Good news, Jane.

Mary, I think you enjoy your deck more than anything in your new place and I can see whyl.

I had my appt for a fitness center orientation today. I took a pain pill before I left but was still hurting a lot. After the orientation, I did a set on each of the machines we determined I ccould do.  Then I went to Walgreens to pick up some things on their 20% off for seniors day.  I really like doing the machines at the fitness center and have missed doing it. I'm still going to have to be super careful though.  My doctor had told me that I really needed the strengthening because of being osteoporotic.  My appt with him is Friday to go over a number of things.

It is sunny and mid 80's today, so nice.  Hi to Darlene, Sue, Marilyn, and whoever else I'm missing.  Sharon

SCFSue

Hi Every Buddy.  This morning my cleaning ladies were here, so I needed to get up early to be ready for them--and Tim came by early, too, with his chain saw and cut up the tree that fell in my back yard and I toted the pieces down to the curb for next weeks' trash pickup.  I hope they take it all away! After we finished that he left to get busy with his work and I walked to my voting precinct to vote.  That took about 15 minutes each way.  There weren't many people there except poll workers, so I was able to vote quickly.  I doubt if those I voted for are elected though.  I'm a Democrat and most everybody who lives in my district is a Republican.

When I came home I had to call a couple of people to sub for bridge club at my house on Thursday.  Merilin is ill and Dorothy is out of town.  It took a while but finally reached our favorite subs, Diana and her neighbor who has occasionally subbed for us.  Merilin had been in the hospital last week--and is pretty ill, but was released to go home.  I talked to her after returning from my polling place.

I hope all is well with Every Buddy.
Sue

Good morning, Buddies.  It's almost 11:30 here and I'm moving, but slowly.  I did go out back and finish mowing the yard out there, so have accomplished one thing today.  Tim came by to bring me a veggie casserole which he and Kris had yesterday, so I have my lunch mostly ready.  I'll probably nuke a baked potato and call that lunch along with cottage cheese and tomatoes.  I need to get out my bridge tables and set up for tomorrow's bridge game here.

Not much else to report except that it's very sunny, but not yet unbearably hot.  Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Sue

SharonE

Not much on here. Just taking care of some business.

Sue, how nice of Tim to bring over the casserole.  Also, pace yourself on your outside work. It sounds like you did too much yesterday.

Marilyn, when do you leave for Sun River?

Hi to Mary, Darlene,  Alpiner, Ginny Ann!!, Joy, Jane.  Hope you are all doing well.  Sharon

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  Just a quickie today.  I've been outside dead heading my dwarf camellias--lots more to do out there, but just no time today to do it.   I have my Thursday bridge club coming at 12:30 and I need to do the last minute prep for that after I shower and dress.

I hope everyone is feeling well and that you all have a nice day.

Sue

We must be in the summer doldrums - nobody posting much here (or anywhere else, for that matter).  I hope Marilyn is having a good time at Sun River.

I had an exciting (?) day yesterday.  The plan was to go get a haircut, pick up an order from Walmart grocery, and go see the spine doctor.  It turned out to be two out of three, plus one.  On my way out the door to my car, I fell!   Oh, s***!  I checked all my parts, and could move everything without pain, so I didn't want to call for help (they'd call an ambulance and send me to the ER).  Then it was a matter of actually getting up. It too a while, and definitely wasn't pretty, but I finally managed to get upright again.  I got to the car, and after I finally stopped shaking, was off.  I skipped the haircut, but did the other two.  The folks at the spine clinic opted to try a brace to help with my back pain.  I was glad to find something to try. I got it on okay, but as soon as I sat down, it slid up and loosened.  So I guess that's probably not going to work.  I'm going to try it a couple of times before I call them back about it.

So far, the only problems I've found from the fall are scraped knuckles on my left hand and aches & pain. I decided to skip swimming this morning and just take some acetaminophen and work it out.  I know the pool would've felt good once I got in, but the getting there/changing clothes/changing back into clothes, etc., was just more than I wanted to deal with.

Have a happy weekend, Buddies!

SCFSue

Gosh, Mary.  You really had a tough day yesterday.  I'm so sorry about  your fall and hope your aches and pains go away SOON!  Nothing worse than aches and pains with not much to cause them to go away.  Take it easy and keep us posted.

