A late Good morning, Buddies!  I didn't wake up until 8:30 this morning and now it's 11:00 and I just finished breakfast and reading the morning paper.  The first thing I did was to hang my American flag outside and bring the paper in--and since then I've just been piddlin' around!

My dental appointment went well yesterday except for the dentist coming in after my cleaning to tell me that the x-ray showed that one of my fillings was wearing out and it should be replaced.  So far I haven't decided what I want to do about it.  Like Scarlett O'Hara, I just thought "tomorrow is another day!"

Last year on the 4th, I went outside at dark to watch the fireworks which are down hill from me, but only the last few were visible from here.  The trees in my neighborhood have grown a lot taller and although I could hear the noise, couldn't see anything until the last couple of shots.  So I will probably stay inside and watch the fireworks on TV.

I need to mow my back yard which is still wet as we had a lot of rain last night.  If I get around to that, I'll first have to pick up pears which have fallen out back.  I'm not in a mood to do much of anything today.  And if I do pick up the pears, I should peel and boil them so they are edible.  I'm not looking forward to that, either!  Can you tell that I am feeling particularly lazy today?

Have a nice Fourth, Every Buddy!
Sue

Happy Fourth, Babes!  Very hot here today...excessive heat warnings again ....and we'll be inside.  Going down to Gary and Kathy's for cookout about 4:30.  But we'll be inside to eat, I'm sure.  Already 87 at 10:00 am.

Big storms...10" of rain hit DesMoines a day or so ago...lots of flooding, obviously.  Only an inch or so here then.

Stay safe today.

jane

Marilyn, I'm so sorry your knees are  bothering you so much. Please, do tell us if you decide to try the CBD oil. Not sure if it is available here. There's been a lot of discussion in the legislatures of both N & S Carolina, but I'm not sure what the outcome was.  Voltaren gel helps a lot, but my primary does't want me using it because I take Voltaren orally. (diclofenac)

I was such a mess yesterday, I don't think I even posted.  I had a Dr's appt for osteoporosis at 10:15. I didn't get there till nearly 11:00 because I couldn't find the place. I was in the area, but it was tucked away behind things. They were very sweet to me and worked me in.  Oh, I also forgot to take all the paperwork I had filled out!  Traffic was horrendous coming home. I stopped to drop some stuff at the cleaners and found out they are closed all week! Picked up a sandwich at Arby's and went home to enhale it before going to my primary Dr's office to give a urine sample, as I'm sure I have a UTI.  I stopped 3 times for directions to the arthritis dr. and had to use their bathroom at each place. My brain just didn't work yesterday. I guess because I felt bad.  I won't find out from the dr. if I do have a UTI and get an antibiotic till Friday!!  Color me frazzled!  The dr. is going to give me an infusion of something like Exacto, similar to the oral meds but is only taken once a year. I guess I lost 7% of the density in one of my hips in 2 years, so he was very emphatic that I take something. I had been taking Evista all along, but it obviously wasn't doing the job.

Mary, you are indeed energetic this AM. I've emptied & loaded the DW, made out my shopping list for tomorrow, and put in a load of laundry.  John's going to take me out to dinner tonight, so I don't need to cook.  He is playing bridge today and they have a hot-dogs and whatever the members bring to eat before the games.

Jane, that is nice that you can get your MC cards laminated at the bank.  Mine is all fuffled from use.

Darlene,  I haven't had a chance to talk to my friend but I will.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCEDAY!!

Enjoy your cookout, Jane!  We were 97 yesterday and to be 95 today, 70% humidity!!  Yep, I'm inside!!   Sharon

Good morning, Sharon and whoever might be looking in.  I've been outside weeding--after one trug full of weeds, I've given up on that chore.  When the shade gets around to the back yard, I "might" go out there, pick up the pears which have fallen and give the old push mower one more go at the small amount of grass growing.  I should probably bring the unblemished pears inside and cook them until edible, but I will see how I feel about that later on this afternoon.

We're going to have really high temperatures, probably in the mid-90's today, so I'm planning on a quiet afternoon of reading--I've finished all my library books from last week, so will reread a favorite from my collection.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

Take it easy in the sun, Sue.

