Good morning, Mary, and whoever else is looking in.  I hope you get a new laptop soon.  I dread the day I turn my computer on and nothing happens!  I look forward to my mornings checking out S&F and my 2 e-mail accounts.

I'm dressed and ready for Tim to arrive for our lunch date and visit to the library.  I finished the 6 books I checked out last Friday and had to reread a couple of my paperback collection of Susan Elizabeth Phillips.  I have read some of hers many times--usually when I'm out of library books.  Most of her novels have interesting plots--of course after reading a couple of them, I always know there will be a happy ending!

Have a good day, Every Buddy.

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I've been outside for the past hour cutting ivy off my sidewalk to my front porch (which only strangers use!).  Friends and family know to come to the side door that leads to my family room and kitchen.  I'm hot and sweaty and am going to shower and wash my hair as soon as I cool down a bit.

Tim and I enjoyed our lunch out and then we went to the library to return and get new books and to Kroger.  Yesterday afternoon, I goofed off and read another book!  I have 6 from the library to read, so will start one when I get out of these dirty/sweaty work clothes.

Mary, I hope your new lap top arrived and you are back in business!

Hi to all you other Buddies.  I know Jane and Ray must be enjoying their trip out west and am wondering what the rest of you are doing.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

maryz

I just picked up my new HP laptop.  So now it's a learning experience, finding stuff and reentering "favorites", etc. Change is never easy.

Happy weekend, Buddies!

SCFSue

Good morning, Every Buddy.  I had a quiet weekend, lots of rain and a deluge at church time, so stayed home.  My rain gauge cracked during a freeze during January, so I have no idea how much rain we had, but it was a gracious plenty!  I enjoyed staying inside to read and watch old Hallmark movies.

I've had breakfast and am going out side shortly to do some more yard clean up.  My neighbors used to have a mimosa tree at the edge of our yards and I have lots of mimosas trying to take over my yard.  They are hard to get rid of!

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

maryz

Sue, I love mimosa trees - John hated them.  We had one once, but he would never let me plant one again.   ;D

Sharon is still having trouble getting in. She says her password won't work any more and she can't get anything to work.  jane is in Yosemite and doesn't get enough internet to help.  Bubble, do you think you could help Sharon?

Margaret came over yesterday, with Matt, Claire, and their newest sheep-doodle, Rye.  He's already a big dog, and only 6 months old - and SO sweet.  Margaret stayed longer and planted some daylilies for me out in front of my deck.  I won't be able to see them from my chair, but I do love having them there.  It's a good place for them.

We were predicted to have pop-up storms yesterday - and I guess we did.  But none on my house.  After supper, we had lots of thunder and lots of dark clouds that I could see around.  But the sun was almost always shining over my place, and we got a few drops of rain - not enough to completely wet the deck.  So I've been out to water again this morning.

Hope y'all have a good week in store.

MaryZ, please ask Sharon to email me  ( with 'for S&F in subject line) and I'll try to help her.  She will probably need a new password.

maryz

Will do, Bubble - Thanks.

alpiner1

maryz we have a mimosa by the back steps  , I wait patiently every year for it to bloom & attract the hummingbirds .  The tree is 44 years old & still going strong .  We had a Mulberry tree that was planted by the birds & had it cut down . It was a good shade tree but the berries got tracked into the house & it made a mess .

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  My cleaning ladies just left and I have a very tidy and clean house for a while.  Also clean sheets on my bed which is a big help.  Lifting up the edge of my Queen Size mattress is just not do-able for me anymore.  I try to keep things tidy and picked up during the 2 weeks they are not here.

I'll probably mow the back yard when the grass dries out there.  I have no grass in the rest of the yard due to the large trees which shade out everything except my flower beds.  My gardenias have finished blooming but their foliage is still lovely, so that's nice.  I've read all except 2 of the books I checked out of the library last Friday, so will start on one of those this afternoon.

I am appalled at the news/pictures of migrant children separated from their parents.  I can't imagine how frightened the children as well as the parents must be.  There was an interesting editorial in this morning's paper written by Laura Bush about the children and how frightened they are.  She had an excellent summary of the problem and how inhumane it is to put young children in custody away from their parents.  Aren't all Americans descendants of immigrants?  My paternal ancestors came to Cape Cod in 1623 and eventually went down the Atlantic Coast and up the Mississippi River to establish farms in the territory along the Ohio and Kanawha rivers.  My maternal ancestors were living in the Ohio Valley and were farming prior to the American Revolution.  (I should have put these comments in the political forum, but didn't have the intestinal fortitude to read some of the anti-immigrant rhetoric!).

