Marilyn, good luck with your PT - it can be so helpful, especially if it helps you get further treatment and/or diagnosis.  Also good luck with the legal wrangles.  I hope your courthouse folks are as helpful as mine were.

Sharon, I think an HOA would drive me bonkers.  General stuff I understand, but it sounds like yours is getting WAY too picky.  Did I miss something?  Where are you going on your trip?

Sue, I hope you got the yard work done that you wanted to do.  We were cloudy and drizzly most of the day, so our temps stayed in the 80s.  The rain was spotty, though, and I didn't get nearly as much as some areas did.  It's supposed to be the same tomorrow.

jane, hope you got your internet squared away.

I was home and in soft clothes all day today, except for going up for lunch.  Dinner tonight was "family dinner" night with a luau theme.  The family dinners are usually very crowded and chaotic, so I've always opted out.
I don't have any local family in any case, so I don't think I'm missing anything.  Unexplained mystery, though -the cleaning gal didn't do our floor's apartments today.  Thursday is our usual day.  Nobody else knows what happens either.  I'll see what I can find out tomorrow.

Hugs to all the Buddies!

Mary, I'm flying up to Minneapolis to visit my granddaughter, Jocelyne and meet her youngest for the first time.  He is only 10 months old, but I really miss having seen him as a baby. His name is Liam. His big (3 yr old) brother is Harrison.  They weren't able to come to the Memorial Day gathering, so I decided I would go up.  After all was arranged, I found out that they all are coming down to Melanie's for Thanksgiving & so is most everyone else including us.  Oh well, this way I get some one on one time with them all and get to know her husband, Henry, better.  I leave here tomorrow at noon and get back about noon on Monday. Since both of them work, a short visit made the best sense.

I agree that the HOA is getting awfully picky, but that's what you get in a planned community.  Gotta go fix dinner.  Sharon

maryz

Sharon, how great to get that one-on-one time.  When you have large families, like you and I do, they usually come in bunches.  That's great, but the individual time is, too.  We never lived in the same time with our grands and mostly saw them in bunches.  So we made a point of doing special trips with just one grand when they were about 12-14.  All were great experiences and all different.  Enjoy your visit.

Internet guy showed up at 4:45...and modem turns out to be ok....but they have to bring new lines from across the street and he didn’t have a ladder tall enough...so they’re to be back tomorrow...a cherry picker bucket thing, I guess.

Jane

SharonE

Mary, when our grands were little, they didn't live too far away, so we saw them frequently, and of course, Jonathan & Lori lived with us from the time he was 5 mos to 4 yrs after her divorce and while she went to college, so we have always been close to him.  When we moved to HH, we had each of the grands down for a week when they were about 14 too.

Jane, I do hope the guy gets your internet up and running soon.

Brian and Traecy & boys are back from their vacation and still don't have AC. Maybe Monday!

Have a good weekend everyone.  I'm ready to leave.  Sharon

jane

I don't know if this is any faster or not. The "guy" was up in a lift truck this morning when I left for an appt with my Nurse Practitioner.  I had so much pain last night, I didn't get to sleep until 2:00 am...even with tramadol and a tylenol.  I was fortunate that she had an opening this morning.

She sent me for xrays on my neck, shoulders and hips.  She said the rheumatologist would want those anyway.  And, another blood test.  She did give me 3 days of prednisone.  She doesn't want me to have any more so when I see the rheumatologist they'll see the extent of my pain, etc.  Oh goody!  I forgot to ask her about the CBD (?) oil Mary's using.

jane

maryz

jane, I'm so sorry about your pain.  We all understand.  I hope you get a few days' relief with the prednisone.

I went to swimming this morning, but not to coffee.  It was spitting a little rain when I left this morning, lightly raining when I left the Y.  And at one point on my way home, I considered pulling off the road, it was raining so hard. Fortunately the heavy rains are usually spotty, and I soon drove out of it.  But when I pulled into my parking place at home, it was raining so hard, I had to wait in my car for a few minutes before it eased up enough to get to the door.  And in those 2-3 hours, there had been 2" of rain at my place!  Now, late afternoon, the sun is shining brightly.

We came in about the middle at bridge this afternoon, but did get 0.10 MP.  Nothing planned for the weekend.  I hope Sharon has a good time on her visit.  Hugs to all the Buddies!

Good morning, Buddies.  I've been up but not dressed yet for quite a while.  Just not able to get up to "snuff" so far this morning.  As soon as I dress I need to go out back and pick up more pears so that I can mow the back yard if the grass ever gets dry.  We've had more rain this summer than we've had since we moved back to Alabama in 1979.    I don't have grass in the front--just shrubs and flowering bushes.  Too many large oak trees out there--and it's a relief to not have to mow that!

