I've been to the eye dr and she said everything was fine except my right eye is weaker than my left. I may have to continue to use cheaters when I read long time.  Nothing else going on here

Alpine r, glad you are safe. A flat tire can be dangerous but you handled it well. Glad you're off of oxygen.

Sue, we've gotten showers the past few days but not much accumulation. Most of the raiin goes around us. NC north of Charlotte and in the mountains have been deluged.

The landscapers mowed again today, so I guess they are back on schedule.  So glad.

Hi to all..   Sharon

Marilyn

In Case you are wondering where I ahve been I have been busy. Gilbert and Sonja were up over the weekend. Boy oh boy did he have a rough time with his asthma, I think he is allergic to the cats. We had a wonderful time  going to two different beaches and touring the gardens at  Shore Acres State Park. They bought  me there different kinds of tom ato plants for Mother's day and Gilbert planted them for me. Today I bought two more pits and replanted them as they were all in the same [ot.

Freckles and I have been doing the school program this week,  we have three days in a row. Today is our 2 nd anniversary and Thursday si Keith's Birthday.  I don't think we are doing anything special for either day. I have left over chicken and Rice curry in the fridge that will take care of tonight's supper.

SCFSue

Hello Buddies.  It's almost bedtime.  My cleaning ladies came this morning and got everything into ship shape.  I had to shower/dress for bridge at Azalea Place where I play once a month with retired women.  I had so so hands, but enjoyed the lunch we had today (baked fish was very good).

Afterwards as Libba and I were leaving, a large group of the retirees were gathered in the large parlor where a gentleman was playing the piano and lots were singing along.  He played mostly oldie goldies and I sang right along with them.  When I was a young girl, we listened to the hit parade on the radio and on Saturday afternoons, my Dad's cousin Frances who helped raise us, only worked a half day.  We walked to town about noon to her shop and she took us to the newspaper/book store where she bought a comic book for Anne and me and also a paper back pamphlet which featured all the popular songs of that time.  We sang a lot and the piano player played a good many of them today and I sang right along with other ladies who were enjoying his music.  It was a nice ending to a rainy day!

Sleep well, Every Buddy.
Sue

SharonE

It sounds like youhad a wonderful weekend with Gilbert and friend. I enjolyed your pics on FB  Happy anniversary once again and tell Keith, Happy Birthday.

Sue, what a nice end to your bridge game.  A lot of the retirement homes have people come in to play the piano or perform..

It's still chaos at the Ede house regarding John's sister. All hell broke lose last night and they put her in the ER for a psych eval on a made-up story.  She has to stay there till tomorrow.  Not sure what the future holds. Not sure if we're still going to Brian's or what.  A total mess. And John is not handling it well.

I was at bridge this AM after getting only 6 hrs sleep.  John got less.

I just saw my 2nd hummer of the day at my den window.  One nice note.

Please keep us in your thoughts/prayers.  Sharon

SCFSue

Sharon, I'm sorry to hear about the problems with John's sister.  And a sleepless night is tough to take.  Has she been living with you temporarily?  Is she an older sister?  I'm putting you and John on my prayer list.  Keep us posted please.

I've been over to Olyne's for our Wednesday bridge club.  Helen is back which meant that we were there longer than need be.  She is 97 or 98 now and is not very good at bridge in the first place.  With her recent fall and hospital stay, it's worse.  However she'll continue to come to bridge whenever this club plays.  We're going out to the University club in two weeks and she is the hostess--so may or may not play.  She often invites non members to join us for lunch and bridge afterwards.

Did you watch The Great American Book Club on PBS last night?  They are displaying titles of 100 must read books.  I've read many of them, but will try to print out the list and see how many I can read during this next year.

Hi to every other Buddy.  I hope you've all had a good day.
Sue

maryz

Marilyn, glad you had such a good visit with your son & friend (except for the allergies, of course).

Sharon, I'm so sorry for your anguish.  The problem itself is bad enough, but being at a distance and not knowing what is really happening just makes things worse.  Maybe John can go to see if there's anything he needs to do to help.  Hugs to you both.

Sue, we have music here almost every afternoon - usually playing old standards, with sometimes country and gospel mixed in.  It sounds like your Azalea Place is a nice one.

jane, like you, we haven't had much spring.  Things seemed to go from winter straight to summer.  Jean said today we had "winter, pollen, then summer."  All too true.

Kate, Jean, and Jean's friend Kay came down today - just to visit for a little and go out for lunch.  As usual, it was great to see them.  I'm doing laundry this evening, and it's time to get stuff out of the dryer.

Sleep well, Buddies!

