Mary..enjoy your holiday.

Storms overnight and low 60s this morning.  Delightful.

Have a Good Friday.

Jane

SharonE

Hot & humid as always here. Maybe next week we'll get a break.

John's cruise is a bridge cruise (regional tournament) to Puerto Rico and Haiti. He probably won't even get off the ship.

Mary, I hope you have a great time and that it cools down.

Marilyn, I'm sure the Alz group is very helpful to you, but the grief couseling would be too.

Jane, enjoy the weather break.

I went to brunch this AM and then to Lowes and picked up 4 mum plants for my front pots and also a rain guage!  John took out the half-dead summer flowers and about a third of the dirt, so I could just set the potted mums down in the 2 smaller pots. Later, I will take them out and put in pansies.  The big pot has a small spruce in the center, so I put in a mum on either side of it in the pot and then added potting soil.  They look so nice!

Now, I've had it for the day.  Hi to all.  Sharon

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I'm still sitting here in my P.J.'s so will have to shower and dress after finishing the S&F forums I read.  I did just reply to an e-mail from Kelly and his partner Ellie.  We've been corresponding for quite a few years and I usually reply to them from my Bellsouth account, but have been unable to get into it recently as I can't find the lengthy password that Tim made for me--it probably fell on the floor while the Molly Maids were dusting last week and was thrown away.

This is a big football Saturday and I will be watching football games most of the afternoon.  AU doesn't play until 6:00 but I'll watch the South Carolina game and maybe a few others before it starts.

Sharon, how long will John be away?  I think he is probably enjoying the bridge--does he know others who will be playing?  It sounds like your new mums are really pretty and are welcoming fall.  We're still in the middle of a VERY hot summer with afternoon temps in the mid-high 90's.  I try to get any outside thing finished before noon.

Jane, I envy you your cool temperature, but am not looking forward to anything lower than 70.  I begin to freeze below that temp!

Mary, I know you'll enjoy your trip and I hope the weather will be lovely.  It looks like the rain/flooding will not be close to you.  Will you be meeting up with your other daughters?  Enjoy!

Marilyn, I'm glad you're going to the Alzhiemers (sp?) support group and hope it will give you tips on dealing with Keith's problems.  Thoughts and prayers for you both.

Have a nice day, Buddies, and may your football teams win unless they are playing South Carolina and Auburn!

Sue

A lovely cool morning here and sunny as we await arrival of niece Cathy and her son, Kent.  He's 23 or so and has found his passion in flying.  He's working and saving every dime to pay for flying lessons.  He and his sister live with Cathy, a widow, and Michelle is going to the local community college after deciding she didn't want to have to borrow big $$ to go to the U of Illinois-Chicago when she could commute from home and get the basics out of the way more reasonably.  Since she's changed what she wants to study from IT to English, it was a wise choice.

I'm glad they're just coming for an overnight.  Neither Ray nor I are up for an extended visit at this time.

Rivers still running bank full here, so glad the rains are off the radar for a bit, anyway.

jane

jane

Perfect fall day here...sunny, temps in low 70s...no humidity, and gentle breeze.  We alll slept a bit later this morning, and then Ray and I got our guests fed and they've left now for the trip back to Geneva, IL.  They'll have a lovely day for the drive, though the traffic may be heavy as people get out and about on such a beautiful day.

I have their beds stripped and the sheets in the laundry.

It's going to be a quiet afternoon here...

jane

maryz

jane, glad you had a good (and brief) visit with family.  That's always good.

Our trip east was uneventful, if long.  The Chihuly pieces at the Biltmore were spectacular, as expected.  We were all exhausted afterwards, though.  From there to the place in Camden, NC, took all day Saturday, but again was uneventful.  This is a lovely house on a lovely site, across the Pasquotank River from Elizabeth City, NC.  Right now, we are eight - my four girls, one husband, one granddaughter, her fiance, and me.  The cast of characters will change throughout the week, but this is a huge house, and will easily accommodate everybody.  It's hot and humid, but lovely when the breeze blows.  All is well.

Happy Sunday, Buddies!
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

SharonE

Jane, glad your visit went well.  Is Geneva near Rockford?  I seem to remember a Geneva road when visiting my in-laws up there.  Also glad you have such lovely weaather for a change.  Ours is a little cooler, low 80's and a chance of rain tonight and tomorrow, but we are to be in the 70's tomorrow!!  First time in months.

Mary, I'm sure the exhibit was wonderful but I can understand the exhaustion from it.  I'll have to look up Camden and see where that is.  Sounds like you have a huge place for everyone.  We keep talking about doing that with our family, but it hasn't worked out yet.

