It is so hard for a mother to process a child's demise, I am sure having a difficult time. I fell last Thursday and hurt my right hand then I fell today and skinned my right elbow. Not paying attention where ti am putting my feet.

I am not going to continue with the PT I have to pay $35 out of pocket every time I go and I just can't afford to spend  540$ for 8 weeks of therapy when I only get 68$ per month. that is more than my payments to my credit card which I am m,aking double payments on to get it paid off before we go to Hawaii next year. That is the copay with my  medicare advantage plan

Those co-pays sure do add up, Marilyn.   I think you'll find it takes a long time to come to terms with the death of a child. My sister, after 9 years since the loss of her oldest at 46 to a brain tumor, is still sometimes just coping day to day.

It looks like another beautiful day here...and then the heat of summer and humidity to return Thurs through the weekend. This break has been wonderful, though.

Good morning, Buddies.  We had a big rainstorm here about 4:00 yesterday afternoon. It was a "gully washer".  However, it didn't last long.  I'll have to mow the back yard grass again when everything dries off.  My cleaning ladies were here this morning and everything is tidy and cleaned up, so not much to do inside the house.

Marilyn, how hard it must be to come to terms with the death of a child.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.  I know you are a "prayer" and that you know your son has gone to be with God, but it still hurts and will for a long time.  Just know that we Buddies all send love and support for this sad time in your life.

Jane, I found the box with my Christmas card list and hope to find GinnyAnn's address in there today.  I'll let you know what it is if it's in there.  Last Christmas I didn't send out many cards and may not again this year.

Joy and Alpiner and daughter, I'm praying for you and your families, too.

Have a pleasant day, Every Buddy.  I hope no one is in danger of the storm threatening the Eastern Coast line.

We will get rain and wind from Florence, but hopefully moderately with no damage.  I had to go see the vampires at 10:00 this morning, so I went ahead and filled up my car with gas and stopped by the grocery for some things. I use my distilled water bottles to fill up with tap water, so I don't need to buy any, but I did buy some sandwich meat and cheese and a few other things just in case the power goes out. We are far enough inland that I don't expect problems, but one never knows.

Marilyn, Joy, and Alpiner, my heart goes out to you. It must be the worst thing in the world to experience, but know that God has them now and that they are no longer in pain.  A big cyber hug for all of you.

Marilyn, you have to start paying attention to where you're walking. You can't afford to really hurt yourself. I'm sorry your insurance pays so little. It must be hard.

Jane, I'm sorry you're getting more heat next week.  I hope the hurricane clears the heat and humidity  out of here, but I doubt it will.

Sue, I'm glad your gals came today and that the rain storm was fairly short.  We got some last night too and supposed to get some today, but one never knows in this location.

I hope it is a good day for everyone.  Sharon

Sharon...glad you’re outside the storm target area, but good to be prepared.

I also had to visit the vampires this morning, and the hospital was crazy busy.  The registering person said two orthopedic, one podiatrist, and a urologist were all in the speciality clinic today, so lots of “customers” for them.  These docs come up from the Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, and Iowa City clinics and have office hours here.

I’m off in 15 minutes for my haircut.

Right now, I’m on my screened porch, enjoying the breeze and watching the birds dart around.  They are really chatting up a storm, too.

Nothing exciting here today.  Our SC grands are hunkering down, waiting for Florence.
The warnings have been called off for Bluffton, but (so far) the Charleston folks are staying put.
However, we're due to be near the NC coast just south of Norfolk in ten days, so we're all watching carefully.  And starting to think about possible alternative plans, if necessary.

Good Morning, Buddies.

Another beautiful day here, and I'm looking forward to bridge and lunch out today.  Hard combination to beat.

That hurricane Florence sure looks like bad news for so many people.  I hope all "our" extended family...Mary's in Charleston and area, our Sharon in the Carolinas, etc. get through it without damage or fright.

Good morning, Buddies.  I'm still in PJ's and will shower shortly.  I've read the paper and cleaned up the kitchen.  I have the grocery ads on my kitchen table and will start on my Friday's list after I shower and dress for bridge.  I'm reading a Dewey Lambdin Naval novel from the 1800's and hope to finish it today.  A bridge sub who is playing today will pick me up to go to Olyne's.  Marilyn lives fairly close to my neighborhood.

I have hopes, too, that "our" extended family will be safe from damage from the storm.  It looks like a doozy!  The pictures on TV of all the fleeing families is very frightening.  I do hope that people don't stay home and try to ride it out as it looks like a monster storm.

