Sue...I admire you for sticking it out on the children's class.  I'm afraid I wouldn't be so generous.  Those of us who've taught many years know what works and what doesn't...and it sounds like this "plan" won't work.

So very humid here...I'm sure more storms are coming.  We walked a mile this morning, but the walk home was hard with the humidity.

I made a trip to WalMart for a couple things and made a 24 hour cole slaw this morning for tomorrow.  Gary and Kathy are coming up for brats, burgers, cole slaw and corn on the cob.  Simple and easy supper for Labor Day.

jane

jane

Same old story here.....thunderstorms and rain, rain, rain.

Marilyn

Good morning everyone. I am hoping to get a new report on Roger. Ronnie is out here but he is with my daughter and I dont think  ronnie will take my call  with her around. Nio one wants to hear her wrath.

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  Tim has already been here this morning.  He had some extra time, so cut my lorapetalum way back.  It's on the high slope beside my driveway and I am not tall enough to take care of that.  I carried all the limbs he was cutting down to my curb.  Because today is Labor Day, we won't have trash pick up until tomorrow.  My plan for the rest of the day is to fix and eat lunch and after cleaning up the kitchen, read one of my new library books.

Marilyn, my prayers include you, Roger, and his family.  I know you are worried and I'm so sorry that your daughter is being such a pill.  Carrying a grudge against a family member can be so damaging to that person as well as the people he/she is angry with.

Jane, I'm expecting more rain today, too.  We've had so much I'm ready to quack like a duck!  I know it's probably good for my azaleas, but so many of the shrubs have grown way too tall.  Thank goodness Tim had some time this morning to cut the lorapetalum back.

Sharon, it's interesting that your organist's husband is an Anglican priest.  I was an Episcopalian
before Bob and I married.  He was a Presbyterian and tried going to church with me, but I could see that he was uncomfortable, so when we lived where there were Presbyterian churches we joined one.  In our two tours at Brunswick, Maine, though, there were no Presbyterian churches and we joined a Congregational one and also in Albuquerque because we lived in the Northwest heights and the large Presby church was way downtown by way of the freeway.  Our boys were in Junior high and high school and they rode their bikes to the church near us for youth activities.  Now none of them every go to church.  I expect the only time when they attend a church service now is for a wedding and of course they'll all go to my funeral (at least I hope so!)

Hi to Mary, Joy, and Every Buddy looking in.  I've been looking for GinnyAnn's phone # and if I find it, I'll try to call her and will let you know if I reach her.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.  I need to get outside and put my American flag on the pole!
Sue

SharonE

Keep us posted, Marilyn.

Jane, sounds like an easy fun get together for Labor Day.

I did something dumb a wh
ile ago and am lucky all that was hurt was my pride.  As I mentioned yesterday, I am painting a small bookcase to go in my den. I was in the garage.  I got the first coat on and was closing things up while waiting for it to dry. I was sitting on my garden stool that I use for planting pots and reached sideways to get something and it tipped me over onto the floor.  Once I got on the floor, I silmply could not get up on my knees or get my feet under me to stand. I triedfor almost a half hour and then heard the neighbors return and yelled to them. They came running over and helped me get up, but believe me, it wasn't easy. I felt so dumb, but I was lucky. The stool was only about 15" high, so I didn't fall far.  When I do the next coat, I'm going to make sure John is home or that I have my cell phone with me.  So dumb.  I will sure be careful using that stool in the future for anything!

Nothing planned here till the paint dries and John gets home to be on hand!  I baked a meatloaf last night and had plenty left, so no cooking tonight.  Happy Labor Day to all.  Sharon

maryz

Hang in there, Marilyn!

Sue, enjoy your afternoon of reading.

Sharon, shame on you!  I am SO sorry, and do understand.  When I fell last May, it was such a struggle getting up.  Fortunately, I was close enough to get hold of something sturdy I could hold on to and pull up.  And ALWAYS keep your phone with you.  I did, but didn't want to call for help.  I knew they'd have to call an ambulance and send me to the hospital.

I had a nice BBQ lunch out with the gal who used to be our Silver Sneakers instructor.  She's a nice gal, and we'd been trying to get together.  It was nice to get a chance to chat.  Nothing else going on today, except bridge tonight.

Happy Labor Day, Buddies!

JeanneP

Well I just wrote a long one and it has vanished. I think that Sue and I hit the button with our replies at the same time. It came up red saying for me to send again but it had vanished.
Now going to head out in this 90 deg day as I have to get some groceries in. Hope the store not to busy.

Looks like some states having lots of rain today. We had heat but at least all that is going on for the Sept. 3rd can be done.

Sept. 3 just as always made me think of other things that happened. For us in Europe we were sitting waiting to see what would happen after Germany had marched into Poland on the 1st and such awful things on our Radio. Then on the 3rd. England and France declared war on Germany. Start of a 7 year mess.

Saturday I spent 3 hours watching the Memorial send of for John McCain. So beautiful. Don't think I have watch one that was so touching. He deserved it.  If you go into "Find a Grave"Site. Already there have been over 700 Messages from people leaving their thoughts.
Spent most of this weekend just catching up on reading. Finely read one I had on my Ipad.  Read the whole thing. so good. I am going to have to start reading more on there. I can make the print larger.
Hope now this will go through O.K. Dont touch you button Sue.

I am doing a little painting also....
JeanneP

SharonE

Jeanne, artistic painting or wall or furniture painting?  I was born in 1939, so I don't remember a lot about WWII. I do remember my parents talking about Hitler and a friend of the family being drafted or enlisted in the AF, also my cousin who fought in the So. Pacific.  My dad was too old and my brother too young.

Sadly, Mary, I had the stool to pull up on, but my arms and legs were too weak to get me up without help. John is home now, so when it is dry, I'll go back out to touch up and I've learned my lesson about keeping the cell phone with me.  Glad you had a nice luncheon.

I haven't done anything since I came in except eat lunch and play on the computer.  Sharon

I just never did get out to the store. Still in the high 90s at 6pm. Decided to just wait and run out early in the morning as tomorrow is going to be the same.
Sure hope we are not going to pay for this crazy weather come Winter.
So many flood now in Wisconsin and Michigan. Crazy down in South Florida.  So we just can't complain here in C/U Illinois

Sharon. Your fall was a lot like mine a couple of months ago. I was answering the phone on a phone stand. Jumped on to a stool that is only 16 inch high. it slid out from under me and I went backwards and bashed my head on a door handle. Did manage to pull up with the handle but really heavy bleeding . Sunday night. Stayed up with Ice Pad and a tennis ball size lump on head. Managed to get to clinic at 8am Monday. They did a catsscan and later did a MRI. All seems O.k Now. I don't have close nabours.  We need to watch what we are doing more. Glad you came out O.K, I try to stay low down. Learned from what Sue got by climbing up ladders.

Marilyn

I texted with my son Ronnie, he said Roger is back in the hospital but they had a nice day out in the mountains yesterday. the hospice nurse was out to see him this morning and put him in the hospital.. Ron said Roger has a positive view and was taking abouot deer huntin and camping. He  got the chills very bad as they wer driving home.

Also Ron said there is no need for me to worry  about being there, He said "We" will get you a rental car and a hotel." I don't know what "we" meant.  Maybe   he is going to   pay if not I can always put it on my card and pay for it when I get home. H makes big bucks. So my m ind is at ease now, I hope my  daughter decides to just be nice.I am n ot going to take Freckles and will be traveling alone.

jane

Marilyn...I think you are wise to leave Freckles at home for this trip.

Jeanne....we have more than enough rain to share...it literally rained or stormed almost all day yesterday, the night before, Sunday, and last night.  Forecast has more rain for the rest of the week.  Muscatine, IA had heavy flooding as did a number of other towns.  Our river is high, but we're not in danger here unless something catastrophic happens.

Sharon....thank heavens your neighbors heard you.  We've made a house rule here that neither of us gets in the shower...without the other one being home.  It's too easy to slip and fall there.

Sue...glad Tim could get some of the cutting done for you and you've got it all tidy now.  We've had a number of big limbs come down out front in the lawn strip from the winds and storms.  We've had limbs trimmed over the years, but these seem to appear out of nowhere.   ;)  Thanks for trying to contact GinnyAnn.

Last night's supper went fine.  We had more food than 4 people could eat...so left overs for a day or two.  We have another load of dishes for the dishwasher...we were just too tired last night to tackle those...and had loaded the dishwasher full by the time we got to the plates and bowls used on the table.

Today's agenda includes going to the bank to cash in old EE bonds that matured end of August and a run to the store for a few items.  We'll do more shopping and relaxing after we take Gary and Kathy to airport on Wednesday.  I don't envy them the long flight to Budapest.  She has back problems anyway, and I don't know how she's going to do on a 34 day marathon trip that may end up being a bus trip and not the expensive river boat trip they paid for.  They decided to go first class from Chicago to London to Budapest which will be helpful on the jet lag, I think, and then on the return trip to Chicago from Paris or wherever.

jane

SharonE

I certainly wish her the best. Thirty-four days is a loooong trip in my estimation! I'm glad they're going first class to and from Europe. That should help.

My cleaning girl is here today and we just finished cleaning out the 2 cabinets that are in there where stuff just gets put. All cleaned and organized now.  I found a bunch of doggie stuff we don't use anymore, so will donate that to the shelter. Lots of other stuff to throw out.

I'm still sore today, but Sandra is going to help me organize my den with my newly painted bookcase. I am such a pack rat!  I'm taking a break right now before we start on the den.

Jane, with all that rain, you better buy a rowboat!  Wish you could send some here.  North of Charlotte gets a lot, but so far, not us.

Sue, I do hope you can find Ginny's phone # and find out what's happening with her. I hope she is well.  Good for Tim getting your  lorapetalum trimmed.  Ours needs it so bad too, but it will have to wait until the landscapers come at the end of the month.

Jeanne, I didn't know about your fall. You were definitely luck not to have a concussion with the head hit.  My rearend and tailbone are hurting this morning, but my pain pill has helped.  It's hard to realize we should never climb or do anything remotely dangerous anymore.  I was sitting on my stool, so didn't think it was a problem. As my friend says, "Screw the Golden Years!"

Have a good day everyone.  Sharon

jane

I'm just back from running errands to the bank, tax preparer to ask a question about the new rules in the new law, and fill the car and grocery...and then WalMart for eggs our local store doesn't carry.  [I HATE those cardboard egg containers.  Here they look like they've been used a gazillion times and have broken egg stuff on them....just plain YUCKY.  So, I go to WalMart to get eggs that don't look like the cartons have been sitting in the chicken coop for a month.  ]  Picky, huh!! :buck2:

It's gotten so humid out there...I'm glad to be home again.

SCFSue

Good morning, Every Buddy, although it's almost time for my lunch.  I was slow in getting out of bed and after I ate breakfast, I took over an hour of reading time as I wanted to finish the book I'd started yesterday.  Then I went outside and tried to dig out the last of the butterfly bush, but the roots are deep and I just gave up. Hopefully by the end of the week, I'll have them out of there.  I'll be looking for something in the spring to plant in that space.

Jane, I have lots of old oak trees in my front and back yards and after every heavy rain with wind, I find branches down in both places.  Usually the downed limbs are short enough that I can drag them down to the curb for the trash crew to pick up and carry away. However, Tim did pull a heavy one in my back yard to a place behind the azaleas and we're just going to leave it there to rot away.  It's not laying on any of the azaleas and it's not hurting anything.

Jeanne, I was born in 1937 and was reading by the time I was 5 years old.  I remember being the first to get the afternoon newspaper but my first memory of the war was when President Roosevelt came on the radio (I think it was a Sunday Afternoon) and said, "Today will live in infamy."  I didn't know what infamy was, but realized it was very important as my grandmother started praying.  I also remember the day the war ended as the church bells in our town started ringing and we put on our SS dresses and walked to town with our Grandma to pray with other friends.

Marilyn, I'm glad to hear that Ron has arranged a place for you to stay and I sincerely hope and pray that your daughter will at least be cordial if not welcoming.  It's so difficult when family members can't let go of things that should be left in the past.  Keep us posted.  Is someone helping out with Keith while you are away?

Sharon, so far I haven't found my book with Ginny Ann's phone#.  I'm not good at keeping things filed away in the same place, so it could be anywhere.  She was not at all well the last time she posted and when I called her then.  Her depression since her son died has really taken a toll on her spirit.  If I find the phone # and am able to reach her, I'll let every Buddy know.

Mary, your dinner out with your Silver Sneakers instructor sounds like fun.  I hope you didn't "labor" on Labor Day, but had a nice one.  Did you see any of your girls this weekend?

Have a nice day, Buddies.
Sue

maryz

I hope everybody had a good weekend - rainy or not.

Marilyn, glad you've gotten the family support from some, and that you have a place to stay.  Hugs from all of us.

Sue, I hope you can get in touch with Ginny Ann.

Jeanne, glad you're back to checking in, and that you didn't seem to have any after-effects from your fall. Like Sharon said, anytime you hit your head is cause for concern.  I was so lucky with my last fall, and am very conscious now about where I put my feet and maintaining my balance.  The next time might not turn out so wel
Sharon, I hope you're feeling even better by now.

I think jane and Ray have the right idea - always be sure there's someone around when you do something where problems might happen.

I played duplicate last night - not too many people there because of the holiday, I guess.  There were only 7 pairs.  The hands were really strange, and many times I had less than 8 points.  But we came in fourth and got a fraction of an MP.  Today is a do-nothing/knitting day.  Tomorrow I have to go the post office after swimming and get some stuff in the mail (taxes, packages, etc.) and maybe check on getting a new phone.

Happy Tuesday, Buddies!

I have been out of commisson for a few day with food poisoning . I saw my doctor this morning & he said that was it .  Salsa is the cause .

Hello everyone...haven't posted in a few ....but not much going on in my world...we are getting rain...in some areas flooding...so it has cooled off some..the small monarch butterfly's are really thick...if you drive very far..they cover your windshield and front...have to daily wash them off....I was nominated to be on 3 committes at church...kinda wish I had not accepted....I've done that for years....my holiday weekend was cutting grass..and reading..it was very quite here...Alpiner...sorry to hear of your food poisioning..it can really make one sick......Im having a fruit plate for supper...cottage cheese...blueberries..peaches and bananas...good evening to all...Darlene

Good to see Alpiner and Darlene.

Sorry for the food poisoning, Alpiner....that's truly miserable.

Darlene...say cool and safe there in S. Texas!

YEP, YEP,....QUACK, QUACK

The rain continues!!

We're about to take our friends to the airport for a very long day in the air....too long, I think, for 2 83 yr olds....
Cedar Rapids to Chicago to London to BudaPest...one after the other with a couple hours here and there in an airport.

She told Ray last night when they brought up some frig items that would spoil if left that she wished the trip were over.  NOT a good way to start a very expensive 35 days in Europe!

Ray and I are going to get them to the airport and then spend the day in CR....lunch at our favorite place, some shopping, and a stop by the grocery we like for fish and other foods we can't get here in town.

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I'm still in my nighty and need to get dressed.  I have one more plant to dig up in my large front flower bed and I'd like to get it done before the rain starts here.  I'm moving pretty slow this morning as I stayed up pretty late last night to finish a Baldacci mystery.  I haven't found GinnyAnn's address yet, but will look again after I dig up that plant outside.  We're supposed to get some rain due to the hurricane in the Gulf, but not as much as Mississippi or Louisiana.

Jane, I had to send a tax payment to the IRS yesterday--OUCH!  My accountant sends me vouchers and pre-addressed envelopes so that I'll get them out in time.  I'll have to send 2 more payments by January.  That old saying about "Death and Taxes" is oh, so true!

Darlene, I understand about getting nominated for church committees and other jobs at church.  Our C.E. director has asked me to teach 3-5 grade SS classes, but not every week, so I'm never sure when I'll have to teach.  On Sunday she sent me to the class to "help" a teacher who usually has a partner.  I really had nothing to do because there were only 6 children there.  I did sit beside one little girl and help her with a project the class was working on.  The teacher had us walk down 3 flights of stairs and then into the Sanctuary where she talked to the children about the Baptismal Font and a large carving of a cross over the pulpit.  One of my now deceased friends made the carving years ago.

Alpiner, I'm sorry to hear about the food poisoning.  I hope you're feeling better this morning.  Check in again soon and let us know how you are.

Mary, my weekend was good--and Auburn won the first football game!  I watched several other games on Saturday, too.  South Carolina played a small state school in South Carolina--one of about 5 that are off shoots of the University--and won by a big margin.  I know the other team was unhappy, but their school was paid, so that probably made things better!

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

SharonE

Nothing much going on here today except to finish the organizing in the den that I started yesterday. My tailbone & bottom still hurt, so have to sit down very gently on a pillow.  Otherwise fine.

Alpiner, I'm so sorry for your food poisoning. Was it from Salsa you kept too long in the fridge?  Or at a restaurant? If the former, I probably need to throw out the last of a jar I have.

Daarlene, I don't understand what your 3 committee is, but sometimes you have to learn to say NO!  When I was in Bluffton near Hilton Head, I swear that the pastor and his secretary had me on speed dial!  Not up to that any more. If I can do something like covering the phone at the church or writing articles, I can do it, but not the more active stuff. The monarchs sound pretty, but wouldn't like them all over the car.

Sue, wouldn't it be easier to get the root up if you waited till after the rain?  Try not to make a habit of reading so late or you will throw your whole body schedule off.  John's sister did that. The sleep therapist I saw a couple years ago said to go to bed at the same time every night and get up at the same time and I really try to do that.  (Except when I can't sleep).  Hope you find Ginny's address or phone #.

Hi Mary, Marilyn, Joy and of course Ginny if she comes in.  Sharon

jane

Rain, rain, rain...we got friends to airport...and got some shopping done, and a good lunch...now home watching Chuck Todd.

Good morning, Buddies.  I've just finished eating breakfast and reading the paper.  I have bridge today at Terri's at 12:30, so I'll get my shower and shampoo my hair shortly and am also planning a bit of paper work I need to get off my kitchen table.  Olyne will pick me up about 12:20.

Yesterday I cut back shrubs that were hanging over my sidewalk.  It's always something around here to keep things tidy.  We had more rain last night, but I'm not sure how much.  My rain gauge froze during an ice storm and I haven't replaced it.

I'm still looking for GinnyAnn's address.  I'll let you know when I find it.

NO RAIN....yet. AND a cool front came through and it's fall weather....in the 60's.  It's breathing time again without AC.

This prednisone is really doing a number on my sleeping....got about 4 hours last night...and I'm a need 9 hours person.

I'm glad we have no place we have to be or people we have to entertain.  Maybe go out just for supper with other Friday night couple...but no desserts after.  Sounds perfect to me!

jane

SharonE

Jane, I'm sorry about your sleep problems. As you know, I can relate.  Glad you're having some cooler weather anyway.

Sue, have a good time at bridge.  Hope you got your bushes trimmed. If it were me, I'd definitely hire someone to come in and take care of all of that.

It's still 90 degrees here and high humidity!  No rain yet but supposed to get some next week. We'll see.

I'm still hurting when I sit down. I hope it goes away soon.  I'm off to the grocery soon.

I finally got the global # for Abbot who connected me with the spinal stimulator people who called me back, and I finally have an appt for next Wed for tweaking.  I guess Abbott bought out St Jude and let my liaison guy go, so that was the problem.  Always something.  Have a nice day everyone.  Sharon

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I've had breakfast, showered and dressed, and waiting for Tim to show up for our Friday trip to the library, Kroger shopping, and lunch out.  He often visits yard/estate sales prior to picking me up.  He often finds things he can either save for his annual sale or some which he can sell online.  Friday/Saturday are the big yard/estate sale days here.

I have one library book which I haven't finished and one I haven't even started.  Tim has encouraged me to get more than I was choosing as I'm often stuck with having to reread some of the favorites in my own collection.

Sharon, I had a good time at bridge, but got lousy cards and didn't play them well, so ended up with a quarter as low lady on the totem pole.  I enjoy this group so much--and all except Terri are church friends.  Terri is our lone Catholic.  She's a dear friend and is also in my Wednesday bridge group.  We played at her home yesterday.  Good luck with the appointment next week. I sure hope it helps.

Jane, I'm still looking for GinnyAnn's address.  When I find it, I'll let you and the other Buddies know.  It's hard to believe you have a 60* temperature this morning.  We're going to be in the mid 90's again today!

It's only 9:30 here now and I am still reading a 500 page novel I started 2 days ago.  I didn't read much yesterday until about 9:00 p.m. and still have at least another 100 pages to go.  It's a complicated plot with 2 adversarial heroes and I'd like to finish it this afternoon.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

SharonE

Good morning, Gals.  This week is a sectional bridge tournament in Charlotte, so John and Situ are playing together. They got 4 pts yesterday. He left about 9:15 today but will be home by 7:30. Last night was 11:15, so I didn't have to cook.  I've cleaned up the kitchen and loaded the DW and put a load in the washer. I hope to find the energy to go to the FC this afternoon.

Sue, I'm glad you had fun at bridge even if you were the big quarter winner!  I definitely would check out an excess of books rather than having to re read others.  I usually donate books once I've read them.

I talked to Jonathan last night and he said Leyton is loving first grade at his STEM school.  Sure hope it continues.

It continues hot and humid here but supposed to have rain and a little cooler weather over the weekend. I hope so.

Jane, I hope you are still enjoying cool weather and that you slept last night. Have you thought of taking a Melatonin?

Mary, what's going on with you besides knitting?

Hi to all. Have a blessed day.  Sharon

jane

It's delightfully cool and no rain here...but cloudy.  Temps are very fall-like and no humidity. You can actually walk outside and breathe!  The leaves are changing and the walnut leaves are falling like mad.

We just finished a walk to town.

I was up again at 4:30 am....so I'll be one tired little puppy by nighttime.  We're just meeting one couple at the golf club tonight and then home.  The local football team is on tv tonight and our John, the 90 yr old...goes to all the home games, and will be glued to his tv tonight.

I don't remember if I posted this or not , so scroll on by if I have .  I have been out of sync the past week after I had food poisoning on Sunday . I stayed home from church & was glad I did !  It was the intestinal form .  I saw the doctor on Tuesday & he confirmed that was what I had .  He asked me what I had been eating & it seems it was salsa I bought at the store , there was a bit left in the container & it must have been the culprit .  I haven't felt like eating & when I do its usually toast with peanut butter .

jane

Alpiner...I think that's your body saying "be good to me for a bit" while it heals from the food poisoning.  I think it needs more time, too, as we get older.

We're getting some things done, but my "steam" is wearing out.  I don't know if we'll get the big freezer in the garage cleaned out and defrosted today or not.  I did the one for my fridge this morning, so that's all nicer looking and organized.
