So far, so good here. It is raining off and on lightly and blowing some, but nothing extreme yet.  I have all containers full of water, the tub full of water for flushing the toilets, I've planned at least 4 meals that don't need to be cooked. (I cooked macaroni & some hard-boiled eggs for tuna salad last night, but won't make it yet. I also cooked hamburger w/taco seasoning for a taco salad and I have some smoked salmon for a salmon salad. There's some cooked chicken breast frozen up and then after that, I have sliced beef & cheese for sandwiches and some cottage cheese and pineapple. That's about it.  I probably won't need any of the preps I made, but I sleep easier having made them. I've got a load of undies in the washer now & hope I will be able to get those done & dried. Anything else that needs to be washed can wait.

As for the drug prices, you all are so right and I agree with the political comments too. Since John doesn't have MC D, he has to pay for his glaucoma drops which are over $300!  He now gets them from Planet Drugs in Canada online, same thing, has kept his pressure stable, etc and they cost less than half!

Marilyn, I'm not surprised at being turned down by the ins companies on the supplement.  A few years ago, I checked to see if I could get lower prices on mine because the rates were going up--no dice because of my CHF, but the one I had had to keep me because it was connected to my pension, so I stayed put.  I don't know much about the Advantage policies and whether there is a difference among them or not. Do some research.

Sue, Enjoy your football. Hope AU wins.

Jane, good for you getting your walk in early.  I am such a slug-a-bed, it wouldn't work for me.  Rainy here anyway. Our clubhouse with the FC is closed, so I have an excuse this weekend to skip it!  :D

Have a good day.  Sharon

Good Sat morning..almost noon...we are still getting rain off and on...my grass is getting tall...my yard man is coming Monday...this time he will really earn his money...but he does a great job....two things I decided after my husband passed......keep up with my hair and nails and Not do yard work......I am so thankful I have champ VA from my husband...the last AB was priced at 84.00.  My co pay was 12.....and it would have been 0...if I did Meds by mail.....but of course couldn't wait on it.....hope everyone has a great weekend....stay safe from flooding ...Im going to my daughters Tues for a few days...that's always fun.....later...Darlene

jane

Darlene...enjoy the time with your daughter.

It's so sad to see all the devastation in the Carolinas.

It's to be hot and humid here again, so I'm in for the day.  We do need to water our new plantings and little tree...no rain for a long time here now...and none until maybe the middle of next week.

Football on for me today...3 teams I like are playing, so it'll be a full day.

Have a blessed Sunday.

jane

SharonE

Jane, I'd be glad to send you some rain!! It has been raining continually all day today. We have also developed a leak, I guess from our roof, but it was replaced in 2011 after a hail storm. Not sure what's going on, but have a bucket in place. The winds not too bad although there are leaves and small twigs with leaves all over our back yard and patio. Nothing serious though.  Church was cancelled today, so it doesn't seem like Sunday.

Darlene, have fun at your daughter's. I'm sure it breaks the tedium of being alone.

I hope everyone enjoys their football games. Wish I enjoyed them but I don't.  The Panthers are playing the Falcons today, so hope they win. Otherwise, none are of interest to me.  I'll probably read most of the afternoon.  I fixed a big tuna/pasta salad last night, so leftovers tonight.

Definitely not a day to be outside here.  Sharon

jane

Good Morning...

I sure hope Sharon and John aren't wearing water wings or flippers this morning in their home there in the Carolinas.  The rains just don't stop, do they.

I had a good night's sleep and have a list of "to dos" today...including running around to pay the prop taxes at the Court House, WalMart, Post Office, bank, card store and all those stops to get a list completed.  Good jobs for a hot Monday.

Ray did a short visit to coffee group to tell them Gary called us yesterday from Germany. Their boat trip is going well...only one portage around a low spot in the Danube.  Then he went out to golf while it's still cool.  I think I may go and try the water walking again with him tomorrow when he goes to the pool 20 miles from here.

Have a good Monday!

SCFSue

Good morning, Jane and Every Buddy looking in this morning.  I've been going over paper work and trying to organize that--but I'm a terrible procrastinator when I have a task I don't like.  I keep putting it off!

Sharon, thoughts and prayers for your safety and hope for little to no damage.  Keep us posted.

It's going to be another scorcher here today.  I may do a little weeding shortly, but no yard work after lunch.  It is going to be at least 90* here today and that's just too hot for work outside.  I am going to try to get some more paper work completed and in the mail and am expecting Tim for his Monday morning check up on "poor old Mom".  He's still using my car, but hopes to get his work truck back sometime today.  If so, Kris will probably follow him over here and take him back to pick up his truck.