John has a vintage automatic pencil that was a prize for him in Toastmasters back in the 60's, Needless to say the lead is gone, the company no longer is in business, but would you believe I found leads on ebay for this vintage pencil?  Just bought it via Pay Pal. Hope it gets here in the 3 days promised.

I'm off to the grocery shortly.  May eat first. I have leftovers from our Italian dinner last night. The new restaurant is very bare bones and loud, but the food & service was good.  Nothing much on the docket after the grocery.

I hope you all had a nice 4th. Ours lacked much patriotic activities or fireworks but was still nice.  Hot (96, I think) with rain (I hope) this evening and then a cool down to the 80's.   Stay cool girls.  Sharon

SCFSue

Good morning, Sharon, and Every Buddy looking in.  I've cleaned up the kitchen and am showered and dressed for my Friday lunch out with Tim, plus our visit to Kroger and the library.  It's going to be another scorcher here today, but no rain predicted until tomorrow and/or Sunday.  I hope I can get my back yard mowed before it rains.  I have some laundry to fold and put away before Tim gets here, so hope everyone is feeling well and ready for a nice weekend.

Sue

SharonE

I just got back from the doctor's (for the UTI) and he faxed the Rx and I picked it up before coming home.  John is at bridge and tonight we are going to the home of one of our SS members for dinner, partly to honor one's birthday. He has lost his wife and son within the last year, so she wanted to have him for dinner.  She also invited another man from SS who has had his wife leave him and then this week his daughter's husband died. It should be a merry group!!  She is so good about taking food and having dinners, etc for people in need.

Sue, have a nice lunch and time with Tim.  Hope you can find lots of good library books.  I'm reading Danielle Steele's THE PRODIGAL SON, right now.

I guess everyone is hibernating and doesn't have much to contribute. It's too quiet in here!  :)

Have a nice weekend.  Sharon

Hi everyone..we are getting rain today...so a little cooler..I have a neice who is taking CBD oil...she said it really helped her arthritis pain.....found me a dress for the wedding...so that will be next Thursday....we will be going a day early...have a great weekend.....Darlene

Nothing doing around here - just really hot, with those pop-up showers.  We had a dandy this afternoon - about 1" of rain in 1/2 hour.  And that was just about the time Kate and Jean got here. Fortunately, it was just ending by the time they got here.  We're heading out in the morning for the beach.  We'll have internet, so I'll be checking in from there.

Sharon, glad you got your meds.  I've not had a full-blown UTI in years.  But as soon as I think I might be getting one, I take AZO, and that blocks it off.  And when you take that, they can't do the testing for antibiotics.  And then I obviously fend the problem off.

Darlene, glad you found a suitable dress.  I hope you have a  great time at your family wedding - a joyous time.  We have two grandchild weddings next year.

Sue, I hope you had a good trip this morning with Tim.  With your current weather, maybe it's time to think about getting somebody to tend to your yard.

Hugs to all the Buddies!

Tim and I had a good lunch at Niffer's, then went to Kroger, took the groceries home and put them away and went to the library.  I'm reading one of C. J. Box's Joe Pickett (the forest ranger) novels.  Some really bad bozos in this one!  I think Joe will be able to work it out OK, though--I'm getting close to the conclusion.

Sharon, I hope you enjoyed your dinner party this evening.

Darlene, hurray for finding a dress for the upcoming wedding!

Mary, I envy your trip to the beach.  I haven't been for a long time and Tim and Kris won't be going anytime soon as their dog is failing.  I know you'll have a great time and I hope the weather is fantastic while you're down there.

Sleep well, Buddies.
Sue

Hi Gals, yes we had a nice time last evening. They grilled steaks even though there was still some rain coming down.  We had a deluge about 5:00 but it was pretty much finished by 6:15.

I think I'm coming down with a cold. I had trouble breathing with my cpap on. My nose was stuffed up. Ended up taking off the cpap and later used some Flonase to help clear it up, but I feel like someone ran over me today.

Tomorrow is Melanie's 55th birthday!!  Not possible!

Darlene, congrats on finding a dress for the wedding.  I'm hoping I can lose enough weight to wear the one I bought for Joc's wedding, I really like it, but is that too gauche to wear it to her brother's wedding too?  The wedding isn't till next May, so I have a while to decide. Hope you have a great time at yours.

Mary, have fun at the beach. What beach are you going too?  I'm not a very beachy person. It's nice to walk on, but I don't like getting sand in everything and I'm a poor swimmer.  When we were in HH, we only went to the beach when we had out-of-town company visiting.

Sue glad you're stocked with food and books again.

Hi to Marilyn, Joy, Ginny, Jeanne, Alpiner and anyone I've forgotten.  Some of you haven't been in here for quite a while.  Sharon

jane

Weather much nicer here today.

I am having a lot of neck and shoulder pain, and then the spasms in my back started up.  Between the Flexeril and Tramadol, I feel so groggy.  Glad I see my ARNP on Tuesday.

Jane

maryz

Sharon, we go to the beach at Gulf Shores, AL, out in the area near Ft. Morgan at the mouth of Mobile Bay. I love to be in the water, but I just can't walk out there any more and would need help getting in and out of the water.  Plus getting up and down the stairs at the house.  So I haven't been to the water in several years.  But I love being on the water and listening to the surf and watching the weather over the water.   Plus the fact that for a week I get really fresh vegetables and fruit and don't eat anything that has walked on land.  We had shrimp and blue crabs for dinner tonight (we'll have shrimp, fish, and crawfish tomorrow night).

jane, sorry you're having such problems.  I hope the ARNP can get you some help.  I surely understand about the back thing.

Hugs to Sue, Darlene, Marilyn, Jeanne, alpiner, Ginny Ann, Joy, Bubble, and all our Buddies!

Morning, Babes!

Another lovely day here.

Mary, enjoy the beach with your family.

Jane

SharonE

Gorgeous day here today too--low 80's and sun.  However, I didn't go to church & SS. Between the UTI and a cold that started Fri night, I just didn't feel up to it. Slept in till almost 10:00. Had breakfast and read the paper cover to cover, something I rarely get time to do. Then got dressed, put in a load of  towels and now am popping in here.

Mary, I can understand the difficulty of getting out and into the water but I'm glad you enjoy watching and listening to it anyway. The food is what would draw me. I love seafood.  We have access to fresh SC shrimp and some crab, but the restaurants aren't like what we were used to in the HH area. Anyway, enjoy!

Jane, I'm so sorry you are hurting so much.  Arthritis is awful!  Thank God for Tramadol.  I have some Flexeril on hand but seldom ever take it since my stimulator implant.  I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Hi to all.  Sharon

SCFSue

Good almost afternoon, Buddies.  I was all dressed and ready to go to SS and Church when Olyne called to tell me her niece and family were here and she wouldn't be able to go.  So I hung up my church clothing and put on some shorts/tee shirt/and sneakers and went outside and pulled another trug of weeds.  Since then I've been reading a Baldacci novel which is keeping my interest.  Since it looks like more rain, I'll probably stay inside reading and/or watching TV today.

Sharon, if you like the dress, it still fits, and looks good on you, I say go for it!  It's so hard to find anything today that looks nice on we "mature" women and I doubt seriously if anyone except you will remember that was worn at Joc's wedding, except maybe Joc and her mother!  I'm sorry to hear about the UTI.

Mary, I am green with envy!  I hope the weather is lovely down there and you are enjoying the view from your condo.  Is there any warning of hurricane weather down there?  I hope not and that all the "young-uns" have a great time in the water.

Jane, hurray for the lovely day.  Any big plans for today?  I'm sorry for the pain and hope it clears up soon.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Thursday & Friday were nightmares !   Thursday we started out for the casino & had a flat tire on the freeway . Norm called AAA & the driver couldn't find us , we waited in 97F heat . After the tire was changed we went on to the casino , had lunch & played the slots for a bit .  When we left we went to the tire store to get a new tire , didn't get home until 6:30 p.m.
Friday it was a good thing I did 2 loads of laundry & went to the store to pick up some thing for dinner . I didn't feel like cooking so I bought baked chicken from the deli .  At 11:00 a.m. the power went off because of hard winds & a brush fire in town along the freeway . It was 106F weather , no a/c .  Norm called son at work & asked him to pick up bottled water . We have both a well & municipal water .  So no well water & didn't want to turn on the municipal water because its pressures is higher & would cause water pipes to leak .  Son came home with the water & 3 battery operated fans !
We had a dinner of the cold baked chicken & leftover garlic bread . The power came on again at 6:30 p.m.

maryz

alpiner, what a disaster!  I know you're glad to get the power back on.  I think I'd have been in the nearest motel.  Stay cool!

Sue, I know you love this area, too.  We're not in a condo, though.  We're way out near Fort Morgan, and have both sides of a big duplex rented.  Great fun!

jane, I hope you're feeling better now.

Sharon, glad you got to sleep late, and get a day in to "veg out".  Enjoy!

Tonight for supper we had snapper, flounder, shrimp, and crawfish - and tomato pie, salad, and fruit.  SO good!

Good morning, Buddies.  I'm waiting for a Village Friend (and church friend) to pick me up at 9:15 for a haircut at Great Clips.  It should only take about 15 minutes or less for the hair cut.  She's picked me up before and likes to run an errand or two while I'm getting my hair cut, so that's fine with me.

Alpiner, you had a tough day!  I'm glad your power is back on and you have your AC back on.  Intense heat can be devastating.  Stay inside and keep cool.

Mary, my mouth is already watering!  I'm imagining  fresh flounder, snapper, shrimp, and crawfish--and am VERY ENVIOUS!  Are all your girls and their families with you?  Have a great time and eat some of that sea food for me!

Alpiner, how close are those fires to you?  They look awful--and pictures on the weather channel are very scary this morning.  It sounds like Thursday and Friday were nightmares for you.  I hope the fires have been contained and won't come any closer.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

jane

Alpiner...what a day for you!

We had another doc appt for Ray this morning, and the endocrinologist is talking about Prolia for him.  He has to check insurance and see what coverage we might have....our copay could still be several thousand dollars for the shot each 6 months.  We'll see.

My body is hurting, and now the primary doc wants to see Ray again tomorrow...at 4:00!  He gave him a 'script for 10 mg of Prednisone for 3 days and then 5 mg for 3 days....but tomorrow for followup, already?  It makes NO sense to me.

Bahhhh humbug!

jane

SharonE

Alpiner, you did indeed  have an awful day.  Besides the tire problem to have the lights go out too with the AC.  Those temps are unbelievable!  So are the pictures. I've been seeing them on TV and so glad to be tucked safely in SC.

Mary, your food sounds scrumptious. I wish you could cyber express some to me!!

Sue, that's too bad that your fried couldn't take you to church, but at least you got some more weeds pulled.  Have you read any of the Jance books. I think it is JL Jance. She writes mysteries and even John liked it. The one I'm reading is Second Shift I think and about a cop who is having double knee replacement and while he is taking the pain drugs he sees his first homicide murder victim who tells him that he had promised her mom to find the killer 4o yrs ago ad hadn't, so they are re-opening the cold case.  Interesting.

Jane, that does sound strange about the prednisone. I think I would call either the Dr or the pharmacist to verify that dosage.  They decided not to put me on Prolia because it tends to increase muscle/joint pain and I sure donn't need that.  They are giving me a once a yr  IV infusion of Reclast--if the insurance approves it and I'm sure they will.  I may have a hefty co-pay though if it goes through my MC  D.

My cleaning girl was here today and changed the sheets, etc.  After she left, I took special recycling to the Lake House (a once a month collection) aaand then made myself go in and work out.  I didn't do a very hard work out though, but enough to feel I had done something.  I laid a meatloaf out to thaw and will have that ffor dinner.  Always an easy and good meal.  Have a nice evening gals.  Sharon

maryz

Just a quick book-note recommendation.  Have y'all read the series of books by Jan Karon?  They're so good - set in a small town in North Carolina.

Gonna pack you in refrigerated bubble wrap, alpiner!!!

jane

Yikes, Alpiner!  Sit down and let hubby wait on you. 8)

Sharon...the prednisone is the only thing that works with polymyalgia...and he says he's 95% better today...after two doses.  I think he should call that in...and not make a 90 mile roundtrip in rush hour traffic.

I'm off to my own doc appt.  Then the haircut this afternoon.  I didn't sleep well....too much joint pain...so today is a slug day for me.

jane

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  It's already 10:00 a.m. and I'm a sweaty mess.  I've been outback doing a little lawn mowing.  It's amazing how fast those weeds can grow!  I have bridge club here tomorrow and need to tidy up and get the card tables out.  I had my hair cut (or I should say "practically shaved!".  It will grow back quickly and of course shortens the washing and drying time.

Sharon, I think I've probably read almost everything J. A. Jance has written.  There are lots of familiar characters in her books and they are an easy read.  I'll have to check her books out again on Friday when Tim takes me to the library.

Jane, I agree that going back to the doctor again today is not at all convenient.  I hope that whatever the doctor prescribes helps immediately.  It seems strange to me that he couldn't have prescribed the needed prescription yesterday!  And the price for the Prolia sounds outrageous!!!!  I think the pharmaceutical companies are highway bandits!!!  It's good that Ray feels better today after the new medication.  I hope your doctor's appointment and haircut both go well.

Mary, I've read most of Jan Karon's books.  She is evidently popular with lots of female book lovers here in Auburn as the library has a long shelf filled with her books.  How is the weather at the beach--and it sounds like all the seafood if yummy!

Oops, Alpiner.  It sounds like you've had a pretty rough day.  I hope your finger heals quickly.

I need to get the bridge tables out and set up for tomorrow's bridge club here.  Take care, Every Buddy and have a nice day.

Sue

SharonE

Good morning, Gals.  I'm up, breakfasted, dressed and ready to go pick Bunny up from the groomer.  John took her in.  He thought he was going on to bridge, but it was cancelled. The church venue had something else scheduled and apparently didn't notify the director till this AM!  I am so glad to have Bunny groomed. I do it about every 6 weeks or so, but she seemed really grungy this time.  Probably from getting wet in all the rains.

Alpiner, I'm sorry about your finger. I've decided knives are not my friends anymore since I have a tremor, so I ask John to do any peeling and chopping. I had cut myself so many times that we decided that was the best solution.

Sue, you really do do a lot of outside work!  That's not my thing anymore.  Hope your bridge goes well.

Jane, I would definitely talk to the doctor about calling in prescriptions if they don't require an appt.  90 miles is a long trip.  I'm glad Ray is feeling so much better today though.  Now, they need to find something to help you!

Mary, I have read some of the Jan Karon books, but not lately. I'll have to look.

Marilyn, Jeanne, Ginny, Joy--WHERE ARE YOU?!  Haven't heard from you for a long time.

Back in the 90's here today.  The landscapers just finished mowing & trimming. Because of the holiday & rain, they missed last week.  Sharon

jane

I still don’t know by Ray had to go back in today.  He had the prescription, etc.  I think the office screwed up, and I don’t think Doc realized it was 90miles round trip.  Ray asked him, and he said he wanted to know what had happened before this, etc.  That doesn’t make sense either.  Ray has had recurring bouts of polymyalgia.

I found out why I’ve been hurting.  Inflammation is all over my body.  My other blood work as normal...but Sed Rate was “elevated.”  I know normal is 0-29 for women.  So I asked nurse on phone what mine was.  She said 93. So, prednisone for next 5 days and call when I get home.

We went out for supper tonight, and will pack up and hit the road tomorrow.  There’ll be lots of stops to get out and stretch.

Jane

SharonE

Jane, I hope the prednisone helps.  Have a good trip--and a safe one!  What is causing all the inflamation?  I've been hurting a lot too and just blaming it on the weather.  It iss 1 AM and I can't sleep, so in here for a while.  I'm glad Ray discussed the unnecessary trip with the dr.

Sharon
