.  I had lots of activities coming up for the church to report on to the newspapers this week and still found a couple more in the bulletin today. You guys are really decluttering. It seems like you are always redding things out.  I donated a big sack of stuff a couple weeks or so ago, but it had been accumulating for a while.  I really need to go through my closet and pitch lots of stuff I can't wear anymore.

I have a load of laundry in and will probably put in another later.

Hope everyone is having a blessed Sunday.  Sharon

JeanneP

I should get out and walk as it is about 40 and no wind today. I have been really lax on walking outdoors this winter. I get a lot by going to the stores and taking time walking around.

Jane. Do you brown your ribs before putting into clock pot?

It is getting now that I am seeing the children of friends of years ago are passing. Hard to believe these have now gotten into the late 60s. Seems to be more passing at that age these day. Not getting yearly checkups I suppose.
JeanneP

jane

Jeanne....Yes, I do brown the boneless ribs and then put them in the crock pot with beef stock to cover them, onion, a bit of worchestershire (Sp?) and garlic.  This I had on high for 5 or so hours and we had with fine noodles.

I watched the March Madness and see Auburn is in as is Butler...so Sharon and Sue will be happy.  The format this year was really odd...and on TBS....and the audio didn't sync with the video.  Goofy!

Good evening, Every Buddy.  I attended SS and Church this morning--in the rain--and it has rained most of the day.  I had to work on the lesson for Tuesday's Circle meeting as I am the presenter this time which took a while.  I had the last of Tim's soup and a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch and a BLT for supper.  I've been reading since putting out the trash for tomorrow's pick up and watching a bit of TV.  Not much else going on with the rain continuing all day.

I hope you've had a good day.  I'll get back here tomorrow morning.
Sue

SharonE

Jane, would you believe our ridiculous paper only published the south and west parts of the bracket, so I didn't know Butler made it.  That's great.  I wonder if Purdue made it. I would think so as they were ranked much of the year.  I'm sure Brian will comment on FB.  Your short ribs sound yummy.

We had salmon salad (a tossed salad with crumbled smoked salmon and feta cheese. Good and healthy and easy to fix.

I don't have much on my agenda today, but have my preop visit with the cataract surgeon and the surgical center tomorrow.  I'm so tired of doctor's appts!!

Jane, do you have snow?  Belleville, IL  does and we have a chance of flurries this afternoon.  What a weird winter/spring.

Hi to all.  Sharon

SCFSue

It was still dark and dreary when I got out of bed this morning--and seems as if it will stay this way all day.  I haven't walked yet as I needed to work on tomorrow's Circle lesson which I must present.  I'm playing bridge at 1:30 at Libba's around the corner.  She's having one table today.

Tim came by and visited for a short while.  Their elderly dog is at the vet and he doesn't think she'll last much longer.  The day after their previous dog died, Kris went right out and got a fluffy little puppy she named Muffin--and Muffin has stayed a long time.  She's probably a collie mix and is quite large.  She's been a good companion, but it sure hurts when you know you either have to have them put down or watch them die at home.  I'm sad for both Tim and Kris, but especially Kris.

Have a good day, Buddies.

Hello Every Buddy. I hit the floor running this morning and have accomplished  some of what really needs doing. I do think the floors need doing but I would like to hire someone to come twice a month for 2 hours to do some of the cleaning for me. This is going to be hard to get Keith to do. I am feeling a little down today for good reason. Yesterday I told Keith to get his cup out of the microwave, he stood in front of it and said which one is the microwave,  It has been in the same place for probably 30 years. It is not on the counter but at eye level on it's own shelf that was built for it when the kitchen was remodeled all those years ago. He has also started doing a very high pitched whistle that drive me crazy it hurts my ears. I have repeatedly told him not to do that but he  does it anyway saying it is a habit says  it calls the cats, Freckles doesn't like it either and it does not call the cats. He thinks he is OK and will not consent to doing the legal documents that are necessary.

maryz

Marilyn, I'm SO sorry for what you're having to deal with.  It sounds like it's almost gotten to the point where you need to just not ask K if it's okay for you to do something, and to just go ahead and do it.  My heart just aches for you.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

Marilyn

Thank you Mary. I do have to have his signature on  things like a POA and his DNR or what how he wants is medical  things done if he is incapacitated He hasbn't done a will either, he seems to think the stat won't take hisx $$ oor goods but they will to pay for his care before he will get any medicaid help. The state will deplete any funds he may have first, We have to get everything out of his name so that won't happen.

SharonE

Marilyn, you absolutely need to get his sons involved and tell them how bad it has gotten and insist that they contact his lawyer to get the papers drawn up and then take him down and make him sign them. You have to protect yourself. I'm so sorry you are having to go through this.  With your back and all, you definitely need some help.  Can you convince K to vacuum and mop?  Maybe they can help you get guardianship of him too.

Sue, I'm sorry to hear about Kris & Tim's dog.  I'm afraid we're facing the same thing unless this salivary gland heals.  So far it is stable.

Sharon.

Sadly,
dispersing our holdings, and savings
before a sick patient has to get care,
( and  medicare takes over),
has to be done (I believe) five years
prior to when the patent enters a home.

You need to speak to a lawyer and
have him/her explain how they
determine how much one is worth
when apply for help via the
medicare system.

It is very eye opening...
and can cause much grief.

Marilyn I wish you all the best
at this time as Keith  starts to show
more symptoms  "A"....

Sadly things do not get better as the
person that we love begins to
disappear before our very eyes,
and begins to act like a stranger.

Weather not that warm but at least sunny today. They are saying up in the 50s bye Friday.
Today I went to ENT and they did my 6 month Check up that I cancelled in December. I had started having a problem with left ear. Never have wax  build up in Right one. She found plenty. It seemed like I keep loosing hearing in last few weeks. It will  Just last a day and then back O.K again. That is the side where I had the surgery 3 years ago now and I still can pinch my ear lobe and not feel it. Surgeon told me that all the nerves had been cut and would  not ever feel like it was prior to the Surgery. Did a great job though. I let them do the test this time to see if has lost any of my hearing but came out the same as when done 4 years ago. Think it came out 85% O.K for sound both ears. Could suggest some aid if I think needed but now after the cleaning just keep the wax taken care of and test for sound more often. I will go with that. Hate to think of spending the thousand  aids cost.  I think that they are finding other things to replace hearing aids. You watch. There will be implants of some kind soon.
Had the eye check up last week and now the ears. Think thats all on my list now until end of year. (Hope). I think that this winter as had me thinking getting Old. But how lucky i am to be able to have few things that they can fix easy. All will be better once the weather get nice.

I'm slowly weaning myself of the oxygen .  I rode into town this afternoon with hubby in our 1926 Model T Ford . Hubby filled the T with gas while I went next door to the bank .  We over paid a bill & got a refund  check !  A lady waiting in line in the bank commented on the T , I didn't think she could see it from where she was standing .
I discovered how to clean the tubes to my oxygen concentrator online .  They are suppose to be hung up until they dry inside .  It wasn't happening & I needed to use one .  I hooked it up wet , the oxygen dried it out .
I sort of over did today doing laundry , making cookies & packing for the T tour . I'm going to sleep like a log tonight !
