Good morning, Buddies.  I set up my card tables yesterday afternoon and have had breakfast, peeled pears and put them on to cook, and am waiting for them to finish.  I have everything ready for bridge and think I will serve ice cream and cookies before we play today.  They will arrive about 1:00 and Merilyn must leave by 4:00 to check on her hubby, so it's best to get that out of the way.

I'll check back in later after bridge.  I hope everyone has a good day.  Special thoughts for Jane and Ray.  I hope the new meds help.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

We’re 1/2 way to my sister’s tonight.  Lots of road construction which slows us down, but we’ll get there tomorrow.
Jane

SCFSue

Hi Jane, it sounds like you're making good time.  Take care and enjoy your trip!  Safe travels.

Bridge was OK.  I was glad that Merilin felt well enough to play.  She had to leave at 4:00, but we were almost finished by then.  I had some good hands and some not so good, so didn't win any money.

I took some of the left over cookies to my young neighbor next door.  When he gets a chance, he wants to take me to his parent's farm for a visit.  They live at Smith's Station which is not too far from here.  I think we'll go in a couple of weeks.

My watch stopped today.  On Friday, I hope Tim will have time to take me to the jewelry store to get a new battery and maybe a new watch band.  I wore it once when I was mopping with Clorox and the finish on the underside was scratchy feeling, but I got used to it.

My PBS news station had problems this evening and I missed seeing their news program.  I think there must have been heavy rainstorms up in Birmingham about 6:00.

Sleep well, Buddies.
Sue

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I took my time getting out of bed this morning.  Some days are just not peppy ones anymore.  I am going outside shortly to pull a few more weeds in the flower bed under my windows, but I'm going to knock off ship's work ASAP.  It's just too hot out there to stay out very long.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

SharonE

Jane, glad you're well on your way and safely.  Have fun in OHio.

Sue, glad the bridge went well and also glad you're smart enough not to stay out in the heat too long!!  It was 97 here yesterday, but supposed to be a lot cooler today.

John left about 9:30 for Duke Eye Institute for his usual 3 months check-up.  He will stay over night and come home tomorrow. Since they dialate his eyes and he has trouble seeing in the dark, that's the best plan.  He has decided that there is no reason for me to go along if he does that, but I worry about him on the road.

I need to go to the grocery, but am going to wait till I get his call that he got there safely. Otherwise, no big plans for me.

Hope everyone is having a good day.  Sharon

maryz

Our week is winding down.  Some folks are leaving today and tomorrow, but the rental is up Saturday morning.  Our weather has been great - rain only one night.  The Gulf has been like a bathtub most of the day.
This morning, we've had the special treat we look forward to almost every year.  The Blue Angels (Navy flight team) practices along our beach area.  They are based at Pensacola, FL, just east of here, so they're out over the water along our beach, doing loops, rolls, etc.  It's such great fun to get to watch them.

Safe travels to all who are on the road - and hoping for good medical reports from everybody.

SharonE

Mary, I'm glad it has been a good week for you and to have the Blue Angels to cap it off!!  I've never seen them other than on TV, but they look spectacular there.  However, I'm glad Brian didn't go in for that kind of flying. Would have scared me silly.  Have a safe trip home.

SCFSue

Mary, I am glad you had pretty good weather for your vacation at the beach--and lots of fun with your family--and yummy food from the Gulf!  Have a nice trip back home and enjoy your memories.

Sharon, I've met several groups of Blue Angels over the years.  All were good lookin' but very cocky, so I wasn't too impressed.  They are great pilots as are ALL NAVY pilots, but the regulars like Bob weren't much for tooting their own horns.  They considered it their duty and responsibility, not a reason to brag.  It's lots of fun to watch the Blue Angels and the Air Force group (don't know what they call themselves) , though.  Let us know when John gets home safely.

I'm going to get a cold coke out and start one of my new library books.  Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

P.S.
Tim came over early and we had lunch at a favorite sandwich place, then went to the library and to Kroger.  I was home about 11:45 and after putting my groceries away settled down to read.  I just finished an Amanda Quick novel I'd started last night, so I'll try one of the Joe Pickett (western forest ranger) novels for the rest of the afternoon.

SharonE

Sue, I just started an Amanda Quick novel yesterday evening.  Great minds!  Brian and Bob are apparently similar in outlook.  That was why Brian requested the cargo plane rather than a fighter.  Or at least that was part of it.  The fighters are away from their families a lot more and he didn't want that, but he admitted that the little boy in him still wanted to fly fighters!  So glad he was mature enough not to choose them though.I can't remember what the AF group is called.