Enough griping for today.  I'm off to mow the grass in the back yard before it gets too hot.  Tim didn't come over yesterday because their elderly dog is on her last legs and he is staying home with her.  He has to carry her outside when she needs to go out.  Kris is having a hard time letting go.  Tim is trying to get as much work done at home as he can online.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

maryz

alpiner, I remember mulberry trees from when we lived in Texas, but they don't grow here.  They are messy (like mimosas).  I don't remember seeing hummingbirds around the mimosas, though.

Sue, sorry about Tim & Kris's dog.  As we all know, it's hard to lose them.  Enjoy your "tidy" house.

Sharon is obviously still having trouble getting in.  jane can't help right now, she's in Yosemite without much internet.  Bubble is trying to help, too.  Hope to see them soon.

Marilyn, when are you due back from Sun River?  It always takes a while to get back to "real life" after a vacation.

Nothing much going on around here.  My partner and I came in second (out of 10 pairs) at duplicate last night.
I think that may be the best we've done.

I'm back!!! Bubble came through for me and I was able to get on.  Isn't the internet amazing that someone in Israel could fix my problem in SC?!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, BUBBLE!!  You can't know how much I appreciate your help and Mary's in giving me your email address!

Any of you who are on FB and haven't connected within the last week, please "Friend" me.  I lost FB on my computer although I still had it on my phone.  Go figure.  I'm getting it pretty much back to normal, but there are a few people missing.  I think one of the problems I was having was that I had changed emails and not notified S & F's or FB.

Other than fussing with the computer, I have started going to the fitness center again--3x in the past week!! I have such a headache from my tight halo!! :D

It sounds like Sue has really been busy with gardening in this heat!  Please be careful. I'm so sorry  about Tim & Kris's dog. So hard to let go.

Mary, sounds like Margaret is really making your deck area pretty.  Again, thank you for connecting me with Bubble. Congrats on the bridge!

Alpiner, I took Femara and didn't have any side effects. Maybe that would work for you.  Discuss alternatives with your doctor of course.

Jane, Melanie & Sangmin went to Portland a couple years ago and loved it--especially the food & the cheeses. Sangmin liked the breweries and Melanie the wineries too.  Sounds like you're having a great time.  I've never been to Oregon, although I've been to WA and CA.

I hope Marilyn is having fun in Sun River.

John caught a cold just before Memorial Dad, then thought he was getting over it when suddenly his ears stopped up to the point he could hardly hear. He finally went to the Dr last Friday and was put on a strong antibiotic and he's doing better, but still not 100%.  This was really unusual for him.

Everyone stay healthy and out of this oppressive heat.  It was 96 here yesterday. No rain for about 3 days.

So glad to be back!  Sharon

so_P_bubble

ooops SharonE, I just got your PM and reading you still were not connected I only changed your address to gmail!
So now I don't know if you are still able to connect!  Let me know...

I have been off Anastrozle for a week , I see a big difference in how I feel , I'm still a bit wobbly . I had a diagnostic mammogram last week & it was benign !! I'm less crabby but tire easily . We are members of the San Diego Model T Ford Club & one of our yearly events is the Horseless Rodeo at the San Diego County Fair which is this weekend .  We play games with the Model T's in a horse arena & afterwards enjoy the fair  . I'm not going this year , it requires a lot of walking & I don't want to drag my oxygen concentrator along .  My husband plans to go & is hoping he can get someone to go along .

maryz

Hooray, Sharon is back!

And hooray for alpiner, too.  So glad you're feeling better and had a good mammogram!

We are  in San Francisco where it is, as usual this time of year, windy and chilly.  We spent two nights in Yosemite and no internet, so I’ve just read to catch up.

Heading home tomorrow, but it’ll be very late when we get home.

Jane

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I didn't get up until 8:30 this morning and took my time with breakfast, reading the paper, etc.  My back yard needs mowing again already due to the recent rains so I've been outside picking up downed limbs and other junk that needs to go down to the curb.  I'm not finished, but it's just too hot now to continue working outside.  Maybe I'll go out later and try to finish the  backyard mowing.  It doesn't take long as there is not much grass due to all the large oak trees back there.  However, my old pear tree has WAY too many pears and they are dropping everywhere, so before I can mow, I'll have to pick up the pears, too!

I'm thinking of fixing lunch in about an hour and lying down with a book after cleaning that up.  It's just too hot here in the afternoons to work outside.  Thank goodness my front yard doesn't have grass (due to the many trees) and I can let that go for a few days, but I need to prune some of the azaleas out front and also in the back yard.

Have a good day, Buddies.  Jane, I hope your trip home will be a safe one.  Your trip reminds me of the late summer Bob and I drove to my sister's home in Indiana--not far from Chicago.  We left our car at her home and road a local train back to Chicago.  Spent 3 days meandering around the city, then boarded a train and went across the northern states to Seattle where we spent almost a week, then to San Francisco for a reunion with Navy friends who lived near S.F. , down to a town in California (name forgotten now) where Bill was doing a graduate course in something to do with trees, then back to S.F. to catch a train to Denver--spent a week there, and back to Chicago to pick up our car at sister Linda's and drove home.  The weather was great out west, not too hot or rainy, but sunny and pleasant.

I'm off to the kitchen for another glass of water!
Sue

SharonE

Bubble, apparently all is well. I was able to post yesterday and it is letting me post again today. Computers are so touchy! The least little thing can mess it all up.  Thanks again!

Jane, it sounds like you've had a wonderful trip. I loved San Fran the one time I was there.  Hope you're having a safe trip home.

Sue, your plants all seem to require a lot of work. Unless you really like the pears, I'd get rid of it. But that's me. Bending over to pick things up is definitely not something I want to do.

I just got back from the fitness center. I go to see the osteo/arthritis dr on July 3. I really don't know what he can do for me, but I'll go the first time anyway.

Alpiner, glad you're feeling better now. Good decision not to go to the Model T thing this weekend.

Not much going on here.  Hi to everyone.  Sharon

maryz

I hate being awake at 3:30 a.m.!!
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SCFSue

Good morning, Sharon, and GOOD GRIEF, Mary!  I hate waking up in the middle of the night, too.  I hope you got back to sleep and/or have a nap planned to make up for it.

I've had breakfast, read the paper, showered/shampooed/dressed for bridge at Chik'n Salad Chik at 11:00.  We'll meet there and eat lunch, then play bridge.  Peggy is the hostess and she finds it more convenient for all of us to have it there--Peggy lives up at the lake now and it's a pretty long drive for the rest of us.  Olyne will pick me up about 10:55.  I hope Bonney gets there about that same time as she called me yesterday and asked me to split a large chicken salad sandwich with her.  I'm going to do that, plus order a cup of chicken soup and a small salad.  Bonney has lost her appetite and is losing weight.  I worry about her.

I'm caught up on laundry and my only chore today is to make my grocery list for tomorrow.  Tim will pick me up for lunch, Kroger, and the library.  Muffin, their dog is still hanging on--she's a large dog and not walking at all well.  Tim has to carry her outside for potty breaks.  I feel really bad for him, Kris, and Muffin.  She was just a tiny pup when Kris brought her home.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy!
Sue

jane

I'm home...we got in the door at 2:15 am or so.  The word exhausted doesn't begin to describe our near-zombie state. Days and airplane and motor coach rides from 5:30 am to 2:15 am is not for old people!! :idiot2:  Good to be home. Wonderful trip, but home in a driving rain and glad someone else was driving.

Now for laundry, laundry, laundry, and a MUCH NEEDED haircut I had to postpone because of Patricia's emergency surgery.

jane

maryz

jane, glad you're home safely.  Now rest up, so you can recall and enjoy your trip (and also tell us about it).

Sue, I hope you get some good cards this afternoon.

I haven't gotten back to sleep, and don't know if I'll get a nap in this afternoon or not.  Time will tell, I guess.  If not, I'm sure I'll sleep well tonight.  We're getting some much-needed rain today.  They're predicting an inch or more.
So far, in my gauge, there's about 0.25" - so I hope it continues.

Hi Gals..  I've had a busy morning--got gas, went to mini Walmart tobuy staples for the Food Pantry our church supports. Then took that to the church and got some help unloading it, picked up the items we had loaned the church for VBS, then went for my last eye check-up. She's happy with them andsaid if I hadn't gotten the multifocal lens, I would have had to have Rx glasses. My right eye is much weaker than the left.

Now I've been home and had lunch and caught up on the computer and now have to go to the grocery. Ugh!

Mary, I feel for you being awake in the middleof thenight.  Have you tried Tylenol PM? Sometimes that helps me.

Jane, You had a long difficult trip.  Rest should be the name of the game today.

Lori went down to Jamaica with a girlfriend to celebrate her birthday. Coming home, she got toMiami and her flight was delayed forever and she arrived home after being awake for 36 hours!  Then had to work the next day! I guess she had a good time. I've only had Messenger messages so far.

Hi to all.  I'm off to the grocery.  Sharon

I am feeling bad that I told my husband I wasn't going with him on Saturday to the fair for the Horseless Rodeo .  But thinking it over I know I made the right choice for me . After the event is over he will drive the Model T to a remote parking area & we would walk  about a mile back into the main part of the fair & have lunch . Afterward we would walk around some & then walk back to the Model T & leave . It will be crowded as usual with hardly any place to sit & rest . Even if I waited for him to park the Model T & walk back & later wait for him to drive back from where he parked the Model T , there would still be so much walking .  It tires me to even think about it .

Hi everyone....I haven't posted in a few days...nothing new with me..I'm going next week to have low lights to my hair...it's really grey....got tired of the upkeep....but here I go..doing it again..lol...really hot and dry here...the south part of Texas got rain.....but went around us....Hi to any reading ...have a great weekend...Darlene

alpiner1

My husband ( Norm ) had invited a young man & family to go with him to the fair but this afternoon he got an email from him saying they wouldn't be coming .  Norm & I talked it over  & I will go with him but we will leave right after the the event is over . So I won't have to do all that walking .  He was so happy , he didn't want to go alone .

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies and Welcome Home, Jane!  I hope you can get rested up and relax.  Vacations are fun, but can be exhausting.

Mary, I'm sorry about your sleepless night and hope you can catch a few cat naps during the day to help you catch up.  We've been having small amounts of rain several days a week and my backyard grass has been growing faster than I like.   I mowed it again on Tuesday and it could be mowed again today, but it's my grocery/lunch/library outing with Tim, so it'll have to wait until tomorrow at the earliest.  My front yard has so many large trees that grass is not a problem out there.

Sharon, you had more than a busy day yesterday.  I don't know how you keep going at what seems like a frantic pace.  I'm glad Lori finally made it home OK, but yuck on the long delay on getting home and having to stay awake to work the next day.

Darlene, hey, if you like the lowlights, more power to you!  We had rain yesterday just as we finished our bridge game at Chikn-Salad-Chik--and neither Olyne or I had brought an umbrella.  I got pretty wet when she let me out at my house.  I'm glad for the rain, but will have to mow again pretty soon because of it.

Alpiner, I'm sorry the outing with the young man's family didn't work out.  I can see that Norm would be disappointed, but it was nice that you were able to go with him.  I'm sure he appreciated it.  How are you feeling this morning?

I've made my grocery list and am ready to go whenever Tim gets here.  He usually works garage and yard sales on Friday if anything worthwhile is listed in the newspapers.  He didn't mention last night what is going on with Muffin (their 13 y.o. dog who is not well).  I know that's hard on both him and Kris.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

alpiner, glad that you and your husband were able to find a compromise solution that works for both of you.  (Wish the Congress were able to do that, too - sorry, that just slipped out. )   ::)

Sue, I got through the day with no naps, but I surely did sleep well last night.  Glad I had the alarm set so I could get to my swim class at the Y.

jane, we'll be looking forward to hearing about your trip when you get rested up - and get the laundry done. ::)

Sharon, glad you got some good news from the eye doc.  I'm with Sue - you need to slow down a bit.

We didn't get much more rain yesterday.  Today was supposed to be cloudy and rainy all day, but so far the sun is shining brightly in the very blue sky.  Oh, well.  Our swim class has been without a teacher on Mon and Fri for a couple of months (we do pretty well by ourselves, but would rather have a teacher).  This morning, we finally had an instructor!!  I don't know whether she's available for just the summer or for "permanent", but she was very good.  And we're delighted to have her.

Nothing planned for the weekend - I hope all have a good one!
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

jane

Alpiner...glad you and Norm found a compromise.

Sharon...good news on your eyes and lens choice.

Sue...your flowers must be breathtaking.

Mary...glad you have an instructor you like.

Darlene...stay cool and enjoy your new hair color.

The landscaper was here this morning to replace the three hydragenas [sp?]that just won't grow in our front. I tried to tell them it was too shady...but what does Jane know?!  Now we have three giant hostas.  OK, I guess; he also finally got the corner section finished.  Yard guy came, too, so we're all mowed up.  They said we've had 10 inches of rain in the last two weeks...and more to come this weekend and beginning of next week.

We enjoyed Portland...Rose test garden, Powell's book store, VooDoo doughnuts, down the coast and a ride on the dunes and then a jet boat ride on the Rogue River and lunch in a sort of wilderness area, then on to the giant Redwoods, Sacramento, Yosemite Park, and San Francisco and then flight home.

I did grocery shopping this morning since I wouldn't be able to do it on Saturday . I came home tired !  Son lives with us & he had 2 teeth extracted on Wednesday. He is on a soft diet & has taken care of that himself . So I just need to cook for Norm & I .
Norm's cousin who was like a brother passed yesterday , we are planning a quick trip to Oregon in a couple of weeks for the memorial . Norm & I met through this cousin . My best friend was the cousin's girlfriend for awhile , I'm going to invite her to the memorial , she may or may not want to go .  I have to change a dr.'s appt. for this but won't be able to until Monday .