I'm not feeling well , I have a low grade fever , no appetite & tired . Also aches & pains & chills . If I sit down I fall asleep .

maryz

alpiner, sounds like a good time to check with your doctor.  I hope you're feeling better soon.

Nothing on my schedule today.   :)

SharonE

Thanks for the commiseration for our problems.  Sue, Milly lived in Belvidere, IL and was moved to Hubbard, IA against her will to be near her husband's family. However, they are very insensitive and like bulldozers which doesn't work. They have told John to stay out of it and that he was just making things worse.  Since they don't keep us   informed of what is going on, it is very difficult.

We are scheduled to fly to St. Louis tomorrow, but John make back out at the last minute. If so, I will be desolated.

Mary, how nice that you were taken out to lunch by Jean, Kate & friend.  I'm sure that breaks the monotony. Nice that you have music almost daily.

Sue, it is difficult when someone in a group becomes so old, she can't play well.  Not much you can do though. Our game yesterday was nice, but I didn't win anything. I actually don't know what my final score was.

I need to finish the packing today and get the kennel instructions typed up, but not much else.  Have a good day. Sharon

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I slept late this morning because I stayed up late to watch 3 Thin Man movies--all filmed in the late 30's, early 40's.  Clever and funny.  So I was glad I'd noticed they were going to be on TCM last night.

I'm planning on a little weeding, a load of wash, and a walk during what remains of the morning.  I still am reading my last library book from last week's trip to the library and I want to finish it today.  Tim will be coming around 11:00 tomorrow to take me to lunch, library, and Kroger.

Sharon, I'm sorry about the situation with John's sister and her in-laws.  It is always difficult to have to deal with extended family who aren't keeping you in the loop.  I'm wondering if perhaps they have some connection to her finances.  I do hope John will go with you to Brian's.  If not, go ahead and enjoy your visit.  Keep us posted.

Alpiner, I hope you will feel better today, but perhaps you should give your doctor a call.

Mary, what fun to have Kate, Jean, and friend Kay to visit yesterday.  It sounds like a fun girls lunch out!

I need to get out for my morning walk, although I'd piddled away most of the morning.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

jane

Marilyn....glad you had a good visit with Gilbert and his girlfriend...in spite of the allergies.

Sharon...I hope you can go to Brian's, even if John elects not to go.  The situation with his sister is so sad.

Sue...How nice to enjoy the music at the bridge place.

Mary....Jean is sure right....winter, pollen, and summer.  Here, too, it's suddenly like late July and August....too hot, humid, and buggy.

Alpiner...hope you get to feeling better soon.  Sure hope it's not the flu.  You don't need that.

Ray had gotten some flowers yesterday while I was at bridge, and we got those in the ground before it became too hot out there.  I also have laundry in.

Tonight we're going to a demonstration at the Masons of the new police dog, etc.  It should be interesting.  One of the cops who works with the police dog is a former student, so it's even more interesting to me.

My dr. has a policy , no drop ins . If I call for an appt. it will be several days before i can see him . My other choice is to go to Urgent Care . I felt better today but its back this evening .

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I've finished breakfast and am dressed to go out with Tim for our usual Friday lunch, Kroger shopping, and a library visit.  I need him to call USAA investments this morning and discuss changing the investments I've had for Alex and Nick because USAA is closing that account.  They have suggested moving the money to another investment that is getting higher yields.  Today is the last day to make that decision.  I want the higher yields, but would like to have Tim approve the move.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

My primary care dr. put me on Probiotics after I had pneumonia , I ran out & will get more when I go shopping . My stomach did feel better taking them . We have a trip coming up & I want to feel better before then .

maryz

Hope you feel better soon, alpiner.  Where are you going on your trip?

Sue, it's great that you have Tim to take care of those things for you.  I certainly appreciate it when my girls do that for me.

Sharon, I hope your trip goes well...without too much upset from the problems with John's sister.  So hard.

Nothing exciting planned here for the weekend.  Margaret says she is coming over with a new patio umbrella for me (the old one broke in some wind gusts) and more plants.  That's about it.

Happy Memorial Day to all the Buddies!

maryz   its a Model T Ford tour  starting out in California's wine country . One of the days we will be going to  the Redwoods .

SCFSue

Good morning, Every Buddy.  I stayed up late last night watching WW2 war movies.  I'd never seen the Guns of Navaronne with Gregory Peck and other stars and also watched The Dirty Dozen again with Lee Marvin and others.  Both films were on TCM.  So I'm moving slowly this morning.  It's already 11:00 a.m. and all I've accomplished is making my bed and reading this morning's paper!  I'm going out to walk when I check out the other forums I read daily.  So far it's not too hot, but it is pretty sunny.

Alpiner, I'm glad the probiotics helped your tummy upset.  Your Model T Ford tour of the California Wine country sounds like fun!  Enjoy!