Mary, I hope you solved the mystery of the missing cleaning lady.  My cleaning service only comes every 2 weeks, so I try to keep things tidy (picked up and hidden!) during the time they aren't here.  They change my sheets, dust furniture (quickly) and damp mop all the floors.  I have hardwood floors in every room except for tile in both bath rooms which they mop.  I'm most grateful for the sheet changing as I have a very heavy mattress on a queen size bed and it's not easy to change the sheets by myself.  Congratulations on the new Master Points!

Sharon, your trip to Joc's family sounds like a winner.  I know you'd like to see them more often, but I guess lots of us have the same problem of distance.  Of course my grandsons are in college now and I'm not traveling with them anymore and I miss that.  Stacie is planning a big family get together (according to Tim) at the beach over Thanksgiving, so I guess we'll see them then.

Jane, I'm sorry about the pain, too.  Hopefully the x-rays and blood test will give your doctors a clue to what is going on and how to deal with it.  Keep us posted, please.

Happy Saturday, Every Buddy!

jane

I got a call on my blood work and xrays....just what you'd expect....arthritis....and some severe degenerative disk disease at some C whatever locations.  I guess that's radiology talk for "you got old spine bones, Lady!"The SED rate is down slightly from 93, the 71 to 67.  The CRP is also down from 31.9 to 13.3  so they're moving in the right direction.  All of my other blood work...and she took 3-4 vials was within normal range.

I LOVE having all these results readily available in my Health Chart from my provider.  It gives what the test is, what my number is and then what the range is. I also have the radiologist report on the numerous xrays that were taken.  All done Friday afternoon, and results called to me Friday night and on my online chart already.  That's MUCH better info about my own health than we used to get.

I feel so much better already....that 60 mg of prednisone is the reason, I'm sure.  It decreases, of course, over the next 5-6 days...but is a miracle for polymyalgia.

HOT here.  Tonight is the "Car Cruise"....people show off their restored, old or new cars...in a parade  around the area, ending up at the Fairgrounds.  Car Show there tomorrow, then.  Since we're right on the route, our Friday Night friends pushed it to tonight, and they're coming here and we'll watch from the yard on lawn chairs and have snacks, and then go out for dinner and back here for dessert.

Have I showed you one of our old cars ?

What a great car, alpiner!  I know y'all have gotten a lot of enjoyment from the activities associated with the antiques.

jane, glad you've gotten some relief from the prednisone.  It is a miracle drug, for sure.  And I agree, the medical web sites with the immediate results are great.  I can get them from my primary care doc, too.

Sue, we've had lots of rain this year, too.  I've only had to water my deck plants a couple of times so far this summer.

Still just a quiet weekend around here.  I'm getting more knitting done and watching some recorded TV programs.

Happy weekend, Buddies!

jane

Alpine....wow...that’s a beautiful car!

The car cruise here had only a few of the real oldies.  Many more Mustangs, Chevys, etc from the 50s  and 60s.

Mary...enjoy the knitting.  Is the CBD oil helping?  I have not been able to knit because of my hands.

Jane

maryz

jane, I think it might be helping.  It comes in a bottle with a dropper.  You put a dropper-full under your tongue.  My friends doctor suggested she use it 3 times a day, and I've increased to that dosage.  As they say, I'm "cautiously optimistic".  What I've been hearing from others and from docs is "give it a try".
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

jane

HURRAH for good results.  The Prednisone, of course, is working wonderfully....but I know I can't be on it longterm...at least not at these levels.  Somehow I got my blood work goofed up.  On Friday, when I saw my NP, she sent me to the hospital for all those xrays and more blood work...like 4 vials full.  When I registered, the woman said an order was there from Wed. for fasting blood work.  I knew nothing about that, though Janny had said she wanted liver and kidney function levels before I started the prednisone, so they could see how the prednisone was reacting in my old body.  So, I started it on Saturday morning as I was directed with the prednisone.  Sat. pm in the mail, I get a note from her Nurse dated Wed. I was to have a fasting blood draw.  Oops...too late on Sat. afternoon and nothing today, so tomorrow morning is the best I can do.  I don't know why that is dated on Wed.

At this point, I'm at "whatever."