We've been to church & SS and I have the 2nd load of laundry in. Leftovers for dinner, so I'm done working.

Have a nice day, everyone.  Sharon

jane

Mary....your getaway sounds Perfect.

Sharon...no, not near Rockford....next to St. Charles, so some 60 Miles south and east of Rockford.

Joints unhappy tonight...and I have a rheumatology appt tomorrow afternoon.

Jane

SharonE

Well not too far away from Belvidere where John grew up.

I'm sorry your joints are hurting. Hope the Dr. can give you some help.  It's supposed to rain here today and is very overcast, but the temp in the low 70's.

I'm subbing in a bridge club this afternoon. Many of the players are the same as in my regular club which will be Wed, so this is bridge week for me. I hope I get decent cards and play them well, but you never know.

I'm getting Bunny groomed Thursday.  She's a woolly sheep!  I also need to schedule a haircut for me.

The Panthers won yesterday!  And also Tiger Woods!  Although I don't approve of his morals, I sympathize with his back problems and am pleased he is back to playing well again.

Hi to all. Sharon

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I've been trying to catch up with some mail I've been neglecting, but Tim came by while I was doing that, so I'm still behind.  He'll be back again on Friday for library, Kroger trip, and lunch out.  He was off to the Post Office and other errands when he left my house.

Jane, I'm sorry your joints were painful yesterday and hope you get some relief from the visit to the rheumatologist today.  Keep us posted.

Sharon, I don't usually watch pro football, so had to read about the Panthers in this morning's paper.  I got my football fix on Saturday as several of the teams I like played during the day.  I'm playing bridge tomorrow at Azalea Place (a retirement facility) and I've had a dickens of a time getting subs.  But finally got what I needed.  I'm taking Olyne as my guest for lunch and hope the chef comes up with a good meal.  He's an OK cook, but the new management has trimmed the menu down (I think to save $) and it not great anymore.  I hope they have fish tomorrow as most of their meats I don't much care for.

Mary, it sounds as if your trip is going well.  I may have mentioned earlier that the AU art museum has a Chihuly chandelier in the lobby that is gorgeous.  Bill took me to see a Chihuly exhibit in St. Louis when I was out there some time ago and it was lovely, too.  Enjoy your family and the rest of the trip!

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

SharonE

I got my church articles written and sent this morning and played bridge this afternoon. Middle of the pack. I started out really well but when we changed tables, it went downhill.

It's almost cool here today. It never did rain, but my knees are hurting.

Nothing much going on besides that.  Hope everyone is doing well.  Sharon

Marilyn

I am feeling better, Keith isn't. Freckles had an episode in the night with diarrhea and barfed a little, More diarrhea this morning, She is OK now hasn't  pooed anymore. She had some chicken and rice to eat so she'll be OK. Keith isn't eating, just a tiny bit here and there. This morning he decided he wanted to go for a walk, to the corner and back Freckles and i went with him and  almost home he started stumbling and fell at the end of our driveway. I couldn't get him  up, he couldn't get up. Some one driving by stopped to help  him to the door. He refuses to go  for the second Catheterization and using depends as an excuse no to,. I have to change his depends,  when they need to come off. Darn he  acts like he doesn't know how to change his underwear and i know he does.
Craig wants me to talk with the dR about hospice, but I don't think he is ready for hospice yet. He sees the urp;lpogist on Thursday.

SCFSue

I'm just looking in before getting ready for bed.  I need to get up early tomorrow as my cleaning ladies will be here about 9:00 and I want to be dressed for bridge before that.

Sharon, hurray for getting your church articles written so early.  I think being "middle of the pack" is way better than being last!  I'm sure you enjoyed your friends.

Marilyn, I'm glad you're feeling better and wish Keith were, also.  It's tough to have him not eating well, having to wear Depends, being so forgetful, etc.  I know it must be hard and also painful for you to deal with.  Hopefully the urologist will be able to give you some tips for dealing with his incontinence on Thursday.  Keep your chin up.  Prayers for both of you from here in Alabama.

Sleep well, Buddies.
Sue

jane

Marilyn...good to have the urologist visit soon.  I know you’ll tell the doc of K’s multiple problems.

Sharon...any bridge day is a good day.  Is John gone now on his cruise?

Sue...I’m so glad we don’t do the call subs thing.  We play with whoever shows up, and eat from menu at golf club.  No stress and no having to set up at home or get dessert in, etc.