Mary, I  also appreciate Tim.  He is a huge help to me with financial decisions, shopping, etc.  I know your daughters do much the same for you.  I feel bad for him sometimes, though, as Bill is in Illinois and Jon in New Orleans area and they are unavailable for the kind of help I need.  Some things I just can't do for myself!

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.  I need to find a broad brimmed hat and get outside for a walk before the temperature gets any higher.

Sue

I wish I'd slept late this morning.  After being awake for a while, I got up a little before 5 a.m. (definitely not my choice).  No nap yet, but I'm assuming that one will happen sometime this afternoon.

Late yesterday afternoon, a hummingbird flew up and almost literally knocked on my door.  He came up and looked in at me as if to say, "We're here!  It's time to put out the feeders!"  So I did - about 7 p.m. last night. And one or ore hummers have been checking the feeder out so far today. Glad to see them coming back.

jane

Mary....glad to hear the hummers are appearing....haven’t seen any here yet...but this 90 + degrees may bring them out.

We got up early and parked downtown and then walked s real blocks down to our newly located farmers’ market.  It’s now down by the river, and a huge crowd and 3x the number of vendors.  It’s great.  I think everybody went early to beat the heat.  We walked back uptown and went to breakfast at local cafe.

Nothing much planned today....way too hot to be outside for us.  Storms last night dropped 2” of rain.  Our young man who does the mowing is just finishing up.

Have a restful and safe weekend,

Jane

Good morning, Buddies.  Happy Memorial Day!  I will be staying home all day, but I've put my American Flag out on my flag pole and hope it doesn't rain again.  We had lots of rain late yesterday and even into the late night.  I won't be going to the town's Memorial Park for the laying of a wreath today as I usually do.  I'm sure Bonney will pick up Jean and they will attend, but they both live on the other side of town.  Bonney didn't mention going yesterday at church.  It's very possible we will have more rain today.

Not much else going on today besides the usual laundry.  I put my trash barrel and baskets down by the curb yesterday evening, but should have left them inside as our trash personnel have the day off as they usually do on Holiday Mondays.  The news paper container and cereal and other boxes are soaked!

I hope this Memorial Day contains some happy memories for Every Buddy.

Sue

Marilyn

Good mrning, We are4 getting hair cuts today.  that is all that is planned for us. I will be going to Tai Chi this afternoon.

Not much has been going on around here lately. I am still feeling bad that Gilbert has such a bad asthma attack when he was here due to the cats. Well I only have one cat and one dog,. Keith has 4 cats and is feeding another outside that has come over from next door. that is 4 that have come from there, two that live with us , one that died in my arms and the old girl now that he feels sorry for and wants to bring in  the house but I won't let him. It is Kathy's cat not ours.

jane

Good Afternoon!

We are having Gary and Kathy up about 4:00 for ribs, potato salad, and baked beans.

Ribs will go in the oven for 2-3 hours and then finished on the grill.

Ray went up to the Services at the cemetery, but he stayed in the car.  Just too hot for us.  It’s in the 90s now.

Jane

SCFSue

It's almost 1:00 here.  I was pulling off dead gardenias when Tim and Kris showed up with some ribs Tim has cooked on his grill.  We had a short visit so that he could look through my paper work and Kris and I checked out my gardenia bushes.  Then he came outside and we all talked about my little garden space.  On Friday he'll take me by Ace Hardware so that I can get some tomato plants, maybe some green beans--depending on what they have left.

I sautéed some fresh asparagus and heated the ribs, plus made a cottage cheese/blueberry salad for my lunch.  I'm full now and I'm going to lie down on my bed to read a library book I started this morning while I ate breakfast.  It's a C. J. Box mystery with Ranger Joe's mother-in-law as the chief suspect in the murder of her wealthy husband.  I doubt seriously that she had anything to do with it, but you never know.  She's a pretty devious woman!  He was the 5th husband.  She usually divorces them and marries up the financial ladder.

Happy Memorial Day, Buddies.
Sue

maryz

It's nice and cool here today - getting the first of our rain from Hurricane Alberto.  We've had about an inch so far.  It's supposed to rain for the next 2-3 days as the hurricane moves inland.  At least we won't have devastating flash floods like they had in Elliott City, MD.  The flood there two years ago was just after we were there - right in the middle of the flood area.  It's really scary to see - even on film.

Sue, your ribs sound so good.  No special meals here today.  I went up for lunch today, but am now back in soft clothes.  I'm going to have leftovers tonight here at home.  Margaret came over yesterday afternoon to return and install my repaired patio umbrella, and bring more hanging baskets.  She's brought Mandeville and fuchsias this year, plus returning the two hibiscus she wintered over from last year.  They're all loving the rain.