Last night went well, but it was a long afternoon....we had two couples over for the Car Cruise watching from our front yard at 4:45 and cheese and crackers and snacks and light refreshments...ice tea, lemonade, rootbeer, etc.  Then about 6:30 we all headed to a restaurant for supper...and back to our house for dessert and wine for the other 5. It was about 9:30 when everyone left.

Today has been declared....by ME.....Jane Day.  This is jane doing her nails and relaxing and reading and not doing a lick of work.  The laundry can wait until tomorrow.   :2funny:

Yep, it’s been a good day.  This afternoon we went with friends to our microbrewery.  Fellas had stouts and Kathy had cream soda and I had root beer.  We’re really heavy drinkers, she and I!  Then we crossed the street and watched the people tubing through the white water run.  Lots of families...some picknicking, etc

Hope you all had a relaxing Sunday.

 Mary....Margaret’s surgery is tomorrow?

Marilyn

Thursday I was givi8ne a 5 lb bag of   garlic cloves. So today I've been roasting them and putting them in the Freezer. I also put up abother batch of jelly after church, this time is is Boysenberry Strawberry combo.I am sitting here with the smell of garlicon my breath from what I have eaten and just fin ished a little glass of wine, about 2ozs.

Sherry I noticed yesterday that Apothic has a new wine out it is the Smooth Red Blend. The other is the Winemakers Blend of Cabernet, Syrah and Merlot, I was unable to read the dark label on the Smooth Blend.

I will be having my first cataract surgery on Nov. 38 and the second on Jan3.

maryz

Marilyn, YUM on the garlic!  I do love it, too.

Yes, jane, Margaret's surgery is tomorrow.  She says she's supposed to be at the hospital at 7 a.m., and hasn't been told how long the surgery is expected to take.  They're on Central Time, too, so I guess it'll be noon or later before I hear anything.

Good morning, Buddies.  So far, I've had breakfast, read the paper, and brought the empty trash containers back up the driveway.  I'm moving pretty slowly this morning.  I stayed up until after Doc Martin on PBS and then read until about midnight.  Any other Doc Martin fans here?  He's such a Dilbert about some things, but a good doctor despite his gruffness. In this episode, his Auntie Joan had died (no funeral, so I'm wondering if perhaps the actress herself might have died).  He was thrilled about the baby, but honestly I think he was carrying a dummy when he had to care for it--he sure didn't hold it very  well.

Tim just left.  He always comes by on Mondays to check on me.  We went over a bit of paperwork and chatted for a while.  He was off to check on a new part for his truck, so is hopeful of getting it fixed soon.  I think the part was ordered some time last week.

Jane, I'm glad the prednisone has helped.  I think "Jane Day" is a great idea and hope you enjoyed every minute of it.  Keep us posted on your condition--I hope the pain is now in the past!

Marilyn, you've been busy in your kitchen.  How long will it take you to use 5 pounds of garlic?  I guess if it's frozen, you can use it whenever you wish.  I know you'll be happy after your cataract surgery.  I had mine done in 2 weeks.  One for the first eye and another for the second.  My eye doctor was taking his family to Europe for a 2 week trip and wanted to get me and some other patients finished before he left.

Mary, thoughts and prayers for Margaret's successful surgery.  Let us know as soon as you hear from her about the results.  I know you must be anxious to get the results.

Alpiner, thanks for posting the picture of you, hubby, and the beautiful car.  What fun you must have with it!

Not much else to report today, Buddies.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Sue

Marilyn

After the garlic was roasted it was only 2.5 quart ziploc bags.  So it is really condensed  compared to the original 5 lbs.

maryz

I got a text from Matt, and Margaret was in Recovery, waiting for discharge.  All went well.  I'll try to talk to her this evening.  Thanks for all the concern.

Good retired day today....going to Dbq to meet Iowa/TX friends for our Aug. lunch.  Then home to pack for long weekend in Northern Wisc with nephew and wife.  We'll go up over two days; come home Monday.  They warned us to avoid Fri-Sun as the weekenders going to their cabins up there makes traffic nasty.

Have a good Tuesday!

Good morning, Jane and Every Buddy looking in.  My cleaning ladies were here this morning and my house is spic and span for a few days.  I keep it tidy, but am afraid I don't clean under heavy stuff and count on them to pick up the slack.  I have the sheets in the dryer and hope to get out back to mow shortly.

Jane, enjoy your lunch with the Iowa/Texas friends.  Also the long weekend in Northern Wisconsin.  Hopefully it will be cool and pleasant weather while you're up there.

Not much else going on here.  I started a David Baldacci murder mystery this morning and will try to help King and Maxwell solve the murder this afternoon.  Baldacci is one of my favorites--but I've read almost all of them now.  Tim has pointed me in the direction of several other authors who write mysteries so I've been trying some of them.