Stay safe, Every Buddy.

We had some rain last night and it was in the 70's this morning when I left for my back tweak appt. Bumper to bumper traffic all the way there. Since my appt was at 9:00, it was probably the usual AM rush hour, but I sure hated it. No problem coming home.  I got a new gal to work on me and she seemed good although, I may have to dial the intensity down a number. It takes a while to adjust to a new setting.

As to the hurricane, it now looks like it will go a little south of us, which is bad news.  Originally it was supposed to be across NC and above Charlotte. They say you get more wind from the right side of the storm.  Whoopee!  We're bringing everything in, I've shopped and have bottled tap water, candles and flashlights. So I guess I am as prepared as I can be. We don't plan to leave. I hope that's not a mistake, but I don't know anyone else who is either.  Mary, I hope your family is safe and that your NC plans will proceed as planned, however, I have my doubts on that.

Jane, hope you have good cards and lunch today.  Nice that all the specialists come in to your town.

Joy, I'm sure you're glad to just be reading about the hurricanes for a change and not worrying about it, although you are pretty far inland, I think from NO.

Sue, sounds like you're organized in getting your shopping list ready for Friday.  Hope your bridge is good today.  I'm reading FATAL by ? Palmer.  It's a medical thriller. This is the 3rd book, I've read of his. Pretty good. My last book that I read before this was THE LONGEST RIDE by Nicolas Sparks.  It was really good and set in NC as most of his are.

Nothing on tap except that I may make a tuna pasta salad to have if we lose power. I think I will also boil some eggs to have on hand.  Have a good day.  Sharon

My sister in law is in Wilmington NC and I keep seeing pad reports for that area. They do;'t plan on leaving.

Not much new here, I've been for a walk with fr3eckles, Vacuumed the house , went to the bank, and this afternoon I have to attend a meeting at Hospice re: my  patient. It is the regular monthly meeting that the volunteers attend to her all the  reports on our patients from the staffMy hand is still a bit swollen and  my wrist still hurts a bit but I am doing fine and will not go have it X-rayed. U got the bill yesterday from the Ortho Dr. and I am not happy  with what my share of the bill is. I will be changing to a Medicare supplement plan soon.

Marilyn...hope you can find a better supplement.

Difficult night here...waiting for tramadol to click in.

I talked to one of the new bridge ladies yesterday.  She’d had a double mastectomy four years ago.  She’d had implants done...and said she’d had 5 surgeries because of those, infections, etc.  I was glad I hadn’t opted for that for me.  I don’t know how I could have handled that while teaching at the same time.  Working and chemo were a bad enough combo for me.

Time to try and get more sleep.

Good morning, Buddies.  I'm waiting for a volunteer to come by to take me to my bank.  She called and will be here about 10:00.  I've never met her, but she is one of many of the volunteers who belong to "Seniors and Friends" which is designed to help those of us who pay an annual fee for drivers to take us to appointments, etc.  Some even take others grocery shopping.  Tim and I have a standing lunch date, library visit, and Kroger stop every Friday, so I don't ask for many rides.

It's going to be another scorcher here today with perhaps some rain later this afternoon.

Jane, I'm with you on the no breast replacement.  I did have my lymph glands removed under my right arm, but no problems with that.  My cancer was small and visible so was removed long ago.  I still have mammos and visits to a cancer center annually but have been doing well all these years.

Sharon, the hurricane warnings look bad, but hopefully you'll be spared any heavy damage.  The last report I saw last night looks like it'll mostly affect North Carolina, but those things sometimes fool the forecasters.  Thoughts and prayers for all in N.C. and S. C.

Marilyn, I hope your day is a good one.  I know you've had a tough time lately with the death of your son.  Good luck with getting a good Medicare supplement plan.

Has anyone read The Miniaturist?  PBS had a showing this past week of that book and it was pretty depressing, but I think I'll look for the book when we go to the library tomorrow.  I found an old list from my book club of several years ago and that book was on the list.  It was during the time I was in the hospital following my fall so I missed that selection.

Jane, I'm still digging around to find Ginnyann's address.  I'll let you know when I find it.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

It's looking like the southern part of the NC coast and the upper SC coast is going to get the worst of Florence.  I've just heard from the Charleston grandson that that area is most concerned about the rain and flooding.  He says they have "battened down" their house (which is on stilts) as much as possible, and will be staying with friends on higher ground until the worst of it is over.  It looks like the area where we are planning to go (just south of Norfolk VA) is being spared the worst of things - so I hope that will be okay by the end of next week.

Sharon, I hope you don't get too much rain, but glad you've gotten prepared in any case.

Sue, we're still having temps around 90, too.  I hope that will be over before too much longer.

Lots of love and hugs to all the Buddies, and to Marilyn, Joy, and alpiner, especially.

Mary, prayers for your grandson and family. Charleston floods easily and quickly.  The storm is now predicted to take a left turn farther south in SC, so hopefully we will be spared any damage.

Marilyn, I can't believe your sil is staying in Wilmington with a direct hit predicted, but maybe she is on higher ground and a safer location.  I'm sorry your hand and wrist are still hurting, but I do hope you can get a MC supplement that will lower your co-pays.  Our supplement is an F and costs about $200 a mo, but it picks up everything MC doesn't. With all my health problems, it's paid for itself many times over.

Jane, my older daughter couldn't understand why I didn't have breast reconstruction, but there was no way I was going to opt for elective surgery after nearly a year of surgery & treatments, especially when I can use a silicon prosthesis in my bra.  I hope your tramadol is working by now. Did you sleep last night?

John's playing bridge today at the Lake House here so he doesn't have to deal with all the traffic.  It was awful yesterday.

As soon as I see the wind picking up, I will go out and bring in the hummer feeders and the bird feeders, but thely are still feeding, so hate to take them down.

Sue, hope you get your banking taken care of.  I do all except the ATM on line.  I don't use my phone for checks or banking though because the hacking danger is so high.

Hi to all.  Sharon

Sharon...not a good night and tramadol isn't kicking in, even after more an hour ago.  So...not getting much done here. Thank heavens, my gal is here that cleans for me every two weeks.

Mary...hope all works for your trip  later on and family in Charleston are safe.

Sue...it's great you have that service available.  There's nothing like that here, and no public transportation...taxi, etc.

Joy...Baton Rouge was such a beautiful city.  My husband loved that museum, and, of course, we went by LSU to see the Tiger.

Marilyn....that's what we've had for the last 12 years or so, and we've been pleased.  We also each have a Plan D, but separate companies.  Ray's is also AARP UnitedHealthcare and mine is BC/BS.  That supplement has been recognized everywhere we've needed medical care...here at home, at the Univ. of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, in Texas, Alabama, Montana, etc.

It's a nice morning here, and I got these creaky joints  out for a walk, so that's done!  Laundry was finished up yesterday, so I think today, I'll start moving some clothes around....next week, it's back to fall, so I can move some real summery things out of my main closet and into the "office" closet.  It's not quite turtleneck weather yet, but it won't be long.

I hope Sharon is still not in path of Florence and you all have a peaceful and safe weekend.

Jane, glad you were feeling well enough to walk. Wish it was time to change out clothes here, but it'll probably be another month or 6 weeks.  Thanks for thinking of us. Yes, we are to get 30-50 mph gusts + 6-10" if rain. Flash flood warnings out for the area. I don't think we'll have a problem, but we haven't been through this before. It is relatively nice out today, just a little wind.  Sat & Sun will be the big days.  If I don't post, it could be because I've lost power.

Marilyn, Plan F takes care of everything. Mine is BC/BS and is through my Retired Teacher's assn. I pay about $15 a month for part D from Cigna. Most of my meds are generic, so I don't pay much more--maybe $500/yr, but I take a lot of meds.  Go to Medicare.com and they have a place where you can see all the plans and put in health problems and meds.  I'm not sure how old you are, but if you are 65, I recommend you get part D because if you decide you need it later and haven't had it, you pay a penalty for every month you haven't had it.  John didn't take it out, but until the glaucoma meds about 3 yrs ago, he didn't take any RX. So

My keyboard stopped working so didn't finish what I was saying. But a reboot worked. Anyway John was ahead of the game because of being so healthy. You will have to evaluate that. Even if you don't take many meds, $15/month would ensure that any expensive drugs in the future would be covered. You can always change to a more comprehensive policy if you have already had a MC D.

All for now. Just weather watching!   Sharon

Still watching Florence.   I hope you don't have too many problems, Sharon.

Good luck with the insurance decisions, Marilyn.  I had to make those a number of years ago, and have been satisfied with the choices I made.

Duplicate again this afternoon.  After coming in last on Monday, we managed a second (66+%) today.
You just never know.  Two of the opposing pairs did play extremely slowly, which had me chomping at the bit - not too obviously I hope.

Nothing planned for the weekend, but since it looks like our trip will be a "go", I'll start thinking about what I'm going to take.

Happy weekend, Buddies!

Thanks, Mary. Me too. The wind is getting more gusty and the rain is supposed to start in about an hour.  Congrats on the 2nd place. 66% is a great score.  I've been helping John with some computer stuff related to his cruise. Not much else going on. Everything brought in from outside. I just hope that's sufficient and hope that some of the tall trees by the edge of the golf course behind our garden don't fall. Of course our garden trees are big enough to keep the others from hitting the house.

I have one crazy concern for the next 2 days--will Bunny go outside in the rain and wind to do her business. I'll probably have to put a couple leashes on her so that she can get off the patio and I can stay inside.  :D  She normally goes out when it rains, but this is going to be so heavy and so much wind, she may not want to. If not, I'll put her in the sunroom on the tile until she decides to go out or do it there.

Anyway, I just hope we don't lose electricity. I can cope with the rest other than flooding into the house.  I just wouldn't live in a beach town unless there was a high hill and I had a generator.

Hope you all have a good weekend and that all your friends and relatives on the coast stay safe.  Sharon

Sharon...I think you're getting a big discount going through your teacher's retirement for your insurance. We pay much more than $15 each for Plan D...$84.50 monthly for Ray and 37.50 for me...and I have a $400 deductible and that's BC/BS for me  The insurance costs, even through the same company, vary greatly by state, too, I'm told.  Ray also has some expensive meds that put him in the "hold" quickly, so, even with insurance he can pay over $200 monthly for one of his drugs.

When I look at the costs of my meds if I didn't have a Plan D, I gasp.  Prescription drug prices are totally out of control and obscene in this country...and our politicans do nothing but collect $$$ from the pharmas.  Sorry...yes, political, but it really gets me stirred up.

Beautiful morning here.  And the weatherguessers changed the forecast....hot and humid all next week...until maybe Friday.  You just can't trust those weatherguessers. :idiot2: :2funny:

We're both feeling better this morning...Ray's been to the Farmer's Market, and I need to get out and get my walk in before it the temps go up and humidity comes in.

Have a great weekend.

jane, I certainly agree with your views on drug prices.  I pay over $100/month copay for one of my meds - and I cringe in horror to think of what they might charge without insurance.  Plus I have two "maintenance meds" (one for blood pressure!), both generic, that my plan will no longer let me by on a 90-day basis.  The cost is minimal, but it's the principle - I think they do it just so they can get another copay out of a basically inexpensive medication.  Sorry - I'll shut up now.

You are SO RIGHT!

I did my walk, thinking it was still cool enough out. It was...for the first 1/2 and then the heat and humidity started getting to me, so I cut the walk short by a block or so and headed home.  My philosophy is "something is better than nothing" when it comes to exercise...or dusting....or vacuuming...or whatever.   :coolsmiley:

I hope Sharon and others who look in here who live in the Carolinas are safe and suffer no damage from Florence.

Those gas explosions north of Boston are sure scary.  What on earth happened, I wonder.  They said something about pipes being over pressurized.  YIKES!!  The insurance and lawsuits from that will be keeping the courts busy for years, I'd guess.

I hear the dryer calling my name.

Good morning, Buddies.  Nothing but football on the agenda here today.  I'm not feeling up to par this morning--a bit of an upset tummy--so am not going to do much today.  I think my left over BLT from lunch should have been thrown away, but I ate it and now I'm sorry.

Sharon, I'm keeping my fingers crossed and prayers for your safety during the storm.  It's a scary thing to know it's coming and nothing to do about it except batten down the hatches and pray.  Will there be a shelter open at your facility?

Marilyn, I hope you can find an advantage plan that will be affordable and will meet your needs.  It's scary when you don't know if you'll have enough coverage.

Jane, I agree that the congress is in cahoots with the pharma companies.  I think because they get breaks on their medical needs that they forget the rest of us--and probably take kick backs in the form of "donations" from those companies.  I do have one advantage as Bob paid into "Tri-care for Life" before he died so that my co-pays are more affordable--but still too high IMHO!

Not much else except football going on today.  AU plays LSU here this afternoon.  I'll watch the game and probably read most of the day.  Stay safe if the storm is "looking" at you.  Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