Happy Memorial Day, Buddies!

Hi Gals, we're home!  Bunny is too.  We had a wonderful family gathering, way too much food, including ribs, a smoked tri-tip roast, lots of good sides and 3 different cheesecakes.  Everyone is home safely now.

Everything is still a mess with John's sister.  They scheduled a competency hearing for today.  The sil was behind that. It's Milly's husband who is incompetent! Haven't heard the results yet. John was unable to reach the lawyer over the holidays. He wouldn't answer or return calls.  We talked to Milly every day, but it would have been better if John could have gone up there.  Not a lot we can do from here.

Sounds like everyone had nice holidays, except Alpiner.  I hope you are feeling better now.  John caught a bad cold  starting just before we left.  He still sounds awful and between the cold and his sister's situation is like a bear with a sore toe.

I have to go to the grocery and then do laundry.  Have a good day everyone!  Sharon

SCFSue

After Tim and Kris left yesterday morning, it started raining and rained most of the day.  I spent lots of time reading and also watched several WWII movies on TCM.  I stayed up past my bedtime to watch "Bridge on the River Kwai" which is a long time favorite.  The other goodie that I watched prior to "Bridge, etc." was Stalag 17.  A great WWII film about a prison camp with lots of great actors. I especially liked the final chase of Steve McQueen on a stolen German motorcycle.  I wondered if these films are ever shown in Germany these days.

It rained almost all night according to the newspaper and will probably rain more today.  I have plenty of books from Friday's trip to the library.  I watched more movies which curtailed my reading time this weekend.  I had put my American flag out yesterday a.m. and it started raining very hard about lunch time and I got wet although I was able to bring the flag in and put it into the dryer.  I'm not going to hang it out again today as I think we'll get another big burst of rain anytime now.

Mary, your daughters are really good to you, too.  I know you are always glad to see them and very close to all of them.  I am lucky, too, to have Tim and Kris so close by.  Bill called me yesterday afternoon and Jon and Stacie called this morning.  They'd been over to Arkansas to visit with Stacie's mother and step-dad.  Alex went with them, but Nic volunteered to stay home with the dog.  Last year Nic and Alex went to Arkansas to stay with their grandparents for 2 weeks to help them get settled in their new home out there.  I think Nic wasn't up for another visit of doing "grunt" work!  And the family dog is pretty old now, so someone needed to stay home with him.

Not much else to report from here.  Sharon, I'm glad your trip to Illinois was a happy one.  I'm so sorry about the mess with John's sister and the son-in-law.  It has to be very troubling--and not a whole lot that you all can do to help from afar.  Thoughts and prayers for a good solution coming your way.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

jane

Another hot one here.

We had ribs yesterday, too, with the usual sides here...potato salad and baked beans.

We were both exhausted last night from getting everything ready and having Gary and Kathy up for the meal.

Things like that wear us out anymore.

Temp up in the 90s again...and "they" say maybe some rain, but we're watering in case it doesn't appear.

Inside and catching up on laundry.  I swear people sneak in at night and leave dirty clothes in our basket!

jane

SharonE

Jane, I know what you mean about the laundry. There always seems some to do. I've got my 2nd load in today. It really is hot for you. We're in the low 80's with rain forecast daily. Had some last night but none yet today.

Mary, your deck is going to be beautiful this summer. Hibiscus flowers aand manzanilla vines are among my favorites.

I'm back from the grocery and have eaten lunch, but that's about it.  Hi Sue.  Thanks for the good thoughts about Milly's situation.
Sharon

Marilyn

Hi every buddy. yesterday was hair cut day for us. Mine is very short niw, Keith's is longer than mine but he did get it cut and he even shaved on Sunday for church. I am so glad he did he was getting rather bushy-faced.  :smiley6600:

Went to the gym at 7:15 this morning, came home emptied the dishwasher and made breakfast,. Then took Freckles class  a walk,  got ready to Tai Chi, and went  to teach the class, only 3 people today. My students are beginning to feel the results of better balance and general well being. How many show up varies from class to class

Our Sunriver trip is coming up the end of next week, I will be so glad to have 8 days of  nothing to do and no place in particular to go.  We will be  walking a lot  to the village and going  to visit the stores there and maybe have dinner out inon of the many restaurants in the village. .

I have been having headaches , backaches , loss of appetite .  I googled a little white pill my cancer dr. has me taking .  These are all side affects of this medication !!  I was told I could take ibuhprofen for any pain it may cause but too much can cause liver problems !  I have been taking it for months & just started having all these discomforts !!  I can't imagine going through this discomfort for the rest of my life !!