John got home about noon and doesn't have to go for another 5 months as his eyes were fine.  I haven't done much today. Just piddling around. I may go put in a load of wash and I have lamb chops laid out for dinner.  Sharon

maryz

Our folks have been leaving over yesterday and today.  The rest of us will leave tomorrow morning.
But the reservations are made for next year, so we know we'll be back.  Tonight is gumbo night.  Our buddy from Texas makes a roux at home, freezes it, and bring it with her, along with some cajun sausage.  We save any left-over goodies through the week (in the freezer) so there is lots of fresh seafood for the gumbo.  Yum!

Some of these folks we only see during this week, so it's always special.

It's hard to believe that summer is almost half-over.  Probably not the heat, though.

Happy midJuly, Buddies!

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I'm still not dressed, but I have finished breakfast and read the paper.  I stayed up pretty late to finish the book I started yesterday and I'm not planning on much outside except to go out back to pick up the pears which fell late yesterday and this morning.

Sharon, the Navy pilots who fly the type of airplane Bob flew had large crews when he first got his wings.  At that time, the enlisted crew did a lot of work with statistics and a computer or two.  Not long before Bob died, we were watching TV and that plane that the Chinese had somehow captured was finally released and only 4 or 5 men got out of the plane.  I said, Oh, my goodness!  They must have wounded or killed the rest of the crew.  Bob laughed and told me that they don't need big crews anymore as most of the work except for flying the plane is done by computers!  Lots of progress since our 20 years of Navy life.

Mary, you are probably on the road, now.  I am glad you had such a good time at the beach--and very envious of all the yummy seafood you've been eating!  I hope your trip back home is a pleasant one.  Let us know when you get there.

Safe travels to Jane and other Buddies who are traveling.  Stay out of the heat, Every Buddy!
Sue

SharonE

Sue, the C-17 that Brian flew was very computerized too.  They would redeive a DVD with directions and weather etc all on it and they just put it in the computer slot.  I'm sure it was more complicated than thaat, nbut that's what I understood.

I just came back from the FC where I did all my usual machines + 30 mins on the bike. I feel so virtuous!!  :)

It's about 89 and muggy here.  John went out this AM and did some yard work, weeking, trimming, cleaning and filling the birdbath and the sunflower seed feeder.  I'm calling him Papa bird now that he has taken over so many of my bird activities.  I fill the birdbath when I see it is down, but the hose is too heavy for me to drag around and blast it out clean it and then rinse and refill it.

I hope Mary is making it home safely and that Jane is in OHio now.  Sharon

maryz

Thanks for checking on me.  The girls got me home a little after 4 (ET).  We had left about 7:15 (CT), so it took us about 8 hours.  Mostly it was an easy trip.  There was one long slow-down just south of Birmingham, but other than that, no problems.  The only rain we had was just as we were leaving  the AL/GA border on I-59 - and just a few minutes.  Kate & Jean got me in the house, got a bathroom break, and were off to their homes in Nashville and W. Kentucky.  It was a great week, as usual; accommodations are reserved for next summer; my back is killing me; and I'm savoring the experience.  More later!

Good morning..got home yesterday...the wedding was beautiful...I would post a picture..but don't know how...it would have to be from my phone...anyone can help me ?  I am still tired..but getting ready for church...Hope everyone a blessed Sunday..Darlene

jane

CC...glad the wedding was beautiful.  Only way to post a picture is to have it at a third party place on the internet.  I used to be able to do it for people using Photobucket, but they have shut down their free Service, and the cost is now outrageous, so I can’t help anymore.

You could send us the photo in email.

Hot humid Sunday here in Ohio.  We had a wonderful day yesterday....got to see all the kids and grands and great grands of my sister...including the baby who is 3months old and up to the 34 yr old with the 6 yr old and 2 1/2 yr old twins.  We’re resting today and will leave for home tomorrow.

My steroid dosage is over, so hope the pain stays away until I can get home.  It made this trip bearable.

Jane

SharonE

Darlene, so glad the wedding was beautiful and that you had a good time.  You could get our emails from our proofiles to send us a picture.

Mary, I'm glad you're home safely. An 8 hr. trip is long for me anymore.  Now, rest up!

Jane, my goodness, you just arrived and now you're leaving!!  I am sure you enjoyed being with all the family, especially the little ones.

We're back from church and SS.  Rev. Bob, our teacher called us about 8:30 last night and told us he had a cold and could we teach the lesson. Naturally we said yes, but I don't like last minute things like that.  We split it up. I took the first half and then John finished up.  It was on the parable of the unjust judge and the persistent woman. Not my favorite parable, but the underlying meaning is to be persistent with praying and praying for things God will grant.  I brought all the prayers of the world for the Thai soccer players and coach into it as an example.  They received it well. I was glad though when it was over.

One nice thing was that as we were leaving, we saw the ex-wife of one of our SS members who had left him due to depression and mental health problems.  She looked happy and nice, so maybe leaving him was the right thing for her, even though it was hard on him at the time.