Have a happy Tuesday, Every Buddy.  Mary, I'm glad to hear that the news about Margaret was good.  Keep us posted.

Sue

SharonE

Hello, Buddies! I'm home! Actually I got home about noon yesterday, but since I had to get up at 3:30 AM to fly out at 6:45, I was worthless the rest of the day and kept dozing off. I'll try to remember all the posts.

Alpiner, your antique car really looks like fun.  My son has a 68 Camaro that he has restored and takes to various events when he can.

Mary, I'm so glad to hear that Margaret's surgery went well. Nice that you've had enough rain to not need to water the flowers much, but not much fun getting out in it.

Jane, I'm so sorry you're having so much pain. I'm glad they put you on some prednisone to give you a break till you see the rheumatologist.  I have the online portal for my medical group too. It's wonderful to be able to email him when necessary, to read the results of all the tests, and to read his notes.  My ortho also has a portal that I use. Very convenient.

Sue, glad you aren't doing more weeding and picking up of pears. The mowing sounds easier since it's a small area.

Marilyn, you have been really busy in the kitchen.  I bet Joc would love some of your roasted garlic!  They use a lot of it since they do a lot of Asian cooking.  Had a delicious grilled salmon with a ginger/garlic sauce on Sat.

My trip was wonderful, flights all on time, the little ones were such fun, but so energetic!  Particularly the 3 yr old.  He can count to 15, knows his ABC's, most of the old nursery songs and is learning some words in Chinese and Spanish.  The 9-month old is adorable but has reached the age that he really only wants to be held by Mommy or Daddy.  He let me hold him a couple times but was a little uncomfortable. By the time I left he started smiling at me and playing peek-a-boo. He can stand up but is a few weeks from walking, I think. He crawls everywhere, even up and down 3 steps between levels.  We took them to 2 playgrounds, one of which had a water section where they could run in and out of spurting water. They had a ball.  I also read them several books and played some easy table games.  All in all, it was great. My only problem was fatigue. Joc & Henry were very good about parking close to things and being sure there were benches for me nearby, but I still got really tired.  They were so happy that I had come up though.

Now I need to catch up on laundry. I slept in this morning. Sharon

jane

Sharon....what a great visit with Joc and her family!

We had a delightful lunch with Tx-IA friends.  They brought us info about a two day trip on the Mississippi River.  It’s just from LeCLAIRE near Davenport to Dbq...overnight at a hotel there on the river and back to LeCLAIRE on Monday.  I called and asked to be on the list and will send out our check.  It’s basically a cruise and eat trip for two days.  Mary did a long version of this, but this should be a nice 2 day break at the end of Sept.

Tomorrow off to N. Wisc.  Be back Monday!

Jane

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I've had breakfast and read the paper and am now ready to work on my Sunday School lesson for this up-coming Sunday.  I haven't used my printer in ages, so need to see if it will work for me.  I have a student list of about 25 students, but don't expect that many to attend every time.  However, I will only teach about every 3rd week, so will find out.  Lots of siblings in the class because it includes grades 3-5.  I need to print at least 1, perhaps 2 of the work sheets the curriculum guide has for class use.

This has me in a nervous tizzy--I'm worried that my printer won't work and a jillion other things.  Plus one of the students is a behavior problem (and the daughter of one of Tim's old roommates) and I'm expecting a bit of nonsense from her.  I  plan to get her to be my "helper" (pass out papers, etc.) and hope that works.

I'm off to see if my printer will work.  Sharon, your trip sounds like lots of fun--I'm so glad you could go.  Jane, have a great trip and I hope the weather is fantastic!

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

Good morning all...we were blessed with rain for couple days...some road closures for one day....Glad Margaret has her surgery over and doing well....My brother who lives here is having to get B12 injects for awhile..so I'm giving them to him...Hi to everyone..hope you have a great day..Darlene

SharonE

Darlene, a lot of people need those injections for energy. Some just don't absorb B12 from pills.  Glad you got some rain.

Jane, your trip sounds like fun. Like Sue said, I hope you have great weather.

Sue, time to chill out!  Check your printer and then you can relax.  The church could probably print things for you if need be.  I hope your class turns out to be a good one.  Using the problem child as a helper is a good idea.

We're waiting for the landscaper to come and hoping he can do the flowerbed incorporating the birdbath and birdfeeder as well as all the pruning and replacing 2 bushes that we already have him scheduled for.  It never ends.  Sharon