Not much help at rheumatology...she’s still pushing for Med for osteoporosis since she says I’ll be on prednisone for months.  She did start a very slow decrease schedule.  I hate the side effects of prednisone, but only treatment for pmr.  She did suggest 2,000 mg of fish oil 2x a day and another supplement.  I couldn’t find the brand she said studies recommended...Dona...for glucosamine sulfate so it may be on line.

Sharon....are you having reactions to the reclast?

I think I’ll go back to pool with Ray today.

Jane

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I'm dressed and ready to go to bridge at Azalea place, but my cleaning ladies are late this morning.  I'm sure they'll get here when they can and if I need to leave before they are finished, they'll lock up and hide the key outside so I'm OK with that.

I had a mess trying to find subs for today's bridge at Azalea Place.  I finally asked Olyne to come to lunch with me (my treat) as she is so good to take me to SS and church every Sunday.  She was happy to do that, so I'm good with that.  Plus one of the members who lives at Azalea Place found a friend there who will sub, so I'm OK this time.  I just hope the meal will be OK.  The food is not as good as it was under the previous management.  I usually order the fish as it seems to be better than the other entree's.

Jane, are you doing water walking at the pool with Ray?  Olyne and Terri go to the AU pool twice a week for water walking and other exercises and have done it for years.  They enjoy it and find it's an easy way to exercise.

Sharon, I hope your knees are better today.  Has John left for the bridge cruise?

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

SharonE

Marilyn, I'm glad you're feeling better, but sad that K is having so many problems. I hope the urologist is able to help him more.

Jane & Sue, John leaves on his cruise on Sat. His plane is at 7:20 AM, so I was dreading getting him to the airport that early, as it takes about 45 mins + TSA time.  However, he found out last week that one of his good friends is also going on the same plane and cruise, so they are taking a shuttle and splitting the cost. All I have to do is get up about 4 AM, pull on some clothes and drive him 5 mins to her house.  Such a relief as I hate to drive at night and I would be driving back home in the dark.  I will pick him up at the airport the following Sat about 4:30 PM which will be fine.

Jane, I have had no side affects from Reclast at all as far as I can tell. I only have to get it once a year for 2 years, then they will do a Dexa and see if it is building the bone or not.  I can only take it 2 yrs at a time to avoid side affects.

Sue, in our club, each person is responsible for getting their own subs. It is much easier.  We also meet at the golf club house and have lunch there. Their cooks seem to change out frequently, so I know what you mean about not knowing if it will be good.  We each pay for our own lunch.  However, the club I subbed in yesterday meets in people's houses. The game this time was at a gal's who had recently bought the same model home as ours and had completely renovated it!  I couldn't believe how beautiful it was.   She did a stellar job.  So fun to see what could be done. A couple things wouldn't work for us, but were still great.

I talked to Lori last evening. She had spent the weekend in WI attending a college classmate's wedding. She took her relatively new boyfriend with her and apparently, it all went well.  We'll see.  He has 2 daughters 14 & 17, I think, so marriage will be on hold for a while till they are out of the house. She likes them, but she went through that with her ex and they were unbearable, so she's not looking to repeat that experience.  A long term relationship is best anyway.

I have the day off today, so going to enjoy it.  Hope everyone else is too.  Sharon

Darlene...glad the visit with daughter went well.

Big storm came through soon after we got home from the pool.  All clear now until Thurs.

It’s going to get much cooler....maybe not hit 60s by the end of the weekend.

It's Wednesday...and bridge day for me.   8)

No rain for today, I hope, but fall and cooler temps are definitely here.

Have a great Wednesday!

SCFSue

Good morning, Every Buddy.  All is well here.  I need to shower and dress for my Wednesday bridge club which will be out at Ruth's house.  Terri will pick me up and then we'll pick up our 97 y.o. bridge player and go to Ruth's.  I can't imagine that I'll still be playing bridge if I get to 97, but who knows?!  I need to decide what to fix for my lunch, something light, probably as Ruth will serve a dessert with lots of calories.  She subbed yesterday at the Azalea Place bridge club.

Jane, how did your medical appointment go yesterday or are you still to see your doctor today?  Happy bridge day today!  I hope you get good cards and I know you'll enjoy playing.

Darlene, I understand about thinking of and missing your hubby every day.  Not a day goes by that I don't think about Bob.  He died in 2002 and although it's been 16 years now, it seems much longer.

Sharon, I belong to 3 bridge clubs--and when any of us is the hostess, it's her responsibility to get a sub if needed.  When we play at Azalea place and need a sub, I have to check a list of bridge players who live there unless I find someone who plays outside the retirement center who would be willing to pay for her own lunch and play with us.  The players who live there and play with us eat 3 meals a day at the facility.  I'm glad I only play there once a month!

Hi to all the other Buddies looking in.  I hope all are well and will get back here when they can.

Sue

SharonE

Sounds like Wed is bridge day!  I just got back.  I had a couple good hands but a lot of bad ones so was near the bottom. Hope Jane & Sue did better.

I just realized I had John leaving this Sat and he doesn't leave till the following Sat!  So I have another week of cooking to do before I get a break.

Still in the 80's here and HUMID!

Darlene, glad you had a good visit. It's nice that your daughter lives close enough to visit fairly often.  Mine are in Chicago and FL or IN, but we're planning on my flying down to their "new" house in FL in Feb when John goes to NZ. Lori will fly down too, so that will be nice.  Sangmin may hide out in the den or do a lot of bike riding!

Mary, hope you're having fun with the family.

Hi to everyone else.  Sharon

jane

Last week I was high in bridge...today...the last of the 8,,,so I got my .25 back "for my misery."   ;D

It was a lovely day here...high temps in mid 60s and it was 57 when I left for bridge at 11:00.

Sharon...one more  week and then you can have a two week vacation, too.   :smitten:

Sue...doc visit was ok.  She's still pushing me to take something for osteoporosis since I'll be on prednisone long term, she says.  [I told her how I hated the side effects...hot flashes back with a vengeance, face flushing, mood swings, digestive/intestinal problems, sleep problems, etc.  She just nodded her head and suggested I take 2000 mg of fish oil twice a day for the arthritis pain.  She began to slowly decrease the prednisone.  I've been on 20 mg for a month...now two weeks of 17.5; then 2 weeks of 15; 2 weeks of 13.5; and then a month of 10mg and then I'll be back to see her in late Nov. before we head to Tx.  That's IF I don't have a relapse in the inflammation in my body.]

jane

SCFSue

Sharon, I had so so cards and wasn't the low scorer or the high, so no money came my way today.  I don't know who was first, second, or last today as we had a torrential down pour just as we were finishing up and getting ready to go out to get into cars to go home.  Some just ran for it, but as I rode with Terri and we had Helen who has a walker, we had a tough time getting into the car.  At least when we got to Helen's I was able to get her walker out of Terri's trunk and Helen into the house without getting wetter as her sidewalk is completely covered and Terri can pull up into it so she doesn't get wet.

Jane, I take an iron pill daily which I think is supposed to help strengthen bones.  Tim and my GP decided I should take that, a daily vitamin, and Levothyroxine as I had a lot of my thyroid removed when I was 18.  I'm also taking Donepezil for my heart since I had the pace maker installed.  I feel pretty well most days, just sometimes depressed when it's dark and dreary on rainy days.  For a while I also took fish oil, but my GP didn't think it was helping me, so I quit that.

I haven't had my flu shot yet and will try to get one at Kroger on Friday.  I don't know if I need a Shingles booster.  Have any of you had one?

Sleep well, Buddies.
Sue

jane

Sue...yes, I’ve had the new shingles shots.  I had the old one when it first came out.  This new one is a two shot deal.  One and then after 3 months or so, the second one.  Here availability of this “new” one has been limited.  Pharmacist said supplies are improving.

I too took fish oil...for my heart, I guess, but this is now supposed to help with arthritis pain.  We’ll see.

Haircut and highlights day for me.

Jane

SCFSue

Good morning, Jane and other Buddies looking in.  I have cleaned up the kitchen after breakfast and now have the first load of laundry in the washing machine.  I need to do several loads today as I was caught in the rain (a big downpour) as we finished our bridge game at Ruth's house.  Terri was driving and ran into the rain to get the car and I had to help 97 y.o. Helen into the car and put her walker into the trunk.  I was soaked to the skin!  And I'd worn a new and very cute pair of red "Mary Janes" to bridge and they were soaked, too.  I'm hoping they'll recover.  They are dry now and I'll see what I can do to rehab them.

Hello to everyone and I hope you all have a good day.
Sue

SharonE

Jane, I take fish oil for my heart. Didn't know it was supposed to help arthritis. If it does, it simply mitigates it.  I have had no side affects from the Reclast, no hot flashes, nothing.  I did have joint & muscle pain on the other one I took several years ago. I have a blank on the name, but it is advertised on TV all the time. I take Coreg for my heart, Primadone for my tremor, levothyroxine for low thyroid, diclofenac for fibro/arthritis, zyrtec, melatonin, tramadol and a bunch of supplements.

Sue, I'm glad you didn't get drenched yesterday and were able to help the lady on the walker.

I had a tuna sandwich at the club yesterday and for some reason have had lots of gas, bloating & some nausea since. It didn't taste bad. It's better today but not gone.

I just picked Bunny up from the groomer and she looks so pretty, but it also shows that she has gained a lot of weight. John is so bad about giving her treats and overfeeding her, but I think we have come to an agreement on the amount of food she gets. At least I hope so.

I need to get with it and go to the grocery. Later, Sharon

jane

Fosamax, maybe, Sharon?  I’m going to see what she says in Nov.  about what she suggests.

I’ve been watching the hearing all day...what a sad excuse we have for a Congress.  So many academy award performances from them.

Jane

Marilyn

Hi there
I took Keith to his Urologist appointment yesterday, His stomach was very distended from him not being able to pee and he had refused to have the catheter. Well they got 2200 mls of urine from the bladder, installed the catheter and did blood work. we got home I had time to feed the animals and eat a bowl of soup and got a call to get him to ER stat. He was going into kidney failure. He is still in the hospital. I left him there in ER because I had to come home and let the dog out. By that time it was 7 pm and getting dark. I can't see well enough to drive after dark. The urologist as of yesterday afternoon, was going to use a camera to go into the bladder and look for problems as well and look to see what is going on with the prostate. Anyway I had a long day. His oldest son (the dr) called me at 9:45 and told me I am doing everything right and that his boys will be here this weekend, he had to  get some one to take his shift at the hospital. Then Gilbert My son called me at 10:30 and I had to tell everything again. I had tried to keep them all updated as the day progressed. I didn't get to sleep for quite awhile feeling guilty that I didn't stay at the hospital with Keith.  I need to take of Me too and I will keep you updated.

This  is all because of him being so darn stubborn and refusing to let me get him to the doctor.

SCFSue

Good morning, Buddies.  I've had breakfast and cleaned up the kitchen and now am ready for Tim's arrival.  We'll go to the library, Kroger, and out to lunch.  I need to call our C.E. director to find out whether I'll be teaching the young children's SS class.  I wish she'd given me a printed notice of the Sundays I must teach that class.  I think having a different teacher every Sunday is not a good practice!

Sharon, I did get drenched when we left Ruth's house.  Terri got wet going to get her car and pulling up to Ruth's porch and then I was soaked when I put Helen into the car and then folding up her walker and putting it in the trunk of the car.  That rain was a gully washer!  I had to strip when I got home, wash my clothing and hope my cute red shoes would be OK when they dried.  They were--but I hated getting them wet.

Jane, I watched some of the hearing yesterday afternoon.  It was disgusting as far as I'm concerned.  I just don't understand how they could have found so many conflicting witnesses--and I think I understand Judge Kavanaugh's anger.  He may or may not be guilty, but what a mess the whole process is!  I'm a Democrat, but I'm ashamed of the Democrats who have engineered this fiasco.  And the Republicans are not much better!

Marilyn, you have a tough row to hoe now.  I'm sure Keith must be confused about having to stay in the hospital.  You are fortunate that his sons, especially Dr. Keith, are being supportive of you.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.

It's looking like rain again here, but I'm hoping it clears up.  We've had so much rain this summer that all my flowering shrubs are in constant need of pruning or they'll overrun my flower beds.  We usually have almost drought like summers with the rains coming at the end of September and into October.

Have a nice day, Every Buddy.
Sue

SharonE

Marilyn, you have nothing to feel guilty about. I'm glad the boys are coming in this weekend.  As to K's stubbornness, I think that is often part of Alzheimers, along with anger. I hope they are able to get him stabilized this weekend. Prayers going out for all of you.

Sue, I hope you got all your errands run today with Tim and a good load of books.

Jane, Fosamax is related to Reclast and must be taken weekly and you have to stay upright for a half-hour or so afterwards to prevent Gerd. The Reclast can cause gerd innitially, although it didn't for me, but you only have to get the infusion once a year.

I watched some of the hearing yesterday and I agree with you all. It should have been a short private session without media. She had absolutely nothing to back up any of her claims.  I was glad the Republican's had a woman prosecutor experienced in this kind of case to interview her. I thought she did a good job and wasn't intimidating to Kelly, yet she got the info she was after.

Nothing much going on here. Sharon