I've put a load in the laundry and will put another one in soon. Otherwise, I'm taking it easy.  My knees are bothering me today. Don't know if it is the weather or the exercise yesterday.

Marilyn, where are you. We haven't heard from you for a long time.  Jeanne, same for you and Ginny.  Sharon

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I've spent the last half hour peeling pears and they are now simmering on the stove.  I slept later this morning due to staying up to finish the Baldacci thriller I started yesterday after church.  Will Robie was the hero.  Pretty interesting reading.

I need to do a load of laundry today and am expecting Tim sometime soon as he usually checks up on me on Monday.  I'm caught up on weeding, so don't have to do that today, thank goodness.

Tim just left--we caught up on paperwork and had a nice chat and he replaced the filter in my refrigerator.  We started talking and I forgot to pay him for the filter, so need to make a note to myself to give it to him on Friday when we eat lunch, go shopping, and to the library.

Sharon, you are busy this morning.  When you get your laundry done, I hope you'll take it easy the rest of the day.

Mary, it sounds like your week at the beach was a great success.  And the trip home was pretty good, too.  Eight hours is a long time in the car, but I'm guessing you had some potty stops and maybe food breaks.  Now you need to rest up and nurse that back ache!  Your daughters are  certainly VERY good to you!

Darlene, I hope you'll get some pictures of the wedding posted.  I think if you e-mailed Bubble, she could help you post your pictures.  It sounds lovely and I know it must have been a wonderfully happy occasion.

Jane, your trip to visit your relatives sounds like a winner!  It's so nice to see the nephews, nieces, and all the kiddies.  I hope your trip home was uneventful and you are now resting comfortably at home.

Have a good day, Every Buddy, and stay out of the heat if you can.
Sue

I just got back from the FC, so I've been a good girl.  I also got John's DVD manual for his camera downlloaded and a map from Des Moines to Hubbard printed.  It's a pretty simple trip.  I finished the laundry from yesterday, but otherwise haven't done much.

Sue, Tim takes good care of you too!!   Have you tried freezing the cooked pears so that you don't wear out your taste for them?  Glad your book was good.  The Amanda Quick book I've been reading is pretty good too.  There's absolutely nothing on TV that I want to watch.

I hope Jane & Ray are having a good trip home.  I'm sure Mary is resting up!!

I'm here - and I'll try to write something tomorrow.

My husband told me this morning that he couldn't hear me breathing last night & was worried that I had died . He said he touched my arm & I moved . Scary huh ?

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I've just returned from trying to vote--and was turned away as there were no Democrats running in our district.  I'd walked down there which took about 10 minutes.  I wanted to vote because I had seen an article in yesterday's paper about a candidate from Tuskeegee who is an absolute do nothing, braggart--and when I showed my ID, my friend who was checking off eligible voters told me I couldn't vote as no Democrats were running in this primary.  I asked about the candidate from Tuskeegee and she said he's not in our district.  I'm afraid he will be elected in September.

Fortunately for me, my across the street neighbors had voted and brought me back uphill to home.  I don't see much of them now as John is disabled and stays inside most days and Peggy is busy with him.  It was nice to see them and we had a chance to chat a bit.

We may get more rain today--and I won't mind as I'm planning a quiet day inside.  My cleaning ladies came early this morning and all I have to do in the way of house work is put another load of laundry in the washer.

Alpiner, it sound like your husband is a light sleeper and is a very concerned hubby.  You are fortunate to still have him with you.  I've been a widow since 2002 and it can get really lonely at times.

Sharon, I have about 20 Amanda Quick paperbacks and when I finish my library books, I usually have one I'll reread as I can't stand an afternoon without a book to read!  Another favorite author is Susan Elizabeth Phillips and I have lots of hers, too.  When is John leaving?

Mary, take it easy today and try to rest up.  I'm sure an 8 hour trip in the car must have been tiring.  I do try to lie down every afternoon with a book.  At 81, I just don't have the oomph to work outside after lunch when it's in the 90's!

I've changed into my work clothes, but after the walk down to the voting place, I'm not in the mood for much else today!

Have a nice day, Buddies.  Jane, are you home yet?
Sue

SCFSue    Norm is 82 , the dr. told him he is a 50 year old trapped in an 80 year old body !  He is  still very active , his mind is sharp .  He has 3 Model T Fords which her keeps in running order & we are in 3 parades a year !!  There currently is a club member's Model T in our garage that Norm is working on . He isn't happy unless he has grease under his finger nails !

maryz

alpiner, obviously, your Norm is a keeper.   :smitten:

Sue, it doesn't matter about your age, you shouldn't be out working in theI' yard in 90* heat.  I'm planning to "early vote" in our party primary tomorrow.  We also have a County-office general election at this time, so we can get two ballots - one primary and one general.  The county officials go to the various senior facilities before early voting starts to provide voting for seniors who can't get out.  I've voted here since I moved, but that was done last week while I was gone.  So I'll be going to the closest early-voting site tomorrow.