I've finished reading the paper, cleaned up the kitchen and am ready for Tim to come over to pick me up for our Friday lunch out, Kroger shopping and trip to the library.  Yesterday bridge here went well--although I had to have 3 subs--all good bridge players so that worked out well.

Not much else going on today.  I will probably dead head more camellia blooms when the shade gets around to the bushes down by the street.  Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Sue

Marilyn

We are leaving for Sunriver around 10 tomorrow morning. I thin k I have everything [acked except for the last minute stuff. We will do our grocery shopping  up there at the Grocery Outlet.

Mary..glad you are ok from your fall...I had a laser procedure done on my eye today...to remove scarring from cataracts surgery done a few years ago...no cutting..so relaxing under cool air...Have a good weekend all..Darlene

We have 2 very large Hospital,Clinics here in town. One with 173 doctors and one with over 200. Yet not one listed as Geriatrician. We only have 2 doctors with private office now.I would prefer one that only works with Geriatics as these young ones now when it comes to talking meds do not seem to watch what they give out.
Jane I hope your husband got better advice. I only take one and finely just cut it in half which Dr. says was O.K and now seems to be working O.K.

Good morning, Buddies.  I've been up and about for a while.  I've just returned from Great Clips where I got my ears lowered again.  A young volunteer from the Seniors and Friends group picked me up and waited while I had my hair cut.  The woman who cut my hair did a good job and I won't need a haircut for at least 4 weeks, maybe five because she cut it pretty short.

Not much on my agenda today.  I'll do some more dead heading of the dwarf camellias but not much else outside as the temperature is going to be in the 90's soon.  I started reading a new to me Baldacci novel about military problems, so am expecting to enjoy that.

Marilyn, I guess you're already on your way to Sun River.  Enjoy your vacation and relax as much as possible.  Did you take Freckles with you?

Darlene, I hope the laser surgery went well and your vision is great now.  Keep us posted.

Jeanne, my primary care doctor is a GP and I like him a lot.  He's a retired military doctor.  I see a heart specialist since I had the pace maker put in, but only for check ups--and most of the time when I get to his office, he's in surgery, so one of his assistants checks me out. I see the GP for annual physicals--and have an appointment for the end of July.

Not much else to report.  I started a new novel by David Baldacci this morning while waiting for my ride to Great Clips.  It looks like a good one.  I'll do some laundry and fix lunch, then settle in for a bit of weeding, then some reading out on the deck and when it feels too hot come inside to read some more!

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.   (GinnyAnn, we need a report from YOU!)
Sue

jane

Mary...hope no problems from your fall.

Jeanne...Ray was very pleased with the geriatrician at the Univ. of Iowa.  She was so encouraging and positive.

We are home from the emergency run up to WI to be with nephew while wife underwent spinal surgery....micro diskectomy.  She could barely walk into the clinic on Friday morning...and that was leaning heavily into Don.  She's been crawling on her hands and knees at home.  She couldn't sit in a wheelchair...too soft.  She could only rest on her right side.  So, surgery and she was back in her room 3-4 hours later and no pain....and by night she was walking 45 minutes around the hospital without help or hanging on to anything!  It was incredible.  We saw her again this morning as she was having PT and instructions...and it was an absolute miracle.  Surgeon said she also had a weird anatomy...two nerves were co-joined...so the pressure on them was causing additional pain.

Good to be back home...will get organized tonight and pack for our trip tomorrow to Portland and down OR coast to Yosemite.

Also have my laptop back....less than a week and it's working fine.

Re Sharon:  She posted on facebook that her computer had died, and she was having trouble with John's computer.  She'll be back when she can.

jane, your trip along the west coast sounds wonderful!  I love that part of the country and the drive is wonderful.  That's great about your nephew's wife.  I wish I was a candidate for something like that, but that's not in the cards.

Sue,  you had mentioned having a gardenia, and now you're talking about camellias.  Do you have both?  They are both such wonderful southern shrubs/flowers.

Jeanne, you've been missed - and not around for a while.  I hope all has been okay.

I'm fine.  Not much soreness at all from the fall.  I'm really lucky - and I'm going to try very hard to see that it doesn't happen again.  Margaret just called and her 93 year old neighbor fell last evening and wound up with a broken hip AND broken shoulder.  That is REALLY not good.

Stay cool, Buddies!

We have been away all week on a National Model T Ford Tour near Santa Rosa .  Unfortunately I didn't feel good most of the week .I didn't feel like eating & had problem breathing . I slept with the oxygen at night . The hotel was huge &  very tiresome to walk . I won't go into all the negatives .   There was a computer for public use at the hotel but the only website I could get was facebook . The hotel used Safari & it wouldn't connect with with our email site .

maryz

Sorry your trip wasn't more fun, alpiner.  Travel is no fun when you don't' feel good.

My appetite has really gotten less , I think my stomach has shrunk . This morning I am still tired .  I see one of my dr.s on Tuesday , was suppose to have had a mammogram but didn't . I know she won't be happy .  One thing that messed me up was the medical group switched over to being online & I didn't quite make the transition . My brain is foggy & that doesn't help .

SCFSue

Hi Buddies.  I went to SS (actually a meeting to learn about a proposal to hire a new "College pastor".  We voted to invite a female pastor to take the job and she will start working in September (I think that is when she agreed to start.)  Then we had a nice church service with lovely music from the choir and an interesting sermon from our female Senior Pastor.  (It was about little known women in the Bible who haven't had much emphasis--some I'd never heard of.)

It's very warm again here today.  I've fixed and eaten my lunch and am planning on a quiet day inside, probably reading one of the library books I brought home on Friday.  I've already read 3 of them.  By the end of the week, I'll probably have to rely on my home collection!

Alpiner, I'm sorry you're not feeling well--and hope you'll feel better soon.  Can your husband help with meal preparations?

Mary, I have several Gardenia bushes which have already bloomed in early Spring and one very large dwarf gardenia (actually 3 bushes grown together) down by the street that are now full of small white blooms.  The large Gardenia is in my back yard and had lots of blooms for the first time since I moved here in 2004.   My camellias bloomed in early spring and are finished now.  I had a good group of azalea blooms, too.  They are planted in the back yard, except for a few in my front yard which don't do very well out there.

Jane, that's great news about Ray's visit to the geriatrician and especially for the news that the nephew's wife spinal surgery was so successful.  I know that must have been a relief.  Thoughts and prayers for a complete recovery for her.  Enjoy your trip to Portland and the Oregon Coast all the way to Yosemite!

It's time to get started on a new library book.  Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

SCFSue    My husband is great helping me , so glad I have only made one dinner since we have been home .  I don't remember if I mentioned I strained my right wrist which added to the problems . Its been difficult doing the simplest tasks .

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  We had rain last night, but it's clear and sunny today.  It's going to be pretty hot this afternoon--a typical summer day in Alabama.  I'll try to "dead head" more of the dwarf gardenias this morning before it gets too hot.  I've already gone down to the curb and brought my trash barrel and the containers with newspapers and cardboard cereal and other small boxes up to the house.  I'm having some trouble with my keyboard and hope that Tim can take a look at it when he comes over this morning.  So far it's working much better than last night!

Alpiner, it's good that your husband is able to help you.  Have you seen the doctor recently?  I hope that the strained wrist is better along with your other problems.  Thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery for you.

I hope all you Buddies who haven't checked in already this morning are having a good start to your day.

Sue

alpiner1

My wrist is better but still need to watch what I do . I see the cancer dr. this morning & hope I can stop taking the little white pill which I believe is the cause of most of my discomforts .

maryz

Good luck with your doctor visit, alpiner.  Glad your wrist is better, and I hope the rest of you follows soon.  Keep us posted.

We're in the usual summer weather - hot and humid, highs around 90, with chance of afternoon thundershowers. We had lots of thunder yesterday afternoon, and some areas had flash flooding.  At my place, we had two short, hard showers with about 1/2" of rain.  Just the usual.  My partner and I came in last at duplicate last night.  Oh, well...

I guess Sharon is still having computer problems.  And jane is traveling.  Happy Tuesday to all the Buddies!

Good morning Alpiner and Mary, and whoever might be looking in now.  I've been putzing around since I received a phone call from my friend who is the wife of my former minister down in Union Springs.  One of Bob's closest friends and another ruling Elder has died.  The funeral is tomorrow, but I already have a luncheon/bridge game that I've committed to and will be unable to attend the funeral.  I'll send a check to the Union Springs Presbyterian church in his memory.  He was in his mid-90's.  He was a choir member when I was.  His wife died about 8 years ago.  He and Bob were golf buddies, too.  He has been pretty lonely since Alla May died as his children don't live in Union Springs now.

It's going to be hot here again today, but so far is OK.  So as soon as I check out other posts I'm going outside a while to dead head and/or cut back blooms that need pruning.  Have a good day, Every Buddy--and safe travels to all who need to travel.

I saw the cancer dr. this morning & she agreed with me the med she had me taking to block hormones , Anastrozole is messing up my body . She told me to not take it for 2 weeks . She said not many women lose weight taking it as I have .  Lately it has affected my balance too & today I'm having a problem with my thinking .  We were at the hospital where several of my dr.'s offices are located & waiting for the elevator , I felt wobbly , stayed where I was & called for my husband .
I tried to log in to my file online & couldn't , so I called the help line .  I told the person I was talking with I would have to call back another time because I couldn't follow his instructions .

maryz

That's really scary, alpiner.  I hope the medicine gets out of your system quickly!

Just a quick looking-in.  We are in Portland, going to the rose garden test area and then free to wander around downtown.  Yesterday was Multnomah Falls, Bonneville Dam, and a dinner cruise on the Columbia Gorge.

Stay well, Buddies.

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I'm showered and dressed for bridge at the University Club.  Terri will pick me up in about 15 minutes so this will be short.  I've done some weeding of the flower beds out front, and cleaned up the kitchen so I'm good to go.

Alpiner, I hope your doctor can find another medicine which won't have bad effects.  Keep us posted!

Hi Mary, I hope you're feeling great and have a nice day.

Jane, enjoy the rose garden in Portland.  It was gorgeous when Bob and I visited some years ago.  Your trip sounds like lots of fun--and hopefully the great north west is not too warm for walking around in all those lovely places.

Have a great day, Buddies.
Sue

jane, good to get a trip report from you.  Portland and the whole Columbia River area are so pretty and interesting.  Will you get to Mt. St. Helen's?  Another fascinating place.

Hope you get some good cards, Sue.

Nothing exciting going on around here.  I did get back to the pool this morning - and it did feel good.

Happy Wednesday, Buddies!!

jane , I am glad you are able to visit Portland , my home town !  Were you in Portland in time for the Rose Festival Parade ?  I love to go to the Multnomah Falls when we are in the area .  My Dad worked on the road crews when the roads in the area were being built , WPA , I think .

I stopped taking the Anastrozole this morning . I know it will take awhile to feel normal again . I asked hubby to help me register with my medical online . When I was having to choose a password my brain wasn't working , I got frustrated & started to choke up . I put hubby on the phone with the person who was assisting me . I was to use high case letters & numbers & it confused me .
I hope I don't go through reactions with the next med they put me on .

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I've been outside weeding this morning and am way too hot, so I'm knocking off ship's work until more shade prevails out there.  I'm re-reading a favorite Susan Elizabeth Phillips in my collection and will probably do a few inside chores and finish this one.  I completed reading all my library books late Sunday afternoon.

Mary, I got so-so cards yesterday, plus Helen, our 98 y.o. member, involved me in setting up the card tables, cleaning up after the games, etc.  It amazes me that at 98 she can still get out and about if someone comes to get her.  She has a young woman who spends the day at her house, doing household chores, and another stays overnight in case she needs help.  She's a pretty inept bridge player and I only had to play with her for one round, so that was fine with me.  We had to move outside to the screened porch to play bridge and it was H-O-T! out there.

Alpiner, I'm glad you're off the Anastrozole and hope your doctor finds another medicine that is a better fit for you.  I know it is frustrating to understand phone instructions especially if they are given quickly.  Keep us posted.

Yesterday after I came home from bridge and had just changed into some dry (I was sweated through my clothing!) clothes, a couple came by to deliver a lovely potted plant from the Seniors and Friends organization.  They came in and visited for a short while.  The husband grew up in a town not far from our farm, so we talked about that as well as about my farm.  I put the plant out on my deck this morning, but will bring it in later.  It needs sun and is supposed to withstand heat, but it is going to be out 95 out there by 3:00 this afternoon.

Jane, I hope the weather is lovely and you and Ray are having a great time!

You, too, Marilyn and Keith.

Sue--Ginnyann, I'd sure love to hear from you.  I'm going to look for your phone number--I know I have it somewhere.