I am going to clean leaves off my deck and hope the shade is around there by lunch time.  I like to eat outside if there is enough shade.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

The rain in the Carolinas is incredible (to say nothing of the typhoon in the Philippines/China).  I hope Sharon and John aren't having too many problems.  Daughter Sue has talked to the owners of the property we are renting, and everything there is fine and on track for next week.  Now if we just don't have any trouble getting there - or seeing the Chihuly exhibit at the Biltmore in Asheville.  It's always something, isn't it.

I didn't swim this morning.  I had my second eye appointment this morning at 8:30, and just couldn't make both.  I see the doc two times every six months.  I think they have to schedule it this way so the insurance will kick in for all the testing.  Oh, well - at least there were no problems or major changes.

After talking about it for several weeks, I finally got a new cell phone.  My old one was 4 year old - ancient in cell-phone years - and wasn't holding a charge very well.  I don't use it for a lot of things (like the millennials do), but I do text with everybody and mostly read on it, so it's important to me.  And now I have a new learning curve.  Not too bad so far.  :2funny:

Happy Monday, Buddies!

SharonE

ALERT!! There's something unusual up in our sky and it is big and bright!! :D  What a welcome change from the past few days.  No damage here except the roof leak. I've already put in a call to our insurance gal to try to find out the name of the roofing company. She called me back but won't be in the office till tomorrow due to the damage she had on her own property.  John got all the bird feeders back up and is now taking his walk.

I'm going over to the clubhouse after lunch to work out and find some books in the library there.

Tomorrow I have an appt with my primary dr, an internist, and do I have a list of things to bring up with him, starting with a new RX for Tramadol!!

Jane, glad you had a good night's sleep and will be able to run all your errands.  I didn't get to sleep till about 4:30 so slept in till 10:00, so my day was half gone before I got started.

Sue, I'm a procrastinator also, but finally we have to do it whether we want to or not.  Hope Tim gets his truck today.

I just heard from my sil out in CO who was checking on us.  Of course, both of John's sisters have called as well.

Mary, just saw your post. I'm so glad your house for vacation is fine.  As to the Biltmore estate, hopefully they will have things cleaned up by then, but Florence was heading there with a big batch of rain when she left Charlotte. Glad your eyes are okay.  I need to go back to my eye doctor. My vision has gone down hill in the past few weeks and I'm wondering if I have a film or something over them. They said it was possible and was easily corrected by laser. Not what I want to have done though.  John is getting his cataract removed next week, I think.

I hope everyone has a good day. Hi to all.  Sharon

maryz

Sharon, glad you're having some sunshine!  Re your vision thing - I had cataract surgery about 15 years ago.  About 5-6 years ago, the doc noticed something around the edges of where the cataract was removed.  He sent me for a YAG procedure - done with a laser thing - to touch up the edges.  It took no longer than a regular office appointment, and was totally painless.  No problems since with that.  I hope everything clears up by itself, but a laser thing is no big deal (IMO).

Good Tuesday Morning.

It's looking quite overcast here...but the radar shows the rain is north of us.  I hope we got some, anyway.

I'm going to try the water walking thing again this morning...I'll go with Ray when he goes to the pool at the Wellness Center in the neighboring town...for his swim.  It's 20 miles each way, but a beautiful facility.

Still hot and humid here.  Friday we have Ray's niece and her son coming out for the weekend, and it's to be cooler and nice. I sure hope so!

jane

maryz

Glad you're getting in the water-walking, jane.  I wish it were closer to you - it's such a great (and easy) way to get some exercise.

Nothing going on this continued-summer morning - supposed to be near 90 for the rest of the week - with humidity to match, of course.  I've just gone to Walmart to pick up my monthly order of mostly stuff like toilet paper, etc.  But that's SOOOOO easy, compared with having to actually go into a store. My partner and I did fairly well at duplicate last night - came in 3rd (out of 12 pairs).  I think more than half of the hands we played wound up as "down 1" - for both sides.  Funny night.

Happy Tuesday, Buddies!

SCFSue

Good morning, Jane and Every Buddy looking in.  I've had breakfast and cleaned up the kitchen and am now trying to decide what to do today.  I have plenty of library books from last Friday's trip to the library, so will probably read after lunch.  Terri is coming by this morning to drop off a book she wants me to read and I'm looking forward to seeing her.  Other than that, not much else going on today, except cleaning up leaves from my deck and others in the back yard.

Mary, I know you'll enjoy the Chihuly exhibit in Asheville.  Our AU/Auburn art museum has a gorgeous Chihuly chandelier in the foyer.  I can't remember who contributed the money to buy it, but it may have been several donors.  The museum is not large, but has some lovely exhibits, including a very extensive one of paintings by ? (can't remember the name of the artist--but it is full of birds/animals/etc. of a famous early American Artist).

Sharon, woo hoo on that big bright orb in your sky yesterday and hopefully it will return today.  I hope you'll hear from your insurance gal today and someone can get out to fix you up!  I also had cataract surgery on both eyes after I moved to Auburn in 2004.  I only wear dime store readers late at night if I want to stay up to finish a book as reading in lamp light is still a bit difficult, but other than that no glasses for me.

Jane, enjoy the water walking.  Several of my local buddies go to water aerobics twice a week and they really enjoy the exercise there.  It's done at the AU swimming facility.  They especially enjoy the no stress on joints while exercising in the water.  It will be nice to have Ray's niece and son for a short visit.

Tim came by yesterday for my Monday a.m. check up.  We had a nice visit and went over some paper work.  He will have to use my car today and perhaps tomorrow.  His truck is at the shop and the mechanic is hoping to fix whatever needs it today.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.

I've been to the Dr. Got my flu shot. Got a so-so okay on hemp oil. Put me on metamucil. Yuck. Then he had me give a urine sample as he is concerned with my complaint of frequency. If I don't have a UTI, he's going to put me on some sort of med for it. I really don't want to take anything else but running to the bathroom constantly is driving me nuts too. He did recommend getting the new shingles shot. I need to call my MC D company to find out how much it is. Apparently the pharmacy can't tell me without running it through and filling it.

I talked to AllState who paid for my original roof repair but will have to wait till tomorrow for someone to call me back about the claim. The guy I was talking to didn't seem to know much since it's such an old claim.

It's very hot and humid here, but still sunny.  I did go workout yesterday and got some new books.

Thanks, Mary, for the info on the laser surgery. That's what I heard from others too. I'll have to talk to my optometrist and see whether she will look at them or send me back to the surgeon.

Jane, I think the waterwalking is probably the best thing for you with all your joint problems.  Probably for me too, but I haven't been able to convince myself to do it again. I know I would never do it if I had to drive 20 miles, but since Ray does it with you, that is good.  Have fun with your niece, etc this weekend.

Marilyn, how are you doing?  I worry about you when you don't post.  Have they started your roof yet?

Jeanne, where are you?  Hope you're doing okay.

Hi to all I haven't mentioned.  Sharon

jane

Sherry...good for you on flu shot.  I haven’t done that yet....shingles shot...the second one of the new two really made my arm sore for a few days so want to be sure that’s all over before adding a new shot to the mix.

Some fog here this morning, and big rains coming according to radar.  So, a wet Wednesday ahead.  That’s ok...I’ll be inside here or at the golf club having lunch and playing bridge.  I love retirement.

SCFSue

Good morning Sharon and Jane.  It's almost 10:00 here and I'm just now dressed and hopefully ready for the day.  I stayed up pretty late finishing a book and slept later this morning.  It's already too hot to do much work outside, although I might get some ivy cut off the front of the house as it is still in the shade.

I usually get my flu shot at Kroger--my Tri-Care for Life that Bob paid into before he died pays for it.  I'm not sure if I should wait another week or two before I get it--and I need to check with the Kroger pharmacist about having another Shingles shot.  During the last year of Bob's life, he had shingles several times and was pretty miserable with them.

I'm going outside shortly and hopefully will cut down some ivy on the front side of the house while the shade is still out there.  I did clear ivy off the front sidewalk last week.

Have a nice day Every Buddy.
Sue

SharonE

I still plan to get the new shingles shots but haven't called my MC D company yet to see how much they are. I just decided to go ahead and get my flu shot while I was at the doctors even though it is a little early.

Jane, I think you are wise to put off the flu shot till the shingles shot is totally absorbed.  Hope you have a great lunch and bridge today.

Friday is our neighborhood's brunch at one of the local breakfast places, The Toastery. Does anyone have that near you. They are really good, though a little expensive.

Tomorrow my cleaning girl comes, then the landscaper, then I will go to the grocery.  A busy day.

The Sun City landscapers blew off and cleaned the front yards & streets today but haven't gotten to the back yet.

I'm going to the FC shortly.  The only positive is that I will be able to read while I'm on the bike. I nearly stayed up late to finish it last night but disciplined myself to go to bed.  Nothing else here.  Hi to all.  Sharon

JeanneP

Hi all. I am still here. Doing very little. I must start a doz. things a day and never finish anything. Promise myself. Tomorrow will do certain things. Never do.
Did get the roof on the Patio repaired .Still needs power washed. As Usual. Person who got started left town with some family problem in Florida.  It is just to hot anyway.  It has been in the low 90s for last 8 days and today they say up to 103 deg. Had no rain. I am trying to get out early in the mornings . Today I took laundry at 8:30am. Will pick it up same time tomorrow. Made no appointment until it cools down
I have noticed that my eyes seem to have a film over them if I am on the computer or reading for to long. My Cataract Operation was about 11 years ago now. I go to him twice a year and so will be going next month. He says nothing serious but it is Just Dry eye. I do put drops in twice a day. I think a lot of dust that is around is part of problem, Will see.
Sue. Now I have mentioned the incontinence to 2 doctors. The man never says anything. I then talked to a Female. Gyno and she says even she has same problem. Comes with age .That seems to cover a lot of things now. Medication is not recommended by most in that field. I wouldn't take anyway. I drink so much water all the time. Suppose that is one reason.
Time to get off here. Tearing up a little.
JeanneP

jane

Jeanne.....good to see you here.

Rain again overnight, so we’re getting a good drenching.  The farmers will complain how they can’t get into the fields to begin harvest....way too muddy for the big machines, but our gardens and flowers sure needed it. And it brought less humidity and cooler temps.  That’s a big + for me.

Later this morning we’re off to CR for our weekly “city” visit and lunch at fav restaurant.

Bridge was great yesterday...good hands for me....one with 25HCP...and so I came out 1st and left with a net win of 50cents.  High stakes, for sure!😇

maryz

Hi, Jeanne - always good to hear from you.  Hope you get some cooler temps soon.

jane, don't spend those big winnings all in one place.

Cleaning lady comes today - always a good thing. After she leaves, I'll start getting things ready for the trip.  Nothing much else going on.

Happy Thursday, Buddies!
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Hi Jeanne. Good to see you here. YOu're wise to do your errands early in the morning.  I'm not an early riser, so that wouldn't work for me though.

Jane, 25 pts!  Wow! Isn't it great to have a hand like that and then to come in the over-all winner!  Enjoy your day out.

Mary, my cleaning girl was here too today. Love it.  The irrigation guy came by at 9:00 to look at our outside faucet that the mowers had damaged and was able to fix it. Yea.  Now, I'm waiting on the landscaper to come and give me an estimate on the work.  He does wonderful work, but it is hard to pin him down to a time.

After he leaves and I get some lunch, I'm off to the grocery.  Whoopee!

I also heard from the Dr today that the urine test I had done showed another UTI!  It's not really bothering me much except for frequency, but I hate having to take more antibiotics.  This has really been a chronic problem for me. I wish they could find a cure.

Later, Sharon

SCFSue

Good morning, Jeanne, Jane, Mary, Sharon, and every Buddy looking in this morning.  I've had breakfast, cleaned up the kitchen, showered and dressed for bridge, and am now just waiting for Terri to pick me up about 12:15.  I've eaten a small lunch of leftovers, so I'm good for the afternoon.

Yesterday I did get more ivy cut back, but there's always more to do.  I doubt I'll get to it until early Saturday morning, though, as tomorrow is my lunch, library, and Kroger shopping with Tim.  I need to look through Kroger's Wednesday ads and make a list of things I want besides things I need.  I'm going to try one of those Kind Bars that I keep seeing advertised.  I usually buy large Hershey bars and break off a small portion every day for my chocolate fix.

I need to call my GP and ask his nurse if I need a flu shot now and another Shingles shot.  I usually get both at the Kroger Pharmacy.  I'm pretty sure I got a flu shot last year, but don't remember about the Shingles shot.

Jeanne, I'm glad you got the patio roof fixed.  I'm sorry about your incontinence problem but I do think drinking lots of water is helpful, although a nuisance when you're away from a bathroom.  At least the water keeps the bacteria moving out of your body.

Jane, Woo Hoo on being the big  winner at bridge!  I'm always happy to win anywhere between 25 cents and $1:00 because I always put the quarters back into my quarter jar so I can be ready for the next game.  I've lost lots of quarters between these 2 bridge clubs!

Mary, I'm always happy when the cleaning ladies come, too!  I can fairly well keep things tidy between visits.  My gals come every two weeks.  They change my sheets, dust everything (but don't move anything) and damp mop all my floors.  I have tile in both bathrooms and hardwood every other room.  I find it worth the fee I must pay the cleaning company.

Sharon, I'm sorry you have another UTI.  What a pain that must be.  Have you had any more rain from the Hurricane?  Those poor people near the coast have really taken a beating!  Have you heard anything about the South Carolina coast?  I worry about friends in Charleston and Columbia.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

Marilyn

Please pray for Keith. His prostate is very swollen, He was catheterized yesterday, Today  he just keeps leaking. the dementia isn't helping, last night he thought he saw people in th back yard. It may have been a deer, but he sure thinks it was two people walking low to the ground, He was up looking in all the rooms, opening and closing doors. He sees the Urologist next Thursday afternoon.  Dr. Craig (his son) said it will never get better only get worse. They won't operate on a person with dementia because being in the hospital will just confuse them more..
All this  on top of losing one of my sons two weeks ago .t is a bit overwhelming

jane

Sue....hope you had a good afternoon.

Sharon....I hate waiting for people to shoe up to do work.

Marilyn....at least Craig knows what you’re dealing with re: K and his dementia.

Back from CR and it’s heating up again.

Jane

SharonE

Marilyn, I'm so sorry that Keith now has the prostate problem on top of the dementia. Maybe they can prescribe Flomax for the leakage. It seems to help John.  I think you have your hands and heart full.  Big Hugs.

Sue glad you are playing bridge and have a clean house.  I do too. My gal was here this AM as was the HOA guy about the sillcock as was the landscaper.  The Hoa guy had an irrigation man come fix the sillcock. The landscaper will begin on our backyard Oct. 15.  He will prune, replace 2 bushes, dig out the flower garden for the bird bath and bird feeder, edge the garden and the bush area with a stone edging, and add topsoil and mulch to everything.  It will probably cost a bunch, although he is very reasonable, but it will be worth it.

After they all left, I ate and then went to the grocery. I saved about $75 today counting the VIP discounts, senior discount, and coupons.  I am absolutely wiped out now.

Tomorrow is our brunch and that's all I have scheduled.  John is leaving for his cruise in two weeks. It will be nice to have peace and quiet and no honey-do's for a week.  He can think of more things for me to do that he should do himself!

Take care everyone and have a nice evening.  Sharon

Sherry Keith has been taking Flow max for a couple of years, and yesterday the Dr. increased it yto two pills instead of one. He also prescribed something to shrink the prostate, called Finasteride.

SCFSue

Bridge was good although I had so-so cards.  Our favorite sub joined us today and brought each of us a small jar of preserved figs she'd put up.  I'll enjoy them with toast for breakfast.  Olyne had baked a yummy cake and served it with a little ice cream, so I'm not going to eat much for supper.

Jane, it's hotter here today, too.  I'm expecting the 5:00 weather man to tell us the temperature was in the mid-high 90's today.  It's OK if I don't have to work outside, but do try to get a bit of yard work done most mornings before it gets too hot.

Marilyn, I'm so sorry about Keith's health problems.  I know it's tough for you especially when he doesn't remember things very well and often is confused.  I'm still praying for your grief and also for this new problem with Keith.  Big Hugs and prayers from here.

Sharon, where is John going cruising?  Is he playing in a tournament aboard ship?  I think you'll probably enjoy two weeks with less cooking and other chores.  Have you had any problems with wind and/or rain from the hurricane in N.C.?  Keep us posted.

Have a nice evening, Every Buddy.
Sue

SharonE

Sue, our area was very lucky with no flooding or damage, although we do have a roof leak.  The coast is a mess and the rivers are cresting now to add to the flooding.  They need a lot of help and prayers.

Marilyn, I hope the new med and increased dose help Keith. I hope you are in grief counseling for the loss of your son. They say it helps a lot, at least as much as anything can.

Our temp gauge said 94 when I got home from the grocery.

Mary, when do you leave and how long will you be gone?  I hope you have a lovely time with your family.
Sharon

Marilyn

I haven't started grief counseling yet, but I am going to Alz caregivers support group

maryz

Marilyn, glad you're going to the Alz support group.  They can be very helpful.

Sharon, Margaret is picking me up tomorrow morning.  We're going to spend tomorrow night in Asheville, then go on to Camden, NC, on Saturday for a week.  To reiterate Sue's question, where is John going on the cruise - and is it a bridge cruise?  I hope you both have fun.  ;)

Sue, our high today was 95*.  They're saying it's supposed to cool off some by the end of next week.  I just hope we get some rain while I'm gone.

I'll be "connected" while we're gone, so will be checking in.