I'm pretty much rested up - just lazy now.  I played duplicate last night - we came in about the middle, so no MP.
Did I tell you the girls dyed my hair purple again this year?  It's pretty much gotten to be a "tradition".  They did just the last half-inch on top this time, but it's permanent.  My hair grows quickly, though, and I get it cut every three weeks, so it won't take too long to grow out.  In the meantime, everybody on staff here loves it, and has made a point of telling me about it.  In any case, it's just for fun.

Nothing else exciting going on around here.

Hugs to all the Buddies - Stay cool!

Hi, Gals...

Glad you were breathing, Alpiner ! :coolsmiley:

We're home and it's good to be here.  We've been through the mail and now I'll have to catch up with our financial bookkeeping...and the never-ending Laundry, of course.

I'm going to go play bridge tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to that.

It's still hot and humid here and it's supposed to cool down....hope so.

Hi Alpiner, Mary, and Welcome Home, Jane!

I've been reading and watching TV--two Hallmark movies, which I've seen several times.  I think we're going to have a new one on Saturday evening.

I'm off to bed soon to read.  Nothing going on here tomorrow except a bit of yard work.  My cleaning ladies were here this morning, so things are ship shape here for a while!

Sleep well, Buddies.
Sue

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I need to go outside for a bit of weed pulling, but don't plan to stay out there very long.  Most of my weeds are oak and pine seedlings as I have large trees of both species in my yard.  I also have mimosa trees--that I can't stand and have a hard time keeping ahead of them.  When I moved here, my neighbor on the left had a large mimosa tree that sent lots of blooms into my yard and it's mighty hard to get rid of them!

Not much else to report.  I'm playing bridge tomorrow and am looking forward to that.  All of the players except Terri are church friends.  I think Terri or Bonney will pick me up.

I need to get outside before it gets up into the high 90's.  Have a good day, Every Buddy.
Sue

SharonE

Wow, Mary, purple hair!!  Your girls must be fun, however, I would draw a line on purple hair for myself!

Alpiner, glad you were okay!  Have you ever had a sleep study?  I use a cpap machine.

Sue, your yard must be pristine with all the weeds you pull out.  I've never been around a mimosa tree but sure wouldn't like its seedlings in my yard.  Enjoy your clean house and your bridge tomorrow.

Welcome back, Jane.  It's always a hassle to get everything back to normal after a trip.  John leaves Sunday for Iowa to visit his sisters.

I don't have any plans for the rest of this weekd.  Not even a dr's appt!!    Stay cool everyone.  Brian's AC went out this week and he's still waiting for a replacement!  Their temps are around 90 also.  Ugh.    Sharon

maryz

Sharon, before the hair color would wash out in a few washes.  I think this time it's permanent, but it's just the tips, and my hair grows fast.  It should be gone in a month or so.  It's just for fun.  Sounds like you're going to have some good "me" time coming up.  I hope John has a safe trip.  It's be good for him to spend some special time with his sisters, too.  My John had gotten so close to his sister as they got older - a special bond.

jane, I hope you're getting rested up.  Sometimes the short, quick trips are harder on us than the longer ones.

I woke up about 4:30 this morning, and didn't really get back to sleep until time to get up to go to swimming.  After that, I went for my mani/pedi.  Then I "early-voted" in our primary/general election (the main election day is the first Tuesday in August).  Home for lunch, and then a killer nap.  I've decided I don't want what they're serving for dinner tonight, so I've gone to "soft clothes" and will have some soup here.

alpiner, Darlene, Marilyn, Joy, Ginny Ann and all the Buddies - have a good afternoon and evening.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

jane

Hey, Purple Mary!  Love it!!

I had a good time at bridge today.  My cards were awful, but it's still a good time.

We're watering since we haven't had rain since last Saturday.  I need to get my hanging baskets back up, too.

SCFSue

I'm dressed early and ready for bridge at 12:30 at Dorothy's.  I'd left a phone message for Teri in hopes she could pick me up, but right after that Bonney called and said she'd be coming up Dean Road (which is only a few blocks from me) and would like to pick me up.  So I called Teri back and left another message that Bonney is picking me up.  I hope she listens to her messages when she gets home.  She was probably at Mass this morning.

I went outside about 8:30 and cut down another mimosa.  I need to go back out there and dig up the roots, but will wait until after a rain as the soil should be easier to remove.

I've saved 2 slices of pizza for my lunch and will have that around 11:00.  Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue
